[00:00:00] Hmm? Ah! Hmm.

[00:00:04] Run for Your Lives Podcast!

[00:00:06] You're listening to the Run For Your Lives Podcast.

[00:00:10] Hi everyone, welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.

[00:00:35] And I'm Pake.

[00:00:36] And this is the Run For Your Lives Podcast.

[00:00:40] This episode we'll be talking about the supernatural horror film Smile 2, written and directed by Parker Finn and released October 18th, 2024.

[00:00:50] And I went to see it in the theater.

[00:00:53] Yeah, and I didn't.

[00:00:55] This was first time watch for me, but I knew we were going to cover this as we covered the first one previously.

[00:01:02] So we've been waiting on this one.

[00:01:04] Yeah, I'm going to go ahead just off the bat.

[00:01:07] I'm a little under the weather this week.

[00:01:09] So if I'm sniffly and my voice sounds a little strange and I don't have a lot to say sometimes, that's why.

[00:01:15] I'm just letting you know now.

[00:01:17] The show must go on.

[00:01:18] Yes, it must.

[00:01:20] Yeah.

[00:01:21] So, yes, I did go see this in the theater.

[00:01:25] I was intrigued.

[00:01:27] It was another film that was using this pop star premise, which we kind of got with Trap, which we did a couple episodes again.

[00:01:36] Ago.

[00:01:37] Ago, not again.

[00:01:39] As you mentioned that.

[00:01:39] Yeah.

[00:01:40] Yeah.

[00:01:40] No, as you mentioned that again, like you'll say something like, yep, I got a note that goes back.

[00:01:44] It's wild to me that there have now been two movies in the same season in which a horror story serves a way to also let a leading actress showcase their musical ability through recording and releasing numerous songs under the name of the fake artists they portray in the movie.

[00:01:57] Right.

[00:01:58] I mean, come on.

[00:01:59] And I would be lying if I said I didn't listen to any of these songs outside of them being in the film.

[00:02:07] I absolutely did.

[00:02:08] I have listened to the Sky Riley EP a bunch of times.

[00:02:13] I really like the songs.

[00:02:14] I think they're cool.

[00:02:15] Mm hmm.

[00:02:16] So they're fun.

[00:02:18] New Brain is my favorite.

[00:02:20] I just.

[00:02:21] Yeah.

[00:02:22] So, I mean, who doesn't go through a period where you're just like, I need a new brain because this one's dead.

[00:02:28] You know, there's too much going on and too much to do.

[00:02:32] And your head is spinning and it's like, no, this brain is done.

[00:02:37] I need a new one.

[00:02:40] At least for me.

[00:02:41] That's how I feel sometimes.

[00:02:44] So we will kick this off with some production notes like we always do was filmed in Ellenville, Newberg, Poughkeepsie and Albany, New York.

[00:02:56] It's a sequel to the 2022 film Smile new cast, but it's a continuation.

[00:03:02] And with one familiar face.

[00:03:04] Mm hmm.

[00:03:05] Um, Naomi Scott actually saying, as we mentioned, a six song soundtrack called Smile to the Sky Riley LP.

[00:03:15] And it that's on Spotify.

[00:03:18] I've like I said, I've listened to it a bunch of times.

[00:03:20] The budget was 28 million.

[00:03:23] It grossed 132.8 million at the box office.

[00:03:27] It's 122 minutes long.

[00:03:29] And then, Pake, bring us that synopsis.

[00:03:33] All right.

[00:03:34] About to embark on a world tour, global pop sensation Sky Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events.

[00:03:42] Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Sky is forced to face her past.

[00:03:48] Yes.

[00:03:49] Yes.

[00:03:49] Yes, she is.

[00:03:50] And her present and future.

[00:03:52] All at the same time.

[00:03:55] Well, I mean, we should say, she's the main character.

[00:03:58] All of my notes are about her, except for a couple things about different people.

[00:04:05] There was one other person.

[00:04:07] There was the character of Joshua.

[00:04:11] I loved when I rewatched it because I had just watched Agatha all along.

[00:04:17] Yes.

[00:04:17] And to see him pop up in this, it was like, ah, yes, this is great.

[00:04:24] That's like one of the only notes that I have that's not Sky related.

[00:04:31] There's a few, but yeah, Joshua, yeah.

[00:04:33] Miles Gutierrez Riley, which is funny that his last name, or at least one of his last names would say it's Gutierrez Riley.

[00:04:41] It's Riley.

[00:04:41] But Riley being the character of Sky Riley, I was like, ah, that's kind of fun.

[00:04:47] Yeah, I really, he wasn't in Agatha all along that much, but.

[00:04:54] But he was really good.

[00:04:56] He was really good.

[00:04:56] Where he was, was noticeable.

[00:04:59] It was really fun.

[00:05:00] Yeah.

[00:05:00] As small as it was at the time.

[00:05:04] Yeah.

[00:05:04] Really liked it.

[00:05:05] Um, but yeah, most of my notes, like I said, they're about Sky.

[00:05:13] Before we dig into Sky, I, I want to say that I liked the way that Parker Finn chose to continue the story by not focusing on Joel.

[00:05:23] Because he could have done a whole movie focusing on Joel, which is the police officer from the first film.

[00:05:29] Um, because we know the entity was passed on from Rose to him.

[00:05:35] I really liked, uh, that we didn't get that, that he chose to go in a different direction.

[00:05:41] I also liked that Joel's idea was to pass it on to some evil fucker.

[00:05:49] Yeah.

[00:05:51] Yeah.

[00:05:51] The little bit that we got him, it was cool.

[00:05:53] Yeah.

[00:05:54] We, we, it kind of isn't a direct continuation as far as picking up with him, but it's just for that little bit.

[00:06:01] Yeah.

[00:06:01] It's like six days after the first movie.

[00:06:04] Uh, so we know that it's like within a week.

[00:06:06] So he's like hitting that timeline.

[00:06:09] And so that's, he's come up with this plan of passing the entity on without having to kill himself by finding some like gangster who's killed like a family and stuff like just a vicious, ruthless guy.

[00:06:22] And it comes up with, you know, figures out his plan, his schedule, whatever he does, but he has it set up to where basically he kills his brother right in front of him.

[00:06:29] Um, but then because it's this trap house full of gangsters, things go sideways.

[00:06:34] Uh, the gangster ends up dying as well.

[00:06:37] And so then Joel's plan is screwed and then other people show up.

[00:06:40] Lewis is also there.

[00:06:42] Poor Lewis.

[00:06:42] Even though, which was weird because like he doesn't catch it from there.

[00:06:49] Like the fact that it gets back to Lewis at some point is just complete random happenstance, which is weird.

[00:06:54] Yeah.

[00:06:54] I'm not really sure.

[00:06:55] Like why was he even there to begin with?

[00:06:56] Uh, but yeah, just as a familiar face, I guess, but it almost makes less sense that he was there.

[00:07:03] Then it was just, he was happenstance somebody came to later.

[00:07:07] But yeah, but either way, like all that like goes to shit.

[00:07:10] So you don't even really know who has it by the end of that opening scene.

[00:07:15] No.

[00:07:16] Joel's trying to escape from like the gang and gets hit by a truck running away from the trap house.

[00:07:21] Oh my God.

[00:07:22] You don't even know where it sits.

[00:07:24] So then they pick up a year later with sky.

[00:07:26] So like whatever journey the entity had been on between that scene and a year later, we're not really sure.

[00:07:32] No, it wasn't a year later.

[00:07:36] Um, it had been a year since her accident, but I don't think, yeah, I don't think it was a year later.

[00:07:41] So I think Lewis got it there, but he must've witnessed Joel dying because that's the way that it passes.

[00:07:51] Yeah.

[00:07:52] So he must've seen it.

[00:07:56] And then they don't.

[00:07:58] I guess if that's.

[00:07:59] Yeah.

[00:08:00] Cause that's usually.

[00:08:01] So I was taking the year was, yeah.

[00:08:02] But if that's from her accident, cause then when she, when it first started, I was like, oh, was she in that truck?

[00:08:07] That's what I thought too.

[00:08:08] That's what I thought at first.

[00:08:09] But then it was like, oh, nevermind.

[00:08:10] It's completely separate accident unrelated to that.

[00:08:15] Uh, and I was like, what are the connecting threads?

[00:08:16] I'm not sure.

[00:08:17] Uh, but no, maybe if it, if that would, Joel happened right before we pick up.

[00:08:23] Yeah.

[00:08:24] The sky story.

[00:08:25] Then I guess somehow you can make, make it make sense that Lewis got it there.

[00:08:30] Yeah.

[00:08:31] Cause he was.

[00:08:32] Hey.

[00:08:32] Like it almost like defaults.

[00:08:33] Like Joel gets hit and then he's like, I don't know where to go.

[00:08:35] I guess we'll go to the last person who saw something fucked up besides that.

[00:08:38] Uh, this guy.

[00:08:40] Uh, I don't know.

[00:08:41] Maybe because I don't know.

[00:08:43] Maybe it did have something to do with, with Joel killing the drug dealer inadvertently.

[00:08:48] I don't, I don't know.

[00:08:50] Yeah.

[00:08:52] I liked his idea.

[00:08:53] Yeah.

[00:08:54] I thought that was a great idea.

[00:08:57] Um, and it also shows Joel's conscious, you know, how conscientious he is in his conscience,

[00:09:05] um, to not want to pass it on to someone who was innocent.

[00:09:10] Yeah.

[00:09:11] I mean, he cared about Rose.

[00:09:14] So that's the reason he ended up with it in the first place.

[00:09:19] Um, but that was the connection that, that was, yeah, that was the connection.

[00:09:26] I'm not sure how Lewis got it, but let's just say Lewis ended up with it.

[00:09:35] Mm hmm.

[00:09:36] Somehow.

[00:09:36] And where was, where was that at?

[00:09:38] I guess somewhere upstate and then Lewis was back into the city.

[00:09:40] I don't know.

[00:09:41] Yeah.

[00:09:41] Yeah.

[00:09:43] He, the actor that played Lewis.

[00:09:47] Lucas Gage.

[00:09:48] Oh my God.

[00:09:48] He did, he did a great job with it.

[00:09:50] He played the like cracked out drug guy real well.

[00:09:56] He's great.

[00:09:56] I love him for the little bit of stuff I've seen him in.

[00:09:59] He had really great roles in both you on Netflix and, uh, in the white Lotus.

[00:10:05] And I really liked him in both of those shows.

[00:10:07] So he's fun to see on my screen.

[00:10:09] He's, he's really good at playing like the, like young douchey, like whatever kind of guy

[00:10:16] that you're just like, this guy has no idea what the fuck is going on at any time.

[00:10:19] Like he's great at that role.

[00:10:20] Cause he, yeah.

[00:10:21] The other shows I've seen him in he's, he's really fun with those.

[00:10:23] Well, I mean, I don't know how he was even in the background when Joel came in with the

[00:10:29] drug dealers brother, because I mean, you don't hear anything.

[00:10:34] You don't know that he's even there.

[00:10:36] Then all of a sudden there's noise.

[00:10:38] It's like, you'd think he would have made noise when Joel comes in with the guy.

[00:10:44] I mean, I don't know.

[00:10:46] I'm not nitpicking.

[00:10:48] I, I, you know, I'll say I really liked this movie.

[00:10:53] I thought it was a decent followup to the first one.

[00:10:55] I know they're going to make a third one or they're talking about making a third one.

[00:10:59] And everyone's thinking, oh, well, based on the ending, it could be a worldwide blah, blah, blah.

[00:11:05] I don't think Parker friend's going to go in that direction.

[00:11:08] He likes telling the one person point of view story.

[00:11:13] So I don't know.

[00:11:16] Yeah, I'm not sure.

[00:11:17] I, I did have, there was a point like I'm trying to see, I think it was pretty early on.

[00:11:24] Uh, after the first flashbacks that she has of her car accident, I think I wrote down a note where I said, I haven't seen any trailers or spoilers or anything on this.

[00:11:34] So it's a bold prediction time.

[00:11:36] I said, the entity is going to try to use the fame of sky and want her to kill herself on stage during a concert to spread to an entire arena of people.

[00:11:45] So early, so early in the movie.

[00:11:48] Once I realized, like, I was like, arena, like world tour.

[00:11:52] I was like, that's exactly what's going to happen.

[00:11:54] And then the movie took so many weird twists and turns.

[00:11:56] I was like, oh, they're not doing that.

[00:11:58] And then the ending came and I was like, yeah, totally called it.

[00:12:01] Well, we really got to see the entity, like, really got to see it.

[00:12:06] The way that was, that was something.

[00:12:10] I do want to say that the music in this movie, again, not the singing music, not skies music, but the little noises, the music and the sound effects and the things that were going on in the background during certain scenes.

[00:12:27] I really liked it always, like in the first one, it led to the creep, like added to this creep factor in the movie for me.

[00:12:37] And so I looked up the guy and his name is Cristobal Tapia Devere.

[00:12:43] And he also did the music in Girl with All the Gifts.

[00:12:47] Oh, nice.

[00:12:48] Which I thought was great, because we really enjoyed that movie.

[00:12:52] We covered it here on the podcast.

[00:12:55] Yeah.

[00:12:55] So, yeah.

[00:12:59] Anyway, I know I mentioned Trap and about the musician thing.

[00:13:04] I have to say that to me, that's the only similarity in the movie because I thought this was much better.

[00:13:11] Trap was so...

[00:13:14] No, I enjoyed this one a lot.

[00:13:18] It was, you know, another wild ride in the world of trauma, grief and guilt, because we sure love that here on Run For Your Lives.

[00:13:22] We do, for some reason.

[00:13:26] We really...

[00:13:26] We end up with those movies not even realizing it sometimes.

[00:13:29] Yeah, but...

[00:13:31] No, it was good.

[00:13:32] Are there some things that I'm a little complainy about if I wanted to be?

[00:13:37] Sure.

[00:13:38] Mainly the main thing, which we jump around, is just kind of the twist at the end where, like...

[00:13:46] It's a positive and a negative.

[00:13:49] Because there's this point where you're like, okay, they're putting us in her shoes as far as we don't know what's real.

[00:13:59] You know, she wakes up in the rehab with her mother there, and then the entity says through her mother, oh, I jumped to your mom so that I can make her kill herself in front of you.

[00:14:07] And then to go back to her, and then we have her, you know, covered in blood, carrying the glass shards.

[00:14:13] Like, oh no, did it manipulate her?

[00:14:15] And she killed her mom.

[00:14:16] And then it just goes complete nutso moment where she's, like, leaving this rehab with a gun and stealing a car.

[00:14:22] And then Gemma's not real.

[00:14:25] And then Morris...

[00:14:26] Is Morris even real?

[00:14:27] We don't know.

[00:14:28] No, we don't know.

[00:14:29] It's this point where it puts us in the place of the infected a little bit, where it's like, we're not sure what's real and what's not in certain circumstances.

[00:14:37] And so I think that's really cool.

[00:14:38] But then it kind of gets to that twist at the end where...

[00:14:42] Then I'm like, well, at what point was this all in her head or what was real?

[00:14:48] And it kind of...

[00:14:49] It's a little bit bothersome because you're like, well, there's so many cool, like, story things that, like, just maybe didn't happen and I don't know.

[00:14:57] And then it's just like, what did or didn't happen?

[00:15:00] What did she experience or not?

[00:15:03] Because then we find out Gemma never came over.

[00:15:06] She never had any interaction with her until the phone call.

[00:15:10] But even then, that was still within...

[00:15:13] Like, was that even real when she's in the car?

[00:15:15] Like, you don't...

[00:15:16] The things that they tried to twist on you were like, but you've twisted them in such a way that they counteract with each other.

[00:15:23] Your twist is making itself not make sense.

[00:15:26] Well, and as you said, though, they put us in her shoes.

[00:15:31] Yeah.

[00:15:32] Because it can be very confusing.

[00:15:34] What I decided in my own mind is that when the dancers were at her apartment and put the fist down her throat...

[00:15:49] Mm-hmm.

[00:15:50] That was the entity taking complete control of her.

[00:15:54] Yeah.

[00:15:54] And so anything after that, between that and the concert, was not really real.

[00:16:04] Yeah.

[00:16:05] That's where I'm leaning on.

[00:16:08] Which then, yeah, just means that she didn't go to rehab or anything.

[00:16:12] She just kind of woke up not herself.

[00:16:15] Mm-hmm.

[00:16:16] Basically, Indy had taken over, went to the concert, just rolled with it, kind of like cruised through on autopilot to get to that point where she could do what she did at the show.

[00:16:26] Yeah.

[00:16:27] But also, she gets overtaken by the entity on stage.

[00:16:31] Mm-hmm.

[00:16:31] And she's really confused.

[00:16:33] So it's like, did it come out and then back in?

[00:16:35] So it's still...

[00:16:35] That is confusing.

[00:16:37] Still not, yeah, it's still not connecting.

[00:16:39] Still not computing.

[00:16:41] Yeah.

[00:16:43] I think for her to realize when she gets on the stage that everything wasn't real, to give her that last moment, after she witnesses Lewis' death,

[00:16:55] the entity amps up toying with her and tormenting her and twisting things so that she doesn't realize it's like this slow descent into madness that we see.

[00:17:08] Yeah.

[00:17:09] And I think the thing at the end was basically the entity saying, you know, all hope is lost.

[00:17:17] You know, at least she realizes that she didn't kill her mother.

[00:17:28] I mean, I think that that, you know, probably brought her a little bit of relief in the last few minutes.

[00:17:37] I mean, what a way to end this movie having her kill herself with her microphone in front of all of her fans.

[00:17:48] Yeah.

[00:17:50] That's incredibly traumatizing to anyone that was there.

[00:17:54] And it made me start thinking, well, in any of these people, if they get infected from this, well, they're obviously traumatized from what they've just witnessed.

[00:18:06] So how many psychologists are going to be just looking at that and saying, no, no, no, this is normal.

[00:18:11] After you've been, you know, traumatized, of course, you're going to have feelings and be stressed out and go through all of this.

[00:18:21] And it will be disregarded.

[00:18:23] So I don't know.

[00:18:24] I'm not sure where Parker Finn's going to go with the next one, but I'm on board with whatever he wants to do.

[00:18:30] He's remaking a movie from 1981 called The Possession, and that was quite a film.

[00:18:41] So I'm interested in where he's going to take that.

[00:18:43] But as far as continuing this story, I'm down for whatever he wants to do.

[00:18:49] Yeah, we're just whatever it is.

[00:18:52] Yeah, I guess one other, because we're bouncing around, but that's fine.

[00:18:55] We do that all the time anyway, like pogo sticks.

[00:19:00] Yeah, because I mentioned Morris.

[00:19:01] So then I was like, is Morris even real?

[00:19:03] But I think he is.

[00:19:05] Their first meeting in the diner happened, and then she never talked to him again.

[00:19:09] She ran out, and he never heard from her again, I think is really what happened.

[00:19:12] Because the whole thing, because I was like, well, where did he go at the end?

[00:19:15] It's like, okay, none of that was even real.

[00:19:17] But did you recognize that actor playing Morris?

[00:19:19] Of course I did.

[00:19:20] Yes.

[00:19:20] Well, Peter Jacobson, with a life after Fear the Walking Dead.

[00:19:25] Good for him.

[00:19:26] Isn't that nice?

[00:19:27] I mean, he did have a life before Fear the Walking Dead, because he was on House for a while.

[00:19:35] For like five years.

[00:19:38] And yes, then he went on.

[00:19:43] He was on so many seasons, but I think he was only in like four episodes.

[00:19:47] Yeah.

[00:19:48] He just would show up randomly at different times.

[00:19:50] Randomly, yeah.

[00:19:50] Oh, guys, I'm still here.

[00:19:52] I'm still also here.

[00:19:53] Okay, bye.

[00:19:53] Bye.

[00:19:54] Yes, I recognized him.

[00:19:55] But mostly from House.

[00:19:57] And then he was also on a show called Colony, which was really well done, but never got the proper send-off that it needed.

[00:20:04] Like, it was one of those shows that ended without really getting the story wrapped up.

[00:20:10] So, let's go back to the beginning just to talk a little bit about who Skye is and what she's dealing with, because I have some notes about that.

[00:20:21] So, we know Skye's a pop star.

[00:20:25] We know she was in an accident.

[00:20:28] She's still in pain from this accident.

[00:20:30] And I feel like she's managed, or she's got minders.

[00:20:34] Her mother is constantly managing her.

[00:20:42] And is, you know, you know, Darius is paying the bill, and these are all the expectations.

[00:20:48] Like, I feel like she's living in this world where she has no control over anything at all.

[00:20:54] And she's just being pushed beyond her limits.

[00:20:58] And even when she tries to say that, no one listens.

[00:21:02] And that made me think of the movie Titanic.

[00:21:05] There's this point where Rose says to Jack, I'm in the middle of this room screaming, and no one is hearing me.

[00:21:13] And so, I feel like this is the situation that Skye is in.

[00:21:17] And, you know, she's almost being, like, patronized in, oh, you should feel really good about today.

[00:21:26] And I feel like her life is just not her own.

[00:21:30] It really belongs to everyone around her.

[00:21:33] Yeah.

[00:21:34] And she's just going along.

[00:21:36] Where you can even see her, like, disconnecting when she, as soon as she gets in the car, she puts the earbuds in.

[00:21:43] Like, she's just trying to disconnect because she has no control over anything.

[00:21:49] And I feel like they pushed her to do this tour before she was really ready.

[00:21:55] Yeah.

[00:21:56] No, her mom is definitely that kind of character that gives that vibe of, I mean, you hear it, like, in Hollywood and with celebrities and stuff all the time.

[00:22:06] I mean, Jenna McCurdy wrote a whole book about...

[00:22:10] Stage moms.

[00:22:11] Yeah, the horrors of that kind of stuff.

[00:22:15] And it kind of, maybe not to the point of, like, Jeanette McCurdy's, but, you know, it does seem like one of those kind of stage mom situations where it's like, no, my entire purpose and being is that my money and livelihood and everything comes from making sure you do what you're supposed to do as the celebrity, as the pop star.

[00:22:34] And so I'm going to continue to keep pushing you and signing you up for things and doing things because you're my meal ticket.

[00:22:41] And that's what it seemed like.

[00:22:44] And she has no control and she's still in pain.

[00:22:49] We see her at rehearsal and she's rehearsing for the performance of New Brain.

[00:22:57] And at one point she tweaks her back.

[00:23:02] And they want her to take a break.

[00:23:05] Like, he wants her to take a break, the director.

[00:23:08] And she's like, nope, nope, nope, I'm going to push through it.

[00:23:11] And I think that's how she's done everything since the accident.

[00:23:15] She just keeps pushing through it.

[00:23:18] And there's a point where you just can't take anymore.

[00:23:21] And her body, you know, she was pretty banged up.

[00:23:24] Not just banged up.

[00:23:25] She had broken bones.

[00:23:26] She's got this huge scar on her stomach, you know, from surgery associated with the accident.

[00:23:35] And she's doing the best that she can.

[00:23:38] Yeah, she has a lot of physical and mental damage from that whole situation.

[00:23:45] Yeah, physically, her back is constantly in pain.

[00:23:48] Like, she's self-medicating.

[00:23:49] That's why she runs back into Lewis.

[00:23:52] She's on Vicodin just through a drug dealer because of her history of drug use and abuse.

[00:23:58] That nobody will prescribe her anything strong enough that she needs.

[00:24:02] And so she's taking it upon herself.

[00:24:06] And so, yeah, you see just like the actual physical pain and recovery that she's in.

[00:24:12] But then also, yeah, mental with these like flashbacks that we keep getting of the wreck.

[00:24:17] And it's like this guilt or stuff that she was so strung out and so doped up on drugs and stuff that she caused the accident.

[00:24:24] And her friend and the actor, Paul Hudson, ends up dead because of that situation and is kind of haunted by him as a ghost.

[00:24:34] I mean, the smile demon.

[00:24:36] He definitely uses him to its advantage.

[00:24:39] Absolutely.

[00:24:39] But even without the whole smile aspect of this movie, you can tell that she probably is haunted by him in some aspect.

[00:24:47] Even just like this mental thinking about him and always feeling that guilt constantly is something she's going to be dealing with anyway.

[00:24:53] Yeah, because she was strung out and they were both strung out when they were in that car.

[00:24:59] Yeah.

[00:24:59] And she'd caused the accident.

[00:25:02] Yeah, you're right.

[00:25:04] Did you know the actor who played her boyfriend, Paul Hudson?

[00:25:10] His name is Ray Nicholson.

[00:25:12] Mm-hmm.

[00:25:13] And he has a very famous father named Jack.

[00:25:18] Yeah.

[00:25:20] He definitely genetically inherited that creepy smiley ability.

[00:25:26] Yep.

[00:25:27] Parker Finn did not write the part with him in mind, but was very happy to capitalize on that when filming things.

[00:25:37] Because he does have that.

[00:25:38] All I could think of is Jack Torrance in The Shining.

[00:25:44] Yeah.

[00:25:45] When he's smiling at his wife and he's going after her with the axe.

[00:25:49] Right.

[00:25:50] It's like, oh, man.

[00:25:52] Yep, you do.

[00:25:53] You look like your dad.

[00:25:54] You've got those genetics.

[00:25:57] Yeah.

[00:25:59] So, yeah.

[00:26:00] So, I think that she basically...

[00:26:03] She is.

[00:26:04] She's self-medicating.

[00:26:05] And, I mean, how is she supposed to get through this tour if she has no...

[00:26:12] You know, she's in pain.

[00:26:14] Right.

[00:26:15] And no one's listening.

[00:26:16] So, even mentally and physically, yeah, like we talked about, I don't think she was ready for this.

[00:26:23] She's just kind of been thrust into it because the bank account's running dry when you're not being squeezed for everything we can get out of you.

[00:26:32] So, it's time to go do it whether you're ready or not.

[00:26:34] Exactly.

[00:26:36] And I do think for her, music is a release.

[00:26:38] Like, there's one point where she's playing the piano.

[00:26:42] And you can just tell, I think, that she...

[00:26:47] Playing the piano and immersing herself in music, even though it's the driving force and she's got to go perform and do all these things.

[00:26:53] At the essence of it, though, music is still kind of a safe place for her.

[00:26:58] Especially when it's under her control.

[00:27:00] Like, when she's able to do it on her own without someone else pulling it out of her.

[00:27:05] Or forcing her to do something.

[00:27:09] And, you know, everyone's counting on her for everything.

[00:27:12] And she's just...

[00:27:13] She's the cash cow.

[00:27:16] So, I feel like no one wants to listen to her.

[00:27:18] Even at this point where she's trying on a costume.

[00:27:22] Or showing this costume.

[00:27:24] She goes into the room and she's like, I'm not going to wear this.

[00:27:27] And her mom is trying to talk her into it.

[00:27:29] Well, it's your best one.

[00:27:30] And, you know, it's...

[00:27:32] But it shows her scar when the lights are on it and she doesn't want to do that.

[00:27:36] And no one is listening.

[00:27:39] Again, I got so frustrated for her.

[00:27:43] Again, that last scene of the movie where she's been taken over, you see what costume she's wearing.

[00:27:49] She didn't want to wear that costume because it made her, like, not feel as powerful, maybe.

[00:27:55] Because the scar shows up and it shows, you know, a weakness in her.

[00:28:00] Like, she doesn't want anyone to see that.

[00:28:02] But she accidentally loses the Vicodin that she had.

[00:28:09] And so she had to connect with Louis.

[00:28:11] And that's...

[00:28:11] So she's already going through so much mental and physical torment.

[00:28:15] But, yep, after going over to see Louis, that's where the entity officially weighs in.

[00:28:21] Yes.

[00:28:22] About 100 pounds, you think?

[00:28:25] Yeah.

[00:28:25] Uh-huh.

[00:28:27] You've been excited to share that one, haven't you?

[00:28:32] Hey, I may not have been feeling good while taking notes, but I still got to throw some...

[00:28:35] The puns are still there.

[00:28:35] Some puns in there.

[00:28:36] The puns are still in there.

[00:28:37] Yeah.

[00:28:38] They live there.

[00:28:39] So she witnesses this and she can't even tell anyone that she's seen it.

[00:28:45] And that's when...

[00:28:46] Because you witness the person killing themselves, basically, is what triggers the entity to go from one person to the next.

[00:28:57] And so she...

[00:28:58] The entity, you know, attaches itself to her.

[00:29:03] And it's not like taking over everything at first.

[00:29:06] It's just little things that it torments her with.

[00:29:10] Yeah.

[00:29:11] But it doesn't take long for it to go too tormenting her.

[00:29:14] Like...

[00:29:15] I mean, the same night, she goes back home and then, like, can't even fall asleep because she's seeing Louis' face and him just appearing in places.

[00:29:23] You know, Parker Finn likes to have those little jump scares.

[00:29:27] Mm-hmm.

[00:29:28] And...

[00:29:29] Even watching this a second time, there was one that I forgot about, and that was the one.

[00:29:35] And I was just like, yep, there we go.

[00:29:37] Yep, okay.

[00:29:38] Was it the one where she's watching the phone?

[00:29:40] Uh-huh.

[00:29:40] The video of Louis that Morris had sent her?

[00:29:43] Yes.

[00:29:44] And then he's right there.

[00:29:44] Yeah, that whole time.

[00:29:45] I was like, I know a jump scare's coming, but still, it was a very good one.

[00:29:49] Yeah.

[00:29:50] Yeah.

[00:29:50] Because I think you're expecting it to be on the phone, really, to be on the phone, but then it's there in front of her.

[00:29:58] Yeah.

[00:29:59] But it starts there and it continues the next day because she's...

[00:30:04] She has a signing and the little creepy girl with the smile.

[00:30:08] Oh, my God.

[00:30:09] And the fan before the creepy girl.

[00:30:13] Yeah.

[00:30:13] It was like the really terrifying fan interaction at the meet and greet wasn't the evil entity.

[00:30:18] It's like the one with the little girl in pigtails was definitely creepy, but the actual really terrifying guy was just actually a horrifying weirdo.

[00:30:26] Yes.

[00:30:26] In real life.

[00:30:28] That, yes, the entity is going to use later on whenever it appears like he showed up in her apartment.

[00:30:34] Yeah.

[00:30:34] But...

[00:30:35] Which he asked her to sign.

[00:30:38] She's signing.

[00:30:39] But then, and the photo op, which I thought, you know, Joshua was trying to move people through with the photo op, like, getting people through.

[00:30:49] And she was doing the best she could with it.

[00:30:53] She seemed okay with it.

[00:30:55] And then that interaction.

[00:30:57] And then the little girl with the smile.

[00:31:00] That freaked her out.

[00:31:03] Even, you know, so she had two instances where she was freaked out.

[00:31:09] And she just kept going with it.

[00:31:12] You know, and her mom encourages her, you know, she's like pulling her hair.

[00:31:18] I mean, Skye's pulling her hair out.

[00:31:22] She's stressed.

[00:31:23] Like, these are things that are affecting her.

[00:31:28] And she does not deal with them very well.

[00:31:31] And these are just the little things that start happening.

[00:31:37] I mean, she calls Gemma, who she hasn't talked to in a year.

[00:31:43] She texts her first.

[00:31:44] Yeah.

[00:31:44] And then she calls her.

[00:31:45] Based on their last text conversation, I was like, yeah, whatever happened between them clearly did not end well.

[00:31:53] I basically think that she was calling Gemma a leech.

[00:31:58] Like she was leeching onto her or whatever.

[00:32:03] And Skye's mom really wanted Gemma to be part of the tour.

[00:32:08] She wanted Skye to bring her on the tour because it was good for Skye, at least.

[00:32:13] It used to be good for Skye.

[00:32:15] But that whole thing with Gemma wasn't even real.

[00:32:18] But that shows how the entity was able to, like, quickly kind of take over and start the tourment and making it worse.

[00:32:32] And that whole thing went down.

[00:32:34] I mean, when it appeared like the creepy guy from the signing had broken into her apartment.

[00:32:44] And what a nice touch with the underwear on the floor.

[00:32:48] Yeah.

[00:32:48] It was wonderful.

[00:32:51] Yeah.

[00:32:52] It really stinks.

[00:32:54] So she's totally freaked out.

[00:32:56] And the whole thing with the water, like she was told to drink the water.

[00:33:01] I mean, you shouldn't be drinking water that way.

[00:33:05] It's not good to guzzle water like that.

[00:33:09] Physically, it's not an okay thing to do.

[00:33:11] Like, yeah, it's not something that you should be doing.

[00:33:17] You know?

[00:33:18] Yeah.

[00:33:20] But she did it.

[00:33:21] Like, there was no body double.

[00:33:23] That was Naomi Scott guzzling the water every time.

[00:33:28] And she actually cut her hair and dyed it for the role.

[00:33:33] Like, she did.

[00:33:34] She went full in on this.

[00:33:36] Yeah.

[00:33:38] Yeah.

[00:33:38] Yeah, she developed quite the quick water bottle chug.

[00:33:41] Yep.

[00:33:43] Yeah.

[00:33:43] For sure.

[00:33:45] Yeah.

[00:33:45] Yeah, the Gemma.

[00:33:46] There's another knockout.

[00:33:48] Another, I guess really the last extra character thing that I had was Gemma.

[00:33:55] Even though she ended up not being real and you don't actually see or hear the real Gemma at all in this movie except for.

[00:34:03] I think the phone call.

[00:34:04] But also, but also because that's still like in the car.

[00:34:09] That never happened.

[00:34:11] So I don't know.

[00:34:11] So we might actually not at all.

[00:34:14] Yeah.

[00:34:15] Gemma might have blocked her number and we never like there was no connection ever at all.

[00:34:20] But the Gemma we got in this one, I was questioning because I remember watching the first one and being like, we don't know what's real and what's not.

[00:34:29] So you can't really trust anybody because you think back to Rose with her therapist and the therapist coming over to talk to her and then it being the entity the whole time.

[00:34:37] And it's this.

[00:34:38] Those.

[00:34:39] So, you know, you remember those kind of things.

[00:34:40] You're like, OK, they're going to throw something like that at us.

[00:34:43] They're going to twist.

[00:34:43] So.

[00:34:44] So I really like Gemma.

[00:34:46] I think Gemma was my favorite character in the movie until there's like that twist where it's like and then, of course, she didn't real to begin with.

[00:34:54] The entity Gemma was your favorite character.

[00:34:57] Yeah, it was because she was she was great as far as I was like, you know, it's like she seemed extraordinarily chill over the phone.

[00:35:03] Yeah.

[00:35:04] And then when she shows up and like Skye is freaking out because she thinks Alfredo, this guy is in her apartment with her.

[00:35:10] And I was like, man, Gemma is a real one.

[00:35:12] Just picks up a blunt object ready to jump in.

[00:35:15] Not much questioning.

[00:35:16] Like, all right, what are we doing?

[00:35:17] What are we doing?

[00:35:17] It's funny that I use that word.

[00:35:19] She's a real one because no, she wasn't.

[00:35:22] Even when she's all in jumping into the car with her.

[00:35:26] Like to get away.

[00:35:27] Like she's all in to.

[00:35:29] You don't know how to drive, Skye.

[00:35:31] Like she's trying to help her.

[00:35:34] Yeah, I was like, Gemma, literal ride or die.

[00:35:37] Yeah.

[00:35:37] And then after the twist, I was like, no, scratch that literal ride and die.

[00:35:41] Got it.

[00:35:44] Yeah.

[00:35:44] And then I had one where I was like, we all need a Gemma in our life.

[00:35:47] And I was like, however, this movie makes me not able to fully trust anyone in it ever.

[00:35:52] But.

[00:35:55] And I was right to feel that way.

[00:35:57] Yes, you were.

[00:35:58] You definitely were.

[00:36:00] Yeah.

[00:36:01] Yeah.

[00:36:02] There was one weird point where, I mean, we think it's Gemma and they're laying in bed and she looks over and Gemma's smiling at her and then she opens her mouth and it's like headlights.

[00:36:14] Like that effect was just like, oh my God.

[00:36:17] I don't know why, but I was, I mean, I knew it was coming.

[00:36:20] I knew it was there, but I was just kind of like, that's effective.

[00:36:24] Like.

[00:36:24] Yeah.

[00:36:26] Of course, Sky wakes up and she's super light.

[00:36:28] And her mother has come over.

[00:36:31] Her mother didn't really react to Gemma, but Gemma said, you know.

[00:36:36] Should have been a clue.

[00:36:37] Right.

[00:36:38] It should have been a clue.

[00:36:39] But then again, Gemma says hi to her.

[00:36:43] So I don't know.

[00:36:46] But it wasn't real.

[00:36:47] It wasn't real.

[00:36:49] I mean, her mother being there, I think was real.

[00:36:51] That was real.

[00:36:52] So the fact that Gemma says like, oh, hi, Miss Riley.

[00:36:55] And then there's, or like, hi, Elizabeth or whatever.

[00:36:58] And there's no response.

[00:36:59] There's no response.

[00:37:00] Yeah.

[00:37:01] That should have been a clue, but didn't even think about it.

[00:37:03] Yeah.

[00:37:05] Yeah.

[00:37:05] You mentioned Sky like writing her own, like playing the music on the piano and stuff.

[00:37:09] And like, she's going through that booklet.

[00:37:10] And I was like, hey, she writes her own music.

[00:37:12] That's good.

[00:37:14] Always appreciate that in a musician, especially like pop stars and stuff where there's so many of them that just like have people write their stories.

[00:37:22] And it's like, okay, now go out and just sing and perform.

[00:37:26] Although a lot of some really big pop stuff.

[00:37:33] I know like Avril Lavigne, if you want to consider her a pop star, she has had that moment.

[00:37:38] A lot of her stuff was written by and like, I think even I can't say for sure certain artists.

[00:37:44] But one of my favorite things is a punk rock band, pop rock, like a rock band from New York.

[00:37:50] That's one of my favorites.

[00:37:50] It's my first tattoo ever.

[00:37:51] Bayside.

[00:37:53] And Anthony Ranieri, the lead singer and songwriter of Bayside has written so much pop music you hear on the radio.

[00:38:00] Like he's one of those that writes a lot of stuff for people on his free time when he's not doing Bayside stuff.

[00:38:08] But yeah, so you have those people who just have everything written for them by really talented songwriters.

[00:38:14] And so it was, I guess, like within this fictional world, it was nice to be like, well, at least Sky Riley is like, is like a Taylor Swift of this kind of thing where like she legitimately writes and creates her own stuff from scratch by herself.

[00:38:25] Yeah. And Naomi Scott was involved in the writing of the music for this.

[00:38:29] She really went all in on this character.

[00:38:33] And I agree.

[00:38:35] I really enjoy it more when the artist is involved in the creation of the songs because it seems more personal when they're, you know, when they're singing them.

[00:38:47] You can just there's just a vibe that you get.

[00:38:49] But they're more invested because it's something that it's a piece of them that they put out into the world and they get to sing it.

[00:38:57] Yeah.

[00:38:58] So a lot of the movie is like, again, I don't have a ton of notes because this movie very, I mean, kind of self explanatory.

[00:39:07] Very forward.

[00:39:07] But just like certain moments, I mean, we just see her continued downfall and mental break.

[00:39:15] Like the whole like charity event that she's part of that whole sequence.

[00:39:22] Very Samantha Sloyan and House of Usher vibes.

[00:39:26] No spoilers, but if you know, you know.

[00:39:28] Very much.

[00:39:28] It's like.

[00:39:29] Very much.

[00:39:31] Yeah.

[00:39:32] Absolutely.

[00:39:33] There's a specific scene in the fall of the House of Usher that I was like, oh, no, I see exactly where this is going to go.

[00:39:38] And yeah, I was like, man, how is that?

[00:39:42] How is that dinner gala that you went to?

[00:39:44] Oh, my God.

[00:39:45] It was wild.

[00:39:46] I'll tell you.

[00:39:47] Sky went up.

[00:39:47] She started joking about her drug use.

[00:39:49] She told a bunch of kids that an artist's life is full of misery.

[00:39:52] She started yelling about her dead friend.

[00:39:54] And then she threw an old lady through a table.

[00:39:56] By God.

[00:39:57] That Jezebel.

[00:40:02] Oh.

[00:40:03] Yeah.

[00:40:03] I felt bad for her.

[00:40:04] I think that going through the accident, it changed her.

[00:40:10] And I think she was trying to do or be a better person.

[00:40:16] And this, I mean, what do you do when the entity is after you?

[00:40:21] I did find it really interesting that Morris, Morris's way of wanting to deal with this was to try to kill her so that the host would leave the body.

[00:40:31] And then all I could think of was teacup, which we covered a couple episodes ago.

[00:40:36] Uh-huh.

[00:40:37] Yeah.

[00:40:37] I'm like, okay.

[00:40:38] It just reminded me of this movie reminded me of a lot of little things, like little things, little parts of other shows or movies or whatever.

[00:40:49] Yeah, which that whole Morris plan, again, I don't, nothing was real after their first encounter, I don't think.

[00:40:55] But what we see, I guess, just in Sky's mind is this like Pizza Hut freezer.

[00:41:01] But yeah, two minutes versus nine minutes for brain damage and such.

[00:41:06] I was like, who knows if that science holds up or actually makes any sense.

[00:41:09] I didn't look into it.

[00:41:10] I was like, yeah, I was like, but also who cares?

[00:41:12] Because this movie doesn't need that.

[00:41:14] And then especially after the twist, I was like, now who really cares?

[00:41:17] Because this whole thing didn't even happen.

[00:41:19] So whatever.

[00:41:20] It didn't.

[00:41:20] It's all in her head.

[00:41:21] Although I did enjoy the fight she had against herself.

[00:41:25] Yeah.

[00:41:25] Old Sky versus New Sky, I guess.

[00:41:28] I thought that was interesting.

[00:41:31] And she actually thought if she injected herself that that was going to save her.

[00:41:37] But at that point, she had already been taken over by the entity.

[00:41:40] And that was something that Morris had told her is, you know, time's running out for you.

[00:41:48] Because as soon as it takes you over, there's nothing you can do.

[00:41:53] Like he tried to get her to do something that night, but she ran away and.

[00:41:59] And that was it because people recognized her.

[00:42:02] And wanted pictures.

[00:42:04] It's like, okay, yes, world of the entitled, where we think we see someone that we idolize in a bar.

[00:42:13] They obviously look like they're hiding.

[00:42:15] Let's go and point out that they're here.

[00:42:18] Yeah.

[00:42:18] Just start filming them and yelling their name across the room.

[00:42:21] That's.

[00:42:21] Yeah.

[00:42:22] Totally a chill thing to do.

[00:42:24] Yep.

[00:42:24] Yep.

[00:42:25] If you really respect the artist or that you look up to.

[00:42:32] If you can see that they seem to be like they're trying to hide, don't out them.

[00:42:37] Yeah.

[00:42:38] I mean, all through all of this, everything that's happening.

[00:42:42] Her mother just keeps saying the tour, the tour, the tour.

[00:42:48] And at one point, which isn't real because it was when she woke up in the bed.

[00:42:54] She actually says to her mother, you treat me like I'm some kind of windup toy.

[00:43:00] And I'm like, yep, finally, you've said it.

[00:43:03] That's great.

[00:43:04] Nothing's going to change because it's all about, you know, what she's doing.

[00:43:09] And oh my goodness, she was going to get to recuperate for a day, Pake, a whole day.

[00:43:15] A whole day.

[00:43:16] Okay.

[00:43:18] Now that she'll be right as rain.

[00:43:19] Brand new.

[00:43:20] Yep.

[00:43:20] Sure.

[00:43:22] But then again, the entity finds a way of tormenting her by having her witness her mother kill herself.

[00:43:30] And then have it be actually, she killed her mother.

[00:43:34] And it was all a big hallucination.

[00:43:37] And when she's leaving, Darius is coming in and he's just like, think about the tour.

[00:43:42] Again, the tour.

[00:43:43] Does anyone care about this poor girl?

[00:43:46] Yeah.

[00:43:46] You know, I get that he's invested a lot of money, but maybe they should have really taken it into consideration if she was ready for this.

[00:43:56] Because I don't think she was.

[00:43:59] I think she put on a brave face.

[00:44:02] She gritted her teeth through it.

[00:44:04] And it was too much.

[00:44:06] And it made her the perfect person for the entity because I think the entity had an easier time with her.

[00:44:13] Because she was already mentally bruised and beaten.

[00:44:16] Yeah.

[00:44:16] There's already so much she was battling.

[00:44:18] Hit her.

[00:44:19] Other demons that she was already in a losing battle with at the time.

[00:44:22] Yeah.

[00:44:22] Yeah.

[00:44:23] So.

[00:44:24] Just jump on it.

[00:44:25] Yep.

[00:44:25] She's the perfect victim.

[00:44:27] Yeah.

[00:44:27] We keep seeing the recurring use of that hair pull stress response, which was just brutal.

[00:44:34] The sound.

[00:44:35] The sound.

[00:44:36] It's like.

[00:44:37] Because she's pulling on her hair and not much comes out.

[00:44:41] But the sound of it ripping.

[00:44:44] Oh, man.

[00:44:46] I'm like, man.

[00:44:47] This is.

[00:44:50] Yeah.

[00:44:51] And then there was other notes that I had.

[00:44:52] But then I was like, but then none of this was real after the fact.

[00:44:55] So I was like, why does it matter?

[00:44:58] Because it's in those moments where she's leaving the rehab.

[00:45:00] And I was like, well, I guess she has no choice but to just go full on crazy now.

[00:45:03] Because there's no putting this back in the bag.

[00:45:06] There's no putting a mask over this situation anymore.

[00:45:08] She's carrying a gun and waving around.

[00:45:10] It was like, but she's able to somehow pull herself back into control.

[00:45:14] And she gets to Morris.

[00:45:15] And then.

[00:45:16] It was like.

[00:45:17] And then none of that even happened.

[00:45:19] So he leaves the room and never comes back.

[00:45:22] Which is, again, another thing with the entity.

[00:45:27] I do think Morris was real when they were sitting in the bar.

[00:45:30] Yeah.

[00:45:31] I think the phone ringing was not people really calling her.

[00:45:34] I think it was the entity trying to keep her away from Morris.

[00:45:40] At least that's my theory.

[00:45:43] Because everyone was calling her.

[00:45:45] Her mother and Darius and her agency.

[00:45:47] And all these people were calling her in the middle of the night.

[00:45:50] Okay?

[00:45:51] Yeah.

[00:45:52] So, outside of character.

[00:45:54] I really liked the way that they had the upside.

[00:45:57] You know, things were upside down.

[00:45:59] Sometimes.

[00:46:01] And.

[00:46:01] It was a very niche reference that I didn't even make a note of.

[00:46:06] But it's still in my head.

[00:46:08] There's nobody that listens to this.

[00:46:10] Except for maybe Jeff.

[00:46:11] But I don't think he's even gone back.

[00:46:12] And I listened to some of that.

[00:46:14] But it's all a Dimension 20 dropout thing.

[00:46:16] Where it was like all very unsleeping city.

[00:46:19] With the upside down New York skyline.

[00:46:21] And that's all I could keep thinking.

[00:46:22] I was like, oh, okay.

[00:46:23] Yeah.

[00:46:25] Yeah.

[00:46:25] It definitely.

[00:46:26] I liked that a lot.

[00:46:29] There were just little things.

[00:46:31] Like the conversation between.

[00:46:34] Sky.

[00:46:35] And Paul.

[00:46:36] Going back and forth.

[00:46:37] While they're in the car.

[00:46:38] And the way the camera keeps shifting.

[00:46:40] That was really cool too.

[00:46:42] Like.

[00:46:42] The little details.

[00:46:44] I think.

[00:46:45] Went a long way.

[00:46:47] In this movie.

[00:46:49] Yeah.

[00:46:50] But in the end.

[00:46:51] Much like Rose.

[00:46:53] In the first movie.

[00:46:55] She does not survive.

[00:46:57] It's all for nothing.

[00:46:58] Yeah.

[00:47:01] Yeah.

[00:47:01] I'm trying to see if I had any other notes.

[00:47:04] Not really.

[00:47:04] Other than.

[00:47:05] Let's see.

[00:47:06] Just the entity.

[00:47:07] Kind of stuff.

[00:47:07] The smile demon choreography.

[00:47:10] With the whole like.

[00:47:11] Dance.

[00:47:12] Troop.

[00:47:13] Was a really cool scene.

[00:47:15] Just to see them like.

[00:47:17] Stacked up on each other.

[00:47:18] And like.

[00:47:19] Appearing in hallways.

[00:47:21] Yeah.

[00:47:21] The way they were moving.

[00:47:22] Like it was very.

[00:47:23] Very much.

[00:47:24] Music video.

[00:47:25] And stage performance.

[00:47:26] Choreography.

[00:47:27] Yeah.

[00:47:27] Type dance group.

[00:47:28] Kind of stuff.

[00:47:28] Which was really cool.

[00:47:30] Unsettling.

[00:47:30] But cool.

[00:47:31] And then.

[00:47:31] Obviously the whole arm.

[00:47:33] All the way down the throat part.

[00:47:34] Was like.

[00:47:34] Oh my god.

[00:47:35] That was.

[00:47:37] Twice.

[00:47:37] We had to kind of see that.

[00:47:39] Once with the arm down the throat.

[00:47:40] And then at the end.

[00:47:41] With the entity.

[00:47:42] Ripping her mouth.

[00:47:43] Yeah.

[00:47:44] Which.

[00:47:44] The return of the big.

[00:47:46] Gross.

[00:47:46] Ugly.

[00:47:46] True image.

[00:47:47] Of the entity.

[00:47:48] Because.

[00:47:48] We saw it like that.

[00:47:50] At the end of the first one.

[00:47:52] Yeah.

[00:47:52] When it takes over Rose.

[00:47:53] And so it's like that full.

[00:47:55] Reveal.

[00:47:55] So they came back and did it again.

[00:47:56] With this one.

[00:47:57] Which is cool.

[00:47:57] Yeah.

[00:47:58] Lots of smiling.

[00:47:59] And lots of teeth.

[00:48:00] It has.

[00:48:03] Those big.

[00:48:04] Those big.

[00:48:04] Weird.

[00:48:05] Saucery bug eyes.

[00:48:08] Just.

[00:48:09] Oh man.

[00:48:09] Like it almost looks goofy.

[00:48:12] But it.

[00:48:13] But it's still like really scary.

[00:48:15] You're like okay.

[00:48:16] I did like when she was at the gala.

[00:48:20] And.

[00:48:21] The teleprompter freezes.

[00:48:23] And she's talking about different things.

[00:48:24] She does talk about music fixing you.

[00:48:27] And the deeply broken person that you've been.

[00:48:30] And I.

[00:48:31] You know I kind of.

[00:48:33] Liked that.

[00:48:34] Because I know that.

[00:48:36] When you're going through a lot of stress.

[00:48:38] In life in general.

[00:48:40] Music can be a way of helping you cope with it.

[00:48:43] Or deal with it.

[00:48:45] If you listen to the right album.

[00:48:47] The lyrics will like speak to you.

[00:48:51] And.

[00:48:51] It can help you process.

[00:48:53] Maybe some of the stress and.

[00:48:55] The pain.

[00:48:57] That you're going through.

[00:49:00] Morris said his brother was eight people ago.

[00:49:03] And he tore his jaw off with a crowbar.

[00:49:06] Yeah.

[00:49:07] And I'm just like.

[00:49:07] And then there's just a random like.

[00:49:08] Just a little clip.

[00:49:10] Yeah.

[00:49:10] And then it moves on.

[00:49:11] It's like I didn't need that.

[00:49:12] I didn't need it.

[00:49:13] But thank you.

[00:49:13] And all I can think is.

[00:49:15] He.

[00:49:15] He may have done that with a crowbar.

[00:49:17] But it was like the.

[00:49:18] The entity was splitting it open.

[00:49:20] So she could crawl inside.

[00:49:22] Maybe.

[00:49:24] I'm not really sure.

[00:49:27] But.

[00:49:29] Yeah.

[00:49:30] I only have a couple of.

[00:49:32] Of other.

[00:49:34] Notes.

[00:49:37] Just that.

[00:49:38] Parker Finn.

[00:49:40] In this one.

[00:49:41] He wanted this glamorous.

[00:49:43] Fun.

[00:49:44] Pop star world.

[00:49:45] He thought it would be cool.

[00:49:46] To showcase that.

[00:49:48] Versus.

[00:49:49] The smile monster.

[00:49:50] Entity world.

[00:49:51] And.

[00:49:52] Once again.

[00:49:53] He tried to push things.

[00:49:55] As far as he could.

[00:49:57] I think he.

[00:49:59] You know.

[00:49:59] Did.

[00:50:00] A great job with that.

[00:50:02] He likes to go over the top.

[00:50:03] And I'm all in for it.

[00:50:05] Because I feel like.

[00:50:06] While he does like to do that.

[00:50:08] He doesn't overdo it.

[00:50:09] He.

[00:50:10] In some cases.

[00:50:11] Will push it just far enough.

[00:50:12] And in other cases.

[00:50:13] As he goes beyond.

[00:50:14] If he needs to.

[00:50:17] And.

[00:50:19] He did base it.

[00:50:20] I mean.

[00:50:21] If you're going to base.

[00:50:23] This character on.

[00:50:25] You're going to look at people.

[00:50:26] Like Taylor Swift.

[00:50:27] And Lady Gaga.

[00:50:27] And some of the bigger.

[00:50:29] Larger than life.

[00:50:30] Pop world.

[00:50:32] Famous people.

[00:50:34] Yeah.

[00:50:34] But he wanted to show.

[00:50:36] That it's a world of.

[00:50:37] You know.

[00:50:38] Fame.

[00:50:38] And fortune.

[00:50:39] But it's also a world of.

[00:50:40] Stress and horror.

[00:50:42] And I think he did that with this.

[00:50:44] Because.

[00:50:45] Sky.

[00:50:46] I mean.

[00:50:49] Even though.

[00:50:50] She was a flawed character.

[00:50:52] I.

[00:50:53] Felt bad for her.

[00:50:54] Like I still.

[00:50:55] Felt really bad.

[00:50:56] Because you could tell.

[00:50:58] That her life wasn't her own.

[00:50:59] And.

[00:51:00] Everyone was telling her what to do.

[00:51:02] And.

[00:51:02] So basically you're getting.

[00:51:04] This tragic story.

[00:51:06] That's even more sad.

[00:51:07] Because she's already defeated.

[00:51:09] And already broken down.

[00:51:10] And having to.

[00:51:12] You know.

[00:51:12] Pretend to be strong.

[00:51:13] And then there she is.

[00:51:15] You know.

[00:51:16] Getting.

[00:51:17] Taken over by the entity.

[00:51:19] And.

[00:51:20] Her life is destroyed.

[00:51:22] But.

[00:51:23] Yeah.

[00:51:23] Once again.

[00:51:24] We have done another movie that.

[00:51:26] Has music.

[00:51:28] Is a big part of it.

[00:51:29] So.

[00:51:29] I'm.

[00:51:30] I'm down with that though.

[00:51:32] I think it's.

[00:51:33] It's always fun.

[00:51:33] I think it's cool.

[00:51:35] All right.

[00:51:36] Check one in the books.

[00:51:37] We're getting close.

[00:51:38] Man.

[00:51:39] We've.

[00:51:40] Done a lot.

[00:51:40] We're getting close to the end of this season.

[00:51:42] We are.

[00:51:42] Just got a handful left.

[00:51:44] And.

[00:51:44] I know.

[00:51:45] Can you believe it?

[00:51:46] It's crazy.

[00:51:47] But yeah.

[00:51:48] This is another fun one to talk about.

[00:51:49] We love the.

[00:51:51] Dark and traumatic stuff.

[00:51:53] We don't mean to.

[00:51:54] I guess.

[00:51:55] But.

[00:51:55] Sometimes it.

[00:51:57] Brings out.

[00:51:58] Conversations.

[00:51:59] That.

[00:52:00] Are unexpected.

[00:52:01] Or.

[00:52:03] We end up going on.

[00:52:04] Side tangents.

[00:52:06] About mental health.

[00:52:07] Or.

[00:52:09] Coping.

[00:52:10] And dealing with.

[00:52:12] Sensitive subject matter.

[00:52:13] I mean.

[00:52:13] It's just.

[00:52:15] It's just what we do.

[00:52:17] It's one of those things that happens.

[00:52:19] In this podcast.

[00:52:21] And sometimes the conversations are.

[00:52:23] Deeper.

[00:52:24] And sometimes they're.

[00:52:25] Not.

[00:52:26] Sometimes we're covering a movie like.

[00:52:28] Thanksgiving.

[00:52:28] Where it's just.

[00:52:30] Silliness.

[00:52:30] And madness.

[00:52:31] And.

[00:52:32] Or.

[00:52:32] Tucker and Dale versus evil.

[00:52:34] Like.

[00:52:34] Movies that.

[00:52:35] Oh yeah.

[00:52:35] Don't take themselves too seriously.

[00:52:37] That we can really.

[00:52:38] Like.

[00:52:38] Enjoy talking about.

[00:52:39] But.

[00:52:40] We also can do these movies that.

[00:52:42] Are a little deeper.

[00:52:44] Or have.

[00:52:45] You know.

[00:52:46] More difficult subject matter.

[00:52:47] To talk about.

[00:52:49] Yeah.

[00:52:50] That's fine.

[00:52:54] Perfect timing.

[00:52:55] We can see what.

[00:52:57] Other people had to think about it.

[00:52:58] With.

[00:52:59] Feedback.

[00:53:00] Got the feedback phone.

[00:53:01] So.

[00:53:01] Let me get that.

[00:53:05] All right.

[00:53:05] Just a little bit of feedback.

[00:53:07] This week.

[00:53:08] One.

[00:53:09] Nice.

[00:53:09] Awesome.

[00:53:09] Message.

[00:53:10] From.

[00:53:12] Catherine.

[00:53:13] Of course.

[00:53:13] Always coming through.

[00:53:14] Always appreciate that.

[00:53:16] Where she says.

[00:53:17] Not many movies.

[00:53:18] Make me jump more than once.

[00:53:19] But I lost countless smile too.

[00:53:21] I didn't bother to track the time.

[00:53:22] I spent hugging my knees.

[00:53:23] With my hand over my mouth.

[00:53:25] It wasn't just the gore.

[00:53:26] Of the mom stabbing her face.

[00:53:28] Repeatedly.

[00:53:28] It was the perfectly choreographed.

[00:53:30] Group of smileys.

[00:53:31] Moving so slowly.

[00:53:32] Then speeding up.

[00:53:32] Just enough.

[00:53:33] That you know.

[00:53:33] There's no way.

[00:53:34] She can escape them.

[00:53:35] If I had to complain about anything.

[00:53:37] It's that two hours of watching poor Sky.

[00:53:39] Be psychologically and physically tortured.

[00:53:41] Was rough.

[00:53:42] But otherwise.

[00:53:43] I loved this one.

[00:53:45] That ending.

[00:53:46] How much of Morris was real?

[00:53:48] It's a great question.

[00:53:49] We were also wondering then.

[00:53:51] She finishes up with saying.

[00:53:52] Is the entity now in the entire audience?

[00:53:55] Will Jamie McGuire.

[00:53:56] A.K.A.

[00:53:57] Smiley.

[00:53:58] From From.

[00:53:58] Be in Smile 3.

[00:54:00] Insert a plug for the From cast.

[00:54:03] Yeah.

[00:54:04] Of course.

[00:54:05] Yeah.

[00:54:05] If anybody's watched From.

[00:54:06] Which we plug it every freaking week.

[00:54:09] Just about.

[00:54:09] Because it's such a great show.

[00:54:11] And people need to be watching it.

[00:54:12] Yeah.

[00:54:14] There's a character on there.

[00:54:15] Who's just kind of taken on the moniker of Smiley.

[00:54:19] Played by the incredible Jamie McGuire.

[00:54:21] And yeah.

[00:54:22] He's got.

[00:54:23] He should be in.

[00:54:24] They're working on Smile 3.

[00:54:26] They are.

[00:54:26] He should be in it.

[00:54:28] He's.

[00:54:29] He's good with that.

[00:54:31] And yeah.

[00:54:33] I don't know how much I should say.

[00:54:35] But it's interesting that you bring him up.

[00:54:37] And I'm not going to say much more than that.

[00:54:38] Because.

[00:54:39] Reasons.

[00:54:40] But.

[00:54:41] Interesting you bring up Jamie.
