[00:00:08] Welcome to the show. My name is Alex. My name is Jerry. And we are talking season two, episode

[00:00:35] three of 1923. The wrap, wrap thee in Terror. And this episode was very revealing, to say the least. And I actually, it kind of was, it kind of was. And I actually, this is probably one of my favorite episodes of the series. And it's not probably for the reasons that you

[00:01:04] may think if you've seen the episode. But before we get into that, I just want to encourage everybody. If you like what we're doing, please send us feedback at feedback at podcastica.com as well as, you know, follow us, subscribe, do all the good stuff that requires that we would appreciate it. So Jerry, how did you like this episode?

[00:01:32] Oh, it was, it had my favorite character for a long time. Absolutely. For a good half the episode. And her story was pretty interesting to tell. You know, it did have some ups and downs, right? Correct. I think the fact that we got some answers to some questions, that's what I kind of like. Every episode, we figure out where everybody's at. It might be for two seconds, but we do figure

[00:02:02] out where everybody's at. And, you know, it showed a process that I just was very interested in. And we're going to get into that a little bit later. But why don't you start us off? Which directions do you want to go with this episode? And you're driving. Okay, so let's start out. Let's start out with just the start of the episode. I was sad to hear

[00:02:29] that there was no Isabel May voiceover this time around. True. There was no Isabel May voiceover. True. So, you know, but just to, you know, like, I usually like to go with, if there's something pertinent at the beginning, we see, you know, like, just as if we see something pertinent in the beginning, and then go on to try and say, go in increasing levels of time

[00:02:53] with the characters. It seems to be, you know, try and try and keep it. And in like in Montana, then in Montana on the ranch, they went to Montana, they went to New York, and they went to, you know, wherever, wherever, and then everywhere in between. But I do say to your point, how they jumped around was pretty nice. And, you know, we did get to we did get to see your girl.

[00:03:23] We got to see more of your girl than I thought we all thought. And, but we didn't get our we didn't get our favorite intro. So that said, do you want to start with New York? Or do you want to start with Montana? Let's start with Montana with catching up with Jacob and his crew. Yeah, you know, they, the storm has passed. And so they get out from under the flipped wagon.

[00:03:50] And I said, well, there's no wood, and we need some warmth. And so we got to burn the wagon. So I got to tell you, you know, people forget how the West was one. I mean, that's some crazy, crazy stuff. When you're when you're looking at life, life and death, and the nearest the nearest

[00:04:14] bath is a day away. And all the creature comforts are like, not very close. You know, you really, I was, I was very grateful to be in my warm house. That's for sure. Yes, exactly. But I do, I do think that the word will is just the best word for this whole show. You it's, it's about will,

[00:04:42] you know, is life fair? No. But are you willing to do what it takes? And sometimes you are and it doesn't work out. But sometimes you're not and it doesn't work out. So them burning the burning the wagon was, that was devastating on so many fronts, because the fact is, they need the wagon. But they also need to, they also need to stay warm. So it was really kind of an interesting

[00:05:13] dilemma. But they did burn the wagon. And they all went on horseback. And away they went. The fact that they even survived the whole thing was, the winter was pretty amazing. Well, I'm thinking, you know, the fact that the horses survived. Where the hell were they? Well, horses have lived on, you know, in very cold environments for 1000s of years, probably. Yeah. Well, them, them, the roaches and everybody else, they're about a lot more resilient than us.

[00:05:43] That's for sure. Yeah, no kidding. No, so we at least need some, you know, some protection. Right, right, right, right. So one thing that surprised me is like, when everybody's piling out, Zane actually stands up, which I think can do, but it's not really good for him to do that.

[00:06:01] Right. No, I thought that that was I, I honestly did not realize that he could stand. Mm hmm. So I was a little surprised on that. You know, he's semi sort of blind. And we're going to talk about what that means for the future of him and the show. But that was just an amazing.

[00:06:30] I loved how they drew it out. And it wasn't like they really drew it out. But they just kept. They did their couple scenes. And then they stay they wrapped it up at the end, which was really a nice, nice bow to that story. Yes. So we'll switch out, you know, and we'll catch up with Jacob and everybody when we absolutely at the end, when we're when we're done with the wrench. I call it wrench time.

[00:06:55] Okay. So yeah, so what we got is when we flip to the ranch after, you know, after the guys go and go off to find the horses and they start to they and they say we're going to burn the wagon. So we go wrench time and we find out that the wolf had been shot. Right. Oh, because it's boy, did he get shot. Yeah. And then he stuck him on the fence. He was like drawn and quartered, so to speak. No kidding. So what we see is we see the aftermath here, which we have Doc and the

[00:07:25] the helper guy helping to get the nurse's body back on the buggy. Right. And and hey, it's time for Elizabeth to have another shot in the belly, you know, in her defense, because, you know, you could say she's a little melodramatic and to a point that she is. But God damn that that needle

[00:07:49] did not look fun. No, and it didn't look small. It did. There was nothing about that needle that was welcoming. Yeah. Yeah. So what you said and she really wasn't wanting another shot. And I wrote this down and said, Kara, deliver some percussive persuasion. There you go. But, you know,

[00:08:12] I will say this. Kara is a tough broad. She's she's come across the the ocean. She's she's made this life that she has accepted, whether she likes it or not. Who knows? But she's not only the matriarch of this family, but she's the heart and the soul of this family. And nobody pushes her in the corner,

[00:08:42] so to speak. Exactly. And she's been doing this long enough that nothing really phases her. I don't think. I mean, yes, she has her worries, which we're going to talk about later. But she's in the winter. I think they're all just in reaction mode. And, you know, Elizabeth is in a very

[00:09:07] precarious situation because she's not used to being denied the creature comforts. Well, OK, take that aside. This isn't creature comforts. This is life or death. I mean, the fact that you're like begging for warm weather, you know, right now, as we're as we're recording this, it's a it's a balmy 50 degrees and we're like spring is coming. They just changed the clocks and all this other

[00:09:34] stuff. So it was like light at six o'clock. But and it gives you hope. And right now, everybody have seen, especially if you're not in a warm weather state like you are, Jerry, you know, there's those couple of weeks where you're like, is this ever going to end? Yeah. And then, you know what? The earth provides. And, you know, they always say,

[00:09:58] what is it? It gets worse before it gets better. And this is the worst. And I think Kara has the best line. And this pretty much sums up Elizabeth's time here. And you probably wrote it down. It's a good thing you have bad luck because that's all you I forget. Exactly. If it weren't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all. Yeah. I knew I was gonna screw that up. But but yeah,

[00:10:22] no, it's it's it's definitely a problem. And she's in a bad place. And she wants her mom. And I don't blame her because I'd want my mom to if I was in this situation. Yeah. And and she told and Kara tells Elizabeth this like, see, this isn't madness. This is fear. And you must overcome it because, you know, you either take these shots or you're gonna die because I don't want to have to shoot you like I did the wolf in the living room. Oh, I know she she's very

[00:10:52] I don't know what the right word is. Blunt. Yes. Blunt would be blunt would be a good word for it. No, she's not blunt. She's realistic. I mean, really, really, that's what she is. She's realistic because do does anybody feel that Kara is trying to be mean? I mean, no, I don't think I think it's all out of love and it's out of survival. And I mean, it takes a lot of guts

[00:11:23] to do what she did. It takes even more guts for the previous show to do what they did to get out there. The one thing that I and I don't know if this is the right time to talk about it, but and I will probably talk about this point a lot. After seeing what happened to Yellowstone and yes, we are going to talk about the original series. I'm sorry. Spoiler alert. You can stop

[00:11:52] or fast forward. It's a shame how it ends. It's bullshit. I'm sorry. It's just crazy. It's wrong. You know, these people and I know that's what happens, but it's just our survivors should survive. Good shit. I mean, not that not that the Dutton family are good. They're not bad, but they're

[00:12:19] certainly not always good, but they should have survived. And I know if the people that are listening to this podcast may say yes, but they had a monopoly. They had too much, you know, power corrupts. Absolutely. All this other kind of stuff. But I think that our heroes should have ended better. I don't know if I don't know if, um, uh, what's his name? Uh, since he left the show,

[00:12:48] um, you talking, uh, Costner. Yeah. If Kevin Costner stayed, it would have had a different ending. Um, but, or it would have still been going on, but you know, Kevin Costner maybe forced the hand of everything. I don't know, but it's just a shame. Um, what's your thoughts on that? On that take? Yeah. I wish he wouldn't have left, but you know, it's like we have to deal with it is, you know,

[00:13:13] what it is and, and go on. No, I, yeah. I mean, you know, the way I look at it is the Roman, even the Roman empire fell, everything falls. Um, you know, I like the way I like what happened in terms of the full circle-ness of it, but yeah, it anyway. So that said, I don't want to

[00:13:39] belabor the point. I mean, I've, I've, I've already ranted about it for, you know, five minutes longer than I probably should have. And folks, I'm going to probably do this every single week. I'm sorry. You can tell you can write all the negative parts of it. It's just that, you know, coming from a family business. I know you had a family business for at one time and you know, I don't know if it was your father or your grandfather that started it, but you know, it's so much part of your life. And,

[00:14:09] and I know being a son of someone just like you are, it doesn't mean we have to like it, but that's where you don't, you don't get to, you don't get to pick the hand you're born into. Yes. And, and there's a lot of good that came out of it. And I think maybe I'm just talking about something completely different from my own experience, but I, it's just, you just want empires to stay empire sometimes. Yeah. Everything has a lifespan. Everything does have a lifespan and

[00:14:38] we have to move on. So where do you, where would you like to move on from? Okay. So we're still on the ranch. All right. We're ranching it, ranching it around. So, so we go to the doctor's trying to leave and Kara's still sitting outside on the porch. It's like, where are these guys? Because they should have been here already. And a doctor said, well, I got to get, I got to get the nurse

[00:15:01] back, you know, so do the remains, her remains back. And so, and at this point we catch up, Jacob catches up with us and said, yeah, it looks like the doctor ain't going back to town just yet. Cause you know, he's, they're going to want to have to, they're going to want to have to have him look at Zane. Cause Zane had a little bit of a problem. Zane has, well, he had a bit of a problem. So, um, during, I love, I love the actor that plays Zane. He's in a

[00:15:30] couple of, he's in a couple of films that I just love. Um, he, he was in the Coast Card movie with Kevin Costner. Um, Oh, I don't remember that one. I know which one you're talking about. I can't, the name escapes me. The Guardian. Is it the Guardian? Um, hold on. Yes, folks. I'm not editing this out because, um, uh, I mean, he's been, he's been in a ton

[00:15:59] of movies, been in Jarheads. He's been in a bunch of different things, but he was in, uh, um, what the heck is it? The, yeah, it's the Guardian. And he played the guy that was, uh, going there for the third time and he couldn't, he always got stuck, you know, whatever. And he ends up punching one of the, the guy, uh, the instructors in the nose and everything else.

[00:16:24] And he plays, he always plays this, this, this really, um, shy, but, um, you know, he's got a lot, he's got a lot of toughness inside that he doesn't know about. And, and he's, and he's like this in this move in this show. So he's, he's semi blind and semi headache and all sorts of things. And the doctor check and the doctor checks them out. Yeah. And he says he has a subdural hematoma.

[00:16:52] Yes. Yes. And he can't treat him properly there because he doesn't have the anesthesia for it, but he does have the drill to relieve the pressure. Well, yeah, I have the drill, but I just don't have the pain medication. No. Cause he's got to be put completely under. Well, yeah. Yeah. So, um, so, and it's up to Jacob say, you know, Jacob goes in and says, well, I have some good news and I have some bad news. And it's like, he tells him, tells me he has a hole

[00:17:21] in his head or he's, he's the drill a hole in his head. And it's like, and that's the good news. Yeah, no, exactly. That's the good news. I, and I hope we don't see this procedure because I, I've been under, you know, under anesthesia, maybe let's see, one, two, three, four times in my life. You know, once a decade is pretty, pretty much enough for me, but. Well, I just know, I know a little bit about the procedure. I've, I've actually seen it not in

[00:17:47] person, but on, um, I've had to do some continue ed classes and they just happen to have, you know, some, it's pretty fascinating. I know it's not going to be as clean as it's going to be on the ranch. And especially when you have somebody that's getting drilled in the frigging head, um,

[00:18:11] with no, with no pain medication. Um, but what I was finding really fascinating. And again, you know, I know just enough to get myself in trouble. I find it fascinating that they even knew what it was at that point. I mean, that's some pretty heavy stuff. And the fact that they're going to do the surgery, they're going to do it at the ranch. It's, it's going to be a,

[00:18:36] it's going to be a mess. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds awful, but you know what? I hope that he can, uh, stay alive and live another day and probably get shot by somebody and, you know, have a, have a honorable death. But, uh, yeah, that was, that, that was a funny yet serious moment. And I think

[00:19:02] the only reason why it's funny is because Harrison Ford's in it and, you know, he just knows how to put comedic twist on everything in a, in a, in a, in an emotional, uh, scene. So, I mean, he's just the best. Yeah. Okay. So, um, after this point we catch up with, um, Elizabeth after her, you know,

[00:19:26] after her shot, you know, after she's recovered for a bit, she's packing for home and, and her husband, you know, our, our, it was a Jack Dutton, I think. Yeah. That's, uh, that's, that's Kevin Costner's great grandfather or grandfather or grandfather. Yeah. Or at least is that, is that the way the family tree works? I'm, I am 99% sure. I will take a look, but continue what you were saying. So, um, and she says, I'm going home and going home to Boston.

[00:19:55] It's like, why don't you come, you know, you need to come with me. It's like, there's nothing for me in Boston. My home's here. And he's like, and she says nowhere in our vows said I had to live in this frozen hell and fight for my life at every turn, which I can see her point. And had she been packing a pistol when she went to go collect bags, she wouldn't be,

[00:20:17] you know, she wouldn't be in this mess. Right. Absolutely. So just so we're all on the same page. It goes, um, John Dutton, the first and Emma have two kids, two boys, one's Jack

[00:20:43] and one's John the second. John the second has an unnamed wife. And then from that, they have two sons, John Dutton, the third and Peter Dutton from that. And John Dutton, the third is Yellowstone proper. And then from that he gets married and has, you know, Lee, Beth, Casey

[00:21:12] and, um, yeah, so that's where we're at. And, um, it's pretty, it's pretty kind of messed up, but yeah, Jack evidently it looks like Jack isn't going to be procreating anytime soon unless they change stuff, which they could very well do. Yeah. And at this point, Kara comes

[00:21:39] in and say, Hey, it's time for another shot. Oh, I know. And, and she's like, no, you, my husband stays. Yeah. You're going to see this. Well, I think, you know, for Elizabeth and when she said what she said about him going to, um, Boston, I mean, there's no good way to do

[00:22:03] this. Like Elizabeth, it's, it's a lot easier for Elizabeth to go to Montana than it is Jack to go to Boston. I mean, he's not educated. He's not a northerner. He knows nothing about that world. Not to say that she doesn't any, it's easier to learn how to farm than it is to, you know, be a, be a business person or businessman or, you know, whatever, or whatever

[00:22:30] it is they're doing over there, whatever it is they're doing. And, um, you know, he's going to be the black sheep of the family in no time. It'll be like, he's some guy, dumb guy from Montana and they're going to have her married off to some other guy in no time. Yeah. And so, um, so after they, he watches the shot getting delivered, she says eight more and I'm done with this place. And it's like, where was this in our vows?

[00:22:55] Well, you know what? I, I do, I do, uh, kind of agree with her there, but you know, it's where you start doesn't necessarily mean where you're going to end. And yeah, a lot of people are in situations that like, how did I get here? Well, you know, you make choices. And I think that that's kind of an interesting thing, but that said, um, um, see that, that completes the wrench time. Yes. You know, we had our fireside chat and our

[00:23:25] needle up the side. So, um, we hooked our, our wolf on the, on the whatever and mantle and we're ready to go. Yeah. So let's catch up with Tiona and the crew. Okay. And actually it isn't Tiona this time. It's just her dad goes to, yeah, it's only her dad. Cause Tiona and, uh, Peter are not in this. Yeah. They're, they're, they're snuggling together. So they're snuggling off at the campsite.

[00:23:51] So, so the, um, and he goes up to catch it and we see him leave, uh, in the last episode to go talk to the, the Cowboys, the, the, was it the ranch hands or yep. Yep. Yep. Cause they wanted to catch, they wanted to catch strays and they said that they, if they wanted to help out, that's fine. Mm-hmm. Did you notice who that the guy that he talked to was? I didn't.

[00:24:15] Really? I didn't, I maybe it wasn't paying a bit of attention. I, if I'm not mistaken, and again, I very well could be, but I thought it was C Thomas Howell. If I'm not mistaken, I would, I would bet I'm looking it up right now. Um, let's just see. Yep. He was in 1923.

[00:24:43] Oh, wow. That was him then. Okay. Yeah. So when you look, I mean, he, he did the walking dead. Remember he's done, he's done a lot of bit parts and he's such a great actor. I mean, this wasn't a great role, but it was still kind of neat. Um, but it was nice to see him. Cause you know. Okay. Yeah. I'm looking at it right now. It's like, yeah, it does look like C Thomas Howell, but just a much grayer version of him.

[00:25:10] Well, and you know, anytime you can say stay golden, I mean, you have to stay golden. So, yeah. So he, he talks to him and he's talking about how this is what they're going to do. They're in rattlesnake country and they come up with a plan of bringing the cattle to them. And then they're going to help them further. And what was really neat was he's like,

[00:25:37] do you want something to eat? You know what I mean? It was like, all of a sudden you're one of us. And, um, but he, he declines and just, and decides that he needs to, you know, make sure that the kids aren't having too much fun. Um, or whatever they're doing. Um, I, I do find it fascinating how this particular scene relates to something else that's going to happen in just that we're going

[00:26:06] to talk about in just a minute. Okay. Uh, so that's pretty much that scene. Cause that's a quick, you know, that's a quick one shot. Yeah. That's five minutes scene. Yeah. So then we have an even quicker one shot where we have, we go to the Kansas town where Marshall Padgett's office is and you see a lady right into town and enter the Marshall's office. And I'm like, well, who's that? Well, no, what's interesting about that particular scene, they show the wanted poster, the wanted

[00:26:35] poster. And I, I really thought, and I could be completely off base when I thought in thinking this is that she's going to turn them in somehow, but that's just where my head went. And, and when she went in there, it was the exact opposite, you know, um, you know, why don't you go, why don't you complete the scene? Cause you started, I'm just interjecting my. Yeah. Cause we just, yeah. Cause we just see her into the, into the Marshall's office after, you know,

[00:27:04] after writing into town and we do see that the wanted poster, but, um, and she does appear to be an American Indian, you know, and she may want, you know, may want some, she's pissed. She's pissed. And the reason she's pissed is her people died. Mm-hmm. And I love how the Marshall has the translator, you know, the, the, the Indian translator,

[00:27:28] and she's really trying to be one, you know, as much of a partner with the Indians as she can, because she knows to keep peace, keeping peace doesn't mean keeping peace one way. It means keeping peace with everybody. And what I find fascinating about this. And, and again,

[00:27:52] you know, those two knuckleheads are, are trying to, uh, get this Indian woman, this crow woman for killing five people, but they killed five people and it's okay. Yeah. And, and I know that's just the way life works sometimes in terms of fairness and non-fairness and all this other good stuff.

[00:28:15] But it, I really, I really hope. And I'm praying that she can bring those guys to justice before they bring Tiona to justice. Yeah. Now they may not even bring her to justice. I mean, they may just end up killing her. Well, that's what I mean when I say justice revenge. Now the question is, is she part of the Yellowstone world? Not Yellowstone world. Obviously she is,

[00:28:45] but is she part of the modern Yellowstone because she's like the grandmother or whatever of, Oh, cause she's a rainwater. Right. Because she could literally be, um, you know, the grandfather of the, the, the mayor. Um, and again, I'm sorry about the, uh,

[00:29:08] lack of knowing everybody right now. I am just not, I'm just not having it today, but, um, but yeah, it would be really, it would be really interesting to see if, if she is, you know, part of that family tree. And if she is, I mean, obviously he's gonna, she obviously survives, but, um, more

[00:29:37] importantly though, you know, she's a pretty important character then. Um, I mean, it's chief Thomas rain, rain, rainwater and, um, you know, I wonder if it's, that's the grandfather. That's her grandmother and grandfather or whatever, not even maybe it might even be a great at that point. Yeah. Um, you know, but we'll, we'll, we'll definitely see, I'm going to try to figure this out a little bit

[00:30:07] more, but, um, but yeah, now, um, please. Okay. So we got, uh, Marshall Padgett, uh, played by Jennifer Carpenter. Good to see her again, even if it is just for three minutes. So yeah, right. So she finds the aftermath of the camp that, you know, I, I, Marshall Kent and Renault had, uh, visited before, you know, they got attacked, but I call, I call them Marshall asshole and priest dipshit. Yeah.

[00:30:35] But, um, you know, like looking at what was, what, what happened and the other writers come in and say, um, and this is, I think this might be part of the crew that attacked them or some family members of the crew. He said, um, the writers had told her to, you know, if she wants justice, that she better find them first because they're not going to give them justice. Right. Exactly.

[00:31:04] Okay. So that's that part, you know, that's, that's a pretty quick part. Yeah, no, I mean, it was weird though. I mean, it's so messed up and she knows it's so messed up. Like she knows that the people that are in the wrong are not the P is not her who just killed five people. It's these guys for literally murdering. I mean, at least she had some justification for

[00:31:30] killing them. These guys, I mean that, that Marshall is just, uh, he's too much. Yeah. And I've seen that, I've seen that actor in a couple of other roles and you know, the one I saw him in was in a, uh, uh, Star Trek Picard. Okay. And he played, you know, it's like his character was a really nice guy. Who did he play in Picard? He was a, one of the Romulan, um, people living at Picard's Chateau. Oh really? Oh, I didn't realize that. Yeah. See, you get,

[00:31:59] I get see time of Sal, you get him. That's great. Yeah. That's why we do this folks. Cause we are the official unofficial podcast for, for Yellowstone universe. And, um, you know, that's why people listen to us because we're just seeing it as we see it. And hopefully you guys enjoy it as much as we love doing this. So that said, where do you want to go next on the ranch? So to speak, um, well, well, we just got a quick, uh, another quick one minute thing with Marshall

[00:32:27] Kent, uh, Marshall asshole and priest dipshit. Oh, I know. So it's just, you know, they stopped to do a map check and they talk about, uh, going to a certain town. And it's like, oh, that's Texas. And I was like, oh, well, let's go to Amarillo and put that poster up. Oh, I know. And, and I think, no, they, they want to go to Mexico because they think they're going to go to Mexico. And this is the problem with the rainwaters is, you know, he said, Cowboys will hire anybody. So they're coming,

[00:32:57] you know, we thought that I thought that they were safe, but they're in just as much danger as they were before. Now the question is, we'll see Thomas Howell's boys take up for them. Will the other Marshall go after them? Um, who knows, but yeah, that's why we got to watch it. And that's why we're in the third episode and next week is kind of the midway point. So, um, which is fast,

[00:33:26] you know, I, I love that it's only eight episodes, but I kind of hate it all at the same time because it's a quick, it's a quick deal, but at the same time, it's like, you can never get enough of this because they're going to probably wait two years to do another one. Yeah. Which is, I can say that really irks me two years. Well, I mean, you know, and the thing is, well, Harrison isn't getting any younger and neither is, uh, you know, yeah, I mean, they're not getting any younger, so let's get

[00:33:55] these things out. Yeah. And, um, cause I, and I think, well, the writer's strike that happened, uh, yeah, I mean, it's affected everything. Yeah. That didn't help. Yeah. Nothing's helped. I mean, it was, it was a nightmare for everybody, but now they, hopefully they're going to be back on, uh, back on track. Okay. So let's go, um, into Texas, uh, with Jack, you know, not Jack, but Spencer and

[00:34:21] Luca heading North in their truck because we have, um, Spencer and Luca, they spot a roadblock and they, you know, Spencer's smart enough to, no, no, no, no. Spencer saw, saw the roadblock. Spencer saw the roadblock. Excuse me. Yes, you're correct. And it's like, okay, well, we're going to find another road. And, and of course his buddy is like, we have the money, we have the money. We also have a gun,

[00:34:48] you know? And, uh, he's like, I don't think they're going to want the money. Yeah. They're going to want the money and the stuff that's in there. Yeah. And, uh, so, uh, after they, they hide in a, um, or it's like they hide in a barn, you know, hiding a barn for a bit and says, I'm not dying for some booze. It's like, look up, look, pulls the pistol, said, we're going to go.

[00:35:13] He disarms them immediately. And I love that. It's like, he basically whipped pistol, whips him right now with his own pistol. I know it's just like, it was a quick, like, just grab it. And then just, you know, hit him with it. It was like swatting a fly. Yeah. And so, you know, so he takes that, you know, takes the pistol, takes his stuff and starts walking. Well, and he said, and I,

[00:35:37] I find it funny that he's like, yeah, your cousin basically did this so you can die. Cause if he, if he cared about you, he would have never sent you on this trip. Exactly. He wanted to kill you and he wanted to kill me. So he doesn't have to deal with us. Mm-hmm. So basically that money is, you know, good riddance. Yeah. So, uh, so we see, uh,

[00:36:05] Spencer walking away and, and Luca comes up, uh, you know, driving up on him says, I need my pistol back. Cause I can't, I can't, I can't defend myself without it. And he's looking at him. It's like, you can't defend yourself with it, with it. I know. It's so sad. It's so sad. Yeah. So I'm thinking, well, this, I don't know if it's going to cause an issue with the, the Mateos. Why?

[00:36:31] Because they wanted him to die and he's still alive. How would they know? Well, yeah, I don't know yet, but say this is, I know. I mean, you know, but the thing is like, I know there was a disrespect and Spencer was an idiot. I know that was just a dumb move on his part. Just to like, just accept the hospitality and then like one day, isn't going to make a difference.

[00:36:56] Now he, he, maybe Spencer felt like one day is going to turn into a week is going to turn into a whatever. Um, but you know, who knows? Uh, I, I just think that he played that all wrong, but if he doesn't hear, it's not like there's going to be a, it's not going to be on the news and you know, it's not like the bad guys are going to say, Hey, here's the

[00:37:22] boo. You know, we have your booze. Um, now that being said, it is at Yellowstone, so it may get back to them, but who knows? I mean, I, I don't know. I, I hope, I hope it that we, the only thing I hope it, when it comes to that is somehow they come and help the Yellowstone,

[00:37:47] which I know I'm being very Pollyannish because the, wait, let me get to straight Spencer. My cousin died and you didn't help him. I mean, that's the problem. So, I mean, I see both sides to it, but we'll see what happens. So, uh, we have Spencer now on foot. Um, and then he's just, he's just pronting along and then we hear gunshots, right? And I fully expected. Oh,

[00:38:12] of course. Like, cause that guy is like the dumbest person in the world. I mean, you know, when they're coming, when they came up with dumb people, I mean, he was at the top of the list. Yeah. It's just, it's like, dude, it's like, well, and look, it goes by, by and or so it appears. Well, no, I think he went by, by. Yeah. And if he didn't go by, by, they were going to make him go by, by because not only did he, he go off, he started shooting and they started shooting

[00:38:42] back. So, you know, yeah. And I, and I think at that point in time, it was, that was around the time, you know, I think the early twenties was the time of Bonnie and Clyde. Yeah. And I wasn't sure exactly what year they died, but I've seen the car that they were in. Yeah. You know, the actual car. Oh, wow. In, in Nevada, they have it at a, the last place I saw it was a place called

[00:39:05] Terribles and at the, at the border. Okay. And it was full of holes. Oh, I bet it was. I bet it was because while they, Bonnie and Clyde were pretty seriously, seriously bad. No, yeah, no, they're, they were definitely some criminals, not like our, not like our, you know, dumbass guy here. Um, he gives, he gives the mafia a bad name. Yes, he does. And he's the reason

[00:39:34] why he was on that trip. He had a big mouth and he couldn't, he had no skills. Yeah. He was a, he was a liability. Yeah. Okay. So that finished us off, uh, finishes off that part. We'll catch up with Spencer next week, next time. I hope. Yep. Uh, so we go to my girl.

[00:39:54] We get Alexandra arriving at New York city. And this actually was amazing. Um, you know, I grew up, I grew up in New Jersey. I, the funny thing is I've never been to the statue of Liberty. Um, but I have been to Ellis Island several times only in the last couple, 20 years I've been there.

[00:40:18] I never went there when I was a kid and this really gave me a new perspective on Ellis Island. Never really thought about it, you know, how corrupt it could have been. And, um, but at the same time, you know, what they did wasn't wrong in this sense, it was wrong the way they did it,

[00:40:44] but it wasn't wrong why they were doing it. Does that make sense? Yeah. Meaning you're bringing all these thousands of hundreds of thousands of people into this country and they want to make sure that they're not going to have another outbreak of something or something worse. Now, the way this whole happened was absolutely, I mean, I was nauseated. I mean, it was wrong and it was not

[00:41:10] fun. I mean, they were basically these poor women were getting raped, um, in so many words. Uh, and sometimes they probably were getting raped, but, uh, I love how Alexandra keeps her composure and through it all, she still maintains her royalness for lack of a better term.

[00:41:39] Um, and actually her royalness is what actually gets her out of it. I think. Yeah. Cause, uh, but, uh, if we want to start from the beginning, let's start from the beginning. So, you know, she tried to get off, off that boat in a hurry and it's like, well, no, you're not going here. And it's like, well, what, what about those people? It's like, well, they did all their papers beforehand. But see the one thing that happens, like if her family knew that when, you know, when she, when she up and disappeared, you know, if she had done her papers, they know,

[00:42:09] you know, they know where they would know where they were. Yeah. Yeah. And so they would have maybe signaled in, they put a, like an all points out for her. Oh yeah. No, no. They would have, they would have brought her back. Yeah. They would have brought her back. So, so there is a trade-off, you know, you get your anonymity and your, I mean, your secrecy, but you know, you have a little bit more crap to go through. Right. And she has the troubles like, well, my, you know, I, I named,

[00:42:33] you know, this, I married my husband and going to see my husband in Montana. It's like, yeah, I've heard this story before. And, and, you know, when you think about it, it does make sense why he's so skeptical. Yeah. But at the same time, look at her. She's not like this. She's, she, she looks

[00:42:55] the least con artist type person possible. And you know, what I also love about, well, first off, let's back up. So to paint the scene, she gets into Ellis Island and you have to understand if you've never seen Ellis Island, it, it actually Ellis Island was built from all of the, the newer

[00:43:23] part was built from all of the dirt from the subways. Okay. Now what they would do is they would quarantine people for X amount of time. It was always about measles and other stuff as well. So it was almost like a little city of its own. My, my, I believe my great grandfather came, my great grandfather on my one side and my great, great grandfather on my other family came through

[00:43:53] Ellis Island. So I have a little bit of a connection. And, and it's just really neat building. And they're, they're really trying to redo it to make it look as much of its glory. And for those of you that don't know, if you do have family at Ellis Island, you can actually go there and look at the records. And why do I bring that up? Because when she gets there, she, they ask

[00:44:21] her for her name and she's always said, Alexander of Sussex. Well, now she's Alexander Dutton. Mm-hmm. And I, I find that that way, that probably happened to a lot. I mean, a lot of people's names were changed because the people didn't have the people writing it, didn't know how to, uh, understand it, all sorts of different reasons. And in this case, you could just become a different person.

[00:44:48] We had no, we didn't have computers like we do today. Um, then they bring her into the, the examinating room where she has not one, not two, but three, um, examinations. And I love the first, the first person that was examining her punches her gut. Yeah. And I thought about that for a second. I'm like, why would they do that? Because if she did have a baby, it might be a miscarriage.

[00:45:16] Yeah. You know, I mean, there's a whole bunch of, but I loved how she questioned it. They wrote on her belly that she's pregnant and what's really kind of neat. You know, I don't, I don't say that, you know, is there was a nurse in the room at least. I was surprised to see that, but, um, I, I loved how the first doctor was just like very, this is a procedure. We have to do this.

[00:45:44] I don't want to be here more than you do. Trust me. He didn't have a good attitude about it, but I think he was the best of all of them. What do you think? Well, use a professional, perfect. Well, professional, but it's like, you know, it's, um, not a very pleasant fellow, but I will say this. Okay. In his defense and he does have a defense. And if you want to rail me

[00:46:08] for this point, fine. I, I, I can take it. You're doing this. You're doing like 20, 30 X amount of these a day and you're getting the same story all the time. And again, I understand that you, you have to be respectful of people. I mean, I'm in the medical field. I get it, but there's, there's a lot of, I mean, these, this wasn't exactly an easy job and, and I'm not saying that,

[00:46:37] that that's, that's defending him. I'm just saying I can totally see why people get jaded really quick doing this kind of work. It's not easy work. I mean, it's not easy work and I don't envy them, but at the same time, it's sad that anytime there's a position of power, people will try to take advantage of it. And also it works the other way too, which we found out when she

[00:47:04] was in the waiting room. I don't know if you want to talk about that. You mean the, uh, her fellow, uh, the, the other lady that was asking her for food and then some money or, or the woman that was real loose. That was like, Oh, I'm going to go. Is that, was that the same person? Same person. Oh, really? Okay. I know. Like she took the Spencer approach and smacked her. Yeah. Oh, I know. I love that. Yeah. She, she's learning a lot from Spencer, but, um, and then she, then

[00:47:30] they call her name and she's like holding his tie and all that. And I, I loved the, the battle when she went into that office. Oh, the, the immigration guy, the, like doing the final questioning and it's could, could, could he have been more of a dick? Yeah. But again, he's saying, well, we've always read this, you know, it was a, uh, uh, your husband is a, uh, uh, handsome rancher and going to Montana.

[00:47:58] Yes. Likely story. But I love, I love the fact that when she walked in the room, he was zipping his pants up. I mean, could they make it any more sleazy? And yeah, like I, I, she, she undressed him. Uh, the way he would probably undress these women. And I love when it was at Whitman. That

[00:48:23] was the book. Yeah. Yeah. She was feeding out of leaves of grass. Well, the best part was just read the first. No, no, no, no, no. I'm going to find a, a passage that is appropriate for this situation. And it was just like, you're a dick and I'm going to stick it to you. And the best thing that she did, that monologue was mod. It's a, you could, you could use that monologue almost

[00:48:51] till today in some ways. Yeah. And when she quoted what's on the, um, on the tablet, on the Statue of Liberty, it's saying, she's like, I, I raised money for that tablet. You son of a bitch. Yeah. And the other one, but see the one thing that says, you know, uh, give me your head old masses yearning to breathe free. It's like, this is the least free I have felt. Yes. And you know, I'm not going to, I'm not going to lie. You know, we, you and I are

[00:49:19] lucky. We got, we, we got born into this place and you know, being an American, I mean, I love being an American. I'm not, this isn't about that, but it's, it's hard. It's hard. And you know, people come from all over the world to, for some silly, smart, dumb reason to be Americans.

[00:49:42] And, and I think it's great. And, you know, seeing this process this way, the, it's like peeling an onion and it's not pretty, but the main thing is at the end of the day, she got through this knucklehead and it was like, I know what I'm doing here. You're a jerk. Yeah. And you may get away

[00:50:04] with this 99% of the time, but you're not going to get away with it with me. Yeah. And yeah, she gets her paper stamped accepted and she's out of there. And then she decides to go to Penn station station. And, um, I, I, do you want to keep going with, yeah, I thought it was grand central. Oh, I'm sorry. Grand central. I'm sorry. Cause I was like, it looked like grand central station. No, no. Yeah. I've been to both. Uh, um, and I, what I love is, you know, New Yorkers may get a

[00:50:33] good or a bad rap, but, um, you know, there's nothing like New York and there's nothing like when you help people. And I love the ticket person. Cause that's typical of what you would have seen then. And today. Yeah. Yeah. But I do also like the guy at the newsstand where she bought the map. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, you know, it's like, uh, don't travel here. Don't travel on,

[00:51:00] you know, don't travel on empty streets. Right. No, but that's the, that's the thing is that, you know, she's a single white female in a, in a city. And let's put it this way. New York wasn't exactly the New York of today. And it was in New York of today. Isn't exactly, you know, the best either. So, um, you know, you, you, you have to be a little street smart and she definitely doesn't look street smart. Um, I love how she kept everything in her shoe and then she took it out

[00:51:29] and the guy's like, yeah, somebody already knows where it is. So she put it in her bra, but the best of all was when she was looking for different routes and she's like, Oh, and he's like, yeah, you don't go to Philly at night. And then, you know, good. Why am I going to Boston? Yeah. You don't go to Philly at night. I can reroute you. But I mean, thinking about how to get to Montana back then, there's no planes. There's no, I mean that, that, that's crazy town. That's like a week and she couldn't afford it. And she couldn't afford a, a single. Yeah. And I, and I didn't look it up,

[00:51:59] but it's like when he said like $121 and I was like, Holy smokes, that's a lot. That's like five, $10,000 today. Actually, hang on. Let me see. I mean, and, and I loved how, like I said, he was like, Oh, you might get stuck with a bunch of kids and in a, in a, in a room and you might have this, you might have that. Who knows what you might find.

[00:52:25] Um, I thought he was going to give it to her. Yeah. Like I really thought he was going to give her the single, but yeah. Um, I'm reading here. I just did a quick search on this roughly two within, uh, for inflation, roughly $2,000. Okay. So for two grand, you can go, um, to Montana. Maybe if the, if, if, if the snow is not there. Yeah. And that's the, uh, the, and that's like

[00:52:54] the private sleeper coach. Yes. So for only, you know, 1500, you get to go for and get like tuberculosis or something. Yes, exactly. Yeah. And, but when, and when she's like walking around, you know, walking around the city, it's like, lady, get on a train, get the hell out of town. Well, and the funny part was, you know, he was just there. So, um, so yeah, no, I mean, I, I think,

[00:53:21] I think that good things happen sometimes to good people and, and people take chances and, um, hopefully she doesn't have too much of a problem. I can't wait to see when she shows up, if Spencer's not there and hello. Yeah. Um, it's like, I'm Spencer Dutton's wife or I, or, or he might get there before. I mean, that'll be the big question you think,

[00:53:49] or they might get there together. Who knows? But, um, so what else you got there, Jerry? So, um, yeah, I was just going to say, you know, traveling for anybody alone is still, you know, is still perilous at times. Absolutely. Because there was a time, um, it was about 12 years ago. I drove out to Texas for my cousin's funeral. Right. And when I got off the interstate, I mean, you know, filled up at the, uh, you know, I had rented a car to go halfway across the country and driving from California to Texas

[00:54:19] isn't a short distance. No, it seems like it is, but it's not, it's not because Texas is freaking huge. And so that's a problem. So is Arizona and New Mexico. Well, no, you could say you're in Texas. That doesn't mean anything. There's like, you could put three States, uh, you know, horizontal or vertical, and you still don't get out of the damn state. Exactly. But, um, um, but I got off the interstate and just, you know, filled up with gas and got back on, on, um, on a, on a highway

[00:54:47] on a diagonal to where I was going. Right. And I didn't see another car for at least an hour. That's scary. That's terrifying. Yeah. No, no, that's scary. I mean, I totally get it with you. Yeah. I'm, I'm with you on that. Um, yeah, so it is perilous for anybody, but, uh, we finish out the episode with the letter, you know, Alexander's writing another letter, which I, you know, if I, if I can get Isabel May, I, I will take Julia Schlap for any day. Of course you will. I know you

[00:55:14] will. Of course voiceovers go. Yeah. But it looks like, you know, she's, she's heading into the women's room and looks like, uh, somebody is going to follow her in there. Right. That's where we end. So it looks like she's going to get mugged or something worse. Yeah. But you know, she is a Dutton, so she knows how to handle herself a little kick to the knee and get out. Who knows? Um, well, she, she, uh, she was able to get out of a situation where an elephant had

[00:55:44] turned the car she was writing in. True. I mean, she, she's a girl that knows how to get it done. So, um, I, I have, I have my faith in her. Uh, I, you know, I, I'm not liking the family tree cause it shows that they don't have any kids, but, um, who knows? Maybe they'll surprise us. Uh, well, that's not a, for sure though. That's what I mean. Like, like, you know, these family

[00:56:11] trees, they, they can always change cause they decide that they want to go in a different direction. Um, so do you have any other points or things you want to talk about? Um, no, I think I'm good cause we talked about an awful lot today. I know we went, this is our longest podcast. Uh, it's almost an hour and folks, I, I just want to, you know, say, you know, these titles are really uplifting.

[00:56:35] I mean, wrap the in terror. And then next week we're going to be doing the journey. Um, wait, what is it journey? The rivers on the iron of iron. Um, and I'm assuming that's going to do a lot with the cattle. Uh, so that'll be my, that might be a lot of rainwater, uh, storyline, but yeah, no, this has been a tough, tough, uh, season so far. I mean, we have, we've only

[00:57:04] been with the Duttons for maybe what? A couple of weeks. I mean, we're not talking a long time and, or if it has been, it's been a long winter. Like she said, um, hopefully we'll get out of winter before the end of the season. Um, and like I said, next week will be like the mid season, um, break, not finale, but the mid season. So hopefully we'll, we'll get even more answers.

[00:57:32] Um, and yeah, I mean, I'm, I'm looking at the, I'm just looking at the schedule and I'm like, you know, they got a lot to cover that's for sure. And we'll be here to cover every episode. So, uh, I want to thank everybody for listening. And again, if you want to subscribe, tell a friend, tell two, cause you know, being the official unofficial Yellowstone world podcast,

[00:57:57] it does take a toll. I mean, Jerry was like, you know, 20 years old when we started this. And by the time they release all these things, you know, who knows how old they'll be when we're all done, but, um, anything else, Mr. Jerry? Uh, nope, that is it. Okay. So my name is Alex. My name is Jerry and we will be back to the craziness next week. See ya.
