[00:00:55] Hello and welcome to the Star Wars TV Cast, broadcasting around the world and across the galaxy This is Episode 69, I'm Jonathan And I'm James, this week we're covering Andor Season 2 Arc 1, directed by Ariel Kleeman and of course written by Mr. Tony Gilroy Join us as we discuss the first three episodes of Andor Season 2

[00:01:25] Well hello dear listeners and welcome back finally for Andor Season 2 And an interesting first arc it was, we had Stormtroopers, experimental TIE fighters, Cassian once again trying to escape We had the Deirdre in Cyril Khan sitcom, Kranic is back, Bix is almost back and Cassian continues to murder his way through the galaxy

[00:01:49] An incredible wedding scene with Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothmoth stealing the show, had fantastic set pieces and all in all it was a great first arc But as you know dear listeners, I like my Star Wars a certain way and I had some issues, which we will be discussing Believe me Oh dear, he goes, he goes, my first thoughts on this I mean, my overall impression was, and I texted Jonathan the minute I watched it, was perfection Oh that's great

[00:02:18] I loved it man I mean, from the minute you hear, like You know, we start and we have the Andor logo comes up Yeah But then it drops into the ominous bell toll music that takes us back And it really did those, just two, couple of bell tones and that really kind of brought you right back into exactly where we were, right? Yeah, into Marv's, yeah, into the Andor Wondering what happened to all the people from Ferex in the aftermath

[00:02:47] Yeah, if they're all in chains or if it's just, it's just a normal day isn't it? You know, it's like another thing But I have to say though, the thing that got me at the start Yeah Was we then get in the classic sort of cyan and font BBY4 cover Yeah On the screen and it's like, ah, it's just Just to have the timeline stamped, to have the battle before you have been Yeah That time

[00:03:14] They seem to be less and less afraid to embrace the original trilogy markings, you know? Well I think as we're approaching it now, I think that's clever Because we are literally four years, as it tells us, four years away from the original series Exactly So I think it's going to weave perfectly into it, Jonathan I think it's going to And I trust in the Gilroy So let it be said

[00:03:41] As I've been hearing a few people say, let Tony Gilroy cook So I've heard a lot of people thinking it was a bit slow And, but, you know, and it was sold as four separate movies, like how they put it But it's clearly not, you know? You can watch it in that arc and there will be arcs But this did feel like a very set-up-y first three episodes

[00:04:10] Yeah, I mean, yeah, it did I mean, it is still a little slow-burnery But, I mean, I have to say though, as we start When we get like the first scene where we see You just knew this wasn't a slow-burner Yeah The fact that you see that TIE fighter hangar And I'm like, oh, what an opening shot God I mean, I was just reading up on that Apparently Oh yes, yes, yes James has done some research Oh no, yeah, I'll get to that in a minute

[00:04:39] But just actually from the set design That is a fully interior exterior set piece Oh yeah That is fully built And they designed it It takes its full weight on the four points Wow From the wings You know how it lands and plays It was obviously they built a TIE fighter And not just the entrance But it seems like they built the whole thing Yeah, no, they did It's fully kitted out inside-outside Which I imagine this is now his ship Yeah

[00:05:09] I love the convenience That it's bigger than either TIE So you can get the whole crew in there Yeah, a couple of jump seats at the back Exactly Be alright But yeah, but just that opening Was just I'm like, right We're off Yeah This is great And yeah And I just The And you see Cassian in that test pilot uniform Yeah And it's like Oh dear Fantastic And I have to say that

[00:05:39] But he completely fools us again, right? Because you think Okay, this is a year since what has gone on And that year Clearly Cassian has now become a really adept super spy And he's really confident And knows everything And he's in this And then Well that was always his trick You know, Luthan when he first met him He goes, how do you do it? How did you get into the facility? And he's just like You know, you just be one of them They're not looking

[00:06:07] You know, if you're confident enough You go in And he just puts on that fantastic test pilot's uniform Which is the TIE fighter uniform with red accents all over it Detailing Yeah, like tailoring Well, it didn't look that tailored It looked a bit baggy on him I think he's a He apparently is a small guy And I was reading some comments by the costume designer And they said they had to size down the standard size helmet

[00:06:36] So he didn't look too Oh really? Yeah, didn't look like he had a giant head Again, just to sort of stay on this scene The conversation he has with the nervous undercover technician Yeah I found that was great I thought it was so sweet And immediately rounds home to everyone That everyone, of all walks of life Is risking everything now for the rebellion They realise that you can't let the empire Everyone has to do their bit Yeah

[00:07:05] And that line, if I die tonight, was it worth it? Well, who knows? That's the thing That's the risk, isn't it? And the tragedy of it all You know, you can have a million, a thousand small fights And they can be all meaningless But, and you never know the outcome Each one builds on the other And although, you know, it may not have any direct Because Cassian could have been caught Before he even got out the door You know, it would have all been for nothing

[00:07:34] And she would be caught and tortured And killed, basically So it's just high risk for something You know, as Luthan said For a future they'll never see Yes, exactly As we all know, they would never see But I also think it's It clearly shows that when he has this This little conversation with her That Marva's death and Nemec's manifesto

[00:08:01] Have really made a huge impression on him now And he's all in I mean, we'd, at the end of season one We'd like, you know, take me or kill me Yeah But this, clearly now that he He's drinking from the water cooler And he's definitely more of a Luthan Than a Mon kind of rebel, isn't he? He's no longer a mercenary

[00:08:30] But he's as, he's as kind of harsh as one He's mercenary as a rebellion Yeah As a rebel As a rebel, yeah He literally takes no prisoners As we discussed in our preamble Cassian just basically kills everyone He comes across with Oh, it's pretty, I mean It's pretty epic I mean, should we get on to the theft of the Yeah, let's go Or should I discuss the actual TIE? Oh no, before, yeah, no, please

[00:08:59] James has done some research and And is going to give us a background of that fantastic new ship Okay, alright, everyone settle down Sit down, class will begin Quiet at the back Alright, so apparently this I did a bit of a dive on this So this TIE Fire class is Apparently it's a Avenger And it's a prototype And it was first actually, it was introduced in 1994

[00:09:28] It was a Star Wars TIE Fighter game Where you played an Imperial And you had to stop rebels from stealing prototype ships Right And this was one that was featured in it and stuff And so the theory is The reason we don't see this anywhere else Is clearly it's not easy to fly Yeah As we find out That might be a bit of a design flaw Yeah, well that's it, this is a prototype

[00:09:55] But then I imagine that the whole point of this is like Okay, so Sarkassian is stealing this So that the rebels can learn Yeah And then the theory is that Their strengths and weaknesses Their strengths and weaknesses And in the original trilogy They can take them down with ease It's because they've learnt how they are etc And also because the Empire does not value its pilots And so there is no shielding on a TIE fighter Whereas the X-Wings do have a shield

[00:10:26] Yes They have deflector shields So basically, anyway So this is the TIE Avenger Which we then I think the way this goes is They streamline this design And it's, we see it again as a TIE interceptor In Return of the Jedi Yeah It has that pointy thing and the speed and all the rest of it But how this one stands out is It has a hyper speed, it has a hyperdrive And also, and correct me if I'm wrong Jonathan

[00:10:55] But when he presses all the little buttons We see 50k mini guns Yes And I'm like, hold on a minute Now I don't know if he ever fires them or not But if he does They fire a projectile around No, they were the laser mini guns Yes Remember in the Clone Wars They would often have And it was one of the great weapons in Battlefront Was the mini gun Was the laser mini gun

[00:11:22] And James and I, dear listeners Often and fellow gamers Often discussed one of our great moments of glory The ridge On the planet of Hoth When we were holding the ridge Against the incoming hordes of stormtroopers It was one of our greatest gaming moments ever One of the greatest moments ever, Jonathan That's true Both of my children We were holding the ridge They're all up there

[00:11:50] We single handedly turn the tide of that game Yes Anyway Yes, I mean that's basically I found that interesting It's like, what the hell is this ship? And then so he did a dive into it And the great thing is that The Empire has just got money to burn And they don't communicate with the department So like this prototype gets nicked Gets lost And they give up on it So conveniently it's never seen in canon again

[00:12:19] So it means that it can be played with In this show Which is brilliant But I do love the fact that it is slightly bigger So we can get the crew in there And it can, you know, it has light speed capabilities So it's, I think that this is Cassian's ship for the show Well that would be awesome, that's a good call actually Let's break down the scene And Cassian kind of casually walking through the facility as ever

[00:12:46] And then walks into the, to the, to the hangar And there's that ship And it just looks absolutely gorgeous And as all gamers know You always skip the tutorial But he clearly, he clearly forgot to invert the Y axis Well, exactly Later on, like, doesn't he explain to the rebels There is no manual Yeah And it's like when you get a new car

[00:13:15] And he's trying to, and you're trying to park It's like any man who buys a new car Those rims aren't going to last Yeah So he's, but, you know, and this, dear listeners Is where I kind of have the beginnings of a little bit of concern The tone Sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry

[00:13:41] I'm all in, but there's just, you know, there are things stopping it being a 10 out of 10 And this is one of them Instead of, to me, it felt like a bit of farce Him crashing everywhere And crashing, rather than, I didn't feel tension I felt it was just played for a laugh You know, because, you know, shoving the handle forward rather than easing it out

[00:14:05] You know, it's just, you know, it feels like they were doing, mirroring Han Solo I was going to say, yeah But it kind of worked I will let that go for a minute Yeah, but it kind of worked with Han because he was cocky And he was getting his car come up Whereas casting is meant to be competent And so, I understand they want to have some fun and things

[00:14:32] But, you know, it's just the, like, I love it when Star Wars is serious And this is one that is, is, this is meant to be the serious one And, um... I wonder if, I wonder if... And then we've always said this is the grown-up Star Wars Yeah And everything, and we loved Caesar Walther And I just wonder if the showrunners were slightly wary that they should just have a... You know, a couple of lighter moments Absolutely I think... I think...

[00:15:00] I feel the hand of Kathleen Kennedy and Disney Star Wars Chop it off! Chop the hand! Yeah, because I think they ignored season one because it wasn't really their baby Because it was, you know, widely well-received Oh my god, it's now the cash cow Yeah, I think there were some notes The problem is don't ruin it Just don't ruin it Yeah, yeah Well, the budget on this was huge

[00:15:30] It was like five times what the Kenobi series was Yeah, and I think the first three, three episodes was more than the entire Kenobi series Well, I think a lot of that comes down to the practical locations and stuff Yeah And it's so worthwhile, isn't it? Yeah Yeah, I mean, again, I started doing my travelogue Where it's filmed and stuff They're putting in some air miles on this one Yeah, absolutely

[00:16:00] So he finally gets it under control, vaguely And then of course we see him just mowing down the stormtroopers With the laser Gatling gun in green, which was very nice Can I step in with something here? Absolutely, go for it Mowing them down Yeah This one is to our dear co-host, Kristen Ah, Kristen! Should we be pleased with this point? So as we watch him attempt in to pass his driving licence

[00:16:30] And get the damn thing out the door You know it's the heavy stormtrooper? Yeah With his fur collar So, and the only time we've seen them in live action is in Solo Ah The movie of all time, apparently Yeah, when's that podcast coming, guys? I don't think... Oh, yeah, we're still talking We're in discussions My people are talking to her people So anyway, yeah

[00:16:57] So the range troopers are known for wielding longer range weapons Right But did you recognise the weaponry, Jonathan? The smart rocket Yeah, it looked like the smart rocket from... Battlefront Battlefront again, wasn't it? It is, yeah So basically, I love this So they're embracing the whole of the universe here Yeah, good... And they're bringing in more and more different assets into live action Which is just amazing The more they do that, the better

[00:17:24] Because, you know, to give away the whole of the extended universe And decanonise it was... Not only was it cruel to... But it was just kind of a huge mistake Because there's so much good... You don't have to use all of it But there are so many good things And so many assets from that you can use Yeah... And they are using it now But it's a shame they were so hesitant in the beginning

[00:17:55] But here we are, ten years later after, you know, Disney bought Star Wars And still enjoying a lot of it Eh... I was going to say most of it Half of it? Well, much of it... I mean... I would say half of it now Yeah... So I think we've... The acolyte's not coming back, is it? Tell me it's not coming back No, no, no... Okay, cool... Moving on... Very quiet...

[00:18:23] Anyway, I love the way he dispatched with the ranged trooper as well And what was that? It felt like a laser... I think it's like he charged it up, right? Yeah... It was like a hold down X until it reached... Yeah, exactly... And then release... And then he... What are those guns called which just fire a projectile? A rail gun? It felt like a... Yeah...

[00:18:51] Possibly, because it punched that huge hole through the ranged trooper and the wall And then it was quite funny when you just see the external shot And then there's just massive circles Yeah... It's just effing... So I guess in the Star Wars universe, you know, aerodynamics aren't really how they fly There's anti-grav because he's just... That thing must... I know it's armoured but it would have taken so much damage

[00:19:22] Not only in that point but as they were flying out through the canyon Oh, yeah... I mean, I think maybe this one does have deflector shield Yeah... I mean, he'll read the manual eventually and we'll see Yeah... Yeah, I mean, of course it's anti-gravimine None of the ships are aerodynamic No, exactly right And it looks awesome and we'll let them have it But yeah...

[00:19:48] I mean, I love this ship and I didn't even think that that might be Cassian's ship from now on But that's fantastic if it is Well, I... We'll see, I mean, you know, we know how this goes with Andor It'll probably blow up in the next scene Well, yeah, exactly James is known for... For any times he loves any character now Hopefully not the vehicle They will die So, yes, like now and the next episode it will blow up in the very first minute, I'm sure

[00:20:19] Probably... But it's good to see a classic canyon escape Yeah... And just sling it through And all good And he obviously escapes intact Which is lucky... Before we move on, I noticed a little Easter egg in the beginning When she asked for the password Oh... Yeah, it was Caffreen Which is... Well, it's from Rogue One

[00:20:47] There was a set of binary asteroids That were joined together by basically a city And they were spinning around each other And that's Caffreen So, yeah, there's a little throw forward into the future I thought that was interesting and worth mentioning Yeah... I mean, we could have gone on for... I mean, we could have... Listeners, we could have paused this And put this out in like six days And dug really deep, couldn't we? Yeah... We figured we'd get it out there...

[00:21:16] Yeah, exactly... Yeah... And if anyone has played these Star Wars games You know the visibility out the front of a TIE fighter Is terrible When you're playing first person Yeah, this one feels a little bit better Because it... Clearly it's bigger It feels to me that that viewing window Is almost Millennium Falcon size Yeah, that's true It's pretty big

[00:21:45] But like compared to an X-Wing You can't look up And you only had a very narrow window And so when you're playing it When you're playing these games You can't see anything And the X-Wing is a far superior ship to fly in VR But I must say in the Battlefront games My favourite ship to fly was the TIE Interceptor Interceptor Unstoppable, very fast Yeah...

[00:22:14] Okay, so yeah, so he crashes Well, he lands on... And what turns out to be Yavin 4 Did you notice that? Exactly I didn't... It didn't click with me initially Until he leaves Yeah, and then you see the... And you see the... And you see the... Exactly And I was like, wait a minute Hang on a second... I recognise that planet And do you know where that was shot? That location? No

[00:22:41] That is shot in the jungles of Taika, I think it is In Guatemala Down in South America Not just... So it was really on location I'm not sure... I mean that's where it was for New Hope Right, oh right Oh okay, yeah I think to be honest actually This was filmed... This felt like a... No, this was... Yeah, I think it's just outside Pinewood It's a sound stage, yeah Yeah, it's where they did the exterior shots

[00:23:11] And some of the stuff with... For the more recent films with... I can't remember the planet But where the falcon lands and stuff And it's in a sort of foresty kind of area Oh and just to... But yeah, Yavin 4 Just before we go on I just want to let listeners know We are going back to... Covering this planet by planet The show suffered a bit from far too much editing Back and forth from...

[00:23:42] From various scenarios So we're going to just follow the storyline Of each kind of event or planet as we go Yeah, I mean I think that I guess that's... They're pacing, they're trying to keep the pacing up So they're jumping back and forth Yeah Season 1 seemed to dwell on maybe two different... Yeah, and I felt like you didn't... Another criticism I'm afraid folks Is like...

[00:24:11] Oh, it's nearly negative tonight You didn't get to... Well it's just more in... Not the show but just kind of strange decisions in the editing And I think it is they're worried it was too slow So this time it was... They kept jumping back and forth between scenarios And you didn't really ever feel like you settled in Like saying the Lord of the Rings when you were with Sam and Frodo But you know, by the time you got to the...

[00:24:41] And went jump to the say Aragon You were sad to leave them And like, oh no, I want to see what happens next It was a bit of a cliffhanger And then as soon as you get into the other scene You go, oh this is amazing And when you go back to Sam and Frodo You're like, oh no, I want to stay with these guys Because it's all... But this one, it just jumped and jumped and jumped I think, again, it's like you said They needed to pace it a bit faster Also I think you've got to look at this timeline Like you've got... Well yeah, but you've got three episodes here back to back

[00:25:10] Which is compressing a whole year of galactic events You see what I mean? So they're trying to show you because... I mean we'll get to what the ISB and everyone are doing in a bit But they're trying to... Everything is now going to start moving at a great pace If you think about it, it's... You've got like, what, three more years Until like the Death Star is ready to roll And so they're like, okay... Yeah, they've got to move on, don't they? You've got to move at a pace

[00:25:40] I mean, I would have... With you, I'd have happily spent more time with each of them Best of time and stretched this to two seasons Well, it's not more extra time I just felt the cutting back and forth was too much Like they could have sat with one scenario for a bit longer For each scenario a bit longer But the cuts, they just kept going back and forth Very, very quickly I didn't notice it as much as you did actually

[00:26:08] I mean, personally, I know that it's a favourite of yours I think, but the wedding and the Mom Mothma I felt dragged for me a little Yeah, I agree I think they jumped out of that here and there Well, I thought they kept... I think there was a lot of great shots And they didn't want to drop them You know, the editors are like, ah, I can't drop this That's a great shot, that's a great shot But it was a bit repetitive and made it drag on

[00:26:37] And it was odd to... But I guess that's a contrast of jumping back and forth Between the jungle But, anyway, let's get on to the rather strange side mission That Cassian finds himself on Oh my god, this is brilliant And it felt like he was... This was just to delay him So he could come swooping in at the end Possibly, but I also think it's kind of a good way

[00:27:04] To explain how slapdash the rebels still are Right, yeah And what a mess they are And what's her name? Maya, who he's looking for Who we find out is dead Yeah And she's the leader of... These are the neo-republic rebels, aren't they? Which are mentioned by Saw Gerrera Ah, that's right, yeah He mentions three or four It's the speech where he talks to Luthan

[00:27:32] About this, I think, four different factions And they basically can't get their shit together And they all have different things and stuff So I think it served a purpose In that to show how disorganized the rebels are And how they don't trust anyone And the fact that Cassian won't reveal who he's working with Because he doesn't... But yeah, it was a bit of a side quest Yes That went on for a long... As you said, we jumped back and forth But it goes on for two episodes

[00:28:02] It was so weird But you are establishing the Av in four as well Yeah, but the acting felt so kind of really Hollywood And the dudes are all like bros And with sleeveless shirts And what about rock, paper, scissors? Oh my God I'm not a card Because I thought it was going to be Some sort of battle It was a duel to the death Yeah, me too And then it turned into like a four way rock, paper, scissors Who is your second? Yeah

[00:28:32] And I thought it was like a gladiator like... So did I I thought it was going to be a duel And then it's like... And then they're doing these... Yeah, that's right The snake hands I'm doing all the snake hands And I just was laughing And not in a good way I'm just like this is ridiculous It was a little bizarre But I think that again plays into the absurdity of how disorganized these lot are Yeah And like how the hell are they going to take down the death star? But see that sort of thing...

[00:28:59] Yeah, but that sort of thing would have been out of place in season one So this is my main critique of this so far is there seems to be the tone is just inconsistent And I prefer the tone of a more serious tone And this was just silly There was not anything about the rock, paper, scissors scene that should be in this show It should have been a knife fight

[00:29:29] It just felt like a high school version of West Side Story But also why are they fighting? They all... I don't know Probably 24 hours before we joined them They're all on the same team And it was just... They'd only been there a couple of days as well Yeah, yeah Because as Cassian says It's like we weren't here when I left three days ago It just really wasn't that... And then they just shoot each other over a... You said this and then he just shoots her Yeah And there was no...

[00:29:58] And they just kind of collapsed There was no impact from the blaster A close range of a blaster You're getting knocked over But they just kind of collapsed to the fore But I have an idea why this might have been weird So, Kleinman, the director Tell me Also directed the... I saw in his IMDB Directed the eighth episode of the Showtime Yellow Jackets And check that out, listeners That's a very good show and a great podcast Really good

[00:30:28] One of my favourites And the podcast is fantastic Cast member Melanie Linsky said In the episode Flight of the Bumblebee Was her favourite episode Because Kleinman Who directed that one Allowed the cast to play around And improvise several scenes Oh... So, do you think this whole scene was improv I think parts of it were And just, you know, do it again But, you know, make it more fun Or whatever... But he's actually Australian Kleinman

[00:30:58] So I will take some responsibility, folks So, I don't know It... And then he found... Then she finds the severed foot Which was so fake And so silly Yeah... And it didn't... It was kind of rounded at the end I know that's... And this person had died, what? A day or two ago? The pre... I guess they were trying to spy on the other crowd And before I even saw the foot It was raining so much

[00:31:27] That I'm just like I know they're gonna have some Dumb dinosaur scene in this Because, you know, when it rains You always expect some large CGI Because the rain... Rain and darkness Yeah... Yeah, and there had been mention about like Yeah, the wildlife, hadn't there? Yeah... And he says things like Square up! Let's go! And they say very contemporary language Very L.A. language

[00:31:56] It was so weird, this scene But I just wanna just bring us back to this situation So, let's play a game for this season Yes, James How many times can Cassian get captured? Yeah... Capture Cassian! That's the problem, he was just... That was what was so sad about this For two... Well, I guess for half of the three episodes He was just tied up Well, he has to be Because he's a liability He just goes around killing everyone Yeah... If he's let loose for like

[00:32:26] 60 minutes per episode There'd be nobody left But literally this scene was so... The rest of the episodes could happen And his timing would be right to come in So it was just basically a delaying tactic I'd have rather seen him drifting through space maybe For like a day or two Yeah... Or this to be played seriously, you know Because remember there were little bits like When the guy comes and goes Is there any food? Yeah...

[00:32:56] And they're like... Everyone goes no at the same time And it's jokey It's kind of improbable... It's almost pantomime Yeah... And like you could have really played that Like, you know, is there any food? So there's a desperation around it Yeah... There was no danger or desperation I agree with you actually It's kind of really out of place Yeah... Yeah... When we meet them in season one Yeah... And they're hardcore fanatics Yeah... And supposedly...

[00:33:24] These are all hardcore fanatics Yeah... They just have different agendas and stuff But these are a bunch of Muppets It was like a bunch of guys hanging out at the local bar You know, and someone... You know, they'd run out of money or something Yeah... I don't know... This scene didn't work for me But, you know, it is what it is And... And we... And we'll move on We'll move on Jonathan... Drop the sword, Jonathan We'll just move on

[00:33:53] He finally escapes Killing a few on the way And... But there was in the next episode That beautiful shot of the... Of the Tire Avenger, was it? Yeah... Yeah... Yeah... That was a nice reward Alright, so... Let's... Let's take a break for a minute And we'll be right back

[00:34:25] Alright, so... Let's jump into our starshit, James We forgot to do that earlier We must have already been with our... Being on Yavin 4 It's the carbonite, mate I'm still deep-dossed in I apologise Exactly... Our eyesight is slowly returning And we head to the... Maltheen Divide Where we meet Krennic again And they have this great...

[00:34:55] Scene to... To make plans And it really reminded me of... Hitler's eagle's nest a bit Yeah... The super secret meeting Yeah, exactly I love the... The way where it's... It's like, right All droids will be erased And like... Everything... Yeah... Bloody hell It's like, what's going on? Yeah... And Tarkin keeps getting mentioned Yeah... Isn't that great? Yeah... And the Emperor... He's actually mentioned as the Emperor now... Yeah... Right... Yeah...

[00:35:25] Because... I think it was still Senator Palpatine last... That's right... In Season 1... And I think now he's actually the Emperor... So... It's all... It's all full steam ahead with the... The Reich... And again... Actually... Now you've got me thinking about it... This comedic... Like... Thing continues... Because... Like looked at him as a hero rather than... You know the annoying... Yeah... Yeah... Undlinger... And there was that moment that you thought... Are they about to kiss? Remember that? Yeah...

And he's in this situation... Yeah... Yeah... And... And she's just... Ruling with a rod of iron... Yeah... He's happy for her to wear the pants... I think... In this one... But I...

[00:50:34] I laughed out loud when she smiled... And then laughed even harder... When I see him... Admiring himself in that arc of five mirrors... You know... Checking out his light tailoring... Yes... Exactly... And I feel like he feels... I don't know if they've made him look skinnier... Or something... Maybe he is... But he looks... He looks meeker... Than he was in season one... I mean that's probably... Deliberately for this situation... And then... Obviously... So they're getting ready for the dinner guest... And like... And I was...

[00:51:02] And the minute the doorbell went... And like the penny dropped in my head... And it's like... Exactly... It's got to be Cyril's mum... It's got to be mother... It's got to be... Oh and how good is this confrontation... It's so fantastic... I mean... And look... You know I go... This is no place in Star Wars... This either... But this was really good... And this really really worked... Yeah... And it was funny... Because it was... In... In universe... Whereas the Jungle... Jungle boys...

Alien-esque sort of feel... That the mother does... And just something... Yeah... So I mean... I guess it's down to... Also... Hair and makeup... And costuming... Well the costume in there... Yeah... Exactly... But they also... Like the mother had that very...

[00:52:00] Kind of high hair... Very you know... Set... Deirdre always looks like her... And you know... It still was all very... In universe... And worked within universe... But still... Hilarious... And as they say... I did not know I needed... This scene in my life... But it was fantastic... Oh it's so good... I mean... And the way the mother destroys... Like a... Spoiled little brat... She like... She deliberately spills food on the table... She doesn't get everything to wind Cyril up to the point where...

[00:52:30] Bless him... He has to go and have a lie down... I know... And she's... Gloriously... Obnoxiously chopping up her food... Oh yeah... Or whatever it is... Yeah... But then the way Deirdre deals with her is like... She uses the highest level of her tyrannical... Sort of... Yeah... Like... Skill set... Yeah... Puts... Puts... She reminds her of her place in the Empire... And lays down the law... And I swear it was one of the best action scenes I've seen in Star Wars... Yeah... It was... Yes...

[00:53:00] It was... And the way she... She warns her... The mother to not... You know... Banned the... You know... Banned the name of the uncle around... That's right... Because she's... She's looked into his ISB criminal record... Yeah... And... And to see him just lying so forlornly on the bed... But then to come out and realise the sudden change... And he's actually being praised... And yes... I was very... I was very proud of Deirdre at that moment...

[00:53:28] And pleased for Cyril... Still my favourite character in Andor... Oh dear... Early right in that scene where like he first comes in... And they're close up... And Deirdre grabs him doesn't she... By the... Cheeks... Yeah... Not by the cheeks but just round the chin... Yeah... And it's not to kiss him or anything... It's almost just to hold him like he's a pet or something... Yeah... Yeah... It's like checking his teeth... Yeah... That's right... It's like... If we're in Harry Potter that'd be Dobby... Yeah... You know...

[00:53:56] That was always one of the weird things in Harry Potter... Yeah... So... But yeah... I mean I look forward to seeing how this relationship goes... Obviously Deirdre's going to plan... Because it's like... Yeah... The reticule sort of locks... It's beep, beep, beep, beep, beep... Red... Yeah... Like... Fire and forget... Fire and forget... Fire and forget... And I just love that shot... Like... You've got the... Was it the three... I guess... Officers... In uniform... Running through the wheat... And then like the six troopers... Yeah... And he just...

[01:37:51] Launches rockets... And then... Just the way we see those... Troopers go flying through the air... When the laser barrage... Sort of hits them... Yeah... Very, very satisfying... But... Yeah... But... Well for my one... Well... Well it was a very brief moment... But it's the one thing... That kind of... You know... May... Gave me goosebumps... It was when... When he was... When he was floating out in space... And he just flicks on all the power... And he powers up the TIE fighter...

[01:38:19] And then goes into hyperspace... Yeah... I was like... Ah... Yeah... I could have done a POV version of it... But... Yeah... But that was a small moment... What was nice about that... Was he had to... Didn't he... He had to patch in his... That was it... Because he grabbed that backpack... Or whatever it was... Yeah... That little... When he ran and escaped... And I presume that was... The communication... Long distance communication... Yeah... Because he had to patch that in... And that reminded me of Chewie and Han... Yes...

[01:38:48] He pulled the panel off the wall... And he's testing the wires... And he literally hot wires... It doesn't look like... Clips two wires together... And then like... It just kicks in... And we've now got... Yeah... Yeah... You know... Expecting to see 3PO fall down... A hole in the back... Or something... And R2 have his... Internal fire extinguisher... Using that... You know... Your... Oh... Swiss army knife droid... But I'm going to add one more thing James... Is my Star Wars meter...

[01:39:18] How Star Wars-y did this feel... How satisfying was the episode... And I'm afraid... I can only give this episode... A 3 out of 5... A 3 out of 5... I think we've got a lot of room... For improvement... We can drop... Hopefully have less... Modern day dialogue... But again... I'm looking forward to it... Yeah... I mean... I was... All warm and fluffy... After watching it...

[01:39:47] And I would have... If you'd have asked me... Immediately afterwards... I'd have given it a 5... But I think that's also... Because I've been waiting... 18 months... To watch it... And... And... Obviously... Watched it through now... A couple of times... And reading up on it... And listening to everyone else's feedback... I... Yeah... I... I think I would agree with you... Around about 3 out of 5... I think... I pray that there will be... Like... Improvement... And... And again...
