[00:00:00] Hmm? Ah! Hmm.
[00:00:06] You're listening to the Run For Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:10] Welcome to the show. I'm Daphne.
[00:00:35] And I'm Pink.
[00:00:36] And this is the Run For Your Lives Podcast.
[00:00:40] This episode is our Christmas special, holiday special for 2024. That's right, it is that time again.
[00:00:48] It feels like we just did a Christmas special like 365 days ago.
[00:00:52] I know! It flew by.
[00:00:55] Yeah. No, really did. It's always so fast. I always feel like when the first half of the year,
[00:01:01] I'm like, oh no, things are at a good pace. Like it's gonna be, oh, it's December already. Okay, cool.
[00:01:08] In the middle of that thought, the rest of the year happened. Okay, cool.
[00:01:11] So always goes by so fast. But yeah, again, so if you're listening to this on the day we release it,
[00:01:17] then if you celebrate, Merry Christmas. It is December 25th. We released it a little bit early
[00:01:22] this week so you could listen on Christmas. It's a little gift from us to you.
[00:01:27] Yes, and we hope you enjoy it. It's a little bit outside. Not really, but kind of. It's more
[00:01:35] action-oriented than horror-oriented. But Peek, you haven't even told our listeners what the movie is.
[00:01:43] No, and I'm not going to. They have to guess. They have to guess what movie we're gonna cover,
[00:01:47] and then listen to the episode. Like, as we're talking about it, they have to figure out like all
[00:01:52] of our graphics, the title of this episode. We're not going to even say what it is. So
[00:01:57] if they're reading it, it just says, Episode 199
[00:02:02] Christmas Special. And that's all it says. And we were not telling them. No, I'm kidding.
[00:02:07] We could. Predictions. What movie do you think we're covering? No, as you see, I'm kidding. You can
[00:02:16] read very clearly on the title of the episode. Yes, this episode, we are talking about the Christmas
[00:02:20] action comedy film, Violent Night, directed by Tommy Workola, released December 2nd, 2022,
[00:02:26] starring David Harbour, Hopper himself from Stranger Things as Santa Claus.
[00:02:34] He had to get in pretty fantastic shape to be able to pull off some of the stuff he was doing
[00:02:41] in this movie. Oh, yeah. For sure.
[00:02:44] I mean, who doesn't love a badass Santa as an action hero?
[00:02:49] Mm-hmm.
[00:02:51] That's pretty, pretty wild. I remember I watched it when it first came out. I have not watched it
[00:02:57] since. Same. Yeah, that's kind of the same. I watched it back in 22, so two years ago.
[00:03:03] Yeah. I watched it after it was released, and I really enjoyed it. And then while we're trying
[00:03:07] to think of a movie to do for Christmas special this year, I'm like, that was a fun movie. It
[00:03:11] kind of fits. There's blood and guts. Let's do it. Yeah. Yeah. So that's what we did.
[00:03:18] We decided, and we followed through, and we're covering this one. It was a ton of fun to rewatch
[00:03:28] and we're covering this one. And we're covering this one. And we're covering this one. And we're
[00:03:30] going to be talking about it. I've got lots of thoughts. And yeah, the dialogue, the action scenes,
[00:03:40] how freaking amazing Leah Brady is. Yeah. I mean, those are just a few things that I have to talk about.
[00:03:48] But before we do that, we have to talk a little bit about the production. It was filmed in Winnipeg,
[00:03:55] Manitoba, Canada. The original screenplay was written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, and they are
[00:04:03] probably more well known for their work on the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise.
[00:04:10] Yes. Which, again, anytime those come up, I will always stand by them saying they are surprisingly
[00:04:16] very, very good. I saw them both in theaters. And by the time this is released, I think
[00:04:24] the third one is out. I think that dropped last weekend, this last weekend. So yeah,
[00:04:32] I don't know if I'm going to go to the theaters right away. But yeah, I think I'm going to have
[00:04:35] to go see Sonic 3 because they're very good. And I have no problem with going to the theaters to
[00:04:40] go see a Sonic movie because they've proven to be incredible. Well, a sequel is in the works for
[00:04:48] Violent Night. It got a little bit derailed because of the strikes that happened. But it seems to be
[00:04:55] back on track. So we should be getting a second one. I'm interested in that. Anytime Santa gets to be
[00:05:04] badass, I'm down. So we'll see what happens if it actually comes to fruition. There have been other
[00:05:12] sequels that we thought were coming that, you know, got lost in the shuffle somewhere.
[00:05:19] Budget for this one was $20 million. It grossed $76.6 million. It was 107 minutes long.
[00:05:26] Paik, give us that synopsis. Right. When an elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family
[00:05:32] compound on Christmas Eve, a disgruntled Santa Claus must take them out to save both the hostages
[00:05:38] and his holiday. Well, you know, breaks into a family compound, do they? Really? Yeah, and no.
[00:05:47] They were there already, most of them. Yeah. Scrooge had to do a little extra work to get in,
[00:05:54] I guess. He did. R.I.P. Al. That was sad. I liked him. He was super nice to Trudy. So yeah,
[00:06:04] that was kind of a bummer. But yeah, I'm excited to talk about this one. I think there are lots of
[00:06:11] little things that I loved. Yeah, for sure. So I'm excited to break this down. And I can't imagine
[00:06:18] who the main character is. Um, Bert. Bertrude. No. Bertrude. Ava, for sure. Um, no. No.
[00:06:29] No. No. Not at all. No. Santa himself, David Harbour, who is credited as the character
[00:06:41] of Santa Claus, who actually is... The character is not a mall Santa. This is like, supposed to be
[00:06:49] the real Santa Claus. What? Yeah. You have to believe, Peg. Come on.
[00:06:56] You gotta believe in that little bit of magic of Christmas that we have left.
[00:07:01] Still don't know how it works.
[00:07:06] It's interesting because I feel like his character from the start, you're getting this
[00:07:10] very cynical Santa.
[00:07:13] Yeah, he's been at this for a very long time. And he's fed up with the consumerism bullshit.
[00:07:20] Like... Yes.
[00:07:21] To where he's just getting trashed at a pub between shifts, as he calls it. There's that time
[00:07:25] kind of stuff between, like, the UK and then when he's got to do the American leg of the
[00:07:29] night. And so he's just like, ugh, can I get this over with? Um...
[00:07:34] Yeah, he's very jaded. He's been doing this long enough to just see how...
[00:07:41] Yeah, consumerism and people have just kind of grown greedy and selfish and not caring about
[00:07:49] the spirit of Christmas. And it's all about wanting more and more and moving on to the next
[00:07:53] cool thing. And he's just like, why am I even doing this anymore? Nobody actually cares about
[00:07:58] what this is supposed to be about.
[00:08:00] Yeah, I mean, the UK Santa that's sitting with him feels so bad for him that he pays for
[00:08:05] all of his drinks. And we know there were quite a few based on the vomit and the walking that
[00:08:14] he was doing to go to the sleigh. I mean, I'm not sure he should be driving the sleigh under
[00:08:19] those conditions.
[00:08:19] He stares a little bit. Raging handle most of it.
[00:08:22] Thank goodness, because who knows where they would have ended up.
[00:08:28] You figure out at the beginning, he passes this present to the bartender that's for her grandson,
[00:08:34] Mickey, and she doesn't even... She's just like, how does he know my grandson? Like, how does he know
[00:08:40] that he... What? She's just confused. Like, how she ended up with that present.
[00:08:50] I could have done without the vomit. I really could have.
[00:08:53] Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I was like, I don't need that. I'm good.
[00:08:57] Yeah.
[00:08:59] I mean, he basically is drinking his way across the land, leaving presents, vomit, and piss,
[00:09:06] as well as coal for the shitty people.
[00:09:10] Sounds like a fun night.
[00:09:11] Yeah.
[00:09:13] Chastising his reindeer for pooping on roofs and him stepping in it. It's like, if you weren't
[00:09:18] drunk, you might be able to watch where you're going.
[00:09:21] Mm-hmm. Just very unprofessional.
[00:09:24] He's really lost faith in humanity. This might be his last year, because he just seems like
[00:09:32] he's completely broken down by little junkies wanting the next big thing, a.k.a. kids.
[00:09:40] Mm-hmm.
[00:09:43] Yeah.
[00:09:44] Yeah.
[00:09:45] Yeah. And then, yeah, even we catch up with him going through his American shift of his
[00:09:51] work night, and he's still just having a real shitty time.
[00:09:53] Yeah.
[00:09:54] Just drinking his way again.
[00:09:55] I think, who's leaving out boxes of Nilla wafers for Santa? Those people need to go to
[00:10:01] jail.
[00:10:03] They certainly didn't put the love into the cookies that Trudy did.
[00:10:09] Mm-hmm.
[00:10:11] Because she really, you know, baked those with love to the point that when he ate them, he
[00:10:17] was very happy with those cookies.
[00:10:19] Yeah. Pocketed the rest of them for later. Yeah. It's like, the light stones might mostly
[00:10:22] suck, but they come through on cookies for Santa.
[00:10:25] They really do.
[00:10:26] Now, skim milk, on the other hand, that is an affront to mankind. Don't do that. But he
[00:10:32] can grab the liquor instead, so I guess he's okay.
[00:10:34] My gosh.
[00:10:36] Pairs well.
[00:10:38] Yeah. It was a, what? Dubois set? 1938? And Amelie, if you're listening, if I completely
[00:10:46] butchered that name, feel free to point that out to me. Maybe it's Dubois set? I don't
[00:10:53] know. That was my best effort.
[00:10:56] Not sure.
[00:10:57] Yeah. He went straight to the liquor cabinet. It was right there. Very easy for him to do
[00:11:03] that.
[00:11:04] Yep. Then he finds the massage chair or massage recliner there. He's going to take himself
[00:11:10] a little break, which is, yeah, where he winds up caught up in this criminal operation going
[00:11:15] on here at the house. And when the men, or at least one of the guys, finds him, his magic
[00:11:24] and his reindeer have abandoned him. And he's left on his own for a little bit, which is a
[00:11:29] good thing he is a certified grade A badass. So I think he's going to be okay.
[00:11:34] I think his power is fueled by people's belief in him.
[00:11:40] Yeah. Mm-hmm.
[00:11:41] And he was in a house where, well, there was Trudy, and she believed, and everyone else
[00:11:46] was a lost cause. And so he really didn't have any of his magical power because he didn't
[00:11:57] have enough belief in him. But he does take care of tinsel right away.
[00:12:02] Yeah. It didn't take long for the decorative death spike on the ground outside the window
[00:12:07] to come into play.
[00:12:09] Yeah. It's actually tinsel's gunfire that scares the reindeer away.
[00:12:13] Mm-hmm. Yeah.
[00:12:14] They're like, we're out of here. We are not going to be sticking around in this mess.
[00:12:18] Yeah. So like I said, yeah, death spike. We'll have a good Christmas death spike. I think
[00:12:23] more houses need to decorate with those. They're very nice. Yeah. So he winds up back outside
[00:12:29] and then he's going to just sneak away and that's it. But he happens to look through the
[00:12:33] window and see kind of what's going on. And the goodness that is still in Santa's heart
[00:12:37] will not let him leave Trudy behind.
[00:12:41] Nope.
[00:12:42] He's got to help her and her stupid family too, I guess. If they have to.
[00:12:49] Some of the family was good. Like they were, I mean, her mom and dad, they, they were going
[00:12:56] through a rough time. And I mean, Trudy doesn't want a lot. She just would like her parents
[00:13:01] to, to be with her again and be a family. But we'll talk a little bit about Trudy and her
[00:13:07] family a little bit later, but I loved this duo of Santa and Trudy. I thought that was so
[00:13:17] much fun to watch, but Santa's very resourceful.
[00:13:23] Yeah. Um, and he has to be, cause now he can't, he's been there long enough. He can't
[00:13:28] get away because yeah, the present that he left on the lawn has been found. And so now the
[00:13:33] mercenaries are hunting him down, which just leads to point after point of different fights
[00:13:41] going on and which the image, like the, the fight choreography and action in this movie is
[00:13:47] just phenomenal. So many great fight scenes and.
[00:13:50] Set to Christmas music.
[00:13:52] Yes. Which is.
[00:13:54] It shouldn't be as fun if you think about like, you're hearing the music and it's like, man,
[00:13:59] I never thought about, you know, it being a war zone, but.
[00:14:03] I had.
[00:14:04] Mamesita.
[00:14:05] Don't mess and take.
[00:14:06] I've had that in that, my head, the rest of the movie.
[00:14:11] Yeah.
[00:14:12] Don't mess and take.
[00:14:14] Yep.
[00:14:15] It's just.
[00:14:15] I really appreciated the way that they use the music for that because it made it fun.
[00:14:21] Yeah. And then I could make up my own also while, while watching some of those scenes.
[00:14:25] You better watch out.
[00:14:27] Better not cry.
[00:14:28] He's got a mad ball and you might just die.
[00:14:30] Santa Claus is wrecking your shit.
[00:14:34] Okay.
[00:14:35] Is that going to be on the Pay Callen Christmas album?
[00:14:38] Because I think it should be.
[00:14:39] Mm hmm.
[00:14:39] Coming out in 2087.
[00:14:41] Okay.
[00:14:43] Yeah.
[00:14:43] Because that's, that's when it's Frosty that he fights up there.
[00:14:49] Beating him with the mad ball for a while until that breaks.
[00:14:52] Frosty told Santa he was going to rip his balls off, but it was Santa that had those balls
[00:14:56] that he used really well.
[00:14:58] Mm hmm.
[00:14:59] And then he decided that it was time to break out more of the Christmas spirit and Frosty
[00:15:06] gets starstruck.
[00:15:07] He does.
[00:15:09] Mm hmm.
[00:15:10] Plugged in for good measure.
[00:15:11] Mm hmm.
[00:15:12] It was great.
[00:15:13] Yep.
[00:15:14] I star electrocution setting your head on fire.
[00:15:17] It's brutal.
[00:15:18] Way to go.
[00:15:19] Yep.
[00:15:20] What a way to go.
[00:15:21] But this is also how he ends up connecting with Trudy because he gets the radio and he's
[00:15:27] listening in and then he's fiddling with the channels and he finally gets to hear Trudy
[00:15:34] who's been kind of talking to him throughout the whole ordeal.
[00:15:38] Only he didn't hear her.
[00:15:40] Well, what do you know?
[00:15:40] The walkie, the direct line to Santa worked in need.
[00:15:45] In fact, it was real.
[00:15:48] Yeah, it's great.
[00:15:49] And then he's got some injuries that he's got to patch up.
[00:15:52] And then that's where you see him when he takes off his coat and then shirt.
[00:15:56] And you're like, oh, Santa's all tatted and scarred up.
[00:15:58] And you're like, what kind of past does jolly old Saint Nick have?
[00:16:03] And then as he passes out after he had to patch himself up, we get a little bit of flashbacks
[00:16:07] where, yeah, he was a Viking warrior raider who would just pillage and destroy and steal
[00:16:16] and murder.
[00:16:17] Not a good guy.
[00:16:18] He was very naughty list himself back in the day.
[00:16:22] There's no connection.
[00:16:23] Maybe in a sequel, as you mentioned, if that happens, we might get more backstory.
[00:16:26] I don't know if we need it.
[00:16:28] But-
[00:16:28] I don't.
[00:16:29] But it's part of it.
[00:16:29] It's like, what happened in his life to go from there to where he became Santa Claus?
[00:16:35] Like, what was-
[00:16:36] We're missing a big-
[00:16:37] That's a story that got yada yada yada'd, if you know what I mean.
[00:16:41] Like, you know that, like, where you skip over really important information?
[00:16:45] Like, well, he was murdering and pillaging and defiling and burning.
[00:16:49] And one thing led to another.
[00:16:51] And now he brings joy to children all over the world for hundreds of years.
[00:16:54] Wait, you missed some important information somewhere in the middle there.
[00:16:58] Absolutely.
[00:17:00] Like, he knew that Al was the one that worked in the entrance, like, to let people in.
[00:17:06] Because he's yelling to him and then he finds him dead.
[00:17:10] But I really liked that when he was talking to Scrooge, he's basically like, maybe you and I should discuss that in person.
[00:17:18] Santa Claus is coming to town.
[00:17:20] And there were a lot of fun little quotes in this movie that you couldn't help but be laughing through so much of it.
[00:17:32] It was much more brutal than Home Alone, but there were things that reminded me of the fun of Home Alone.
[00:17:39] Oh, yeah, for sure.
[00:17:39] At least at the time.
[00:17:41] Just a little more, yeah, a little more intense.
[00:17:43] Yes, a lot more blood.
[00:17:46] Of course, again, if Home Alone, especially the first two movies.
[00:17:52] I think Mythbusters did, like, a couple episodes about it.
[00:17:55] And then there's been other YouTube channels and stuff that have done, like, actual scientific experiments.
[00:17:59] It's like, if an actual human being went through the things that Kevin did to those webbans in those movies, he would be a murderer so many times over.
[00:18:08] Yes.
[00:18:08] He would have killed those two poor guys so many times.
[00:18:11] Yeah.
[00:18:12] They picked the wrong house.
[00:18:15] Yeah.
[00:18:17] You talk about the walkie-talkie, and yeah, Santa and Trudy's, like, you know, is he real conversation and, like, everything after that was actually, like, really touching.
[00:18:25] And they had a great conversation, and that bond begins there.
[00:18:28] I loved that.
[00:18:30] When they were talking about the bunny rabbit, it just, you just endeared to it because they were building that connection together.
[00:18:42] And he just knew everything.
[00:18:45] I love how he picked the right time to pull out names that he knew, like Jimmy, a.k.a. Scrooge.
[00:18:54] Yeah.
[00:18:55] And Bjorn and Kira.
[00:18:57] Like, he was making them kind of believe.
[00:19:01] They were just like, is he really Santa?
[00:19:05] I mean, how does he know that I wanted a bike?
[00:19:07] And, you know, all of those things.
[00:19:10] And I think that that helped a little bit because the belief in him just was heightened just a hair.
[00:19:18] Yeah.
[00:19:19] Any of that is going to help.
[00:19:20] But his connection with Trudy was just so genuine and sweet.
[00:19:28] And she wanted to do whatever she could to help him.
[00:19:32] Yeah.
[00:19:33] To where even a little bit later, yeah, she, you know, is hiding up in the attic there and talking to him.
[00:19:40] And that's, I mean, he gives her the full backstory that we talked about.
[00:19:44] Like, he's very honest about his history and where he came from.
[00:19:48] Skull Crusher.
[00:19:49] We skipped over a lot, but it's like that's his, like, biopic or, like, the biography of him from Skull Crusher to Rudolph, the story of Santa.
[00:20:01] But, yeah, but I like that Trudy kind of tells him, maybe you can use that particular set of skills to do some good, right?
[00:20:09] Like, save her and her family.
[00:20:11] So he's pulling presents out of his bag even before this conversation.
[00:20:16] He's looking for something that isn't a video game or a book that he can use as a weapon.
[00:20:21] Yeah.
[00:20:21] To be able to fight these guys.
[00:20:23] He's like, why did nobody ask for a bat or a club?
[00:20:26] Or, like...
[00:20:29] You know, and Trudy's just encouraging him to do good things.
[00:20:33] Yeah.
[00:20:34] And telling him that she believes in him because he gave her a best friend, which is the bunny.
[00:20:41] And he just wants her to stay safe, so he tells her to, you know, stay hidden.
[00:20:47] But she saw Home Alone not that long ago, and she really wants to set some traps in the house and attic where she is.
[00:20:58] Sure, kid.
[00:20:59] Go have fun with that.
[00:21:00] Just be quiet.
[00:21:01] Just be quiet.
[00:21:02] Yeah, and then Santa gets captured, and he's questioned.
[00:21:07] Jimmy, Bjorn, Kira aren't expecting him to know their names and things about them as kids, as you mentioned.
[00:21:14] And then Jimmy gives his supervillain cracked-out backstory about why he hates Christmas so much.
[00:21:20] And it's like, okay, dude, I'm sad that your family struggled and everything, but, like, you were still a thief and a murderer, and you still suck.
[00:21:27] So, like, no sympathy really for you.
[00:21:31] I don't know.
[00:21:33] Yeah, no.
[00:21:34] And then Trudy uses a little Christmas magic of her own to help Santa escape up the chimney, which Scrooge there is going to still try to explain away.
[00:21:43] He's not buying it, even if it's right in front of his face.
[00:21:47] Which leads to some really funny stuff between them, but yeah.
[00:21:50] Again, I think it was the belief in him grew, because Kira and Bjorn were questioning it and thinking he could be real.
[00:21:59] Plus, Trudy had kind of had her faith in Santa, like, reignited.
[00:22:05] Yeah.
[00:22:06] Because something happened earlier that kind of had her, you know, questioning things a little bit.
[00:22:12] So he was able to get away.
[00:22:15] Yeah.
[00:22:16] But, I mean, they've tortured him a little bit, and he's got to heal up.
[00:22:21] Yeah.
[00:22:22] Which he doesn't have time to do, because the kill squad shows up, and they are also not good.
[00:22:29] They're on the take, you know, whatever, for Scrooge.
[00:22:33] They're on that side, so then Santa quickly overrun and closed in by a whole new slew of naughty listers.
[00:22:40] And that leads into that place.
[00:22:41] Yeah, he's just kind of ready to give up all hope.
[00:22:44] But luckily, he still has Trudy.
[00:22:47] Yep.
[00:22:47] And a hammer.
[00:22:49] She says, give them their lumps.
[00:22:54] I love the conversation they had earlier, where they were just talking about ass, butthole, anus.
[00:23:01] Like, because he didn't want her to be, you know, calling it ass.
[00:23:06] He wanted her to be good.
[00:23:10] Because if she kept cursing, she'd wind up on the naughty list, and then he'd have to murder her.
[00:23:14] So, no.
[00:23:14] No.
[00:23:16] No.
[00:23:16] I don't think he would do that.
[00:23:18] But he knew she was a good kid, because his little scroll told him.
[00:23:23] She'd been a good girl, and so he wanted...
[00:23:27] He was trying to save her and her family.
[00:23:31] We'll talk about them in a little bit.
[00:23:33] Yeah.
[00:23:34] So, all these soldiers, the kill squad, come into the building that he's in, and these soldiers just need to stop.
[00:23:42] Hammer time.
[00:23:43] Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
[00:23:46] Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
[00:23:48] For sure.
[00:23:49] He's great with a hammer.
[00:23:50] Yeah, the hammer's great.
[00:23:51] He whips out a candy cane shank, which, band name, call it.
[00:23:57] Yeah, he's pretty much everything that he puts them through, and then the other mercenaries, once he gets out of there.
[00:24:04] It's like, yeah, you don't want to wind up on this Santa's naughty list.
[00:24:08] No.
[00:24:09] It's his extra naughty list.
[00:24:11] There's a certain level.
[00:24:12] It's like, with this Santa, it's like the good kids get presents in Christmas joy.
[00:24:18] The naughty list people get coal.
[00:24:21] And the extra naughty list get hammered to the face.
[00:24:24] Yep.
[00:24:26] And it doesn't feel good.
[00:24:31] I did love when he had finished up inside, like, the barn or the, whatever that extra room was, he puts the grenade in the guy's jacket and calls it a stocking stuffer.
[00:24:44] Yeah, that's a great one.
[00:24:45] That was great.
[00:24:46] He's like, starts running away, he goes, no, I have to watch.
[00:24:51] He's like, not a bad Santa.
[00:24:54] He's like, he has a heart, but he's not letting these people get away with what they were trying to do.
[00:25:00] Right.
[00:25:00] He's just not.
[00:25:02] No.
[00:25:03] Yeah.
[00:25:03] And through, you know, everybody kind of going outside, leaving Krampus behind, we'll talk about him.
[00:25:10] Oh my goodness.
[00:25:11] The names.
[00:25:12] To be dealt with.
[00:25:13] Of the people.
[00:25:15] I had to write them down.
[00:25:16] Oh yeah, I did too.
[00:25:17] They're ridiculous.
[00:25:18] The names of the accomplices in this little mess.
[00:25:24] Mm-hmm.
[00:25:24] Yeah.
[00:25:25] Yeah, it's great.
[00:25:26] But yeah, we see him kind of taking people out pretty easily.
[00:25:32] Like these elite soldiers.
[00:25:35] So the mercenaries don't stand a chance and it kind of just comes down to Commander Thorpe and Jimmy.
[00:25:41] Really the only ones left trying to take off with the money.
[00:25:46] Which I was like, just let him go.
[00:25:48] Santa doesn't care about money, but I guess it was like, eh.
[00:25:51] You got it.
[00:25:51] They have Gertrude, I guess.
[00:25:52] Do you have to go after her to save her?
[00:25:55] She still kind of sucks.
[00:25:56] Do we really need to?
[00:25:58] I guess.
[00:26:00] Yeah.
[00:26:04] She does shoot Thorpe in the head.
[00:26:06] So I mean.
[00:26:07] She does.
[00:26:08] We can celebrate that.
[00:26:10] Yeah.
[00:26:10] She.
[00:26:10] I think that was what we'll talk about more of the Lightstone family.
[00:26:15] But yeah, they all really suck in their own ways.
[00:26:19] Mostly.
[00:26:20] Not all of them.
[00:26:20] Trudy is just like a perfect little angel in the whole world.
[00:26:23] You know, and her parents really aren't that bad.
[00:26:25] Jason's made some choices.
[00:26:29] He has, but you know what?
[00:26:31] Through me, when his mom was reading the card in the alcohol that he bought her.
[00:26:39] I was just.
[00:26:40] I'm like, she's proud of him.
[00:26:42] Whatever's in that card.
[00:26:44] She's proud of him for whatever he was doing.
[00:26:47] Yeah, that's what she tells him.
[00:26:48] She was like, our whole.
[00:26:49] Like our family has built itself on screwing over people and taking what's yours.
[00:26:54] And so I'm proud of you because that's what you did to me.
[00:26:57] Yeah.
[00:26:57] She kept that card.
[00:26:59] Because I forgot a lot of this movie because I saw it two years ago.
[00:27:05] It wasn't on my mind.
[00:27:06] Like what was like, there were a lot of details that I didn't remember.
[00:27:12] Yeah.
[00:27:12] So it was almost like I was watching it again for the first time.
[00:27:15] We've covered so many movies since then.
[00:27:19] Yeah.
[00:27:20] But yeah, so as I said, a lot of the other family like really sucked.
[00:27:24] But I think they all went through a character journey over this movie that I think made them all better people, hopefully, in the long run.
[00:27:32] Yeah.
[00:27:32] I mean, Jason and Linda definitely like connected.
[00:27:34] Trudy's perfect anyway.
[00:27:37] But like I legit feel like Bert is going to be a much better kid after this.
[00:27:44] Ava, she's going to have some work to do, but I think she'll have some better stuff.
[00:27:47] And then Gertrude, again, it's up in the air.
[00:27:50] Who knows?
[00:27:50] She could just flip again and be like, okay, well, that's over and done with.
[00:27:52] Back to being greedy.
[00:27:53] But at least at the end of this movie, there seems to be like that, you know, heart that has kind of, they're like Grinches.
[00:28:02] All their hearts have grown three sizes that day.
[00:28:04] You know?
[00:28:05] Yes.
[00:28:06] Will it stick?
[00:28:07] Who knows?
[00:28:08] But there are a few that could stand to have their hearts grow even bigger because the sizes don't match up when you think about it.
[00:28:16] Right.
[00:28:16] But I think the theme of people believing in Santa and the magic, he gained power whenever people started to believe.
[00:28:31] Yeah.
[00:28:31] To the point that, yeah, Commander Thorpe shot him several times and killed him.
[00:28:35] He died.
[00:28:36] Yes.
[00:28:37] But it was this, the power of belief of all of the lightstones that were left there.
[00:28:43] Which I guess all the lightstones, no lightstones died.
[00:28:46] No.
[00:28:47] Just Morgan Steele.
[00:28:48] And who really cares about him?
[00:28:49] Nobody.
[00:28:50] Most ridiculous Christmas present ever, let's just say.
[00:28:54] Right.
[00:28:55] But yeah, so them working together in this power of belief was enough to bring him back.
[00:29:00] And I love this.
[00:29:00] Like, you were dead.
[00:29:01] He was like, Christmas magic.
[00:29:03] Still not really sure how it works.
[00:29:06] And that's okay.
[00:29:07] Which then I like, he's like, how do I ever repay you for saving us?
[00:29:10] I was like, well, you did bring me back from the dead, so I think we're even.
[00:29:15] I loved when he was facing off against Scrooge.
[00:29:18] And Scrooge thinks, he thinks he's got him down, like it's over.
[00:29:24] And he's like, the last Christmas.
[00:29:27] And Santa is just like, not if you still believe.
[00:29:30] And he touches his nose and pulls Scrooge up through the chimney, turning him into a pile of guts and blood and body.
[00:29:43] He forgot one thing.
[00:29:44] Chimney magic.
[00:29:47] Best kind of magic.
[00:29:51] Yeah.
[00:29:52] Again, Santa as an action star.
[00:29:54] It's great.
[00:29:56] And the ending is interesting.
[00:29:58] It's like, oh, so the reindeer went back to the North Pole.
[00:30:00] They get his backup sack.
[00:30:01] And Mrs. Claus sends Skull Crusher with them.
[00:30:04] It's a little too late for that.
[00:30:05] But it's a wonderful thought, I guess.
[00:30:07] Well, and he's chastising the reindeer for leaving him.
[00:30:11] But then he's, oh, you went to get my spare sack.
[00:30:15] Oh.
[00:30:16] And so he's happy after that.
[00:30:18] Yep.
[00:30:19] And then it's back to work.
[00:30:21] Yep.
[00:30:22] A little more Christmas spirit now, thanks to Trudy.
[00:30:26] Yeah, I think she believed enough for everyone at first.
[00:30:30] And then they all kind of came along.
[00:30:32] She made Santa believe in himself again.
[00:30:35] Yes.
[00:30:37] So good, this girl.
[00:30:39] Yeah, the actress is so amazing.
[00:30:42] I went and looked her up.
[00:30:44] Leah Brady, she actually was in four episodes of The Acolyte.
[00:30:48] Which I didn't watch The Acolyte, so.
[00:30:51] Yeah.
[00:30:52] I didn't really put it together.
[00:30:55] Because, yeah, she looks different.
[00:30:57] But now that you say that, and I'm piecing together, because I did watch that.
[00:31:00] Yeah, no, that was definitely her.
[00:31:01] Yeah, for sure.
[00:31:02] Yeah.
[00:31:03] She's great.
[00:31:03] I'm looking forward to seeing what she does, like, more.
[00:31:09] I feel like we picked these movies that have great child actors, so it's cool to see them when they start out and hope that they pop up in something else.
[00:31:17] Yeah.
[00:31:19] So I think I'm good on Santa there, so let's talk about, I have Trudy and her parents kind of all thrown into one.
[00:31:28] Yeah, let's talk about Trudy and her parents.
[00:31:30] I mean, what we learned at the beginning is that Jason and Linda are not together, basically.
[00:31:38] And Linda's coming on this little trip to see the family.
[00:31:43] So I'm not 100% sure how much his family knows about their problems.
[00:31:49] Probably not much.
[00:31:50] They seem to...
[00:31:51] Jason seems like he's been trying to distance himself from his family for a while, but...
[00:31:56] Yeah.
[00:31:57] Not enough to where, like, he's seeing the strain that, like, his family and his work and dedication that has put on them, where they're definitely not living in the same place.
[00:32:08] They're separated.
[00:32:08] No.
[00:32:10] Uh, so that's where all his plan comes from, is he's, like, finally choosing his wife and his daughter over the rest of his family.
[00:32:17] It seems like it might be too late.
[00:32:20] Yeah, before this, if this wouldn't have happened, yeah, I don't know if there ever would have been any reparations possible.
[00:32:27] But, uh, nothing like a bunch of murder to bring people back together in love.
[00:32:33] Hmm.
[00:32:34] I get it, because in-laws can be really...
[00:32:38] They can be something to deal with, for sure.
[00:32:41] You might...
[00:32:42] You get lucky sometimes, but...
[00:32:45] In-laws can test your patience.
[00:32:48] Mm-hmm.
[00:32:48] It's very...
[00:32:49] It's very, uh...
[00:32:51] Difficult.
[00:32:52] I've been very lucky.
[00:32:53] But...
[00:32:54] Yeah, it can be a challenge.
[00:32:57] Yeah.
[00:32:58] Uh, but yeah, we see, yeah, Christmas Eve at the mansion.
[00:33:03] They have, like, a whole party.
[00:33:04] It's, like, it's not even, like, a whole party.
[00:33:05] It's just the family, the immediate family.
[00:33:07] Yep.
[00:33:08] But they still have all this staff and catering and bartenders and all this stuff for, like, you know, six, seven people, eight people, whatever it was.
[00:33:15] It's like...
[00:33:17] Okay.
[00:33:17] Uh, yeah, so we kind of see the family is just, you know, super wealthy and mostly super awful.
[00:33:23] Uh, you know, Edie Patterson being peak Edie Patterson as Ava.
[00:33:30] I love her so much.
[00:33:31] She does it so well.
[00:33:33] She plays a very similar character in, like, everything she does.
[00:33:36] She's very good at that.
[00:33:38] Just, like, awful human being character.
[00:33:41] Um, she's incredible in The Righteous Gemstones.
[00:33:44] Yes.
[00:33:45] I was gonna say that.
[00:33:46] Oh, my God.
[00:33:47] She's so good.
[00:33:48] When I saw that she was in this, because I forgot she was in it.
[00:33:52] Yep.
[00:33:52] All I could think is she's just playing the same character.
[00:33:55] It's Judy Gemstone.
[00:33:56] It is.
[00:33:57] Yeah.
[00:33:58] It's like, this is great.
[00:34:00] But she does such a great job.
[00:34:02] Why would you not want to cast her in that role?
[00:34:06] Because she's so believable.
[00:34:08] So she did, uh, she did recently a little arc on the latest season of Resident Alien that was not...
[00:34:15] It was a toned down version of her character, but that attitude was still there.
[00:34:19] And it's so good.
[00:34:20] You can't help it.
[00:34:22] Yeah.
[00:34:23] She's just...
[00:34:24] And you know what?
[00:34:25] She was also in Vice Principles.
[00:34:27] And I think that, um, Danny McBride is also in that.
[00:34:35] And Danny McBride is also in The Righteous Gemstones.
[00:34:39] So, yeah.
[00:34:40] It's all, like, connected, it feels like, in some weird HBO way.
[00:34:45] Yep.
[00:34:46] Uh, but yeah, so, as terrible as they kind of seem, um, Trudy is such as, like, a wonderful,
[00:34:54] sweet kid.
[00:34:54] A true heart of gold.
[00:34:57] Oh, yeah.
[00:34:58] Spelled that T-R-U as Al the Gate Man was calling her.
[00:35:03] Um, and I do like, though, that she mentions, oh, I didn't get to go to the mall with Daddy
[00:35:08] and I didn't get to talk to Santa.
[00:35:10] And Jason is a good father.
[00:35:12] Like, you can see him thinking on his feet really quick and he comes up with this idea
[00:35:16] of the magic walkie-talkie that lets her talk to Santa because she didn't get to see
[00:35:21] him.
[00:35:21] And then as they give her that and they hear her talking to Santa in that really touching
[00:35:26] moment where they're listening in, like, oh, you know, what's she gonna say?
[00:35:30] And all she can ask for is that she just wants her parents to be together again.
[00:35:33] And it's, which then leads Jason to talk to Linda and be like, I've got a plan.
[00:35:40] We're gonna do this.
[00:35:42] Which, you know, he's got this plan to get out from under his family, be independent.
[00:35:47] But that plan is interrupted by a very violent night.
[00:35:51] Yes.
[00:35:53] As the title would suggest.
[00:35:54] And Scrooge sings his own version of that song at one point.
[00:35:59] Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:00] I don't think I'll be buying the John Leguizamo Christmas album anytime soon.
[00:36:03] No, no.
[00:36:06] No, definitely not.
[00:36:09] Not doing it.
[00:36:12] But yeah.
[00:36:13] And then with Scrooge and the mercenaries questioning things they're after, Santa has now derailed
[00:36:21] their plans.
[00:36:21] They keep calling him a gopher that's messed everything up.
[00:36:26] And then they realize, you know, and then Trudy says that she's been talking to Santa and
[00:36:30] he's gonna come in and beat him up.
[00:36:33] And so that's what the question is.
[00:36:34] Who have you been talking to?
[00:36:35] It's like, it's really Santa.
[00:36:36] And they're like, no, she's playing pretend.
[00:36:38] She's not.
[00:36:38] And she's very dead set up.
[00:36:40] No, I was talking to, which leads Jason to have to like, try to cut that down by then
[00:36:48] telling her the bad news that no parent wants to tell their kids until it's time.
[00:36:52] And this was a terrible and devastating time and way to tell that Santa isn't real.
[00:36:59] It was a bad time to find that out for Trudy and for Morgan, apparently as well.
[00:37:03] Yeah.
[00:37:04] Not sure how Morgan didn't know that Santa wasn't real, at least.
[00:37:10] Or, I mean, in this, the realm of this world, he's real.
[00:37:15] But I, you know, he seemed very surprised.
[00:37:18] Yeah.
[00:37:19] Well, that doesn't really surprise me.
[00:37:21] No.
[00:37:21] Not the brightest.
[00:37:23] No, definitely not.
[00:37:24] You don't give your mother-in-law or, I mean, I don't even think they were married.
[00:37:29] Were they married?
[00:37:30] I don't know.
[00:37:31] It wasn't really.
[00:37:33] It wasn't really explained.
[00:37:36] But I'm going to look it up.
[00:37:38] Yeah.
[00:37:39] It doesn't say.
[00:37:40] I mean, he was not Bert's father.
[00:37:43] Yeah.
[00:37:43] It's her boyfriend.
[00:37:44] Yeah.
[00:37:44] Um, why do you want to give your potential mother-in-law a pitch deck for your next film?
[00:37:54] Because he's an idiot.
[00:37:56] That's why.
[00:37:57] Uh, also later, Jason's giving a speech and his fingers are just fine and dandy.
[00:38:01] So I guess the whole nutcracker thing that happened earlier just never happened.
[00:38:04] We're going to forget about it.
[00:38:05] Uh, yeah.
[00:38:06] But, you know, with, when they decided to use the Lodger nutcracker to crack a nut, I cringed
[00:38:16] for Jason at the thought of it.
[00:38:19] Yeah.
[00:38:21] Yeah.
[00:38:21] Because that was, like, but apparently it was, like, did they, like, at first I was like,
[00:38:25] well, bye-bye an entire finger.
[00:38:27] But then later we see him and I was like, nope, he's fine.
[00:38:29] All ten are still there.
[00:38:31] Just.
[00:38:31] Yeah.
[00:38:32] As fine as they ever were.
[00:38:34] Yeah.
[00:38:34] It's kind of weird.
[00:38:36] Continuity era.
[00:38:36] Yeah.
[00:38:37] I was like, I guess they forgot about that part.
[00:38:39] Um.
[00:38:40] Yeah.
[00:38:40] Yeah.
[00:38:41] But then, you know, uh, like I said, the kill squad comes in and we find out they're
[00:38:45] on the bad side.
[00:38:47] They can get into the vault.
[00:38:48] And that's then where we learn Jason's plan he was talking about earlier.
[00:38:52] He stole the money from the vault or intercepted it before it got there.
[00:38:56] And that was what it was in his note to his mom.
[00:38:59] Uh, he was going to take all of it.
[00:39:02] And I mean, again, it was stolen from the U.S.
[00:39:04] Government.
[00:39:04] So she can't do anything about it.
[00:39:06] She can't claim that he stole it.
[00:39:07] She's not supposed to have it.
[00:39:10] He was going to run away and his family was just never going to come back.
[00:39:14] Yeah.
[00:39:14] He's just going to be free and be with his wife and daughter and start a whole new life
[00:39:18] out from under the thumb, as he says.
[00:39:21] But unfortunately, yeah, this grand plan happened right at the same time that a group of killer
[00:39:26] mercenaries looking for the money were coming to town.
[00:39:31] Yeah.
[00:39:32] So.
[00:39:34] Just bad timing.
[00:39:36] What are you going to do?
[00:39:37] Yeah.
[00:39:38] Uh, we talked about Trudy's, yeah, going full on Kevin McAllister.
[00:39:42] Uh, she did love that movie.
[00:39:45] Uh.
[00:39:46] It was great.
[00:39:47] Bjorn and Kira made wonderful wet bandits.
[00:39:51] They did.
[00:39:52] Uh-huh.
[00:39:53] Especially Bjorn.
[00:39:56] He thought he was going to step on the nail.
[00:40:00] But she had other things planned for that.
[00:40:03] Yeah.
[00:40:03] So they were picture perfect wet bandits.
[00:40:05] They really nailed it.
[00:40:07] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:08] It was a ball.
[00:40:09] Nearly bowled me over laughing.
[00:40:11] It was a scene worth sticking around for.
[00:40:14] It was easy to get.
[00:40:15] It was not a head scratcher at all.
[00:40:17] It was real enlightening.
[00:40:18] Worth the wait.
[00:40:20] Honestly.
[00:40:21] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:22] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:23] Yeah.
[00:40:25] You're proud of yourself, aren't you?
[00:40:27] Always.
[00:40:28] Yeah.
[00:40:30] That was good.
[00:40:38] Uh, and then Krampus downstairs is ready for a murder.
[00:40:40] Uh, and he got one.
[00:40:43] His own.
[00:40:45] At the hands of two pissed off women and an annoying child.
[00:40:48] Uh.
[00:40:48] Yes.
[00:40:49] I loved that, though.
[00:40:50] I thought it was great.
[00:40:51] Yeah.
[00:40:52] At that point, I was like, well, maybe Ava and Bert aren't completely useless.
[00:40:55] Okay, cool.
[00:40:56] Good for them.
[00:40:57] They took care of that situation.
[00:40:59] I loved it.
[00:41:00] Them.
[00:41:01] They were all beating on him with pokers.
[00:41:03] Yeah.
[00:41:03] It was amazing.
[00:41:05] Because he was way too ready to kill one of them.
[00:41:08] Yeah.
[00:41:09] Yeah.
[00:41:09] But what led to that is this whole, like, them just throwing each other under the bus.
[00:41:13] Shoot her first, the gold-digging bitch.
[00:41:15] It's like, no, shoot off the alcoholic bitch.
[00:41:17] And then it's like, shoot him.
[00:41:18] He's annoying.
[00:41:19] Like, don't call my son a little shit.
[00:41:22] Shoot her!
[00:41:22] Yeah, it's great.
[00:41:23] So it just went in circles.
[00:41:25] And so he was confused at that point.
[00:41:27] And so they took him out.
[00:41:30] Yeah, it was great.
[00:41:31] Uh, and then the rest of everybody's outside, because the money was hidden in the nativity.
[00:41:36] And now that it has been found, Scrooge decides, well, I don't need the lightstones anymore, so we're gonna have them all killed.
[00:41:41] Unless a certain Father Christmas has something to say about it.
[00:41:45] Or they can fight back on their own, because go, Linda, with a gun.
[00:41:49] Oh my goodness.
[00:41:50] Yeah, she was great.
[00:41:53] And they were, yeah, they were having guns and using those for a little bit until they couldn't use those anymore.
[00:41:58] And then have to make do with other things.
[00:42:02] Holy weapon, so tender and mild.
[00:42:04] Yes.
[00:42:06] Which, not as effective as an icicle.
[00:42:08] But.
[00:42:09] No, but.
[00:42:10] It's all good thinking.
[00:42:11] It will give you a good headache.
[00:42:13] Mm-hmm.
[00:42:13] I think.
[00:42:14] Yeah.
[00:42:14] And just look at Jason and Linda.
[00:42:16] Making, you know, with teamwork, making the dream work.
[00:42:18] That's what they're doing.
[00:42:19] Yep.
[00:42:20] It's great.
[00:42:21] And then, Trudy gets to witness her Christmas miracle.
[00:42:25] Her parents kissing.
[00:42:27] Yeah.
[00:42:28] And I like that.
[00:42:28] She's so happy.
[00:42:29] And he was taking the money for them.
[00:42:32] But also, like, we can see that, like, the greedy side of the family isn't in him as much.
[00:42:37] Because, yeah, Jason and Linda were going to just burning stacks of money to try to save Santa, like, without a second of hesitation.
[00:42:44] Much to Ava's dismay.
[00:42:45] Of course, what are you doing?
[00:42:46] Why would you do that?
[00:42:47] It's like, he's already pretty much dead.
[00:42:49] It's fine.
[00:42:49] Just.
[00:42:50] We just burned half a million dollars.
[00:42:53] Oh, my goodness.
[00:42:55] Man.
[00:42:56] But Santa needs to live, or the Christmas spirit will die.
[00:43:01] Yeah.
[00:43:02] We don't want that.
[00:43:03] Christmas dies tonight.
[00:43:04] Unless you still believe.
[00:43:08] Yeah.
[00:43:08] I'll see if I had any other little notes about just other Lightstone stuff real quick.
[00:43:12] Like, yeah, again, just when we first meet him again as Ava, she says, like, she's feeling like the family torch may be passing.
[00:43:21] And so she's going to be in extra suck-up mode with Morgan and her son, Bert Trude.
[00:43:28] Yes, because Trudy's full name is Gertrude.
[00:43:32] Yes.
[00:43:33] And she got to be named after her grandmother, although they called her Trudy.
[00:43:39] Gertrude wasn't really happy with that.
[00:43:41] She said it sounds like a prostitute.
[00:43:45] Yeah.
[00:43:46] So she wasn't happy.
[00:43:47] Ava also named her child after her mother.
[00:43:50] Yes.
[00:43:50] Bert Trude.
[00:43:52] Because not everybody can be so lucky to have a girl.
[00:43:55] Yeah.
[00:43:55] I'm right here.
[00:43:57] Yeah.
[00:43:58] I can hear you.
[00:43:59] There was one point where Bert was annoying his grandmother to the point that Gertrude said, when he was small, I begged you to beat him.
[00:44:08] Mm-hmm.
[00:44:09] So, meaning, yeah, he was driving her crazy.
[00:44:13] Right.
[00:44:13] Yeah.
[00:44:13] Gertrude was quite the character.
[00:44:15] Even, like, the first time we see her, she's on the phone and she's making sure to only walk into the room while saying the most vulgar things possible and then walk back out.
[00:44:24] Beverly D'Angelo.
[00:44:25] I mean, come on.
[00:44:27] She is so great.
[00:44:29] And then Ava and Morgan are just morons and I loved it.
[00:44:33] Like, the whole, like, why are you sitting back there?
[00:44:35] It's like, really?
[00:44:36] Because we don't care.
[00:44:37] No, you're up to something.
[00:44:38] There's a reason you're sitting back there.
[00:44:40] We're going to go back further than you.
[00:44:42] We're going to outdo whatever you're trying to do.
[00:44:44] It's like, there's no, you're just so stupid.
[00:44:47] You're just so stupid.
[00:44:49] It's a sibling dynamic thing where one has to try to outdo the other and because one's a woman and one's a man, it makes it even crazier.
[00:44:58] Yeah.
[00:45:00] Jean-Claude Van Dipshit just ditched us.
[00:45:03] That was brilliant.
[00:45:04] I love that.
[00:45:07] I mean, he did get the jump on Krampus.
[00:45:09] He leapt out the window.
[00:45:10] Like, he was an idiot, but I guess he at least was a good action star.
[00:45:14] He was good at what he did.
[00:45:16] Until the Kill Squad took him out.
[00:45:19] I mean, he gave them all the information that they needed to know.
[00:45:23] The problem is he told the people that already knew what was going on in the house and didn't really need to be updated.
[00:45:30] Yeah.
[00:45:32] There's a point where I have a note here that says,
[00:45:34] Did Bert just make what may likely be his first ever good and intelligent point?
[00:45:39] Because there's a point where Scrooge is holding a gun and looking at him.
[00:45:43] He goes, You guys are making me so mad.
[00:45:44] He's like, To the point where I just want to start shooting someone at random.
[00:45:48] And Bert just like, Hey, excuse me.
[00:45:50] He goes, But what if the person you randomly shoot is the one who knows where it is?
[00:45:53] Yes.
[00:45:54] And he's like, Fuck you all.
[00:45:56] I was like, I think Bert just made sense for the first time in his life.
[00:46:00] His two brain cells finally rubbed together in the right way.
[00:46:04] Yeah, the light bulb went off in his head.
[00:46:07] The cobwebs shook a little bit like they might get cleaned out.
[00:46:13] But yeah, Bert was fun.
[00:46:15] He was annoying as hell, but also had some fun moments.
[00:46:19] There is a mid-credits scene.
[00:46:21] Oh my gosh, it was so funny.
[00:46:23] Real quick, because it's Bert doing his stupid live streaming on his phone thing.
[00:46:27] It's the Bert locker.
[00:46:30] Live streaming with one of the dead Kill Squad soldiers.
[00:46:33] This guy, dead as hell.
[00:46:35] Santa's real.
[00:46:36] Don't end up on the naughty list.
[00:46:37] Bert out.
[00:46:38] I'm like, Okay.
[00:46:42] I mean, he's vlogging the entire, like,
[00:46:47] we see him vlogging earlier in the night.
[00:46:49] And so, this is just another video for his 12 viewers to see.
[00:46:55] I mean, very well, he may not even really be vlogging.
[00:46:59] It could be like the Creed Batten Word Document blog thing.
[00:47:04] What's your vlog called?
[00:47:06] It's like, what are you doing, Bert?
[00:47:07] Oh, it's Bert's thoughts.
[00:47:08] It's Bert's thoughts.
[00:47:09] That's what we're doing.
[00:47:13] Creed thoughts was a real, they made a real website out of it.
[00:47:16] Yeah.
[00:47:16] I don't know if it's still up.
[00:47:17] It might be, but I know they did and it was running.
[00:47:19] It's great.
[00:47:21] I always go back to that.
[00:47:23] Well, when you first start out with a podcast or a vlog or a blog,
[00:47:28] you're, I mean, it takes a little bit for it to take off.
[00:47:33] And so, anytime I see something like this,
[00:47:35] like him doing his little vlog in this movie,
[00:47:38] all I can think is he probably has 12 viewers.
[00:47:40] And he's going to do everything he can for him.
[00:47:42] Yep, he is.
[00:47:43] Got to give him the content.
[00:47:45] Yeah.
[00:47:48] So, yeah.
[00:47:49] The only section I have left in my notes is the bad guys,
[00:47:53] the naughty listers, Scrooge and his mercenary team,
[00:47:56] the kill squad.
[00:47:58] You see them pretty early on in the movie,
[00:48:00] like while they're showing the party getting set up,
[00:48:02] you see all of them moving around into position,
[00:48:05] casing the place a little bit,
[00:48:06] making sure everything's ready to go.
[00:48:10] So, you mentioned Al, the gate guard,
[00:48:11] which honestly him being killed by Scrooge was devastating.
[00:48:15] He seemed like a really super good dude.
[00:48:16] Yeah.
[00:48:16] Like that one was actually really sad.
[00:48:18] I'm like, that guy was nice.
[00:48:20] It was good.
[00:48:20] Yeah.
[00:48:22] And, yeah, they kick it off.
[00:48:24] They're like, shut down the internet,
[00:48:25] take out the security guys,
[00:48:28] start shooting through the house,
[00:48:30] start the show.
[00:48:31] And then they all have their holiday code names that they're going.
[00:48:36] Yeah.
[00:48:36] Scrooge, gingerbread,
[00:48:38] Krampus,
[00:48:39] ready to fuck shit up,
[00:48:41] candy cane,
[00:48:41] frosty,
[00:48:42] tinsel,
[00:48:42] jingle,
[00:48:43] peppermint,
[00:48:43] sugar plum.
[00:48:45] I mean,
[00:48:46] I guess it's a creative way of coming up with code names,
[00:48:49] but we all know Scrooge is Jimmy.
[00:48:51] Thank you,
[00:48:52] Santa.
[00:48:53] Mm-hmm.
[00:48:54] Yeah.
[00:48:54] John Leguizamo is great.
[00:48:56] He's always really awesome.
[00:48:57] Bah humbug motherfucker.
[00:49:00] I love John Leguizamo.
[00:49:01] He's great.
[00:49:02] We have to cover land of the dead because his character in land of the dead
[00:49:06] is,
[00:49:08] is kind of fun.
[00:49:09] So I think we definitely need to cover that at some point.
[00:49:13] Mm-hmm.
[00:49:14] Yeah.
[00:49:15] We see that he's done his homework on the light stones.
[00:49:17] He knows about 300 mil in the vault to go with stolen government money.
[00:49:21] That's what he's there after all the precautions he's taken.
[00:49:24] He knows all their schedule,
[00:49:25] all this.
[00:49:26] And even when she's like,
[00:49:26] well,
[00:49:27] I've got this elite team.
[00:49:27] It was like,
[00:49:28] oh yeah,
[00:49:28] the kill squad.
[00:49:29] And when he says,
[00:49:30] like,
[00:49:30] I know all of their information,
[00:49:31] it's like that first it sounds like a bluff,
[00:49:34] but it's like,
[00:49:34] no,
[00:49:35] because he legitimately has gone into business with them and he's working with
[00:49:38] them.
[00:49:38] And we see that,
[00:49:39] that twist later.
[00:49:41] Well,
[00:49:42] being greedy and not paying your staff well does not help them want to
[00:49:46] support you.
[00:49:47] Right.
[00:49:47] And it makes them honestly available to the highest bidder.
[00:49:51] Mm-hmm.
[00:49:51] And Scrooge was the highest,
[00:49:53] you know,
[00:49:54] the highest bidder.
[00:49:56] Yeah.
[00:49:58] Yeah.
[00:49:58] Then there was the nutcracker scene,
[00:50:00] which I guess they forgot that they put in the movie again,
[00:50:03] as I mentioned,
[00:50:05] because he seems fine later,
[00:50:06] but,
[00:50:06] but it does show Krampus is a psycho.
[00:50:09] Cause he was more than happy to help with the,
[00:50:11] the next part of that.
[00:50:14] Those were decorative nutcrackers.
[00:50:16] Anyway,
[00:50:17] they weren't like real ones.
[00:50:18] They were just the decorative ones.
[00:50:20] So might not be as bad as it would be.
[00:50:24] I don't know.
[00:50:24] Maybe they were real.
[00:50:25] Who knows?
[00:50:25] I don't think so.
[00:50:27] I mean,
[00:50:27] I have some decorative nutcrackers that look very similar.
[00:50:31] Yeah.
[00:50:32] But listen,
[00:50:32] Krampus was the nut job.
[00:50:34] Yes.
[00:50:35] Toying with,
[00:50:36] with all of his hostages,
[00:50:38] having them open presents.
[00:50:39] And it's all just as I want to see you rich assholes get each other.
[00:50:42] Like,
[00:50:42] he's just giddy.
[00:50:43] Like before I kill all of you,
[00:50:44] let's have some fun with it.
[00:50:46] And then we get the presents from Ava and Morgan.
[00:50:50] And they're still idiots.
[00:50:53] And then we get,
[00:50:53] yeah,
[00:50:54] that's when,
[00:50:54] as we talked about,
[00:50:55] we get Gertrude's reaction to the note.
[00:50:59] Okay,
[00:51:00] Jason,
[00:51:00] you know,
[00:51:01] and they're like,
[00:51:01] what did he write?
[00:51:02] And it's like,
[00:51:02] well,
[00:51:02] that's between us.
[00:51:03] I'm not holding on to that.
[00:51:05] But her expression,
[00:51:06] you could tell there was,
[00:51:08] it wasn't like she was upset.
[00:51:10] It was like,
[00:51:11] she was proud of him.
[00:51:13] To me,
[00:51:16] I wanted to point out Brendan Fletcher.
[00:51:19] He played Krampus and he has been in a couple of movies,
[00:51:25] Rampage and the sequels that come out after Rampage.
[00:51:28] There's like a couple of them.
[00:51:30] He's,
[00:51:32] well,
[00:51:33] he goes on a Rampage,
[00:51:34] let's just say.
[00:51:35] It's not good.
[00:51:37] All I'm thinking of with Rampage is the Dwayne Johnson movie.
[00:51:41] And that's not what we're talking about.
[00:51:42] Because I was like,
[00:51:42] there was no sequels to that.
[00:51:43] So I don't know what you're talking about.
[00:51:45] No,
[00:51:45] it's,
[00:51:46] it's another,
[00:51:47] yeah,
[00:51:47] it's more of an independent film about a guy that gets a gun and goes
[00:51:52] shooting up in a community.
[00:51:54] And then there are the sequels that go with it.
[00:51:57] So this,
[00:51:58] after I've already seen those,
[00:52:00] it's just kind of like,
[00:52:01] yeah,
[00:52:02] okay.
[00:52:02] Yeah,
[00:52:02] I can,
[00:52:03] I can do it.
[00:52:04] Like Edie Patterson.
[00:52:05] He's playing a type,
[00:52:06] I guess.
[00:52:07] Yeah.
[00:52:08] I mean here,
[00:52:08] he's not above punching a child right in the jaw,
[00:52:11] so he'll do what he has to do.
[00:52:12] I mean,
[00:52:14] a lot of people probably wanted to punch him at that point.
[00:52:16] It's like out of all the children you could punch.
[00:52:18] I mean,
[00:52:19] I guess Bert is one of the more punchable ones.
[00:52:22] I guess.
[00:52:23] Yeah.
[00:52:25] But yeah,
[00:52:26] there's some great moments.
[00:52:28] Again,
[00:52:29] after Santa goes up the sleigh and we have that Jimmy,
[00:52:31] Bjorn and Kira moment,
[00:52:33] and you get over the walkie,
[00:52:35] you know,
[00:52:35] incoming,
[00:52:36] we got sleigh bells approaching and Bjorn's,
[00:52:38] oh my God,
[00:52:38] it's his reindeer.
[00:52:40] It's the extraction team.
[00:52:42] Pull yourselves together.
[00:52:44] But it's because they were believing.
[00:52:48] All it takes is a little bit to make you start to question.
[00:52:52] Yep.
[00:52:52] Then they get the vault open and say,
[00:52:54] well,
[00:52:54] commander,
[00:52:54] you did literally just say you didn't mind as a kid when the presents were empty.
[00:52:58] So just remember that feeling now because this vault is empty.
[00:53:01] Yep.
[00:53:03] Well,
[00:53:03] and Scrooge was always longing for the old days when you just poked holes in a vault and it opened up.
[00:53:08] This one took a lot of technological assistance because it was very high tech.
[00:53:16] Yeah.
[00:53:16] We talked about the home alone section.
[00:53:18] It looks like a not so hidden booby trap worked quite well.
[00:53:21] Actually,
[00:53:21] Bjorn,
[00:53:22] who's the moron now?
[00:53:23] Yep.
[00:53:24] Also fucking ouch.
[00:53:25] Nail through the bottom jaw does not sound fun.
[00:53:29] Or look fun.
[00:53:30] Man.
[00:53:32] And the bowling balls.
[00:53:33] I love the bowling balls.
[00:53:35] That was great.
[00:53:37] If you're wondering what the official transgressions of one Jimmy Martinez are to make him such a naughty lister,
[00:53:43] I paused it at the right moment to read his entire scroll.
[00:53:48] And the naughty list reasonings for Jimmy Martinez.
[00:53:52] Killed his best friend.
[00:53:54] Spreads misery.
[00:53:55] Thief.
[00:53:56] Broke his mother's heart.
[00:53:57] Murderer.
[00:53:58] Greedy.
[00:53:59] Hates Christmas.
[00:54:00] Selfish.
[00:54:01] And I don't know,
[00:54:02] maybe the worst transgression of them all.
[00:54:03] Income tax fraud.
[00:54:06] Oh my goodness.
[00:54:12] Yes.
[00:54:12] After that,
[00:54:13] that's where,
[00:54:13] yes,
[00:54:14] Santa gets his power back.
[00:54:16] Because Jimmy believes.
[00:54:17] He still hates him.
[00:54:18] He's still going to try to kill him.
[00:54:19] But he believes.
[00:54:21] Jimmy gets his big final showdown.
[00:54:23] It's him versus the literal personification of Christmas joy.
[00:54:26] And that,
[00:54:26] what more does he want to end and kill than that?
[00:54:29] He wants it to end.
[00:54:30] He wants this to be the last Christmas.
[00:54:32] He wants it to be over.
[00:54:34] You know?
[00:54:34] He's like,
[00:54:35] Christmas dies tonight.
[00:54:37] You know?
[00:54:37] Never forget about chimney magic.
[00:54:39] Nope.
[00:54:39] That was what he did him in.
[00:54:42] But then,
[00:54:42] yeah,
[00:54:42] Commander Thorpe shows up and shoots Santa a few times.
[00:54:45] Not good.
[00:54:46] But then Gertrude shows up and kills him.
[00:54:48] So not,
[00:54:49] not good.
[00:54:50] Right.
[00:54:52] Yeah.
[00:54:52] She was a little late.
[00:54:53] I wish she'd come just,
[00:54:54] you know,
[00:54:55] a minute or two earlier.
[00:54:56] It might have helped.
[00:54:57] But in the end,
[00:54:59] it was the magic of Christmas that saved Santa and the belief in Santa that fueled the magic of Christmas.
[00:55:06] Indeed.
[00:55:08] I did want to tell you that I was reading a bunch of different articles.
[00:55:15] And one of the things I read was that Morgan Steele,
[00:55:19] that character was based on Mark Wahlberg.
[00:55:21] That's funny.
[00:55:23] What?
[00:55:26] I knew you were going to do that.
[00:55:28] I could totally see it.
[00:55:30] I could totally see it.
[00:55:33] Yeah.
[00:55:34] Is that it?
[00:55:35] That's all you got?
[00:55:36] Because it's all I got.
[00:55:39] The last thing I want to bring up is Santa,
[00:55:45] I think when he's in the shed,
[00:55:49] the barn,
[00:55:50] whatever,
[00:55:51] talking to Trudy,
[00:55:52] he's trying to figure out,
[00:55:53] you know,
[00:55:54] what he's feeling.
[00:55:58] Like,
[00:55:59] he's just not sure,
[00:56:00] like,
[00:56:01] what to do.
[00:56:02] And Trudy's just asked him what his wish would be if he could wish for something.
[00:56:07] And his wish was to see Mrs.
[00:56:09] Claus again.
[00:56:10] And his wedding ring falls off his finger or he's playing with it and it rolls,
[00:56:15] it falls,
[00:56:16] and it rolls over to the sledgehammer.
[00:56:19] Yeah.
[00:56:19] And I feel like that was the sign that he needed to be able to get back in the fight.
[00:56:27] Christmas magic.
[00:56:28] We all know how it works.
[00:56:29] Yep.
[00:56:31] So I feel like we did it.
[00:56:33] All right.
[00:56:34] Awesome.
[00:56:34] Yeah,
[00:56:34] that was a fun one for sure.
[00:56:37] Oh my goodness.
[00:56:38] There goes the feedback phone.
[00:56:40] Perfect timing.
[00:56:43] So I'll have to get that and see what people had to say.
[00:56:48] All right.
[00:56:49] We do have a little bit of feedback this week for our Christmas special.
[00:56:52] I'm excited about that.
[00:56:53] A few messages here,
[00:56:56] which awesome.
[00:56:57] Glad to see them.
[00:56:58] Glad to read them.
[00:56:59] We will.
[00:57:00] Going to go ahead and start with this first one from Laura.
[00:57:02] It says,
[00:57:02] It's an okay movie.
[00:57:04] Gratuitous violence isn't my thing,
[00:57:05] but I watched because I like David Harbour.
[00:57:07] He was great in it.
[00:57:09] The ending was good too.
[00:57:10] Santa emoji.
[00:57:12] Yay!
[00:57:13] Well,
[00:57:14] Catherine comes up with our next one.
[00:57:16] Merry Christmas,
[00:57:17] Catherine.
[00:57:18] Merry Christmas.
[00:57:19] David Harbour pairs up with another badass little girl.
[00:57:23] I loved all the codenames and incorrectly predicted that Tinsel would be one of the last mercenaries standing.
[00:57:30] Kranbus was way too quick volunteering to use that nutcracker.
[00:57:35] I thought there was a chance Gingerbread would switch sides after his Santa encounter,
[00:57:39] but the realistic Home Alone booby trap said otherwise.
[00:57:44] Santa versus Scrooge,
[00:57:46] a fight I never knew I needed to see.
[00:57:48] Who knew fireplaces were so lethal?
[00:57:51] And of course,
[00:57:52] Santa has the best reindeer ever.
[00:57:56] And the last one here comes from our good friend Levi.
[00:57:59] Who says?
[00:58:01] I need at least two more movies with David Harbour and this premise.
[00:58:03] Maybe he teams up with the Kwanzaa and Hanukkah representations in the sequel.
[00:58:07] It doesn't matter.
[00:58:08] Just give me two hours of the glorious ultra-violent holiday deity's fisticuffing.
[00:58:12] Inject that directly into my veins.
[00:58:14] Hell,
[00:58:14] meet up with the Easter Bunny or Frosty the Snowman.
[00:58:16] I
[00:58:17] needs it.
[00:58:18] Such a sweet premise and playing on the Christmas magic of it all.
[00:58:21] I was never really sure Santa was immortal or just fortuitously timed.
[00:58:24] It felt like he could have died at any moment.
[00:58:26] And that final kill with John Leguizamo is chef's kiss.
[00:58:29] All you have to do is believe.
[00:58:32] Aww.
[00:58:32] Mm-hmm.
[00:58:34] Thanks, Levi, Laura, and Catherine for sending in feedback.
[00:58:39] If you'd like to share your feedback with us, you can find us on Facebook and Instagram
[00:58:43] at Run For Your Lives Podcast.

[00:59:02] And don't forget to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts.
[00:59:05] That is the best way to share the love and get us out there even more.
[00:59:09] We really appreciate it.
[00:59:11] We absolutely do appreciate it a lot.
[00:59:14] Always love the feedback.
[00:59:16] Love to hear from you guys.
[00:59:17] Makes us happy and full of holiday cheer, even for the whole rest of the year.
[00:59:23] But speaking of sharing the love, got to give those shout-outs to things going on in the
[00:59:26] Podcastica universe around us.
[00:59:28] A lot of people here on Podcastica still working hard, watching shows, doing notes, recording
[00:59:34] episodes, doing all the stuff for you that we love to do.
[00:59:37] So you can go check out the cast of us over there where Jason, I say Jason and Lucy have
[00:59:43] been doing the Walking Dead rewatch.
[00:59:45] Of course, this week, the newest episode you can check out.
[00:59:48] Jason is joined by Amelie and Veronica this week as they're taking a break from the rewatch
[00:59:53] to cover the first six episodes of season two of Silo.
[00:59:58] So the Apple TV series over there starring Rebecca Ferguson, at least in the first season.
[01:00:05] I still have only – I'm still like halfway through that first season.
[01:00:08] I get too much to do.
[01:00:11] But too many shows.
[01:00:12] I'm going to binge them all eventually.
[01:00:14] Maybe.
[01:00:15] So much.
[01:00:16] So much great TV.
[01:00:17] But if you're checking out Silo, if you're watching that, loving that, definitely go check
[01:00:19] out their coverage of the first part of season two over there.
[01:00:23] A lot of good stuff to check out.
[01:00:25] Also, Jason's been working hard on the Cobra Kai cast.
[01:00:28] They're wrapping up this second batch of episodes pretty soon.
[01:00:32] So you can go check out that.
[01:00:34] And then we'll just get the last five or sometime next year, early next year.
[01:00:38] It's going to be great, crazy last season of Cobra Kai.
[01:00:41] So if you're watching that, loving that, definitely check out the coverage over there.
[01:00:46] Over on Squid Game cast.
[01:00:49] It's getting close.
[01:00:51] Season two drops in just a few days, like after Christmas.
[01:00:55] So it's coming up very, very soon.
[01:00:59] There's kind of a recap of season one and some predictions and stuff that Daphne was on that
[01:01:04] is up now that we talked about even last week.
[01:01:06] But of course, once the season drops, they'll be releasing that pretty soon, at least for
[01:01:12] that first episode.
[01:01:13] So stay tuned for that and check it out.
[01:01:16] And then over on Star Wars TV cast.
[01:01:19] Yeah, it's Christmas Day, but we're still going to be recording today.
[01:01:24] If you're listening to this on Christmas, this evening on episode five of Skeleton Crew.
[01:01:29] Me and Daphne have been covering that and having a blast with it.
[01:01:33] Yes.
[01:01:33] This is a Star Wars nerd, and it's been great for me.
[01:01:37] And then just for our opportunity to, for the first time, me and her together covering
[01:01:40] a TV show weekly.
[01:01:42] It's been really fun and really cool, and I'm excited for it.
[01:01:45] Yeah, me too.
[01:01:46] It's been awesome.
[01:01:47] I like having week to week looking at the show and, you know, just following the story.
[01:01:54] It's just different from doing movies, and it's just been a blast being able to do that
[01:01:59] together.
[01:02:00] Yeah.
[01:02:01] So that should be out.
[01:02:02] So again, if you're listening to this on Christmas Day as it's released, then that'll
[01:02:06] be out tomorrow.
[01:02:06] You should be able to check out our episode five of Skeleton Crew coverage.
[01:02:11] So do that.
[01:02:12] And yeah, if you haven't watched Skeleton Crew yet, binge it.
[01:02:15] Binge these first five episodes on Disney+.
[01:02:17] It's so good.
[01:02:18] What are you waiting for if you haven't watched it yet?
[01:02:21] Right.
[01:02:21] I am not a Star Wars nerd, and I'm loving it so far.
[01:02:25] Yes.
[01:02:26] Get on it.
[01:02:27] But then outside of podcast, of course, we give our love to our good friends over at
[01:02:31] TV Podcast Industries, as also just dropped right now.
[01:02:36] Marvel, over on Disney+, has the What If Final Season, Season 3.
[01:02:40] And I think they released all of them just at once.
[01:02:43] So I don't know the release or schedule for TV Podcast Industries right now, but definitely
[01:02:49] be checking out their coverage of What If.
[01:02:51] They've been doing a great job with those first two seasons.
[01:02:53] Definitely check out what they're doing here.
[01:02:55] And then if you want any more of me and Daphne outside of Podcastica right now, then of course
[01:03:00] you can hear Buffalo, Buffalo podcast, where we also are joined by our friends Jeff and Jerry
[01:03:05] to play some games, make each other laugh, have a good time.
[01:03:10] Just chat about whatever and be absolutely ridiculous.
[01:03:14] And we have a good time with that.
[01:03:16] So we're having fun.
[01:03:17] Come have fun with us.
[01:03:18] And we dropped a Christmas episode today as well.
[01:03:21] Yeah.
[01:03:21] So there's another Christmas holiday special.
[01:03:25] If you want to go listen to Buffalo, Buffalo, we have another one from me and Daphne.
[01:03:29] So you can go check that out.
[01:03:31] But yeah, other than that, we've pretty much wrapped up our season here.
[01:03:36] There's just one more thing we need to do before we take our little break.
[01:03:40] Daphne, what are we doing next week?
[01:03:44] Well, it's the end of the season.
[01:03:47] This is episode 199.
[01:03:51] So next week, episode 200 is our season eight finale and look back special.
[01:03:59] Paik and I are going to be picking our usual array of characters and side characters and
[01:04:08] movies, threats, and episodes to bring to you.
[01:04:12] And maybe one or two other categories that could be fun.
[01:04:17] Oh, you'll have to let me know what those are because I have no idea.
[01:04:21] No.
[01:04:22] Yeah, we'll see what we can do.
[01:04:23] But yeah, it'll be fun.
[01:04:25] It's yet another Riffle Awards for you.
[01:04:28] We will bring our nominees to the list and then kind of live in action against each other
[01:04:36] with each other.
[01:04:37] I don't know.
[01:04:38] Sometimes we work together.
[01:04:39] Sometimes we work against each other.
[01:04:40] We'll see.
[01:04:40] But we've got to pick a winner in each category and do our best to do that.
[01:04:44] So it's always fun.
[01:04:45] We always have a blast doing that.
[01:04:47] We do.
[01:04:48] So I'm excited.
[01:04:49] I'll have to go back and look at all of the great stuff that we've covered and talked
[01:04:52] about and done this season because it's been a really fun one.
[01:04:55] So yeah, a lot to look back at.
[01:04:57] I think that it's going to be even harder this season for some reason.
[01:05:01] I'm not sure why.
[01:05:02] I'm just getting a vibe or feeling that we're going to have a harder time coming to consensus
[01:05:09] and it's going to be harder even for us to maybe, you know, narrow things down to what
[01:05:14] we want to bring to the table.
[01:05:16] Yeah.
[01:05:17] So I'm excited.
[01:05:18] I haven't as we're recording this, I haven't really had taken the time to go back and look
[01:05:22] at everything yet, but I will very soon and I'm excited to see, you know, just revisit
[01:05:28] everything we've done and then also totally terrified that they didn't have to try to rank
[01:05:32] it in any kind of way.
[01:05:33] So it's like picking favorites.
[01:05:36] Yeah.
[01:05:36] It's so hard to do when you enjoy the movies that we've discussed this season.
[01:05:41] So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it.
[01:05:44] And like you, terrified at having to narrow things down.
[01:05:48] I mean, it's going to be a sweep for trap, right?
[01:05:52] In every category.
[01:05:55] I don't know about that, but I guess we'll see.
[01:06:02] With that, it brings us to the end of another fun episode and our fifth Run For Your Lives
[01:06:09] Christmas special.
[01:06:10] Thanks everyone for listening.
[01:06:11] I'm Daphne.
[01:06:13] And I'm Pink.
[01:06:15] And if you have to run, you better run for your lives.
[01:06:19] Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy buh-bye.
