[00:00:00] Hmm? Ah! Hmm.
[00:00:06] You're listening to the Run For Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:31] Hey everyone, welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.
[00:00:34] And I'm Pake.
[00:00:36] And this is the Run For Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:40] And this week it is another holiday special!
[00:00:44] And I almost said Halloween special, but it's holiday.
[00:00:47] But it's weird because again, as you know how we record some of these things.
[00:00:52] This is Thanksgiving! We're covering Thanksgiving, releasing it on Thanksgiving for you.
[00:00:57] But yet we're recording, when we're recording this, it is literally October 31st.
[00:01:02] We are recording on Halloween night to talk about Thanksgiving and it's doing weird things to my brain.
[00:01:09] I know, right? It's hard.
[00:01:13] And we just recorded our Halloween special like a week ago.
[00:01:17] So now I feel like next week we're supposed to record our Christmas special, but we're not.
[00:01:24] We're gonna wait on that for a little bit.
[00:01:26] Yeah.
[00:01:27] Yeah, but scheduling and everything, this is how it worked out.
[00:01:31] Right. So it was weird being, you know, on Halloween day, sitting at home watching Thanksgiving and taking ups on that.
[00:01:37] But, you know, we do what we do. It's still a horror movie. It still counts. It's Halloween enough.
[00:01:42] But yeah, this week, and as you're listening to this, if you listen to the day that it's dropped, it is Thanksgiving.
[00:01:48] If you celebrate here in the United States.
[00:01:51] So happy Thanksgiving to you in that case.
[00:01:54] And we are talking about the slasher film Thanksgiving, which was directed by Eli Roth and released November 17th, 2023.
[00:02:02] That's right. This was last year's movie, but just the way it kind of timed out, we didn't have time to quickly watch it easily and talk about it for Thanksgiving last year.
[00:02:14] So we just held on to it for a full year to do a Thanksgiving special this year.
[00:02:19] Yes. And that means that I've had to wait a whole year to be able to talk to Peg about this one, which is not always fun.
[00:02:26] Mm hmm.
[00:02:27] For me, the one thing about this podcast that has, you know, is not as fun is that sometimes I really want to talk to you about movies.
[00:02:40] And I can't because they're ones we're going to cover and you probably haven't seen it yet.
[00:02:45] But yet I really want to know what you think and and just really have a deep discussion on it.
[00:02:51] So sometimes I have to have patience.
[00:02:53] And anyone that knows me knows I don't have patience.
[00:02:58] So she's not a doctor.
[00:03:00] Nope.
[00:03:02] So we'll kick this off with some production notes.
[00:03:05] It was filmed in Port Perry, Waterdown, Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
[00:03:11] Jeff Rendell wrote the screenplay, and it was the third film based on fake trailer of the same name from the Grindhouse movie.
[00:03:21] Um, which was actually Grindhouse was two films.
[00:03:27] Mm hmm.
[00:03:28] And there were a bunch of trailers that were played in the middle.
[00:03:31] So this was the third film that was made out of that bunch of trailers.
[00:03:37] The others were Machete and another one that I don't know if we should cover it, but I kind of want to hobo with a shotgun.
[00:03:46] Mm hmm.
[00:03:47] Doesn't really fit, but I wanted to.
[00:03:50] Yeah.
[00:03:52] It's, I've only seen that one once.
[00:03:55] And as much as I enjoyed it, I really don't have a lot of, like, need to watch it again.
[00:04:03] Cause it did things to me mentally that I didn't like.
[00:04:08] Oh my goodness.
[00:04:12] All right.
[00:04:12] Well, maybe we won't cover that one then.
[00:04:15] To keep Pake sane and so that he doesn't have to watch it again.
[00:04:20] Mm hmm.
[00:04:21] So the story was further developed by Rendell and director Eli Roth.
[00:04:26] So they kind of fleshed out the story and then Rendell did the script.
[00:04:30] The budget was 15 million.
[00:04:33] The box office gross was 46.6 million was 106 minutes long.
[00:04:40] Pake, bring us that IMDB synopsis.
[00:04:44] Mm hmm.
[00:04:45] Oh, you said that.
[00:04:46] I am the B.
[00:04:48] Interesting.
[00:04:52] One of these letters is just the phonetic sound.
[00:04:55] Which one?
[00:04:57] I am the B.
[00:04:58] Um.
[00:04:59] Oh my God.
[00:05:00] Pake, bring us that IMDB synopsis.
[00:05:03] Is that better?
[00:05:05] Sure.
[00:05:07] This is going to be a fun one.
[00:05:09] All right.
[00:05:11] What can choose that idea?
[00:05:13] Who knows?
[00:05:15] We're just very boring and tired and have nothing interesting to say today.
[00:05:21] After Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts, the birthplace of the holiday.
[00:05:29] Okay.
[00:05:31] Well, that lays it all out there very nicely.
[00:05:34] Yes.
[00:05:36] Mm hmm.
[00:05:37] It's set the table for the, for what's to come.
[00:05:41] Absolutely.
[00:05:44] Yeah.
[00:05:45] How do we cover this one?
[00:05:47] We usually kind of go character by character.
[00:05:49] And as I finished my notes and was compiling them, there's just no way I can do that.
[00:05:55] Like technically Jessica, Jess would be the main character, kind of the, the final girl role of the movie.
[00:06:05] However, I don't, I've got a few notes about some of the stuff she does, but it's very much the bulk, you know, 90% of my notes or whatever is not even necessarily character notes.
[00:06:19] It's, it's, it's a whodunit style character notes.
[00:06:25] I, instead of the character of John Carver or the killer, or, I mean, I guess we'll spoil it because why are you listening to this if you haven't watched?
[00:06:36] That Sheriff Eric, whatever.
[00:06:38] I don't even write down his last name, but the sheriff is, is the killer at the end of the movie.
[00:06:43] Shock and awe and dismay.
[00:06:45] How did, but yeah.
[00:06:48] So instead of like focusing on that, I have just, most of my notes is titled my journey to find the killer and then just murder scenes and John Carver stuff.
[00:06:58] Because I just, I, since this was the first time I see all, I watched this movie, a lot of my notes just in real time.
[00:07:05] I like to like take almost like live tweeting notes sometimes is the way I do the style sometimes.
[00:07:10] So a lot of it is like, wait a minute, is this person the killer?
[00:07:13] I think it might be this person.
[00:07:15] No, now I have reasons to believe this.
[00:07:16] And I was having so much fun with it.
[00:07:18] It was like a little murder mystery of my own where I was like trying to pick up clues and like the things that they kept doing and like little things they were throwing out.
[00:07:25] Because this movie does a really good job of like giving motives to a bunch of different people.
[00:07:30] And they even talk about it.
[00:07:31] Like what Scuba has this thing where he's like, there's so many people with different motives.
[00:07:35] And it's, it was like, yeah, I'm having fun with that.
[00:07:38] A whole section of my notes that I just wanted to go over is literally just to take you on the journey that I went through mentally over this movie of all of the thoughts that I had.
[00:07:47] And I might have figured it out pretty earlier on and then switched from that and then felt vindicated later.
[00:07:55] I was like, oh, I had it way earlier.
[00:07:57] But yeah.
[00:07:58] Yeah.
[00:07:59] This is one that took me a while to figure it out because it kept giving motives and then deflecting.
[00:08:04] Yeah.
[00:08:05] To someone else.
[00:08:06] Which was really cool.
[00:08:07] Very unique.
[00:08:08] I like that.
[00:08:09] Not super unique because it's, I mean, you know, Glass Onion and Knives Out and all that exists.
[00:08:16] Like murder mystery, whodunit books and movies and things has been a thing forever.
[00:08:20] But to have kind of like a silly slasher horror movie and then put in those like murder mystery aspects to it and have them running alongside each other was really cool.
[00:08:34] You know, this is an Eli Roth movie that I actually enjoyed because I have been pumped up about some of his other ones and gone and seen them and been like, oh, why?
[00:08:47] It just wasn't as good.
[00:08:50] I was really intrigued by the Green Inferno.
[00:08:54] Still haven't seen that one.
[00:08:55] And it just, no.
[00:08:58] No.
[00:09:00] Did not live up to my hopes.
[00:09:05] So this one, when I watched it, I wasn't sure what I was getting into.
[00:09:08] And I ended up really enjoying it because, again, you go on a journey trying to figure out who the killer is.
[00:09:16] Mm-hmm.
[00:09:17] You're not really sure who it is.
[00:09:20] And it makes a plausible case for so many different people that right up until the end, you're still like, huh?
[00:09:33] Because I have to say, given some of the things that happened in the movie, like throughout, I paid attention this time because I had already seen it once.
[00:09:46] So I knew who the killer was.
[00:09:47] And so I was looking for hints and things.
[00:09:49] And there are times that it is just not conceivable that Eric Newland was doing all the things.
[00:09:56] Like, it just didn't line up with me.
[00:10:00] So I'm still not sure.
[00:10:02] I feel like there might have been some sort of accomplice that we haven't seen.
[00:10:09] That's, yeah, it's funny.
[00:10:11] We'll go through that.
[00:10:12] I feel like the best way to do it is just for me to, like, go through that journey at some point in this podcast is, like, just read my notes on that.
[00:10:19] And let you and the listeners follow along and join me on that adventure.
[00:10:23] Sure.
[00:10:24] But yeah, no, there's parts of that where I am going, like, is there two of them?
[00:10:28] Like, I do have that, like, wonder.
[00:10:30] Like a Scream scenario.
[00:10:32] Like, is this, like, two killers in Scream?
[00:10:35] Yeah.
[00:10:35] And I wasn't sure.
[00:10:36] Like, because there were so many people that it could have been that, are they working together?
[00:10:42] Is it two people?
[00:10:44] Is it one person?
[00:10:45] What's going on?
[00:10:46] If I remember correctly, like, I know, like, there is a sequel coming.
[00:10:49] So.
[00:10:50] Yes, there is a sequel.
[00:10:51] Well, so they might be able to, to make that a thing to make the sequel interesting, because what really made this movie interesting was not knowing who it was.
[00:11:01] So how do you, how do you continue this and keep it that level of interesting when we know who it is?
[00:11:06] Unless there is another twist, another wrench in the works.
[00:11:10] There's something else to, to guess about.
[00:11:13] Well, given how much fun this one was, I, I want to see what Eli Roth wants to deliver in a second one.
[00:11:21] So, you know, I'll see it.
[00:11:24] Yeah.
[00:11:24] They said 2025 will be the release.
[00:11:28] So I'm expecting a year from now, a year and a month from now, we'll get Thanksgiving 2, or, I don't know, back, Thanksgiving 2, back to the table.
[00:11:39] I don't know.
[00:11:39] Something.
[00:11:40] Some sort of sequel we're getting at.
[00:11:42] Thanksgiving 3.
[00:11:43] They just skipped 2 because it got lots of, oh wait, no, that was Thanksgiving that did that.
[00:11:46] Yes.
[00:11:47] Yes.
[00:11:48] Exactly.
[00:11:49] I have a couple of things I wanted to say off the top.
[00:11:52] Patrick Dempsey is from Maine.
[00:11:54] He got to use his New England accent in this movie.
[00:12:00] He probably had not been able to do that, really.
[00:12:04] I was wondering, is that, is that his real accent?
[00:12:07] Because some of it, is he just really, does he have that strong of an accent and then he covers it up with other stuff?
[00:12:12] Because I was like, man, he is wicked New Englander in this movie.
[00:12:19] But it sounded authentic to me and I was like, okay, this is good.
[00:12:24] Okay.
[00:12:25] You're not sounding like someone trying to be a Mainer.
[00:12:30] Or a New Englander.
[00:12:32] Yeah.
[00:12:32] You sound like one.
[00:12:35] So it may just be that because he hasn't lived here, although he comes to Maine and there are a bunch of different things that he's involved in here.
[00:12:46] He's got a cancer center.
[00:12:51] That maybe he doesn't get to connect with that piece of himself.
[00:12:56] But once you're from New England, it's still in there somewhere.
[00:13:01] Uh-huh.
[00:13:02] Mm-hmm.
[00:13:03] You just have to pull it out every once in a while.
[00:13:06] I mean, I try to hide my accent, but I don't.
[00:13:09] Sometimes I don't do a very good job.
[00:13:11] Like, I have to consciously try.
[00:13:14] Which, why?
[00:13:15] Don't.
[00:13:17] You say that, but...
[00:13:21] I remember Lucy told me she loves my accent, so...
[00:13:24] And that's all that should matter.
[00:13:26] What Lucy says goes.
[00:13:27] We know that in Podcastica.
[00:13:30] We know that.
[00:13:31] That is true.
[00:13:31] If it's Lucy approved, then it's good.
[00:13:33] So, sounds good to me.
[00:13:37] Um, and then...
[00:13:39] I did want to mention that because this did originally come from a trailer that was in between two movies, which I think was Death Proof...
[00:13:51] And Planet Terror.
[00:13:52] And Planet Terror.
[00:13:55] He did...
[00:13:56] I went back and watched the trailer today so I could see.
[00:14:00] He did incorporate some of those scenes into this.
[00:14:03] Oh, nice.
[00:14:04] You know, they're, like, re-filmed and part of the story, but he did take concepts from that and put it into the film.
[00:14:13] So I thought that was cool.
[00:14:17] But I think we can start.
[00:14:20] All right.
[00:14:21] Paik, do you want to lead us through this one?
[00:14:24] Uh, yes.
[00:14:25] Um, where do we, where do we start?
[00:14:27] Um...
[00:14:28] Well, if we're gonna go through trying to figure out who the killer is, we might want to tell why this is happening in the first place.
[00:14:37] Okay.
[00:14:38] I do have just, like, some random, yeah, like, notes about the opening that we can, yeah, do that.
[00:14:43] Um, because those are just kind of other separate notes.
[00:14:47] Yeah, we'll do it that way.
[00:14:48] I'll kick off with, yeah, the two separate family Thanksgiving dinners.
[00:14:51] And then you see how they're intertwined a little bit there where we have the Wright family for, uh, Wright Mart and the owner.
[00:15:03] And kind of getting them this fancy family get-together.
[00:15:06] It was like, yeah, we decided to open up the store.
[00:15:08] But he's not there.
[00:15:10] No.
[00:15:11] Mr. Wright's not.
[00:15:11] It falls on his manager, Mitch, who's got to go in and work and deal with his Black Friday nonsense.
[00:15:19] And so we also get his family dinner, who, which Sheriff Eric is there as well.
[00:15:25] Family friend, maybe a little more.
[00:15:30] Uh...
[00:15:30] Yeah.
[00:15:31] Yeah.
[00:15:32] I didn't see that the first time through.
[00:15:36] Mm-hmm.
[00:15:36] The second time through, I was looking for more, and I didn't really see it then either.
[00:15:41] Yeah.
[00:15:42] Something like just a little twist at the end that they could throw.
[00:15:45] Oh, by the way.
[00:15:46] But it was still nice.
[00:15:47] Yeah.
[00:15:48] But yeah.
[00:15:48] So we see how they kind of intertwine by then Mitch having to go to work.
[00:15:52] And then Amanda deciding to show up to surprise him with some food and Eric being there to do some backup crowd control.
[00:15:59] And everything goes to shit, because that's what it is.
[00:16:03] So it's just like, just to have some notes about the Black Friday stuff.
[00:16:06] Like, I don't understand the insane Black Friday nonsense at this point.
[00:16:10] Like, it's not this bad anymore or everywhere, I don't think.
[00:16:16] Mainly because online shopping exists and they do the same deal.
[00:16:19] So what are these people doing?
[00:16:20] You're insane if you're doing that.
[00:16:22] Just stop.
[00:16:23] Which is why I'm like, I'm not saying people stupid enough to do this kind of thing or asking for it.
[00:16:28] But I'm also not not saying that.
[00:16:34] Stay home and get on Amazon.
[00:16:36] It's so much easier.
[00:16:39] What are you doing?
[00:16:41] This has happened before where someone's been like trampled.
[00:16:43] Oh, yeah.
[00:16:44] Absolutely.
[00:16:46] Because people are, you know, relentless.
[00:16:49] And there were some over the top things going on in this mob going into the store.
[00:16:57] Like, it just seemed amplified by 100%.
[00:17:02] Yeah.
[00:17:02] Like, it just was amplified.
[00:17:04] A band that I really enjoy.
[00:17:07] Victorian Halls.
[00:17:08] They did a music video years and years and years ago.
[00:17:11] It was like a holiday song.
[00:17:12] Christmas-y holiday season song.
[00:17:15] And then it was all about, you know, like thankfulness and giving and togetherness.
[00:17:20] And the music video was just security and news footage of Black Friday riots and ridiculous stuff.
[00:17:27] It was very tongue-in-cheek, but also with like a whole, like a poignant, like, this is where we're at as a society.
[00:17:34] That's great.
[00:17:36] Yeah, I thought maybe this was Eli Roth's, like, look at consumerism and how our holidays have become less about togetherness and more about, you know, what can we buy?
[00:17:49] Like getting, buying, buying, buying.
[00:17:52] And the rabid rage that comes along with it.
[00:17:55] Oh, yeah.
[00:17:56] All these people are just angry and almost rabid and crashing through the door.
[00:18:01] And running around.
[00:18:02] I was like, no, zombies!
[00:18:03] And I was like, oh, no, worse, capitalism!
[00:18:07] It's honestly, it was crazy to watch this and just think about what people do, like, to get in line for different things.
[00:18:18] And I've never, the only Black Friday shopping I ever did, really, that wasn't, like, online.
[00:18:26] Like, I didn't go to the store and get in line.
[00:18:30] Really, the only Black Friday shopping.
[00:18:32] When I was younger and still lived in my hometown where I grew up,
[00:18:39] the day after Thanksgiving, we would go to, one of the local schools had a craft fair.
[00:18:45] And so we would go to a craft fair and buy things and maybe have a nice lunch or something.
[00:18:51] It wasn't like this.
[00:18:53] Yeah.
[00:18:54] And watching the people in this movie outside getting riled up and, like I said, rabid made me anxious.
[00:19:06] All I can think about is Tickle Me Elmo, which was such a big deal at one time.
[00:19:12] Yeah.
[00:19:13] There's always some neat new toy.
[00:19:16] Right.
[00:19:16] That parents are trying to get for their kids or they're trying to get.
[00:19:20] Just want Turbo Man.
[00:19:21] Oh, my gosh.
[00:19:24] Jingle all the way.
[00:19:26] Yeah.
[00:19:27] I've seen that movie more times than you would think.
[00:19:29] It's a great one.
[00:19:30] It's classic.
[00:19:32] Doesn't really fit Run for Your Lives.
[00:19:34] No.
[00:19:35] Although he does do a lot of running in it.
[00:19:37] There's a lot of running.
[00:19:40] And swinging.
[00:19:42] Yeah.
[00:19:42] Lots of things happened in that movie.
[00:19:44] Yes.
[00:19:46] A lot of people are alive in it.
[00:19:48] Mm-hmm.
[00:19:51] Yeah.
[00:19:51] So watching people get so riled up, I just got anxious.
[00:19:55] And the one woman, Lizzie, who ends up, she's a waitress at one of the coffee shops, the little restaurants in town.
[00:20:07] I wanted to punch her.
[00:20:08] And I'm not a violent person.
[00:20:10] Right.
[00:20:10] But her rage.
[00:20:12] Just awful.
[00:20:12] Her and then the Hanover dickbag is all I just referred to.
[00:20:17] Which, like, them and then, like, the other people around them.
[00:20:20] I was, like, these randos at the front of the line.
[00:20:22] Had to be having a lot of fun just getting to yell random shit the whole time on screen.
[00:20:27] Like, that looks like some of the stuff.
[00:20:29] Because I had captions on.
[00:20:30] I watched on Netflix.
[00:20:31] So I was able to just put the captions on.
[00:20:33] And just some of the stuff they were saying was just bonkers.
[00:20:37] Out of left field.
[00:20:38] Like, what?
[00:20:39] I don't know.
[00:20:42] Yeah.
[00:20:43] I don't understand.
[00:20:44] Those are our furbies.
[00:20:50] And it wasn't like once they got in the store, they were going to go in and shop and buy things.
[00:20:59] It seemed to me they were grabbing things and leaving.
[00:21:01] Like, it was a riot.
[00:21:03] It was a...
[00:21:03] They were looting.
[00:21:05] It wasn't sensible.
[00:21:09] It was nuts.
[00:21:11] And I get the impression this actually was, like, Thanksgiving evening.
[00:21:16] Like, the store opened in the evening.
[00:21:18] Yeah.
[00:21:19] Because that's...
[00:21:19] Yeah.
[00:21:20] That's been a big thing in the past 10, 15 years is, you know, it used to be Black Friday.
[00:21:26] And it's, like, 5, 6 a.m. Friday morning stores would open their doors.
[00:21:30] And then people would line up all night.
[00:21:31] And it became such a crazy thing that, like, here in this movie where we learn it's really more Kathleen's idea.
[00:21:37] But, yeah, so stores just started being like, well, let's...
[00:21:40] We can, you know, be a little more lucrative and profit off that.
[00:21:43] If people are going to be lining up at 11 p.m. the night before anyway, then just open the store Thursday night and just let them go ahead and start shopping then.
[00:21:54] Yeah.
[00:21:54] We don't...
[00:21:55] It doesn't matter if employees want to be with their families.
[00:21:58] Hmm.
[00:21:59] No.
[00:21:59] Why wouldn't?
[00:22:02] It's better, you know, consumerism.
[00:22:05] Selling.
[00:22:06] Yeah.
[00:22:06] Buying.
[00:22:13] Yeah.
[00:22:13] On Thursday night anyway, which is great for employees and people that don't, you know, that need to be with their families.
[00:22:19] But, yeah, but there was a period of time, yeah, that just get early and earlier to remember times where, yeah, Black Friday sales started at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening.
[00:22:26] And it's, like...
[00:22:29] No.
[00:22:29] It's when people should be having Thanksgiving dinner with their family.
[00:22:32] Why?
[00:22:33] No.
[00:22:33] A lot of times that's when my family would have Thanksgiving dinner because, believe it or not, my dad would go out on the boat that day.
[00:22:43] Like, they just did that.
[00:22:46] Or there was sporting events on that people wanted to watch and they didn't want to have dinner until after.
[00:22:52] And then we did finally have dinner, like, usually in the afternoon, depending on the weather.
[00:22:59] Like, if they couldn't go out on the boat.
[00:23:02] Mm-hmm.
[00:23:03] So, no, I don't think...
[00:23:07] No.
[00:23:08] Let people be with their families.
[00:23:09] It's important.
[00:23:11] Yeah.
[00:23:11] I think here in our state, they can open, but it can't be after midnight or 6 a.m.
[00:23:20] I can't remember.
[00:23:21] It may have changed.
[00:23:22] I'm not hip on all the latest Black Friday shopping schedules.
[00:23:26] At this point, Cyber Monday exists and there's all the online shopping deals over Black Friday that start even a few days before that just online.
[00:23:39] Who wants to go to a store anymore and deal with all that when I can sit at home and get online and buy that, buy that, buy that, buy that.
[00:23:47] Mm-hmm.
[00:23:47] Done.
[00:23:48] All right.
[00:23:48] Back to what I was doing.
[00:23:50] Yeah.
[00:23:51] It's nuts.
[00:23:52] One thing I do try to do is, like, Small Business Saturday.
[00:23:55] Absolutely.
[00:23:55] I do try to do that.
[00:23:56] Yeah, that's great.
[00:23:57] And I will go out to do that, but I won't go near a mall or a store during the month of December at all and after Thanksgiving at all because it's too crazy.
[00:24:10] Too many people.
[00:24:11] Yeah, and I'm glad you brought that up.
[00:24:12] Yeah, definitely.
[00:24:13] That's going to be...
[00:24:14] This isn't Buffalo Buffalo.
[00:24:15] Official stance of Run For Your Lives, but officially, like, for real, not even a joke.
[00:24:22] Um, small businesses, definitely.
[00:24:25] Especially, like, around here.
[00:24:26] Like, I'm good friends with a lot of, like, local restaurant owners and, like, small shop owners and stuff.
[00:24:32] And, yeah, holiday season.
[00:24:34] Like, it seems like such an anti-consumer capitalism, but it's not really consumers.
[00:24:40] But, like, yeah, like, the big box stores and the corporations, they'll be fine.
[00:24:45] Like, what you...
[00:24:46] Spend your time and money and effort on the smaller businesses and local-owned places and mom-and-pop shops and restaurants that...
[00:24:54] Yeah.
[00:24:55] ...need you in order to survive.
[00:24:57] Like, so, yeah, if you're going to be going all crazy and wanting to spend a bunch of money and time doing shopping and things around the holidays, great.
[00:25:04] Give it to people that can use it.
[00:25:06] Yeah.
[00:25:07] Hit up your local businesses.
[00:25:09] Do that instead.
[00:25:12] One of the things I've noticed here is that a lot of the restaurants in Portland have been closing.
[00:25:18] We're losing more and more restaurants.
[00:25:20] So, you just start thinking, okay, how do we support businesses to keep them going?
[00:25:29] And I think, yeah, going ahead and getting, you know, gift cards or, you know, whatever you can do to support that business, I think, is important.
[00:25:42] Absolutely.
[00:25:43] So, it is an official stance of Run for Realize.
[00:25:45] Yes.
[00:25:45] We don't have many, but it is definitely one of them.
[00:25:48] Yes.
[00:25:49] It's small businesses, for sure, to need way more support than any corporate chain business ever needs.
[00:25:57] Don't worry about that.
[00:25:58] They'll be fine.
[00:25:59] Definitely.
[00:26:01] Yeah.
[00:26:02] So, yeah, so, again, that kind of mentality or idea, yeah, is the extreme version of that is, as you set that up with, is why we have this John Carver killer.
[00:26:12] Yeah.
[00:26:14] Is it's just this really extreme statement against corporate greed and consumerism and the just complete, you know, not caring about human life and anything because of selfishness and greed and this whole kind of idea.
[00:26:31] Yeah.
[00:26:32] Take it to an extreme with, like, a serial killer, but, you know, gets the point across.
[00:26:36] Mm-hmm.
[00:26:37] Yeah.
[00:26:38] But it also doesn't, even though it's like that kind of statement in this movie, it also doesn't take itself too seriously.
[00:26:44] It is.
[00:26:44] It really doesn't.
[00:26:45] A silly movie.
[00:26:47] It really is.
[00:26:48] A lot of the kills and a lot of the stuff is meant for over-the-top comedic effect to some degree, and it is meant to be goofy, and I like that.
[00:26:57] I mean, to get a Black Friday rush as a horror scene is honestly, for, like, dark humor, somebody like myself was kind of hilarious.
[00:27:06] You know, shattered glass shredding necks and people getting trampled and slipping on leftovers and beating each other to death with waffle iron boxes.
[00:27:15] It's like, it's so absurd.
[00:27:17] Like, it's funny.
[00:27:19] Ripping a woman's scalp off with a shopping cart.
[00:27:22] Yeah.
[00:27:23] Thank you, Lizzie, for that little gem.
[00:27:26] Yeah.
[00:27:27] Yeah.
[00:27:27] I agree.
[00:27:29] I don't think it took itself too seriously.
[00:27:31] There were a lot of silly things that happened, but then there were other things that were just a little more intense that brought you back in to realize that, yes, this is a horror movie,
[00:27:42] and not all everything is going to be funny or, you know, quick-witted or clever.
[00:27:50] Sometimes it's going to be a little bit darker.
[00:27:55] I kept track of the victims.
[00:27:57] Like, I just went through all the victims as I was going through them.
[00:27:59] Like, victim number one and victim number two and, like, coming up with just, like, my thoughts on the kills or things.
[00:28:09] I do know that Eli Roth was inspired by a couple of movies from the 80s.
[00:28:18] When it came to the kills, he really wanted things to be, like, different and interesting.
[00:28:23] Yeah.
[00:28:23] So he was inspired by a couple of movies that I have actually seen them.
[00:28:29] I watched them in the 80s.
[00:28:33] And they are My Bloody Valentine and Happy Birthday to Me.
[00:28:41] And those are movies, I mean, we could cover.
[00:28:44] They fit, obviously.
[00:28:46] They fit the genre.
[00:28:47] But our list is so long, we may not get to them for a very long time.
[00:28:52] Yeah.
[00:28:52] So.
[00:28:52] Probably not.
[00:28:54] Last week.
[00:28:54] Or not last week when people were hearing this.
[00:28:57] But last week when we recorded whatever episode that was, whenever.
[00:29:00] Time is a construct.
[00:29:01] But, yeah, I was talking about, yeah, it's like, we're not going to run out of movies anytime soon.
[00:29:05] I think we're good.
[00:29:06] No.
[00:29:07] And we do cover disaster and monster movies.
[00:29:10] It just may not seem like we have, that we do that.
[00:29:14] Because we've been covering a lot of more in the horror realm, I think.
[00:29:18] Like, so, we promise we'll get back to some of those cool monster.
[00:29:25] Yeah.
[00:29:25] Flicks soon.
[00:29:26] We'll find some good ones.
[00:29:27] Which there's plenty.
[00:29:28] Yeah.
[00:29:29] Yeah.
[00:29:30] So, again, I could talk about specific characters.
[00:29:33] I have a little bit of stuff.
[00:29:35] But mainly, I don't know, let's take you on the journey to find the killer.
[00:29:40] I'll just run through these and then interject whenever you want to.
[00:29:44] Awesome.
[00:29:45] I have some fun notes.
[00:29:47] So, I will say this.
[00:29:48] One thing I want to bring up, and I don't know if you made notes about this, but you had to have appreciated the Carver and his clever puns.
[00:30:00] Oh, yeah.
[00:30:00] Because he had a lot of puns.
[00:30:02] And all I could think is, I need to siphon this specific, like, five minutes of time and play it for you and Jerry and Jeff.
[00:30:12] Because it is crazy, the things that he was saying at the end of the movie.
[00:30:18] Especially the end of the movie.
[00:30:21] Yeah.
[00:30:21] I have a note.
[00:30:22] I didn't, like, write down any of his specific ones.
[00:30:24] But I do just have notes.
[00:30:26] He's murdering and quipping at the same time.
[00:30:28] I like his style.
[00:30:29] That's why Spider-Man's my favorite, like, Marvel superhero.
[00:30:32] Even just superhero in general.
[00:30:34] It's because Spider-Man, all iterations of spider people are always punny and quippy.
[00:30:39] That's just, like, a big thing.
[00:30:40] And that's why I've always really loved Spider-Man.
[00:30:44] So, yeah.
[00:30:44] So, here is the journey that I went on.
[00:30:46] So, it's going to be reading through some of these notes where I'm going to be like, this is it.
[00:30:49] And you're going to be like, well, no, that's not right.
[00:30:50] But here were my thoughts.
[00:30:52] First, of course, was, you know, death by shopping cart.
[00:30:55] Yikes.
[00:30:55] So, then my first guess early on in the movie is Mitch the killer.
[00:30:59] Does he scan the security footage and hunt down every person involved?
[00:31:02] Probably not.
[00:31:02] But if that was the movie, I'd fully be on his side.
[00:31:05] Yes.
[00:31:05] Me too.
[00:31:07] Me too.
[00:31:07] I actually thought Mitch was going to play a much bigger role in this movie than he did.
[00:31:11] Yeah.
[00:31:11] Yeah.
[00:31:12] And there were some deleted scenes that I'll go over, I'll talk about later.
[00:31:18] A lot of them were throwaway, but there were a couple that I thought kind of explained things or added something that I wish they'd included in the movie.
[00:31:28] So, we'll talk about that later.
[00:31:30] But I did think Mitch was going to be, yeah.
[00:31:34] I thought he was going to be a bigger part of it.
[00:31:36] He was suspect number one on my list early on.
[00:31:39] Not like there was like a, by who I thought the most, at least.
[00:31:42] He was just the first one that I guessed was like, that could be.
[00:31:46] There's a lot of other motives that popped up.
[00:31:48] Yeah.
[00:31:49] Because it turns out three people died in that craziness that happened.
[00:31:54] Amanda, which is Mitch's wife.
[00:31:57] Doug, who was one of the security guards.
[00:32:00] The more reliable of the security guards, I have to say.
[00:32:03] And then a random person from the town.
[00:32:07] And then Bobby's arm got destroyed, basically.
[00:32:13] Exactly.
[00:32:14] Yeah.
[00:32:14] So, that gives you just an overview of, okay, here we are.
[00:32:18] Yeah.
[00:32:19] Yeah.
[00:32:20] And I threw in a couple of little notes as well.
[00:32:22] Just talking about stuff.
[00:32:23] But yeah, so like, Barry the Hatchet was the song playing in the diner.
[00:32:26] Show the axe throwing.
[00:32:28] All these fun little hints of things to come.
[00:32:31] Then we see Lizzie again at the diner.
[00:32:34] I was like, that's the psychopath who killed Amanda getting a waffle iron.
[00:32:37] She's on the hit list for sure.
[00:32:39] Yes, I was counting down the minutes.
[00:32:44] Yeah.
[00:32:44] Yeah, I wanted her to go.
[00:32:46] I'm like, okay.
[00:32:47] So, their location, they're in Plymouth where they make Thanksgiving and John Carver their whole thing.
[00:32:54] The John Carver house is ransacked and the axe is stolen.
[00:32:58] And so, I was like, ooh, someone's got, well, an axe to grind.
[00:33:02] A wishbone to pick, if you will.
[00:33:04] There's a problem that needs addressing.
[00:33:08] All right, I'm a turkey for that one.
[00:33:11] I cranberry believe that you imitated that one.
[00:33:15] I thought I was on a casserole.
[00:33:17] But I butter stop.
[00:33:20] I butter stop.
[00:33:21] But it's just who I am.
[00:33:24] So mac and cheesy.
[00:33:26] Always hamming it up.
[00:33:28] Keeping you on your potatoes.
[00:33:30] Okay, back to the movie.
[00:33:31] Oh, man.
[00:33:38] I'm a bulldog.
[00:33:39] I'm a bulldog.
[00:33:39] But yet, I feel like I have been punished.
[00:33:44] We learned Bobby ghosted Jessica and everybody else completely after the incident where his good throwing arm went quick, crack, bye-bye.
[00:33:51] So then maybe he's John Carver.
[00:33:54] That was then my next guess.
[00:33:55] It's like, he's got his own little vendetta.
[00:33:58] Then we see whoever Carver is, he's internet savvy enough to start an Instagram account and tag his possible future victims.
[00:34:04] The table is set.
[00:34:07] And then that's where the killing starts after that is after hours at the diner.
[00:34:10] Lizzie is closing down and also about to get closed down permanently.
[00:34:16] Which, damn, dousing in water and then stuck to a frozen door.
[00:34:20] That's a new one.
[00:34:21] I like that.
[00:34:22] I don't think it would actually work like that.
[00:34:23] But it's creative for a silly slasher movie.
[00:34:26] And then, of course, having the little no fingerprints on the phone after ripping them off on the door.
[00:34:31] Like, ugh.
[00:34:32] Creative.
[00:34:33] Yeah.
[00:34:33] I like the creative stuff.
[00:34:36] And slashing everything in half.
[00:34:38] I mean, that's the sale for Breitbart.
[00:34:41] Yeah.
[00:34:42] Yeah.
[00:34:43] Why do people constantly run away from vehicles in a straight line directly ahead of the car?
[00:34:48] Like they're going to outrun it?
[00:34:50] It's like such a trope that I've seen so many times.
[00:34:52] And it's like there's an opening to the left, to the street.
[00:34:56] Just go that way.
[00:34:58] Zigzag.
[00:34:59] Serpentine!
[00:34:59] I don't know why you just, oh no, there's a car going to try to run me down.
[00:35:02] Let me stay directly in one straight line in front of it.
[00:35:06] But she was trying to go for the dumpster.
[00:35:07] Chopped in half by a dumpster.
[00:35:09] Again!
[00:35:09] Like before, it doesn't work that way, but it's creative.
[00:35:11] It's creative, right?
[00:35:13] I thought, okay, she's going to be run over.
[00:35:16] But nope.
[00:35:17] Bang the dumpster.
[00:35:19] Chopper in half.
[00:35:19] Yeah.
[00:35:21] And then back to me thinking and trying to decide stuff.
[00:35:24] I was like, well, the backup security footage that Jessica tells Bobby about reveals someone
[00:35:28] with a specific motive.
[00:35:30] Someone connected to someone who died, which, yeah, in a way.
[00:35:35] In more than one way.
[00:35:37] It was like, I mean, besides Mitch, because the killer just seems to be skinnier than he is.
[00:35:42] Is what I noticed while seeing that.
[00:35:45] So I was like, I don't think so.
[00:35:47] And then that's where I was like, it's not the Hanover dickbag, is it?
[00:35:49] I can't root for him.
[00:35:51] No.
[00:35:51] I was like, but it is somebody who was there at the front because they're targeting the security guard
[00:35:56] who ran away, marking him as a coward.
[00:35:58] And so it's like, okay.
[00:35:59] Okay.
[00:36:00] And they're not going after Mitch, which I think made me think it was going to be Mitch
[00:36:05] because they're not going after him.
[00:36:08] So it's obviously someone who realizes that Mitch was innocent in all this.
[00:36:14] Like he didn't do anything.
[00:36:17] But then it just started pointing in so many directions, like different people,
[00:36:23] that I was just like, wow.
[00:36:24] Yeah.
[00:36:25] Kept doing other things.
[00:36:26] Then the security guard, the other security guard, his.
[00:36:29] Man!
[00:36:30] I'm a security guard.
[00:36:31] I kill people every fucking day.
[00:36:33] And I was like, well, that would mean you're a really shitty security guard.
[00:36:37] Yeah.
[00:36:37] You shouldn't be a security guard if that's what you're doing.
[00:36:41] Death by decapitation.
[00:36:44] Mm-hmm.
[00:36:44] Which then at the end of that, what a nice and thoughtful murderer.
[00:36:48] Yes.
[00:36:48] Give the kitty food and scritches on the way out.
[00:36:51] Of course.
[00:36:52] Did you recognize the cat?
[00:36:57] Mm.
[00:36:57] Mm-hmm.
[00:36:58] Is it the same cat from what?
[00:37:01] I don't know.
[00:37:03] Well, that kitty's name is Tonic and he previously played the pregrave church in Pet Sematary.
[00:37:09] Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
[00:37:10] Yeah.
[00:37:10] Uh-huh.
[00:37:10] Yeah.
[00:37:11] I didn't look that up.
[00:37:12] I didn't see that for sure.
[00:37:13] But yeah, that would be my guess.
[00:37:14] Yeah.
[00:37:14] So yeah.
[00:37:15] Yeah.
[00:37:15] It looks similar.
[00:37:16] That's cool.
[00:37:17] Yeah.
[00:37:17] The working cat.
[00:37:18] Yeah.
[00:37:20] Uh, so then next guess.
[00:37:22] Ryan, is he a suspect now?
[00:37:24] It's like he was with the security guard that died and he's quite angry about Bobby being
[00:37:29] at Jessica's house.
[00:37:30] So does he have this like vengeful side to him?
[00:37:33] There is like those little things that were being planted.
[00:37:37] Uh, and then right after that, here's the note.
[00:37:40] Or is it Eric, the police officer using info from witnesses to track victims?
[00:37:44] I mean, that is clever, right?
[00:37:47] Uh-huh.
[00:37:47] It's very clever.
[00:37:49] So I did guess it pretty early on.
[00:37:52] And then I even have a notice that this is fun as a first watch trying to guess.
[00:37:55] I hope that it's a good reveal.
[00:37:56] That's worth it.
[00:38:00] And then next was the next kill.
[00:38:02] I said strip trampolining.
[00:38:03] That's also a new one.
[00:38:05] I mean, I don't fully hate it, but it's a lot of jostling.
[00:38:10] I don't, I don't know.
[00:38:11] I'm not sold.
[00:38:12] I'm not sold.
[00:38:12] I might have to, I might have to see more of it.
[00:38:14] I was trying to figure out how she was taking her underwear off while jumping on the trampoline.
[00:38:19] Carefully.
[00:38:20] She was making it work.
[00:38:21] Skillfully.
[00:38:21] Um.
[00:38:22] Yeah.
[00:38:22] Again, that was one of the scenes that was in the trailer.
[00:38:26] Uh-huh.
[00:38:26] That was in between the Grindhouse trailer.
[00:38:29] So, yeah.
[00:38:29] Yeah.
[00:38:30] So take, take someone with a very specific skill to be able to do that well.
[00:38:34] So, I mean, more power to you.
[00:38:36] Well, Amy was a cheerleader.
[00:38:38] Mm-hmm.
[00:38:39] She's resourceful.
[00:38:41] But Lonnie actually died before her.
[00:38:44] Your favorite douchebag.
[00:38:46] Yeah.
[00:38:47] Broken neck.
[00:38:48] Very simple kill.
[00:38:49] Just quick.
[00:38:50] Very effective.
[00:38:51] I did think stabbing Amy through the trampoline was kind of cool.
[00:39:00] Different.
[00:39:01] Brutal.
[00:39:01] Brutal.
[00:39:02] Yeah.
[00:39:03] Ankle.
[00:39:04] Hand.
[00:39:04] Yes.
[00:39:05] Jess.
[00:39:07] Yeah.
[00:39:07] That's not, Peck, that's not where she got stabbed in the Grindhouse trailer.
[00:39:13] Mm.
[00:39:13] Oh.
[00:39:15] All right.
[00:39:16] Yeah.
[00:39:17] In a much more sensitive place.
[00:39:19] Mm-hmm.
[00:39:22] Uh, let's see.
[00:39:23] Then after that, Eric says to Jessica, stay together, or at least in pairs.
[00:39:27] And I was thinking, you know, like the pair in Hanover that just got murdered.
[00:39:30] Ha ha ha.
[00:39:31] Ha ha ha.
[00:39:32] Ha ha ha.
[00:39:33] Oh, man.
[00:39:35] But then another random, like, suspect on the list that didn't really have a lot of reasoning,
[00:39:39] but also I was like, what's with this new deputy?
[00:39:41] Where did he come from?
[00:39:43] That's us.
[00:39:44] Like.
[00:39:44] I thought he was going to have a much bigger role.
[00:39:47] It's like, this guy just showed up after the fact, like right before things started happening.
[00:39:51] It's like, well, that's suspicious.
[00:39:52] So we're going to put him on the list.
[00:39:54] Uh.
[00:39:55] I thought it was odd.
[00:39:57] I thought, I thought it was odd.
[00:40:00] And then McCarty, who I thought actually was a really fun character.
[00:40:04] It was interesting.
[00:40:05] He was.
[00:40:05] I don't know if fun is the word.
[00:40:07] Well, I mean, kind of.
[00:40:08] Like, he, I think he was, he was, okay?
[00:40:11] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:12] He was kind of fun.
[00:40:13] He throws a party that everyone wants to get into, evidently.
[00:40:18] Yeah.
[00:40:18] No, the only note I really had about him, uh, I'll cut over to that, was, uh, this McCarty
[00:40:26] guy said, he just has drunk kids laying around his house at any given day and firearms stashed
[00:40:30] everywhere.
[00:40:30] It's just a big walking red flag.
[00:40:33] Um.
[00:40:33] It is.
[00:40:34] It really is.
[00:40:36] But he's the one who gave Jessica the ring.
[00:40:39] Randomly.
[00:40:40] Yeah.
[00:40:41] I'm going to give you this ring.
[00:40:42] My dad said it kept him alive in Iraq.
[00:40:44] And I'm like.
[00:40:46] So random.
[00:40:47] But it's like.
[00:40:47] Okay.
[00:40:48] Yeah.
[00:40:48] All right.
[00:40:49] Sure.
[00:40:50] Uh, but yeah.
[00:40:50] And then we have Evan and Gabby kind of getting disappeared at the school.
[00:40:55] How did he get him, get them out of there?
[00:40:57] Who knows?
[00:40:59] Uh.
[00:40:59] Oh, well, guess what?
[00:41:01] One of the deleted scenes.
[00:41:03] Mm.
[00:41:04] So when they're walking down the hall, there's like this bin with wheels that they say, wait,
[00:41:11] wait a minute.
[00:41:12] What is that doing there?
[00:41:13] And then they get knocked out.
[00:41:14] He puts them in that and wheels them away.
[00:41:17] However, that's part of this deleted scene.
[00:41:20] Another part of it is she goes to see him because he's really pissed off about the game getting called off.
[00:41:27] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:28] And he talks about blaming himself for people dying because he put them in his video that he posted from that night.
[00:41:37] Uh-huh.
[00:41:37] Yeah.
[00:41:38] So he thinks that they're finding them because of him.
[00:41:41] And so it's bothering him.
[00:41:43] And she gives him this pep talk, basically, like telling him to man up.
[00:41:49] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:49] And it was interesting.
[00:41:52] I wish it had been kept in.
[00:41:53] Yeah.
[00:41:54] Yeah.
[00:41:54] Because it kind of gave you just the tiniest bit of depth for Evan so that he's not just kind of a jockey douchebag.
[00:42:04] Yeah.
[00:42:04] He was just the worst the whole movie to me.
[00:42:07] Yeah.
[00:42:07] Yeah.
[00:42:07] This gives you just a little bit.
[00:42:10] Yeah.
[00:42:10] But when they are both attacked, I did have to question.
[00:42:13] I was like, did the killer just chloroform two people at the same time?
[00:42:16] How did that work?
[00:42:19] Sure.
[00:42:20] With a blanket.
[00:42:21] Just, we'll go with it.
[00:42:23] Chloroform blanket.
[00:42:24] And then Yulia is next, which cob holders, it's a little corny.
[00:42:30] But the table saw kill, that'll generate a little bit more buzz.
[00:42:34] Mm-hmm.
[00:42:35] Mm-hmm.
[00:42:37] Mm-hmm.
[00:42:38] Wonderful.
[00:42:39] Mm-hmm.
[00:42:40] Wonderful.
[00:42:41] Just keep it going, Peg.
[00:42:43] Keep it going.
[00:42:44] Oh, yeah, because then the next on the kill list would be Lionel, the guy in the suit.
[00:42:48] And I said, that turkey's definitely getting cooked.
[00:42:51] Well, and he was another one that Jessica and Bobby, that's another name that was given to Eric, the sheriff.
[00:43:01] Yep.
[00:43:02] Which, before he died, because I saw what we see is Eric in the suit running through the marching band.
[00:43:10] And I was like, what is with this random creepy Halloween clown in the Thanksgiving parade?
[00:43:15] That makes no sense.
[00:43:16] And then I was like, oh, because he's a literal axe murderer.
[00:43:18] Thanks for the answer, movie.
[00:43:19] Uh.
[00:43:23] Yeah.
[00:43:23] Makes more sense.
[00:43:24] Got it.
[00:43:25] That is another scene that was in the trailer.
[00:43:29] Mm-hmm.
[00:43:30] The victim, like decapitation.
[00:43:32] Yeah, that whole thing with the turkey, yes.
[00:43:35] Yeah.
[00:43:36] And then the guy driving the float, bowsprit through the face.
[00:43:40] Which also, I learned a new word today.
[00:43:43] Bowsprit.
[00:43:44] That's wonderful.
[00:43:46] Can you explain what that means to people who don't know what that is?
[00:43:50] That's the big, like, wooden, usually wooden, I guess on a wooden ship.
[00:43:55] I guess it could be other things.
[00:43:57] But the big beam or, like, thing that points out from the front of a ship.
[00:44:03] Excellent.
[00:44:04] Thank you so much.
[00:44:04] Because I wanted to say mast, and I was like, no, the masts are the one that go, like, vertical,
[00:44:08] like, on the top of the old sails and stuff.
[00:44:09] This is horizontal.
[00:44:10] So I was like, what's the thing at the front?
[00:44:12] So I did some Googling, and it's a bowsprit.
[00:44:14] Wonderful.
[00:44:14] Which maybe you already knew that because you were raised around.
[00:44:17] Well, maybe.
[00:44:18] Maybe.
[00:44:20] But I learned a new word, a new term.
[00:44:22] Wonderful.
[00:44:23] That was fun for me.
[00:44:24] And now you shared it?
[00:44:25] See, this podcast can be educational.
[00:44:27] It can.
[00:44:29] It can.
[00:44:30] Yeah, they weren't expecting the killer to hit the actual parade, except they, being the sheriff
[00:44:36] and his people, actually did because it was him.
[00:44:39] But at the time, I was like, whoa, they didn't think he was going to actually hit it.
[00:44:41] And I was like, well, that's why he did, because he knew the plan of storing them back
[00:44:46] at the warehouse.
[00:44:47] So then he was like, well, I can just get around that.
[00:44:52] And then that's what, so he comes in and he sedates the right family to take them back,
[00:44:57] hops into the car.
[00:45:00] And that was the first moment where, and maybe it was just weird editing, but I was like,
[00:45:03] are there two killers working together?
[00:45:05] I really still question it.
[00:45:08] I do.
[00:45:08] It immediately cuts to then the killer with Kathleen.
[00:45:13] And I was like, well, what happened to the other people?
[00:45:15] And like, what, is there like a quick, like a little time jump that they're just like ignoring
[00:45:19] or weird editing?
[00:45:21] Because I was like, wait, are the others just sedated elsewhere while he's basting and
[00:45:25] seasoning old Kathleen?
[00:45:28] Or it was a weird like cut.
[00:45:30] So that made me think it was like, either it's a weird editing cut.
[00:45:32] It was like, or there may be two people and two things are happening at the same time.
[00:45:36] I don't know.
[00:45:37] I'm really surprised he left her clothes on when he was doing that.
[00:45:40] Mm-hmm.
[00:45:42] I mean.
[00:45:44] Oh, wait, no, you dress up a bird.
[00:45:46] Yeah, there you go.
[00:45:47] Not undress.
[00:45:48] Okay.
[00:45:49] That makes more sense.
[00:45:50] Yeah.
[00:45:52] And then as she's kind of snooping around, which Kathleen has a lot more survivor girl
[00:45:57] in her than I ever would have expected.
[00:45:59] That was.
[00:46:00] She's kind of a bitch, I think.
[00:46:03] Yeah.
[00:46:04] Terrible.
[00:46:04] Which is why I was surprised that like, she actually had that like, like a final girl
[00:46:09] moment where she kept getting away and fighting back and doing like, she was.
[00:46:12] She was doing really well until she didn't.
[00:46:15] In the end, she got got anyway.
[00:46:17] To quote Michael Scott.
[00:46:19] Boom.
[00:46:20] Roasted.
[00:46:22] With a nice little thermometer pop at the end.
[00:46:25] Nice touch.
[00:46:26] That was so.
[00:46:30] Clever.
[00:46:31] Clever.
[00:46:32] I felt a little bit Hansel and Gretel with that.
[00:46:37] But yeah.
[00:46:38] Terrifying.
[00:46:40] Clever.
[00:46:41] Yeah.
[00:46:41] Also, I did notice while he's like, trying to find her and knocking things over and stuff
[00:46:45] and he knocks over a whole thing of baseballs.
[00:46:47] And I was like, baseballs, is that a clue?
[00:46:49] Or a red herring?
[00:46:50] And it was both.
[00:46:55] And then how is cheerleader girl still alive after however long she was stuck in that fridge?
[00:47:02] I don't know.
[00:47:03] But she's definitely dead when she gets to the table.
[00:47:07] Yeah.
[00:47:07] And the way that he puts the corkscrew in and then drains the blood reminded me a little
[00:47:14] bit of this vampire killer that we have on Dead by Daylight who does kind of the same
[00:47:19] thing.
[00:47:21] And it also reminds me of The Strain, which I have been watching.
[00:47:27] Mm-hmm.
[00:47:27] I do re-watch it like once a year.
[00:47:31] And it's not like I'm paying attention super closely.
[00:47:33] It's just, it's on.
[00:47:35] Yeah.
[00:47:35] It's on while I'm doing other things.
[00:47:37] And so, it just brings me to that because there's a lot of blood and vampirism and stuff
[00:47:43] in The Strain, so.
[00:47:45] Mm-hmm.
[00:47:47] Yeah.
[00:47:47] He's got them off the table.
[00:47:48] I said this killer is giving a whole presentation with a little headset microphone like he's a
[00:47:52] theme park guide.
[00:47:53] Mm-hmm.
[00:47:55] Uh, and then here's the line, yeah, murdering and quipping at the same time.
[00:47:58] I like his style.
[00:47:59] And then also, he killed Evan!
[00:48:01] Oh, no!
[00:48:03] To go viral, you have to hit them over the head.
[00:48:07] It's a great one.
[00:48:09] Bye-bye!
[00:48:10] Mm-hmm.
[00:48:11] Uh, and then whenever Jess and Scuba bust out literally in the Carver House, the most obvious
[00:48:18] place, hidden in plain sight.
[00:48:21] Right from the beginning.
[00:48:22] Uh.
[00:48:23] I just wanted to know why.
[00:48:25] I mean, they showed the Carver House so many times.
[00:48:28] And watching it through this time, I'm thinking, it's right there.
[00:48:32] Mm-hmm.
[00:48:33] Like, it's in plain sight.
[00:48:35] You should have noticed.
[00:48:36] Did no one think to check the Carver House?
[00:48:39] Right.
[00:48:40] It's like he's dressed as John Carver.
[00:48:43] Uh.
[00:48:44] Hello!
[00:48:45] It's the most obvious choice.
[00:48:46] And they're like, it's too obvious.
[00:48:48] Couldn't be that.
[00:48:49] It's gotta be underground tunnels.
[00:48:50] Um.
[00:48:51] Of course, again, that was Eric leading that, so that's on purpose.
[00:48:54] Of course.
[00:48:55] Um.
[00:49:02] Um.
[00:49:03] Uh.
[00:49:05] And it seems like it was Bobby.
[00:49:07] I was like, oh, it was Bobby.
[00:49:08] I was like, is there gonna be a good reason why it was Bobby?
[00:49:10] That'll be explained?
[00:49:11] Or is there another twist coming?
[00:49:12] Little did I know?
[00:49:13] Well, I mean.
[00:49:14] Yes, there was.
[00:49:15] Bobby had his career taken away from him.
[00:49:17] But then later on, he does say, like, uh, rehab's been going really good, and he actually might
[00:49:22] be able to get back up to full speed pitches.
[00:49:24] So, like.
[00:49:25] Yeah.
[00:49:25] Not as bad.
[00:49:26] Like, he might be okay.
[00:49:27] Right.
[00:49:27] Like, yeah, he still lost out on probably the track to the majors like he would have, for
[00:49:31] sure.
[00:49:31] But, like.
[00:49:33] Yeah.
[00:49:33] You know.
[00:49:33] He may still be able to get there.
[00:49:35] Yeah.
[00:49:36] Uh.
[00:49:37] But, yeah.
[00:49:37] Uh.
[00:49:38] Then it's like, oh, they took the sheriff's gun.
[00:49:39] That'll be important.
[00:49:40] And then update.
[00:49:42] It wasn't.
[00:49:43] Uh.
[00:49:45] Uh.
[00:49:46] So, yeah.
[00:49:47] So, then they set it up to be Bobby.
[00:49:49] And then I was like, but is there another twist?
[00:49:51] And then, boom.
[00:49:52] There's the twist.
[00:49:53] It was like, going back to my previous notice.
[00:49:55] I had a feeling it was Eric.
[00:49:56] He was there with Mitch when Amanda died.
[00:49:59] And then he set up Bobby somehow.
[00:50:01] I like.
[00:50:02] I like the twist.
[00:50:03] Because earlier I said, it better be a good reveal that I feel was worth it.
[00:50:06] And after getting it, I feel like it was a good reveal that was worth it.
[00:50:11] Uh.
[00:50:12] And then he goes to tell about his reasoning.
[00:50:14] And I was like, exposition time.
[00:50:15] Yay.
[00:50:16] And that wasn't even facetious.
[00:50:18] Because I actually was really interested in that one.
[00:50:19] I was like, I do want to hear this exposition.
[00:50:21] I want to know why.
[00:50:23] And I did not see the Amanda was pregnant with his child part of it.
[00:50:27] No.
[00:50:27] I didn't see that.
[00:50:28] And I was like, okay.
[00:50:30] Well, that explains some things then.
[00:50:32] Got it.
[00:50:34] But then as he's giving his whole spiel, Jessica comes back at him.
[00:50:38] And I was like, oh, a crooked police officer foiled by social media.
[00:50:40] This is based more in reality than I thought.
[00:50:44] I love the way she revealed that to him.
[00:50:47] I didn't get to tell you what I was thankful for.
[00:50:49] The service in here.
[00:50:50] You should see the look of surprise on your face.
[00:50:53] Because he had just said that to her when she was realizing he was the killer.
[00:50:57] Yeah.
[00:50:58] I thought that was great.
[00:50:59] Yeah.
[00:50:59] It was a really great reveal on her part, too.
[00:51:02] But then, of course, after everything goes down, big explosion, big turkey explosion.
[00:51:08] Of course, there's no body at the end.
[00:51:10] Because we've got to set up the sequel.
[00:51:12] And I hope it doesn't suck.
[00:51:13] Because this one was a really entertaining ride.
[00:51:16] It really was.
[00:51:17] And there were things about it that reminded me a little bit of Halloween.
[00:51:20] Just like the beginning of the movie.
[00:51:22] The way they shot Eric going up to the door.
[00:51:27] Which foreshadowing with him right from the beginning.
[00:51:30] And then at the end of the movie, with the body disappearing.
[00:51:35] It's like, oh, huh.
[00:51:38] Which almost made it seem like he was in one of the firemen's uniforms as he was walking out.
[00:51:42] Because Jessica was focused on that for a little bit, but then doesn't do anything about it.
[00:51:45] I know.
[00:51:46] That made me think of Trap.
[00:51:48] Where he, you know, he forgets away.
[00:51:51] I made a reference to that.
[00:51:51] You did.
[00:51:53] So that would be my Jessica note.
[00:51:55] So we can just do that, because I don't have a lot.
[00:51:59] I like this style for this one.
[00:52:01] I don't know.
[00:52:01] It's just me reading my sections of notes.
[00:52:03] You can throw in whenever you want.
[00:52:05] It's a live fake.
[00:52:06] Like live Steve, but just a little bit.
[00:52:09] So it's kind of like a live tweeting discussion that we're having.
[00:52:14] Yeah.
[00:52:15] Works for me.
[00:52:16] So yeah.
[00:52:16] So the Jessica version.
[00:52:17] Here it goes.
[00:52:18] Yeah.
[00:52:18] Jess's dad owns Reitmart.
[00:52:20] She's dating a superstar baseball player.
[00:52:23] And then it made me think, because like, as they're in line trying to get inside, people keep stopping him.
[00:52:26] I was like, I don't know if I buy.
[00:52:29] And you see it all over the place.
[00:52:30] It's a trope for sure.
[00:52:32] The like smaller town, super idolizing high school athletes trope.
[00:52:36] It's everywhere.
[00:52:37] But like, also, I don't think it's really that real.
[00:52:42] I don't buy it.
[00:52:43] And again, I think I've mentioned this.
[00:52:44] I went to high school with Patrick Mahomes.
[00:52:47] He was good then.
[00:52:48] We all knew he was that good.
[00:52:51] But to us and the town at the time, like he was still just Patrick.
[00:52:56] Like nobody was stopping him and asking him for selfies at Walmart.
[00:52:59] I don't know.
[00:52:59] Like it was.
[00:53:03] Yeah.
[00:53:04] So I don't, I don't know if that's really as much of a thing as.
[00:53:08] It is to a point, I think.
[00:53:10] But it's mostly.
[00:53:13] Sometimes I think it's people wanting to live vicariously through someone else.
[00:53:17] Yeah.
[00:53:17] Like I remember we would do like, I said we would do.
[00:53:20] I wouldn't do.
[00:53:20] I wasn't on any of the sports teams and stuff.
[00:53:22] But they like Patrick and like other, like the varsity football team and stuff and like junior varsity.
[00:53:28] They would leave the school and do like events with like the elementary school students at the elementary school.
[00:53:35] Like that was, there were those moments like the little kids, the elementary kids would get excited to have the like varsity football team come and like hang out with them and play games and meet them and do stuff.
[00:53:47] But, but like the whole town at large was like, oh yeah, Patrick Holmes is like, yeah, he's a great high school football player.
[00:53:52] But in the grand scheme of things at the time, it's like, I mean, yeah, Friday Night Lights, it's Texas.
[00:53:56] High school football is a big deal.
[00:53:58] But still it's like high school football player.
[00:54:01] It was then like after then it's like, yeah, now he's at a level.
[00:54:04] But I don't think high school athletes were ever held on that big of a pedestal.
[00:54:09] And I don't ever really see that to that extent.
[00:54:12] I think it really depends.
[00:54:13] Like small, small towns like where I grew up, basketball was a really big deal.
[00:54:18] And the basketball players, I think, were looked up to really like the talent was looked up to.
[00:54:28] But not like an, like adultery or anything like that.
[00:54:32] Yeah, but you didn't see those kids stopped and asked for autographs and stuff.
[00:54:36] Like, like, like, no, most usually it would just be people in the community saying, can't wait for the big game or how are you thinking about this?
[00:54:48] Not.
[00:54:50] Can I have a selfie or an autograph mostly?
[00:54:53] Because guess what?
[00:54:54] Selfies didn't exist when I went to school.
[00:54:57] So yeah, but you got the like, oh, hey, you know, yeah.
[00:54:59] Like you said, good luck at the big game.
[00:55:00] Like, can't wait to see.
[00:55:01] Yeah.
[00:55:02] But it's not.
[00:55:02] But you don't usually get, oh, my God, it's that person.
[00:55:06] You know?
[00:55:07] No.
[00:55:08] No.
[00:55:09] Just a weird tangent.
[00:55:10] Anyway.
[00:55:12] Yeah.
[00:55:12] Jess is not a fan of her stepmom, Kathleen.
[00:55:14] And that's okay, because neither is anybody else.
[00:55:17] Oh, definitely not.
[00:55:19] I did not like her.
[00:55:21] She, the way she treated Jess and came into the family like that.
[00:55:28] But I did appreciate that her dad came to her after and realized that he was distracted by all of these things.
[00:55:38] Yeah.
[00:55:39] They had like that weird little, like, it's weird because it was just kind of random.
[00:55:42] But like that little moment where after she like printed off the photos from the security cameras to give to the killer.
[00:55:48] Sure.
[00:55:50] She did have that moment with him where like it was a really nice moment of him recognizing her emotions and her feelings through the situation and apologizing for it, which was nice.
[00:56:01] Which then ties into where there was a post-credits scene to this movie.
[00:56:04] There was?
[00:56:06] There was.
[00:56:07] Because I remember scanning through to make sure and I saw it and I was like, okay.
[00:56:10] And it was literally just a weird blooper of them, like, just hugging her dad and being like, you know, and he's like, I'm sorry.
[00:56:19] And she was like, you know, I love you.
[00:56:21] I love you.
[00:56:21] And then she walks off and then there's just a lingering shot on the father as he stares in the camera and he looks around the room and he looks all suspicious.
[00:56:27] And then he gives the camera a middle finger and then people laugh behind the scenes.
[00:56:31] And then it ended.
[00:56:31] And I was like, what was that about?
[00:56:33] Why did they include that?
[00:56:34] There's no reason for that.
[00:56:38] That was weird.
[00:56:39] Yeah.
[00:56:41] See, when the phone that you text chimes from an empty hallway, you immediately say nope and walk out the door.
[00:56:47] Yeah, I don't know why she didn't.
[00:56:52] And then after that, so she ran and hid in a room with a singular door in and out instead of one of the several nearby exits with cops outside.
[00:57:00] Yeah.
[00:57:00] At this point, if something bad happens to her, I can't even feel bad about it.
[00:57:05] Yeah, it was kind of odd that she did that.
[00:57:07] I feel like by now people should know.
[00:57:10] There are things that you don't do.
[00:57:12] If you have high heeled shoes on and someone's chasing you, you take your shoes off.
[00:57:17] You do not try to run in them.
[00:57:19] Or if you're downstairs in a house and somebody's coming at you down the hall, you go out the front door and you don't run up the stairs.
[00:57:25] Exactly.
[00:57:26] There are things you don't do.
[00:57:29] The golden rules of horror movies.
[00:57:31] Like, man, it's like Final Girl Survival 101.
[00:57:38] It's a new class that needs to be taught.
[00:57:41] Right.
[00:57:44] So, yeah.
[00:57:45] And then, yeah, it was – I made kind of a joke as they're sitting around with the parade.
[00:57:49] Like, we still need to do the parade.
[00:57:51] And then I made a joke about it and then it became part of the movie because I was like, yeah, we need to throw this parade to use as a trap for this guy.
[00:57:57] I saw it in a documentary once that they used a concert.
[00:58:01] And then I made that joke and then Jess literally word for word quoted her and went, Sheriff, is there a way to set a trap?
[00:58:07] And I just couldn't help but laugh.
[00:58:11] But it was because it was fun.
[00:58:13] Like, the movie was fun because of the way it was presented.
[00:58:18] I don't know how they're going to be able to do a second one and keep this like a similar vibe.
[00:58:28] Yeah.
[00:58:28] But I really hope they can because this was fun.
[00:58:33] I watched it last Thanksgiving the first time and I didn't watch it since.
[00:58:37] The vibe was just fun for all the reasons we've talked about.
[00:58:43] I see.
[00:58:44] Yeah, I mentioned you.
[00:58:45] Of course, McCarty gave Jessica a ring with a hidden blade.
[00:58:48] Why not?
[00:58:49] Hidden blades are very destructive when they need to be.
[00:58:54] They can finish things for people.
[00:58:59] Yes.
[00:59:00] Be quite the assassin move.
[00:59:04] Yeah.
[00:59:32] Yeah.
[00:59:34] She had to use her bracelet, though, that had her mom's picture in it.
[00:59:39] She had been like, we had seen that several times throughout the movie that she was opening it up.
[00:59:44] It almost was her in where it got caught on the fence when she's running from him.
[00:59:49] But she used it.
[00:59:50] It came in handy.
[00:59:51] And there were no leftovers.
[00:59:53] Or were there.
[00:59:56] Might come back for seconds.
[00:59:59] Does this movie need a to-go box?
[01:00:01] It might.
[01:00:02] It might.
[01:00:03] And then, let's see.
[01:00:04] Last notes that I have is I just have a few about the extended friend group and random other people.
[01:00:10] So, early on in the movie, he's friends with a guy named Scuba.
[01:00:14] Strike one.
[01:00:15] How am I going to text during the movie without a phone?
[01:00:17] Strike two.
[01:00:18] Pulling into the handicap spot.
[01:00:20] Strike three.
[01:00:20] Officially rooting for his death scene.
[01:00:21] Let's go, killer.
[01:00:23] Fuck Evan.
[01:00:24] I'm like, you don't park there.
[01:00:28] And then I made fun of the Scuba thing.
[01:00:30] And I thought it was stupid.
[01:00:31] But then later on, he goes, because his last name is Diving.
[01:00:34] Scuba Diving.
[01:00:35] And then after that, I was like, is it weird that I actually kind of like that?
[01:00:39] With the explanation, the nickname's actually better for me.
[01:00:41] I kind of dig it now.
[01:00:42] Yeah.
[01:00:43] I liked it.
[01:00:47] And then just a random thing.
[01:00:48] The character of Jacob was completely useless and side and not needed.
[01:00:52] But he was fun anyway.
[01:00:53] Because there's the point where Evan's like getting him to write the essay or whatever for him.
[01:00:59] And then that like, got him moment where Jacob gives him the teacher's own personal essay from her blog to read in class.
[01:01:07] Which was hilarious.
[01:01:07] That was amazing.
[01:01:08] Because fuck that guy.
[01:01:09] He deserved that.
[01:01:10] He didn't pay him.
[01:01:11] Yeah.
[01:01:12] And I feel like Jacob knew that he wasn't going to.
[01:01:15] So, he's like, this is, you didn't pay me last time?
[01:01:17] Yes.
[01:01:17] This is like, hoisted by your own patate.
[01:01:20] Yep.
[01:01:21] That was great.
[01:01:23] I don't actually know what the beef between Bobby and Ryan was in the whole movie.
[01:01:27] Like, at all.
[01:01:28] Still don't.
[01:01:31] No reason other than they liked the same girl.
[01:01:34] Like, get the fuck over yourself.
[01:01:35] That has ended more friendships than you can even imagine.
[01:01:40] Okay.
[01:01:41] Right.
[01:01:41] But they were never a friendship to begin with.
[01:01:43] No.
[01:01:43] They just like, decided they hated each other separately.
[01:01:48] Ryan didn't like Bobby because Bobby was with Jessica.
[01:01:53] Yeah.
[01:01:53] And Ryan seemed like the nice guy and Bobby was kind of douchey until after Jess was with Ryan.
[01:01:58] And then I was like, oh, Ryan's also a douchebag.
[01:02:01] And then I was like, actually, these people all kind of suck, if I'm honest.
[01:02:06] I don't think anybody in this movie is not terrible in some way.
[01:02:12] Well, Jessica just kept saying, I wish I'd never taken us to the store.
[01:02:17] If I hadn't gotten us in the store, none of this would have happened.
[01:02:21] Yes, it would have.
[01:02:23] Because your father owned the store.
[01:02:25] There would still have been a riot.
[01:02:28] Yeah.
[01:02:29] I mean, it was going to happen.
[01:02:31] They were going to, you know, your dad was going to be held responsible.
[01:02:37] There was one deleted scene, though, that shows Jessica, like, rifling through Mitch's truck.
[01:02:45] And she finds this card that has, like, handwriting on it that they think is close to, like, the little place cards that Carver put around the table.
[01:02:57] But then it goes further, and she gives it to Eric, and Eric goes to Mitch about it.
[01:03:04] And they have this conversation where you learn that Mitch is really pissed at Eric, because he feels like the rights got away with what happened at the store.
[01:03:16] Like, they were not held responsible for what happened there.
[01:03:21] Yeah.
[01:03:21] And so he's angry at him for that.
[01:03:23] And there's just different interactions about how he, when Eric was going through his divorce, Mitch and Amanda were there for him.
[01:03:33] He slept on their couch.
[01:03:34] They took care of him.
[01:03:35] But then when Mitch is trying to, you know, deal with the loss of his wife, Eric is nowhere to be found.
[01:03:44] Like, he didn't come to visit.
[01:03:45] He didn't come to help.
[01:03:47] And Mitch just basically says, I'm getting my settlement money, and I'm leaving.
[01:03:51] Like, I just can't wait to get out of this town.
[01:03:55] There's the moment, like, right before the parade where we see Mitch put on the John Carver mask and the hat and walk out.
[01:04:01] And it was at that moment I immediately went, so he's definitely not the killer.
[01:04:04] No.
[01:04:06] And I figured that's exactly what it was going to be, is like, he got together with some like-minded individuals to do that in order just to, like, instill fear in the people on the float.
[01:04:16] Yep.
[01:04:17] And then to go out and, like, picket or whatever.
[01:04:23] Yeah.
[01:04:24] There were moments like that that, like, completely deflected you off it because, and you knew.
[01:04:30] Okay, no, he's definitely not the killer.
[01:04:33] But I still think there has to be an accomplice.
[01:04:37] And I've got a crazy idea that maybe Ryan is his son.
[01:04:46] Could be.
[01:04:46] He was the new kid from out of town randomly.
[01:04:49] Who knows?
[01:04:54] And, you know.
[01:04:55] He's Amanda and Eric's unborn son from the future.
[01:05:02] Who somehow, I don't know.
[01:05:05] No.
[01:05:05] I'm not going to try to figure that out.
[01:05:07] I created this whole thing in my head where he had a son with his wife before he left or that, I don't know, he got someone pregnant in high school and they had the baby and gave it up for adoption.
[01:05:20] I don't know.
[01:05:21] I was creating it in my head.
[01:05:23] For how he could have an accomplice and who the accomplice could be.
[01:05:27] Yeah.
[01:05:27] So he grew up and, you know, adopted or a different system and then realized who his real parents are and went, I'm half hillbilly!
[01:05:35] And then went, oh, wait, that's a different movie.
[01:05:41] I feel like we need to cover Tucker and Dale once a year.
[01:05:45] We've already done it, but I feel like we need to do it again.
[01:05:49] I don't know.
[01:05:50] Every week.
[01:05:51] We'll just do it every week.
[01:05:52] We'll just switch this to a Tucker and Dale versus a little podcast.
[01:05:56] And that's it.
[01:05:57] We just watch.
[01:05:58] I have found at least one podcast that we just watch the same movie every week and just talk about it again in a different way.
[01:06:06] Really?
[01:06:07] It's more of a comedy thing, but it's like.
[01:06:09] How do you?
[01:06:10] I don't know.
[01:06:11] I'm not sure how you do that, though.
[01:06:13] Yeah.
[01:06:14] Man.
[01:06:15] Okay.
[01:06:16] It's like, I don't know.
[01:06:17] Episodes get really interesting after it's like, all right, this is the 317th time we've watched this movie.
[01:06:23] What's there new to say about it now?
[01:06:26] Well, you know, I counted and she had four eyebrow hairs that were out of place here.
[01:06:35] And then over here, she was wearing different colored shorts than I remembered.
[01:06:42] I don't know.
[01:06:43] I don't.
[01:06:44] Yeah.
[01:06:45] It would end up being just the stuff where you would memorize a movie line for line, frame by frame.
[01:06:50] Like it would just be.
[01:06:51] Oh.
[01:06:52] A movie would live in your head.
[01:06:53] Like you did with Scott Pilgrim versus the world.
[01:06:57] Maybe.
[01:07:02] But yeah, that's all the notes I got.
[01:07:05] Did a little differently because I didn't really have character notes for the most part because it was just not that kind of movie.
[01:07:12] Um, sometimes some movies we cover lend themselves differently to the way of breaking down.
[01:07:18] I was like, yeah, this one just doesn't really work with like picking a character and going through and then another character.
[01:07:24] You can't.
[01:07:25] Yeah.
[01:07:26] Because I feel like you'd have to pick two or three characters and go through it.
[01:07:32] Well, this is Jessica to here and then we'll do Eric from here to here and then someone else from here.
[01:07:39] Yeah.
[01:07:40] It doesn't work.
[01:07:41] Sometimes movies just don't work that way.
[01:07:43] You just can't do it.
[01:07:45] And I think it's okay.
[01:07:47] We adapt.
[01:07:48] We're very adaptable.
[01:07:50] I have no patience, but I'm very adaptable.
[01:07:53] You survive.
[01:07:54] Outlast.
[01:07:55] What?
[01:07:56] I don't know.
[01:07:58] Survivor.
[01:07:59] Oh.
[01:08:00] Outplay.
[01:08:01] Outwit.
[01:08:02] Outlast.
[01:08:03] I don't know.
[01:08:04] I don't know.
[01:08:04] I haven't watched it.
[01:08:06] I haven't watched Survivor in 20 years.
[01:08:09] I don't know.
[01:08:10] I haven't watched it since the winner's season where they brought back all winners and they voted out all the winners that I liked.
[01:08:18] And I was so mad and I just decided I'll finish this season, but I'm done.
[01:08:26] Maybe I'll go back to it someday, but I don't know.
[01:08:31] I've got just a couple of things.
[01:08:34] Patrick Dempsey read the script for this.
[01:08:36] He really wanted to do the movie.
[01:08:38] So he had his agent call and talk to Eli Roth, who said, I don't think we can afford him.
[01:08:45] And the agent said, I don't think you realize he really wants to do this movie.
[01:08:52] Also, Gina Gershon texted him and said, when are you going to put me in a horror movie?
[01:08:57] And he's like, actually, I have a role for you.
[01:09:01] And he actually kind of wrote the role of Amanda for her.
[01:09:07] And some of the teens that are in the movie, the character names are based on people that he went to school with.
[01:09:15] Like, he named them after that.
[01:09:18] And the last thing I'm going to say is that when Eli Roth put the trailer together, his original thought for it was a kid who's in love with a turkey.
[01:09:28] And then his father killed it.
[01:09:29] And then he killed his family and went away to a mental institution and came back and took revenge on the town.
[01:09:36] Okay.
[01:09:37] So, so Halloween.
[01:09:38] Kind of.
[01:09:39] Yes.
[01:09:40] In a way.
[01:09:41] And in this interview that he did with Total Film Magazine, he said, the film doesn't fit that description anymore.
[01:09:49] Let's just pretend that it, you know, Thanksgiving was a movie from 1980 that was so offensive that every print was destroyed.
[01:09:58] All the scripts were burned.
[01:09:59] The director disappeared.
[01:10:01] The crew members changed their names.
[01:10:03] And one person saved the trailer and uploaded it to the darkest corners of 4chan.
[01:10:07] And now it's made it out.
[01:10:09] So this is a 2023 reboot.
[01:10:12] That would be Thanksgiving.
[01:10:14] Yes.
[01:10:16] Yes.
[01:10:18] So.
[01:10:19] That's the premise of Thanksgiving 3.
[01:10:20] Yes.
[01:10:21] Is it?
[01:10:22] Is it really?
[01:10:23] Oh my God.
[01:10:24] It really is.
[01:10:27] Why am I getting the impression that Eli Roth has never seen Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving 3?
[01:10:34] And that surprises me because it seems like he would want to watch strange movies.
[01:10:40] Well, no, it makes me feel like he would have because then that would have been, if he said that, that would be a direct.
[01:10:45] Like the joke.
[01:10:46] Joke.
[01:10:47] Yeah.
[01:10:47] Is exactly what that did.
[01:10:48] Yeah.
[01:10:49] Exactly what that is.
[01:10:49] So maybe it's a joke.
[01:10:50] I mean, it's just.
[01:10:52] It's a joke.
[01:10:53] It's just.
[01:10:54] It's the way.
[01:10:56] Yeah.
[01:10:56] Yeah.
[01:10:57] That's it.
[01:10:59] I feel like we covered it, Peg.
[01:11:01] I feel like we had a lot of fun with this one.
[01:11:05] I knew it would be.
[01:11:07] I'm down for Thanksgiving 2 if they do it.
[01:11:11] It'll be two years before we get to cover it because it will come.
[01:11:14] Well, they.
[01:11:14] Yeah.
[01:11:15] They didn't.
[01:11:15] They never did Thanksgiving.
[01:11:17] I mean, Thanksgiving 2.
[01:11:19] Not Thanksgiving.
[01:11:20] They did Thanksgiving 3.
[01:11:21] Yes.
[01:11:21] I'm aware of that.
[01:11:23] Which is the second one.
[01:11:25] But that's because the second one was so horrible and offensive and awful that every single copy was destroyed.
[01:11:34] And then Turkey goes to space and like or something and he finds the one copy and brings it back.
[01:11:41] So, yeah, the joke that you mentioned literally is the plot to Thanksgiving 3.
[01:11:47] Wonderful.
[01:11:51] And that movie is so bad in so many different ways.
[01:11:56] Like not even.
[01:11:57] So, I like Thanksgiving because it's a $15 budget shit fest that is just fun to watch for that reason.
[01:12:06] Thanksgiving 3 we'll never cover because.
[01:12:09] Are you sure?
[01:12:10] I don't want to put myself through that ever again.
[01:12:12] Okay.
[01:12:13] So, that's.
[01:12:14] I'm good.
[01:12:14] That's going on the list with.
[01:12:16] Okay.
[01:12:16] So, Thanksgiving 3.
[01:12:18] Hobo with a shotgun.
[01:12:19] No, I wouldn't.
[01:12:20] I wouldn't jump those two movies together because I liked Hobo with a shotgun.
[01:12:24] Okay.
[01:12:24] All right.
[01:12:25] It's just rough.
[01:12:26] Okay.
[01:12:28] All right.
[01:12:31] Thanksgiving 3 was just a movie that never should have been made.
[01:12:34] Ever.
[01:12:35] Ever.
[01:12:37] Well, they tried.
[01:12:41] I mean.
[01:12:42] I don't know.
[01:12:43] They did something.
[01:12:44] Did they really try?
[01:12:47] Ugh.
[01:12:49] It was bad.
[01:12:50] It was bad.
[01:12:50] There goes the fever.
[01:12:53] Oh, wow.
[01:12:55] Save us from this.
[01:12:56] See if anybody else had some thoughts on this holiday special.
[01:13:02] All right.
[01:13:03] We actually do have quite a good little bit of feedback this week.
[01:13:06] I'm excited for that, of course.
[01:13:09] First, we've got some teacup and other related feedback to start with.
[01:13:14] So, Daphne, go ahead and let you kick it off.
[01:13:15] All right.
[01:13:16] Well, Renee said, I'm looking forward to listening to this.
[01:13:19] We're looking forward to you listening to this as well.
[01:13:23] I hope you liked it.
[01:13:25] And we'd love to hear from you on what you thought about the series.
[01:13:29] And then we've got one from Christy.
[01:13:31] It says, loved the Run for Your Lives cast on teacup.
[01:13:34] And signs is one of our favorite M. Night Shyamalan movies.
[01:13:38] Can't wait to listen.
[01:13:38] Again, Christy, thanks for the feedback.
[01:13:41] And yeah, let us know if you like the episode on signs.
[01:13:47] Catherine says, teacup reminded me of from Stephen King's Under the Dome and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
[01:13:56] Yep.
[01:13:57] Kids, they're so stupid.
[01:13:59] I love them so much it hurts.
[01:14:01] I knew I'd like this show when this line followed a story about a kid falling asleep in an oven.
[01:14:07] Between all the amazing characters, their intertwined stories, and a guest host, I'm hoping for a three-hour episode.
[01:14:15] I really hope it gets renewed for another season, as I have so many questions about the aliens and their motives, plus the fate of the survivors.
[01:14:24] Awesome.
[01:14:25] Yeah, thanks.
[01:14:26] Yeah, maybe not three, but still long for this podcast.
[01:14:29] We went about two.
[01:14:31] Yeah.
[01:14:33] Ashley says, I'm halfway through teacup, and once I finish, I'll listen.
[01:14:37] I'm liking the show so far.
[01:14:39] Good.
[01:14:39] All right.
[01:14:40] We liked it.
[01:14:42] Yeah.
[01:14:42] Yeah, we had lots of thoughts.
[01:14:44] Well, moving on to Thanksgiving, which is the movie we're covering this week.
[01:14:52] Catherine, always coming through for us.
[01:14:54] She says, I love this one.
[01:14:56] It was my second watch, and I still didn't catch how to share it.
[01:15:01] McDreamy managed everything.
[01:15:04] Secret tunnels.
[01:15:05] The gore effects were incredible, especially the carving of Kathleen and the tenderizing of Evan's head.
[01:15:12] The sacrificial inflatable turkey was the perfect end to a fantastic campy experience.
[01:15:19] Yes, and I love the secret tunnels callback.
[01:15:22] That's incredible.
[01:15:23] Thank you, Catherine.
[01:15:27] Yeah, not sure.
[01:15:30] Maybe, or accomplice.
[01:15:34] I don't know.
[01:15:35] Who knows?
[01:15:35] I guess we'll hopefully see, because they're going to make another one.
[01:15:40] And lastly, Laura says, can't wait to hear your podcast.
[01:15:43] I thought the movie was pretty good.
[01:15:45] I watched it in October for Halloween scare time.
[01:15:48] Ooh, yeah.
[01:15:50] Which, again, we talked about this at the beginning of this episode.
[01:15:54] Again, that inside baseball, behind the scenes, breaking the fourth wall thing.
[01:15:58] We recorded this episode originally on Halloween.
[01:16:02] Halloween.
[01:16:03] So it was kind of like, yeah, it was a weird thing.
[01:16:08] Timing, you know.
[01:16:09] Similar.
