[00:00:00] You're listening to the Run for Your Lives Podcast.

[00:00:31] Hey everyone, welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.

[00:00:35] And I'm Paik.

[00:00:36] And this is the Run for Your Lives Podcast.

[00:00:40] This episode we will be talking about the supernatural horror film Five Nights at Freddy's

[00:00:45] directed by Emma Tammy and released on Peacock October 26th and theatrically on October 27th last year 2023.

[00:00:53] I'm so excited to talk about this one. We've been kind of putting it off because we wanted to have a special guest on to talk about it because neither one of us play the games.

[00:01:03] We don't know anything about this.

[00:01:05] This was my first foray into anything Five Nights at Freddy's. And so we're looking for some kind of expert, somebody who might know something.

[00:01:14] And we found a good friend here, Jack. Welcome to the show.

[00:01:19] Hi, all.

[00:01:20] Hey, Jack.

[00:01:22] We're super happy to have you with us because like we just said, Paik and I don't play the games.

[00:01:27] Although I will say I think I might like to. It seems a little fun. Like it could be fun.

[00:01:34] Yeah. So Jack, what are your favorite things about the games? Try to sell Daphne. She's already wanting to play a little bit. Why does she need to?

[00:01:42] My favorite thing about the games are the... it's supposed to be scary.

[00:01:49] Supposed to be. So you're not scared. You're pretty brave playing those. They don't they don't scare you too much at all.

[00:01:54] Wow.

[00:01:55] That's cool. Yeah, I don't get scared by games.

[00:01:58] Usually this one looks like it could be a little scary. There are a few moments, especially that cupcake.

[00:02:05] That little cupcake looked dangerous.

[00:02:08] Harle?

[00:02:09] Is that his name?

[00:02:11] Yeah, it is.

[00:02:12] Nice.

[00:02:13] Oh, I didn't know we even had a name. See this is why we have you on here with us because we don't know.

[00:02:21] Yeah. Yeah, I definitely got questions for you about a lot of characters and things because I know a lot of these are from the games and even there's books and all kinds of things.

[00:02:32] There's a whole world that I was not aware of.

[00:02:35] Have you read all the books?

[00:02:37] No, only like two of them. Maybe three. Yeah, I have three of them.

[00:02:41] Wow.

[00:02:42] What do you like about the books? Do they like the movie or like the game?

[00:02:48] Well, there's only one of them that's based off the first book, the movie from the first movie.

[00:02:54] Yeah.

[00:02:55] Silver Eyes.

[00:02:57] That is cool. I heard they're going to make some more movies.

[00:03:01] I think they signed a contract for like three movies.

[00:03:06] Yes.

[00:03:07] That would be cool.

[00:03:08] The guy, Matthew Lillard who plays the really bad guy, Steve or whatever his name was, the bad guy, he signed a three movie deal.

[00:03:23] So I think he's going to be around to cause some more trouble.

[00:03:27] Yeah.

[00:03:28] I was wondering if we're going to get to see more of this and sequels and it looks like it is in development right now, at least a second movie that they're looking at releasing in the next year or two, 2025 or 2026 release.

[00:03:41] It's well, bad guy's name is William Afton.

[00:03:48] Okay.

[00:03:49] It wasn't Vanessa his daughter? Is that like that in the game or in the book?

[00:03:55] It's in the movie but not the book.

[00:03:57] Yeah.

[00:03:58] So that little bit of information with Vanessa being William Afton's daughter, that's brand new for you watching the movie.

[00:04:07] Yeah.

[00:04:08] That's cool. What did you think about that as a twist?

[00:04:12] Well, I didn't really care.

[00:04:17] Doesn't change a whole lot for you?

[00:04:19] No.

[00:04:21] So how is it, how is the character of Vanessa different than if you don't know that about her then how does she come across in the game?

[00:04:28] I think she's in a VR game and then in the books like how do you feel about her character in those things?

[00:04:33] She's a cop in the movie. She's a security guard in the game.

[00:04:38] And I don't know if she was in a book.

[00:04:41] I haven't. I don't know about that.

[00:04:43] So she's probably not in the book that you read?

[00:04:46] Yeah.

[00:04:47] Okay.

[00:04:48] That makes sense.

[00:04:50] Yeah.

[00:04:51] So of course, as we mentioned, so Jack is here to answer a lot of questions.

[00:04:55] I haven't played the games and I think as far as I understand you have played all of them.

[00:05:00] And then you've talked about some of the books you've read and you're just you're a big fan of it and you do have a couple of friends with you as well.

[00:05:07] So maybe they can help.

[00:05:08] So help back up something.

[00:05:10] So you'll be good to have here for any questions that we have because it's a lot of interesting stuff that we still don't know.

[00:05:16] Yeah.

[00:05:17] Well, we're going to start like we always do with a few little behind the scenes things in our production notes section.

[00:05:24] So this movie was filmed in Tarrytown, Laplace, Covington, Metarrie and Shell Met Louisiana, which is I believe around New Orleans.

[00:05:36] It was based on Scott Cawthorn's video game series of the same name.

[00:05:42] The director and Matami wrote the script with Seth Cotterback and Scott Cawthorn.

[00:05:49] So he's had a big part of this movie.

[00:05:52] It's Scott Cawthon.

[00:05:54] Cawthon.

[00:05:55] Okay.

[00:05:56] That's good.

[00:05:58] No R.

[00:05:59] No R.

[00:06:00] Okay.

[00:06:01] That's good.

[00:06:02] You know, I'm from Maine.

[00:06:03] We put ours in.

[00:06:04] We take ours out.

[00:06:06] Who knows?

[00:06:08] I'm in Maine too.

[00:06:11] So as of November 2023, Five Nights at Freddy's became the highest grossing Blumhouse movie of all time.

[00:06:22] The budget.

[00:06:23] That's big because Blumhouse has done a lot of crazy movies.

[00:06:27] Yeah.

[00:06:28] But also with big franchises and stuff including the newer Halloween movies that we've covered and talked about.

[00:06:36] Yeah.

[00:06:37] So the budget for this movie was 20 million.

[00:06:40] But at the box office it grossed 297.2 million.

[00:06:46] That's a huge profit.

[00:06:48] Was 109 minutes long.

[00:06:50] Paik, give us a synopsis.

[00:06:53] All right.

[00:06:54] Well, the troubled security guard begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

[00:06:58] And during his first night on the job he realizes that the night shift won't be so easy to get through.

[00:07:04] Soon he will unveil what actually happened at Freddy's.

[00:07:08] Yeah.

[00:07:10] It's like, I'm sure with Michael or Mike, he just finds out at the end, he finds out what happened.

[00:07:21] Yeah.

[00:07:22] But he doesn't know what's going to happen once he's ex...

[00:07:25] Oh yeah, his brother Garrett got kidnapped at the start pretty much.

[00:07:31] Yeah.

[00:07:32] Yeah.

[00:07:33] I think he wants to solve the mystery of who took his brother.

[00:07:40] Yeah.

[00:07:41] And it's really interesting here in this movie, of course, that the disappearance of his brother or who took his brother just so happens to be connected to the job that he got.

[00:07:52] And part of it seems kind of on purpose as we see here in the movie when William Afton or as he's saying his name is this career counselor of Steve,

[00:08:01] he's telling Mike, you know, about the job and he looks at his last name and he doesn't say it, but he would recognize that last name.

[00:08:09] So you think he gave him this job on purpose because he recognized who he was?

[00:08:14] He finds out what happened there at the end because at the end William says that he killed his brother and he'll do it the next.

[00:08:27] That's basically what he said.

[00:08:29] Yeah.

[00:08:30] Yeah.

[00:08:31] That was a little bit scary.

[00:08:35] I mean, he's wearing that animatronic golden bunny costume.

[00:08:42] Spring Bonnie?

[00:08:44] What's it called?

[00:08:45] Spring Bonnie.

[00:08:47] Spring Bonnie.

[00:08:48] Okay.

[00:08:49] So he's wearing that spring Bonnie costume and he looks like he's going to do really bad things.

[00:09:00] Kinda because he killed children.

[00:09:02] Right.

[00:09:03] Yeah.

[00:09:04] That's pretty scary stuff.

[00:09:06] Yeah, so when you're playing the games, you don't know any of that stuff as well.

[00:09:10] So is that a big mystery that you have to figure out or is that a big reveal that when you find out who he is and what he did?

[00:09:17] Is that shocking in the game?

[00:09:18] Is that a big twist?

[00:09:20] Well, it's in the many games that happened towards your finish.

[00:09:24] I haven't got to that point yet.

[00:09:26] Okay.

[00:09:28] I know about it though, a lot about it.

[00:09:31] Yeah.

[00:09:32] That's what we're counting on.

[00:09:33] Yes.

[00:09:34] So yeah, what we like to do when we talk about the movie of course is break things down really by character.

[00:09:40] Of course there's a lot of stuff going on so we'll bounce around a little bit.

[00:09:44] But we'll look at kind of the stories of each character as we go through or different story lines.

[00:09:49] But as we talk about that, again Jack, anything you want to talk about if you want to correct anything or you want to add a little bit of something that you know about it.

[00:09:59] Absolutely, Chai Min, we'd love to hear from you.

[00:10:02] But the first thing we're going to talk about is going to be the character of Mike.

[00:10:06] He is the main character and from what I understand even in the games you are playing as Mike.

[00:10:12] Yeah.

[00:10:14] You are playing as Michael in the games.

[00:10:17] Like almost every game, except for Five Nights at Freddy's Ultimate Custom Night because they put William Afton to like their through what happened to them pretty much like L pretty much.

[00:10:32] Wow.

[00:10:35] Maybe I want to play that game.

[00:10:37] That sounds like fun because he was mean.

[00:10:40] Yeah, more payback than he even got at the end of this movie.

[00:10:43] So basically you can choose what animal you want to come after you and stuff.

[00:10:50] Really?

[00:10:51] That's interesting.

[00:10:52] If you survive the night you can get points.

[00:10:56] Like if you put a ton of them on and survive you might get a lot but if 20 is the maximum they make like for the time we wait.

[00:11:09] Wow.

[00:11:10] I can't imagine trying to run away from 20 of them.

[00:11:14] And there's that many different characters so we only saw just a few characters in this movie, huh?

[00:11:20] Yeah, just fun.

[00:11:22] Wow.

[00:11:23] What are some of your favorites that you didn't see in this movie?

[00:11:26] Are there certain animatronics or characters that may be in the sequel or are there other ones that you think we would like that we haven't seen yet?

[00:11:33] It's going to be like Bonnie, Chica, all of them but withered versions and the new ones, Boy Freddy and all that.

[00:11:44] Oh so it's kind of different versions of the characters we saw?

[00:11:49] Yeah.

[00:11:50] Oh, that's cool.

[00:11:53] They have different variations.

[00:11:55] That sounds very cool.

[00:11:57] Yeah.

[00:11:58] Alright so with the movie again talking about Mike here in the movie at least that's what we know is that's what we've seen but we see him trying to take these jobs.

[00:12:07] He's taking care of his sister.

[00:12:09] We learn that, you know,

[00:12:12] Abby?

[00:12:13] Well, you know, he doesn't have their parents aren't around anymore so he is, you know, in custody and the caretaker and stuff for his sister Abby.

[00:12:24] So he's got to take care of her and he's having trouble keeping these jobs because of just a lot of trauma and a lot of things that he's gone through because of what happened with his brother.

[00:12:34] And that he's been kind of on the side doing all these things trying to figure that out.

[00:12:39] He's learned about this way that he can visit his memories and his dreams and so he just sleeps all the time and he's trying to revisit those dreams and get answers and find out what's happening.

[00:12:52] And because of that, he can't keep a job very well.

[00:12:55] And then even when he does have a job, he's just so on edge.

[00:12:59] We see this big mistake that he makes at the mall.

[00:13:02] Again, to be fair it looks a little suspect you see this, you know, he's standing there trying to get ice cream and he sees this little kid being yanked away by an adult.

[00:13:11] And so he has these thoughts that something bad could be happening.

[00:13:14] It just turns out it's the kids dad but because of what happened to his brother you can see why he would be worried.

[00:13:21] Maybe he should have asked some questions before just beating the guy up in a fountain but he had the right idea.

[00:13:26] At least he had good intentions.

[00:13:28] He just made a mistake and did the bad, the wrong thing there.

[00:13:31] Yeah.

[00:13:32] He just punched the beat the dad up.

[00:13:37] And even though he didn't he thought it wasn't just the kid that provided wasn't it was just the kids dad.

[00:13:44] Yeah.

[00:13:45] Yeah, I think it's probably because he hasn't been getting enough sleep.

[00:13:49] So he saw that and it made him scared for the little kid and decided to go rescue him but it wasn't the right thing to do.

[00:14:01] Yeah.

[00:14:02] Yeah.

[00:14:03] And so while he's looking for a job he doesn't want to do an overnight job like working here at Freddy's because he's trying to take care of his sister.

[00:14:10] But at the time he's a little desperate because his aunt is trying to get custody of his sister.

[00:14:17] And he doesn't want that because she just doesn't seem like a very nice person to them and she's just got a lot of ulterior motives about making money and more of the taxes and things.

[00:14:29] And she doesn't really seem to care for them as much.

[00:14:31] They don't have a great relationship.

[00:14:33] So out of desperation he takes this job from Steve who again we gave him this job with kind of bad intentions on his side too.

[00:14:45] Yeah.

[00:14:46] So that he can have something to be able to support him and his sister.

[00:14:51] I mean, yeah.

[00:14:53] Right.

[00:14:54] And before we know what he's really doing before we figure out why he's sleeping so much and trying to revisit his dreams.

[00:15:01] I couldn't help but think just every time.

[00:15:03] It's like man it's his first night on the job and he's already just falling asleep at his desk.

[00:15:07] It's like maybe he's just really bad at his job.

[00:15:11] I feel for the guy but he's really bad at this.

[00:15:15] That's like the one rule is don't fall asleep right.

[00:15:17] Yeah.

[00:15:19] So I have a question.

[00:15:22] Did his brother get kidnapped in Nebraska?

[00:15:26] Is that why he has the Nebraska poster?

[00:15:30] Yeah.

[00:15:32] That's where they went camping I guess.

[00:15:35] Okay because I wondered about that and I didn't understand it and so thank you for clarifying that because I wasn't sure about it.

[00:15:45] Yeah, it seems the process that he has to do, it's whatever is in this book he's reading that teaches him how to revisit his memories as dreams.

[00:15:55] As he has to set things most similar to where they were that he's trying to go back to those memories.

[00:16:01] And so that's why he looks at like the Nebraska poster and has the nature sounds in the music player or whatever.

[00:16:08] It seems like the most like when that place, when that happened.

[00:16:13] You know one of the things that scared me at the beginning of the movie was when he opened his locker and that toy was there.

[00:16:21] Does that happen a lot in the game? Like do you look in places and something jumps out at you?

[00:16:27] Well it's called jump scare but you don't look in certain places.

[00:16:32] You look in the camera and if it like does a static effect that means they're moving.

[00:16:40] Oh, okay.

[00:16:42] It's when they get to your office and then you don't close the door or don't like wear a mask in the second game.

[00:16:49] You'll get to you and like don't scare you like this.

[00:16:53] Oh, okay.

[00:16:54] Yeah and the toy that Daphne was mentioning there that pops up in the locker and it pops up in a couple other places.

[00:17:00] From what I understand that is the balloon boy which I don't know anything about but I wonder maybe you could help us a little bit with that.

[00:17:07] It seems to be something that pops up a lot right?

[00:17:10] Well he just pops up a lot.

[00:17:13] At the end of the movie he pops up in an extra credit scene.

[00:17:20] Yeah.

[00:17:21] It's supposed to be funny and it kind of is.

[00:17:25] Yeah, he pops up in the taxi cab there that poor cab driver which from what I understand I don't have his name but the actor that plays the cab driver isn't really much of an actor as much as I believe he is a YouTube and Twitch streamer

[00:17:39] who plays a lot of Five Nights at Freddy's.

[00:17:42] They actually took a lot of famous streamers or a couple at least and put them in the movie like the waiter at the diner was MatPat I believe.

[00:17:50] Yeah.

[00:17:51] Have you Jack ever watched any of the videos that the others have done?

[00:18:00] The ones that had cameos in the movie?

[00:18:02] Have you ever watched any of their videos?

[00:18:05] Yeah.

[00:18:06] Do you think that they do a good job with the game when they're playing?

[00:18:11] A lot of them do. Some of them don't.

[00:18:14] Which that can be fun too to watch people who are bad at the game because you can kind of laugh at that.

[00:18:20] So do you have a favorite streamer or anything that you watch regularly that plays Five Nights?

[00:18:25] It just something went off.

[00:18:26] Oh okay.

[00:18:28] I do have a favorite streamer but I don't really watch Five Nights at Freddy's streams.

[00:18:34] I watch the videos and some things.

[00:18:37] Oh okay.

[00:18:38] Got it.

[00:18:39] Who do you like as a streamer?

[00:18:41] Like anyone.

[00:18:42] So if you don't watch a lot of Five Nights at Freddy's videos what's your favorite game to watch streams of?

[00:18:47] Like maybe any game.

[00:18:50] Any game.

[00:18:51] A lot of the bigger streams it was not Five Nights at Freddy's.

[00:18:55] Fortnite obviously or what's another big game that a lot of people stream.

[00:19:02] I mean do people still stream Minecraft?

[00:19:05] Not really.

[00:19:07] Not as much.

[00:19:10] Right.

[00:19:11] See I don't know a whole lot of big streamers.

[00:19:13] No Markiplier is a big streamer.

[00:19:14] What is he playing a lot lately?

[00:19:17] Yeah.

[00:19:20] Which I heard that Markiplier was also supposed to make a cameo in this movie and he ended up not being able to

[00:19:26] because he was working on a different movie or a different thing.

[00:19:31] He was working on his own movie.

[00:19:34] Yeah.

[00:19:35] Oh have you seen that movie?

[00:19:38] No I didn't.

[00:19:39] I don't think it came out yet.

[00:19:41] Oh okay.

[00:19:43] Yeah but maybe we'll get Markiplier in the sequel then if he's got time.

[00:19:47] Yeah because he played a lot of the games on his channel and so they wanted people that had played a lot of

[00:19:55] Five Nights at Freddy's and streamed about it to be in the movie.

[00:20:00] Yeah they have a lot of people that are but not many people are in them.

[00:20:06] Yeah it's a very small cast kind of.

[00:20:10] It's yeah it's small.

[00:20:13] Peg did you know that the animatronics were done with puppets and it was by like Jim Henson's.

[00:20:21] They were no much.

[00:20:23] Yeah they did it like the same people who does you know the Muppet show or

[00:20:29] Fraggle Rock.

[00:20:31] Apparently Fraggle Rock has a new show on Apple TV that season two is starting soon and I just found that out today.

[00:20:36] Oh my gosh.

[00:20:37] I didn't even know there was a season one.

[00:20:38] I loved Fraggle Rock.

[00:20:40] Speaking of just hit Jim Henson stuff.

[00:20:43] Fraggle Rock was fun.

[00:20:45] That theme song gets in your head and it doesn't get out.

[00:20:48] It does.

[00:20:49] Down to Fraggle Rock.

[00:20:51] You know there were parts of this movie that reminded me a lot of a few other things like

[00:20:57] a puppet master.

[00:21:00] This show called Channel Zero had a season called Candle Cove.

[00:21:05] Some of it reminded me of Saw and some of it also reminded me of Black Phone.

[00:21:10] Especially the opening to the whole thing.

[00:21:14] The whole opening sequence where it's like a digital thing and the kids are disappearing.

[00:21:22] Yeah remind me of that.

[00:21:25] Yeah.

[00:21:26] So talking about those kids I remember seeing Mike's dreams and wondering what was up with that.

[00:21:31] You know he's visiting different things but because he's here in this place of Freddy's

[00:21:36] that the ghosts of these kids are also in that place with him and so they kind of

[00:21:41] are able to inhabit his dreams so he meets these kids in his dreams and it took me

[00:21:46] a little bit to figure out what they were about.

[00:21:48] They're not trying to do anything but it's William who's controlling them to do it.

[00:21:53] Yeah.

[00:21:54] Oh okay.

[00:21:56] So he can...

[00:21:57] With the pictures on the walls like inside the picture real.

[00:22:02] Fake things.

[00:22:03] He's telling them stories that aren't fake.

[00:22:05] So he's telling them things that aren't true to get them to do things because they've

[00:22:10] forgotten what he did.

[00:22:13] You actually put in the sh** for so long.

[00:22:18] Oh okay.

[00:22:20] That's interesting.

[00:22:22] So the little bit maybe that's in those kids that still might remember some things.

[00:22:27] They're able to kind of reach Mike in his dreams and he's trying to ask them what's

[00:22:31] going on and they just run away because they don't know as that much either.

[00:22:37] They seem friendly though when they meet Abby.

[00:22:40] They seem really friendly to her.

[00:22:43] Yeah because she's a kid and she's...

[00:22:48] But the ones like William Afton does not...

[00:22:52] Once William Afton starts to control her the animatronics they want to start killing.

[00:22:59] Yeah.

[00:23:00] Oh do you think that William knew that Mike had a sister and that's why he found him

[00:23:09] that job?

[00:23:11] Yeah.

[00:23:12] No because he's his brother.

[00:23:14] Oh yeah.

[00:23:15] And he knows a family name.

[00:23:17] Oh.

[00:23:19] That was my friend.

[00:23:21] Yeah that's good.

[00:23:22] So we got networking.

[00:23:23] We got a team here.

[00:23:24] Yeah that's good.

[00:23:25] I like it.

[00:23:26] That's good.

[00:23:27] We like a round table discussion.

[00:23:28] Yeah so I think it was probably both things.

[00:23:31] I think he recognized last name and maybe he figured out that...

[00:23:36] Maybe his daughter told him but I don't know.

[00:23:39] The whole thing with Vanessa I got a little bit confused.

[00:23:43] Right.

[00:23:44] I got some thoughts on Vanessa when we get to her that I was curious about.

[00:23:48] But yeah but with Mike he's learning things as he's sleeping which again I mean not very

[00:23:54] good at his job but as far as figuring out things and working on stuff he needs to I guess

[00:24:00] what he's doing is good for him.

[00:24:02] Terrible for career but it's good for him so we'll take that.

[00:24:07] But yeah he's just trying to find things out.

[00:24:10] What's crazy is how it's connected to her while he's having these dreams and he's

[00:24:13] chasing these kids trying to get answers from them and then if like the kid that's like possessing

[00:24:20] Foxy slashes him with the blade and then when he wakes up he actually has cuts on him so.

[00:24:26] Yeah because you can see the shadow of Foxy right after that happens.

[00:24:32] Right when he wakes up.

[00:24:33] Cause when he was asleep Foxy did that and then ran out.

[00:24:38] Yeah.

[00:24:39] Oh wow I didn't even notice that.

[00:24:43] I've only seen this like twice so yeah I didn't notice.

[00:24:47] I'm gonna have to watch it again to see what else I missed.

[00:24:51] Yeah and eventually he ends up having to bring his sister there as we talked about that she kind of gets along with the animatronics.

[00:24:59] That's because even though he didn't want to take the overnight job he did because he had to and then he left her in the care of Max her babysitter who there's a whole other thing with her.

[00:25:09] Yeah there was some.

[00:25:10] They basically wanted to get him his job like they wanted to get him fired.

[00:25:17] Yeah because his aunt Jane wants to take Abby away and that I thought was mean she tells him at one point you'll never see her again and I thought that was very mean.

[00:25:30] Yeah now what about in the games and books and stuff there is that kind of story the same do you meet Mike's.

[00:25:38] Does he have a sister do you meet her sister in more of his family is that stuff.

[00:25:42] He doesn't have a sister well he does with this in in the games he has a sister but obviously something has to happen.

[00:25:52] But in the books Mike's like Mike is not really in the books.

[00:25:57] Okay.

[00:25:58] Oh the books are just based off their own thing pretty much.

[00:26:03] Oh so they're separate.

[00:26:05] Yeah.

[00:26:06] Do they tell more of the backstory of maybe the the ghosts or William Afton or the animatronics.

[00:26:12] Yeah they tell more of the story back stories and what happened to them when it got.

[00:26:17] That's interesting.

[00:26:19] So do they go over why Freddie faz bears is closed.

[00:26:25] No they don't go over why it's closed.

[00:26:28] They really don't go over the missing children's incident part but they just go over the other stuff just maybe what happens.

[00:26:38] Yeah.

[00:26:39] Okay.

[00:26:40] Probably tell a lot of stories of different security guards that don't have as good of luck as Mike right.

[00:26:47] Yeah.

[00:26:49] Yeah so Max ends up disappearing on her own.

[00:26:54] Through that plan to lose Mike's job for him things go a little badly for her and her brother and their friends.

[00:27:04] So.

[00:27:06] I was happy when that happened.

[00:27:08] I clapped when that happened because they were bad.

[00:27:13] They were all bad.

[00:27:15] Yeah I did wonder though if he's trying to make him lose his job the brother especially so you're going to trash the place but when he's not at work so it's not actually his responsibility so.

[00:27:27] When he's not at work to make it look like he did it or something.

[00:27:32] Oh okay.

[00:27:35] I don't think they got fired.

[00:27:37] They got themselves killed instead.

[00:27:41] Yeah.

[00:27:43] Yeah Max went up there to try to do some dirty work for Aunt Jane and end up having to split quite literally which.

[00:27:55] When I saw that I was like oh no who's going to babysit Abby now.

[00:28:01] Well it worked out because honestly I think William wanted Abby to come to the restaurant.

[00:28:11] Yeah.

[00:28:13] He was gone.

[00:28:15] And so you know I know he has no other choice there's no babysitter and he's got to make money he's got to have his job.

[00:28:22] But I was thinking I'm like yeah let's bring the little girl to the place that was shut down because of a bunch of mysterious child disappearances.

[00:28:32] That doesn't make much sense really.

[00:28:34] Doesn't seem like a great idea but.

[00:28:36] No.

[00:28:37] You gotta do what you gotta do.

[00:28:39] Yeah.

[00:28:41] And then even when his sister there he's still falling asleep on the job.

[00:28:45] Dude really come on man.

[00:28:48] Well and Jack I need you to answer this question.

[00:28:52] If you were there with someone would you be able to stay in the room or would you want to go out of the room and run around?

[00:29:02] I want to run around.

[00:29:04] Exactly.

[00:29:05] Exactly.

[00:29:07] He should have known that she was not going to stay in the room.

[00:29:11] Of course she was going to go play.

[00:29:13] It's like Chuck E Cheese.

[00:29:16] It's like one of those places.

[00:29:18] Of course you're going to want to run around and see everything.

[00:29:21] But Chuck E Cheese kids want to destroy everything.

[00:29:25] Oh.

[00:29:28] Is that what it's about?

[00:29:30] Okay.

[00:29:32] I feel like Chuck E Cheese just every kid there just wants to throw something out the window or something.

[00:29:39] Oh my goodness.

[00:29:41] It's just a mad house at Chuck E Cheese.

[00:29:43] I've been there before.

[00:29:45] I've been there before.

[00:29:46] It's really crazy.

[00:29:48] Especially if it's a birthday party.

[00:29:50] Everyone's just running.

[00:29:52] It's crazy.

[00:29:54] I think there was like a play house or play place inside of one of them.

[00:30:00] I think that's why they took it out.

[00:30:03] Yeah.

[00:30:06] That makes sense.

[00:30:08] Crazy stuff.

[00:30:10] And then as we mentioned, Abby, she must be very brave because those things, even if they're being nice to you, they look terrifying.

[00:30:19] Those are some scary big animatronics.

[00:30:22] And the fact that she's just playing with them and became their new best friend.

[00:30:26] She's got to be a brave kid for sure.

[00:30:30] Jack, would you be scared?

[00:30:32] Not really.

[00:30:37] You don't think you'd be scared of any of them?

[00:30:39] I don't know.

[00:30:40] That cupcake I'm telling you.

[00:30:42] Some of them seem pretty scary.

[00:30:45] Freddie looks like he could have a friendly face and maybe like Bonnie, but Foxy's scary and I don't know.

[00:30:52] Out of all of them, I agree with Daphne.

[00:30:54] I think the one that is most unsettling to me is that dang cupcake.

[00:30:58] Yup.

[00:31:00] That cupcake.

[00:31:02] Carl, Carl the boy.

[00:31:04] Because you don't know where it's going to show up next.

[00:31:06] It's kind of like that balloon boy.

[00:31:08] Yeah.

[00:31:10] By the way, his name is balloon boy.

[00:31:13] But that is his name, is balloon boy.

[00:31:16] Yeah.

[00:31:18] Oh, okay.

[00:31:19] That makes sense.

[00:31:20] Wow.

[00:31:21] That's nice.

[00:31:22] So I wonder is there any backstory because so it's Carl the cupcake you said and then Chica always has the cupcake.

[00:31:28] So are they always connected in their backstories or just kind of how it works out in this movie?

[00:31:33] Like not, the cupcake and Chica are connected because the cupcake is the dog of Chica that William kind of...

[00:31:45] Interesting.

[00:31:46] A dog.

[00:31:47] That kind of makes sense.

[00:31:48] That's why it looks like it's the cupcakes trying to buy everything.

[00:31:54] Oh.

[00:31:56] That makes a lot of sense because I had a note here in my notes for this podcast.

[00:32:00] He lowered the Chica in by or the ghost of Chica in, or yeah, by saying that her dog was in there and it's just her dead dog in there.

[00:32:14] Wow.

[00:32:15] That's dark.

[00:32:16] That's really diabolical of him.

[00:32:19] Oh, he is evil.

[00:32:23] I definitely want to play a game where I can chase him down.

[00:32:28] I need that game.

[00:32:31] I need to play it.

[00:32:32] Yeah.

[00:32:33] You see this is great reason we have you and your friends here on because that's great information.

[00:32:38] I honestly did not know because I was thinking I was like man some poor kid ended up possessing the cupcake.

[00:32:43] He got the short stick in that situation.

[00:32:45] Yeah, nope.

[00:32:46] But if it's a dog, that's even more interesting.

[00:32:49] That's sad.

[00:32:51] It's very sad.

[00:32:54] Oh no, I'm...no.

[00:32:57] William needs to go.

[00:33:00] That's usually what happens is I get to a point where I just say that anyone that's bad in these movies, I want to see them go.

[00:33:09] They need to go.

[00:33:12] Yeah.

[00:33:13] Yeah, so Abby seems to get along with them and it's weird.

[00:33:15] Again, Vanessa plays along, they build the fort and she seems all happy but then afterwards she tells Mike to never bring Abby back there that she knows something could happen to her.

[00:33:26] She doesn't trust who we learn is her dad that as you said has control over these animatronics and these ghosts that she knows that Abby wouldn't be safe if she kept coming back.

[00:33:39] And so she threatens Mike and tells him you don't bring her back here.

[00:33:43] Yeah.

[00:33:44] And so then Abby stays back with Aunt Jane, there's that backup.

[00:33:50] Unfortunately, Mike does have to call Aunt Jane into the situation to at least babysit Abby while he works.

[00:33:56] And I feel like I can relate with Abby, I'll agree with her.

[00:34:01] You know, it's like in what world does a good idea start with calling Aunt Jane?

[00:34:04] Right?

[00:34:05] Never.

[00:34:06] It doesn't sound like a good idea at all.

[00:34:07] Never.

[00:34:08] It's never a good idea.

[00:34:09] Not a good idea.

[00:34:10] No, but again, it's that you have to do what you have to do.

[00:34:15] And the next thing that he has to do is he goes back and again, he goes to sleep on the job only this time I guess it's a little better because it's during the day he's not actually like clocked in and supposed to be working.

[00:34:26] It's not a shift so I guess he can go there and sleep then.

[00:34:30] But it's time for him to really try to get some answers during the day.

[00:34:35] And that's when things get a little haywire.

[00:34:39] We find out that maybe the ghost kids aren't as friendly as we thought.

[00:34:44] Again, maybe it's just the control of William Afton, but that they want him to bring Abby back because they want to make her like them and keep her there to play forever.

[00:34:56] And he doesn't like that, obviously.

[00:34:58] Like he says yes at first because I don't know if he doesn't understand what they want exactly or if he's just trying to appease them for a little bit and tell them so so he can then do something different later.

[00:35:10] But then when he realizes how serious it is, he does tell them no and obviously they're not happy about that.

[00:35:17] Luckily he escaped the old face blades and manages to run away from them and stuff a little bit.

[00:35:25] But yeah, it becomes kind of a really scary situation because now the animatronics that seem to be friendly with them and playing with them and I thought maybe they only hurt bad people but because they're under this control now they've turned on him and his sister.

[00:35:42] They hurt people that look like William Afton.

[00:35:45] Oh.

[00:35:47] They're probably not.

[00:35:49] They think because they think that the night guard or something is William Afton.

[00:35:57] Oh, so they get like shirt as he did or something.

[00:36:02] So they get confused?

[00:36:04] Yeah.

[00:36:05] Okay.

[00:36:06] They've been ingrained with a very understandable and healthy although maybe put in the wrong place just distrust and fear of adults which you know what makes sense for them.

[00:36:16] Yep, I don't blame them.

[00:36:18] I have a question Jack.

[00:36:20] When they were in the storage room and there was this animatronic in there that Vanessa told Mike not to go near because it would.

[00:36:33] It would have chopped his fingers off.

[00:36:35] What animatronic is that? Does it have a name?

[00:36:39] I have never, I haven't seen that one before.

[00:36:43] Okay.

[00:36:44] It's like the combination of one I think.

[00:36:47] Okay because I wondered if it had a name and it also looked like they wanted to put Abby inside one.

[00:36:54] They wanted to put Abby inside that one because well not they didn't want to.

[00:37:01] It was William Afton.

[00:37:03] Yes, he wanted to have another child is basically what he was trying to do.

[00:37:09] Right.

[00:37:10] And so Mike has to fight them off which he does pretty good with that.

[00:37:15] He does a good job with learning that electricity as Vanessa tells him is going to be the way to handle that and he's able to dispatch them pretty easily.

[00:37:22] Unfortunately, William Afton comes and revives them and brings them back but Mike does a good job fighting off with electricity.

[00:37:29] So in the games is that a way that you can also maybe not defeat them or kill them but at least hold them off or save yourself?

[00:37:37] Do you fight them with electricity or are there other ways you fight them in the game?

[00:37:41] Well one of the games you shock them with a controlled shock.

[00:37:47] Not really it's just a giant lightning bolt coming out of metal pole or something.

[00:37:53] Oh, okay.

[00:37:55] So that is something they took from the game there then is being able to keep them at bay with the shock.

[00:38:03] That's good but that's about all the notes I have really on Mike and his big story and what I want to talk about with his part of it unless Daphne has anymore or even Jack if you have anything else that you want to say about him or let us know.

[00:38:16] No, I don't have anything anymore.

[00:38:19] Cool.

[00:38:20] Okay. I don't have anything because what comes with Mike's story really ends with Abby and I don't want to talk about that until we talk about Abby.

[00:38:31] Okay, which could be now.

[00:38:34] Alright.

[00:38:35] Because I'm ready to move into that like I said I'm good with Mike but I don't have a whole lot about Abby but some of the stuff we see where they're.

[00:38:42] I feel like even though her and her brother's relationship seems a little strained like she pushes him away and seems to be kind of rude to him.

[00:38:52] I think at the end of the day I really think she's just a little upset because she actually wants to spend more time with her brother and that she's mad at him because he's always working or he's always doing other things.

[00:39:05] Because as a kid she may not understand all the time that the things that he's doing are to take care of her and provide for her and things like that because even though he's spending so much time to make sure she's taking care of,

[00:39:18] the one thing he doesn't do because of that is spend more time with her and that also hurts her feelings and that is also important to her that she spends time with him not just him taking care of her like a dad but she also wants him to be her brother.

[00:39:33] What do you think of that does that make sense? Yeah.

[00:39:36] Yeah I think Abby she's had a very hard time in her life and she and her brother have been through a lot and their relationship is strained but they're still loved there they definitely love each other

[00:39:56] and he wants to keep custody of her but everything that's going on at Freddy's and his lack of sleep is leading him down a path so that he won't have custody of her and she may end up being taken away from him completely forever because that's what their aunt wants to do.

[00:40:19] His aunt wants to take away Abby from her from Mike because they think she thinks she really just wants to do it for money but she thinks that Abby's like has mental issues because she's drawing things that people and stuff which is not true.

[00:40:40] Yeah I think Abby's just very special I think that she has a connection to things that other people don't that she knows these things about the ghost kids and what happened to them and about William Afton she's able to put things together and she speaks with them

[00:40:55] and so I think that she has some kind of special gift or an ability to talk to these ghosts and get the answers that Mike needs and that she wants from them.

[00:41:04] Yeah and Jane looks at it like she's got mental problems like she's not a regular kid like she's dealing with things and she draws all the time and I think like you know it's for the money that's all she really cares about.

[00:41:24] But we get to see Abby throughout this movie connecting with the ghost we also get to see her coming together with her brother and at the end she's in a really good place.

[00:41:37] She has real friends and they are you know she's playing at school and she's doing very very well.

[00:41:52] And she came a long way in a very short period of time.

[00:41:57] And I like the character of Abby being able to help us as the audience figure out a lot of things although I felt pretty smart I guessed a lot of stuff I was like what kind of person would give him this terrible job and then I'm like I bet it was Steve I bet he's the owner of this place I figured out pretty quickly

[00:42:14] and then when when Abby said she talked to the ghost and she mentions a yellow rabbit and I remembered the beginning of the movie where we saw somebody in a yellow rabbit costume taking the kids in just the opening credits.

[00:42:25] Of the movie and I was like Steve I know it's Steve and then we find out his name is not even Steve and then I was like maybe he knows what's going on maybe he took Garrett and those kids and I was like I cracked it I'm a genius figured it all out.

[00:42:39] Yeah he took Garrett and killed yeah yeah killed Garrett.

[00:42:49] So sad.

[00:42:51] It is.

[00:42:53] So it's a good thing that that Mike was able to get some kind of closure and and realize what happened.

[00:43:00] And even though it doesn't change the tragedy and bad things that happen he at least knows what happened and he's able to to have that you know with him to where he can now kind of move on or at least you know move forward a little bit and especially knowing that William Afton maybe got a little bit of justice at the end of this.

[00:43:22] Well at the very end of the movie William it's like he's in the animatronic suit and it's kind of locking or cutting into his body.

[00:43:33] And then the little boy who.

[00:43:37] In was kind of inhabiting or taking over the body of golden Freddy I think is what he's called.

[00:43:47] He kind of closes the door and leaves William inside a dark room.

[00:43:53] Do you think do you think he feels like he got justice like he feels like William is getting punished for being mean.

[00:44:08] Yeah like he closed the door on William because he was just being.

[00:44:15] Yeah okay that's what I was thinking I wasn't sure though.

[00:44:21] Yeah that that little boy who played the ghost kid that possessed Freddie I don't remember his name exactly I don't have it but I recognized him because I'm a big Star Wars fan.

[00:44:33] And he was in a couple episodes of the Disney plus Obi-Wan Kenobi show because he played a young Luke Skywalker.

[00:44:40] He did I thought I had seen him wow that's where I had seen him because I knew I'd seen him somewhere.

[00:44:49] Yeah there's a few casting things that I recognized through here.

[00:44:55] I mean of course Josh Hutcherson as Mike everybody kind of knows who he is he's become a whole meme on his own right now.

[00:45:03] So people know who Josh Hutcherson is but then even through that Vanessa is played by Elizabeth Lail who she plays the character of Gwinnivere Beck in the show you that's on Netflix that I don't think Daphne has seen and I would say I don't recommend you watch it Jack into a way later on.

[00:45:24] She is in that and so I recognized her from that and then also just a small role at the beginning in the mall.

[00:45:32] Mike's security guard friend the real big guy with like the dreadlock hair wherever.

[00:45:38] He was played by a guy named Theo Crane who was in The Walking Dead he played a prisoner named Big Tiny.

[00:45:45] And I've actually met him.

[00:45:47] Oh my gosh before and he's a really cool guy.

[00:45:50] I still remember poor Big Tiny.

[00:45:53] He didn't survive too long but man wow I didn't I knew he looked familiar but I didn't look into it.

[00:46:02] Well Aunt Jane was played by Mary Stewart Masterson who I have seen in a million things from like the late 80s 90s in that time frame.

[00:46:15] She was in some kind of wonderful which was you know an iconic movie of the 80s.

[00:46:23] And Matthew Lillard I mean yeah you know the thing is when I was watching this the first time through.

[00:46:33] I actually made the comment so we're taking career advice from a guy that's known as serial killer from the movie Hackers.

[00:46:44] And yet he's playing a serial killer.

[00:46:46] So it's funny you go to Hackers because my first initial thought obviously is scream.

[00:46:51] Right but.

[00:46:52] No I go to Hackers every time.

[00:46:55] So he's a serial killer being played by a guy who played serial killer in Hackers.

[00:47:02] Yeah.

[00:47:03] Yeah Matthew Lillard is done.

[00:47:05] He's also shaggy in the Scooby Doo live action movies from a while back.

[00:47:12] And he's also in a TV show called Good Girls that I need to finish because it's really great but really good cast in this.

[00:47:21] Yeah and it did really well at the box office so we're going to get that sequel and I'm interested in where they go from here with it.

[00:47:32] Because yeah I thought it was a fun watch.

[00:47:36] I thought I didn't know enough about it and now I feel like I know a lot more.

[00:47:42] And I did I mean I did a little bit of research.

[00:47:45] I mean I found out about Jim Henson and all of that and one thing that I did come across though is that even before the movie came out.

[00:47:57] Jason Blum said that they'd already made back their money because of the streaming and the distribution rights.

[00:48:05] So a twenty million dollar budget you know they were able to make the money back.

[00:48:10] So basically anything that came from it being in the theater was going to be a straight profit.

[00:48:15] That's good.

[00:48:16] It's very smart kind of cool.

[00:48:19] So we want to thank Jack for hanging out with us today and talking about five nights at Freddy's.

[00:48:25] Yeah it's a lot of fun.

[00:48:28] Got some really great insight from you.

[00:48:31] It was really good and yet any other things you'd want to talk about in the future we're always here you know where to find us but yeah.

[00:48:37] You do.

[00:48:38] Thank you.

[00:48:40] Well we're really appreciative that Jack had some time to chat with us today.

[00:48:45] We still have a ton of notes or a bunch of notes to get through so we're going to keep chatting about five nights at Freddy's.

[00:48:54] Yeah absolutely.

[00:48:56] And then maybe if we still come across any more things that maybe confused us or we want to ask Jack about maybe we'll reach back out to him and let you know near the end or whatever kind of if he had some other thoughts but yeah it was great to have him and he's a big fan of it like he said he's played through all of the games and he knows a lot of stuff so it was really fun to bring him on and have fun a little something different.

[00:49:22] Yeah well it was your idea and that's why we were patient and made sure that we did it in a time frame that would work and so yeah so I'm excited to finish the conversation.

[00:49:34] Yeah it was good he stuck around here for almost an hour which man I'm power to him on that because we're going to keep going for a little bit but yeah it was great so thanks Jack again for being here and talking with us.

[00:49:47] And like I told him maybe when we do the sequel maybe he'll come back.

[00:49:52] Yeah maybe we'll get to be a special correspondent for this franchise.

[00:49:57] Yes.

[00:50:00] So yeah I had just not a whole lot left we were on Abby I think and then we go in on our tangent which I mean yeah that's what we do.

[00:50:07] That's what we do.

[00:50:08] We're all about tangents here.

[00:50:11] So as far as Abby the last other little notes I had is when the animatronics turn while she's there and like this final showdown she has to take to hiding in the ball pit and I thought that was really fun.

[00:50:27] I was like a ball pit horror survival scene it's very unique and I love it.

[00:50:33] It is it's not something that you would expect to see so it was cool to get to see her in there and just wondering oh my gosh what's gonna happen because Foxy was closing in.

[00:50:44] Yeah.

[00:50:45] And I had a hard time trying to figure out are they good or bad like what is the thing and I think Jack what Jack said was right.

[00:50:54] I think they were good but when William was controlling them that's when they sliced my cup that's when they were trying to turn Abby into one of them because he was controlling them and they had forgotten what really happened until Abby.

[00:51:12] Yeah.

[00:51:13] Brainwashed yeah I took my notes just while watching for the first time so it's one of those situations where my notes are like trying to guess what's happening and then I'm like well I was very good.

[00:51:23] I'm like well I was very wrong or I was like nope I was right I'm a genius but so with the guesses on first watches on first watch my guess is there as you know the kids Mike sees the kids in his dream.

[00:51:35] But then later when Max and her brother and then break in to try to trash the place Max sees that one boy one of the I think the one that was not Bonnie because Bonnie had like the hat but.

[00:51:50] Maybe Chica or something I don't know they kind of had different ones taking yeah but she sees one of the one of the kids there in the restaurant and so it's like well the kids were.

[00:52:00] Taken.

[00:52:01] So maybe something happened to them you know in relation to the place and then I was like kind of putting together like oh it's all the same this this William Afton this yellow rabbit.

[00:52:10] But I was like do they just have it out for adults only for specific reasons and then that's whenever they start playing with Abby and then even Vanessa and Mike and they're building the fort and they're all like getting along is like this is not what I expected.

[00:52:22] Because I haven't played the games I was like I know you're supposed to survive because the animatronics are evil but I was like but here they seem like they switched up in there very friendly and they only hurt bad people but then.

[00:52:32] After the kids and his dream kind of want Abby I was like never mind there it is that that there's the other foot because William wants Abby yes and so that's what happens one of the things that really.

[00:52:49] It just broke my heart is.

[00:52:53] When Vanessa is revealing that no one could find the kids.

[00:52:58] And it's because where they were.

[00:53:00] Right because nobody would think to look inside the animatronics.

[00:53:05] Yeah as we saw that like these like spring locks hold whatever inside they're supposed to like.

[00:53:11] This like they're designed to hold a part like a performer in the suit but.

[00:53:16] They hold them a lot tighter than they had planned on.

[00:53:19] I thought they were holding them pretty tight and almost too tight.

[00:53:24] Just a little pinch.

[00:53:27] Yeah.

[00:53:29] So yeah that was another just like very dark and crazy twist that you don't expect to see and it's really sad.

[00:53:34] Which even I like the end of the movie the last thing I had with like Abby is just like can I see them again my friends it's like I mean I feel bad for those ghost kids but no you're never seeing them again it's not worth it absolutely not like.

[00:53:46] Go make living friends.

[00:53:49] Well yes she needs to make living friends however I think that.

[00:53:53] I don't know I kind of want her to be able to go see them because those ghost kids deserve to have friends after everything that they've been through however unless the threat of William controlling them is removed.

[00:54:08] It's always going to be a problem.

[00:54:10] Right and I have a feeling that that threats not quite over again.

[00:54:14] Behind the scenes knowing that Matthew Lillard has a three movie deal.

[00:54:18] But then also the ominous I always come back line you know.

[00:54:22] Just makes me think okay how many times have you been reincarnated or reborn who knows I guess we'll see but he was crazy enough to stab his own daughter so.

[00:54:32] Yeah.

[00:54:34] I mean obviously not the best guy.

[00:54:37] No definitely not.

[00:54:40] Yeah which speaking of that I'm ready to move on I guess knows I've got some thoughts about Vanessa I mentioned earlier so you're ready to do that.

[00:54:49] Really the whole time she was just very sus to me.

[00:54:53] Yes it's like man when she first shows up it's like she's super into this whole Freddy's thing she's like offhandedly mentioning the missing kids but then she just moves on.

[00:55:02] She's just sprinkling little bits and pieces of things here and there and she's always hanging around like I.

[00:55:09] Don't trust her and I'm again my brain was like going on first watch trying to figure out I'm like what is her connection is.

[00:55:15] I was trying to think it was like one of the ghost kids because she seems to know she's like oh you found out was like oh yeah.

[00:55:21] The kids are the animatronics are possessed by the ghosts of the kids that William Afton killed and then she's like yeah you didn't know that everybody knows that.

[00:55:31] It's like it's no big deal.

[00:55:33] Right.

[00:55:35] She's not shocked by it anymore which makes me think that it's kind of like those kids who forgotten.

[00:55:41] Like the ghost kids have forgotten she has just learned to live with it and it's another part of life like it's not as big a deal.

[00:55:50] Right so I was thinking it was one of the ghost kids like a sibling of hers or something but then no as we do find out she's the daughter of William Afton.

[00:55:58] Which thing you know she doesn't want to be there she's like machines are dangerous and some like what's what's going on you know I was like Mike I'm like very frustrated with her because I was like just say what's going on stop dropping vague hands and then leaving like.

[00:56:13] Just answer questions because the vagueness is not helping anybody.

[00:56:17] Like stop telling me in your own way like don't go from A to B in a like crazy squiggly line.

[00:56:26] Yeah go in a straight line tell me what it is that you're trying to tell me because obviously I'm not really getting it.

[00:56:33] And I think just her in a way and maybe I don't know if it's supposed to be like this or maybe it's just the writing with the movie trying to like connect things.

[00:56:41] But she just seemed very suspect because I was like yeah she's the daughter of the man who abducted these kids.

[00:56:48] And the truth behind the animatronics is even more horrifying but it's like yeah he has like Afton has a hold on them but maybe like you said is there some kind of hold on her.

[00:56:59] Yeah because like after all these years why wouldn't she have turned him in stopped him like done literally anything else and more than the poor excuse of helping that she has done so far.

[00:57:09] Yeah I didn't understand that.

[00:57:11] I was really suspect of her and then I just you know she said well I'll do more harm than good or I won't be able to help you if I come with you and I'm just thinking what do you mean.

[00:57:25] Yeah so maybe there's some like control that he has because I kept questioning like why do you let these things happen.

[00:57:33] Yeah.

[00:57:35] It was like if you were honest from the beginning with Mike then we wouldn't be in this situation.

[00:57:41] Yeah.

[00:57:43] Don't you know burn the place down turn your dad in there's a million things you can do that you didn't do that what that now has led to this.

[00:57:49] So then like part of me I was like maybe she's the bad person.

[00:57:52] Well and she's got this picture the picture of her with her father and she's holding Garrett's plane.

[00:58:00] That again broke my heart because Mike is getting faced with all of this and I mean he had a very traumatic childhood.

[00:58:13] Yeah of course he's going to have trouble sleeping of course he's probably going to want to sleep all the time anyway like these are the things that I've been thinking about.

[00:58:21] When you deal with trauma it's what happens.

[00:58:26] It's not easy and I feel like Vanessa should have been more upfront.

[00:58:33] Yeah so it's like Vanessa is the real villain of the movie and I was like no actually her father is the real villain.

[00:58:40] And it's like and the animatronics but no because the kids didn't ask for this they even if they've gone pretty bad it's that still on after.

[00:58:48] Right he caused all of this.

[00:58:51] And maybe she was afraid that he does have control over her and she didn't want to be there but in the end she did go to help because she pulls Abby out of the ball pit.

[00:59:03] Yeah yeah I have a note where I just said look Vanessa actually showed up and decided to do something besides be completely useless for once.

[00:59:11] Agreed yeah she's not my favorite character.

[00:59:16] No.

[00:59:19] So that's what I've got on her I feel like kind of run through a lot of things.

[00:59:23] Yeah not too fast but but a lot of the meat a lot of the bulk so this character Steve slash William Afton slash the yellow bunny.

[00:59:31] Matthew Lillard as we've talked about casting stuff.

[00:59:35] Spring Bonnie is what the yellow bunny is Jack told us.

[00:59:39] So I have like a spring or is it like spring trap William Afton stuff like that from what I've looked up.

[00:59:46] Sure there's lots of different names and different things.

[00:59:51] Yeah which is from like those spring locks.

[00:59:54] But yeah he was he was interesting again the as he's reading the name Michael and then he stops it's like there's something he's he's connecting.

[01:00:02] Yep I did like the line whenever he's trying to give Mike the job and Mike says how's the pay and he goes not great but the hours are worse.

[01:00:12] That's not how you sell a job to anyone.

[01:00:15] I love that and it's like yeah it's not sketchy at all this place has been shut down for years so you just go sit there all night.

[01:00:21] It's like who's the weirdo sounding owner that needs this place watched probably because it's him.

[01:00:26] I think it's great that you figured it out right away.

[01:00:29] Yeah didn't take too much but even with that I still think it was fun.

[01:00:35] When it was revealed in the movie I was like yeah I'm good because yes the yellow rabbit William Afton when he arrives he can't be taken out as easily as the others the electric shock didn't work as well.

[01:00:48] No that's when he rise my children brings back up right on wake up my children I have someone for you to play with and I'm just like oh man.

[01:00:57] Man we're in for now.

[01:01:00] Yeah doomed there but then I was like maybe Vanessa's actually gonna do something for the first time in however many years and I guess she does she tries doesn't end super well for her.

[01:01:10] She's a distraction for an amount of time that was necessary Abbie is able to draw the picture.

[01:01:17] Yeah so it works and again I one of the reasons I kind of called it early that he was gonna be the one coming back as this main villain is because of the casting.

[01:01:29] I was like you don't have Matthew Lillard cast in this movie and not have him be a much more major role and especially a creepy role with how well he isn't playing that then just the career counselor like obviously he's gonna be doing something else so it made sense for him to come back.

[01:01:46] As the guy who loves to say two jobs as one.

[01:01:52] You have one job and then two things.

[01:01:55] Two things.

[01:01:57] Imagine.

[01:01:59] Yeah.

[01:02:01] Okay you have one thing to do and you tell them and it's multiple things well that's that that's two things that's three things I get you just know you just do it.

[01:02:11] Yeah it was a fun running joke that he always had one job that wound up being like two things.

[01:02:17] Yeah and then again with it's not really spoke of it's not really dived into exactly how he does it but he does have this ability to make the kids forget that he was the one that took them and hurt them and.

[01:02:32] Then yeah Abbie is able to help them remember everything I was like oh you are in trouble now dude.

[01:02:38] It's about to go real bad yes.

[01:02:40] Real bad and it does those spring locks which as we see kind of like what Jack was saying about you know this one of the games where it's kind of the shoes on the other foot and they.

[01:02:52] I think what did Jack say is like the ghost kids kind of put him through his own personal hell is like what he said where it's like the things that he did and you see that here in this movie it's like the same thing he did to those kids is happening to him where he's getting spring got trapped into one of these suits.

[01:03:05] Yes I liked that you know that that made me happy.

[01:03:08] I was super happy about that it's like okay you're getting some comeuppance for all your terrible deeds.

[01:03:16] So I was very happy to see that I felt like he.

[01:03:21] He had that coming for so long.

[01:03:24] And it was great to see the kids you know be able to witness it will be part of it that made me happy.

[01:03:32] Yeah.

[01:03:34] I like that the way that they see I have it's not a theory but the kids really connected with Abby but I also feel like they connected with Mike to a lesser extent just because.

[01:03:54] They.

[01:03:56] So I don't feel like they communicated outright to Mike but I feel like they communicated with Mike or sent him messages to through Abby through what she drew.

[01:04:08] I guess.

[01:04:10] When the influence from Afton wasn't over them and they were trying to kill him while he was there then then they were because of those dreams and reaching out like they saw him as somebody who was trying to get answers that they.

[01:04:22] Yeah anymore.

[01:04:24] And so again I think as Jack said when William had control over them.

[01:04:30] That's when they were following his evil plans.

[01:04:33] But then they were those great times that he didn't have control over them like when they were building the fort and she was.

[01:04:41] Abby was hanging out with them and having so much fun and connecting with people and it's interesting that she had these imaginary friends at the beginning because I wondered if that was some sort of connection to.

[01:04:53] Like if she already.

[01:04:55] Already have a feeling of these imaginary friends she had were probably like other like ghosts or natural like entities that she was talking to.

[01:05:03] Yeah I think she sees ghosts and.

[01:05:09] You know we didn't really get to see Haley Joel osmenting the whole thing.

[01:05:12] She sees dead people.

[01:05:14] Yeah absolutely totally yeah.

[01:05:18] As far as other characters I don't have a lot of other I've got notes about like the ghost kids animatronics but other people living human characters.

[01:05:30] Not a lot other than just again with Aunt Jane and then Max and her brother and stuff as we see that Aunt Jane and her scared turtle I mean lawyer.

[01:05:39] Oh my God the lawyer can be done.

[01:05:41] He was great the look on his face when they're sitting there with the therapist.

[01:05:47] Yeah oh my gosh he just looked.

[01:05:51] Terrified or.

[01:05:53] Strung out basically.

[01:05:56] That was great yeah yeah they hire Max to babysit in order to get dirt on my man that is low.

[01:06:03] But because he's a good guy they have nothing so then Max and their bad brother.

[01:06:09] Decide they're going to try to make him lose his job by breaking into Freddy's and messing up the place on his watch even though it was after his shift and I still don't know how that works but.

[01:06:19] It's like they're not very smart are they because he is not there and he can't be responsible.

[01:06:25] Of course Vanessa later brings up criminal negligence because he's taking sleeping pills that would make him forget to lock up.

[01:06:31] I'm glad that they included that line because then it was like well that's how you can kind of retcon like how it could fall on him.

[01:06:37] Although Jeff the brother himself wouldn't have known about that so he's still an idiot but you know at least they make it work story wise it's like that's how it could fall on Mike's shoulders is because.

[01:06:48] He's on these sleeping pills he forgot to lock up and then that's how those people came in so.

[01:06:52] Well and he left the sleeping pills there.

[01:06:54] Like I don't know why you would do that.

[01:06:58] But okay don't have time to be carrying them back and forth.

[01:07:03] Oh my goodness so heavy.

[01:07:06] Just let just leave them where I know they're going to be when I need them.

[01:07:09] Yeah.

[01:07:11] Yeah no.

[01:07:12] Yeah Max's little band of thieves going there and doing that I found kind of strange and I was wondering why would Max continue to babysit indefinitely without getting paid and I mean probably James paying her so.

[01:07:29] Yeah yeah she doesn't have to worry about money because at first I thought oh maybe she's doing it out of the kindness for our heart until this all came about and we realized what was going on.

[01:07:40] And there's so much pressure on Mike to provide for his sister.

[01:07:47] That you know he's got a late payment notice on the door and he's in dire straits as far as what he's going to do when he has to take that job.

[01:07:58] And I think honestly Steve slash William knew he was going to have to take that job because he didn't have a choice.

[01:08:05] So the last section I have is just the animatronics and some stuff.

[01:08:10] Talk about some of their scenes and things which this is the one section that I am a little bummed that Jack had to leave us because I've got a lot of little puns and jokes in here that you know dad jokes that would have been great to throw in here with that because

[01:08:26] whether you know with an 11 or 12 year old in here whether he laughed or rolled his eyes I still would have won so.

[01:08:33] And you know that with me you don't get to win.

[01:08:38] No because it when the result when the reaction comes from an actual child that's where it comes in so maybe Jackie if you're listening to this you can let me know these are great jokes or if they're terrible because either way that's what I want.

[01:08:56] But we'll get to those.

[01:08:58] We'll see how this goes.

[01:08:59] You know what you can try.

[01:09:01] You can try.

[01:09:03] I'm not going to guarantee that.

[01:09:06] Yeah and it's not all just that I do want to actually talk about them too I have legit notes but you know early on we learned about these that there's these animatronics that can move around freely which in reality is like that sounds really cool could definitely have some problems besides

[01:09:20] murdery problems like there are other issues that you could have but like the idea of animatronics that can just walk around freely around the place is like that could be cool.

[01:09:30] Yeah I mean I robots I mean what's the problem with that.

[01:09:36] Right nothing could go wrong with it.

[01:09:41] Yeah they are creepy but again it was like why is it the cupcake that makes me the most uncomfortable.

[01:09:47] Maybe I have a love hate relationship with that cupcake.

[01:09:53] You know me I love the creepy stuff a lot so once we start seeing that like like the lightning flash and Foxy's in the hallway like I love that kind of stuff and it's the shadows anything the shadows and background reveals yeah.

[01:10:07] That's that's always the best you know those little glimpses of monsters in the background so like when the group is in there trying to like trash the place you see Chica walk by between the fan blades and you're just like it I do this little excitement

[01:10:21] Giggle when I watch stuff like this is gonna be good.

[01:10:24] You know it all honestly I kept thinking about puppet master.

[01:10:28] Have you ever seen any of those.

[01:10:31] Okay then I know a movie where maybe I've seen some of like.

[01:10:36] The original but it's been a long time you know what I think next season we're gonna dive into it we have to just have to master you have to yeah then you'll understand why cupcake I have this love hate relationship with cupcake.

[01:10:51] Yeah cuz then Chica sends cupcake through the air vents and.

[01:10:57] Yeah death by cupcake that guy got iced.

[01:11:01] You get a very small laugh pink I got a good one again I don't get any reaction from Jack I've always had to leave here but you know I'll take I'll take a laugh from you that one first.

[01:11:13] Cuz yeah you know you guys broke into their place and they aren't happy about it they'll leave you all running screaming and cup quaking with fear.

[01:11:21] Fazbear will faz scare.

[01:11:24] And then that's again when I mentioned Max he's one of the kids so it's like what is up with these kids at that point we learn.

[01:11:34] And then let's see if talked about a lot of these other things throw them in.

[01:11:38] Earlier and unexpected twist is I didn't think that the animatronics could leave the pizzeria but nope apparently Freddie can order an Uber and take a trip to the house.

[01:11:50] He just scan yeah.

[01:11:57] But then yeah the Mike and Abby and Vanessa are able to escape once Abby lets the animatronics realize the truth about what happened to them and they turn on William Afton.

[01:12:08] And there I said what a killer animatronic band they really brought the house down with that final performance didn't they.

[01:12:15] Oh you're really going all out aren't you.

[01:12:22] Oh boy.

[01:12:24] See I got laughter from you so I'll take it.

[01:12:27] You don't get laughed at well no you kind of do a lot of the time.

[01:12:32] But yeah so that's really all that I had we had a couple other little questions for Jack that we didn't get to but actually most of them I did so.

[01:12:39] Yeah I feel like we asked them organically.

[01:12:43] I have a couple of things about the games that I wanted to share the inspiration for Five Nights at Freddy's came from criticism of Scott Cawthon's prior game Chipper and Son's Lumber Company where players found the main character resembling a frightening animatronic animal.

[01:13:02] Initially disheartened and known for Christian oriented games he transformed all of this feedback into intentional horror creating Five Nights at Freddy's.

[01:13:15] That I found really fascinating that he did these happy games and he just said no I'm just going to do something that's terrifying if they're not going to play my nice little sweet game I'm going to terrify the pants off them.

[01:13:29] And it's become a like global phenomenon.

[01:13:33] Yeah yeah.

[01:13:35] It's crazy I mean if you think about how popular the game is and you know how far it's come and it's still like I didn't know anything about this.

[01:13:45] I have gone to my the collectible shop that I go to sometimes to get pop figures and other things.

[01:13:52] I've gone there and seen like the action figures and things I'm like what the heck is this. What is Five Nights at Freddy's. I have no idea.

[01:14:03] But now I feel like I know a lot more about it.

[01:14:07] And I think I think it's kind of cool.

[01:14:12] I like that they didn't use CGI.

[01:14:15] That they you know Jim Henson's creature shop is what they used to create the animatronics.

[01:14:22] And I just think it was really clever what they did to pull this along and the opening was one of the creepiest things.

[01:14:33] I mean oh man.

[01:14:36] I also don't think I'm ever going to listen to talking in your sleep by the romantics again without thinking about animatronic animals singing.

[01:14:52] Right.

[01:14:54] Yeah it did remind me of Chuck E. Cheese a bit. Have you ever been to Chuck E. Cheese?

[01:14:59] Oh yeah.

[01:15:01] Not in a very long time.

[01:15:03] But I have spent time like when I have a young niece now but I don't think we haven't ever done that.

[01:15:12] But no and when I was growing up so it's been a long time but like when my younger brothers were still young young

[01:15:20] and then like having like young cousins and family members.

[01:15:23] So I mean I probably haven't been since I was like early teenage years if you know.

[01:15:29] But yeah but we have one here in town so I have been.

[01:15:33] I think it's creepy.

[01:15:35] I think it's creepy now.

[01:15:37] It's you know kind of ruined Chuck E. Cheese for me now.

[01:15:41] Not that I go there because I don't think we even have one in Maine anymore.

[01:15:47] But yeah I think we've done it.

[01:15:51] All right we've survived all.

[01:15:54] We don't have five nights of this we had to do.

[01:15:56] We just had one hour and a half or so.

[01:15:59] You know we made it through that.

[01:16:01] So I think that's good enough.

[01:16:03] There goes the feedback phone so you can see what some other people have to say about this one.

[01:16:10] All right we've got a little bit of feedback this week but before we get into feedback over this movie

[01:16:16] we do have one more little feedback about our chat episode that we released last week

[01:16:21] from Catherine of course.

[01:16:25] Always love that she come through and give us some thoughts.

[01:16:27] So about that one she says I would love to have an episode or two like this every season

[01:16:32] or perhaps an adventures with Riley segment.

[01:16:35] I was a special Olympics coach during most of high school and college before working as a habilitation tech

[01:16:40] with nonverbal teenage boys on the autism spectrum.

[01:16:43] It was incredibly rewarding but so mentally and physically demanding.

[01:16:45] I admire PIC so much for being a part of Riley's life for over a decade

[01:16:49] and Daphne's pictures are just stunning.

[01:16:51] I loved so many of the facial expressions captured in the motion shots.

[01:16:54] Catherine thank you so much maybe just for you we'll do an episode a season.

[01:17:01] Yeah thanks for the kind words.

[01:17:04] The part of like mentally absolutely work can wear me out mentally sometimes

[01:17:11] but God it is just not like the best thing ever so I totally get that.

[01:17:15] And then yeah Daphne's killing it.

[01:17:19] Photog queen.

[01:17:22] So yeah thanks so I think well you enjoyed it and that we've heard from some other people who also had a good time with that episode.

[01:17:29] So yeah we might start making that a thing here and there because it was fun.

[01:17:32] Yeah it was great.

[01:17:34] I loved being able to show a little bit of the conversation that we have every week when we're talking on here so it's great.

[01:17:44] So getting into the Five Nights at Freddy's feedback we have Megan who says

[01:17:50] I watched this movie Disturbing Concept but how did he do it?

[01:17:55] Are they ghosts?

[01:17:57] I was a little confused.

[01:17:59] I think they're ghosts.

[01:18:01] Yeah that's like ghosts possessing the animatronics but as far as like how he does it and what the connection is

[01:18:10] they didn't really go into that.

[01:18:11] No.

[01:18:13] Maybe Jack would know more, maybe the games explain some of that but that is something that's information and knowledge that me and Daphne are both lacking in so I don't know for sure.

[01:18:26] Yeah I know that there are a couple other movies in the work so maybe we'll get more of a backstory or more information in those.

[01:18:34] And then one more about Five Nights at Freddy's coming again from Catherine.

[01:18:38] I just get to read Catherine feedback this week.

[01:18:41] You do.

[01:18:43] That's pretty great I'm good with that.

[01:18:45] So for Five Nights at Freddy's she says this was my second time watching Five Nights at Freddy's and it was just as much fun as the first maybe a bit more as I missed details like Matthew Lillard as the temp agent and his hesitation on Mike's last name.

[01:18:55] The game series has been on my want to play list for a while and I bet the movie is even better after knowing more of the lore.

[01:19:01] I think we agree with that.

[01:19:03] We got a bit of the lore when we had Jack on the episode.

[01:19:07] Hope you guys enjoyed that because it was a little different concept for us but we had a lot of fun with it.

[01:19:15] I want to play it too because it just seems like there's a lot to know and we've only scratched like the surface of it.

[01:19:26] But I definitely want to play the one where you're going after the bad guy and giving him a taste of his own medicine.

[01:19:36] I'm down for that.

[01:19:38] Sounds fun.

[01:19:40] And I was looking at it.

[01:19:42] I think like the first two games are like eight or nine bucks on the PlayStation Store right now.

[01:19:45] So maybe.

[01:19:47] Maybe we can play it, Paik.

[01:19:50] And then we can report back if we learn something new.

[01:20:28] Yes we do absolutely appreciate that and of course always send me more feedback.

[01:20:34] If you got more thoughts we'd love to hear from you all the time.

[01:20:37] But speaking of sharing the love gotta give those shout outs of things going on in the podcast universe around us.

[01:20:42] So you're right here on podcast.

[01:20:44] Got lots of great stuff.

[01:20:45] Of course over on the cast of us as they were covering The Walking Dead, The Ones Who Live.

[01:20:49] That entire run which was great and now they've got a lot of feedback for that series finale.

[01:20:54] And so the part one of listener feedback for the last time is out this week.

[01:21:00] You can check that out with Jason and Lucy having Randy and Jenny from Welcome to the Apocalypse joining them for that feedback.

[01:21:07] Oh that should be a lot of fun for sure.

[01:21:10] Yes.

[01:21:12] And then over on Revisited, Kristen and Ben still tearing through Ted Lasso season three episode three four five one.

[01:21:20] That's not episode three thousand four hundred fifty one episode three of season three titled four five one.

[01:21:26] So many numbers it's very confusing.

[01:21:28] Yes definitely.

[01:21:30] And then Extraordinary Cast is back covering season two of Extraordinary that is over on Hulu and Disney Plus with season two episode two Hello Stranger this week.

[01:21:42] Then over on the still slaying podcast Cara and Penny talking about season three of Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode 15 Consequences.

[01:21:53] And they have special guest Kirk over there on that one for you to check out.

[01:21:57] Kirk is always a lot of fun to talk about.

[01:22:00] To listen to him talk about stuff and it's very knowledgeable about a lot of great nerdy stuff.

[01:22:06] He's got some cool perspectives.

[01:22:08] Yes.

[01:22:10] And then let's see a little let's see a segue between because it's a connected podcastica and next level with Wilhelm.

[01:22:20] Ben and Jason and maybe somebody else again will know for sure next week I can really give you the download but I know they're recording this weekend so it still hasn't been recorded if you're listening to this as it's released right here on release day.

[01:22:34] They should be recording tomorrow so then look forward to it early next week.

[01:22:39] The Wilhelm and podcastica joint coverage of the Amazon Prime series fallout the entire first season they're just covering all eight episodes in one podcast episode to talk about it as of recording this right now as I'm speaking I have seen seven of the eight episodes I haven't watched the finale yet but I will soon maybe tonight.

[01:22:59] Because it's been so good.

[01:23:02] I literally went in with it like went in with no expectations whatsoever because video game adaptations can be very hit or miss lately so I was like I will see what happens and I was not prepared for how incredibly good it is as a series and season two has officially been green lit and confirmed and we'll get that hopefully before too long.

[01:23:23] I know I have not started it but I've heard that it's binge a mole.

[01:23:27] Yeah very there I mean they're full hour episodes but yeah yeah eight eight episodes and it just keeps you hooked absolutely excellent then I will have to dive into it.

[01:23:39] Yes and then a little bit on the outside of podcast of course we always want you to go check out our good friends at TV podcast industries to see what they're doing as they are continuing coverage wrapping up the coverage of show gun.

[01:23:51] As that season has come to an end I don't know if there's more coming I don't know anything's been confirmed but it's been incredible and definitely go check out their coverage because it's been a great show.

[01:24:02] And then over on a adrenaline cinema mark back over there on that podcast bring in his friend Frank to talk about escape from LA.

[01:24:11] Haven't seen that one in a long time all I can say is I don't think it lived up to the excitement that was in the first one but I could be wrong.

[01:24:21] I could be you know I could be wrong at least in my opinion I guess that's how it is.

[01:24:27] Right yeah Mark has a lot of great opinions about all of those kind of different movies definitely check out that coverage over there to see what he has to say absolutely.

[01:24:35] Then aside from all of that going on you can always come right back here next week as we're wrapping up our season we've only got like four episodes left this season.

[01:24:47] So we've got some fun little movies to throw in to wrap it up so especially what we got going on next week Daphne which is well a young woman navigates a chilling game of survival against a group of sadistic predators.

[01:24:59] Turning the tables in a relentless battle for justice where the hunted becomes the hunter we are covering Tyler Shields 2015 film final girl and I can assure you that wonderful preview that I just gave you is probably getting you excited.

[01:25:19] You'll just have to see what we think of it next week.

[01:25:23] Yeah this is what I had never heard of before so jumped into this one and it's an interesting conversation it's a fun one for sure yeah.

[01:25:33] With that we've reached the end of our episode special thanks to Jack for joining us to break down five nights at Freddy's yeah thanks buddy thanks everyone for listening I'm Daphne.

[01:25:47] And I'm Pete.

[01:25:48] And if you have to run you better run for your lives.

[01:25:52] Bye bye.

[01:26:16] .
