[00:00:00] Hmm? AHHH! Ah, I should have known, Larusso. When you're here to raft, make sure your guy wins. Relax. I'm just busting your balls. Don't worry, I'm not gonna kick your ass either. I concede. What, you backing down? No, I'm conceding. There's a difference.

[00:00:31] Look, I've thought a lot about it. At the end of the day, Eagle Fang is just another version of Cobra Kai. Cobra Kai is John Crease's legacy. I don't want anything to do with that asshole ever again. Plus working with you guys may be a better sensei.

[00:00:47] It's made by students stronger, our students. So I don't want to just teach offense only anymore. I want to do whatever it takes to help lead Miyagi-Do to victory. Let's make sure it's your sensei's legacy that even lives on. Miyagi-Do's lucky to have you, Johnny. Dush.

[00:01:07] I'm just personally glad you guys aren't gonna fight. What do you mean? We're still fighting. Wait, what? Why? Why not? Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast on Casey. And I'm Richard. And this is Cobra Kai Cast. This week we're covering Cobra Kai Season 6,

[00:01:46] Episode 1 titled Peace Time in the Valley. It's all very nice and peaceful. It was, yeah it was well. It was peaceful I guess. There's only one fight. Yeah, I mean it's funny because the fight was because Robbie and Kenny's brother,

[00:02:06] brother Sean both want Kenny to be less aggressive. And so everyone fought. Yeah. And I just think like in The Walking Dead, they have to have zombies in every episode. And in Cobra Kai, they have to have karate in every episode. Yeah, that felt a little forced, sure.

[00:02:28] It's fine, I don't mind. And then even the fight with like Chosen and Johnny and Daniel got up in the mix there. It was almost like they were pillow fighting. They were play fighting. Yeah, why not? Yeah. That's right.

[00:02:42] Well we already had an episode about a week and a half ago to catch people up on where we were in the story and talk about what we were hoping for season six. But if you didn't hear that, then hey, what's up? Welcome back to the podcast.

[00:02:55] We're so happy to be back in to Cobra Kai for the final season here, excited about it and ready to get going with this new season. I'm pretty stoked. Yeah, just for listeners too. I've only watched, I think have you only watched the first episode so far?

[00:03:12] I haven't seen the second one yet. Yeah, I mean we used to do two at a time but we thought since they're only dropping five at a time here that we'll just slow it down a little and do one at a time.

[00:03:22] So we don't know anything that's happened after this episode and I think I like doing it that way better because I don't want to accidentally spoil something but it's painful not to be able to watch ahead. Yeah, especially when I was thinking earlier I'm like what's gonna happen?

[00:03:40] I have all these ideas and theories about what's gonna happen and I'm like well half the world's already seen the next four episodes. I know. I don't want to sound too stupid but... We will, don't worry, it's fine. We have license to make bad predictions. Yeah, that's right.

[00:03:56] I should also mention Rima's not with us today. Scheduling didn't work out, I'm in Scotland and I had this tiny window to do it but she should be back next time. She'll be with us next time. We miss you Rima. We miss you.

[00:04:09] So I'm gonna read a synopsis of the episode. People have been saying they like when we do that just to kind of remind them what happened before we start talking about it and this is from Wikipedia. It says, Following the demise of Cobra Kai,

[00:04:22] the students of both Miyake Do and Eagle Fang prepare for the Sakai Taikai after disagreements over their training styles Johnny and Chosen challenge each other to a fight. Daniel learns that Chosen's pride was wounded when Silver stabbed him in the back

[00:04:36] and Kumako did not reply to his voice messages. Miguel tries to ease the tension between Sam and Tori while Robbie attempts to make amends with Kenny but he encounters Sean who tells him to leave Kenny alone. Robbie and Miguel take on Sean

[00:04:50] while Sam and Tori try to convince Kenny to join their dojo but to no avail. After receiving a text message Johnny goes to Coyote Creek where Stingray tells him to retake the Cobra Kai brand with Crease and Silver gone. The next morning, Johnny concedes

[00:05:05] Daniel that Miyake Do has the right to represent the students in the Sakai Taikai but he and Chosen still have their fight because why not? After a talk with Sean, Kenny joins Miyake Do elsewhere, Crease enters Kim Dae-yoon's dojo while elsewhere is in Korea I presume

[00:05:22] telling the students that Cobra Kai is back. Yeah, that ending scene man it looked like it was some sort of cult or something sacrificing an animal at the altar or whatever man, jeez. Dark tense. I mean it was good to have that

[00:05:38] because it was all like pretty nicey nice so it was nice to have like a just straight up villain at the end there. Yeah, it always takes like a left turn and you're like oh man where's the next episode going?

[00:05:51] So what did you think of this one in general? I liked it mainly because it was you know we got to see everybody again so it's been a long time and it just had a good feeling especially the opening

[00:06:03] I think is my favorite part of the whole episode and then in the end we also got kind of how everybody's positioned to move forward here so I thought it was well written, well done. Yeah, I liked it. Yeah me too, I think you're right

[00:06:19] we've had two years since this show was on and so this kind of an opening was especially good because of that because we've been missing these characters and we've forgotten most of what we knew about them so it's nice to just be reminded

[00:06:33] for some of them that they even exist but it was yeah just a good feeling like seeing a bunch of old friends and also just to see them get along and stuff I like that. I mean if there were three episodes in a row like this

[00:06:45] where everybody's getting wrong that would just suck totally but for one it was kind of nice. Yeah, that's part of what I was thinking too is like well we can talk about it but two years is a long time

[00:06:58] some of the characters are starting to show their age I noticed everybody was looking a little older except for frickin Ralph Maccio, what the hell man? Yeah, I read that you know this show started in 2018 so that means about six years have passed

[00:07:15] and yeah these kids are at an age where that really shows but I think within the universe it's only been two years Is that right? I think so Well Anthony is a fast grower then Slimmed up too Alright, what do you got for your first point?

[00:07:33] I think it's the beginning I think it was the reintroduction of all the characters I mean I sat down and turned it on and he got the music going and there is no... they handled it really well It's like yay! The first scene, Carmen's still pregnant

[00:07:49] so I guess not too much time has passed huh? Yeah we had thought mate I read and I guess it was speculation or what that a year would have passed but no, that didn't happen Yeah well we know it's less than nine months

[00:08:02] Then we saw Johnny, Robbie and Miguel they're all living together, it looked like at least that's what I'm going to assume which is pretty cool Oh I didn't catch that yeah They're all in the same apartment Anthony and Samantha are looking good

[00:08:18] Anthony got big, yeah he's tall now He's beautiful as always of course as they say Chosen was there, I liked his reintroduction he was reading the article in the newspaper Marshall Arts Mayhem with shots of silver increasing there I stopped and read the article it wasn't that interesting

[00:08:37] it was just like these two karate friends started at a dojo and then they ended up differing in their teaching methods and then the students ended up fighting each other and causing mayhem in the valley and then there was another article that was about like

[00:08:51] a lot of it was just gibberish but one seemed to be about two people who used to be clowns and underwater basket weavers and were murdered Yeah Someone had fun with that huh Yeah I guess so The hawk, let's see what else

[00:09:09] we saw hawk and Demetri looking good saw the whole gang Arriving for their senior year Yeah yeah I kind of caught that must be the first day of school Robbie and Tori together, Miguel and Sam together Looks like it was the first day of school I based

[00:09:26] I kind of based that on how happy all the kids were about going to schools like normally I don't think they're that happy Yeah coming in like all wide eyed What's this year gonna be like? Yeah right

[00:09:38] And then also it looked like everyone was pretty good except for Kenny still kind of brooding there so in that opening you got the idea that everyone's settle down everyone's ready to go except maybe Kenny Amanda said something about Sam applying to college Anthony's starting high school

[00:09:57] just kind of positioning everybody I really enjoyed it and Daniel says then what do you say Daniel say we kind of got a glimpse into his mentality about it if Daniel says if they win the tournament kids around the world will want to join Miyagi though

[00:10:12] so his goals basically the same as Silver's but just for Miyagi though He said that and then he said and then she's like so karate is going to be a part of our life forever and he goes oh no I'm gonna retire

[00:10:25] so you just said everyone's gonna want to join Miyagi though but then you're gonna retire then he said I want to pass on Miyagi's teachings to the world so it's not exactly clear what he has in mind there

[00:10:37] yeah I figured it was just a device to kind of end the show you know and oh yeah I guess because last season and all that but absolutely yeah the Sakai Taikai as Dmitri said is like this hundred year tournament they have every two years

[00:10:52] where they gather all the dojos around the world and find the best one and so yeah that's a good way to end the Cobra Kai series yeah spread Miyagi though around the world and then retire

[00:11:06] and so how are they gonna spread it they'll get into the ring and the Miyagi though student says I choose not to fight yeah we don't strike first take a swing buddy I don't want to join that dojo I know that's lame

[00:11:25] my first one is about peace the episodes called peace time in the valley and it's interesting because the series has been so dramatic and there's been so many rivalries and there's so much conflict but a lot of that has been resolved over the previous five seasons

[00:11:45] the rivalries have been worked out people are friends who weren't friends and the show really leaned into that this episode which I kind of love because you might expect the writers to be like oh crap we need to quickly introduce some conflict here

[00:12:01] we kind of blew it you know every other thing is all nice but no they just called it peace time in the valley and really leaned to it and I love how they're so unexpected a lot of the time they don't do what I expect they're gonna do

[00:12:14] and I like that it almost felt like an epilogue to the series to me like it could have ended there and I think when Daniel said to Amanda oh yeah we're just about done we've won but we're just gonna do this one tournament and that's it

[00:12:31] I'm like if you just didn't do that everything would be fine but now you've opened the door to a lot of hardship a lot it's gonna be an international tournament with enemies who are a lot bigger than your local you know peace at the mall

[00:12:50] so it opens with that song our yo speed wagons roll with the changes very upbeat mood yeah yeah and it's just everybody getting along and I liked Anthony you know Daniel Sun steals his croissant

[00:13:06] and Daniel goes to grab it and he blocks but they're looking at you like oh oh they're all smiley and you know he's we saw him early on just being a total pain in the ass

[00:13:16] but now it looks like he's happy and well adjusted and they're getting along and he's still learning karate and everything like you said Hakan Dmitri we see Robin Robbie and Tori are still together and I think he showed her a college acceptance letter

[00:13:29] I think he showed that he got into college and then she kissed him yeah Miguel and Sam are still together then yeah Anthony and Kenny giving each other a look at school there's one rivalry that has not been settled yet

[00:13:46] Daniel sees two workers throwing the big Cobra Kai logo in the dumpster and he gets a big smile on his face yeah I saw that too I'm not above dumpster diving I would totally take that sign hanging up my garage it's a cool logo

[00:14:07] it confused me a little I thought I should probably go back and watch the final episode but I thought that yeah even though Terry Silver went to jail that he had opened up a bunch of dojos and so I thought Cobra Kai was this huge franchise

[00:14:23] and that Kim Deyoon owned 50% of it so I just thought okay well she's going to be the head of Cobra Kai but I think it seems like it's just defunct and maybe that's just because after what happened their reputation was in the trash and they everybody left

[00:14:37] I think that's not it yeah I was thinking maybe some authorities shut it down yeah no can't have this no more at Miyagi Do they're all training and it's just about everyone all the former Cobra Kai kids Anthony penis breath shows up penis breath

[00:14:58] bitch and if you remember he was one of the biggest traders he pretended to be with Miyagi Do but he was spying for Cobra Kai last season so that's why they were so like what are you doing here but then they let him in

[00:15:11] Kenny ends up there by the end Kyler is the only one who I didn't see and I wonder if he'll be involved or if that actor just won't be around anymore I would think he'd be involved

[00:15:25] then Sam and Tori now they're on the same side but not friendly yet so Miguel and Robbie want to try to get them to be friends and they do end up kind of at least starting to bond basically over fighting Kenny together that's why you gotta fight

[00:15:45] I love also that it seems like Robbie and Miguel have totally failed to bring Kenny around and his brother Sean is in there saying get away from him but then when Sean gets Kenny alone he turns reasonable and just recognizes that Kenny has gotten really aggressive and angry

[00:16:04] doesn't want him to end up like him going to juvenile hall he says you're becoming a man now Ken it's time for you to decide the kind of man that you want to be

[00:16:11] and suggest that he go give Robbie another chance and Kenny does go to Miyagi Do and I just this series constantly does that turning villains into good guys and then they're all working together and it just makes me wish our society could be like that

[00:16:26] that people in our country for one who had differences could work it out and get unified you know so yeah but it'd be nice they're also good at turning good guys into bad guys too so sometimes yeah and I'm sure that'll happen this season right that's the worry

[00:16:44] I mean in our catch up episode we talked about how all these rivalries have been settled and we wondered if they would flare up again like with Johnny and Daniel end up hating each other

[00:16:53] and we kind of thought I don't know man they've already been there so much that it feels like it's been done but I do think at least some will you know

[00:17:05] you gotta think you gotta think so after for 15 episodes there's gonna have to be some conflict among all these characters right right because yeah I've I've feeling the same way like halfway through this episode I thought well where's the drama gonna come from

[00:17:18] yeah everybody's united you know it can't all just be from crease I don't think right his students a lot of hope not

[00:17:27] like you said already been there done that yeah but for right now everything's peaceful and they could have I think called this episode the calm before the storm probably right right lowly into a false sense of we're all had one big happy family all right what else

[00:17:49] I'm glad this I'm glad this first episode positioned everybody to focus on the tournament because that's what I want to see I want to see this tournament I want to see some international fighters do some badass stuff I want to see Miyagi though do some cool karate shit

[00:18:07] that's ultimately what I want to see at this international tournament yeah we need to see the best karate we've ever seen the best yeah by far

[00:18:14] I want him to recapture that moment in the original movie when he does his crane kick you know and you're like yeah yeah I think the only way they can because we're desensitized is to have a kid kick another kid's head off completely

[00:18:31] kick him in the nothing as eyeballs get you balls pop out and it goes over to Daniel he's like you did it kid well done Johnny is super happy yeah proud that's right that'd be a bold move

[00:18:53] but then but then I was I'm also like that's what I want to see but so far away I was like 14 episodes away so it's not like they can go over there right now I mean I guess they could but they have to train first

[00:19:04] gotta be some complications in there yeah yeah I hope they just don't use crease again as the local bully trying to divide and conquer everybody but it did it seemed I think you just said it too it seemed like he was in Korea right

[00:19:19] yeah I just presume that I could be wrong but I we know he's on the run from the loss so that would be one way if he could figure out how to get overseas to stay going back to jail

[00:19:30] that would totally make sense because you know even a man just said well what if Chris shows up and he's like I've creed shows up there's Marshall's all over the place are going to take him back to jail so and plus they were speaking Korean

[00:19:42] yeah and that's where she's from yeah so okay yeah she's in it too now so Chris and what was her name Kim Dae Yoon Kim Dae Yoon maybe they're gonna be a bigger problem or maybe they're gonna do something internationally they will

[00:19:58] I mean hopefully people don't care that I say this but the poster had all our heroes front and center and then the background and the shadows was what crease on one side and Kim Dae Yoon on the other the bad guys yeah and no Terry Silver

[00:20:13] yeah I can see them like trying to sabotage something so that they could win yeah but if they are overseas then it seems like we'll probably have some other story things come up first here in states and then they'll go overseas and deal with them

[00:20:30] yeah gonna have to have some internal drama huh yeah yeah yeah and hopefully we'll get to see Johnny be a dad that's one of my hopes for the season yeah yeah yeah that's gonna be hard to write although I have a lot of trust for these writers they

[00:20:43] yeah tend to write really well it's gotta be bigger this season you know and hope they deliver I think they will yeah I'm like 99% sure so if they don't it's gonna be a huge disappointment at this point yeah I hope they don't just phone it in

[00:20:57] oh it's the last season yeah who cares we're done okay my next one is legacy which another theme of karate kid and copperkai's legacy since it's about the importance of good role models

[00:21:08] and good teachers then that ties into it being concerned with how things are passed on down through generations and how things are remembered

[00:21:16] and a legacy is about like the lasting impact of something and even on a metal level it's about the legacy of the movies with all the

[00:21:25] that appear in the show and how it's extended the legacy of the karate kid movies but as the show starts to wrap things up I'm sure the legacy of the show itself is on the writer's minds what they want to leave in our minds and end strong

[00:21:39] and so they're they're I think they're thinking about that and they're writing it into the story having it be on the minds of the characters too because a lot of this episode was about that

[00:21:50] it feels like in a lot of different ways the characters are moving into new phases like Daniel saying he's won his bad battles and he's thinking about retiring from teaching karate after the Sakai Takai

[00:22:01] the kids are in their senior year getting ready to go off to college so they will they will all disperse and separate

[00:22:09] and so now this one last hurrah will be this huge tournament they're all mostly on the same side so they need to figure out what they will be as a unified force what is their dojo what will this final phase be

[00:22:22] and so we get a little drama here with Danny chosen to Johnny arguing it over it yeah but the kids are our way ahead of them there Mitch comes in with this shirt with the logo with a half

[00:22:33] boneless I have eagle and then Dimitri and talk Hawk unveil their new dojo name and logo Miyagi Fang karate with Miyagi with big fangs and flames on it

[00:22:45] picture Miyagi out with fangs that was funny cartoon Miyagi I hated that shirt so much and the Miyagi Fang symbol Johnny I noticed loved it he was clapping going yeah what did you think yeah yeah I was like that's not going to fly as soon as they showed it I'm like nope

[00:23:04] that's not gonna work and then they show Daniel's face and he was all yeah Daniel's like me he's like this is offensive on many different different levels from a design perspective and also just hurts my heart

[00:23:17] right but I was also laughing like I like how the kids are trying to do something good yeah and to name the dojo and all it did was cause a fight between their senseis

[00:23:28] but yeah you're right they their heart was in the right place so then seeing how this sort of argument among the three senseis played out it's interesting chosen really seemed to care about the Miyagi don't name and because Kumako didn't respond to his voicemail he says Miyagi does all he has left and I had to go back and look at it but after karate

[00:23:55] after karate kid two where he threatened Kumako and tried to kill Daniel he felt a lot of shame after that he was kind of ostracized and so he tried to mend his ways and make up for it and he came to learn and respect Miyagi's ways and start teaching it and learning it himself

[00:24:11] he may have learned some before that too I'm not sure but um so that's why it's so important to him it's all about that legacy for him

[00:24:19] Johnny though Johnny was more interesting to me he he making a case for keeping the eagle thing name he says look man when Chris stole Cobra Kai from me I had to build eagle thing from scratch but I made it a real dojo took us to the all valley

[00:24:33] helped us earn a spot in the Sakai Takai it's not just a name it's what it represents and I'm like yeah that that's pretty powerful you're always wait for him to say something dumb or funny but that just made sense

[00:24:44] yeah and you know what stingrays little speech speaking you know speaking Johnny's language pretty good speech telling him about how influential and in confident building sense what a confidence building sense he was and then

[00:24:57] well then you kind of destroyed it all there yeah but he was well he said it in Johnny's terms he said to win this thing it's going to take a badass dojo and a badass sensei yeah and you know that's he says Cobra Kai is your legacy man

[00:25:15] and and I thought it was a pretty good speech you can't really tell what Johnny thinks of it he's just take right in and then Daniel you see Dan and it just cuts off there so we don't know what Johnny says to that then Daniel is talking to

[00:25:34] chosen and he says he's we should let Johnny name the dojo eagle Fang he says Mr. Miyagi never cared about tournaments or his legacy he cared about teaching karate the right way and we can under that under any name even eagle Fang and chosen says but eagle Fang name is stupid yeah

[00:25:54] the real reason we're going to fight dad says that doesn't matter this is about going to this tournament under a unified banner without having to fight over it okay but then right then Johnny shows up and concedes Johnny look I've thought about it at

[00:26:07] the end of the day eagle Fang is just another version of Cobra Kai Cobra Kai is John Crease's legacy I don't want anything to do with that asshole ever again plus working with you guys has made me a better sense it's made my students stronger are students so I don't want to just teach

[00:26:21] offense only anymore I want to do whatever it takes to help lead Miyagi to victory let's make sure it's your sense is legacy that lives on I mean Johnny's a change man Johnny season one would have never said anything like that then they bow and they look each other in the

[00:26:35] eye like Mr. Miyagi taught it was a really good feeling I thought yeah well yeah on several levels because he's he's finally got a relationship with his kid he's got Miguel they're all living happily together he's got a new one on the way yeah

[00:26:49] it's time he grew up and I think we're starting to see a little bit of that yeah I mean there was a part of me that's like is he being like is this a scam right we didn't hear what he said because I just keep thinking that by the end of this Johnny's

[00:27:08] gonna be in charge of Cobra Kai and maybe maybe I'm wrong about that but I actually do think he was serious here and when he heard stingray say Cobra Kai is your legacy I think his reaction was no I don't want that to be my legacy and that's

[00:27:24] gonna go to Daniel and say that but maybe by the end of this he could say well it could be my legacy if I just change what Cobra Kai means or something like that you know yeah maybe that's what I thought to I thought stingray was building a good case and I was like oh no is Johnny gonna turn again and then he said Cobra Kai is your legacy man and I was like oh no that killed it

[00:27:45] oh you realized it in the moment yeah I realized it in the moment I was like oh yeah that's right that's what this is all about he realizes Eagle Fang is just an offshoot Cobra Kai which is Chris's deal and he doesn't like Chris so I believe that part so I think yeah

[00:27:59] and even if he did manage to defeat Chris one way or another and take over Cobra Kai it may not be a bad thing because he's changed he may can turn Cobra Kai into a good thing now you know

[00:28:09] and that's this whole series is about people changing one way or the other so I think by the end and you know it was weird that it was named Cobra Kai in the first place because they were the bad guys but yeah I do feel like by the end what Cobra Kai means will have changed too

[00:28:28] last thing on this is they did get a new design it's a new patch with a bonsai tree with an eagle flying above it very tasteful I thought that's a good way to combine the two concepts and they're all Daniel Johnny chosen all the students all wearing white

[00:28:43] he's all very unified so it's just like going into the the season very strong and unified and that's that's interesting you'd expect there to be more I guess since they have 15 episodes to work with they can afford to have them seem very strong right now and have plenty of time to fuck everything up for everybody

[00:29:05] absolutely what are they half hour episodes yeah seven more hours of flipping and flopping what's gonna happen what else anything else

[00:29:20] yeah we talked a lot about a lot of it some of it you know what I appreciated too about this episode is that it answered all of my questions that I had as I was watching the episode and it just so happened they answered the question as I was thinking about it

[00:29:34] I was like man these guys are good you know you'd say like I'd see I'd see them at the dojo all three of them all three senses and I like what are they gonna name the dojo and then boom kids come up with a name you know I was like oh that started a whole fight stuff

[00:29:49] I started wonder why chosen was still in the country you know you figure he'd go back home after he accomplished his mission which was come help and they covered that what's the problem with Kenny they they covered that well we I think they covered it you know it's just he's confused young man yeah I mean they left him he was he's been the most one of the most vicious characters not the most

[00:30:12] yeah but and they really left that open and I and I think it's interesting that he's with Miyagi but it feels very much like something could go wrong there especially with Anthony there because he just bullied the hell out of that kid in a really brutal way so they can't just leave that

[00:30:35] without addressing it I would think right yeah all we got was a stare back a little bit of a nod

[00:30:42] and then his brother Sean shows up and I was like oh Sean gonna be the new local bad guy but then he pulled a 180 pretty quick and I was like huh who is that actor he looks familiar I don't know good though

[00:30:57] yeah I don't sure what I saw be cool if you had more of a role

[00:31:00] yeah and that's what Kenny needs he needs like a father figure you need some direction or at least some support at home and then you know will Johnny be tempted to split and open up his own dojo I got that pretty much answered for now for now yeah

[00:31:18] and then the last question I was watching this and I'm like oh wow this is all wrapped up in a neat little bow I don't know where Crease is and then boom oh he's probably in Korea I'm glad he's a part of it too at the end here

[00:31:33] yeah creases because he didn't have a whole lot last season he was yeah I just hope they utilize him a little differently I don't want them to go back to their old ways again yeah yeah that's true I feel like they're pretty good at not feeling too repetitive

[00:31:52] but we'll see yeah what do you think about missing Terry Silver do you think you want to see him again I liked him so much but he had a pretty satisfying ending so I would be okay not having him

[00:32:08] yeah I feel like his story was wrapped up he's turning just completely evil too yeah and just that fight between him and Daniel at the end there were Daniel used all the different styles on him and did the crane kick on him and everything yeah

[00:32:21] that was good and then he went to jail so he's done we're gonna have to get to know a little bit more about Kim Da-yoon yeah and she's great like she's a good villain yeah she might be the new one huh the new master villain

[00:32:39] she's kind of hot honestly that too hey maybe her and Amanda should fight yeah yeah so I have one about funny funny moments when Johnny brings a bunch of like chains and shit from the demolished warehouse drops on the floor

[00:33:03] do you have a hose decent chance someone took a leak on this stuff oh that's right that was sad as Dojo got demolished yeah I think they were just squatting there right yeah I think yeah that's right you couldn't pay rent yeah yeah that's sad

[00:33:22] then he goes got any lighter fluid I came up with a new lesson on the drive over I call it out of the frying pan into the fire so I'm gonna need a frying pan too

[00:33:33] later on Daniel's like you want to run your shit by me before we begin so you don't burn the frickin Dojo down Johnny and Chozen arguing over the Dojo name and Johnny says they should find a compromise Chozen says no compromise Miyagi Do has honor tradition

[00:33:52] Eagle Fang has beak with teeth and no place to trade sick burn Chozen and Johnny decide the way to pick the name is to fight of course which I thought was funny in and of itself

[00:34:08] and Johnny says you want to dance with the eagle to Gucci cue the music Chozen says it will not be easy listening oh yeah what's it gonna be flutes and wind chimes and shit classic Johnny that's pretty meta almost like Johnny heard the soundtrack to the karate kid

[00:34:26] when Daniel was practicing his crane technique out on the beach or something a couple more Johnny buys this huge axe so he can chop down a tree and carry it around like Rocky in Rocky 4

[00:34:40] yeah I like how he uses a like a prop battle axe from the pawn shop to chop down a tree he's gonna be surprised at how that doesn't work well and I like that the pawn shop guy keeps showing up

[00:34:56] Stingray has a student who picks his nose and he wants to call Booger but can't because revenge of the nerds is problematic and didn't age well which I think is probably mom well the only thing I remember from any revenge of the nerd was in part 2

[00:35:11] where it's been since the 80s since I saw this but the other guy not the guy who was an ER but the other guy he slept with like some sorority girl but he had a Darth Vader mask on I think and he was pretending to be her boyfriend

[00:35:28] and then she figured out it was him but she didn't care because he was so good at sex and he said oh yeah because nerds are all good at sex because that's all we think about I don't think he's wrong

[00:35:43] yeah but I can see that not aging well right right right yeah and then last is I just like that Johnny and chosen still fought anyway even though the problem was resolved because why not yeah I thought it was hilarious when

[00:36:01] concerning the acts seen at the pawn shop when he's done and he says is it's like a mic drop right he's done saying his piece and then he just drops a lot of cash onto the counter and walks out even though it's not enough money

[00:36:13] I know and Daniel's like he just knew alright I'll pay for it it wasn't enough I know I got it I'd like to try that though sometime a lot of cash on the counter and walk out confident as hell I mean it's like four dollars or something

[00:36:29] what he thought it was worth it got anything else I thought it was pretty funny their fight it was four against two Sean and Kenny but you know like if Sean pointed out they weren't really throwing punches or kicks or nothing they were just defending and then

[00:36:47] which he noticed and he knows he's like he can sense that they're they're good people I guess yeah yeah yeah he changed that probably a big part of why he changed his mind

[00:36:58] but then right in the middle of it all we got a slow mo punch for Miguel hitting the softball I know I was like that's because they have so much karate they have to find ways to keep it new and fresh and that was like the big thing

[00:37:10] and this one Miguel punches a softball yeah at the new fast pitch area when we had that scene with with stingray too and he showed him the flyer he cut and pasted a picture off of Johnny's Facebook page who's all young handsome looking and stuff

[00:37:29] and then I was thinking to myself what parents are gonna put their kids back into Cobra Kai the resurrection classes I guess parents that just don't give a shit huh I mean if we're being real I think no one knows anything about would know anything about Cobra Kai

[00:37:46] yeah that's right no one would even know yeah oh really they're mean okay oh I don't want to put them in how much does it cost any other points uh no okay I got one more Laura and callbacks so uh

[00:38:09] the whole open this is a bit of a stretch but the opening montage I'm pretty sure the first time I ever saw anything karate kid was when we were at Somerset the junior high that Richard I went to seventh and eighth grade and there was some assembly

[00:38:23] and they showed for some reason a montage of the karate kid I think they showed them in the arcade and maybe at the Halloween dance and uh it just right away I was like oh that that just seems so attractive

[00:38:38] just kids being social and having fun and being cool and and it made me want to be in the movie with them you know and that's what this montage kind of reminded me of yeah that was a good one Johnny and Miguel

[00:38:52] see that the Eagle Fang warehouse was torn down Miguel says you don't need to have a dojo to be a dojo which is what Johnny said when he was training them in the park when Eagle Fang first got started you don't need a dojo to be a dojo

[00:39:06] oh is that right yeah sounds like a Johnny ism uh Chozen's training to fight Johnny I guess and he's chopping this huge two foot wood plank yeah which is a call back to karate kid too

[00:39:24] Chozen's Uncle Sato had a big plank like that that he kept trying to chop through it was a plank that he and Miyagi found together on the beach when they were younger and then during a storm Sato a big beam falls on his chest

[00:39:39] and Miyagi comes out and chops it in half and saves him mm-hmm so that was a call back that's cool Robbie and Miguel take Sam and Tori to golf and stuff to try to get Sam and Tori to be friends

[00:39:53] then they see Kenny and Robbie wants to try to wing Kenny over and Kenny's playing one of those arcade gun games shooting at the screen Robbie jumps in front of it and goes I give up don't shoot don't shoot and that's right out of karate kid

[00:40:06] Daniel like remember the scene in the country club where he goes to pick up Ali for the date and he sees her kissing or not kissing he sees I think Johnny kissed her and he spills spaghetti all over himself

[00:40:20] and ran away but then she punched him in the face but then he got that car for his birthday from Miyagi and drove it over to the golf and stuff to tell Ali about it goes in but she's mad at him for having left the country club

[00:40:35] without finding out what really happened and so she doesn't want to talk to him so she's playing a game just like that he jumps in front of it don't shoot don't shoot don't shoot and then golf and stuff

[00:40:45] yeah and this is the same arcade to Daniel says don't leave me I'm wounded and Ali's friend goes good maybe he'll die high school kids are mean Johnny goes to Coyote Creek where Stingray is playing this tape of Kreese fear does not exist in this dojo

[00:41:05] does it which I think is probably just lifted right out of karate kid the audio and then Stingray says class we have a visitor I've always wanted to say that which is what

[00:41:17] Kreese said when Miyagi first brought Daniel to the Kobra Kai dojo yeah kids kept bullying him I missed that that was a recording the first time I watched the episode I just thought they were using Kreese's voice to make you think Kreese was there

[00:41:30] yeah it was really stingray I did too and I was like that's an old trick but then but then the second time yeah I saw him turn it off and I was like oh it was recording yep I had the exact same experience

[00:41:41] what else well I mean some of these callbacks now because there's six seasons are from the show not the movies as there's a lot to call back on but kids are talking about applying to college

[00:41:54] and Tori says it's hard to get in anywhere when you've spent almost a year in probation probation yeah yeah I had to look that up exactly why she was on probation do you remember why oh she got kicked out of school for fighting right wasn't it

[00:42:07] basically I mean it was you know the big karate fight at the end of season two in the high school where Mikael got hurt well she instigated that because she went over to the intercom and said

[00:42:17] Samantha LaRusso I know what you did now you're gonna pay for it I'm coming for you bitch and then she attacked her with a spike bracelet and basically tried to tell her so but I think

[00:42:29] she got in more trouble than most because she's the one who instigated the whole thing right right right and I also had to look up Kenny's brother Sean just to remind myself and Sean gave

[00:42:38] Robbie a lot of shit when they were in juvie together but they ended up respecting each other and when Kenny was getting bullied at school see we already knew Sean before we met Kenny

[00:42:50] then we met Sean's little brother Kenny and Kenny was getting bullied at school and when he visited Sean in juvie Sean told him to go to Robbie and learn from him but at that point Robbie

[00:42:59] was in Cobra Kai so he brought Kenny into Cobra Kai and Kenny became a sadist and then last one is you know chosen talking about Kumako and we saw last season when they were all out at a like dance

[00:43:16] club together I love that whole sequence but Daniel encourages chosen finds out the chosen has a thing for her encourages him to call her so he calls her and says you know he wants to see

[00:43:27] her when he gets back home and maybe it was a mistake not bringing her to the states with him and then he kind of awkwardly says okay bye but I would think I don't know it seemed weird to just

[00:43:39] end it on her not calling back I feel like maybe she didn't get the message don't you think yeah I mean it's kind of an open-ended thing there so like yeah that however they want sure

[00:43:51] I mean it would make for it's not satisfying if it was just that she just didn't want to be with him so she never called back and that's it yeah I mean they have quite the history together

[00:44:00] yeah I didn't realize that he had a drinking problem right they hinted that it yeah when Daniel said are you drinking again yeah got any notes um I think we covered so much yeah

[00:44:18] I liked how the kids hawk I like how hawked described the uh how do you say it say Kate Sakai Takai Sakai Takai I think it's Sakai take Sakai take hi I don't know we'll have to figure

[00:44:36] out how I like it when he described the tournament he said it's like the Olympics glad your games and blood sport all together yeah and Johnny's like yeah yeah that's gonna be good

[00:44:48] that's what I want to see now I haven't watched one of those old movies a long time those Jean-Claude Van Damme yeah I think I watched two of the blood sport movies that was it

[00:45:00] I pretty much yeah I don't think I have much else okay I only have one other note which is Stingray hasn't been my favorite character he's definitely had his moments at this point

[00:45:11] but he's never been my favorite I find him a lot of times kind of annoying not that funny I think it was good to give him that story where he got brutalized by Terry yeah that was

[00:45:23] interesting but um anyway I've noticed that the actor Paul Walter Hauser he's getting some cachet in Hollywood since Cobra Kai started he's gotten some big roles he was the star of this 2019 Clint Eastwood directed movie called Richard Joule about the bombing

[00:45:42] of Olympics yeah yeah he was the star he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his performance as murderer Larry Hall in this 20 22 miniseries Blackbird Wow he was in Cruella he was an inside out too and coming up he's supposed to play

[00:46:00] Chris Farley in a biopic about Chris Farley no shit it's great Wow he's supposed to star in a reboot of the naked gun I don't know if he's the main guy but in it yeah he has roles in Fantastic Four this Bruce Springsteen biopic Mark

[00:46:18] Wahlberg comedy called Balls Up and a movie called Press Your Luck where he plays a contestant accused of cheating in the game show Press Your Luck Damn, busy. Yeah and that's pretty good it makes me I want to give him his due you

[00:46:34] know because I don't like when people think of actors and characters as the same person you know right yeah he's also a rapper going by the name Signet Ringer with he has one record out and he's a wrestler on the independent circuit so

[00:46:51] he's a busy guy. Geez well I'm glad he made time to come back for his little cameo. I know I was like before like oh I don't care about Stingray then you find all this about and I'm like oh good I'm glad he's back. Yeah he seemed to

[00:47:06] his character Stingray seemed to have recovered from the beating he took. That's true yeah hopefully they'll give him something good to do. I'm pre-out thinking that was probably why the main reason he made a cameo

[00:47:18] to make let us know he wasn't dead. Yeah maybe this is it you think that might have been it maybe. Yeah it's hard to say a lot of these people they come and go

[00:47:28] well they come and go in the seasons but this is the last season so maybe they gotta make an appearance before the end. Like Sam's friend from the first season or two she's gone she's never you're a man of that girl with the glasses

[00:47:42] that's true. But Anthony I think he wasn't even in like seasons two and three and then he came back. Yeah we have and like you pointed out we haven't seen Kyler yet I thought he was hilarious. Yeah I need I hope he comes back

[00:47:56] his story feels like finished to me he just seems like a total dick. They can't let that stand. He needs to switch to be good. Yeah everybody good. Alright we're back it's time for some news. We probably like always won't

[00:48:36] have a whole lot of news on this podcast because we don't want to get spoiled on things but here's a quick recap of news from our catch up that we did a week or so ago last month it was the 40th anniversary of the Karate Kid

[00:48:50] Ralph Maccio posted about it he said on the stage June 22nd 1984 the world of the Karate Kid and the LaRusso happy 40th anniversary to the Karate Kid looking ahead to one of the most exciting years yet just wrapped Cobra

[00:49:04] Kai and the new Karate Kid movie Epic Stuff on the way. How 40 years ago I know my goodness. Yeah how old is how old is Ralph Maccio he's got to be in his 60s right. I think he might be 60 or 61 somewhere in there.

[00:49:23] Impressive. Next Cobra Kai's final season you guys all probably know this but it's 15 episodes long divided into three batches of five first five are out now second five were supposed to come around later in November but they recently

[00:49:36] changed it to a couple weeks earlier so it's November 15th and then the third and final five just says sometime in 2025 I'm presuming probably in the first few months of the year maybe March or something like that. Wow well that's cool about November little before Thanksgiving treat. Yeah

[00:49:57] that'd be nice. And then last there's a new Karate Kid movie coming out in May next year stars Ralph Maccio is Daniel and Jackie Chan as Mr. Han which he played in the 2010 Karate Kid reboot starring him and Jaden Smith and

[00:50:15] I don't know what to think about this but I'm hopeful just because I know that Ralph Maccio had said no to a lot of things before Cobra Kai came along so it seems like he's kind of discerning it doesn't want to do something if it's

[00:50:28] not good. Yeah I hope that's the case. I know he could just be riding the wave of popularity too. He could. I know just one last cash in at the end there. Yeah heck yeah man paycheck. And then we have some listener

[00:50:44] Mike you want to read the message we got. Yeah Alex Krueger writes holy schnikeys what a great way to wake up it is so nice to have the gang all back on our screen interesting jumping off point for the final season.

[00:50:59] What legacy do we honor and grow seems to have been an underlying theme the last season or two and I'm glad it seems to be the prevailing tone of episode one it's really funny when I first met Elijah on the walking dead he was just

[00:51:13] like oh that's where he's from. Oh yeah I knew that. Thanks Alex. But now I see Sean and think to myself I wonder if he and Lydia have started a family. I hope he is more than a one episode character. I really like him as

[00:51:28] an actor and he's a great paternal figure for Kenny. Yeah I watched the eight minute sneak peek of the episode one yesterday and I initially wanted to start the series rewatch so I guess I know what I'm doing in between parts

[00:51:41] one and part two. One trick I learned in movies recently is when an actor isn't physically up to snuff you can cheat the audience experience by using slow motion with the added bonus it adds drama. Given how old our three main

[00:51:57] senseis are I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a whole lot of full speed action sequences from them in fact for all the buildup of the fights there wasn't much this episode. It was cool to see blue beetle

[00:52:08] versus meridian's own ninja zombie hunter but that fight was underwhelming makes sense as Sean pointed out they were pulling their punches. Still looking forward to more legitimate fight sequences. Yeah the actor who played Miguel

[00:52:21] was the blue beetle huh? Yeah he did that movie since you know in between that two years and I don't think it did all that well. Yeah I just remember seeing it on the marquee. Lastly I'm so happy Paul Walter Halzer man of the

[00:52:38] hour and increasing respected Thespian was able to come back even for one scene where he shows Johnny the way away from the way of the fist. I was worried he was getting too big for Cobra Kai once you play embarrassment in the Pixar

[00:52:53] universe. Wait let me say that again once you play embarrassment in Pixar universe the sky is the limit. That's it for me this week keep up the kick-ass work hey. Yeah maybe maybe that wasn't his only scene because he's too

[00:53:12] big. Yeah it might be hard to get him back huh. Okay and we got one call from good old Mike Caruso who I presume will be calling in every single episode hopefully here we go. Hey there Jason, Rima and Richard it's Mike from

[00:53:29] Cincinnati again back after nearly two years man Cobra Kai's off to a great start I'm always impressed with what the show manages to do and right from the start I just want to say I really think the score is underrated in this

[00:53:43] show like the music is always so good they have motifs for all the characters particularly Johnny I didn't catch it this episode on my first run through I've only seen the episode once but man you could really go back

[00:53:56] through the entire series and track Johnny's motif that the score is so underrated but right at the very beginning the soundtrack actually not the score but we get a roll with the changes by Aria Speedwagon and that

[00:54:09] was kind of cracking me up just some of the imagery I just think this show is funny and it wasn't necessarily funny but the whole song and the vibe they're putting out had me kind of chuckling very felt very 80s and I

[00:54:23] really thought this scene where where Daniel pulls up and he sees them chucking the Cobra Kai logo into the dumpster did that remind anybody else of the very first episode where he pulls up I think it's like the same

[00:54:38] shot of him like pulling up on the and you're looking at him from the side and he sees the Cobra Kai to Hojo for the first time maybe it was the second episode and he's like what it totally reminded me of that scene

[00:54:51] I thought they were kind of making a mod to that yeah that's a good like capper to that you see it coming up and you're like no and then you see the demise of it but as you were saying as he was saying that it also I don't

[00:55:04] know if this is related at all but the other dumpster scene that comes to mine is when Daniel throws his bike away in Karate Kid after they pushed the cliff you know the stupid bike a bike did let him down

[00:55:20] I thought it was really great to see all the kids getting along it was less cheesy than I thought it might be kind of because it sort of felt like we watched them grow through the series and I guess we did actually physically

[00:55:34] watch them grow because Jesus Pete's did you see Kenny he really sprouted up but it just felt it kind of felt earned I guess in my opinion and not as cheesy as I thought as I thought it would and I also kind of chuckled when I

[00:55:50] saw Stingray and I immediately thought of Jason because I know he's not Jason's favorite character and when he was giving the speech to Johnny and you know you're kind of not sure like oh crap is Johnny gonna reclaim

[00:56:04] the Cobra Kai name because I guess that is sort of the name of the series I could see that happening I was gonna really wonder what Jason thought if like Stingray was the person that inspired Johnny to reclaim that that name and

[00:56:20] claw his way back into the story that that would have been really funny also like when I was watching that scene every time it cut to Stingray the scenes would get like really grainy I don't know if that was just my setup or

[00:56:34] that was something they did intentionally with the editing maybe to because it was like a very 80s inspirational speech but that was that was a kind of weird did anybody else experience that and then you

[00:56:47] notice lastly I really man could I just couldn't help it smile when we saw the three sensei's sparring each other and you know they're all smiling and it was just a really great feel good moment also I want to say the

[00:57:01] kids were once again ahead of the adults again they're always smarter than the adults it seems like they got their shit together but then when we saw Johnny in the Miyagi Doki I audibly went let out a wow because that was something

[00:57:18] thought we'd see I don't know about you guys but yeah those are just kind of my quick rapid-fire thoughts about the episode hopefully I had something fresh for you guys to talk about maybe but yeah I'm still going to

[00:57:31] continue on with Julie Pierce and Dutch watch and also do you think this season we could finally get You're the Best by Joe Esposito because that feels like the one big song from the old movies that hasn't made its appearance yet so

[00:57:48] can't wait to hear your guys' thoughts and always love the podcast man Cobra Kai till I die baby show not that crease bullshit philosophy yeah good to hear from Mike that's such a good question about that song because I was

[00:58:06] kind of wondering as I was watching today I wonder what they've saved you know they've had to have saved some good moments for the end here and I now that you mentioned it I bet that's one of them yeah I hope so oh there's yeah

[00:58:20] well yeah there's so many they can choose from to that was a good point about seeing Johnny and the in the ghee in the Miyagi doh ghee for the first time I didn't realize it was just the color because it's white huh because he wore

[00:58:32] his red ghee all the time yeah but at the end like I said they are all wearing the white ghee and it just feel very unified and they kind of teased that Johnny as Mike was kind of saying was going to go off and start Cobra

[00:58:46] Kai again and be an enemy again and then they took a left turn and they were more unified than ever by the end of this yeah I just one thing I love about the series is how unexpected it is a lot of yeah cool yeah and moving forward

[00:59:01] I like the idea that maybe being unified like this and having a strong bond they're going to have an even bigger and better you know bad guy to fight it to fight this time which is my hope right yeah wobbling yeah like if you're

[00:59:16] that strong then we know the series going to have drama and so it's going to be even worse I feel like whatever it is yeah I hope nobody dies though I'd be sad yeah I don't I don't think anybody will just because the tone of

[00:59:38] the series I mean actually I'm thinking of the one Cobra Kai guy that died and then they zipped him up in the body bag oh right Tommy or something yeah they'll put him in the body bag guy
