For this episode, Daphne and Pake had a conversation about a bunch of things and opened the curtain a bit so you could see more of their personalities and friendship.

[00:00:00] You're listening to the Run for Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:30] Hey everyone, welcome to the show. I'm Daphne. And I'm Pake. And this is the Run for Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:52] This episode, we're covering nothing and everything and something and I don't know. We're going into this completely blind.
[00:01:02] We're doing something a little different. I'm sure it's time, timey-wimey, whatever, everything is in different order.
[00:01:09] But whenever I've posted about this episode on social media earlier this week before you're listening,
[00:01:15] maybe I came up with something super clever to explain what we're doing.
[00:01:18] But for now, we'll just see. We're doing something a little different this week just for fun out of necessity.
[00:01:24] Sometimes you pivot when things don't work out exactly as you do or you need a little extra time on one thing or travel and work and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[00:01:33] Speaking of blah, blah, blah, blah, that's what we're doing today. We figured we're just going to get together and chat.
[00:01:41] We do this every time we record an episode. There's probably a good hour to two hours before and after we record that me and Daphne just blabber on forever and ever.
[00:01:53] Every little thing that we're into and what we're doing. And, you know, we'll never shut up about wrestling and music and books and anything else.
[00:02:01] So we figured we'll take that energy, put it into the podcast today because this is kind of a treat or torture.
[00:02:09] I don't know. We'll find out for those who've been listening for a long time or like dedicated listeners and those who write in feedback and things all the times, especially for you to kind of get to know us a little bit more aside from just talking about a movie
[00:02:23] or, you know, one of our little list episodes or something we do is where we're just going to talk about us.
[00:02:29] And you get to kind of it's going to take to that next level of like, oh, I listen to podcasts because it's like being in the room and just chatting with friends.
[00:02:35] You get to listen to us just like chat as friends do. I don't have anything prepared at all.
[00:02:41] Me either.
[00:02:42] Just kind of off the cuff, weighing it. There's a lot of things we talk about.
[00:02:45] So we'll see and I'm sure we'll kind of it'll be a little different than a usual conversation because we'll talk a little bit about just things that we're doing or things we're into or whatever.
[00:02:55] And we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it'll go well. And if you guys enjoy it, I would love to hear a lot of feedback from you.
[00:03:01] Tell us, please never do this again. It's terrible or be like, you know, if you enjoyed it, maybe we'll do this more often.
[00:03:09] Maybe we'll do this once a season or something or just to have our little conversations or chats.
[00:03:15] So the idea, even though we kind of came up with the idea separately, I didn't even mention it because we were looking for something to do and Daphne was the one that sent this idea on her own.
[00:03:24] Well, we could do something like that. And I was like, that's funny because I thought to myself many times while driving.
[00:03:31] I wish I could do a podcast like even just an episode like that or like my own kind of because with all the time in my life for another podcast.
[00:03:38] You have so much time.
[00:03:41] Conversational podcast because that's mostly the podcasts that I listen to.
[00:03:45] So a couple of shout outs for the like few of you that might know what any of these are because like my favorite podcast that I listen to all the time are podcasts like Dynamic Banner or Ear Biscuits or My Brother, My Brother and Me where it's mostly conversational.
[00:04:01] And they're comedy podcasts. It's people who are really funny getting together and making each other laugh and talking.
[00:04:08] And this isn't going to be that funny. Probably not. I don't know.
[00:04:12] It's not the comedy based but just to have those kind of episodes like those podcasts where people sit and just catch up on each other's lives and talk about things and you just kind of listen in on their conversations and what's going on with them.
[00:04:26] And I really enjoy that kind of stuff so we're going to give it a whirl.
[00:04:30] Yeah, it's going to be fun. It's going to be different.
[00:04:33] I wasn't sure what we were going to end up doing. We have another episode we're going to record next week that was supposed to take place this week, but we had a little bit of a storm that came in to New England and power has been a bit unpredictable.
[00:04:54] So it just made sense to postpone it and do it next week so that we could not have that chaos of wondering if we're going to get disconnected in the middle of it.
[00:05:07] Because it's something a little bit special. Not going to say what it is but it's something a little bit special.
[00:05:16] Yeah, so we'll pivot like I said do something a little different and we'll try not to ramble on too much. I'm thinking myself keep it 45 minutes or so.
[00:05:25] Yeah.
[00:05:26] Try to stick under an hour and then our usual plugs and everything else that we do our outro at the end but.
[00:05:32] Yeah.
[00:05:33] But yeah, I'll keep an eye on the clock and make sure we don't go too long but we'll have a little back and forth, a little chat.
[00:05:40] So I guess to get started, I will mention you speak about you spoke about you speak about. Yeah. Aside from movies were going to throw in grammar out the window too.
[00:05:49] No, you spoke about yeah the storm and everything last night so I know you and Chris went on a interstate exploratory adventure last night do some fun stuff and you have driving through that storm on the way home so that's.
[00:06:06] We definitely did we tend to go on these date nights where we got to watch wrestling it's just something that we do it's something that a good friend got me into during the pandemic.
[00:06:19] I'd never really great friend.
[00:06:24] So we went because I had bought tickets to take Chris to see a w because he had not seen it in person before.
[00:06:32] I know Paken I mentioned way back that we went to a pay per view in Las Vegas. Yeah.
[00:06:39] I think it was 2021.
[00:06:42] So 22. Yeah somewhere in there. We went to a pay per view and so Chris had never seen this in person, but we always go to our local promotion that's called limit list.
[00:06:54] And it's a lot of fun so I thought wow we could go to Worcester and this would be a ton of fun.
[00:07:03] And then we found out that the blizzard was going to happen and honestly I wasn't sure because I really wanted to go and we ended up going.
[00:07:15] The drive down was easy there really wasn't any like storm other than there was a bit of rain that was about it but on the way home we hit the gamut of freezing rain and snow and driving 35 miles an hour
[00:07:32] and big trucks going by and throwing snow on your car and anyone who lives in New England knows.
[00:07:41] Winters up here can be interesting before this we'd only had two other sizable storms. Yeah.
[00:07:49] So yeah I think Mother Nature wants to go out with a bang and I hope this is her last winter surprise.
[00:07:57] Right well it's you know spring break for a lot of people so what better than a blizzard of snow.
[00:08:03] Oh of course. Of course. Yeah I've never had to drive in something like that.
[00:08:10] I've been in a car driving through a blizzard like that once and that was wild it was in like Utah it was nuts.
[00:08:19] I mean you can't see the road you can't see the side of the road it's just white it's not everything is just white and it's driving as slow as you can and the other cars if you can see them are also hopefully doing the same and you just hope for the best like GPS is telling me to go this way so I'm let's go this way.
[00:08:38] Yeah the trip itself should have taken about two hours if we didn't hit any storm or if the weather was normal and instead it took us about four hours to get home.
[00:08:50] I had booked a hotel room but things we have pets and it gets complicated with one of them who's on medication so.
[00:09:01] Given the weather report I just said you know what it's gonna probably be worse tomorrow.
[00:09:07] Let's see if we can just push through this we can always stop at a hotel if we need to but let's see if we can make it home.
[00:09:15] It was frustrating but we did it and I'm happy that we made it home and that we went because it was a ton of fun and.
[00:09:27] Those opportunities don't come all the time so I'm glad that we went yeah.
[00:09:33] I can imagine it was a lot of fun I watched the same event you were at live on TV so I mean I know some stuff was really fun.
[00:09:41] Yeah I can imagine being that person is super cool yeah so cool yeah they had some of the local guys that we know.
[00:09:49] Were there or we know who they are and we've seen them before so it was like look who they're bringing out this is great.
[00:09:56] So it was a lot of fun there in the audience was responsive to the local guys so it was great.
[00:10:04] Speaking of fun things to do you have some concerts that you're going to.
[00:10:08] This year so far I've got a lot of concerts and shows I'm trying to think have I done any already I did all of our tree in February was my start to music this year but yeah I've got a lot of tickets I keep buying up more stuff so the next one comes up.
[00:10:26] I was gonna say next weekend but based on when people listen to this point yeah.
[00:10:31] On Sunday I'm a huge fan of Bayside like punk rock and roll band from New York been around forever emo band.
[00:10:41] Love them have been a huge fan forever my first tattoo back in late 2012 was the Bayside logo so I've there they're place in my heart and on my leg forever and ever and.
[00:10:52] Huge fan of them they got a new album coming out.
[00:10:55] Hours from when I'm saying this right now so I'm excited for that to drop tonight and I'll be listening to that jamming it and going to see them.
[00:11:04] Super stoked and then like two weeks after that I'm going to see marshmallow because I'm a big like EDM guy too sometimes I enjoy a lot of like electronic stuff never seen marshmallow so that will be really fun.
[00:11:17] Side note he is my birthday and not just we don't we don't share the same birthday just in general but like specifically the same day same years like we were both born on May 19 1992 which is really interesting.
[00:11:33] Really twins.
[00:11:35] Yes exact same birthday which is fun Sam Smith also I have the exact same birthday year.
[00:11:43] Oh my goodness.
[00:11:46] That is something I didn't know it's like.
[00:11:49] Yeah so it's like it's two musicians that I really enjoy music producers and stuff Sam Smith and marshmallow as my like exact same day of birth like that is very cool.
[00:12:00] I don't think I have a birth yeah I'd have to look it up.
[00:12:04] Yeah.
[00:12:06] Just happened to find those out one like Sam Smith yeah just going through like I don't know just like came up on somewhere it's like on like Wikipedia or whatever and it's like a birthday was like wow.
[00:12:16] And then there's like the whole marshmallow thing is people who know him as a DJ being the masked helmet DJ and then there was all this talk of who is you know who's under the mask who's the real identity.
[00:12:25] And then people do sleuthing and I found out who the actual identity is underneath because he did other DJs.
[00:12:31] Oh.
[00:12:33] Find that stuff and then you're like oh and then that person and then you like look it up and then it was like birthday and it's like that's wild anyway.
[00:12:40] That is very cool.
[00:12:43] I don't have any birthday twins as far as I can see that are fantastic.
[00:12:49] I'm going to go see my birthday twin in a couple of weeks marshmallow and then let's see July AJR which will be fun.
[00:12:59] Always love seeing those guys that's like a week before me.
[00:13:02] I know all our stuff.
[00:13:05] That's gonna be fun.
[00:13:07] Yeah and then September will be the next after that for now I'm sure other things will pop up and I might end up buying other things but September I've got 21 pilots their Clancy World Tour their new album.
[00:13:18] Coming out in May and then like five days after that is Green Day for their new their Saviors Tour with Smashing Pumpkins and Rancid and Linda Lendez.
[00:13:29] Oh my goodness.
[00:13:31] So you're gonna hear Ruby Soho in person probably.
[00:13:35] I mean I already have.
[00:13:37] But again I will again and plus other full set of their songs.
[00:13:42] Yeah it's just that one yeah.
[00:13:44] But that's where my mind goes too when I hear them.
[00:13:46] Yeah absolutely.
[00:13:48] It's a great song.
[00:13:50] And then yeah so that's it for now unless just today glass animals announced their tour dates and but it's also right there in September along with those other two so we will see you debating it because I also have to take time to like work.
[00:14:06] Yeah so.
[00:14:08] You gotta work.
[00:14:10] You also have yeah there's lots of things going on.
[00:14:13] It's fun though when you think about it because we podcast every week but that is a piece of the people that we are because we do some you know a bunch of other things there.
[00:14:27] We have other interests outside of that and some of them are similar to live music and stuff for me yeah yeah so you have a lot of live music concerts all the time.
[00:14:39] Yeah.
[00:14:40] And then yeah other than that like see I need to do more Meow Wolf visits.
[00:14:46] We'll talk about meow yeah definitely some good dinners at culture and I mean you're gonna not wait and then I'm going to go there for my birthday it's a locally owned amazing restaurant just here in the town that I live in.
[00:14:59] I'm good friends with the head chef and owner and he's such a good guy and so good.
[00:15:07] Such like the food is incredible and so definitely make sure to do that on special occasions so that's be a plan but yeah meow Wolf took Riley to meow Wolf for the first time last weekend.
[00:15:19] She was super fun he had a blast.
[00:15:23] What was his favorite room the.
[00:15:25] Well I mean there's there's a room in the grapevine mills in Dallas.
[00:15:30] Meow Wolf because that's this one I took him to their newest location for those who don't know what meow Wolf is quick tangent.
[00:15:37] I think we might have talked about it on here.
[00:15:38] I don't know.
[00:15:40] Yeah it's like an interactive art exhibit but that's like the absolute most boring version of the.
[00:15:46] Describe it that like covers it but it's like but if you just say that it's like that gives you nothing on what you're actually going into because it's like a giant maze but like you configure your way around but all these rooms are different
[00:16:00] and there's different ways to get to all the different rooms and they all have secret entrances and hidden things and there's all kinds of little interactive pieces and fun stuff with all the rooms you can just play around with it
[00:16:12] and find stuff there's like a whole storyline and all these like clues and hidden things if you want to do that or you can just look around there's so many things you can easily spend an entire day.
[00:16:21] Oh my gosh yes.
[00:16:23] Have stuff to do.
[00:16:25] They have four locations Santa Fe the original one which.
[00:16:27] Daphne I will be doing in July as well we're going to go over Santa Fe for Tremors Fest again this year so good to do it because I did Santa Fe last year for Tremors Fest I did the meow Wolf there the OG location which paid for a lot of the funding to get that thing off the ground none other than Mr. George our our mark.
[00:16:47] Oh man.
[00:16:49] Which we also will need to meet and hang out with in Santa Fe so that'll be fun.
[00:16:54] He's such a sweet guy.
[00:16:56] I'm not going to be asking about when he's going to finish his book because I'm sure he gets that all the time.
[00:17:02] I'm not going to ask him that but I'm really looking forward to it you and Levi looked like you were having the best time last year.
[00:17:12] Yeah Tremors Fest was incredible so we'll do it again and then we'll do meow Wolf in Santa Fe and then we've both done the Dallas meow Wolf which is their newest location for my birthday last year.
[00:17:24] Yeah you came down last year and we did that and Rebecca came up and met us there and that was fun.
[00:17:31] Now I've been twice because I took Riley last week and for his birthday actually so that was great right.
[00:17:39] It really is it really is I might go up again just around my birthday just for the hell of it.
[00:17:45] I had my first empanyada in their little cafe that was the first time I'd ever.
[00:17:50] Like oh man yeah it was it was yeah it was so much fun so bright and so colorful and whimsical.
[00:17:59] You can't describe it adequately with words.
[00:18:04] No it's you just have to experience it so if anybody is in the Dallas area or like DFW area or plans to be for any reason make sure to hit up meow Wolf same with Santa Fe New Mexico other locations Denver Colorado I need to get to Denver.
[00:18:19] And knock that one off and then there's one in Las Vegas in area 15.
[00:18:24] How did we not go there.
[00:18:26] I know while we were in Vegas a couple years ago as we mentioned I beat myself up being like because we passed things for it there's billboards everywhere and it's like I hadn't been to the one in Santa Fe yet at that point so I didn't know exactly what it was I knew what it was I was like oh I've heard about it it sounds cool but now that I have been to a couple of them I'm like beating myself up like God.
[00:18:46] We should have done that while we were in Vegas now I'm like I guess I need another reason to go to Vegas.
[00:18:53] I would have been indoctrinated into it so much earlier yeah if we had gone but we were really busy to that week so there's no way we could have.
[00:19:04] It just wouldn't happen yeah but I'm for sure.
[00:19:07] Gonna need to plan another trip to Vegas even if it's literally just like a two day quick weekend staying a crappy little hotel and literally just make the plan to let go see a Cirque show do meow Wolf go home like I might do something.
[00:19:21] I think that's what you have to do in the near future because Vegas is not a place that you I don't know some people love it and I'm happy for you if you do but I've been there twice once for a skating competition and once for double or nothing.
[00:19:36] That Pagan I went to and we went to shows we went to see a Cirque show Miss Dare that was so much fun Pate got popcorn thrown on him it was.
[00:19:46] So fun.
[00:19:48] And we saw Jabber walkies that was also so much fun.
[00:19:53] I feel like I've done enough of Vegas now so I get yeah other than other than I will have to go back to like.
[00:20:01] Have to maybe that's like a little side trip sometime.
[00:20:05] Yeah I said just like a two day thing I said Cirque now we'll get the hell out of there so we have any listeners in Vegas hit us up and maybe we'll plan something same with.
[00:20:14] Yeah you're in Denver.
[00:20:16] Me a message and then like let's go do me I will sometime give me a reason like meet up go do some stuff.
[00:20:22] But yeah so fun tangent but that's what this is.
[00:20:26] Yeah it is we were released.
[00:20:29] We're able to talk about whatever.
[00:20:32] Fifth location supposed to be coming this year in Houston so I'm hoping because I go down to Houston that's an easy drive for me to I live between Dallas and Houston so it's like I can hit those up.
[00:20:45] So hopefully that will get opened later this year because we're actually having a podcast to meet up in Texas I think right now it's leaning towards Austin which is a two and a half hour drive.
[00:20:56] Yeah.
[00:20:57] In Houston on a good day to mean traffic changes things a lot but on average you know two and a half three and a half hours between the two that's a day trip.
[00:21:08] I'm taking people to go see me.
[00:21:09] I will if it's open and I have like podcast people in Texas I'm like I don't care get in my car.
[00:21:16] We have already talked about now you have at least two of us that are going to go.
[00:21:22] Like I feel like we have to show our friend Jeff the wonder of me a wolf and Bucky's and Bucky's too.
[00:21:29] Yeah Bucky's the promised land the holy beaver.
[00:21:34] Yeah we joke about it all the time because we can't explain me I will for Bucky's and it kind of just magical lands that you have to get there to experience.
[00:21:47] Yeah it's funny because when my friends outside of the podcast realm talk about Bucky's it's you know equally as like they get equally as excited about it like it's just a place that you go and.
[00:22:02] You can't really explain it other than it's wonderful and yeah that's just how it is.
[00:22:09] Yeah it's it is a beautiful place to say if I go to Dallas or Houston it's on my way it's like yeah you can't not stop.
[00:22:19] But it said taking Riley to Meow Wolf in Dallas we stopped at Bucky's on the way and on the way back because that's what you do.
[00:22:26] I remember the first time I came to Dallas you took me and I have a picture of myself with with the beaver and I think it's like a golden statue at least that's yeah it's very cool.
[00:22:41] It's more bronze but like it feels cold it feels important.
[00:22:46] Yeah so I have had my picture taken with Bucky the beaver outside.
[00:22:51] It's so cool so yeah I've done that.
[00:22:55] So I feel like this podcast can meet up I'm quite sure it's going to be Austin.
[00:22:59] It's going to be a great opportunity to show some of the cool things especially if that Houston Meow Wolf gets open.
[00:23:09] Yes and that's gonna be great.
[00:23:12] Happening for sure.
[00:23:13] It's just yeah and then whether or not it's there then there will be a Bucky's pilgrimage forced upon as many people as possibly make that happen.
[00:23:22] Have you thought about renting a bus?
[00:23:24] Be great take a bus out to Bucky's the Bucky's bus.
[00:23:27] Bucky's are bust get a little bumper sticker that could be fun.
[00:23:36] That will be fun.
[00:23:38] What else?
[00:23:40] So we talked a little bit about Riley.
[00:23:44] You've mentioned Riley before on the podcast.
[00:23:47] Have you really talked about your job and your connection with Riley?
[00:23:53] I don't yeah probably maybe you have.
[00:23:56] In like almost four years.
[00:23:58] Yeah.
[00:24:00] I feel like I probably have but I don't know for sure so for those who if I haven't or for those who need a refresher or for those who are newer they haven't listened to everything.
[00:24:12] Yeah because I mentioned taking him right because Riley is a I finally kind of broken out of going sweet.
[00:24:18] Oh he's a kid that I take because he just I said his birthday was last weekend he just turned 26.
[00:24:22] He's he is very much adult like young man but I've been with him for going on 11 years so he was 15 when I started so he was a kid.
[00:24:36] But yeah he's a young man with cerebral palsy very like high spasticity like the you know low functioning physically as far as CP goes where he's like nonverbal in a way.
[00:24:52] A real chair needs 24 hour care needs full you know he's fully you know reliant on others for most things.
[00:25:01] So yeah so I've been doing that for I said almost 11 years coming up 11 years this year just like as respite care and taking care of him and that goes from everything from like nursing and medical stuff to just like making sure he is fed and cleaned and taken care of to then
[00:25:22] he's definitely like mine.
[00:25:25] We're just keeping him entertained as well and doing lots of fun things we drive around we listen to music we go to all kinds of places I try to take him up his parents are always just like blown away but it's just like all the music that is like he probably would have had nothing to do with it wasn't for me
[00:25:42] I've opened up his mind colonarily I'm such a huge big like foodie guy and that's rubbed off on Riley because like his mom even told me last week he doesn't do this with everyone he's like but if you ask him if he wants something that he's never had before
[00:25:56] he'll tell you yes he will try to like I've got him on a big fried plantain kick right now.
[00:26:02] Because your bffs I know I think I told you that when I first we first start podcasting because it was a different world you were.
[00:26:12] Going to Riley is to do the podcast because of there wasn't a place in your apartment that was soundproof enough to be able to record because of your by a highway and it's very loud and.
[00:26:28] So you used to go there and record so I got a chance to virtually meet Riley early on and it's always kind of blown me away the connection that you guys have.
[00:26:40] Together like you're so in tune.
[00:26:44] And you know exactly what he needs and you guys communicate and it's like you're in your own world sometimes and I just think that that is so incredibly special.
[00:26:56] And it's yeah it's cool that you have that relationship and you're able to do that because it isn't something that you thought would come easy I if I remember you had said early on.
[00:27:08] No when the opportunity for the job came up like and it's funny because I can joke with his parents now like his mom will tell me is just like she's like I gave you the interview to be nice.
[00:27:19] She was like I had zero intention of hiring you I just didn't know anything about you didn't know and she's like I literally was like because I came as like a recommendation from somebody else who's already working with him.
[00:27:28] That's just because he needed some help and so she was like I gave you the interview to be nice but I wasn't going to hire you just because I just felt like it was different.
[00:27:37] You know it's just like oh he's usually now there's more guys more men taking care of him because he's getting bigger and heavier and need it but.
[00:27:46] But back when he was younger there's just like the obvious like you know just you you know take you know there's caution and stuff with some things.
[00:27:54] And so she was like yeah I just you know gave it to you just you know for funsies just to see how it went and then she was like the fact that like on my interview I stayed for like two hours.
[00:28:03] And kept asking questions and questions and questions and was really making sure I had everything that I was you know twirling she hired me on the spot and then.
[00:28:13] Fast forward like you know ten and a half years and it's still like I never thought I'd have a job like that that I'm still excited and happy to go to work every single day like any day that I have work like I never.
[00:28:26] Because I've worked retail and all kinds of stuff before this job and like I have had those times like my alarm going off in the morning and the first thing I do is just sit up and go fuck.
[00:28:37] Like I just don't want it and it's just miserable because I was in a band and I was a starving artist and I wanted to make music and make tour around and so I wrote all my songs about how much I hated my life nine to five grind detail working.
[00:28:53] And then I left all that behind because this was finally something that gave me purpose and that I really loved and I was doing and man wouldn't change it for a day I was like I can't do that.
[00:29:06] It's like medical stuff and like taking care is like there's without getting to a specific but there's like a lot of like the dirty aspects of the job that you got to do with medical and care and it's like.
[00:29:19] I don't know how to I can't do that and then I don't know it just like was in me and I was like oh no I got this this is cool this dude is the coolest kid in the whole world so yeah.
[00:29:31] I think it's amazing that.
[00:29:35] The little interview that you got as a courtesy turned out into.
[00:29:40] And you know you were hired on the spot and it's led to this eleven year career doing something that you never imagined you'd be doing but you love it so much.
[00:29:51] Is you know built this with Riley you build this relationship with them I think.
[00:29:56] You know sometimes we look at things and we think no there's no way I can do that and then you surprise yourself.
[00:30:04] And you realize oh no I can do that and I can't yeah like you can do it it's eye opening sometimes because.
[00:30:16] Like you said you were doing a different job and you weren't happy and this is brought you a lot of joy like being able to do this and.
[00:30:24] I mean I can attest you don't I don't know that you've ever called out once.
[00:30:31] Since I've known you like you unless you're really sick unless I'm yeah unless I'm sick like sick sick and you're there and you go in when they need you like you're very reliable.
[00:30:44] Yeah I mean I have no reason really to not know because I'm like yeah I mean yeah like because of like a lot of like traveling and doing like trips and concerts and stuff there's a lot of times yeah I like.
[00:30:55] Move stuff around and stuff like you know I still live my life don't worry but yeah yeah.
[00:31:01] But yeah no it's not tired of it yet I've never had a single day going like I don't want to go to fucking work.
[00:31:09] I'm like no it just doesn't happen and I.
[00:31:12] Is something to be revered because it's not something that everyone has like we all I think want it.
[00:31:21] But it's not always something that you can get you can tolerate your job.
[00:31:27] Or you do it for specific reasons like you said you're working retail so you could be in a band.
[00:31:34] Yeah it doesn't always work that way I feel like in my life I'm starting to.
[00:31:43] Finally get to a place that I'm going to be super happy with the things that are coming together and.
[00:31:52] I love the work that I do I love the projects that I work on I work at I work for a health care organization and I love that I get to do things that can help people.
[00:32:05] But it's not ever something.
[00:32:08] Doing administrative work is something I've always fallen back on it was never meant to be my career.
[00:32:15] But it's what I do really well I'm very successful at it and so it's something that I've continued.
[00:32:23] To do and just grow and I feel like over the last couple years have really grown at work.
[00:32:29] But it also allows me the flexibility to go and do the other things that I love to do.
[00:32:36] Because you have another like job it's not you know as round the year constant salary paying kind of thing but like it is a job that you do on the side that you also incredibly good at and talented
[00:32:51] and and very like in something that you enjoy doing so much.
[00:32:56] So I was like it's like yeah administrative is your day job and then I was like so like a superhero and I was like what's your superhero name.
[00:33:01] And at night she's the shutter bug.
[00:33:05] I never thought of it that way but I do I love photography I've been doing it since 2006 and I work in a very niche sport which is figure skating.
[00:33:18] And in addition to that I run I've been running a website devoted to promoting and interviewing athletes that are part of the ice dance world in the realm of figure skating.
[00:33:32] And I've been doing that since 1999 this year is a big milestone birthday or anniversary with it being 25 years.
[00:33:42] Yeah I've learned so much.
[00:33:44] I look at it and just yeah it kind of blows me away sometimes just thinking about oh I've been doing that for that long but then I also look at we've been podcasting for four years.
[00:33:58] And it seems like we just started in some ways.
[00:34:02] Yeah.
[00:34:04] And you know the pandemic was brutal.
[00:34:06] I think for everyone there's just was unimaginable.
[00:34:10] Unimaginable.
[00:34:14] But it added more to my life like there were things that came out of it that added more to my already busy life.
[00:34:21] You talked about oh like I have time for another podcast.
[00:34:25] Well I think that like I have time for another project because I just have so many things that I enjoy doing and what I figured out is if you really enjoy doing it you'll find a way to be able to make it all balance.
[00:34:40] And I have you know just just taking it one day at a time sometimes because there's so much because I do trips.
[00:34:51] I do go to competitions.
[00:34:53] I just got back from Montreal like a week or two ago for the World Championships which is a huge deal and I'm free from trips for a little while and then July is packed with some skating
[00:35:10] and a fun little vacation that we're going to do.
[00:35:14] Yeah.
[00:35:16] So it's more well-rounded I think my life's more well-rounded now because I just have even more in it to get excited about.
[00:35:25] There's always something to do.
[00:35:27] I feel like.
[00:35:29] And then if there's any listeners that are listening to this that have that niche thing that they enjoy as well.
[00:35:34] That they are figure skating fans listening then I don't know where unless they already know you from.
[00:35:42] Some of our listeners do.
[00:35:44] Yeah.
[00:35:46] But then for those who might not yeah where would they find all your stuff is like for fans and then you do like photography and stuff so they can reach you as far as like for events and you'll do photography.
[00:35:55] Photography and stuff for skaters and things.
[00:35:58] I shot my brother's wedding and never again.
[00:36:01] Yeah I do portraits like family portraits and I'll do Pat photos.
[00:36:07] Usually it's best to like do it.
[00:36:09] I just like to do it outside because I feel like when you get people or especially kids in the natural environment of being outside playing they're much easier to work with and you get more realistic photos.
[00:36:21] I look yeah I try to do more of the realistic not airbrushed photography.
[00:36:28] More of like what's actually there versus you know there's just been a tendency to airbrush and edit things to death and I don't do that.
[00:36:39] I want it's one thing to clean up someone's skin.
[00:36:43] It's another thing to like change their whole physical appearance.
[00:36:49] I'm not going to do that it's just not what I do.
[00:36:51] My own personal website is actually I'm revising and I finally have time to work on it.
[00:36:56] But I'm at ice-dance.com and then I also have a skating podcast that I started after doing Run For Your Lives for two years.
[00:37:08] I decided to join together my love of skating and my love of podcasting.
[00:37:15] And so my co-host Gina and I are celebrating two years doing this weekend skating and all of that's it thisweekandskating.com.
[00:37:24] But I will get my personal website back up it's just I realized that I hadn't posted anything new since 2019 and so it just needed to be completely redone.
[00:37:38] Just because I need another project.
[00:37:41] Right.
[00:37:43] And so yeah so I'm sure if we do more of these or just even in just general at some point when you get back up then we can plug what that is and what you know a new URL or whatever your app is.
[00:37:53] Yeah I'm sure there's people following along like whether you're ice skating stuff if you want to check out ice-dance.com and all kinds of news and interviews and things there with the podcast so you're staying on top of that.
[00:38:06] And then yeah this first personal photography if somebody's in the area which you don't have to say what it is right on here your exact area but you know for safety reasons but people can reach out to you at some point.
[00:38:15] Oh yeah if you're in like New Hampshire, Maine, New Hampshire, northern Mass reach out to me.
[00:38:21] Because I'd be happy to share some of my work.
[00:38:25] The portraits and kid photos that I do a lot of it's like my family or I get requests to do just different coworkers and I've done headshots too from my work.
[00:38:38] We just did like a photo day and my friend Roxanne and I did all the photos for our whole department was a lot of fun.
[00:38:46] A lot of work but a lot of fun.
[00:38:49] We kind of had it tag teamed and it was just like yeah if you want that done done right.
[00:38:56] We're the duo we're a tag team when it comes to some of the stuff we can make it happen.
[00:39:02] But never a wedding because I did my brothers and it was a disaster for me.
[00:39:07] People said to me oh did you enjoy the wedding?
[00:39:10] No.
[00:39:12] Because I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get pictures of things that I thought they would want and I had never done a wedding before.
[00:39:21] I just didn't it wasn't fun.
[00:39:23] Yeah I've done more the technical side of things not photography but I've done like sound stuff for two weddings.
[00:39:30] I was like a DJ for a wedding once and I was like the sound person for a wedding.
[00:39:38] It was like an outdoor wedding so I had to run the sound board which had like DJ implication stuff because I was like plug in this person's iPod with their playlist and whenever they start walking hit this song and then change the levels here.
[00:39:49] And I've done it twice and it I mean both of them turned out great but it is I don't know it's not my favorite thing it's very stressful and there's a lot of pressure.
[00:39:59] The last one that I did I was just DJing the wedding but then the power went out in the place because there's a big storm.
[00:40:05] Oh boy.
[00:40:07] Like not long after the reception started so I had made sure to download the playlist just Spotify so it's not the great I'm not like a DJ you know I don't have all my setup and stuff like some people but it was like it's just a favor for a friend.
[00:40:23] So I just like had like a Spotify playlist but I did think ahead to make sure to download the whole playlist before in case there was a Wi-Fi issue.
[00:40:31] And so when the power went out I got to just walk around the reception hall the party with laptop in hand and just playing the music speakers do what I could you know.
[00:40:41] Wait by candlelight.
[00:40:43] It's what you do.
[00:40:45] You have to make it work sometimes.
[00:40:47] You know things can happen and get in your way and you have to be able to pivot if you have a good plan in place like you said downloading it ahead of time just in case you have a good just in case plan.
[00:41:00] You can usually adapt to whatever is happening.
[00:41:03] The problem is you don't always have the time to throw that together and that's when things just become a shit show.
[00:41:11] Right because that wedding was probably like five or six years ago and my friends that got married like I still see them regularly and that still comes up from time to time still being like them like praising that you kept walking just like put the music on and we're walking around in the dark.
[00:41:25] You were not going to let them down.
[00:41:29] Come on you would never you of course you did that.
[00:41:33] That's yeah that's who you are like you're gonna you're gonna make it work if you need to I mean there have been ridiculous things that have happened when we've been recording this podcast.
[00:41:43] I mean we've talked about it before tornado warnings and then sometimes you had to take your laptop to get closer to the router but you know what I mean.
[00:41:54] Because the internet was being funky and then at one random point your Google Alexa thing came on in the middle of us recording the episode I mean funny things have happened.
[00:42:08] We were talking to it and it was just like oh I've got that.
[00:42:11] Not now we're not we don't want to talk to you.
[00:42:17] Yeah we definitely don't want to talk to you so.
[00:42:20] Yeah they try to I think sometimes technology tries to infiltrate itself into what we're doing and so yes yeah you never know a certain Apple.
[00:42:32] A voice assistant who's a name I'm not gonna say because it will pop up right here on my MacBook and then that has interrupted yeah I'm like now I'm completely thrown off because.
[00:42:44] Yeah no I wasn't talking to you.
[00:42:47] It's so funny that happens to me in the car I'll say something and that will interrupt the song that's playing and I'm just like no I don't want you.
[00:42:57] I want the song that I have on Spotify I want to hear that not your voice it's just ridiculous sometimes technology is fun and annoying although you have been having some fun with little a I think lately making songs.
[00:43:13] Yeah.
[00:43:16] Hang on.
[00:43:18] It's always knocking on the door I'll be right back.
[00:43:21] Well I was gonna say edit some of this and we'll edit some of that around but I do want to include I just plugged our podcast.
[00:43:27] Yeah somebody was knocking on my door guess what Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons or whatever the people whoever with the ties.
[00:43:35] Probably more Jehovah's Witnesses around here but I didn't really stop to ask for sure.
[00:43:41] Because yeah I just opened the door and they're like hey and I was like I'm recording a podcast right now so of course they're like what is it so I was like well we cover monster movies horror movies things like that.
[00:43:52] And there's like what it's called run for your lives because I'm gonna write that down I'm like alright.
[00:43:57] Hopefully they like it.
[00:43:59] We'll see.
[00:44:00] So maybe they're listening to this episode sometime in the future.
[00:44:04] Hi.
[00:44:06] You didn't know it but you are now part of an episode.
[00:44:09] Right thanks for interrupting the podcast but that's okay because you didn't know and you didn't hold me and keep going.
[00:44:17] So we were talking about your new little hobby with a music because you've mentioned before that you were in a band I know we've talked about this before on here.
[00:44:31] But you've been dabbling with this little music a I lately and it's been a lot of fun to listen to what you put together.
[00:44:40] Yeah it's a soon oh.
[00:44:41] Soon oh.
[00:44:43] Soon oh.
[00:44:45] And it's it's ridiculous but it basically is an AI like chat GBT it's probably connected in some way with with with chat GBT or one of those other because what's the the Bing chat bot that's got a different name like Jason is obsessed with that one.
[00:45:02] Yeah Jason that one but whatever this one is working with but soon oh it's a it's a music AI where you give it prompts and you can do with like styles of music and you can add your own lyrics and there's all I've still got lots that I want to play with it but it makes AI music makes AI songs that are like two minutes in length within like 30 seconds.
[00:45:22] And it's ridiculous kind of scary.
[00:45:25] I was like well there goes all the musicians jobs the robots really are taking over but I'm but are they really not really.
[00:45:31] I don't know that not really you can tell it's very fun but you know artificial for sure still but yeah but it's been fun to play around with with different songs and ideas and goof around with it.
[00:45:43] So I've been doing a lot of that so that one's fun.
[00:45:46] I did try a couple of like run for your lives theme songs on there.
[00:45:51] I showed you the other day so I think what might be fun is I'm going to send you see after we're done recording I'm going to see if we can download and get those links to you in some way and see if you can like clip some of that and play and maybe we'll outro this episode with with some of our.
[00:46:08] I think that's run for your lives.
[00:46:11] That is such a great idea.
[00:46:13] That is such a great idea.
[00:46:15] That could be fun.
[00:46:17] So we're not just talking about it you can hear that I could have a whole conversation about how I feel about AI and and.
[00:46:26] You know intellectual property and people's artists.
[00:46:29] Yeah but that's.
[00:46:31] I mean if we were doing episodes specific subject that would be an interesting one to do.
[00:46:37] I feel like if we cover I robot.
[00:46:41] Which is kind of like an AI type.
[00:46:46] Robot Will Smith movie that might be fun maybe we can talk about some of it then but I get it though I mean I get the whole intellectual property I mean for me as a photographer.
[00:46:57] It goes back to people taking my photos and posting them as their own or putting them in magazines without credit or whatever I mean it happens to me it happens to my friends.
[00:47:10] It's frustrating because AI doesn't doesn't create it.
[00:47:15] It takes things that already exists and like recreates them plays with them but like you can do the fact that you can do in the style of this or whether it's music or art or poetry or whatever you can say in the style of and you can like.
[00:47:31] Wrap your words and prompts around a way to get it to do a certain thing.
[00:47:35] It's it's not creating something new and so I do definitely think like AI.
[00:47:41] AI art is not art it's theft.
[00:47:45] Okay let's not get too deep if you're profiting off of it if you're trying to make money off of art like an AI stuff then it's it's it's iffy and I'm not a fan of that but without getting too deep again but as far as this like I think as a as somebody who is a songwriter
[00:48:01] and musician in a life past and still goof around with it every now and then.
[00:48:08] At least for this I'm having fun with it because it's I mean I'm not selling any of this stuff nothing's you know taking over things nobody's buying tickets to go see AI artists yet well have seen me goes been doing things forever but.
[00:48:20] But what you see what I'm saying as far as.
[00:48:24] It's a tool it's fun to goof around with and play with and I think like if somebody wanted to take that AI.
[00:48:29] App that I'm using.
[00:48:31] If you're stuck somewhere it is great to say here's the theme I'm trying to convey I kind of want this style that you can see what it comes up with and then you can say OK this little piece of it this like two or three seconds this hook this this line this chorus this.
[00:48:46] This stands on like I like that so let me take that piece that I like and then actually build something of my own around it I think that's really great I think it could be a great tool for artists.
[00:48:57] But nobody's gonna be able to just take something verbatim like you know what the AI spits out and just take that and a hot that is their own art nobody's buying that right now now someday in the future who knows where we'll get with that kind of stuff but yeah I'm curious as to where things go with that.
[00:49:14] Because there are a lot of capabilities but again I think it's something that people need to use for good not for bad.
[00:49:23] So alright anything else I got a few other things I want to talk about you know what I'm gonna keep people hanging on because I think we've gone long enough stuff I said I wanted to keep it under an hour.
[00:49:34] So people enjoyed this that way we're not over staying on but if people are enjoying it then it gives you a little bit of a you know reason to say hey maybe we do this again.
[00:49:45] Continue the conversation we have lots of fun I mean we pigs not exaggerating we've always I think even before we started podcasting together we always.
[00:49:57] Would talk.
[00:49:59] I had a time like for a while and yeah so this is like one of those conversations it's kind of just how it goes we're talking about stuff right yeah.
[00:50:12] So in lieu of a feedback phone this week now we do have feedback I will still read it off but I think instead either we will go into some feedback and plugs or if we can get it figured out then instead of the feedback phone let the sultry.
[00:50:29] Sounds of a I run for your lives theme song run you into the next section I think that sounds like a plan yeah and then if you don't hear that then we couldn't get it figured out and sorry maybe we'll figure it out next time.
[00:50:42] Grab your popcorn settle in tight it's time to get scared it's gonna be a night.
[00:50:50] From aliens to zombies they don't miss a beat taking you on a journey with every new release exploring the depths of the biggest disasters hold out tight it's gonna be a master class run for your life scream it to the night.
[00:51:10] Monsters and creatures that come in a bite in the darkness don't keep you alive.
[00:51:19] Daffy and Kate don't make you survive.
[00:51:39] Alright and we're back I'm going to assume that we figured out a way to edit in a music that I mentioned earlier and hopefully you heard that and it was fun.
[00:51:51] As a nice little segue but yeah again as we said while we were recording this episode we are curious what you guys think so this would technically be like a feedback section.
[00:52:00] But because we didn't have anything really for you to give feedback for necessarily until now so if you did enjoy that conversation if you want any more information on anything we talked about if you're curious you have backup you know follow up questions.
[00:52:14] Or if you just enjoyed it and would like to hear things like this more often please let us know that's the feedback we'd love to hear from you guys this week and next week and so on.
[00:52:22] So yeah we're curious if this was a fun episode for you guys as much as it was really fun for us to do something a little bit different just.
[00:52:29] You know.
[00:52:30] Shoot the shit talk for a little bit it was fun.
[00:52:33] Yeah it was a ton of fun.
[00:52:35] And it honestly comes really easy because we do it all the time.
[00:52:42] Like we talk like that that's you know we have good conversations so it's fun to get to share a little bit of it.
[00:52:49] With you.

[00:53:43] Here on podcast to come not a lot going on right here this week with the ones who live has ended invincible has wrapped up.
[00:53:53] A lot of shows kind of off and stuff now of course some rewatch stuff still going on you can check out still slang with Penny and Cara.
[00:54:02] As they're still going through season three of Buffy they're in on episode 14 this week titled bad girls so you can check out that episode.
[00:54:10] See and then if you want to check out what is from over there with Lizzie and Alex they are going back to covering some more of their stuff a little bit of a rewatch on the episode Silhouettes.
[00:54:21] And then they're going to also be giving kind of a recap they have been busy so you know Lizzie's been doing stuff with different conventions and stuff so she's giving a little bit of catching up on that stuff as well doing all kinds of stuff.
[00:54:35] So yeah check that out as well.
[00:54:39] And then also I don't know exactly when or where what feed probably the house podcast to defeat but I know Jason and Ben and maybe another person within due time so keep you know stay tuned and I'll let you know for sure when it's set and it's available.
[00:54:55] But the new Amazon Prime series fallout just dropped this week and they will be covering I think just one episode doing the whole season just kind of a little conversation of the whole season and one not going episode by episode.
[00:55:07] So probably a week or two to make sure everybody has time to kind of binge through and watch the season eight episodes and then talk about it so stay tuned and I'll let you know for sure.
[00:55:17] I'm about halfway through it right now and I'm loving it so I'm excited to see what they have to say about it as a season.
[00:55:25] And I know season two is already I think was Greenlit before it even dropped the first day so it's like and I wasn't sure Amazon likes to do that sometimes but after watching just the pilot episode even I was like no that's a great idea and more of this is incredible.
[00:55:37] I went into it with zero expectations.
[00:55:40] I was like a video game adaptations are they really now they're getting better for sure.
[00:55:45] Yes, absolutely.
[00:55:46] The last of us I actually saw an article weird tangent that the creators that Jonathan Nolan Lisa Joy or behind fallout which they did Westworld so come on.
[00:55:56] And they even said like it was the last of us that really its success and seeing how a video game adaptation can be done correctly is really what was the catalyst for getting fallout to happen so that's really cool.
[00:56:09] Well you know Craig Mason is golden whatever he touches like he has done some incredible things Chernobyl was one of the best miniseries I've ever seen.
[00:56:21] And for him to be working on this you know it's going to be good so I'm not surprised that Amazon decided to invest in having this adaptation of fallout given Mason success and the amazing you know last of us.
[00:56:43] Yeah.
[00:56:44] So hopefully the days of just going oh god video game movies it's going to be terrible.
[00:56:48] Hopefully those days are over or not even just movies but TV shows and things.
[00:56:53] We're moving forward because yeah the last of us and now fallout is great speaking of video game adaptations you might we might have something for you in just a little bit but.
[00:57:02] Lots of great stuff in that realm so that's really cool so again if you are watching fallout you're excited about that stay tuned to let you know when their coverage of that season comes up and if you're not watching it watch it it's great.
[00:57:13] Lastly give a little love to our friends over at TV podcast industries going through all the stuff like I said invincibles wrapped up you can catch their coverage of that final episode.
[00:57:24] Bad batch is kind of wrapping up as well soon I believe I'm behind on it but I'm trying to catch up and then show gun as well as got a couple more episodes and they are covering all three of those shows got that stuff going on so you can check out their coverage.
[00:57:38] Great stuff over there as well but as I kind of tease you always come back here next week definitely what do we got going on next week over on for your lives well in the eerie halls of Freddie fazbear's pizza.
[00:57:52] Nightguard must survive the relentless pursuit of animatronic monsters each with their own sinister secrets to uncover the truth behind the haunting mysteries of the restaurants past.
[00:58:04] As the darkness deepens and the animatronics behavior grows even more erratic the line between reality and nightmare blurs leaving only terror in its wake.
[00:58:16] We are covering the 2023 film five nights at Freddy's so Paik alluded to a little video game film adaptation connection.
[00:58:29] Only this time we are doing something we have never done on this podcast before we're joined by a special guest but we're not going to give you any more information than that.
[00:58:41] Yeah that's the special we've never had a guest on this.
[00:58:44] No we've done that but this one's a little different yeah like Daphne said but you'll just have to tune in next week to see what we mean by that it'll be something fun for sure.
[00:58:55] Yes absolutely it was such a blast I had fun even just editing that episode because it was yeah it was a lot of fun.
[00:59:06] Yeah and then I will give some heads up I guess for the episode I like to promote these when we can this way because as dark as it is a dark story in a dark movie but.
[00:59:17] Five nights at Freddy's it is you know marketed as a family friendly horror in a way and so to kind of fit with that we will go ahead and let you know that the episode is free from all curse words and things so it is one of our rare episodes where younger ears are safe around the episode just so you know just in case.
[00:59:39] Absolutely.
[00:59:41] So Peg you were just talking about fallout being green lit for season two you know what else got a season two.
[00:59:49] Monar I'm so excited there may even be some spin offs it seems Apple is going all in on the monster verse so nice it'll be legendary.
[01:00:03] Yes it will and with that we've reached the end of our episode thanks everyone for listening I'm Daphne and I'm fake and if you have to run you'd better run for your lives.
[01:00:20] Bye bye.
