SPEAKER_03

You're listening to the Run for Your Lives podcast.

SPEAKER_07

Hey everyone, and welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm Pake.

SPEAKER_07

And this is Daphne's personal torture session. Oh, wait, no. This is the Run for Your Lives podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, but this week, that is apropos. Um, because we, you know, thought it was like, oh, we haven't had a guest in a little while. It's been a little bit. So we decided we're not gonna have a guest. Not a guest. You know what? We're not even gonna have two guests. Let's do let's let's jump into some unprecedented territory on Run for Your Lives and have three guests. Daphne, the guests outweigh and outnumber the actual co-hosts of this show now. We've lost control of the podcast. Um they have majority rules.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but my vote counts as four, so I have majority rule.

SPEAKER_03

Only yours, not mine. I only get one vote.

SPEAKER_07

No, yours also counts as four. But I'm afraid to have it that be the case because you'll side with them and gang up with me.

SPEAKER_00

100% gang up on me. Daphne, I don't I'm not sure if you're aware of the math, but if you're only four votes, we'll still end up tight each time. So you make better make yourself five votes.

SPEAKER_07

Thank you, Jerry, for the great idea.

SPEAKER_00

No addendums.

SPEAKER_03

No addendums. No addendums, okay. Yeah, so as you've heard, Jerry there, so yes, uh we we plug it every week if you've listened to our other podcast, Buffalo Buffalo Podcast. Jeff and Jerry are here, and they've been here a few times before. But then also we have our good friend from the Pirate Core Entertainment Podcast Network, Mark Kirkman, who's also been here before several times, but this is the first time all of them have been here together.

SPEAKER_07

I know. I think Mark is creeping up on being on the podcast the most. If he's not first, no one.

SPEAKER_01

We've really got to stop creeping. Don't be a creeper, Mark.

SPEAKER_07

Oh god. I'm trying to remind you guys this is not Buffalo Buffalo, it's Run for Your Lives.

SPEAKER_01

Anywhere we go is Buffalo Buffalo.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. And now that Mark is in the mix.

SPEAKER_00

It's Buffalo Buffalo on adrenaline. Bump bump bump bum bump bum bump. No, Jeff, it's since we're on speed, if we're on speed, bump up. It'll sound like the reverse version.

SPEAKER_03

I also haven't stated what movie we're doing yet, but does it really matter? It's it's not this has become its own thing. Um yeah, I don't know why Daphne decided to do this. Um I'm gonna have fun, but I don't think she will. And I can't guarantee that the listeners will I think you'll have fun, but it uh it will be a different kind of fun.

SPEAKER_07

Uh and you know what? Here's the surprise. I'm not editing around anything. This episode is gonna go the way it is. Whatever happens is happening. That's how it's getting released.

SPEAKER_02

Dang. Wow. You are Daphne's gorilla editing this particular podcast, everybody. Kind of like how I do an adrenaline cinema podcast.

SPEAKER_07

If you flub something up, it's on you. There's no retakes or redo's or restarts or any of that. No cutting around it.

SPEAKER_00

No, but what I what I was asking. So so if you're doing gorilla editing, does that mean we're doing one of the Planet of the Apes films? Because Mark and I have that next on another podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Mark will be doing some gorilla editing.

SPEAKER_03

Well, actually, you guys watched it and did your notes already, because we're just gonna segue from this movie into that one. It's just gonna be a two-parter. Sure. Uh no. But yes, uh like you don't know what movie we're covering, it's the title of the podcast episode. So if you are confused at this point, that's on you. Because you should have read what you were pressing play on. Um, but yes, this week we are covering the science fiction survival film The End of Oak Street, written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and released August 14th, 2026.

SPEAKER_07

Another new one.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_07

We've been doing a lot of new ones because this, as we've said before, has been a banner year for horror films. It's yeah, it's just been fantastic. They just keep coming, and there are more coming out before the end of the year. So I have a feeling next season is gonna be a lot of doing newer stuff because it's yeah, it's just a great year for it. Well, we're gonna get started. Not like we haven't already.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just starting up.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And I want the world to know.

SPEAKER_07

Thank you for that, Mark.

SPEAKER_02

I have to listen to it.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, so here are some production notes. Was filmed in Atlanta and Decatur, Georgia, and London, England. Regarding the story, Mitchell revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a few years ago he was walking through his neighborhood in Michigan and just walking down the street, and he passed by a garage that had a chain link fence and garbage cans. And it inspired him to think it'd really be interesting if there was a dinosaur right there. Well, you answered that question with this movie. He also directed the 2014 film It Follows. He's working on They Follow and also took inspiration from The Twilight Zone, Poltergeist, and Science. The score was written by the amazing Michael Gecchino, who directed Wereowf by Night and has scored a bunch of films we've covered before, such as Let Me In, Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, Dominion, and Society of the Snow. The budget for this one was 85 million. It grows to 121 million at the box office. 99 minutes long. Paik, give us a synopsis.

SPEAKER_03

Right. After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from the s from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discover that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.

SPEAKER_07

Lovely. I think that captures it well.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I did that all on my own. And by that I mean reading it on IMDb. I did go. I didn't need help reading it, and then copy and pasting it.

SPEAKER_06

That's what you usually do anyway.

SPEAKER_07

It's not a surprise.

SPEAKER_01

I plagiarized it myself.

SPEAKER_03

Oh by myself.

SPEAKER_07

Oh my god. Yeah, it was clear from the beginning that this family was putting on a show for the neighborhood when they were very dysfunctional and breaking down. And to me, the whole movie was about a family that's at odds coming back together and finding each other and bonding again. So let's kick this off. Who wants to go first? And by that I mean Jeff, Mark, or Jerry. Who wants to bring their first point to the table?

SPEAKER_01

I can go. I can go. I'm I've got at least one that I feel a good point that I have. I call this point more like a six-foot turkey. One of my absolute favorite parts of the movie was the fact that the dinosaurs were feathered. Um, you know, I mean, we we Jurassic Park wasn't necessarily like horribly wrong. The idea that dinosaurs had feathers wasn't a like hugely mainstream back in the 90s. It was kind of thought, maybe theorized, but it wasn't like as known as it is now. Uh the Velociraptors in particular were amazing. Um and they were very even like bird-like in their movements. Um, you know, the way they kind of hopped around. It was it was very different from the way, you know, Jurassic Park and, you know, that whole world and all that kind of thing uh does it, and it was really fun to see.

SPEAKER_03

I am gonna cut you off. I'm gonna be the dinosaur nerd, because that is one of my points. Thank you.

SPEAKER_06

Daphne likes too.

SPEAKER_03

Likes to force me at gunpoint uh to to go through the whole list of dinosaurs. So actually, um, for the time period of what that is, it is a coelophysis is the series word uh in this movie. Yeah. But yes.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, and if I may interject about the feathers, I think one of the reasons we didn't see feathers on the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park is that they were splicing things with the amphibian DNA, and that likely caused a mutation. Sure.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they're they're test tube dinosaurs.

SPEAKER_02

They're basically mutants in Jurassic Park. Basically, they're uh uh uh greeted monsters.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I will say that I don't know what I didn't check to see if there was a definitive answer on what the sauropods were. Um but they were a little weird because it was more like fur than feathers. I guess it was supposed to be kind of uh uh I'm trying to remember what they called it, but you know, like a light feather, you know. Um but you know, like down? Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little and but it was it was a little weird. I mean, the whole scene was a little bit weird. I didn't realize I was gonna be watching Dinosaurs mating when I, you know, walked into the movie theater, but and people taking selfies in front of us.

SPEAKER_07

Now come on, that was circa 1982 selfies.

SPEAKER_01

It was amazing.

SPEAKER_07

It involved the appropriate technology. It involved a Polaroid camera.

SPEAKER_01

It was fantastic. I loved it. It was it was honestly, it was it was a great scene to just kind of have a break from all of you know the horror that was going on. Uh to make you feel a little comfortable before what they were gonna drop on you in a little bit and then after that.

SPEAKER_02

But the humor.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So to speak.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Anyways, my overall point is just the design of the dinosaurs was really, really fun to see. It was a different take than what we've normally gotten uh in dinosaur movies over the last, you know, hundred years. Um and yeah, it was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, these were not Jurassic Park dinosaurs. They were definitely different, and I kind of enjoyed that they were different because I feel like we got to see dinosaurs that weren't even represented in Jurassic Park. They were they're it's like they looked at what was in the moon Jurassic Park and said, nope, we're not gonna do any of those dinosaurs. We'll do some that are similar, but we're not gonna do Velociraptors, we're not gonna do uh some of the others because we want this to be on its own and unique.

SPEAKER_02

They made it more ethereal, if you think about it. Uh I think they were more natural in the concept of what we think of dinosaurs are, uh, and on top of that, the natural instinct of within that time. So with the heat, because heat was a factor, uh the the environment, uh, we had snakes, uh, things that were set as prey, as being humans, we were they were prey as uh people, and then on top of that, uh you had the natural order of things from that time evolved within this world. And uh it was very uh it was very creative, very individual.

SPEAKER_01

Possibly the land before time with slightly meaner dinosaurs.

SPEAKER_07

Slightly little foot, no that brings up a really good point of humans were the top of the food chain, and then they suddenly were the bottom of the food chain. Because the apex predators were there to take over and put humans where they're supposed to be.

unknown

I guess.

SPEAKER_01

In their stomachs? Apparently.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

That's Daphne's opinion. Yeah. Daphne's official stance. We can't have buffalo stances because we're not on Buffalo Buffalo, but uh Daphne's official stance is that humans belong in dinosaur stomachs.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I won't argue it.

SPEAKER_06

Some humans do. Some humans do. Some humans they will not be named.

SPEAKER_01

Some humans when they if they were eaten by dinosaurs and pooped out, they would still be kind of similar to what they already were.

SPEAKER_07

Yes. I agree. Okay, so Jerry, why don't you go next?

SPEAKER_00

This movie hates cats.

SPEAKER_03

In this essay, I will.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that was yeah. No, but I would have to say this, you know, uh to uh not to uh put too fine a point on it, but this movie was uh Dino Mite, right, Daphne?

SPEAKER_07

You know, I remember when I went to see it, and then the rest of you went to see it like right after. It was one of the it was a movie that we all saw and could talk about a little bit because usually it doesn't work out that way because usually one of you hasn't seen it at all, and so the three of us who have seen it can go off in our own little chat and talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't think we even planned it. Yeah, it was unusual for me. I just I happened to be out off off of work that day um getting my car um checked out, and while I was waiting for my car, I was like, well, the movie theater's down the street. Maybe I'll just see what oh, that's right, end of Oak Street's playing, so I caught, you know, like opening day. So yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

We didn't even plan it. We all, I mean, I don't know about Mark did, uh, but at least for the Buffalo group that we we talked. Yeah, it's like we all just on our own went and saw it that opening weekend and was like we're just like, oh, we all did that without talking about it first? Cool.

SPEAKER_07

Let's Yeah, that's cool. Let's talk about the movie within reason because Peike and I don't talk about a movie before we podcast about it, but we did talk a little bit about it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It took me about three days to actually get to it at that point, and it was on my list because unfortunately, the vibe about it, the internet and the way they were. Uh, yeah, and this is a falsity based upon the movie and where it came from. We all thought Cloverfield. Now that is debunked.

SPEAKER_07

Well, anything that JJ Abrams is attached to in any capacity makes you think, is this part of the the Cloverfield universe?

SPEAKER_03

Because that was his track record. Was he do something, and then it was like last minute, like, oh, by the way, it's just part of that universe now. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, but what I was gonna say, just I like the uh the period setting of the 80s.

SPEAKER_07

Which is really cool because they did a really good job with the fashion and just the tech that was available and the cars and everything, the feel of it.

SPEAKER_01

Just you know, it just it looks so 70s, 80s home, you know, with like the wood paneling and yes, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

The set design, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's uh very a it's uh period appropriate.

SPEAKER_03

Period piece that then turned into a further back period piece.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, way back, machine.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um but one thing I one thing I should say is that um there was uh one uh one uh younger person. I didn't mention this when we were we spoke about the movie, but one person mentioned said, what was that thing she called, you know, called her husband on? And I was like, and and the parent tells her, that's a payphone.

SPEAKER_03

I thought that was just like a dressing room for superheroes.

SPEAKER_07

I didn't know that that was a real thing. It's a payphone, it's a real thing. That's a phone book.

SPEAKER_03

Theater experience for this one was really fun, so I love that we all had that. Uh, I told this story on Buffalo Buffalo, so everybody's already heard it, except for Mark. Um the people sitting right next to me when I went and saw in the theater was a couple with a very, very young child uh with them that was way too young to be in not real, probably really just most any movies, especially this one, to where the actual out loud question this little girl asked her dad was, why did they put catch up on the grandma? And I love it. It's one of those where it's like, oh, that sounds like a thing that you would make up for the little kid said because it's ridiculous. No, this kid was that actual age where legitimately, genuinely, the question that they had, what was the thought process in their head? At that point, it's just like this kid does not need to be in this movie. And then it turned into the rest of the movie being like, don't look at that, don't look at that, what's going on? Don't worry about it.

SPEAKER_01

Um playing as a hot dog.

SPEAKER_02

You know, the ones we get at Costco, where we're gonna go, and it's only five bucks.

SPEAKER_00

No, but my my last part on the uh period appropriate is that I remember a lot of 80s movies, there would always be this young preteen boy that was superbly irritating. And and I'm telling you that uh what's his name uh Brian? Brian? Just idiot doofus.

SPEAKER_07

Do not be talking about that Christian Convery played Brian. Like he Christian Convery did a fantastic job.

SPEAKER_01

Christian Convery was fantastic, and I love Christian, but yeah, yeah, Brian was in hand. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, because yeah, because Brian at that age, because it since it took place in 82, I was like maybe a year older. Yes. A year older, younger than him at this time. Perfectly well perfectly known for like the 13-year-old boys that I knew in my life. Right.

SPEAKER_03

It's like it's not a knock on the actor, it's a a good compliment. It's a point of like, yeah, it's he played kind of like obnoxiously irritating shit who couldn't get it together really well.

SPEAKER_07

Um Well, let let's just talk about his aim with the arrow.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. You mean his nerf arrows? Right. What is that gonna do?

SPEAKER_07

What he had with those arrows, he was a terrible shot, and yet his mother, she was bang on with that gun. She was she was on it. She should be the one always defending the family.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, no, it's like you're pointing out, it's good to see uh great to see Christian Convrie uh in this movie, but like also he's been in a lot of stuff we've covered lately, and just like I I like seeing him in more things. Uh, because yeah, our our little dear boy is growing up. He is.

SPEAKER_07

Yep, he is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Okay, so Mark, what do you have for us?

SPEAKER_02

Uh, first point, just to get it out there. I I thought it was great that with the family had to work together within the film without technology at a certain point, but had to develop their own ingenuity and creativeness within their time without power. Because during the 80s, you play board games, you're like, ah, I I I have no video games, ah, even to this day. Exactly, board games, and they had to like entertain themselves at certain points. Uh, the father's ability within his own engineering, and that's what he did for work. I thought it was amazing. Uh, as well with the the daughter's like eagerness to help with her capabilities, the only drawback was the son and his ri his resistance to stay in and wanting out was a challenge to the family. What a pain in the frickin' ass that kid was.

SPEAKER_01

Do you really think that you're gonna like stop the dog just you know took off. You really think that by the time you get down into the backyard out of the house, you're gonna be able to catch it?

SPEAKER_03

You know? It is one of those things like I've seen people kind of like complain about whatever. It's like, oh, and then you know, you gotta have the dumb kid that like leaves the house. It's like yeah, you would think that like the relative safety of the home, they would have stayed in there a little bit longer. But then I think back, you know, even Jerry kind of pointed out, it's like put yourself in the like that trope of that kid, and you're like, yeah, a boy and his dog. Like, I get it. He's that thought's not gonna occur to like self-preservation. He's like, that's my dog, and I'm gonna go. And then I guess the parents have to care about the boy enough to go after him, so it checks out.

SPEAKER_02

Once power is off, people can think outside of the box based upon their brain and skills and work together, and it's a family that was separated because all they were doing was separated, you know, even in the 80s at that time. Now, we're living in the new millennium, like in 2026. It's even worse. But factor in cut off all the power. What are people gonna do? What are people gonna, you know, build a skills that for themselves nowadays?

SPEAKER_03

So that's why it had to be a period piece for the 80s, because it's like if it if it happened today, then the movie would be over in 10 minutes. Um and they're all dead at the end.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. Uh it's like people can think outside of the box based upon their brain and skills, and I really think this works well based upon a discussion point. For the fact is, how would we live in this world? Now, I went to Boy Scouts, I became an Eagle Scout, I know how to do certain things still to this age, but I talk to people realistically in life, and they don't have any of those basic structure or skills. Do you guys have any of those? Minimal.

SPEAKER_00

Carpentry and gardening.

SPEAKER_07

I was a Girl Scout.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

I could build a fire.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I could do a fire, probably. It's been it's been a long time since I was in Boy Scouts, but I did I didn't go through years or so. Um so yeah, but honestly, the the the simple fact is that if I had to like run away from dinosaurs, I'm just going to stop. You know, I I'm I'm yeah, it's like you know what, being eaten is better than running. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And die and I'd be eaten. Cardi, no. You didn't want to run for your life.

SPEAKER_07

So that reminds me of when my sister told me, well, if there's a zombie apocalypse, we're coming to your house, and I had to tell her, no, I'm coming to your house because it's on a lake, it's secluded. That is where we need to be. Trust me, not at my house. Now in a neighborhood.

SPEAKER_01

But so it you have to, it depends on what kind of zombies we've got. That is true. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you have Dario Argento zombies that do go in the water as well. It's been forever since I saw a zombie.

SPEAKER_01

Or zombie too.

SPEAKER_07

Oh man. We have not covered those. I feel like Peak needs to be subjected to them.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, he does. Especially when you see a zombie punch a shark.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Oh, it's okay. That's the one, yeah. That zombie movie you're mentioning is the one with the worst eye exam ever. Right? Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Yeah, Paike, um, you think maybe that we're joking about these things that are in it? We're not. We're not joking.

SPEAKER_01

There's a band named after that movie called Fake Shark Wheel Zombie.

SPEAKER_02

There's also Hammer films, too.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Are you gonna make me? Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, no, I'll go.

SPEAKER_03

Either way.

SPEAKER_07

I have to pull up my note.

SPEAKER_03

Well, mine are my note. I look singular. My note. Uh but no, I kind of get that. I'll go because you're pulling up note.

SPEAKER_00

Um First note.

SPEAKER_03

But it was fun, because I actually I did that because yeah, usually when it's just me and Daphne on this podcast, I take way more hours than the movie is because I'm pausing and meticulously taking down all these like things to talk about and stuff. And with this, I was like, there's five of us, it's gonna be insane. People are gonna have other thoughts. I'm not doing that. And I here's a little look into my note process, though. Is because I start by like just writing down my thoughts on something to see what it turns into. And then we get this, which is, and the fun part of the way we're doing this episode, so many people with plenty of points. Not gonna worry about stepping on other points because I'm not taking any notes past this really. Maybe a few, but just things that I want to point out or want to talk about in general. I just get to watch the movie and then talk about the movie. I'll wing it. Why am I even typing this? This is nothing. I won't read this word for word of the podcast, except now I think I will, because it's become a weird meta commentary on commentary. But I should stop and pay attention to the movie because I didn't pause it, but I did see it in theaters. It's pretty fresh. Anyway, this was weird.

SPEAKER_04

Uh my god.

SPEAKER_01

It's brilliant. Oh my god, Pink. So is that your point?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, that was it. But I I did have So first is dinosaur list, because Daphne demands it of me. Every time we do something like that.

SPEAKER_07

You're the one who started it way back in the beginning. So it's you. You started it. It's your tradition. You need to do it.

SPEAKER_03

So it'll be one of my two points. Uh, is all of the movie uh all of the movies that are in this dinosaur. Uh all of the dinosaurs in this movie, um, mostly kind of-ish. What I could find online. Um so of course the big bad of the movie is the Allosaurus. And then we have the Coelophysis, which is kind of the bird, very birdish raptor type things that we see a lot. Uh, there is the Spinosaurus as well, messing with them while they're in the car. Uh, we get a little glimpse of the Ankylosaurus, we get the uh Camarosauruses, which is like the big ones that are, you know, hanging out at the house, uh, doing their thing. Um get a Stegosaurus, uh, we get a lot of pterosaurs, uh, the flying dinosaurs. We get like a Ornithocheris, we get a pterodactylus, which is the little tiny ones. Uh get some like pteranodons, uh small glimpse of those. Um also the ones that we really see a lot, like at the end, that are circling them when they're trying to jump into the portal off the sea uh off the roof. Is the Atropiognathus. Um get all those. We have uh the Garjania, which is like the very specific, it's in a order of the Ornoth Ornithosucusaurus, whatever. Uh those are like the alligator type things that we see in the house. Um we get a Sepionics. This is an eel guys. Um and then some theorize Therizinosaurus is in this. We don't see it, but there are theories that that's the one that is brushing up against the house that they're looking at through the window where it's just a mass of feathers against the window. Uh, because then going through a car wash. Right. Because uh so I I did watch a little video on somebody theorizing on that, and that's because you know they watch it against the like wall, and then to follow where it went, you don't see it, but then that's where they see Mel up on his roof firing shots at it. It doesn't attack him, and Therizinosaurus is actually an herbivore. So it's why they assume that that's probably what that was.

SPEAKER_00

Herbivores can still mess you up, though.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it would. But so yeah, that's that's pretty much that. There were compies in there too, weren't there?

SPEAKER_07

No, not compies, but another type of dinosaur that's related to compies.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

And Peg, what was that big monstrous snake thing?

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, and the Titanoboa. I did have that written down, and then I just skipped because I yeah, Titanoboa was there. And then also the uh megalo Kellys, chellies, uh whatever is uh the the likely culprit to what those giant turtles blocking the road were.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the the uh was the Titanoboa, you know, just a little guy. A little guy. Just a legal guy.

SPEAKER_01

Just a little guy who kept going.

SPEAKER_07

The fact that he c he came in the window, went down over the stairs, and was still going and could travel over its own body to go through the window. No, it's a nightmare. And it was so stealth. Like it was so stealth. You didn't even hear it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I I have to make that observation too. It's like, you know, the like the Allosaurus, you know, it would, you know, even though it's like it it didn't know it was restricted to the alleys, it was on the main streets. So it wasn't purely an allosaurus. It wasn't an allosaurus.

SPEAKER_06

It's an allosaurus, sorry. Allosaurus.

SPEAKER_03

So it's really good to to be around whenever you have sunburn.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. There you go. Okay, but you would you would think that they would be able to hear that thing sneaking up on somebody.

SPEAKER_03

That is one of the very funnels I did take.

SPEAKER_00

It's one of my things that's like, come on.

SPEAKER_03

The these biggest sneaky steps in the history of ever.

SPEAKER_07

It had a very big mouth. When it was gonna attack her, it it seems like oh it's just a head, and then all of those teeth. Man.

SPEAKER_00

It's a whole lot of yeah. It needs to see a dentist, though.

SPEAKER_07

Probably.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. What a what a dinosaur dentist being like an ornithontist?

SPEAKER_01

Oh no.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_01

That new movie coming out next year. Ornithodontist.

SPEAKER_07

Why the same people who brought you cocaine bear.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. No, the same people who brought you Velocipaster.

SPEAKER_02

Or cocaine raccoon.

SPEAKER_07

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

No, Cracoon.

SPEAKER_07

So you know that I love dinosaurs. What? So for me.

SPEAKER_02

What? I've never heard this dinosaur. I've never heard this before. This is news. Let us know.

SPEAKER_07

This was so cool for me because I got to see different dinosaurs than what I normally see in Jurassic Park.

SPEAKER_02

And anytime I get to see those aren't real dinosaurs though, Daphne in Jurassic Park. They're all mutations.

SPEAKER_07

I don't care. I love them anyway.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SPEAKER_07

So for me to have this, it was great to see a different perspective on dinosaurs. And to me, these were very I mean, they were incredibly threatening, much like most of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. But I I don't know. I was creeped out by some of them. Because I felt like they almost didn't look like real dinosaurs, but it's because I'm so used to the mutated dinosaurs. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

But they were almost too cartoony at times for me.

SPEAKER_02

Virile and well, they were more virile in a sense of grittiness to feel that they could be real for the time that they were around. And in comparison to where Jurassic Park, they were flawed, but too sleek at the time. Yeah, they were very like for Jurassic Park. And now as we are progressing in Hollywood as well as in like how archaeologists are looking at dinosaurs and how they are feathered, how they sound, how they look, uh the skin, feathers, scales sometimes. It's pretty cool, and I really like it. And to me, it felt a little bit more real visceral. And that to me was pretty cool about this movie.

SPEAKER_07

So tell me, who do you think is more stealth? A velociraptor or that big super slinky snake thing?

SPEAKER_02

Uh the super slinky snake thing is very more, very much like the anacona we got with Paul Rudd and Jack Black in that movie.

SPEAKER_07

We covered that this season.

SPEAKER_02

I thought that you guys did, but I watched it too and I had fun too because I love that particular film. And even though as funny as hell as it is, it kind of reminisces too back to the original Anaconda series. But the fact is, those are still unrealistic to this day, because even in those areas where they're found, they go for like 35 feet and could kill people, eat them whole at certain points. And this is more visceral and real to how these things actually attack and kill and eat. So I thought that is more true to what's going on in reality in life. Snakes are quiet. They're very quiet. They are very quiet. And yeah, and and like even gators are crocodiles, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, one thing I noticed about the when when the boa opened its mouth, you saw all the backward-facing, you know, spikes in the city. I love that detail. Yeah. Yeah. Great detail because that it's kind of like um how like the I think it's penguins and other uh other waterfowl like that have have the same kind of construction in their throats and in their mouths. So that way when they grab a fish, it just keeps on going only one direction.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Yeah, the the whole Titanoba sequence in the house was tense, uh crazy, really well done. So a big snake and a very sturdy bedroom door.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Yeah. I was, yeah, and and as I and what's her name? Um uh Denise was going to town with that knife. Yeah. Yeah. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

More s more slicing, more pulling, less stabbing. What are we expecting?

SPEAKER_01

Just as it's escaping, just plunge the thing in and hold the cut. It's the hole.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. You won't you're you're doing too much work. You don't really have to work that hard. Um well, and given that Greg had just died.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, what?

SPEAKER_07

I was really worried that someone else was gonna die because I wasn't expecting him to die when he did. Like I felt like we weren't going in that direction. They had given us this false sense of security, and then all of a sudden it was over. And and I just remember being in the theater with my jaw on. Me too.

SPEAKER_02

Same here.

SPEAKER_07

What have I just got to do?

SPEAKER_02

It's like his first it was like his leg by the knee, and you're like, oh, okay, he's fine.

SPEAKER_01

That's a flesh wound. I was like, oh, that's gonna be terrible. How is he gonna survive that? Yeah, yeah. Easy.

SPEAKER_00

He won't.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Now see, yeah. And the and the one thing I thought, it's like, well, it looks like the Allosaurus had the high ground because he like took off the lens. It's over.

SPEAKER_03

It's over, Greg. I have the high ground.

SPEAKER_00

But the uh but I have to say, like, if you when you hit the you know, the Allosaurus with a sledgehammer, keep hitting. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Double tap. Double tap.

SPEAKER_00

That I always no decahedron tap for all I know.

SPEAKER_02

Or just like, yeah, if you have a machete, just go for the jugular and just go or blind the thing at the very least. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_07

Because he punched it with that sledgehammer, and I'm like, good, but hit it again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Why are you turning your back on it? Yeah, no, it's three inches from its mouth.

SPEAKER_06

No, no.

SPEAKER_00

Here's the thing, too. It's like I I I saw that happen at the shock, and then it said, dumbass. So I just keep hitting it.

SPEAKER_07

Such an idiot. Such an idiot. You know, we have not covered Zombieland yet. Oh my goodness. On this podcast. We haven't. There are a lot of really good ones we haven't covered. We're, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Even more terrible ones that we haven't covered, but we still might not. Oh, there's more I could tell you. Trust me.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, so my point is this. There were a lot of secrets that the family members were keeping from each other. And each of them had a secret. Greg's was that he lost his job. Yes. Denise's was that she was writing a book, and it seemed very close to home, the story, because the person, the neighbor who was proofing it and giving her feedback mentioned catch up grandma.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Catch up grandma. Mentioned things that Denise kind of, you know, pushed back and said, Oh no, no, it's just a story. It's not real. Well, it was real. You know that it was real.

SPEAKER_01

You know she wanted to go and it's just a story about a couple named Renice and Dreg.

SPEAKER_07

Brian's was that he broke a kid's arm, and the neighborhood boy, his brother, wanted to kill him. And Aubrey, Audrey's was that she wanted to go to college. She wanted to go to Cornell, she wanted to do things, but sh financially it wasn't doable.

SPEAKER_03

And the whole underlying sub-story of the fact that she was into girls was in the movie as well.

SPEAKER_01

I did appreciate how kind of subtle it was.

SPEAKER_03

It was, but it was I thought it was very well done. Yes.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. And little by little, as they're going through the film, the secrets start to come out. And not at the most opportune times. Like they it's not like they sat down around a campfire and told all their secrets. No, it was during these high stress situations. Like Brian is running from bullies earlier on, and then we see the bully brother beating him up in the middle of where a dinosaur could come out and bite them all to death. Like any of that could happen at that time.

SPEAKER_01

It's like, I get it, dude. You're upset, but like maybe now's not the time. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Well, and his brother was trying to pull him off, the one that had the broken arm.

SPEAKER_01

It's like, stop screaming.

SPEAKER_06

No, this is it's a really bad idea.

SPEAKER_07

It's a very bad idea, of course. We go to that statement often on this podcast. I do think though that Denise the filmmakers show Denise in a really strong like the strength of her character and how she is starting off where she feels detached to basically kind of falling in love with her husband again as they go through this very stressful situation. She kept the secret in the basement where she was typing and writing, and he admitted he knew that she was writing the book and he had read it, so he knew that part of it, and then she also found out that he had lost his job. But the fact that she goes through this movie and everything that they're facing, she gets stronger and stronger. And it's like her survival instincts kick in, especially after Greg dies, and she sees the the dinosaurs eating him, basically. And she just kind of backs the kids and gets them out of there to keep them safe, knowing there's nothing more that she can do. When it was incredibly hard for her to lose her husband. And you realize that this fractured family has come back together only to lose Greg at that point, and she's so determined to get them out of there. He even says to her, Go through the portal, and I'll go get the kids, and she won't leave him. Whereas I have to wonder if it had happened the day before or like six hours after we meet them, if she might have gone through the portal because she she wanted more, and they don't give us anything on her backstory as far as well, when did they get married? But they do show us that they've put on the This facade for the whole neighborhood that they're this happily married family. I also loved when she had the interaction with the neighbor who threatened the dog, and then she said, If you so much as point a gun at my dog, I'm gonna burn your house down. And I love that because what is more mama bear than that? Like she was she was really strong, and I get the feeling that she kept that in check and restrained herself most of the time, but that she's fired up and pissed off about some things. And I like that we get to see kind of her character change throughout the movie.

SPEAKER_01

Cool. I do like the idea that Mel apparently legitimately thought that the dog left that turd in his yard.

SPEAKER_00

You mean the one the size of a sofa?

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And he's like, this must have been your dog. Yes. Mel, it's bigger than him.

SPEAKER_07

Um, it made me think of the trike seed in Jurassic Park.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, absolutely, me too.

SPEAKER_07

And then I also thought of uh Jurassic Park 3 when the foam was in a pilot. Oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So uh we're back, Jeff.

SPEAKER_03

We're back. We left. We're back. Where did we go?

SPEAKER_07

We are back around to Jeff.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I'm gonna skip ahead. Let's talk about that ending. Yep. Did I take yours? Well, we'll join we'll we'll join forces on this because you're the next one up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's my second point, too, is just the time loop.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's a jumbo jumbo thing to talk about. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

The time uh the wibbly wobbly timey whimey stuff. Yeah. Exactly what I think.

SPEAKER_01

Very wibbly wobbly timey whime.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Yep. Um we can start with the fact that Denise condemned her other self to death. Yeah. I call them Family Bee.

SPEAKER_03

There's so many questions because I'm like, well, they didn't come back and stop themselves that version. So it's multiversal, it's different realities. Yes. So is it just an ongoing thing where different versions of Greg keep dying in different dimensions, but then the other family comes back to save that new Greg in another reality?

SPEAKER_00

Because the way I have it written here is because I wrote it down and said, like, okay, family B, the one that where Greg B came uh you know, Greg uh 2.0 gets taken from. So Denise A takes Greg B away and away from family B. So what happens to family B? So most I think most of them.

SPEAKER_01

Family B, we know, got zapped back to prehistoric. Yeah. I mean, well, okay, I suppose we don't know, but you know, since they aren't around, you know, later, we can assume that they were.

SPEAKER_03

But now Greg's not there, so what happens to them is different.

SPEAKER_01

Almost certainly they died. Yeah, so they became dinner nuggets.

SPEAKER_00

Because at that point, yeah, at that point, Denise gets eaten on that porch. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And then assuming everything else stayed the same, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But then the one thing that, you know, uh so when Denise has that photo and she shows she shows Greg B, he's gonna ask, how do I get how did I get into the foreground of dino porn?

SPEAKER_03

I do like that they did that with with saving him.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because it it gave you the opportunity to do that twist where it was like, okay, we get to shock people by killing Greg, because I mean it pulled the air out of the theme. Oh, hell yeah. Absolutely. Nobody saw that coming. And so it was like, we get to do that to the audience and then still have a happy ending.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like you could see it happening, you know, where it's like right at the climax, you know, when they're in the uh woman's house, the librarian's house, you know, you could see, you know, Greg getting attacked there, and then they have this tearful goodbye kind of thing right before they go in the wormhole. That would be the traditional trope. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but for this to just be like in the middle of everything, just like, and he's gone. Just just there he goes. And see then, go ahead, Jeff. No, you go ahead, because I'm gonna take it back to my point to the ending.

SPEAKER_00

So me too.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Um, so the Jeanettes. That's where I was going.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's two Jeanettes at the end. It was like, well, both kids had a crush on her, so everyone meant.

SPEAKER_00

Not sure how the parents feel about like uh Hey, we Yeah, we have identical twins now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, exactly. Hey, mom, dad, me, I need you to get out of here. Uh the other question is what would she say?

SPEAKER_01

Because she had minutes, like a couple of minutes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm surprised she even was able to get to her house in that amount of time, but let's just say she did. Yeah. Um just just go with it. You have literal m maybe two minutes to convince your family that they're not insane. You really are their daughter from another timeline, and they need to get out of the house right now, or else they're gonna get zapped back to prehistoric times.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Get outside the get outside the sphere that went, you know, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. That would have been really messed up if she was like, no, you could leave, you could leave your daughter, because uh, I'm I'll replace her.

SPEAKER_05

I heard.

SPEAKER_00

You stay behind. But I wish we would have got that perspective of Jeanette running toward her family, you know, to her family saying, Hey, come with me right now. Come with me if you want to live.

SPEAKER_07

I think though, Denise, what she pulled off, I mean, it was certainly a strategy. Um but she didn't stop at Greg, she saved some other people too.

SPEAKER_01

That was an interesting reveal.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she saved Mel, and I was like, the fact she knew Mel's phone number by heart, I don't know that.

SPEAKER_01

This is the 80s. You knew everybody's phone number. Even the guy who made this, you know, that was the thing. It was very different kinds. Yeah. You know, you knew everybody, anybody that you wanted to talk to, I mean, yeah, you had your address books and written down, but your friends, your family. Yeah, it's like people don't know their own phone number.

SPEAKER_02

That is true.

SPEAKER_01

I have literally done that before. Where I'm like, what's my number?

SPEAKER_03

We my my dad's house hasn't had a landline working in God knows how long, but I still remember the the landline phone number before cell phones existed that I had as a kid. I remember. Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Me too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and it's really stupid.

SPEAKER_07

I remember the the number to the pizza shop that I loved and built for.

SPEAKER_02

I remember the uh the weed guy from Laughing Dark Studios that my boss said, hey, uh if somebody asks for a Chinese restaurant, yeah, uh don't give them that number, don't let them use that because that's Jeff. And sorry, Jeff, but yeah, he his name was. I don't want to call any of this.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Which you know, it did make me think though, you know, both with Jeanette and with Denise. Well, and especially like Denise with Mel, what would you say to Mel to make him think that this isn't a prank? You know? Because it seems to me like he would be like, no, this is you know, that's bullshit. This is whatever you said, even if you were like, because obviously you're not gonna say, you know, hey, you're about to get zapped back to prehistoric times, that you know, that just gets people hanging up on you, especially at three in the morning. Um, but you know, say whatever, a gas leak or something like that, I still feel like Mel would have questioned it so much. You know.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. I mean, it wasn't out of the ordinary that she saved the other people. Like that, I feel like absolutely. They were people who were kind and supportive. But Mel, that's what really shocked me.

SPEAKER_01

I did like the interview with Mel where he's like, I have to like her now. She takes real life.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the the sci-fi element, the time and dimensions multiversal stuff is interesting. Not a twist I expected to see, even though like from the beginning, yeah, we get like the little news story about like some weird stuff going on, and then we have like the small little, and it's I love that like what the uh Audrey, the the daughter, just like pretty much lays out the whole plot. She says, like, well, it could be, and then just nails it all 100%.

SPEAKER_01

Um it's pretty clearly a wormhole, and here's what happened, and we you know, but it like starts small, just like you know, swapping out plants and poo-poo piles.

SPEAKER_03

Uh and then eventually, just pretty quickly, the whole neighborhood.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, exactly, right?

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, there's a lot of questions. I'm like, I can't get bogged down in the multiverse stuff of it because I it'll hurt my brain.

SPEAKER_01

It's just flavor.

SPEAKER_03

But it's like, okay, so she calls Greg to get him to order to deliver a pizza. So we saved him, but also perfectly, she's like, but I'm also condemning my other version and my kids to die so that I can reunite with him.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that's not being very nice, Denise.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_07

She didn't want to share. Self-care.

SPEAKER_03

No. Don't send yourself back to the prehistoric times to get eaten by a dinosaur.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It's an interesting thing, though, like later on, you know. So how did you two meet? Well, this version of me. Anyways, that was just my point, just kind of in general, is talking the whole. Honestly, it was the part that I had to kind of like look into the most because I was like, okay, what happened here? Exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Let me get out the red string. We're gonna fix it.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna beautiful mind this thing. You want the blue pill or the red pill?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, Jerry. What do you have for us?

SPEAKER_00

I was tied in with uh Jeff's point.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Anything more to add? I got nothing, Mark.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, Mark.

SPEAKER_02

Well, alright. So uh within this movie, as I was watching it, it gave me a lot of feels from Stephen King's Under the Dome. Because at the very end of the movie, we see a dome-like kind of encompassing of the township of where everything happened. And I'm like, oh, okay, so this is a land before time showing up in rural suburbian 1980s, and everybody who is from those 1980s are interacting with whatever. So, and then it kind of dawned on me because about six months ago, three months ago, uh, three to six months ago, I started watching a show called La Brea that only lasted three seasons.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah, I heard of that.

SPEAKER_02

Very similar to that where they were zapped into a different timeline where it was the same area, but people from present day were able to communicate, and even them from the past that were traveled to the past were able to communicate with the people in the present, which is really weird, on top of that. And I thought it was really, really cool. Uh, I just like that whole premise that they are stuck within a certain time, and on top of that, they did that within the film where they actually called Greg to deliver a pizza at a certain point at the end of the movie to meet up with them outside because they were a day before the incident.

SPEAKER_07

And they were 20 minutes before.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally. And they were able to get out at that given point to work that out, which is something they didn't do within the library, everybody. Everybody is like left on a cliffhanger. Sorry. If you haven't watched it, go watch it. It's fun just to watch the first two to three seasons, or what, two and a half seasons, I guess. And to me, I was just like, oh man, they could have continued this. It was great, but it gave me those feelings. But uh the death of the father and the tireships outside, and the family getting him to deliver the pizza at a different location to meet him. Seeing the aftermath of what happened, to me, it was like whoa, mind-blown. And it's a bubble in time that they escape. The father from the past and the wife and the children from the future all together at once. I thought this was really cool, but there is no paradox within this time shift. Usually there is a paradox that happens where people go blah blah blah and they all get all crazy wazy and everything, within particular sci-fi and fantasy and stuff. Uh, but there wasn't anything. Um and of originally, like I said before, uh a lot of people were speculating, just as I was, because you know, yeah, JJ Abrams. Uh, this was supposed to be a clover film. Well, it it wasn't. But nothing was confirmed, the film except uh except for certain Easter eggs that revolved around the original Cloverfield movie from way back when uh with TJ Miller and everybody else. But I'm looking forward to because they keep talking about a Cloverfield sequel to that original film.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they've been doing it forever. I don't know. Yeah. Seems like it's gonna happen, then it doesn't. Then it oh, it will, and then it doesn't, and then it won't, and then maybe, and then it will, and then it won't. Until somebody actually AIs the crap out of it and they make it, you know. Then I want nothing to do with it at that point. Exactly, right? It's like we don't want that.

unknown

No. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I guess yeah, the paradox thing. Yeah, anybody that would have all other versions of themselves and paradox sent them off to die. Except Jeanette. There's the two Jeanettes. That's the one that's really Exactly. How do you how where do you go from like that forward? Oh, is that your twin sister? Kinda. Twinsies! You just have to be like, yeah, we're twins. I didn't have twins. I'm Jeanette, and this is Jeanette. Hold on, we have the same thing with Queen, same DNA.

SPEAKER_02

It's okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. One of us is gonna have to change our name. I don't Jeanette, too. No.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the nice thing is if you know either of the Jeanette's ever needs like a transplant, an organ transplant, you know, she's got a backup.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know she's got a perfect match.

SPEAKER_02

A clone.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_07

Pake.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_07

Do you have another point, or was that all tied into Jeff and Jerry's?

SPEAKER_03

All in there with theirs too. Uh I'm sure I've got like random notes, uh, mainly just uh Starbuck, the goodest boy. We haven't talked about the dog really.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, he was so he came in at the right time.

SPEAKER_01

You you could have been gooder and not left. Yeah, there is that. Uh-huh. Did you say Starbuck?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that was the name of the dog.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god. He was named.

SPEAKER_07

It's very 1980s. Yeah, he was named. Yes. Everybody's the original, yes.

SPEAKER_03

I was thinking, isn't that more of like a it's it's not a Moby Dick reference, is it?

SPEAKER_02

No, it's not.

SPEAKER_03

No. There's a captain there's another like nautical tale Starbuck as well. That I'm that's somewhere in my brain.

SPEAKER_07

I'm quite sure that a 13-year-old Brian was definitely watching Battlestar Galactic. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm sure Katie Sakkoff out there is like, oh, they're talking about me. And like, no, this is from the 80s. God damn it. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

I will say, I think the only CGI moment that took me out of it that I was like, okay, I will complain about that one, is the but then it's like it's whatever you can do, but is Starbuck versus the Tropyognathis, uh, where he's like jumps up on it and then gets thrown to the ground. I was like, okay, that looked terrible. But other than that, I think most, but then the rest of it, like a lot of the effects, because they used practical or stunt or kind of seamless effects a lot when they could, uh, that looked really great. And then even like the CGI of a lot of the dinosaurs was pretty well done. Uh so overall, I thought a lot of the effects and stuff were done really well. I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_01

Honestly, one of the things that helps me with you know CGI, uh, you know, like not great CGI or whatever, is I just picture in my head the deer from walking down.

SPEAKER_04

I just keep talking about it.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm like, this is so much better to match.

SPEAKER_03

And then they see a deer, but I think it's a ghost.

SPEAKER_01

That was so like like we are you you reached back 15 years in technology to do that.

SPEAKER_03

But I don't know if I've ever seen very many good CGI deer in anything. So I've had this theory that like deer are just somehow really hard to animate that way.

SPEAKER_01

To animate, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I don't know. I think the one that was in um Trained Busan was great.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Was a good one. So my point is a small one. My next one, my only other one, actually, is hey kids, when we didn't have Google, this is what we had to do. We had to take a Polaroid and go to the library and get a book and talk to the librarian to find out what book it would need to be and what it actually is. Because librarians know a lot about a lot of things, and we couldn't just go Google it. We had to physically go in and look it up.

SPEAKER_00

Or use things I would just not know. Very different.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or or in that in that time use an encyclopedia.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, what's that? You have a set of encyclopedias, yeah. You know, which they sell door to door.

SPEAKER_02

What's the Dewey Desmo system? What the hell is that about?

SPEAKER_05

Jeez.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. I thought that this movie really captured that time period, as we talked about earlier, with the simple things and how things really were in the 80s.

SPEAKER_04

And you had and good music.

SPEAKER_07

But I one moment that took me out of it is they used the song Valerie by Steve Wynwood, and I didn't know that it was actually he did it in '82 because the version I knew was in '87 and it was a remix re-release, and it sounded yeah, that's the version I knew. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Interesting.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. So that was like, oh, okay. I was wrong and right because she was an early fan, early adapter.

SPEAKER_03

She was on it before.

SPEAKER_07

So that is my last point. I may have some notes. Does anybody else have notes that they want to go through?

SPEAKER_01

I have one small uh complaint, um, which is uh now I'm trying to remember, was it also the allosaurus that attacked the car?

SPEAKER_03

That was the Spinosaurus on that one.

SPEAKER_01

That was the Spinosaurus, that's right, yes. There were several ankylosauruses right there, and the dinosaur decides to go after these tiny little scraps that are hidden in a metal box. And it's like, yeah, but you know, you've got A bigger meal right next to you. And I I know obviously they've got a you know good defense system, but still it it's like it just it those things always strike me is when you know whatever monster insists on going after the tiny thing instead of the much, much larger thing that would actually satisfy it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Uh one thing on uh tagging on to that point is that in that moment, you know, like when they got shoved into the house, it started a fire.

SPEAKER_07

No time to put it out. Like you couldn't put it out.

SPEAKER_00

With what water pressure?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But here's the thing, it's like it started a fire that started the entire neighborhood on fire, so thereby it's starting a clock because you you have nowhere to go because they try to drive away as if there's nothing out there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I like that that kind of then set the like undertone of like something hurry. The the hustle of the rest of the movie is like now we're on a time crunch, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because your cover is literally burning away.

SPEAKER_03

So a lot of those dinosaurs are very nice to like not break like the windows and glass paneling around the doors and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

That's thoughtful. Yeah. They did board a lot of that up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But at first, like I like that like Celophysis that's chasing them, and then the kids finally let them in. And then you can like see it through the like window at the door. Yes. Like, and then it goes away. And it was like, good thing you didn't think to just break that and only hit the door. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Out of sight, out of mind.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and what you said earlier about like the Titan Boa, it's like those things, and I was looking it up during while we were talking about, we talked we were talking about it, and it's like, it's just estimated based on what bones they'd found, um, and using a proportion of an anaconda, it would be roughly 50 feet long and roughly 1700 pounds. So you know, it's like you gotta think, you know, those that construction, especially when when the entire weight of the thing is on on the floor and and bumping up against the door, is like very well, very well constructed stuff in that in that time zone. 50 feet long is pretty insane.

SPEAKER_07

We've talked a lot about kind of humorous things, and and I want to point out one scene that I thought was seemed really genuine and there was a lot of emotion, and that is right after Greg dies, and Denise is freaking out in shock, in shock, and trying to hold it together, and it's impossible. Like she's just trying to do this herself, and she says, Did you see what what that thing did to your father? And then he very almost quietly he's in tears, and he says, Yes, and that's what gets through to her, and she's like starts to come back to Earth because she was an erupt, she was a volcano that was gonna erupt. And then the way he said yes, it it just came off as very genuine to me, that whole scene.

SPEAKER_01

Very young, like it wasn't the the with the attitude that you get, you know, from you know, 13-year-olds where it's like I'm too cool now, this kind of thing. Yeah, it was very much a young boy's response.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it's almost like Ann Hathaway and Christian Confree are good actors or something. Man.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if I go back. Yeah. I mean, only one of them has an Oscar.

SPEAKER_07

For now. For now. Give him some more time.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

I also think that one of the reasons why they kind of grew back together is that everything was stripped away. And they were faced with life and death decisions. And they had to lash out and talk about things versus the bottling up that they were doing before. They they just let it out because they were so like on edge and raw that they just they couldn't hold it back anymore. They were just throwing it all out there, not at the right time either. But I think that's one reason why they grew back together is they they had to survive, and that kind of had to be the priority instead of all the little secrets they had going. Yeah, that's all I have. Does anyone have anything else?

SPEAKER_02

I'm pointed out. I'm all out. Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Well, thanks guys for joining us for this episode. Uh, Mark, can you let people know where to find you?

SPEAKER_03

Home address, please. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, home address. Right. Uh all you have to do is go to piratecoreentertainment.com. And you can find me there for Adrenaline Cinema Podcast, uh Panels the Pixels Podcast, the uh geez. Wow. The Vamp cast and the Piratecore Music Podcast as well.

SPEAKER_07

Uh there are more stuff And don't and don't forget your monster podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Kaiju Cast podcast is also there as well. I have to put that on the actual network.

SPEAKER_03

Uh we love to give a lot of love to as well that is on your network, but you're not hands-on with and don't do stuff with, of course, is the What's On Tonight podcast that does a lot of incredible stuff as well.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, yeah. We'll we'll be doing and covering Crystal Lake when that comes out in October. I'm excited for that. Uh Gavin, who had done the music for The Pit, he's gonna be doing the music for a podcast. That's cool. For what's on tonight podcast for the Crystal Lake cover.

SPEAKER_07

Oh my gosh, that is so cool.

SPEAKER_02

I have to send him out a melody line, but I I'd rather him do all the music, but I I I love his work.

SPEAKER_07

That's fantastic to get to do that.

SPEAKER_03

So and he's only worked on a multi-time uh Emmy award-winning show, so exactly. Yeah, oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm telling that, we'll be back with Dexter Resurrection season two with that uh because uh Becky and Mandy want to do that. And there's so much other stuff. Just go to powercoreentertainment.com, follow us, and go from there.

SPEAKER_07

Excellent. And Mark, we'll have you back. Probably you and Dimitri to talk about Godzilla minus zero at some point, probably next season.

SPEAKER_02

Awesome.

SPEAKER_07

Because it's not coming out till um our season will be over by the time it comes out. So we'll have you guys come on next season to talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

And everybody check out Kaiju Cast when me and Dimitri get back together. It's been a while since Monarch Season 2, Legacy of Monsters. So we're gonna come back and have a little fun, talk about what he's doing on his YouTube channel, and our favorite kaiju. So check that out.

SPEAKER_07

I don't think that you can find two bigger kaiju nerds than you and Dimitri.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, that is true.

SPEAKER_07

I think the two of you, the amount of knowledge that you have, it's endless.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. It's gonna be fun.

SPEAKER_07

You can find Jeff and Jerry. You want to know where you can find them.

SPEAKER_02

Buffalo Buffalo.

SPEAKER_07

We'll tell you at the end of this podcast. Buffalo Buffalo.

SPEAKER_02

The small state of California. Or adrenaline cinema podcast.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah. Jerry's on adrenaline cinema a lot.

SPEAKER_02

And so is Jeff.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Thank you guys for coming on.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Thank you for having all all of us.

SPEAKER_02

Was it a lot of punishment for you?

SPEAKER_07

Always. Always. And I'm gonna have five days of it in about three weeks. I know that. Yep. Yep. Less than three weeks now.

SPEAKER_01

Just 24 five. Buffalo, Buffalo.

SPEAKER_03

Cool. It was great having you. Feedback phone. Yep. Get out of here. I gotta answer a phone call. See what people thought. Wow. All right, then we do have some feedback for this week, so we will get to that. I'm excited to do that. Uh, but before we get it to end of Oak Street feedback, well, first, once again, I know we said it just a little bit ago before we we let them all go into the ether. Uh, but you know, once again, a thanks to Jeff, Jerry, and Mark for being here for this episode earlier on. That was so much fun to have the gang all here. Uh it was great.

SPEAKER_07

It was, yeah. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

But then also, first, before we get to the feedback for this movie, uh, we do have one little piece for last week's uh Daybreakers on Discord. Daphne's brought it up before you got the Discord uh channel on the podcastica server that you can go check out. And so somebody uh with the Discord username uh Face. So don't know who you are past that, but um thanks for for commenting and reaching out on the Discord, uh, who says about Daybreakers. I was surprised by daybreakers, having never heard of it, like Pake. Really interesting premise and decently done overall. It's on Rakuten TV. Rakutin's uh for free. If you're in the UK, it's a UK thing that I am not familiar with, but if you are in the UK, then maybe you are familiar with it. So there you go. It's there to watch if you haven't. Uh also says, uh PS, great podcast, guys, very slowly catching up on the old ones, which is awesome.

SPEAKER_07

Thanks for the backlog.

SPEAKER_03

We've got some fun stuff in there.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Feel free to send us um any feedback on any of the previous episodes. We're always interested to hear from everyone. So moving on to the end of Oak Street, Catherine says, Dinosaurs! That was my response to Catherine. I absolutely love the end of Oak Street. I'm hoping you break down all the different species.

SPEAKER_05

Hmm.

SPEAKER_07

I like how they I like how they didn't immediately show us the dinos, instead, showing the effects of them crashing through the backyard, a shadow, a claw, a tail, and of course, all the poop. The family was great, and I definitely cried when Starbuck saved Brian and Greg delivered that last pizza. I was a little surprised Denise called Mel too, but I guess being ripped apart in another timeline is enough punishment for threatening Starbuck. I wasn't expecting so much comedy, but it was perfectly placed. I would also want a picture with the mating brachiosaurs if that's what they were. Christian Convri continues to impress me. His realistic breakdowns and yes, after the Allosaurus attack broke me for a bit. Greg should have double-tapped again, right? The references to Cornell did not age well, but after Audrey took on Dinosaur, she could take out a few frat pros.

SPEAKER_03

Uh, and then lastly, Connor writes in and says, Can't wait to check this one out. I missed it when it was in theaters. Also, since it's the same director, can you tell me your brief thoughts on It Follows? I don't think you've done that one yet. Uh, to which Daphne responded on uh Facebook to that one that yes, we did include that ages ago, as she said, uh, episode 86, which yeah, it's been a while. So you go back to that one. Uh, so hopefully he did and go check that out. So anybody else is wondering. Once those thoughts on It Follows, then yeah, episode 86 of Run for Your Lives, we did cover that. And they follow is in the works. So that should be coming out down the pipeline sooner soon enough. So I'm sure we'll get to that one too.

SPEAKER_07

We definitely will. Well, you can find us on the Podcast Discord server on the Run for Your Lives channel, so check us out there. You can submit your feedback on Facebook and Instagram at Run for Your Lives Podcast, or you can email us run for your lives podcast at gmail.com. If you're enjoying the show, tell your friends we are available on all the podcast players, including Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and more. As always, you can go to RunFo Your Lives Podcast.com for all the links that you're ever gonna need. And give us a review on Apple Podcasts, as that is the best way to share the love and get us out there even more. We really appreciate it.

SPEAKER_03

We absolutely do. And of course, speaking of sharing the love, you know I gotta give those shout outs to the things going on in the podcastic universe around us and beyond. A lot of stuff for you to check out, uh, listen to in the meantime during this week before we come back next week. Uh over on the Walking Deadcast feed, uh, of course, Crystal Lake coverage now there. Uh there's actually two episodes that they've dropped over on that feed this week for you to check out. Um Jason, Nathan, and Jamie getting together on that podcast. So the first episode they released, of course, discussing the first two Friday the 13th films, getting some background on the series a little bit, understanding there, and then of course the first two episodes of the show of the series, uh, Crystal Lake covered in an episode as well. So you can go check out that. So they've got an episode on the movies, and then starting the series with another episode, so you can go check that stuff out. And then on Bake Tastica, of course, the Great British Baking Show, or Bake Off, depending on which side of the pond you're on. Uh, coverage of that with the new season or series, depending on which side of the pond you're on. Uh as that's going, uh Jamie, Greg, and Wendy over there. Uh so episode three of this season, uh, Audience Choice. So you can check out their coverage of that there. Um and then on the Handmaid's Tale podcast, of course, with Handmaid's Tale and Testaments, just the way that those shows are, that's like the one podcastica podcast that does not stray away from very personal uh and deep political commentary and conversation. So, with that being the case, if you are so inclined, go check out uh over on that podcast. Uh Jason and Wendy got together over there uh with an It's Time to Make a Difference episode discussing kind of the current political landscape and stuff right now, and with voting coming up very soon, midterm elections, uh a lot of conversation about the importance of that as well. So definitely give that a listen if you're so politically inclined to. And then on the Still Slaying podcast, Penny and Kara are doing Angel, season two, episode eight, all the Buffyverse stuff for you to check out on that podcast. Rewatching choice episodes from Buffy and Angel. So yeah, Angel this week. Uh go check that out. Um also, Jason and Karen have been doing some Widow's Bay coverage over on Everything's Fine, that podcast feed there. Uh I think episode two is up now, and maybe a little week break. Uh Jason's not able to get episode three up yet. Uh, because Lanterns over on the uh that podcast uh is a two and a half hour uh finale bonanza, and he's still working on editing that. So it's kind of uh judge, you know, balancing a lot of that, um, juggling that. But definitely stay tuned for the lanterns coverage on that podcast, and then on the Everything's Fine podcast for the Widow's Bay uh coverage. They'll get back to that very soon. So stay tuned on that. Um but outside of Podcastica, of course, our good friends at Pirate Core Entertainment, which you heard Mark earlier, um they're doing Crystal Lake coverage over there on What's On Tonight, as he said earlier, so you can check that coverage out over there as well. And then also our friends on TV Podcast Industries covering the Marvel uh Disney Plus series Vision Quest, which is kind of the end of the trilogy of WandaVision, Agatha all along, and now we've gotten into Vision Quest. I've also watched those first two episodes, they're absolutely incredible, so much fun. Uh they just don't mess with these WandaVision universe shows within this, uh, the MCU. It's yeah, I'm I'm really excited to see what this series holds, because if the first two are anything, then man, we're alone. We're out for a ride. We're ready for something. It's gonna be crazy. Uh but yeah, so definitely check out coverage of that over on TV Podcast Industries as well. And then uh if you want more of me and Daphne, and Jeff and Jerry, you heard earlier, you can check out our other podcast, the Buffalo Buffalo Podcast. Uh we just kind of get to hang out and do a lot of what was going on at the beginning of this episode. Uh just driving Daphne absolutely insane with non-stop shenanigans and tomfoolery. That's what we do.

SPEAKER_07

Yes. Always. 24-7.

SPEAKER_03

Uh so yeah, it's a good time. So definitely go check out all of that stuff over this week, give you some stuff to listen to. Actually, you know, listen to that stuff this week and next week, as we are taking a break next week before we get to the penultimate episode of the season, and then our Riffle Awards uh season finale. Uh so we will take next week off. We've got some traveling and fun and stuff that we're doing, uh, getting together and hanging out. And it's just it's it's a lot to try to record and edit and prep. You can't really do that while you're out partying every night for a week uh and hanging out and doing fun stuff. But we'll be we'll be together in person and we'll be we'll be chilling and we'll be doing fun stuff with Jeff and Jerry as well.

SPEAKER_07

So uh we will. It's gonna be so great. We've been talking about this trip, and yeah. It it seems so far away, and now it's it's here, and so I'm so excited to be in the same place. It's always fun when we get to be together, and it's been two years since the four of us were in the same place together. So this is gonna be so much fun.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so I guess um very slim chance, but if there are any listeners, uh, I guess I could say where we will be, because if there's any other listeners in the area or that will be going, uh, then definitely hit us up because yeah, we will all be in Fort Worth, Texas for the Sick New World Music Festival. So uh if any fans of that, anybody, because I know there's people traveling from all over to go to it. So on the off chance that I don't know, maybe some listeners out there will be also attending that music festival. Then if you're hearing this, hit us up. Send us a message. Uh we'll be in town, so we will come say hey.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. We will. You know, we have like five days that we're hanging out, but we're primarily it's Signew World that got us all together. Well, not Jerry, because he's not really wanting to do that, but we talked him into coming anyway to hang out with us the rest of the time. So yeah, reach out to us, let us know. We're excited, it's gonna be fun. With that, we've reached the end of another fun episode of Run for Your Lives Podcast. Was this one fun? Was I tortured too much?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. That's what makes it fun.

SPEAKER_07

Uh huh. For you. Thanks everyone for listening. I'm Daphne.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm Peggy.

SPEAKER_07

And if you have to run, you better run for your lives. Bye-bye.
