[00:00:00] I'm going to need a gun.
[00:00:09] I thought you never asked.
[00:00:12] 9mm Pit Piper.
[00:00:14] How'd you get this?
[00:00:16] I know a guy who knows a guy who shot a guy.
[00:00:20] 21 round capacity magazine with a built-in compensator for virtually no muzzle flip, fiber optic
[00:00:26] front sight, ambidextrous savings.
[00:00:29] Flared magwell for faster reloads, 2 pound extreme trigger, and for those more how shall
[00:00:35] we say intimate encounters, this miker has ferocious f**king f**king f**ks.
[00:00:46] Hey everybody and welcome to our podcast.
[00:00:49] I'm Jonathan and I'm James and today we're talking about John Wick Chapter 4.
[00:00:56] So if you please ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Continental.
[00:01:00] Please join us in the lounge while we prepare your rooms.
[00:01:02] Take a seat by the fire and let us tell you tales of Baba Yaga.
[00:01:08] Its Showtime, Folks.
[00:01:10] Excellent and hello James good to be back on and today we're talking about something
[00:01:19] other than Star Wars.
[00:01:21] I know something close to my still beating heart.
[00:01:25] Yes James and I have been fans of the John Wick Cinema Universe for a long time
[00:01:32] and James actually had a lot of involvement with the cast and crew.
[00:01:37] As a professional photographer.
[00:01:40] We'll touch on that in a little bit but James let's kick off with your intro please.
[00:01:46] Yeah I mean first off I'd like to dedicate this to Lance Riddick.
[00:01:50] He plays Sharon and by all accounts he's a great actor and a lovely guy from people
[00:01:56] I know have worked with him.
[00:01:58] I mean I first came across him in the wire and then I was a massive fan of Fringe as well
[00:02:03] which he was awesome in and then you see him in Wick and he's just...
[00:02:08] He's a great guy and it's a sad loss.
[00:02:11] He leaves his wife and two kids behind and he'll be missed by many of us
[00:02:15] so we'll put this one out to Lance.
[00:02:18] Yeah absolutely.
[00:02:20] I know that Chad and Keanu have dedicated an awful lot of the press they've been doing
[00:02:25] to him as well so it's very sweet.
[00:02:27] And also if it's alright Jonathan I'd like to address...
[00:02:30] Just before you go on I just want to say and rightly so because his character
[00:02:35] is even as such a small part of the movie and the genre but it was such a classic
[00:02:42] character and had such presence and you always enjoyed the interactions when
[00:02:47] someone walked into the Continental with the concierge.
[00:02:51] His etiquette is amazing.
[00:02:53] This world of insanity and then he's checking in.
[00:02:59] He was incredible.
[00:03:00] The formality of it all is genius I think.
[00:03:03] Yeah and yeah I mean we can go on and on but is it in John Wick 2 or is it 3
[00:03:07] where he arms up and you actually see him in action is great.
[00:03:11] Yeah brilliant yeah exactly so serious your sad loss and he is a fine actor
[00:03:18] and one of the great characters from this movie series.
[00:03:23] If you don't mind I think we should address the 800 pound Kevlar plated guru
[00:03:27] in the room Jonathan.
[00:03:28] Yeah absolutely absolutely.
[00:03:30] So this film is entertainment right everyone is completely fantastical
[00:03:34] and plays like a gun opera all right.
[00:03:36] Yeah guns are a huge problem especially in the US but I personally believe
[00:03:42] since man could draw on cave walls he's always depicted warriors in art
[00:03:45] and these films are no different.
[00:03:47] So you know in the way these films are paced like you never linger on a death
[00:03:53] is never salacious go literally before a body hits the ground we've moved on
[00:03:58] like Chad moves at such a beletic pace that it becomes a dance it's a beautiful
[00:04:04] like warrior dance and I'll leave it there.
[00:04:08] I mean I think we just we just have to say something about it.
[00:04:11] Look I absolutely agree and I think it is very important to mention because
[00:04:17] it's just a sad and terrible thing the gun gun violence as you say especially in America
[00:04:22] but this is a story this is opera this is make believe but I think we can separate
[00:04:28] the real from the make believe and enjoy this for what it is is a fantastic piece of cinema.
[00:04:34] It's a it's comic book it's cartoon like in its performance and I think
[00:04:41] everyone who enjoys it understands that knows that so yeah exactly right and let's draw a line
[00:04:46] under that and then just have some fun.
[00:04:51] Okay well let's get going with our spoiler free intro to John Wick 4.
[00:04:59] Well what arrived at that point was James I went in to this knowing exactly what I was
[00:05:03] going to get and John Wick 4 delivers the film was ridiculously long but I found myself.
[00:05:11] You know you know they wanted it it was originally three hours 45 minutes they come an hour out of
[00:05:17] it I'm like what was that hour reloading literally reloading guns.
[00:05:21] The glorious reloading the clocking in at two hours and 45 minutes.
[00:05:26] But didn't it go fast?
[00:05:28] Yeah it did I just found myself marbling as you said at the the ballet of gunfire death and destruction
[00:05:35] as if I was watching Baryshnikov dance the nutcracker.
[00:05:39] They were great locations sumptuous sets fantastic characters but most of all
[00:05:44] an indestructible Keanu Reeves.
[00:05:48] God bless him yeah it was amazing I'm just going to say at this point I'm just going to call
[00:05:54] our director Chad because I'm going to butcher Stileski and I'm going to butcher his name and
[00:06:01] I'd hate for him to get old on me one day so I'm from now on I'm just lovingly calling him Chad
[00:06:06] from here on. Yeah our director Chad. Yes all right so would you go and see this right are we
[00:06:13] going to ask would you go and see it I mean like have you seen John Wick 1 2 and 3 of course
[00:06:17] you can go see 4 right? Yeah exactly right you know what you get.
[00:06:21] Straight out and this is what I've been found has been lacking at the cinema recently
[00:06:27] is these big films the last one for me was Top Gun which was fantastic went along to see Avatar
[00:06:36] what is it two I need two and that was interesting but this is a movie that is is indeed cinema worthy.
[00:06:45] Go out grab some friends get some popcorn sit down the movies and sit in the dark and treat
[00:06:51] yourself to a couple of hours of of John Wick glory. Yeah I mean some of the reviews have
[00:06:57] like it's already been hailed as the best action film in years another reviewer's an
[00:07:01] electrifying entertainer I mean like you said it's two hours 45 it passed in the blink of an
[00:07:07] eye for me yeah I was really surprised. It's no brainer I mean it's choreographed so well
[00:07:12] the locations as you mentioned get your own to crap of course oh by the way the movies are
[00:07:18] rated so I'm figuring the podcast is so I apologize in advance. I mean but the supporting cast is
[00:07:24] all still there Ian McShane Lawrence Fishburne amazing and we're not going to give anything
[00:07:28] much away here but I mean look this isn't a highbrow sort of tense thriller it's John Wick
[00:07:33] you know what you're going for have fun yeah laugh at the insanity and clearly the cast
[00:07:38] the crew and director really enjoyed making this and I'm going to give this to Jonathan
[00:07:44] I'm going to give this an almost full clip I'm giving this nine out of ten rounds that's my
[00:07:49] room yeah I would have put I would put this in at at eight and a half because there
[00:07:57] there were some length issues and some believability issues some giant
[00:08:02] believability I mean John Wick should have died 30 or 40 times but there was just enough
[00:08:08] believability to smile and move on however the department of suspension of disbelief as we
[00:08:15] like to call call it here look like it had just survived a cat five hurricane by the time
[00:08:22] but they also kept most of the physics so you know John Wick had to use full his full body
[00:08:29] and leverage to tumble people there was you know size difference between combatants mattered
[00:08:36] and but but you know we go for this because it is a bit video gamey and the gunplay is just awesome
[00:08:44] and you also forget I forgot anyway Keanu's like four uh 58 59 yeah 58 a young man barely in his prime
[00:08:57] barely in his prime but I mean it's and it's great in the room I mean we'll get into that later
[00:09:01] and stuff but I mean again it's amazing James if you're watching us on video which
[00:09:07] in one day we may actually post this to you YouTube is wearing a hat from the set
[00:09:12] James can you please describe I've got an ex communicator crew hat from John Wick through
[00:09:17] so a really good friend of mine is creative director designed all the posters for all the
[00:09:22] movies and which are awesome yes and he also did a lot of the Star Wars ones as well um but
[00:09:29] he's been trying to get me on the gig like on John Wick 2 and then 3 and it didn't happen
[00:09:33] so he brought me back from set a hat so all I all I got was a fucking hat but anyway whatever
[00:09:39] well at least you got a hat I'm not bitter I'm not bitter at all Brian anyway but yeah I mean
[00:09:46] I've been a huge fan like I said and I've tried to sort of connive and noodle my way into
[00:09:51] Lionsgate it's a couple of times like offering to my agent was like you can't offer to work for
[00:09:55] free James I was like a fucking camera John Wick film yeah exactly but anyway yeah you have worked with
[00:10:02] with Keanu and a couple of other members of the of the cast haven't you yeah I mean I
[00:10:08] very briefly with Keanu many years ago and he was calm quiet and the coolest guy again
[00:10:15] like I know a fair few people have worked with him and he's he's just awesome I mean
[00:10:21] I think the last time a friend of mine worked with him they were shooting in LA
[00:10:25] he rocked up on his motorbike on his own just came in just took his helmet off and just sat there
[00:10:31] and was like all right guys and which clearly doesn't need security well and Ian McShane
[00:10:39] you worked with as well oh yeah Ian's yeah Ian's also I've worked with Ian on all three seasons of
[00:10:46] American Gods so I sort of worked with him yeah that was that was a great and then fortunately I got
[00:10:51] to work with briefly with Lawrence Fishburn recently as well which was like pretty amazing
[00:10:56] and speaking of Ian McShane if you haven't seen Deadwood that is a very worthy series to check
[00:11:04] out if only for his delivery and his vocabulary yeah exactly he is a highlight it's yeah I know this
[00:11:11] is our rate about anyone to say say who's a signature line here you'll just have to watch and enjoy
[00:11:18] but so James did you think this was uh cinema worthy would you I do absolutely I mean here's
[00:11:25] here's the thing since COVID we've had and I've I've bored you with this but I I built a mini
[00:11:33] cinema in my basement during COVID because I had nothing else to do and there you couldn't go to
[00:11:37] the movies and stuff did many people yeah exactly so I mean so now when something comes out of the
[00:11:42] movies it has to be special to make me go yeah and also I will not go now unless I see in
[00:11:49] digital Dolby or in iMax and stuff and I saw this in digital Dolby and I swear my ears have
[00:11:56] only just stopped ringing it's like are we we're now past spoiler point are we no no no no this is
[00:12:04] still non-spoiler we'll have we'll give a spoiler alert when we go to that I won't go into certain
[00:12:08] things with the sound but I mean but yeah this is definitely cinema worthy I mean it's because
[00:12:11] it's a popcorn movie you want to sit there and I I was one of those sad people I went on my own
[00:12:17] and like Friday morning as did apparently a lot of blokes my age yeah and the guy next to me I've
[00:12:24] never met before my life and we're chuckling and laughing to each other by an hour into it by the
[00:12:28] ridiculousness of his heart and that's fun and film's like this it's like yeah it's um it's
[00:12:37] it's the big screen it's a sound but it's a group experience as well and you know yeah
[00:12:43] you watch a comedy at home and you might chuckle every now and then you go and watch a comedy in the
[00:12:47] theater and the role with laughter yeah it's very true but it's it's definitely cinema worthy and I
[00:12:53] believe it's clocked up ridiculous numbers in the first week so congratulations to them so yeah
[00:12:59] and as you said before to me I think the director has uh has committed Keanu to
[00:13:06] several more films without his permission yeah exactly I saw that on Instagram today like
[00:13:12] lines gate so yeah it's like um uh well you know again we're not into I mean I'm gonna spoil anything
[00:13:19] but yeah so I think there are going to do several more which I am all for yeah I mean there's
[00:13:24] there's lots of things planned I think I mean we can we'll talk about later when we get into the
[00:13:28] into the depth of this when we're when we're knee-deep in bodies we can talk about this
[00:13:32] further into the podcast because well look let's say that why don't we just move on and
[00:13:37] let's move into the spoiler section so you have been warmed if you have not seen John week four yet
[00:13:44] you're a fool go get yourself to the cinema with a friend and a bag of popcorn and go and watch it
[00:13:51] and we'll see you in a minute
[00:14:01] welcome back we are in the spoilers section now so uh we are spoilers from here on out
[00:14:07] so James what are your first thoughts on the film in the spoilers section it's funny because I mean I
[00:14:14] I mean I love the film from front to back and back to forth I thought it was phenomenal um and but a lot
[00:14:21] of my points I want to talk on are not specific things that happen in it but just the whole world
[00:14:26] and a little bit about I mean I'm sure a lot of people know this but I'm just going to bore
[00:14:29] people with a little bit of background on on our director Chad Staleski yeah let's let's get
[00:14:35] into it because it's important to give the behind the scenes people all the credit to you and and he
[00:14:40] was definitely the driver of the style of the of this film well I mean he I mean he first worked
[00:14:48] with Keanu on the first matrix film and apparently he read the project and he thought it's some
[00:14:53] small sci-fi thing and uh he basically turned up and he was a he was a stunt guy at the time
[00:14:57] so he became Keanu's stunt double right and then they worked all the way through the trilogy
[00:15:03] and then he also continued to work with him he was on Constantine and other films and stuff and
[00:15:08] and there's hundreds of interviews out of the pair of them at the moment but basically Chad describes
[00:15:12] Keanu as his big brother and he's kind of sweet his older brother there's a few years between him
[00:15:17] and then and so he moved up from being like his stunt double to stunt coordinator and then I
[00:15:21] don't know if you remember it but Keanu made the movie The Man of Tai Chi
[00:15:26] I don't remember that no yeah and then and so he asked Chad to come in and be his stunt coordinator
[00:15:32] on that so he did that and then um you know a few years later Keanu took the first wickscript
[00:15:38] to Chad and then the rest is history so um can we just talk about it a bit more? So he has uh uh
[00:15:45] directed all four has he? Yeah yeah yeah yeah and um but uh I just I just want to say something
[00:15:51] another bitter moment I have Jonathan about the pandemic if I can just express myself
[00:15:57] so literally three weeks before the pandemic kicked off I got commissioned to shoot Chad
[00:16:02] at his production company in LA at the and they even they did a video walkthrough they
[00:16:07] sent me videos of like the stunt area of where all the stunts are trained and done and they were
[00:16:12] like what do you need? I remember this actually yeah and we've done calls and we've worked
[00:16:17] all this out and I was like brilliant and then he was out of town for two weeks and then I wasn't in
[00:16:22] LA and then we finally locked a date in and then the week before that something happened in China
[00:16:31] and that was it and that and it never came back and I was like no the virus of unspecified
[00:16:37] origin yes exactly yeah maybe for John Wick seven or something who knows but you'll be interested
[00:16:46] in this Jonathan you'll like this one if you haven't already done done your googling so Chad
[00:16:51] is now slated for a ridiculous amount of films coming up and TV shows so he's doing the remake
[00:16:56] of Highlander with Henry Cavill. Oh excellent yeah he's also I think doing the Rainbow Six movie
[00:17:02] with uh with um uh Michael Jordan and but the best one for those not in the know the Rainbow
[00:17:09] Six is a Tom Clancy series and video game series so all those games out there I know you'd
[00:17:15] be excited for that. Well Jonathan and one for you especially Ghost of Toshima. Oh no way I didn't know
[00:17:23] they were making that into a film. That explains a lot when you see the amount of samurai working
[00:17:28] this film yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah look that game of Toshima was one of my favorite games
[00:17:34] and you can actually see a lot of similar styles it is. Jonathan actually sent me after playing
[00:17:39] that he sent me a book on learning strategy with samurai and a training samurai sword.
[00:17:44] Training the cat training with the katana yeah yeah I have a katana training manual
[00:17:52] hopefully that will come off but um but he's a yeah I've just cancelled my gym membership so
[00:17:56] I might just take up the katana training. Yeah let's do that so I did in the grass and your
[00:18:02] underpants for your katana it's going to be a good look mate. I'd you know anyway
[00:18:07] but yeah that's just a little bit background on to it I mean I think his work stands up now
[00:18:12] it's like one of the best action. Like his choreography and the pace of these films is just
[00:18:18] fantastic. I mean I know that a lot because I'm the editing and it's like but um but then
[00:18:24] saying that there's very sorry James saying that there's very little editing compared to
[00:18:30] say the born identity there's no shaky cam there's no quick cuts they're all kind of wide
[00:18:37] shots with the choreography set and trained for and so that you don't see all these quick cuts in it
[00:18:44] so it is a lot of the the the planning and the the the fight design and the choreography
[00:18:50] and I've actually saw some behind the scenes the footage on YouTube last night
[00:18:56] and it's amazing how much practice goes into it and how long the each fight scene is before
[00:19:05] they hit cut and Keanu's doing all of it you know. Yeah the training that goes into it I mean
[00:19:12] we've all we've all watched those YouTube videos of Keanu doing his gun training right?
[00:19:16] Yeah if anyone hasn't and if you haven't jumped on yeah it's I mean the guy is a there's a company
[00:19:22] called Tarantactical there's a guy Tarant butler who I believe he's ex Mossad isn't he? I think
[00:19:28] Israeli army I believe and he trained Keanu and Michelle Rodriguez and I think Halle Berry for
[00:19:37] John Wick 3. Halle Berry yeah but they post their videos and like they do live round run-throughs
[00:19:44] they like start the counter and then Keanu goes in with live rounds into the into the range
[00:19:50] and he's switching from shotgun to pistol to automatic rifle and it's yeah he's got a rifle
[00:19:57] slung by his side carrying a pistol he has to do the reload you're hiding behind things popping out
[00:20:02] and shooting moving on to the next target it's a joy to watch and when you watch that and then
[00:20:08] you watch this film you it makes it all the more satisfying yeah yeah exactly because it looks
[00:20:14] real as well as unreal as it is you need that kind of reality to ground it you know that kind
[00:20:22] of training to ground such unrealistic yeah I love it's really realistic if I could do a level of
[00:20:33] call of duty like that I would be very happy yes very good um but yeah anyway that's just hands
[00:20:41] like praise be to Chad awesome work awesome work and Jonathan you what's your opening
[00:20:49] I'm going to let you roll through the because all of my everything I've got here is just
[00:20:55] like like drooling over certain things there's only a couple of times that I'll go into scene so if you
[00:21:01] want to like drive the pace and the plot and talk yeah we're kind of doing our Star Wars structure
[00:21:07] where we we go from location to location and then fold in our points into it but
[00:21:15] but it may be controversial James but just but as a man I love to see highly trained warriors at
[00:21:20] their peak of their skills go at it and from gladiator to Star Wars to Game of Thrones to
[00:21:27] John Wick it's not the violence but the skill and the bravery of the protagonist I love to see
[00:21:33] and yes it does glorify mep weapons and it and it makes the guns look very cool but
[00:21:40] weapons have looked cool since a caveman sharpened a stick I think so I do like to revel in the glory
[00:21:48] of of the fighting and the weapons and the design of all that but let's let's start well
[00:21:56] well I hadn't planned on this but I would like to let's open with a cold open of Kiana one horse
[00:22:03] horseback mowing down on the cup a couple of my forebears in the deserts of of Arabia yeah I mean
[00:22:10] I have to say if we're gonna and I've drawn and I've already like just going on and this how good
[00:22:18] this is I wasn't convinced with this this bit no the elder is now out well not even that the elder
[00:22:25] is out in the desert he's got three guys shitting themselves riding away from Kyado
[00:22:31] and I guess he thought he felt that he was just protected by you know the yeah the table I suppose
[00:22:38] and the honor of everyone yeah yeah and it's almost like a nuclear weapon thing you know
[00:22:43] mutually short destruction if he takes him out then surely you were dead but it was glorious to
[00:22:48] see John Wick on horseback with a pistol and in the in the deserts of the Middle East but
[00:22:54] that was a quick cold opening but should we just go now you know yeah well I have one thing in common
[00:23:03] with John Wick yes and I didn't really I didn't think I'd see yeah and I love the fact that
[00:23:12] you know Keanu's gone there John Wick has gone back simply to go and get his wedding ring that's
[00:23:18] really why he's gone there and you know he's not gonna get the finger back but yeah what John's
[00:23:23] and I love about is during a couple of years ago I managed to sever a finger like during some
[00:23:30] home DIY so it's like yeah I don't know if it's done. Sliced it completely off
[00:23:38] list James has one less finger but he can still hold a camera and circle the saw by the
[00:23:44] sound of things so he's all good. Anyway but yeah the desert thing was I don't know man that was
[00:23:54] it was a nice little palette cleanser yeah I just found it a little disjointy because we
[00:23:59] start with him punching the board in the basement yeah the basement barry and then
[00:24:06] Lawrence Fishburne says are you ready John and he's like yeah and it's the classic like
[00:24:11] people have been asking me at my back I guess I am it's like you know it's a retort you know
[00:24:15] that kind of vibe again and then all of a sudden we're out in the desert I'm like yeah all right
[00:24:20] yeah um I do think that this series I mean I love them and I and my next point I'll get to later
[00:24:26] is like the world of Wick but I feel like any of these these really popular and successful
[00:24:34] franchises they have to be careful because all of a sudden they have money and it's like oh we
[00:24:39] can go anywhere in the world yeah like the first one is in New York and it's rainy and it's gritty
[00:24:44] and it's brilliant and now you know in three we're in Casablanca and now you know the opening
[00:24:50] seconds in four and blink and we're in the desert and I'm like yeah is it anyway but yes I just
[00:24:58] think it was just some pure travel travel for the team and a nice sunshine and you know
[00:25:09] and a beautiful Lawrence of Arabia style this Vista as well but it was a quick quick opener
[00:25:16] and we start off in Osaka at the Osaka Continental and we see Shimizu played by Hiroyuki
[00:25:24] Hiroyuki Senada
[00:25:26] Hiroyuki Senada thank you James um and he was in the last samurai 47 Ronin amongst many other
[00:25:34] things like it's phenomenal again that's the casting is just bang on with him yeah the minute you
[00:25:40] see him it's like we've authenticated like we know what we're getting yeah exactly right
[00:25:47] it's just waiting for him to arm up and draw that sword oh yeah but that's that's that's what I love
[00:25:54] about this is like when they run for their weapons and it's all bows like shurikens and knives
[00:26:02] and swords and yes look let's just jump into our first battle sink because that's why we're here
[00:26:08] there was a little bit of chatting on the rooftop blah blah blah blah when the door
[00:26:11] comes up blah blah blah you brought death on our family yes and a bit of the door comes up
[00:26:19] and says the table have arrived Shimizu is walking through he goes to his minions in Japanese and
[00:26:28] says guests have arrived please prepare to welcome them and then we cut to a fantastic gearing upscene
[00:26:35] racks of katanas and bows and arrows and guns and as you say the fighting stars and then we're
[00:26:43] into the the standoff in the lobby yeah I mean that that standoff is is brilliant and and I have
[00:26:50] to say I love these films and it's like why is it always turning into a hard claw nightclub
[00:26:56] when there's a fight sitting inside it's brilliant and like the lights go green and you see the silhouettes
[00:27:03] of all of the Osaka like guys up above and then they they rain arrows down and and I love the fact
[00:27:11] that now everyone has the Kevlar suits on it's ridiculous so like and the big bad guy like blocks
[00:27:17] like the first arrow with literally with his hand yeah and because his suit is now Kevlar
[00:27:23] we've all got the the suit up before we move on for for and I know we get to have a nice
[00:27:30] demonstration of that people might be coming straight into John Wick 4 not seeing the previous
[00:27:35] ones blasphemy explain blasphemy I agree but do you want to explain his Kevlar suit and why
[00:27:42] he can get shot a million times yes it's a great sort of like plot hole filler this one
[00:27:47] isn't it yeah so yeah so if you every I guess every city has like all of these people who work
[00:27:55] under the table and who work for the the organization shall we call it and stuff and the tailors
[00:28:02] yeah and the table the table is basically an overarching organization of shadowy figures
[00:28:08] that are running the world yeah exactly exactly so yeah every mob boss answers to the table
[00:28:15] the table is like the united nations of bad motherfuckers they just sit up there and that's
[00:28:21] you know you know that everyone serves and again we're boring people who know all the films but
[00:28:25] if you haven't you serve under the table for the table and that's and it's run it's a it's
[00:28:31] a council of 12 head of each family around the world sits on the table but again in the cities
[00:28:38] there's all these these people who work for this organization and the tailors are exquisite
[00:28:43] appropriate for all formal occasions weddings funerals high table do as an Englishman this is
[00:28:48] I'm probably gonna get shot for this but it's why I like wick more than bond at times
[00:28:55] it's like he get like Kevlar goes to get his suit and like and he looks fucking great in this
[00:29:01] but as they put as they're measuring the suit they're like oh and uh Kevlar sir and it's between
[00:29:07] the lining and the main part of the suit there is this fine flexible Kevlar which means
[00:29:12] conveniently as long as Kevlar keeps his jacket on he can take 150 rounds in a scene and does usually
[00:29:20] a bit of like tailoring James oh yeah we're back to yes back to Andor the like tailoring
[00:29:25] so yeah so so basically but by the time we get to John Wick 4 it seems that everyone has been to
[00:29:29] the same tailor because now everyone's been to the same tailor and then can we just say about
[00:29:34] like while we're talking about bulletproofness yeah how cool are the stormtrooper style
[00:29:41] samurai shock troopers in this I was going to get that to that go on son take it take it because as a
[00:29:47] as the fight kind of depletes all of the the tables the henchmen except for Chilly who was played
[00:29:55] by Marco Zeror who's a Chilean martial artist but I love him with the with the Spanish and
[00:30:03] he's just a pure alpha size and strength and it's a great counterpoint to Kevlar who is
[00:30:11] well to John Wick who is quite slender but this guy's all muscles and as soon as he's
[00:30:17] run out of minions they said oh right we're done here prepare to meet your end he goes one second
[00:30:24] with a snap of a finger all the as I like to call them the turtle warriors that come out in head
[00:30:30] to toe Kevlar would not even a minuscule amount of gaps between them and they're basically
[00:30:38] bulletproof soldiers which and I and I love that I mean we we have this similar but without the
[00:30:45] samurai face marks towards the end of John Wick 3 you remember they had to arm up with really heavy
[00:30:51] rounds put them down but I love the way that you watch John Wick sort of and he's firing
[00:30:58] round upon round at their face because he's not going yeah well it's not it's not
[00:31:02] he's not killing them he's literally so much good cushion through the they're disorientated
[00:31:07] and then the final kill like shots are pretty he goes in and it's under the armor if you watch
[00:31:12] he goes in lift an arm and he's in the armpit bang yeah exactly we'll slip a blade between the the
[00:31:19] gaps in the armor exactly gaps in the armor and then it's under the chin and the chin strap
[00:31:23] of that and then if we watch Akira we watch like her you know Shimazu's daughter like her moves
[00:31:30] with the sword as well she does the same she just slices and dices it in any gap in armor so
[00:31:36] and I loved her because she wasn't overpowered and she wasn't throwing 300 pound men over her
[00:31:42] shoulders she fought with you know with leverage and quickness and speed and balance and one of
[00:31:48] my favorite scenes of Akira is that a reference to Street Fighter James for Hunt's
[00:31:54] Akira being named Akira the daughter no Akira is like the Japanese manga
[00:32:01] that's what she is the manga character as well well yeah I mean it's the but I don't think so I
[00:32:05] think it's all about Akira is a pretty uh it's common name isn't it common name yeah we apologize to
[00:32:12] yeah but um but yeah and her armor is is great as well like when she she starts off and she's in
[00:32:18] her kimono or her workout yeah and then she looks at Keanu and she's like fuck this and she
[00:32:25] takes off that and she's like beautiful you know see the pieces of like armor so she can move and
[00:32:32] she's so fast and so flexible um no she's great I think this is her first film as well the actress
[00:32:39] who plays yeah Rina Sawayama I think she might be a singer as well if I remember yes because she's
[00:32:46] ah we can get to the post on my google credit scene I'm leaping way ahead here oh my god I have to
[00:32:52] wait for ages for that I know yeah I'm glad to know about it and then and I'll slide into it anyway
[00:32:57] but the song at the end she sings that as well so the closing music and the title of that song
[00:33:02] anyway we'll get to all of that in about four and a half hours yeah but my favorite moment of
[00:33:08] Akira's was when she's taking on that massive guy and uh she just stabs him a couple of times
[00:33:14] and he's climbing up the stairs to get a body with knives yeah phenomenal step after step
[00:33:20] you know killing with the thousand stabs so he's like climbing the stairs and she's climbing him
[00:33:25] with the knives as if she was she's climbing climbing and I I swore I thought that was awesome
[00:33:30] pretty special can I can I just do a shout out to the Sumos in Kevlar Kamonas
[00:33:35] ah that's what I was about to say now amazing those guys fucking hell yeah they just blocked
[00:33:42] the hallway with their size and and then you know even they could just easily absorb a million
[00:33:48] great to see kind of Sumos in inaction in you know not being in their underwear on
[00:33:55] on a round thing I don't know any Sumos do I okay good I'm safe yeah so after we see the Sumos
[00:34:01] right and they do that and then it's brilliant then the guys you see Kane just slurping around
[00:34:07] his noodles in the shower yes and then I can't remember somebody like he do your job and he's
[00:34:13] God and then he comes out and let's let's just let's take a moment here like
[00:34:19] and let's talk about Donnie Yen I mean now Donnie Yen was brilliant dude I mean what is it the
[00:34:26] forces and we all know him Star Wars fans from Rogue One do the quote do the quote I am one with
[00:34:30] the force the force is with me I am one with the force the force is with me I mean and I was
[00:34:35] confused because I was like hold on is Donnie Yen actually blind that's what I was looking up
[00:34:40] and I was like he's not and I was like he's playing blind characters
[00:34:46] but I mean he's phenomenal and let's we'll just jump back to how we're introduced to him because
[00:34:51] he's brought in front of the and we haven't even talked about the marquee of you know the bad guys
[00:34:56] here as well we need to we need to use a bit of things yes so for some reason I just wanted to
[00:35:01] go straight into the yeah he's going to get into the violence and stuff so Donnie Yen is back
[00:35:07] and he's blind again and I'm how cool is it I mean I just the part where he's he's moving around
[00:35:13] and he's putting and I'm like he picks out these things out of his bag and oh my god he's got he's
[00:35:17] got C4 explosives this is amazing amazing and he places them down the kitchen he's like oh my
[00:35:22] god he's going to blow the crap out of them right and they are like cheap sort of like Home Depot
[00:35:27] 999 like doorbell sensors and the minute he's ding he knows where his target's on him
[00:35:34] popping people and it's like that's what I started laughing yeah that's yeah that was a
[00:35:39] laugh out loud moment and I that that is brilliant like gun comedy like that was just a really
[00:35:47] really cool thing um but I thought it was interesting when we when we went to uh
[00:35:53] Donnie Yen that it was a change of perspective of who we were pulling for in the fights because
[00:35:59] Donnie Yen is opposed well Kane is opposed to John Wick but I found myself yeah yeah forced to be
[00:36:07] because his his family's being held for ransom but I found myself going for him even though he's going
[00:36:14] after John Wick I did I mean here's my thing it's like maybe I'm just getting old John I don't know
[00:36:20] but like I just wanted them to just have a chat and go can't we all just get along and
[00:36:25] like just go after the bad guy because like Donnie Yen's character Kane is great and then
[00:36:30] and we also get the amazing breakout performance from Shamir Anderson as the tracker or nobody
[00:36:35] as he's the other guy yeah like these these three are phenomenal and it's like you wouldn't stand a
[00:36:41] chance if they were all come on team up but again it's it's nicely written how that you know
[00:36:48] it works out in the end but that was the interesting thing how you kept swinging
[00:36:52] from protagonist to protagonist yeah you know and you also have to remember that it essentially
[00:36:57] John Wick is an anti-hero really I mean yeah let's face it he's like a back man he's like you know
[00:37:02] he's the babi yaga he's the boogeyman we call him Baba Yaga the boogeyman well John wasn't exactly
[00:37:12] the boogeyman he was the one you said to kill the fucking boogeyman when they hear John Wick's
[00:37:19] name it is instant laxative for yeah well even even when Kane is put in front of the marquee
[00:37:27] and like and basically the high table give him I love it they give him the name and it's in Braille
[00:37:32] and as he runs his fingers across it you know obviously we get the subtitles on screen and
[00:37:36] it reads wick and he just stops he doesn't even need to read the words and he and he's
[00:37:42] forced to take the job because they will kill his daughter yeah if he doesn't and
[00:37:49] and so and in this scene we and in our excitement we are jumping all over the place but we must bring
[00:37:56] up the marquee who was introduced as all great villains by eating or drinking something and
[00:38:02] this time the meal of choice was a super sweet espresso oh yes as he ah yes is the ball again we
[00:38:11] jump in even further ahead because we were introduced to the harbinger clancing around oh my god the
[00:38:17] kurgan from from Highlander ah yeah yeah but and that how and then how big is that this the
[00:38:27] egg timer which you call it yeah the sound of time I love that and he puts on table and so yes
[00:38:32] we're introduced to the marquee and like and and Winston and Sharon have been summoned in front of
[00:38:38] him and you're watching the sands drift down and this arrogant french fuck is like just stirring
[00:38:45] the sugar slowly grinding the china and Bill Skarsgard he's just menacing but I love how
[00:38:53] Ian McChain is kind of like rolling his eyes at the all the performance of it he's just like come on
[00:38:58] just get on with it tell me what you tell me what we're going to do what we're going to do um and
[00:39:03] that and that makes what happens uh even more kind of oh I just I'm just a very sad moment yeah exactly
[00:39:12] when Sharon is is shot dead and so obviously we left too early I was hoping that we'd see him throughout
[00:39:23] more of the film because he is such a great character but I guess to prove his point to
[00:39:28] he does shoot the concierge and then once then we turn to the window and what sadly do we see
[00:39:37] James we see yes the destruction of the continental the new york continental is raised to the ground
[00:39:45] so also we think I mean if you watch that explosion it does look like but then later on
[00:39:50] I thought it was a controlled demolition the explosion where the building but collapsed pretty
[00:39:55] impressive right but then but later on you go and on set they're like they're out they're outside
[00:40:00] it and it's the shell of it when they see Lawrence Fishburne and um any McChain there but anyway
[00:40:06] we're nitpicking there aren't we so yeah so we're getting all over the place we are sorry
[00:40:10] everyone we're right so we have established our big band we have established the motivations for
[00:40:16] all our protagonists which I think is the great great thing of a wick film is like all right it's
[00:40:22] not like oh double triple cross this that you know what you're getting into it's like all right
[00:40:27] basically this person has double crossed John Wick or killed his dog or smashed his car and we must
[00:40:33] remind ourselves that all this began because of a puppy killed a puppy and stole his car
[00:40:40] yeah it was just a fucking car just a fucking dog just a dog
[00:40:47] so let there be a lesson to you all so yes um yeah he's like
[00:40:55] it but let's just say escalated a little bit yeah is but that yeah as as many times the
[00:41:01] in McChain sort of Winston says from when will it end and it's like and I and usually wicks
[00:41:07] retort is when everyone's dead and it's like yeah you can't kill everybody getting back to Osaka
[00:41:15] the Osaka continental and we we left a mid fight where uh Kane was shooting people thanks to the
[00:41:23] doorbell sensors doorbell sensors which I thought was a brilliant moment but this scene went on
[00:41:29] and on and on but I loved the ballet of it and the interesting thing to go going back to
[00:41:35] to Shimazu was when he was on on the roof and like he brought up the theme of there are some
[00:41:41] things that are more important than business or indeed life itself and that's loyalty to his friend
[00:41:48] yeah and then when when his daughter says what are you doing here he says please don't
[00:41:52] presume to judge someone that I've known longer than you've been alive you know and it's a
[00:41:58] lesson to kids that their parents have lived the life and they have things that are beyond them and
[00:42:04] obviously his relationship with John Wick was very very important I remember a time when you
[00:42:10] understood the meaning of brotherhood enough it's I mean overarching sort of theme I think with a lot
[00:42:17] of the characters this is consequence for everything you've done in this life and what's gone on and
[00:42:21] stuff and that's like that's it and you you pay the price all the way up to the final final
[00:42:27] scene really so but we are jumping around but we've even not even talked about the nun
[00:42:32] truckers Jonathan ah well there's another scene during this fight and when you have a 35 minute
[00:42:38] fight scene there are bits and pieces all over the place but yeah they're not as all over the
[00:42:44] places we are sorry we'll tighten this up I promise because that one of your points are
[00:42:50] the nun trucks no I'm just I'm just pointing I literally my as I mentioned a lot of things I
[00:42:56] wanted to talk about are not specific like points it's more like scenarios and characters
[00:43:02] and theories and stuff so it's just phenomenal the nun truck work as well it's just comedic in
[00:43:07] places it's brilliant yeah and I think that's a point point of nun trucks almost the you know going
[00:43:13] back to Bruce Lee and his there's every and I don't know if you've ever seen it it's him playing
[00:43:20] ping pong with the nun trucks yeah I love but no I just love like through this and there's one
[00:43:30] of the bad guys I think he's down his knees and and like wick has literally teased him up and it's
[00:43:35] like he's going for a run and he's just like double handed and like just wallop and it's like
[00:43:42] yeah he almost called the shot didn't he yeah he's bleaches over there but wallop but never did
[00:43:50] nun trucks look more lethal you know and I love the bit he's when he's not using them he's
[00:43:55] got wrapped around his neck like a towel at least while he's reloading guns yeah exactly and it's
[00:44:01] just such beautiful choreography again this that we're going back to this idea that there has been
[00:44:07] a ballet and an opera and just the choreography with the nun trucks with genius and look there are
[00:44:13] too many kills to even to to even mention well that's it I mean that's the thing about this
[00:44:18] we have been rambling on about this for ages and excited and it's great and exciting and it's not
[00:44:26] but when and we're not discussing actual kills it's just what's going on I think that's the joy
[00:44:30] of a movie it's the style of it it's like it's not all right yeah he oh do you see where he
[00:44:34] blew his head off I did that it's not that it's like how they moved through the room how they
[00:44:38] did this how they reloaded that how he took this gun how he took this weapon how he blocked
[00:44:42] that and it's this constant pace this constant dance and that's what makes the wick world amazing
[00:44:48] yeah but it is but they what I do love is the the variety of head shots that they do do
[00:44:55] and various finishes and even he even does a lot of mercy killing as well which I
[00:45:00] of which I find very satisfying I have to say one of the best ones that I think is the
[00:45:04] he's in a an armed combat fight with one of the guys on the roof and Akira fires a bow
[00:45:10] and pins the guy's leg to a wall yeah and then somebody fit and then he finishes with
[00:45:14] him and literally the guy slumps but his legs pinned to the wall by the arrow it's just like
[00:45:20] brilliant it's just when you've seen it you think you've seen it all in action movies
[00:45:24] the speaking of style one of the highlights for me was when they went to the final battle
[00:45:34] between Cain and shimazua the katana battle yes and he's telling him to just go just go and
[00:45:41] we go back to that theme of some things are more important than than life even and that's his friendship
[00:45:47] with john wick don't insult my gift to you I also think he feared for his daughter's life and
[00:45:52] he thought if he couldn't stop Cain then maybe Cain would go for Akira yeah absolutely and
[00:45:59] he had to try there and then and again it's these characters are great because Cain didn't want
[00:46:05] to kill him we don't have to end this with blood he didn't you know he didn't want that I mean he's
[00:46:11] the most like arrogant reluctant assassin you've ever seen from the minute he's forced on this job
[00:46:17] it's like oh I don't really want to have to kill John Wick or any of my other friends but I'm
[00:46:22] gonna have to yeah and and they could have just drawn guns but they they drew katanas and it was a
[00:46:29] beautifully set a beautiful set piece of a a katana duel you can tell they know what they're doing
[00:46:37] because both of them had their feet firmly planted on the floor and it is and from from our book of
[00:46:43] katanas every refer back to Jonathan's book on training with a katana they recommend that
[00:46:49] the feet do not leave the ground but you slide and shuffle forward and you notice they're both
[00:46:55] shuttling and rarely having only one foot connected to the ground and Shimazu was attacking from the
[00:47:02] draw from his scabbard and Cain was counter attacking and it was just a glorious glorious
[00:47:08] katana battle and in the end the stabs that Shimazu took not once but twice the finishing
[00:47:17] moves and it was indeed a good death it was an honorable death an honorable death yeah his daughter
[00:47:23] didn't think so but no very good at least have a 35 minute fight scene and that's just let's just
[00:47:31] start off and Christ it's only taking us 50 minutes to get to the first fight scene we're
[00:47:35] going to be here all night but okay let's let's move on yeah I mean I just wanted to just
[00:47:40] pull out a minute just pull back and I just want to say like let's talk about the wick world
[00:47:46] and like we're living stuff and so like I mean I was all in for like scene one act one like at the
[00:47:53] beginning like with that SUV battered trundles to a stop and he's loading docking jersey Keanu gets out
[00:48:00] bleeding in his suit and he's watching his dead wife on his bloodstained phone and the music
[00:48:07] starts to build by the way I love fucking John Wick I go running to the John Wick soundtrack
[00:48:13] but it's great and I just and he's you know I've loved Keanu since like point break and
[00:48:17] you know I've forgiven him even for some of the less awesome performances that we've put out there
[00:48:21] but you there's nothing to forgive about wick I mean fuck that man I mean like John and his New
[00:48:27] York is on a par I think with Nolan's Gotham and I think that yeah you know that might upset a
[00:48:31] few people but it's the depth I love it's like I mean look at you have the bow re you have
[00:48:36] these homeless and if you've lived in New Yorker you understand this it's like everyone in New
[00:48:41] York tries to ignore the homeless I mean you always avert your eyes from stuff and you know
[00:48:46] Lawrence Fisherman talks about this in three or think it's right anyway but it's a perfect way
[00:48:51] to move unnoticed and then you have the cab drivers everyone's in on it the cab drivers are
[00:48:55] shuttling the coins around and the drugs and the weapons they're the couriers and then we
[00:49:00] obviously have the doctors and we you know who will patch people up for one gold coin and
[00:49:04] then you have the guys who make the suits I think it's just a it's just so well like art directed
[00:49:11] and thought through the layers of the city and it's and it's I just love the idea that everybody
[00:49:16] in the service industry in New York is working under the table and you just wouldn't fuck with
[00:49:21] any of them really would you I'd like to make a dinner reservation for 12 but my absolute favorite
[00:49:27] is the accountants like the the women who work in the the accountants the exchange room it's like
[00:49:36] in 1950s telephone exchange straightly exactly right they're all like in their 50s get up but
[00:49:42] they're tattered up to the nines and you know and the telephone directory is old analog
[00:49:47] they're plugging in yeah well I can't be traced well exactly and I love the fact that it's all
[00:49:52] 80 so they're using Commodore 64 keyboards right although they've updated them in John Wick 4 I
[00:49:58] believe they're Amiga keyboards now or early Apple ones but anyway but it was great to see it in the
[00:50:03] Eiffel Tower that that was situated in there at any point on the Eiffel Tower isn't it yeah and
[00:50:08] and I just yeah just a little silly fun there but I mean just the way that all is I mean
[00:50:14] and of course the Continental like these network of like hotels and the safe haven with that
[00:50:20] I think actually the New York one I believe well I think I actually know because I've spent time at
[00:50:26] the Continental John as we know but I think it's actually filmed in the British consulate or British
[00:50:34] embassy in Budapest oh well yeah I think that's the interior that's used for the last
[00:50:40] interesting yeah I mean but the opulence and the grandeur and the formality and that's it
[00:50:46] and it's yeah the formality and it's all this elegance yeah like oh the Somalia is in and the
[00:50:51] Somalia is the gunsmith and and it's just I don't know I just think that again they've had so much
[00:50:58] fun building this world and yeah it's like an onion there's layer upon layer upon layer
[00:51:04] and it it just makes it and in every film it just has something new to it and it's just
[00:51:09] like great and just love it so but yeah that was I just wanted to just pass on my love for the actual
[00:51:17] world building which is the world building is so important in this otherwise it'd just be a
[00:51:24] another gun movie but it ends structure and depth and and it allows it to have a four film
[00:51:32] oh and the rest yeah exactly yeah we'll there yeah there's gonna be spin offs and sequels and
[00:51:39] prequel spin offs side stories there's an interesting sort of range of stuff that's
[00:51:46] going to come out of this so yeah and it's and they've and they've built as we said we've built
[00:51:51] a great world to expand from so yeah and and I just love the graphic novel feel of this
[00:52:00] the old school graphic novel style with big colors and it's all strong and dramatic and
[00:52:06] very monochromatic with its coloring and there's lots of silhouettes as you were saying
[00:52:11] before in you know every frames are painting and there's sumptuous settings and operatic feel
[00:52:17] and the characters are so over the top which will lead us on well I am going to skip the
[00:52:26] the the Belarusians and go straight to Berlin and I am Klaus and that was such a genius segue
[00:52:38] wasn't it the iron clouds I am I mean that is a reference to group right because he says I am
[00:52:46] I am Klaus right yeah but then I'll so uh say that that he left he just turned and walked out
[00:52:53] yeah I mean the huge what's his name killer the huge german guy is phenomenal as well yeah
[00:52:58] it's brilliant yeah that's that's him his Scott Axton played a killer hark and he is the
[00:53:04] head of the German table and he had this amazing laugh and as they're sitting there
[00:53:10] but at the card table I really didn't know how that was going to turn out
[00:53:19] well we did Jonathan everyone's gonna get killed but you know it's come on
[00:53:25] yeah but uh but when he sliced his neck with the uh with the card I thought that was hilarious
[00:53:31] yeah I mean because everyone makes the you know everyone refers back to the pencil don't they
[00:53:36] and stuff yeah I once saw a killer three man in a bar with a bender then and all that and then he
[00:53:50] takes him out with you know with the with the card just like paper cups the throat brilliant
[00:53:56] but what I loved about you know this character killer is this was a real street fighter
[00:54:02] like scene for me like the video because you've got this guy like Scott Atkins is huge man
[00:54:07] but the speed he moves is phenomenal and I'm not sure what's in that like Asmar inhaler
[00:54:13] but he's his goal played an asmar inhaler yeah and he takes that and he's like but he's like that
[00:54:19] that's what I love because you think you know this guy is sat behind the table and he's
[00:54:23] like the Bloatfeld he's like the big evil guy and so but no he's like but he's more king
[00:54:28] pin isn't he brutal yeah he's yeah exactly he's exactly that he is kingpin he's amazing
[00:54:33] and I'm just going to point out that this is another classic wick let's have a hardcore rave
[00:54:39] and a fucking big fight in the middle and can I just can someone answer this how many how many
[00:54:45] innocent bystanders have been taken out because if you've seen the way they shoot in these crowds
[00:54:49] it's like yeah no I know yeah never do we see I mean this you know these are very accurate
[00:54:55] clearly the very accurate exactly but I love how everyone just ignores them most of the time
[00:55:01] well yeah that's yeah yeah that's someone's hacking someone to death with an axe in the
[00:55:05] middle of the dance floor and and only occasionally do some people notice them but if you've ever
[00:55:10] been to a Berlin nightclub then you won't be surprised will you be surprised I think I don't
[00:55:15] know if it's this one in one of the earlier films but like the first person who gets killed
[00:55:18] I think is on stage and the crowd just thinks it's part of a performance I think it's actually
[00:55:23] Rome it's in two it's in the Rome thing isn't it and like and they think yeah
[00:55:27] they think this is all the part of the performance it's just looks like looking at them as if they're
[00:55:31] all insane I know but I mean this yeah this was a great fight I mean it had everything it had
[00:55:36] bang in sort of like Skrillex style music he had strobes going he had waterfall effects
[00:55:42] inside a club and fantastic and it's almost your Star Wars sort of dream Jonathan they were
[00:55:47] almost sort of like walkways without you know no way as well and that was one of my laugh out
[00:55:55] moments was when he when John Wick fell off the balcony and just hit that out cropping yeah I mean
[00:56:02] I know I know we've got Kevlar in the suits but is there is there shock proofing as well
[00:56:08] yeah definitely dead there for the 15th time I mean how many times have been knocked down by a car
[00:56:13] I'm like yeah exactly oh he's immune to car crashes yes but then we have a nice scene with a tracker
[00:56:21] in this one can we just talk about trackers name yeah for a minute yeah that's yes so hold on so like
[00:56:28] he when asked what his name is he doesn't say track he says I'm nobody so remember the movie came
[00:56:34] out like two years ago called Nobody with Bill Odenkirk like who plays oh I'm nobody I'm the guy
[00:56:41] they come in at the end he's basically he is John Wick so and it turns out that that film was written
[00:56:47] and produced by guys from the Wick world as well so I thought it was kind of amusing when tracker
[00:56:53] references and said his name is nobody I'm like sounds familiar anyway but I mean yeah another
[00:57:00] great character I mean yeah Mr. Nobody played by Shamir Shamir Anderson and he's never without
[00:57:08] his dog which is interesting yeah yeah you knew it wasn't long before that dog was going to rip
[00:57:15] somebody's throat out I mean he looked very I mean I'm sure he's related to Halle Berry's ones from three
[00:57:21] I think pretty sure but he's a great character and I love the fact he's a tracker and he has this
[00:57:26] old school notebook with all his sketches he's like Indiana Jones with his notebooks he's like
[00:57:31] oh well this symbol means this in Berlin and this is that and I think you just don't want to
[00:57:36] ever hear him you're like nuts oh yeah yeah gun nuts that's it um but what's great about him is
[00:57:46] it's another example of motivation so like you have you have Kane who is motivated to save his daughter
[00:57:55] you have John Wick is just motivated to just kill every motherfucker left there is to stop the
[00:57:59] table and then but you have this new character come in like Shamir Anderson's character like
[00:58:04] the tracker whose motivation at the beginning is money yeah and he he literally keep tries to
[00:58:11] keep Wick alive until the numbers clock up enough because he's really interesting because yeah
[00:58:17] because he's got in his sketchbook or something he's got I think it's he needs 43 million to buy
[00:58:22] the house he wants or something right like to his dream dream retirement thing so he wants the
[00:58:27] numbers up enough um and then Kane when the offer comes to serve under the table Kane warns him like
[00:58:37] basically don't do it you'll never get out or whatever he says yeah right and uh and that's
[00:58:43] yeah and then there's that realization that he's he you know greed has now caused him a world of
[00:58:49] pain so yeah but a great character I mean great character and uh yeah and that was another but I
[00:58:57] want to just get back to the the fight in the night in the night club James did you have a sense of
[00:59:05] recognition when they went into the max throwing because we both now have experienced
[00:59:12] axe throwing and to neither of our surprises we're surprised we're both very good at the first throw
[00:59:20] yes yes I was looking at the technique as a fine-tuned mind and stuff yeah yeah the one handed
[00:59:26] underarm throw is a that was a perfect that so yeah there was some fine throwing axes in
[00:59:33] in this scene I mean it's just every I mean I'm losing track of how many weapons are used
[00:59:38] in different ways and stuff and it's like yeah it's um but it was I just thought great scene again
[00:59:46] I mean it just it doesn't need to and then the end he was just punching him to death and and then
[00:59:52] flipped him over the balcony to go head first into the stairs yeah and he's just like staring
[00:59:59] and he's like I need to check you still but they just kind of poked him a little bit with a knife
[01:00:04] double check that he's actually yeah gone so another great scene of chaos fighting and
[01:00:15] waterfalls and also another again we've visited another city guys that's Berlin to absolutely
[01:00:22] we are following a little bit of a bond sort of thing here where we travel the world destroying
[01:00:27] shit yeah but and then so we go from Berlin we head do we head back to New York?
[01:00:37] well there's he there's the word he goes back to show the tooth to the to the Belarus yes the
[01:00:44] Belarusians adopted sister a quick a quick chat about the earliest scene when he comes in and
[01:00:51] and he gets all his guns taken off him I always like a security check where he unloads all his
[01:00:58] weapon rear and she even goes oh nice gun and then the lady with the basket in the church yeah
[01:01:04] and and she's almost like oh is that it yeah then he walks down the aisle and he gets blown away
[01:01:11] with a shotgun by the priest oh yeah and then the priest goes nice suit nice suit yeah
[01:01:18] I forgot about that that's right yeah for all the newbies that kind of explains his
[01:01:23] bulletproof suit basically yeah yeah so lucky he was wearing it isn't it? yeah yeah
[01:01:28] so he hands off the off the he hands off the the gold tooth and he is now part of the family
[01:01:35] again and so the the the challenge to a duel can begin then we see McShane go to
[01:01:45] the Louvre actually and we see the Marquis sitting in front of of the very famous painting Liberty
[01:01:53] Leaning the People where the woman's holding the tricolor and it's a it's a painting of
[01:02:00] revolution and I'm interesting enough not actually the it's not actually the French
[01:02:07] Revolution that's referencing but it has become a symbol of that but I've sat in that seat
[01:02:11] and stared at that painting and I really think that this is going to be a huge tourism bump for
[01:02:17] Paris because they're all kind of recognizable famous locations you can definitely do the
[01:02:22] John Wick tour exactly because like the people who wish to travel the world to Paris are definitely
[01:02:28] getting it oh the Arc de Triomphe I want to go there because I saw John Wick 4 the Arc de Triomphe
[01:02:34] an Arc de Triomphe we'll get to it like the whole of Paris I mean it's just ridiculous
[01:02:40] well we're gonna have to run through this because it's going long but so let's just hop on there's
[01:02:45] a nice little scene at the at the Art Gallery and the Yadda Yadda Yadda we do this year as well
[01:02:50] Yadda Yadda Yadda and then yeah go take the challenge you do it you all Yadda Yadda
[01:02:55] yeah it's yeah because we're we're we're I'm sure we're both driven around that in a taxi
[01:02:59] at least and it's one of the most chaotic round the dance it's like normal traffic is lethal it's
[01:03:05] insane they're not stopping for anything no no clearly um I'm just gonna yeah and let's as we
[01:03:11] sort of head into Paris I just want to sort of say something if I can here as well yeah so um
[01:03:18] so the whole thing now is like we wiggins in Paris and he has to get to the church on time
[01:03:23] as it is and uh and I just the minute I saw this I'm like that is brilliant so and I read an interview
[01:03:31] chat about this and he said how he loved Walter Hill the Warriors and stuff and the whole Paris
[01:03:37] scene is drawn from that because you know he has to fight his way across Paris and and so we see
[01:03:42] this female DJ the real tight framing and I guess it's continental radio and as they said that
[01:03:49] frame for frame frame for frame and it's in the top of the Eiffel Tower and um and it's amazing
[01:03:55] and it's and she's like there's a wicked man out there and it's and it's tight on her lips is like
[01:04:01] as she announces and then like we drop to nowhere to run yeah or she goes here's a message to all you
[01:04:08] Boppers out there she doesn't quite I was waiting for that well she just mentioned Boppers but not
[01:04:13] the exact line the actual line all right now for all you buppers out there in the city of
[01:04:19] lights for all you street people with a meal for the action and as Chad was as discussed in the
[01:04:25] interview it was a great way to draw everyone in the city into this huge battle royale and also
[01:04:31] an amazing soundtrack exactly exactly but it's and it's just the whole the Paris thing and
[01:04:39] the whole thing plays like a video game it's like even because we just give a little shout out to
[01:04:44] the Warriors which is one of my all-time films growing up as well and I've got a quote from
[01:04:51] from um Stahelensky he said the Warriors helped to influence the Fort John Week film quote
[01:04:59] in my teenage years I saw the Warriors I thought it was the coolest thing ever all the gangs
[01:05:04] like the baseball furies are just sunk into the back of my head so look if you have not seen
[01:05:10] the Warriors and if you know you know it's one of the great all-time great gang films from the 70s
[01:05:16] and it's amazingly shot and and yeah go and check it out I'm sure it still holds up yeah I think
[01:05:24] it's one of those thank god nobody's remade it give it a minute it will do but yeah it's
[01:05:30] yeah every because it's the same same reference you they the kids have to get across the whole of New
[01:05:36] York don't they and back to Coney Island they have to cross through every territory I think from is
[01:05:42] it from the Bronx all the way down from Central Park you know all the way to all the way to Coney
[01:05:48] Island and each time they go into another area um that's run by a different gang the
[01:05:55] the DJ gets some and says it looks like the baseball furies have dropped the ball and you know who's up
[01:06:02] next they go into each gang and they kind of mirrored that here with each Aaron Dismont oh god and
[01:06:10] it was a beautiful tour of Paris wasn't it oh it was it was just how I remember it Jonathan
[01:06:16] can I just say and I know this is as we've said many times this is ridiculous and
[01:06:20] fantastical and all the rest of it but wasn't it convenient wasn't it convenient that we suddenly
[01:06:27] have a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda I know I was just like what are those American cars like an American
[01:06:36] car in Paris yeah you can't drive an American car in Paris you can't get down half the streets in it
[01:06:41] and um but in true John Wick style he loses both the doors very quickly yeah yeah um but he is immune
[01:06:50] car crashes there must be some airbags within the Kevlar suit that inflate very quickly and deflate
[01:06:56] but I think that is a theme across several movies yeah his immunity to being hit by cars
[01:07:04] so do you want to discuss the Arc de Triomphe well I think what I think we've covered that I mean
[01:07:10] just more kills more car crashes but is there anything specific you want to bring up I
[01:07:15] I have to say that the there is like a group of four cars and by the point he's lost both
[01:07:21] doors off the Plymouth yeah he's he's he's go it I love this is brilliant with one hand he's like
[01:07:28] he's almost doing a burnout and he's like power drifting that round as he's firing into them
[01:07:33] and I have to say that is the only time in this film sorry Mr. Director that I feel that you
[01:07:39] overdid the amount of rounds in the in the gun in the gun because it's like he goes round like
[01:07:47] there's no read in that way but let me just just as we find out though it is a 21 round magazine
[01:07:53] yeah I counted it is more than 21 I'm pretty sure so I can see counting rounds in it in a John Wick
[01:07:59] sadly I'm not and all right so look we've we've covered the Arc de Triomphe and we still have to
[01:08:07] get up to the church all right I think we both know what's coming up next shall we discuss
[01:08:12] our favorite scene Jonathan I'm pretty sure it's the same one yes I think James I know what you mean
[01:08:18] and with all my years of call of duty and and upgrading my weapons who would have thought that
[01:08:25] this moment would ever come oh my god so like we this is that one of those staff members were
[01:08:31] sat in the movie theater and they do the close-up of like the radio announcer she's announced like
[01:08:37] that he's heading like to whatever area now from the truck and there's three of three or four guys
[01:08:43] loading their pump action yeah Bernalie M2 semi-automatic shotguns and the box and they're
[01:08:50] loading that box dragon breath round boxes and I just like laughed out loud and I'm sure like
[01:08:57] lot of people like they go what the hell are they talking about we are this sad so if anyone
[01:09:01] doesn't know it a dragon breath round contains shards and magnesium so basically it fires
[01:09:08] a ridiculous like flameball out the end when it fires and then obviously the person is then
[01:09:14] engulfed in fire so it's like it's like it's like firing it's not only a set people on fire it's
[01:09:20] definitely a shock and all weapon yeah and we saw it put to amazing amazing use
[01:09:30] and what I loved is suddenly the camera just shifts up to this top-down thing exactly what's going on
[01:09:38] but then I realized they're doing a top-down video game yeah exactly exactly and if anyone's
[01:09:42] played the John Wick hex game which is like the one video game that's out there which is like a
[01:09:48] a a turn-based strategy one that's a top-down thing and it's a nod to that but um that's so
[01:09:56] I mean how fun is this in the movie like if you think about it the born films like
[01:10:01] like we got so excited when we had this close combat fighting in toilets splashing through walls
[01:10:06] and everything was tight and visceral and stuff and was made to be so real and then
[01:10:12] and then with absolute ease and aplomb Chastelinsky has pulled the camera up and over us and quite
[01:10:18] obviously taken the roof off of this soundstage yeah there are no ceilings and we are drifting
[01:10:23] like an angel over this scene and it's like phenomenal man and it's like and it and as we
[01:10:30] watch like John and they're all going in 90 degree turns like you're using a d-pad you know
[01:10:36] yeah yeah and it's a spin shoot spin shoot and it's yeah shout out to the gamers again
[01:10:42] exactly I just thought this was a refreshing p.o.v in a movie like one of the best ones since
[01:10:48] like bullet time in the matrix which obviously the bulletin revolvers as well but like just
[01:10:53] watch an out-of-body dream experience as you're floating over it and then and I love the
[01:10:59] way that there's no dramatic sort of moment of doing you just suddenly see
[01:11:05] tracker in a corner and then the dog jumps on somebody we're still in that above scene and then
[01:11:09] we come down and we come back into that but it I just thought that was a really smart fun
[01:11:16] different way to handle it and like you have to because at this point the movie's been
[01:11:20] rolling what for almost like two hours and it's like how do you freshen this up
[01:11:24] and then say and I thought that was that was just really really nice it's game changer I thought
[01:11:30] it was great and I did say to James keep an eye out for your kill of the week and this I'm
[01:11:36] afraid was both of us so no surprises really of all the of all the the set pieces of guns this
[01:11:44] was definitely our favorite watching dragon breath in live action I even thought it was a myth
[01:11:51] but no here it was but the box that I just loved the box of the design of the box of shells was
[01:11:58] amazing remember when I sent you my sat my recorded video from Call of Duty at 27 kills
[01:12:05] with that gun like in like under a minute oh you gotta watch this yeah so it's just like
[01:12:10] just the fireball explode and then to see it to see it in a film it was like it was just
[01:12:16] very amusing yeah it was really funny thank you really awesome and we haven't even got to the church
[01:12:25] yet Jesus there we go no and the stairs man the stairs oh then we hit the stairs and and when
[01:12:32] when they did the with that little card game where they're just deciding terms of the
[01:12:37] of the jewel it pulls up and it says I think he said something like something or the
[01:12:44] or the or the or sakura and I'm not coming sakura sakura sakura sakura sakura
[01:12:51] I lived at the bottom of those stairs for like two weeks and so I could see sakura every every
[01:12:58] how often did you do the stairs you lazy I did it a couple of times yeah I took some photos
[01:13:03] and went up but the the funny thing is is when they're fighting in there you know we'll go
[01:13:08] through the fire a little bit but when he rolls all the way down the stairs and and and and sees
[01:13:17] Kane again I thought Kane was about to say you know there's a gondola just here because there's
[01:13:23] actually a gondola so I thought they'd skip to one of you know one of those classic elevator
[01:13:29] scenes where they just stand up in the gondola gondola rather than fighting their way through
[01:13:34] but um should we should we just admire some of the stylings on the stairs James
[01:13:40] just I mean I have to have to say that I love Kane I think it's really cool
[01:13:44] but in an open street fight I know it's a little tricky that's a little tricky in you know the
[01:13:50] confines of the continental in Osaka in the kitchens and I think doesn't he where does
[01:13:57] he use his flash bangs at one point are we in um I can't remember but anyway but it's
[01:14:04] it's tricky that's the thing makes sense yeah I think they're walking up the stairs and
[01:14:09] and he's you know whatever but one thing I thought for another gaming reference was uh he fell back
[01:14:17] to the bottom of the stairs having failed that level of the stair climb and he summoned another
[01:14:22] player yeah so he's got someone did another player and there they are and they start to hit
[01:14:28] the stairs again but I think he he goes up and and John Wick says would you like nine or 12 when I
[01:14:34] soon this means there were enemies at the nine o'clock and the 12 o'clock and and he goes I'll
[01:14:40] take the nine so he's pointing out where the enemies were and he kept kept whacking the the
[01:14:46] I think the the railing to yeah I think that's a full suspension of disbelief
[01:14:52] what's the marvel character the blind marvel character dare devil yeah so I think he went
[01:14:58] a little bit dare devil in dare devil has special powers just yeah well that's what I think I think
[01:15:04] he needs some special powers but uh but again it's it's not real it's not real so we'll let them off
[01:15:12] yeah that's good so there were those 222 stairs um and if you ever do go to Paris definitely check it
[01:15:20] out because it's one of the most beautiful staircases in the world and as Jonathan says is a gondola if
[01:15:25] you want to just watch the stairs from the ground but rather walk away up but I'm afraid it's going
[01:15:29] to get the uh the tiktok treatment that the stairs in in the joke we've got and where people
[01:15:35] will be re-enacting gunfights that's hopefully not within days yeah yeah not I do love it when he had
[01:15:43] that that that great gun um that it has a dual prong blade and it's so when he's out of bullets
[01:15:49] he just deconstructed it and he's got a pistol grip dual blade knife and he just pink cushioned
[01:15:55] this guy puncher wounds everywhere so I also like the fact that Kane does a pencil kill
[01:16:00] as well yes as well as well or not even a kill puts in the guys where the guy goes you
[01:16:05] can't kill me and so he goes yeah we're like a fucking hurt you and then spits on him or whatever
[01:16:09] that's great and then and then we have the classic nuts yeah it was just beautifully
[01:16:17] beautifully done and um this one went on a tiny bit yeah they didn't need to fall down the stairs
[01:16:23] that many times did they and start and he's definitely dead when he falls down those stairs
[01:16:27] you know you're not getting up from that one and I know he was rolling but he again he
[01:16:32] needed some airbags to survive that one they're in the suit mate they're in the suit
[01:16:38] but we did make it to the top of the stairs and we finally get to the to the dual and um well let's
[01:16:45] discuss the terms shall we have the dual because we said that so yes is that so no as you mentioned
[01:16:51] earlier they they met before and they turned cards to determine who determines what yeah and so
[01:16:57] we're left with you know the the marquee like wanted blades right but then john wins out with his choice
[01:17:06] of pistols so they have pistols so it's like a single round in like an almost blunder bus
[01:17:12] like beautifully carved old gun at 30 paces proper yeah proper style at dawn and stuff so um yeah and
[01:17:21] then the sneaky marquee like any weasley bad guy decides to turn the tables to take a second yeah he
[01:17:28] nominates he nominates um kane as his champion to like fight for him to force friend against friend
[01:17:34] at the end um which was and which is great because let's face it I mean like Bill Skars
[01:17:41] guy is good but like he's no fucking match for the wick is there's no way and only a madman
[01:17:47] would challenge john wick to a gunfight that's exactly right it's like you wouldn't do it so
[01:17:52] you know the scene is set the sun is coming up and the marquee is literally through the whole
[01:17:56] sunrise it was beautiful like cg sunrise or i'm going into that um but um but the marquee is
[01:18:03] trying to go to the sector if you're in paris because that's that's an incredible view from
[01:18:07] the from the top of there so sorry james i interrupt no actually is that so that is actually
[01:18:13] all in camera at the top there because I oh yeah it felt a little bit cg cg-ish but
[01:18:19] it does have when you get to the top of sakura curve especially if you if you climb the stairs on
[01:18:25] the inside uh is the most incredible view of all of paris 360 degrees and and it's just like
[01:18:33] you're flying above it but yeah that was the view from on top of the sacred curve yeah i
[01:18:39] retract my blasphemy there about cg added to the john wick tour yes to the tour yeah so the marquee
[01:18:47] like bill sculls got his throne literally thrown the whole of paris at him to stop him getting there
[01:18:51] because like he's you know he knows full well it is not going to win you know he's playing dirty
[01:18:58] and whatever he can do of course um i mean it's the classic it's like your favorite film john
[01:19:02] it's like gladiator mostly he's like i'm a punch and wound for he gets there or something
[01:19:08] oh that was the other thing is can just gives him a little stab in the hand as they're
[01:19:12] really finally got to the top of the stairs that i thought was yeah yeah just to try and blast it
[01:19:18] yeah exactly so and then but doesn't he hand him the rag to tie around it to stop the bleeding
[01:19:23] there's a gentleman does so yeah um but you're right i guess these these guns were um
[01:19:30] unrifled because you know at 60 feet they weren't very accurate at all and uh you know it was a it
[01:19:38] looks like from what i see is a tomsen sender arms on core pistol which are used in the jewel
[01:19:44] of course and they they are a single single shot um but i don't think they were you know it's a
[01:19:51] rifled pistol uh because they kept them missing i don't think mine was blind yeah but i honestly
[01:20:01] i think that was the plan all along they were just right i think they're winging each other
[01:20:06] because neither of them wanted to kill the other no you see me and it's only towards the end that
[01:20:12] kane realizes what what wicks up to what's going on yeah and and let's i mean let's just jump to
[01:20:19] it shall we so we get to the third round and kane puts one in in wicks belly and he's down
[01:20:25] at the weasley marquee oh i'll finish him off i'll take that and he takes the gun from from kane
[01:20:32] and steps up a point blank range to shoot wick in the head and then god bless ear muck shane
[01:20:40] and then it's like was he say you arrogant asshole he's in fire and then wick from the ground
[01:20:46] held his third round and the marquee is so excited in the moment yeah he took a hit and then like
[01:20:51] unloads into the marquee and uh and that is that then quite literally the sun sets at sunrise
[01:21:01] sun rises but sets as well and yes we cut to the the dual graves and uh and i you know
[01:21:10] shed a tear i don't believe for a second that he's dead then well i see this is there's
[01:21:15] a whole debate obviously about this and there's a discussion um i don't know let's let me just
[01:21:21] do one one more thing before we get into that discussion so i i love a theory as you know
[01:21:27] Jonathan and they're usually all really wrong as we all do yes but so winston listen to any of
[01:21:34] our other podcasts and we have theories where we kill people off like left right and center
[01:21:38] um and winston mutters like farewell my son in wicks like romany dialect and i'm like
[01:21:45] it's actually loved him like one or was he actually his son i would say they had a father son
[01:21:53] son relationship relationship relationship relationship relationship relationship relationship
[01:21:56] yeah so um but yeah as you say is that oh he can't be dead and like and we've there's
[01:22:02] like there's already calls like lions gate want them to make more films and do this and
[01:22:06] do that but like the whole point of i mean if if he wanted to fake his own death he did it at the end
[01:22:12] of three when winston shot him off the roof it's like he should just go with it but he comes back
[01:22:19] to avenge everything and the irony is that he he does all of this and wants to stop the high
[01:22:25] table and clear his name to to have peace of mind and to die and go with his you know
[01:22:32] well not even die but just for his wife and just drift away and the only way you can get
[01:22:37] pieces to die and stuff so i think he it's funny because i i think he's dead and like and kind of
[01:22:44] raves in child have been grilled they've been grilled like in press meetings and apparently
[01:22:48] they won't say what they think but the general conclusion is apparently is most fans like somebody
[01:22:56] one of the interviewers turned around to kyana and said well most fans think that he is dead
[01:23:00] and like he looks surprised went oh cool and so hold on a fucking minute and then if you go back
[01:23:06] to what i was talking about earlier about chad's list of upcoming movies if you dig into like imdb
[01:23:12] or something he's got pre-production on john wick five listed this funny isn't it so for me there
[01:23:19] was undoubtedly just a um he does not die from the root you wouldn't if you do not see a dead
[01:23:25] body as we all know from the walking dead water yeah they are not dead didn't but i mean you know
[01:23:33] i don't know what we'll see but i mean he does we do see him but there's definitely um if he doesn't
[01:23:38] want to do anymore you can definitely write it as he died you know um but you could also write it
[01:23:44] it was just to cover the so exactly he could be on a beach somewhere or whatever but i mean we
[01:23:49] definitely see him in there's the spin-off there's um ballerina coming which has got anna
[01:23:54] de almas and apparently that happens between three and four and kyano does have a cameo in that so
[01:24:00] that's really filmed and done so he's in that we also know we have the continental origin story
[01:24:07] which is the story which is a mini i know this because i've been there hold on let me get this
[01:24:14] right so it's basically it's the origin story of winston how winston becomes the manager of the
[01:24:19] continental and it's set in the 70s in new york all right so um are they get recasting it or yeah
[01:24:26] yeah so basically you know they've they've completely recast it um and it's it's uh
[01:24:32] yes star wars could learn from this it's okay to recast certain characters um so basically the
[01:24:39] plot line i mean they've basically made three mini movies it's set over three nights and it's like
[01:24:46] and they call it night one night two night three so it's a three night stay at the continental
[01:24:53] and yeah and it's it's pretty cool i'm not i'm not allowed to say
[01:25:00] and the bad guy in your nda james oh blimey anyway um it's it's mel Gibson is
[01:25:07] the bad guy in it i can say that it's in it's how winston sort of takes over from that but it's i
[01:25:13] mean i've been to those sets and like the 1970s they rebuilt we're out where are we it's in it was
[01:25:20] in budapest and so they've rebuilt 1970s streets of new york like you know like with trash and like
[01:25:28] old cars and and it just looks so it basically looks like taxi driver looks amazing so i mean hopefully
[01:25:35] that'll do well and then there's potential to continue that storyline and we'll maybe we'll see a
[01:25:39] young wick like recast there or something so um how you recast kianu though well i don't know i mean
[01:25:50] we all see maybe they will de-age him we'll say yeah or just a haircut on a new suit it'll be fine
[01:25:55] but then all right let's just talk post credits then so we sat around for about
[01:25:59] 20 minutes of credit this is uh officially our news section so
[01:26:10] yeah look i waited i waited and waited and i knew it was coming i knew there was a post
[01:26:16] credit scene i knew there's only one and i was like all the staff are in there where their
[01:26:19] brooms are just looking at the three or four of us there's me and the other four nerds who clearly
[01:26:23] checked on the internet and we're just looking at each other like i'm not leaving if you're
[01:26:26] leaving you know literally lights are up no and i did my usual where i moved to a seat
[01:26:32] near the exit so i can get out there it's done and do that so do all that anyway so we wait like
[01:26:36] 10 minutes whatever to roll the credits and then we get and i have to say i was disappointed i thought
[01:26:41] i was gonna see wick on a beach somewhere or something yeah i um and but i mean it but it goes
[01:26:48] it goes back to what we said earlier about consequences so obviously you know akira and
[01:26:53] we jumped over this but after the massive battle in Osaka um akira the daughter is wounded
[01:27:00] when her father dies she sees wick on a train and she swears if he doesn't kill kane for killing
[01:27:08] her father she will um and now kane has been released from you know the the table is no longer going
[01:27:14] to kill his daughter so finally walking along with a bunch of flowers all happy flowers to go
[01:27:19] sit with and she approaches him with some a knife yes and she but we don't see it we don't see
[01:27:24] it enter the body Jonathan we don't but the other interesting thing was after they had the katana
[01:27:29] battle um they had the other interesting thing was after they had the katana battle uh he walks
[01:27:37] past her and he goes something like i look i look forward to seeing you in the future or something
[01:27:42] so he knows that he's left her alive and that she will come after him yeah so i thought that he
[01:27:49] has to go and finish her yeah it's um yeah yeah so i look forward to seeing you again or something
[01:27:55] like that but just an acknowledgement that he's aware that by letting her live that she will come
[01:28:00] after yeah the palace will cross at some point so i mean so that i put that down to his respect of
[01:28:06] her father as a great great warrior yes yeah and so that you know not to kill her as well
[01:28:13] at the time yeah so i mean i don't know i mean i'd like to think that she akira doesn't kill kane
[01:28:21] because they're both awesome characters i want to see a team up i want to see a team and then
[01:28:25] and then but trackers out there as well nobody's out there as well he's great as well i say
[01:28:29] so they there are so many yeah there wasn't enough of him i thought he just kind of flows
[01:28:34] around over yeah he did can i just jump into one of my favorite so back in the our famous
[01:28:40] favorite dragon breath scene
[01:28:44] like remember that the one of the guys he's taking he starts off in his very nonchalant
[01:28:48] he takes it out and then the guy another guy hits him or hits him bad or something and then he's
[01:28:52] pissed and then he whips half of his backpack back off and it comes down the front and plates on
[01:28:58] he's now fully kevlared up with nine mils mounted on his chest and he's yeah and that's when he
[01:29:04] shouts gun and like the dog goes down the stairs by the gun hand and then he finishes
[01:29:12] and but like just and and we haven't to be so many things you missed here john then
[01:29:17] so two and a half dog loving dog loving than a dog loves let's talk about the dog lovers
[01:29:23] yeah the dog was awesome this all started because of a puppy yeah don't mean and then so like you
[01:29:28] know and we we get to the point where like john wick and track are going at it in this you
[01:29:32] know in paris and then the big lumbering bad dudes there and he's about to execute trackers
[01:29:39] and wick sees that and he loves dogs and so he just you know he distracts the guy and takes
[01:29:45] him down and then just the look of admiration you know the the the bromance that then starts
[01:29:51] to form yeah exactly oh yeah that's right yeah that's where we go from my dog yeah you say my dog
[01:29:56] and so then for later on every now and then like because earlier track has been like
[01:30:02] like saving wick here and there just to get the numbers up
[01:30:12] but from now on he's like he's really got his back and you know because he's he's trying to work out
[01:30:17] an angle how he can get out from under the table as well but anyway yeah sorry we just jump back
[01:30:21] but I think track is a great character as well and like I think Shamir Anderson was like
[01:30:25] awesome in it as well so and just so you can leave it for the notes but we've covered a
[01:30:31] couple of the various guns that I had to look up what sort of rifle he was using because he was using
[01:30:37] a a repeat action rifle and and the interesting thing that I read up on is that all the guns used in
[01:30:45] these movies are available to purchase and because you're not allowed to advertise for guns but
[01:30:55] this is product basically product placement so these all these guns were developed in in
[01:31:01] collaboration with the movie and the gun manufacturers and this is a he used a Marlon model
[01:31:08] 1894 which is a mad pig which is a guts there's the the custom company modified 984 with the
[01:31:16] midwestern industries M lock hand guards slate black industries rail panels slate stop at an
[01:31:23] excite top rails used by by nobody and it's a takedown model specifically modified for the movie
[01:31:29] and a tracker carries it and disassembles it reassemble it reassembles it when he's pulls
[01:31:36] it out of his dev core plate carrier backpack and this look like a and this yeah and this mod pack
[01:31:43] is available on call of duty exactly it will you wait like I mean it's ridiculous like yeah
[01:31:51] but it starts out with basically a muzzle brake and the bidi also in you know attaches a sign and
[01:31:58] so to it throughout the game but it's basically a you said it there you said game you said game
[01:32:04] throughout the game throughout the movie yeah but it's basically an updated modified version
[01:32:12] of an old repeater rifle from the from westerns and which reminds me as we go into our fourth hour
[01:32:20] of this podcast that the use of western style music at the end when they're standing on the
[01:32:28] on the stairs that almost so the well well well something similar that comes in and they all
[01:32:35] pistols i'm not going to do any more of my bad impressions either well maybe hello then this
[01:32:41] is no don't don't start him up could you do in mckellan i can't all right let's leave that
[01:32:50] there no no impressions needed but yeah i mean the classic wick music and then yeah they did alter it
[01:32:58] and tweak it a little bit i think for the the uh the high noon or the sunrise standoff stuff so
[01:33:04] that yeah um and while we're in some notes and some gun nerdery i'll just go back to what i am
[01:33:13] yeah you've gone deep mate i'm a little concerned at this point
[01:33:20] but uh put you know part of the the fun of this film is with weapon descriptions and when he receives
[01:33:27] john wick rafi receives his gun from the bow re king and he describes it as a nine millimetre
[01:33:33] pit viper with a 21 round capacity magazine with a built-in compensator for virtually no muzzle
[01:33:40] flip fiber optic front side ambidextrous safeties a flare magwell for faster leet reloads and a
[01:33:48] two pound extreme trigger and that is available when i checked it up and i think it is a basically a
[01:33:55] 60 week waiting period yes as so it should be exactly yeah 21 rounds but yeah and the other
[01:34:04] interesting remember it's just a game james or a movie jonathan or a movie or a movie the other
[01:34:09] thing that was interesting was they you one of the submachine guns they used was a modernized
[01:34:16] tompson m1a ones oh yeah so they had uh you know basically uh the the tomson was a world war two
[01:34:24] era era submachine gun which is famous for all the gangster films known as the tommy gun
[01:34:31] but yeah they so they've updated it updated it and it looks sick
[01:34:37] and that ends jonathan's gun porn yeah that ends my gun porn the only thing i had uh there was a
[01:34:46] post of of kianu we they call the john wick five was john wick uh jeremy marinara's dav
[01:34:55] camarillo and bruise conception lee quang and i think they're all the the stunt team but john
[01:35:02] wicks out with them in a china it looks like a some sort of a restaurant and they've all been given
[01:35:09] stainless steel rolexes yeah so yeah so they're all sticking their hand in with these
[01:35:15] rolexes he's he's known for that he's amazing is he yeah and then any movie does he like he
[01:35:22] gifts everybody i think on the crew he's like it's yeah he's he's a special guy he's like
[01:35:30] the mr reeves is one of a kind okay let's uh go to the list and a feedback and uh we we did have one
[01:35:40] letter one piece of feedback because we wanted to get this out pretty quickly so you can watch the
[01:35:46] movie and listen to the podcast so i hope you have done both um well obviously by this stage
[01:35:51] you have been listening to the podcast so thank you very much but this is from penny Lennox uh hi
[01:35:57] jane j so i'm a john wick newbie i've been hearing about the movies for years and of course i love
[01:36:04] kiano reeves but just never got around to them before seeing four on friday i watched one thursday
[01:36:10] evening the style and artistic vision is really something the use of color in the lighting
[01:36:15] is gorgeous but i have real mixed feelings about this sign of glorification kind of glorification
[01:36:21] of violence and gun fetishism as an artist i appreciate the bellicent fight choreography and
[01:36:27] inventive use of dramatic sets the paris stairway scene was amazing though very video gamey i worry
[01:36:33] that young americans with easy easy access to guns are getting too many messages that violence is
[01:36:38] glamorous and manly my friend told me to imagine the movies as sequel to the matrix and this
[01:36:45] is the machines keeping the oh busy that really helped me now i'll probably get around to
[01:36:49] watching two and three at gun point at some point but in the meantime i'm going to need some
[01:36:56] gentler kiano maybe the lake house yes i think some gentler kiano is needed after this well
[01:37:06] thanks for the feedback penny it's great to hear from you as ever and thank you for your support
[01:37:11] well that was it james and uh i hope everyone enjoyed our first foray into a movie review
