SPEAKER_01

You are listening to the Wells of Live.

SPEAKER_00

Hey everyone, welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Pake.

SPEAKER_00

And this is the Run for Your Lives Podcast.

SPEAKER_01

This episode is the horror comedy film Cold Storage, directed by Johnny Campbell and released February 13th, 2026.

SPEAKER_00

A new one. Oh my gosh. You know, we started our season with a new one.

SPEAKER_01

Newer movies. Newer.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So let's just keep doing that. Because as we were talking about before we started recording, there's a lot of movies that fit our genre that either came out already this year or are coming out during the year. So we have tons of new content to be able to talk about.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I think I mean it's Run for Your Lives the way that we do things. So this season will go all over the place. I'm sure there will be some older classics and stuff we dive into and do stuff with from time to time. But I think I have the most fun when we're covering new stuff, so we will probably lean heavily into that a lot this season.

SPEAKER_02

But who knows?

SPEAKER_01

We all we always just do whatever we feel like from time to time too. So who knows? We've there's probably a good little there's plenty of a backlog of like still older movies that we haven't covered that we we can if we want to. But but there's so much really good new stuff out now or coming out soon that we definitely want to get to as soon as we can. So And I think a lot of listeners, I think you guys really like the new stuff too, that we we can feel a little bit more current and fresh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And you know, as usual, we wait until something hits streaming before we cover it instead of doing it right away, because even if we end up going to see it, we want you to be able to see it easily without having to go to the theater. And so we wait, even though I know some podcasts will cover a movie right away. We tend to wait because we want you to be able to watch it too without and I like to be able to like take my notes and really take my time with it.

SPEAKER_01

And my local theater gets mad every time I pause the movie every five minutes and try to take a note on my phone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, it I I feel bad because I know they ran you out of the theater that one time that you were taking notes. They they weren't very happy that you were doing it. I can't remember what movie it was, but but they were really riled up about it.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, because the uh the audience that's there to see the movie in theaters, they get really mad too because I hack into the system and I do pause so I can take my notes, and I just have to make everybody wait. And they're like, What why does the movie keep stopping and freezing? And it's just like I'm doing something more important than whatever you have planned for this evening.

SPEAKER_00

The runtime for this movie.

SPEAKER_01

It's five hours now.

SPEAKER_00

Because taking notes takes time. When you think about um podcasting as an actual activity is not something that just takes an hour and a half to record, or you watch the movie, you record, and you're done. There's note-taking and all of these other things that are part of it. And so, in some ways, it's like a six or seven-hour-a-week endeavor to deliver this podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There's so many things that go into it. We've been on a little extra break, as you guys know. We had that little extra break, and uh yeah, we're back now, fully in it, and ready to bring you some fun, scary, terrifying, adventurous movies over the season.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. We found it was a nice little break, and then we kicked it off with some 28 years and got to dive back into that world for a little bit, and now we've got all kinds of new stuff, and like I said, maybe some old stuff. But yeah, I don't know why we go on a tangent of like all the how hard podcasting can be. We don't want you to feel sorry for us. Yeah, you know, I'm glad you enjoy it, and we do enjoy doing it. But I don't know, if you if you want to Venmo us some money to donate for then you totally can. If you want to feel like it.

SPEAKER_00

Now, I wasn't explaining it for them to feel bad for us. It's just because sometimes I know people don't really know, and so it's you know, it's good to share that it's it's a process, it's not you know, it's a process that we love doing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But it's it it has different components and we manage it. So I'm not complaining, I'm just sharing what goes into putting this podcast together.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well, let's do some production notes. It was filmed in Rome and Caserta, Italy, as well as Warzazat, Morocco. Johnny Campbell has only directed two movies. His last one came out in 2006, and it was called Alien Autopsy. I kind of want to see more from him. Don't wait another 20 years to do another movie. David Camp wrote the book Cold Storage and then adapted the screenplay. He also wrote scripts for some of my favorites, like Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World Rebirth, which we covered that one last season. The budget was 10 million, estimated to be 10 million, and it grossed 3.8 million at the box office. I think that's deceiving because I think this movie could be a cult classic maybe 10 or 15 years from now, and so I I believe in it. I think there's a lot about this movie to love.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It was 99 minutes long. Pake, bring us a synopsis that you may or may not have had to correct IMTB on.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, changing a couple of things. Uh yeah. When a highly dangerous fungus escapes from containment, a former bioterrorism agent dives back into action alongside two young employees, and they must stop this threat.

SPEAKER_00

Excellent. And I saw what it said before, and it was wrong. So thank you for correcting that. IMDB, you can send us payment as well. We'll come in and correct your synopsis synopses if you need us to.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And again, they're get into it. It's it's synopsis supposed to be vague, because then I'm like, well, employees, but it was a containment. What does that mean? Because yeah, we'll we'll talk about the movie. Because there are employees at a self-storage place that which what govern high security government facilities are just closing and selling to somebody to open a self-storage unit thing like you know suspension of disbelief.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

A lot of that has to happen in this this movie, but it was still very fun.

SPEAKER_00

I really enjoy this one, and you picked it. We kind of were on the same wavelength when we were thinking about it, but then yeah. This I think was the perfect movie for us to cover this week. Plus, Pake Georgina Campbell. Love, love, love what she brings to the table. We got her in Bird Box Barcelona. We had her in Barbarian. She's moved on to the C films now with Cold Storage. Um she was also in Black Mirror in one of my favorite episodes, which was Hang the DJ.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

The matchmaker dating episode. I really liked that one. So um it's always great to see her. I don't know if we have covered a movie with Joe Carey before. I think this might be our first one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think this is the first time we've uh had him in a Run for Your Lives movie. I mean, I've talked about him plenty on Strange Indeed when I was doing that.

SPEAKER_00

Steve Harrington. Yeah, a lot of people um pretty much decided that if anything happened to him, they were gonna riot because he became a fan favorite throughout the is it was it five years? Six years? It just seems like five seasons. Twenty. Yeah. Yeah. Um so this was based on David Cap's novel, and I've started doing this whenever we are covering something that was based on a novel. I go and look on Spotify or Amazon um or what is it, Audible, to see if it's available in audiobook form. Because I might want to listen to it, and so it is available. So once I finish Clown in a Cornfield 2, Friendo Lives, then I will maybe listen to this one. Um which will be able to cover The Clown in a Cornfield 2, because they're gonna make it.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, good.

SPEAKER_00

I'm down for that. That was one of my like sleeper hits that season for us. I was not expecting to enjoy that movie as much as I did.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that will be fun for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So we're gonna do this the way that we always do. That hasn't changed. We are gonna talk about characters, and it's impossible to split up our duo of Travis and Naomi or Tea Cake and Naomi. I have him listed multiple times in my notes as Tea Cake or Travis.

SPEAKER_01

It goes back and forth.

SPEAKER_00

And they're the main characters. I'm I'm I mean the the the synopsis mentioned the former work the former government guy coming in, but to me they're the main characters of the of the movie.

SPEAKER_01

Follow their exploits a little bit more uh in depth. So yeah, it's always a good place to start there. Is yeah, we have this self-storage place, and it's the overnight security team, because it's a 24-hour place, so people can still come in and go to their storage units, and so you've just got this kind of two-person team manning the place. Uh Travis, aka T cake, um, who I guess has been there for a little bit, and then Naomi is must be the newer hire, because this is the first time they're meeting. First shift they've worked together, so she's new. Uh yeah, and we talked about I have you know, T cake Joe Eri, and I I have that spelled as DJ O Kiri in my notes because I can.

SPEAKER_00

Uh hoping to see him in concert this summer. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Uh so yeah, he's this overnight security guy kind of up top, while Naomi is spending more time kind of watching wandering the units downstairs. He lets this sad old woman in and goes down to her unit.

SPEAKER_00

Aww.

SPEAKER_01

Uh well, uh Miss Rooney. Uh Mrs. Rooney.

SPEAKER_00

Miss Rooney, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And and and that was that was fun. I like it was very sad at first because she's like, oh, she's gonna go down to her unit and go and be with her husband, for her late husband, forever.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, that's kind of what it looked like. She was gonna take her own life and she seemed very lonely. But she also didn't want to talk to him and didn't want him to talk to her, like as he was trying.

SPEAKER_01

It was kind of the through line. She's like, You're so chatty. And then even when Naomi meets him and they're like, You talk a lot, and then I love that whenever they're on the phone with with uh Robert later, and the first thing he has to say is like, Who's that other who's the other person with you? Oh, that's Travis. Tell him to shut the fuck up.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I've tried, he just doesn't listen to me.

SPEAKER_01

It's very loquacious.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, that's a new word. Like, I'm learning new terminology, new words, definitions. It's great. Loquacious.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And he makes such a joke out of that when she c says that he's loquace. It was it was kind of adorable.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, yeah, so besides you know, his normal job in tailing, he's also having to deal with this mysterious beep that keeps happening in in the building.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Griffin told him to take care of it. He did. He said to take care of it, and so as far as I'm concerned, T-Cape was not responsible.

SPEAKER_01

He was taking he was doing what he was ordered to do, which was going into the wall and climbing down the stairs into the or the ladder. All of that was yeah, he said he was told to take care of the beeping. So technically, the expedition, everything is warranted. He took care of the beeping.

SPEAKER_00

He did. Took care of the self-storage, too.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's not gonna beep anymore. After this movie, it's not gonna beep anymore. He did fix that problem.

SPEAKER_00

He took care of it. I think it's a success.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. Um, yeah, it's definitely more than just a smoke detector with the needing a change of batteries. But Oh man.

SPEAKER_00

Those have you ever had that problem at your house?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I take the batteries out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Usually if I don't have new batteries to go in, I know it's dangerous. And folks at home, please don't do that.

SPEAKER_01

But also, uh who do who doesn't do that? Where it's gonna be- I'll get the batteries eventually, but right now I'd rather die in a fire than have to listen to that anymore. So for the time being, it's worth the risk.

SPEAKER_00

The gamble is the beeping is oh, it's just so awful. And that's what it sounds like, really. I mean, it sounds like a smoke alarm that the batteries are going dead.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, so that's uh with this beeping, so that's how he goes on the little intercom, reaches out, and meets Naomi, this newer security guard, and she seems pretty cool. They start to get along, uh, despite Travis tea cakes, uh over chattiness. Uh she seems to kind of like him anyway, and they they hunt down the beeping together. Um while talking to him, I mean, she immediately tracks some of his like tattoos and the way he like talks and like the things he says, and she puts it together immediately, like that he was formerly in prison. We don't really know fully why. It seems like he was kind of just like a wheel man. He got roped into the to a situation he really wasn't supposed to be in. Um, I like how she even just like you know, oh, it was it Everett, and is like, well then you're nonviolent, so like, okay, we're cool. Then I don't it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what you did. Like, yeah, you're out now, and I I like that. She's just like, Pass is the past, you're here now, let's get along.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she's not dismissing him or making him seem like just because that happened, he's someone who should just be written off.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I like that they each had their own long, complicated stories that were annoying them. And they were too long, they didn't want to talk, you know, they're like, it's a long, complicated story, they didn't want to talk about it. But then eventually we do find out what the complicated stories were that they didn't tell. And they it wasn't, I don't think it wasn't something that really added a lot to the story of what we were watching in the movie, but it was interesting, like they were they were, you know, little stories that took a long time to explain, I guess. I like that she encouraged him to make the hole in the wall. She had and and Travis is like, I you know, people talk me into things, and so he was trying not to be the person talked into something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And so he's like, uh yeah, I don't he I don't think he wanted to do it, but then he gave in. And then after that, I feel like they just talked him into whatever. He would do whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

She would talk him into it. Probably because she didn't dismiss him. Like she just treated him like he was a person, and he's probably like used to being written off, so I like that. Although I don't think he wanted to go down the 400-foot ladder.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was I mean, it's quite an uh, you know, a journey exploring around. Not anything they would have expected to find down there. Like, who would have known there's like all this secret, high, you know, government, military, high security. Well, guess how not high security now, for being like a giant vault door. It was pretty easy to just open.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I think, yeah, it it wasn't that difficult. This movie reminded me of The Gorge, a little bit with like the green and fungusy stuff. Uh, creep show. There's a a vignette in Creep Show that is about a moss type substance that spreads. It's one that Stephen King actually is the star of.

SPEAKER_01

Nice.

SPEAKER_00

Um, which is kind of a fun. Um an invasion of the body snatchers in a little bit too. Like it was kind of a mix of a bunch of different movies, but I like that it it was really clever.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. But then you're also dealing with like the fungal um thing. It's very The Last of Us, girl with all the gifts. Yeah. It was basically alien cordyceps.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because it worked the same way, it would infect the host and then compel the host to spread it. And usually the way that cordyceps works in like ants and and grasshoppers and bugs and stuff, and is having them climb to a high point and then bursting open and releasing spores or whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It kind of worked the similar way of having people climb up as high as they could, or animals, or whatever it infects, climbing up climbing up high and then exploding.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I mean, impaling themselves on certain things, yeah. Yeah. That that was something new. Yeah, it did remind me of the of really um the girl with all the gifts.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because they did like the spores and like the release. Yeah. But then it kind of goes more Last of Us because it adapts. It you know, then like like graboids, it gets smarter and it learns. Uh and so then it's just like, alright, I'm done climbing on top of things and exploding. Now let's start exploding in the vicinity of other people or vomiting on them and spreading it that way just by physical touch and get it just directly, you know, farm to table. We don't need to Organic green goo.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I mean, you could just wait for the latest elevator take a ride up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you gotta wait for the deer to be done using it first, though.

SPEAKER_00

You you know, you really do. That made me think, am I watching is this Severance and it's some twisted thing with I don't know, because it reminded me of of the lamb room, the the lamb room and the animals on severance. So I'm like, I don't know. You think you figure it out, okay? This is like this. Oh, but it's like this, but it's also like this, and it's also like this. And then if you put it all in a blender, you get cold storage.

SPEAKER_01

A nice green goo that is gold storage.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So if it's like that, was the deer that came out of the elevator upstairs? Was that the innie deer or the outie deer? I guess actually the the deer's any became its outdies after. I think so.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

It kind of was just both. Yeah. Yeah. Uh they somehow avoided any splatter from the running deer goo explosion.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know how they did that, because I really thought one of them was gonna get it.

SPEAKER_01

There's a lot of goose plosions that they I don't know how they didn't get anything on them. They're standing right there.

SPEAKER_00

Uh you know what? I think it was a continuation of the Stranger Things mantra that they didn't they knew that the audience wouldn't want anything to happen to Joe Carey's character, so they continued it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and no, you can't hurt Georgina Campbell. Leave her alone.

SPEAKER_01

So his his plot armor actually extended to people around him, so as long as you're with him, you're good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's kind of a super Superpower he has where he's built a shield around himself that no one can see, but it's there. Um the fungus works really, really fast. Like it's I don't I mean it made me think of the rage virus and 28 days later and how fast that happened. This wasn't quite as fast as that in some ways, but once you were infected, it it was starting. It wasn't like you had a few minutes to adjust, it was just starting to erode your brain and turn you into a missile of exposure, basically, trying to spread everything.

SPEAKER_01

Which is, you know, Travis didn't really seem to trust Robert at first. He was like, what is this guy gonna do? And then so he wants to like leave out of like the storage unit they were hiding in to just be like, I'm gonna go, you know, stop this zombie problem. It's like, what are you gonna do on your own because of how quick it spreads and how it's like, what are you planning on doing? Like, what was he really going to it? What else are you going to do?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, it needed a nuclear option for sure. I like though with the zombies, he wasn't she was kind of dismissing him on that, but he wasn't referring to like the Romero zombies that we've seen in movies. He was referring to like this voodoo, Haitian voodoo, yeah, like zombie thing.

SPEAKER_01

Which also not how these worked at all, but no. Like I said, it's more he would know. I mean, if he's as big of a zombie nerd as it seems like he is, because he was talking about I like this. He was like, you know, he was like, yeah, there's movies and TV, and he's like, and I've got plenty, I've got a long list of the ones I can recommend to you. Which was like, oh, he's a big zombie nerd. I knew I liked this guy. Yeah. Uh but I mean, then he should know Last of Us and Girl with All the Gifts and stuff. If he's that big of a nerd, then like he should know what this is. He should recognize this.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. You have to, you know, if you live in it, like the two of us being Walking Dead fans, we've seen a lot of the zombie stuff. I mean, we've covered a lot of zombie films on this podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like we are experts enough that if we were faced with a situation like this one, we would observe and format a hypothesis based on what we know in our heads.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I wouldn't have thought zombie. Maybe. But he obviously did.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Which it's technically not. Again, it's this infected versus zombie alien parasite, you know, whatever it is. Um, but it works similarly. You know, they their brain turns into the function of spread, which is what zombies are too.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah. That's spread at all costs. Get it out there, move it around. I mean, not unlike Pontypool, which was an audio-based thing. Like it's it's a fungus, not a virus, but it spreads in a particular way that is not unlike some of the other things that we've seen.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh we talked about them like being in that storage. Of course, they end up going down there after Naomi's ex Mike shows up, and then he gets infected, and so now we have this infected X infected X, band name called it. Uh Infects. Infected X. Um, yeah. Chasing after them, uh, which I guess, you know, the fungus isn't that smart, completely just like not paying attention to the only door that's not closed. Uh and they they almost got away scot-free with it until you know backing up into the drum set. I was like, way to go, whiplash.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man. Um, yeah, he's very clumsy. They are really lucky that they were not found by Mike at any time because he just kept making noise.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but they they hide out there, they had seen the Oh god, what was it like? I never even wrote it down, the actual acronyms of the Oh, Peggy did.

SPEAKER_00

Because I have a reason why. DTRA is what is written on the door downstairs, and I thought it's very cool that you and Naomi have something in common where you like to create fake acronym meetings when needed, because she decided it was don't touch radiation, asshole.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And then she almost touched it. So she's not even taking your own advice. Like, come on.

SPEAKER_00

What are you doing? You are someone who knows a something about medicine. You need some rubber gloves. You don't go touching. You know? You don't. You don't know what that is. Man. Yeah, you definitely don't do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, there's a lot. They they contact DTRA, and then again, it gets back to which took them a while. We gotta figure out who to contact because all this has been just like long buried and forgotten. But it does get back to Robert, and he gets in touch with them, telling them, you know, don't move, stay there. Think they'll make it? Not a chance.

SPEAKER_00

Uh but I was hopeful because I felt like she had brains and he had some of the brawn, and I thought together they could maybe survive this, but I also know these movies sometimes it's uh it ends in a very hopeless way. And so I was kind of trying to prepare myself for that. I did find their definition of a rat king to be a little bit different than what I've seen before. But that rat king was that that was not something I ever needed to see in my lifetime. That was yeah, no. Not doing it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the staying put thing didn't last very long. Because again, as I mentioned, like Travis is just like, well, I'm getting out of here because I'm gonna stop the zombies. I don't know. Again, what was your plan? I don't really know.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, they had one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they go out because like Griffin and his biker gang shows up. Uh, which I was a little confused about. I guess, you know, they're running TVs or something.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know what they're whatever he's got going on. There was a storage unit that someone didn't pay for, and they ended up with whatever was in it, maybe, or they hijacked a truck somewhere for these TVs.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Who knows? Because he seems to be kind of like the leader of this group, but he's kind of an idiot. So I don't know. Oh, like he just plays pretend badass really poorly, but it is kind of funny, you know, just like it's me. And it's like, hands up, my hands have been up. Drop the gun. I don't have a gun. Get on the floor, up against the wall. Which one? Which one?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, come on. Travis just wants an answer. He doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing because he keeps getting mixed signals or mixed commands. And I'm with you. Griffin's an idiot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I was confused. Like, why did glasses guy keep calling him Daryl the whole time? Because I thought he was Griffin.

SPEAKER_00

Uh me too. I don't know where that came from. I I really don't know. Um, and the glasses guy was Dr. Friedman because I wrote him down as Glasses Guy throughout all of my notes, and then I went to Wikipedia after, and I'm like, oh, so that's what his name was. Because I I didn't know. Also, there was a guy called the Rev. But I was called It's the guy that just took off with all the TV.

SPEAKER_01

So he actually ended up surviving just because he was tired of their bullshit.

SPEAKER_00

Like I called him Santa Biker because I didn't even know what his name was until I looked after. Like Santa Biker got out of Dodge.

SPEAKER_01

Santa Biker? Bring put some TVs under my tree. You've got like 33.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, Peg's Christmas album will be coming out later this year, so watch for that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Griffin did not help the situation. He basically brought people in to get slaughtered, including himself.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Oh, that wasn't even at the hands of the fungus like everybody else.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

That was just like Trini coming in and being like, yeah, fuck that guy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. That was, yeah. I really thought he might make it, but then he was being such a jackass with Quinn that I'm like, no, take him out before he's gonna fuck something up and get somebody. He's already got all these people killed. He's gonna fuck it up and even more people will be killed. Including Travis and Naomi. So no, take him out because he's an idiot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So they leave him and all the rest of them taken care of there. Gotta run the bomb back down, which is just that whole thing, and then like Robert just started it, started the timer, and then handed and then handed it to him. Like, alright, now go do it. Because he's like tell tells them how to arm it, but then you know, in his head, he's like looking at Travis and going, I'm not I'm not trusting this guy to know like to follow directions and do it correctly. I'm setting it now, and then he'll get it down there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Again, I think they probably would have been okay to do it and just lower it down the top like that long um ladder. But they they stayed committed to the project and they took it into the room, but not into like the little And I was like, do we need to put it in there?

SPEAKER_01

And I before they even said it, I was like, no.

SPEAKER_00

No, absolutely not. You're not doing that.

SPEAKER_01

You're good.

SPEAKER_00

If you do that, you're gonna risk hurting yourself. And then they were taking off their hazmat suits to go up the ladder faster once they realized that he had armed it and they had no time. I'm like, oh my god. This wasn't a love story. Like it wasn't like, oh, these two are a couple the whole time. Even though you could kind of tell they were digging each other and like it was it was a cool thing. Um I didn't want one of them to die in case, you know, they wanted to be friends after, because honestly, I felt like uh I felt like Travis needed a friend. I feel like he needed someone who wasn't gonna write him off.

SPEAKER_01

And she was cool. Yeah, so they plant it, they get out in time, they pick up Robert, they get out of there. And uh I mean it's a good thing that that location was incredibly remote because boom.

SPEAKER_00

There was a big hole at the end, like everything was you just yeah, a crater was made.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And if you had anything in the storage unit at that place, gone. Bye-bye. It's over.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It was very remote, which I was that's usually not a thing. I think most who who opens up a storage, self-storage center way out there. Like usually that's gotta be pretty like central location, easy for everybody to get to in the middle of a town.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, because it's supposed to be convenient if you need to get something.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

If you're gonna put one out there, it makes me think, what are you up to out there in the middle of nowhere?

SPEAKER_01

This is a sell, this is a storage place for illicit substances only. Uh nobody's going out of the way to store store stuff there. They did say it was a discount self-storage, so that must be what gets people to use it out there. It's like, yeah, it's it's a 20-minute drive, but it's worth it. But it's five bucks a month.

SPEAKER_00

I'd be down for that. Five bucks a month. I would love to clean out my basement and store it out of my basement, like some of the stuff that I never get go into, which makes you wonder why do you keep it? But it's sentimental stuff, and you just you can't let go of it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But they're able to get a what? Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

It does make me want to see the movie adaptation of Jay Bon and Zangha's uh, I believe, self-storage, which also a great horror story that takes place in a self-storage containment center uh facility. Um and I love the book. I have a signed copy because I bought it and he signed it after I moderated uh like panel and did an interview with him at a convention.

SPEAKER_00

Um Was he your first panel?

SPEAKER_01

He was.

SPEAKER_00

I thought so.

SPEAKER_01

Uh and and yeah, uh it's a great, really fucked up, horrible, horrifying story. Uh but it, you know, a lot of supernatural, like really crazy incense stuff. But uh I think because I remember like sometime last year I had seen something about they were working on a movie adaptation. I think Chris Jericho was involved in like starring in it or doing something. Really? Yeah, and but I haven't heard anything about it in like a year or more, so I I don't know if that ever like kept going or not.

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes those things pop up and then you don't hear anything about them, and then five years later something drops.

SPEAKER_01

So So we'll see. Yeah, random tangent. But I thought about that because like watching, you know, because whatever when this one was first announced, I was like, oh, did they change the name a little bit? But are they doing it? I was like, oh no, this is a separate thing, but like, but then watching this today, even I'm just like it reminded me. I'm I want that to come out. I need to check back into that and see.

SPEAKER_00

There was also one of those Walking Dead webisode things that was about a storage unit.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

I saw it way back probably ten years ago, because it they only really did those like the first I think few seasons. They did one about the bicycle walker, and then there was one about a storage unit.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, that I remember vaguely. Um, but they didn't do them after really after that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, so anyway, big bing big R.I.P. Pontiac.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Anthony is not gonna be happy about the Pontiac.

SPEAKER_02

That's his baby.

SPEAKER_00

And already it sounds like his wife doesn't like his mother. Like something happened.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Janet sees you're here, she's gonna kill you. I'm like, what happened?

SPEAKER_01

What what could she have done that his wife would have liked her? Like, it's not like she stored a nuclear bomb in their garage. Wait, wait, maybe that could be.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But Janet didn't know about that. But if she's storing nuclear weapons in her son's garage, what other things has she been up to? Yeah. So they were able to get away.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The world is saved. We get to see tea cake and Naomi with Sarah, who is Naomi's daughter, just kind of sitting on a blanket, hanging out.

SPEAKER_01

Getting to be a father figure. It's nice. Good for him. Even more importantly than The World Saved, we got the origin of the name Tea Cake revealed. So that's what we really needed out of this. That was perfect.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which is basically his friend stole all the good snacks, and he got stuck with a tea cake when he went into a store and he liked it and wanted to go get another one, so they started calling him tea cake. Cause she thought it was something else. Yeah. She thought it was based on a character, and I looked into it. There's a book called Their Eyes Were Watching God, and there's a character named Tea Cake in that. It's like from the 30s, I think. Which is almost a hundred years ago page.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it is. That's wild.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, world saved, everything's fine. Well, maybe, but not. We don't know. Classic cliffhanger in these kind of movies. You gotta you gotta leave us with a little bit of the something something.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, that deer didn't look too bad until it puked on the screen.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe it just ate something bad. It was fine.

SPEAKER_00

You know, it might have walked on an old double day set and ingested some green slime.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. That's I you know, deer do have a hankering for gak. That's a scientific fact, I think. So it was a problem at Nickelodeon Studios. They were like, we gotta keep the deer out. They keep getting into the slime, into the gak.

SPEAKER_00

We're not gonna be able to film any of these shows that require it because the deer can't do the big slide that comes out of the nose today because the deer got into the slime. Yep. That's what happened, Peggy. That's that's what happened. That's what I'm choosing to believe.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, Mark, we can't film today. It's the deer.

SPEAKER_00

Nope. Nope.

SPEAKER_01

God, I loved Double Dare.

SPEAKER_00

Would you have been a contestant on there if you could have?

SPEAKER_01

Maybe. Maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe. Maybe you loved it.

SPEAKER_01

I loved watching it. I didn't say I wanted to participate in all of the physical physical challenges. I just I liked watching it. I liked other people. I watched watching other people do it.

SPEAKER_00

Did they have the thing that was called physical challenge?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I only saw a couple of episodes of that.

SPEAKER_01

Like I never really got into it, but I was a kid, like young kid of the 90s, so that was like perfectly right in my era. That was of course it was.

SPEAKER_00

You were addicted as long as you didn't have to do the physical challenge.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

As long as you were able to watch everyone have fun.

SPEAKER_01

Man, that whole that was yeah, that was my era was Doubledare and then Double Dare 2000 and like Legends of the Hidden Temple and Guts and Global Guts, the Aggro Crag. Oh yeah. See, that was my time, man.

SPEAKER_00

That's why we do this podcast, so that we can cover movies that force Peg to think about and look back with these wonderful memories.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I also again I loved Legends of the Hidden Temple, you know. I loved watching other kids do it. I'm you're not getting me running around in all next temple. It's too much cardio.

SPEAKER_00

But cardio's one of the most important things if a zombie apocalypse hits. That's what we learned in Zombieland.

SPEAKER_01

Which we actually haven't covered. But we have seen it and we've learned it.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man. Another one that we need to cover. Oh God. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah. Back to this. We've we've ended the movie, but that's not all that we have to talk about. Because we can circle back to Robert, who's look, it's Liam Neesons. Always a good time.

SPEAKER_00

Liam Neesons? Why did you say Neissons?

SPEAKER_01

As a Key and Peel reference?

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Also, not something that I have seen. And don't tell me to get on it because I've already got a list of things that you told me to get on. And I don't have time.

SPEAKER_01

You haven't got on any of them yet, so.

SPEAKER_00

I have. I do watch Dimension 20. I, in fact, have completed several seasons of Dimension 20.

SPEAKER_01

Several, as in two.

SPEAKER_00

Three?

SPEAKER_01

Completed three?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Drag Queens.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Cloud Ho.

SPEAKER_01

Just one season of Drag Queens, right? You haven't watched both of them.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah. You're just trying to find a way to hold me down and say push my excitement down. Why would you do that?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

It's who you are. I'm used to it by now. So Robert Quinn.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So we meet Robert. Kind of, you know, back almost 20 years prior, really. When he goes with Trini to this. I don't even know where it was.

SPEAKER_01

Australia.

SPEAKER_00

Out in the middle of nowhere, basically.

SPEAKER_01

This is an Australian town that I will not attempt to pronounce.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. Well, they go out there because some they had gotten a call about this Skylight. Okay, so let me back up a little bit so we have a little preface to this situation.

SPEAKER_01

Back up all the way to the very beginning of the movie. Uh yeah. Ending the exposition intro text with pay attention, this shit is real. I thought that was funny. It it does set the tone very well for the movie. So I was like, okay, good.

SPEAKER_00

Uh huh. So this whole movie takes place because a Skylab has been, you know, falling back to Earth. In pieces, basically.

unknown

And

SPEAKER_01

I fall to pieces.

SPEAKER_00

That's coming on Peg's retro album where he goes back and covers some really classical uh classic hits of music.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. How many albums am I putting out this year? Me.

SPEAKER_00

You're putting out a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Just a workhorse.

SPEAKER_00

You you're trying to to be on it. You're you want to release many.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just gonna do all of them.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. All the genres.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Every album.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

Every album that comes out this year is me.

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna have a really hard time when you do your top nine in January and they're all you. You might have to let someone else evaluate them. Because I'm not sure that you can. I don't I don't think you should. I think you should let someone else do it. So, again, this is taking place because a Skylab is coming back into the atmosphere.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Or I guess it did already, and most of it was in the ocean, and they cleaned up stuff, but then yeah, this one like one of these like.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's an oxygen tank.

SPEAKER_01

Landed in not going to pronounce it Australia. And some guy was just like, I'm gonna keep this and charge admission for people to look at it. And they're like, okay, that's fine, you can do that. Even though we know there's this adaptive space microorganism in there that's totally not gonna be the end of the world. But that's fine, you just hold on to that.

SPEAKER_00

It's never a good sign. That may was it meant no, was it men in black that had that? Or I don't know. So many movies get I I get the vibe from when I watch this. Um yeah, so Quinn, that's what I call my notes. Quinn and Trini went with Dr. Martin's to check out this tank because they get a call from the guy who had kept it and that something was happening.

SPEAKER_01

Which is funny because it was Doc Martins, Doc Martins that were in her ended up being her downfall.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Do you think I have to go check and see if these are the actual character names in the book? Because if they are, you know David Kemp did that on purpose. And if he didn't do it on purpose in the book, he did it on purpose here. Because her first name is Hero. Dr. Hero Martins.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. What a hero she was.

SPEAKER_00

For what, five minutes? Yeah. So she she gets infected, and we get this montage of this oxygen tank being put inside this box that's supposed to keep it from leaking and taken to this bunker in Kansas and sealed up and put away. And then miraculously later, it just, you know, this storage facility for government pathogens becomes a self-storage center.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Of course, why were they think like what kind of heavy security? Like, there was levels of security, but eventually over time, it's like we see that it eats through stuff. I mean, yeah, the boots aren't that bad, but like it ate through this capsule that was designed to survive launch and then probably even like re-entry into Earth's atmosphere and atmospheric pressure. It ate through that. Then what makes them go like, all right, steel door and little glass vial? It'll be there forever.

SPEAKER_00

And ever and ever and ever. No.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just glad that they checked Galveston off the list of places they were gonna keep it while they were talking about it at first.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, that would have been a little too close.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

And I liked Galveston when we were there. Yeah. It's a nice little place. So no, we don't want anything happening.

SPEAKER_01

There's plenty of other green goo in Galveston to deal with. We didn't need more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. True. True. Um, yeah, so we don't see Quinn until basically he's getting a phone call. And I have to say this because um Claire Holman plays his wife. She was a an investigator in, I think it was Midsummer Murders. I watched so much. She's British. Just was so happy she had that little cameo as his wife. Um but we don't hear you know, we don't see Quinn until he gets a phone call from someone in this center who basically says her name is Abigail. We find out it's not Abigail. Um, but she becomes really instrumental to him in being able to figure out who's infected and who isn't, because she's able to see like the heat.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But also in making sure he has what he needs, even though the jerk in charge, you know, doesn't he's just an asshole. Like he he doesn't he's not helpful.

SPEAKER_01

I got so excited when I first saw him, though, because I know even but like just his voice, and then I was like, wait a minute, is that and then you like see his face, like Richard Brank, Richard Brank!

SPEAKER_02

Yes!

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I always love whenever I see him. He's fantastic because he's perfect at sleazy villain type. I'm sure he's just delightful in person. I've never had the opportunity or honor of meeting him. I know our friend Jason has and has run done a panel with him and has talked to him, so I'm sure he's absolutely delightful, but he's always great in sleazy scumbag roles. He's so good at it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he was also in Barbarian, so this isn't the first movie that he was in with Georgina Campbell.

SPEAKER_01

We've covered him, I think, in two movies so far. I think this is third uh uh because he was in Trigger Island as well. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he played a sleaze in that too. Like he's really good. There are just some actors that crush it when it comes to being the bad guy. But not just a bad guy. There's this sleazy feeling that you get in addition to that.

SPEAKER_01

So I I cracked up so hard though, at the as they're on the phone, and then as Robert, you're Liam Neeson, as he's hanging up the phone, he's like, up yours, asshole. And then you hear the voice, Richard Rigg's voice on the other end, I'm still here, Robert, and he goes, I know.

unknown

He doesn't care.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_02

He doesn't care.

SPEAKER_01

I love that Liam Neeson is at this part in his career where he's just saying yes to any fun project, like indie horror films and stuff like this, to the new Naked Gun movie that he did last year, which was incredible, by the way. Like, so much better than anyone should have given it any credit for. It was so funny and so perfect. Like, that was a great time. I love the new Naked Gun with Liam Neeson. And it's like if you would have said, you know, however many years ago when he was like peak, like taking Liam Neeson and been like, yeah, he's gonna star in a reboot or like a continuation of the Naked Gun and be the most absolute slapstick, nonsensical, ridiculous version of himself he's ever been. But Liam that guy? Liam Neeson's gonna do but he nailed it. I love that he's just leaning into the camp in his older age and just like, alright, I've done all the like blockbuster movies, I've done the big high-end dramas, now it's time for me to have fun.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And he like leaned into his age a little bit, like he was like his back was a problem. And so he's leaning into it. He he's not trying to present as being a 50-year-old action star instead of his age, which I think is 70 now. Um, I I appreciated that so much. And I loved the relationship that Quinn and Trini seem to have, where it's not romantic, it's just they get each other, they're like partners in crime, they're like a tag team. And Leslie Manville, I thought, crushed it. We didn't see enough of her in the movie, but I loved every scene she was in, and I loved that she showed up at the right time in the Pontiac to save the day and show that she's just a tough girl, too. Like, I I really loved that. Um Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He just like takes this on on his own, really, though. Like, again, he Jarebec, which is Richard Brake's character, and like others, like, because this has was such a like buried and secretive thing that like the higher ups, like him and notes, like, oh yeah, there was like a thing that we kept hidden away, but like who really cares? But he knows immediately when he first gets that phone call how dire this is because he's one of two people who have seen it firsthand.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And what it can do. And because of Abigail, or you know, at the time is what we know her as, like, he's you know, he's able to get through to Trini, who's the other one who knows, and so of course she's gonna help out as well.

SPEAKER_00

But they're both retired, Peg. They're they're not even in this anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but if they don't do something, then the whole world will retire.

SPEAKER_00

You know why he has to come in, Peg, because he has a particular set of skills.

SPEAKER_01

He does, in fact. Truly. Um one of those skills is item seven. Yes. I love that they're very just mysterious about that whole time. It's like you got everything? Like, what about item seven? We gotta go pick that up.

SPEAKER_00

Uh what is item seven and why? You know, it's so catchy.

SPEAKER_01

It was on his white paper. So Abigail knew what it was. They just kept being very mysterious about it until we see them pull it out of the garage and then show up with it. And it's really not even until he's showing Travis and Naomi that you're like, oh, nuclear bomb, got it. That's yeah, literal nuclear option. Uh because it was just like, what she's like, you know, are we gonna what are we gonna have to do? And he's like, we're gonna have to do, you know, you know, Abigail's even like, is that what we're gonna have to do? They're being very vague again. It was like, I saw your white paper, I know what your plan is.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, what what terrible end game is on this white paper? But I was like, yeah, it's I assume it's similar to what they did to Australian town. Uh just burn it all down, but even more than that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, you have to get rid of it. It has to like be completely eviscerated because it's the only way to make sure that this fungus doesn't exist beyond where it is. You've got to extinguish it by fire. I mean, really. It can't be done any other way.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Hand it off, hand it off to the kids. Let them handle it. I'm too old for this. You youngins can handle the the bomb. Um, I'll stay up here and throw my back out shooting a guy with a machine gun, which been there. I hate when that happens.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, their options were to take the bomb down or stay up here and have to kill people because that's what he was gonna have to do. Anyone that was infected was gonna have to die. Like if that was the situation. Because at first I'm thinking, Travis, are you sure you want to be talked into going down there to do this? Like, why is and I was also thinking, why are you sending two inexperienced people down there to do this? Like this is way above their pay grade. What are you doing? And that's because he had he was responsible for making sure that nothing truly escaped.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he can't let anything out, especially now with the storm that had come in and it's raining. Because we see how how much faster it all works when there's water involved.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing could leave this place at all.

SPEAKER_00

No. And so the i I I had to wonder, did he really think that they were gonna be able to get back out, or was he sending them down there to die?

SPEAKER_01

I think he was just kind of like, whatever happens, happens. Um I think he was like hoping they would make it back, but he was also like, if they don't, yeah, it gets done anyway.

SPEAKER_00

It's gotta get done. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. That was Star Trek. Um it applied here too.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So, but you know, everybody who went there, you know, the few that got out, they the Rev got out, and then Miss Rooney got out as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she did.

SPEAKER_01

Which I at first I was like, oh no, she's gonna get infected as well. She's just another red shirt. You gotta put people in here so that they can turn. We need zombie people. But then after she came out and and took out uh Mike, or no, because yeah, I think she did. Yeah, she took out Mike and then has it got in and then she's just like I was like, oh well now badass granny is so much fun. I was like, now I definitely don't want her to get infected, and I wouldn't even mind if she stuck around and joined the team.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, Mary Rooney, played by Vanessa Redgrave, who happens to be Liam Neeson's mother-in-law.

SPEAKER_01

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

He um her daughter was Natasha Richardson, who unfortunately passed away, I think it was in the mid-2000s, uh, from a skiing accident. So they didn't have any scenes together, but they got to be in the same movie, so I thought that that was kind of cool. And plus, I mean, I was happy she survived because at the end I'm looking at okay, who did make it out? The Rev, the four in the car, and Mary Rooney.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like the oh, throw your gun in the river, and then she just tosses it to Travis, like, I'll let you handle it instead. He's like, that will also work.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm like, all I could think is Travis, you've been in jail, your fingerprints are now on this gun. This is not a good thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I don't think that's an issue anymore. That gun is with everything else in there. It's it's gone. It's done for. We're good.

SPEAKER_00

Instantly dissolved, basically. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I do have just some other like a huge chunk of notes, honestly, but I could probably go through them fast. Oh my god. About just thoughts about like all the zombie fungus, cordyceps, and stuff. And I've talked about some of it, but just talked about a lot of it. Uh, it was it was fun. Uh yeah, Carol. Oh, I thought Carol, but no, Hero. Hero was her name. I don't know why I wrote down Carol. I didn't watch this with subtitles, so I heard Carol, but it's Hero.

SPEAKER_00

Um that's why I had to go and do it, because I didn't watch it with subtitles either. And so I had to go double check what people's things were because it it just didn't seem yeah, I wasn't like sure.

SPEAKER_01

They see how fast the infection takes on her, so it's like, oh, this is highly dangerous stuff. We're just gonna blow the remnant of that town to hell and take that sample away for safekeeping, lock it away in this cold storage, you know, as the title would say. Underground in Kansas, and it sits there for years and years and years and years and years until the government site is closed and forgotten and sold. Um, certain death buried below a bunch of people's useless shit.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. And a bunch of TVs.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Uh and before we realized who Mike was, I was like, oh, just a red shirt Rando showing up. A nervous ass dude in a sports car. Because you gotta have more people to turn into zombies. But then finding out, oh, nervous weirdo is actually Naomi's ex, and part of me's curious about what this dude's whole deal with was, but like other parts of me, I'm like, you know what? I don't. It feels like too much. It's like he's showing up to her work because she won't answer his calls, and it's like, well, what kind of person is he? Because it seems like she's like my daughter's dad. Like, she's very much like this guy and me, we are not a thing. But then he's showing up. I have no choice but to show up at your place of work because you won't answer my calls. It's like, oh, so he's an absolute psycho.

SPEAKER_00

She did call him a hopeless man child.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Uh he shows up with a dead cat. Well, mostly dead. Uh because yeah, he opened up the the you know, it starts moving and he opens up the trunk and it's half of its head's missing as and I was like, what in the pet cemetery is going on? Uh I mean, obviously it's this fungus among us, but how? How did it get from the storage unit to the cat that Homem dude shot? Why is he shooting cats? What is wrong with him? So many questions.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know why he shot the cat, other than maybe he shot the cat because no, he didn't know it was infected.

SPEAKER_01

It didn't get infected till after it was dead.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I don't know why.

SPEAKER_01

Him shooting the cat was completely unrelated. If he wouldn't have shot the cat, it never would have got infected. Uh uh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So as far as I'm concerned, if he shot the cat, uh no, you're a fucker, not on board. Whatever happens to you, you brought on yourself.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I was like, what's what's wrong with that? So then the cat we see, you know, climbs up, impales itself, and explodes. Uh, gets goo on some deer and on Mike. And we know this transformate uh transformation will be quick. So yeah. Uh and then I like the little scene of like the time-lapse kind of quick thing of Yes. You know, all the years, you know, the fungus had just kind of been spreading and working its way out of containment. We saw how the Rat King happened. And I was like, how does it get to the cat? Uh and then I was like, oh, it's a fun little answer to that question with the time lapse. It's takes the containment breach to roach to card a dead cat pipeline. Should have known. It's a classic one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Everyone has done it.

SPEAKER_01

Also, I just had a little note that I was like, it is a problem that like all the uh people here that are likely to be or have been infected have guns.

SPEAKER_00

Like that's just that's never a good sign. It's never a good sign, especially because the fungus is evolving and it seems to be moving just from ex like let me explode to let me infect you by open your mouth so I can throw up in it.

SPEAKER_01

Like that was my open your mouth. I want to throw up in it. Uh I was like, Mike, that is the worst pickup line I think I've ever heard. You're you're not gonna get her back with that one, dude. I no uh then I was just like, well, now PSA, listeners, if take note here. If that line is on your list to try to woo someone, just go ahead and scratch it out. I promise it's not good. It's not gonna work.

SPEAKER_00

It's not gonna work.

SPEAKER_01

Don't do that one.

SPEAKER_00

Dating tips with Peg is a new feature that we're doing on the show.

SPEAKER_01

If you need dating advice from me, the one that we're gonna get for this episode, this week's dating advice, is open your mouth. I want to throw up in it. Don't use that line. Just I know it sounds extremely romantic, but just don't. It's it's not gonna work.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's funny because when they first went down to that cult, like to that containment before they see all these levers and different things, and then the Dymo label tape with like the embossed or engraved letters labeling parts of like the board for different components of what it does. I just thought, oh yeah, you know it's old when they're breaking that shit out because it moved away from that type. Like, Dymo is still a label maker that you can use in like office stuff. It's been, I think, 30 years since they were doing that. That one. Yeah. It's very old school. It looks very much like you would get in school to like label your locker or something.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. Uh yeah, then we get this mic, which again, like whatever, his sole focus wasn't even like spreading the disease by climbing or like going. He just had to get to Naomi. We have to get it to her, to them. It's like using that, like absolutely being obsessed and attached to her in a very unhealthy way, and it just latched onto that part of his brain and went like, okay, well, that's gonna be our main directive, but we'll use it this way. But he doesn't ever just like get to the point where he's gonna explode on his own. I mean, he probably would have got there in a while because he was getting um plump by the by the end there. Um I love when he walks into like the low-like room of bikers. What's wrong with him? He's got COVID.

SPEAKER_00

I love that. Oh my god. That whole part. Oh my god. Oh my god, what's wrong with him? He's got COVID.

SPEAKER_01

I I mean that Yeah, we've made it to the point we've gotten past the COVID 19 main pandemic lockdowns and stuff, to the point that those jokes are now perfectly timed. They're peak right now. And I love that we've made it.

SPEAKER_00

This was this was filmed in 2023. Like it was filmed. We were still kind of coming out of we were out of lockdown, but we were still dealing with like some things. I love that part. It was just it see it was like uh the girl that said it, I think I think it was um Cuba and the other girl was garbage, and that was honestly based on a girl in a movie called The Return of the Living Dead. Her character's name was Trash, and so they base garbage on that. Again, Return of the Living Dead, another movie we should do, and it's kind of got similar veins to this one as far as the comedy part of it. So I think it's one that we we should do. Nice.

SPEAKER_01

Um that's really it. I think that's all that I've got, other than just like some of yeah, all of the explodey goodness. I think Cuba's head exploding was a great like effect, a great shot. I don't know how much all of it was like CGI versus some practical. I don't know how it all like you know levels out, you know, percentage-wise of what was used each and each. Because it if it was I because I feel like especially with that one, I think there was some practical to that. Uh for sure. But like with some CGI touch up, but like even the CGI never felt bad or out off. Like it's it didn't take me out, it was very well done effects-wise.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it didn't take me out of the sh movie, like, which is a good sign that it's done well enough that it's not making me go, oh.

SPEAKER_01

And it's mixed with the right amount of practical when they can, and so I thought it was it was well done.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I like they called him Iron Head. He said, He's like, I think I'm fucked up. What was the first clue? You're a mess, buddy. A mess. You should have been out with the Rev, and you wouldn't even be in here now if you stayed out with him. Oh man. I like too that Abigail at the end, her name's Ashani. Um, she actually leaks the white paper and she goes to him and says, Thank you for reminding me why I joined. I want you know, and she he's like, to blow shit up. And she's like, No, to be there. You know, to to be, to do something. That's why she wanted to be a part of it. You know, she wanted to be that's why she joined the military. I'm trying to see if I have any other things. I feel like we've covered so all of my notes, really. I don't think that I really have much of anything. Oh, Georgina Campbell is in another horror movie that came out in February called Psycho Killer. That's another one that we might be able to cover.

SPEAKER_02

Alright.

SPEAKER_00

Um Lupita Niango, who is not in this movie, I'm always looking to see whatever she's doing and if it will fit in our genre because you know we are big fans of her. Um, so I have two things left. One is Travis was reading a book called The Body Snatchers when he was sitting at the desk. Another horror movie that we need to cover. And Johnny Campbell directed three episodes of a British zombie TV series called In the Flesh. It was two seasons. It's a great series. A lot of people probably don't even know about it, or um maybe you do remember it out there. It was on BBC America's where I watched it. It was a different take on it. It was basically people going back home. They were zombies, but they were also somehow brought back to life, and they were living at home, and there was such a stigma about you having a zombie in your house. They had to wear like makeup and contacts because no one wanted them around, and so they would try to hide. Um, it's really well done. Um came out not long after Walking Dead started, but it was a really great show. And Peggy, that's all I have.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, nice.

SPEAKER_00

Except for these five things that bring up.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Because there's five, yeah, there's five more things that I have.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_00

There's nothing else.

SPEAKER_01

The only one thing I've got left is this list of ten. Um yeah, perfect. Well, that was fun. It's good to get back to something new and fresh and prominent. I think as far as yeah, this is the first time either of us had seen it, was prepping it for this.

SPEAKER_00

So Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Good times.

SPEAKER_00

I like that. I like when we get to cover something neither of us have seen. And plus it being something new, it's fun to just to talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So yeah, we said like at the beginning of the episode, there's a lot of really great new stuff that fits in our genres coming out now or soon uh that we're excited to cover. I want I'm not gonna name anything, but you know what's been coming out recently or you know in the past couple of months. Uh and you know, uh, for listeners, if you've got stuff that's new, or even some old stuff if you want that you want us to to to cover or are curious about, let us know, and we can always add stuff to our plans. We love to hear from you guys and know what you want us to cover as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Speaking of hearing from you guys, there goes the uh feedback phone. It it hasn't missed a step, it knows what its role is, it knows what it's supposed to do. So get back to it. Alright, we got some feedback this week, so we'll get into that. A couple of uh write-ins here, so we'll check those out. Uh Daphne, go ahead and kick us off, if you will.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so these are both for cold storage. Catherine says, evil flubber. I wonder if cold storage was inspired by Stephen King's The Lonesome Death of Jordy Vero, adapted in the movie Creep Show. We still need to cover Creep Show. Teacake, Kough, Steve Kough, was awesome. I struggled with the deaths of so many animals, deer, cat, and yes, even all the rats. Yet I was fine with humans exploding. You know, I I share that thought, Catherine.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Ah, and then we also have one from Tony on this one. It says a silly and very gory movie. I thought this movie was a lot of fun. The opening scene was shocking because I love Soucie Bacon. Smile. I wasn't expecting her early demise. Liam Neeson is always fun to watch, especially in his sillier roles. Yes. He really is. I think in the main episode, I think I I mentioned the the naked gun, the newer naked gun that he did, because oh my god, it was amazing. Just perfection. And yeah, I love that he's just at that place now where he's just like, Alright, I've done the blockbusters, I've made the money, now let's take roles that are just fun. Let me just have fun.

SPEAKER_00

I think there comes that point where you're just like, I'm gonna do this because it's fun. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me, I'm gonna have a blast with it. I'm just gonna do it.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

So that is really cool. I think he's underrated in his comedy roles. You know, I think that people look at him from all of the action films that he's done, and then some of the like more serious roles. I don't think he gets enough attention for these. So there are a couple of ways that you can send us feedback. We have a channel on the podcastica discord, so you can join us there. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram at Run for Your Lives Podcast, or you can email us at RunFoyourlies Podcast at gmail.com. If you're enjoying the show, tell your friends we are available on all the podcast players, including Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and more. Go to RunFour Livespodcast.com for all the links that you're ever gonna need, and give us a review on Apple Podcasts as that is the best way to share the love and get us out there even more. We really appreciate it.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely we do. Of course, speaking of sharing the love, you know. Gotta give those shout-outs to things going on in the Podcastica universe around us and beyond. Lots of great stuff for you to check out. Of course, over here on Podcastica, the Walking Dead cast, continuing on with the Walking Dead Rewatch. So you can get season six, episode 12 this week. Jason, Lucy, and a guest on that one, so go check that out. So they're covering that, continuing on with the rewatch. Also, the uh Handmaid's Tale podcast has been covering Testaments, this first season of Testaments. You guys have been doing an incredible job over there with main episode coverage, feedback episodes, all of that. And so, yeah, you listen to feedback, extra mega size feedback for the finale this week.

SPEAKER_00

It's a super long one.

SPEAKER_01

And then over on Wax Episodic, Jason and Karen have been covering Severance, going back and covering that, hoping to get, you know, caught up, which they have plenty of time because we I don't think we even have a date for season three yet, officially. So still working on that, but it'll come eventually and they'll be ready when it is. But they are doing the rewatch or first watch on the podcast. But uh yeah, check out the severance coverage over there. Also, uh, for what is from, the uh from podcast. Uh a little bit back to usual style. Lizzie actually has a guest to join her uh this week, has uh Lisa on to discuss season four, episode six this week. So you can check that out over there on what is from. They've got that show with season four coverage continuing on. Uh Penny is joined by Mark this week over on Still Slaying as they continue on with the Buffy fandom and all the fun stuff there. Uh season five premiere coverage of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So that episode there. Check that one out over at Still Slaying. And then outside of Podcastica, again, there's also some great stuff we got to send you to to check out. Our good friend, speaking of Mark, over at the Pirate Core Entertainment Network. Uh lots of fun stuff over there. Kaiju Cast has cover uh you know has covered all of season two of Monarch, Legacy of Monsters, so they've got like a kind of recap stuff there to check out the whole season and thoughts on that. Mark and Dimitri, them both covering that, so check that out. And then over at TV Podcast Industries, um, friends over there, Derek and John, doing great stuff, a lot of comic booky stuff and superhero stuff. So, of course, Punisher, One Last Kill, came out a while back, so you can go check out coverage of that over there. They've had that ready for you. And then also Spider Noir over on Amazon Prime now with Nick Cage. Um I am I'm not fully caught up on it, but I've watched the first two episodes at this point, and I'm having fun with it. I'm excited to dive back in and keep watching some more. It's a really interesting concept. I love I'm I'm watching it in black and white. Watching it, that's how I'm doing it first, and then if I'm gonna watch it all that way, and then if I enjoy it enough that it it warrants a rewatch, I'll re-watch it in color and see what I find different there.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like you have to watch it in black and white.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, it's Noir is in the title. Yeah. You have to watch it in black and white.

SPEAKER_00

Uh The Walking Dead, the first episode in black and white.

SPEAKER_01

Um I feel like I probably have to be. It's very cool.

SPEAKER_00

It's even, I think, more impactful because it doesn't rely on color at all. It just relies on the characters and the dialogue and like the environment and atmosphere. Um I liked it a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the the noir style and like black and white stuff is in different like veins, because it's not always just like film noir, but yeah, uh, because I remember when Logan, the the movie came out, the the Wolverine movie, they released I have like the Blu-ray that has like the black and white version as well on there.

SPEAKER_00

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_01

So that's like really cool. There's like that. And then also like video games like the Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yote also have uh Kurosawa mode on there where you can play the game in black and white. And I haven't done that, but I I might have to check that out sometime because I know it's very cool. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like when they do things like that, you strip away the collar, you really get more of the assets of the story.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So there's always cool things. So yeah, anyway, all that to say, Spider-Noir. If you are watching that, enjoying that, or want some coverage of that, go to TV Podcast Industries for that. And then also, if you want more of me and Daphne, joined by our friends Jeff and Jerry, and all four of us being as ridiculous and goofy and silly and funny and dumb as we possibly can. We have a great blast with it. Oh, check out our Buffalo Buffalo podcast. Take a break from like covering things, and we're just hanging out, telling jokes, trying to make each other laugh, playing games, hanging out. Just come be a part of that. Come listen in and hopefully laugh along.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Play the games with us. It's fun to play along. Not all of them really work, I think, to play along, but a lot of them do. I feel like you know, the quiz quiz-type games that we play. I think those work really well.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

For you to play at home and see how you do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so check that out. And of course, right here for Run for Your Lives, you know, we'll be back for you next week with something different, something new. Uh maybe I just, you know, speaking of Jeff and Jerry, maybe there's something special there. I don't know, definitely, what do we got next week?

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, speaking of uh the other two pains in my butt. Here's what we have going on. When a drifter discovers a pair of mysterious sunglasses that reveal the hidden truth behind society, he uncovers a secret alien conspiracy controlling humanity through subliminal messages and manipulation. We are covering a John Carpenter's 1988 film They Live. We won't be alone. We are gonna be joined by the Jeff and the Jerry to talk about this one. And yeah, we're trying to get them on at least once a season so that uh you guys can be entertained by them as well. As much as they entertain me on Buffalo Buffalo.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so get four-person podcast next week. Come check that out.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it was fun.

SPEAKER_01

Give us your feedback and thoughts on that one too, if you've watched it or or do soon.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, that brings us to the end of another fun episode of Run for Your Lives. Thanks everyone for listening. I'm Daphne.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Pate.

SPEAKER_00

And if you have to run, you better run for your lives.

SPEAKER_01

Bye-bye.
