400: Angela Kang + 10th Anniversary Special
It’s our 10th anniversary special, and we’re celebrating in style! First it’s a fun and in-depth interview with TWD showrunner Angela Kang, who has brilliantly reinvigorated the show over the last couple seasons. Then Karen, Lucy, and I go over some of our favorite memories and highlights of doing the podcast over the years. And finally, some sweet and heartfelt messages from a bunch of you. Putting this episode together reminded me what an incredible experience it’s been doing this podcast over the years, and most of that is because of the people who have been involved with it. So thanks for listening and for being a part of this everybody. Seriously, it’s been one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever been a part of, and you guys have a lot to do with that. If you enjoy these podcasts and you'd like to throw in some support (and you're interested in hearing me and Karen on a regular basis, via The Jason & Karen Show), you can pledge at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Or if you just want to make a one-time donation, you can do that at buymeacoffee.com/cabassi. Lastly, I’d love it if every one of you guys reading this would make sure to vote this year! You’ve heard it said a lot I’m sure, but this is the most important election I personally have ever known. You can find out if you’re registered, register if you’re not, and apply to vote by mail at vote.org. Thanks guys <3 Support the show: https://patreon.com/jasonandkaren

[00:00:00] , The Walking Dead Cast, Podcastica

[00:01:14] Hi, this is Dettonai Gurira and you're listening to The Walking Dead Cast.

[00:01:24] I'm Scott Gimple, showrunner of The Walking Dead and you are listening to The Walking

[00:01:28] Dead Cast.

[00:01:29] Hey everybody, this is Dett Elcol when I play Tyrese on The Walking Dead.

[00:01:36] Hey, everybody seen Carol?

[00:01:38] Fighting Shabranow, you're listening to The Walking Dead Cast.

[00:01:48] Don't get smothered.

[00:01:50] Hey dumbass, you're listening to Jason and Karen on The Walking Dead Cast.

[00:01:58] I am Scott Wilson, I play Dershaw on The Walking Dead where we have spaghetti Tuesdays every Wednesday.

[00:02:06] Alright, in the zombie apocalypse we're going to walk around here in a field that we have by ourselves

[00:02:14] and we're going to find a way to thrive and survive and make it through.

[00:02:19] You know, it's going to be fine.

[00:02:21] Just stand here.

[00:02:22] You break up the bondo, get to go.

[00:02:34] Hey, this is Andrew Lincoln, Rick from The Walking Dead.

[00:02:37] We're listening to The Walking Dead Cast with Karen and Jason.

[00:02:42] I'm sorry this happened to you.

[00:02:47] Hey, Zed has welcomed to the podcast time, Jason.

[00:02:49] And I'm Karen.

[00:02:51] And I'm Lucy.

[00:02:52] And this is The Walking Dead Cast episode 400 celebrating 10 years of The Walking Dead Cast.

[00:03:05] How did you get all those little children to cheer for us?

[00:03:08] They were hanging out but they're filing out now.

[00:03:10] Get out of here.

[00:03:11] Thank you, appreciate it.

[00:03:14] Yeah, were you going to ask if it's really been 10 years?

[00:03:17] No, I was...

[00:03:18] It's a very even number of episodes for our 10-year Walking Dead Cast.

[00:03:24] I mean, it's actually just past the anniversary and it's also 400.

[00:03:29] Amazing.

[00:03:30] Yeah, I had been planning that ever since we published our first episode back in 2010.

[00:03:35] Well done, sir.

[00:03:38] I'm really happy to have both of you on for this.

[00:03:41] Karen, you and I started and built this thing together.

[00:03:44] And Lucy, you've been my partner in crime lately and you've been awesome.

[00:03:48] So I'm thankful that you guys both wanted to do it.

[00:03:50] So thank you.

[00:03:52] I'm really thankful for both of you too.

[00:03:55] Lucy, having you on lens, not only an amazing Scottish accent but all of the other cool stuff that you're adding to it.

[00:04:05] So yay.

[00:04:06] No, it's an honour, an actual honour to be here.

[00:04:09] I got quite emotional writing up my thoughts for the anniversary.

[00:04:13] So I think it's going to be a lovely podcast depending on what Jason has in store because he's been into things.

[00:04:19] No, I mean, I went back and you know, I felt a lot of pressure because I wanted to pull clips and I'm like,

[00:04:25] I got to pull exactly the right ones.

[00:04:26] But I'm like, nah, I'll just sort of randomly dip in and that worked like I found good stuff no matter where I dipped in.

[00:04:32] And there were a few things that stood out in my mind that I went looking for too.

[00:04:35] But yeah, it really got me just appreciating everything that we've gotten from this podcast and and that it's, you know, all the good things and just all the memories and all that.

[00:04:46] So I felt pretty choked up myself.

[00:04:48] Oh, I like it.

[00:04:50] And I remember when we started this and I looked at podcasts that had gone to 100 episodes and I was like, Jesus, these guys are obsessed man.

[00:04:59] Nerds.

[00:05:00] Dorks.

[00:05:04] Exactly.

[00:05:05] So this is cool.

[00:05:07] But this is actually really good timing because I'm told there's a new development with the Zed slightly that some of them have started evolving and they're actually starting to exhibit rudimentary speech patterns.

[00:05:20] And scientists have one in captivity and apparently he's ready to say his first words.

[00:05:26] And so they asked him why the apocalypse happened because I think they figured the Zeds might have an inside scoop on this.

[00:05:33] So let's listen and see what he has to say.

[00:05:56] Sure.

[00:05:57] You're registered.

[00:06:01] Go right now.

[00:06:05] Thank you.

[00:06:08] Wow, that's pretty cool.

[00:06:13] It's incredible.

[00:06:14] That's amazing.

[00:06:15] I was just incredible.

[00:06:16] He doesn't realize the internet and civilization are long gone but it's a nice thought.

[00:06:21] And I just wonder if the undead can vote.

[00:06:25] Well, good question.

[00:06:27] I think there's a big undead voter suppression effort going on and it's a travesty but they're on the brains platform.

[00:06:36] I know that.

[00:06:39] More brains.

[00:06:40] Two brains in every pot.

[00:06:43] I love it.

[00:06:45] But seriously, I believe that there's no more important elections so far in my long lifetime than this November's election.

[00:06:54] And I would love it if every one of you guys who's a U.S. citizen that's hearing my voice would vote.

[00:06:59] And if you do go to vote dot org you can see if you're registered you can register yourself if you aren't.

[00:07:05] And in many cases you can request a mail-in ballot so you can vote by mail.

[00:07:10] So I thought that was an important message to put it in our 10th anniversary episode.

[00:07:15] And here's the Zed.

[00:07:17] Yeah, just so happens he agrees.

[00:07:22] So our podcast is going to be in three parts today.

[00:07:26] Part one, I talked with Angela Kang, showrunner of The Walking Dead.

[00:07:31] What?

[00:07:32] Yeah.

[00:07:33] So that was awesome.

[00:07:35] I'm going to play that first.

[00:07:37] You know, I already recorded it so I'll just play that.

[00:07:40] Then we're going to talk about some of our favorite things about doing the podcast, some highlights, some moments, some memories.

[00:07:47] I have a bunch of clips to play so that will be fun.

[00:07:49] And then a bunch of you guys sent in voicemails and I actually haven't listened to almost all.

[00:07:54] I think I listened to one or two.

[00:07:56] So I'm excited to hear what you guys had to say in real time on the podcast.

[00:08:00] Love it.

[00:08:02] Exciting.

[00:08:03] So I wanted to do something special for our 10th anniversary episode, obviously.

[00:08:08] And I was hoping I want to get a big interview for this one.

[00:08:12] And Angela has been doing such an amazing job bringing the show back to its former heights and making it exciting and fresh and great.

[00:08:21] And I thought it would be a great way to celebrate 10 years of The Walking Dead podcast by talking to the woman who's been leaving the charge of making it so great.

[00:08:30] And so she was my first choice for this episode.

[00:08:34] She was the only one I asked.

[00:08:36] I didn't ask any of the actors or anybody and she said, yeah.

[00:08:39] So I'm like, cool.

[00:08:41] And I had a fun time talking to her.

[00:08:43] It was really, really cool.

[00:08:44] So without further ado, here is Angela Kang.

[00:08:53] So Angela Kang has been a writer on The Walking Dead since way back in season two.

[00:08:58] And as you guys all know, she took over a showrunner with seasons nine and 10.

[00:09:03] My co-host and I and our listeners all think that you've been doing an amazing job on the show.

[00:09:09] Angela, this is our 10th anniversary 400th episode and you were our first choices.

[00:09:13] Guess what? Thank you so much for coming on.

[00:09:15] Oh, thank you for having me.

[00:09:17] Congratulations on the anniversary.

[00:09:19] It's amazing.

[00:09:20] Yeah, it feels a little weird.

[00:09:21] Like we started a few months before The Walking Dead came on the air so we get to celebrate ours first.

[00:09:26] But pretty soon you guys will, I'm sure be having some celebrations of your own, right?

[00:09:31] Yeah, I mean it'll be, oh my gosh, this is, we're going into season 11 and everything's been delayed by the pandemic.

[00:09:41] I know.

[00:09:43] But yeah, this is my 10th year working on the show and I don't even know how many episodes we've done at this point.

[00:09:49] But I don't know that.

[00:09:51] Like a thousand.

[00:09:54] I mean when I came on, I thought like, oh, like maybe we'll get to do a couple seasons of this show and that'll be awesome.

[00:10:00] And then it's lasted so it's great.

[00:10:03] Yeah, did you have any conception that it might go a super long time or were you even thinking about that?

[00:10:09] No, I had no idea.

[00:10:10] I came on at the beginning of season two and because season one was only six episodes, that's like the seventh episode on.

[00:10:17] And shows don't really last a long time in general.

[00:10:22] So I had been on two shows for like, my last two writing jobs before that they were a season.

[00:10:30] And so I was like, yeah, this one seems like kind of popular for cable but it'll be a couple of years at most.

[00:10:36] And so I don't know, it's been really, I feel fortunate that it's gone on and that we've still had stories to tell because I love the show.

[00:10:43] Absolutely.

[00:10:44] Well, the show feels totally refreshed since you took over and there's just so many great things about it.

[00:10:52] It's unpredictable.

[00:10:53] I feel like it's gotten even scarier than normal.

[00:10:56] The pacing is fast.

[00:10:58] The characters are engaging.

[00:11:00] There's some new themes you guys are exploring, just all kinds of stuff.

[00:11:03] And I wonder if when you came on, did you have like a set of goals like, okay, now I'm going to take the reins.

[00:11:08] These are the things I want to make sure and accomplish or focus on.

[00:11:13] Well, I thank you for saying those things because I think some of the things that I didn't want to focus on was like, yeah, like I like the show to have a certain kind of pace.

[00:11:26] While also having those like really slow moments that breathe and, you know, have air but you know in general I wanted to kind of pick up pacing of storytelling and even within the episodes.

[00:11:41] I'm a huge fan of horror, which you know you would think would be obvious but the Walking Dead I think part of why it is connected with kind of a wide variety of people is it's not purely a horror show like it has a lot of character drama and heart.

[00:11:59] You know there's action adventure, all kinds of things.

[00:12:02] So our writers room has always been like a really good mix of people who come at the stories from different perspectives but I definitely wanted to amp up some of the horror, especially knowing the storylines we were going into with the whispers and you know I wanted to like really build up some of the character relationships.

[00:12:21] You know when we were in the all out war storyline, it's a storyline about all out war and so I think some of the relationships like people were so spread out and not in each other stories that you know there were certain pairings that I wanted to explore that were brand new

[00:12:39] and then other ones like classics like Daryl and Carol that I just wanted to give a little more love so I don't know I guess those were my broad goals and then just not messing the whole situation up.

[00:12:50] I guess a goal.

[00:12:51] I mean have you been in touch with the feedback from the fans and the critics and everything like you must know that you succeeded.

[00:13:00] I try not to be on social media too much and read too many comments but you know I've gotten some really kind comments from people obviously and then you know fans who come and interact at things like Comic Con which we're doing virtually this year.

[00:13:16] And you know there's a certain number of critics who have kind of gotten to know because they're sort of the first ones to ask questions and you know they don't shy away from kind of asking hard hitting questions but they're also like very kind and flattering when when they like the episodes and so that's been it's been really cool to hear that it's connected with a lot of people.

[00:13:36] Yeah I don't want to stick on this point too much but I just it just occurred to me.

[00:13:40] I want to know if you knew that I think on Rotten Tomatoes season season nine or 10 has the highest rating of any of the seasons did you know that.

[00:13:49] I did know that because somebody texted it to me pretty cool shot and sent it to me and I was like that's awesome.

[00:13:57] I wouldn't have thought to look for it but yeah somebody did something right.

[00:14:01] Well let's see what else I feel like you maybe more than ever and it makes sense because Walking Dead has been so long on so long but now it's kind of playing with our expectations.

[00:14:11] You've kind of trained us to expect certain things and now you can kind of play with that and misdirect and especially thought that with with Dante and I just wonder if that's part of what you're doing just kind of teasing the viewer and then taking a left turn and stuff like that.

[00:14:27] I you know like I don't ever want to tease the viewer in a way that's like annoying or obnoxious.

[00:14:34] It's like when there's stories though that twist and turn when I think back on a lot of my favorite movies and TV shows that have that kind of thriller aspect where you think you're following one story and then like your hit with like this really amazing twist like.

[00:14:50] Yeah like that's the kind of story that I really respond to and so with the Dante story we weren't even sure we were going to introduce that character.

[00:14:59] We have so many series regulars on the show and we're like oh we've got to like kind of give our due to all these characters but we were trying to construct something that felt like a Cold War story in the apocalypse.

[00:15:10] So it's a weird mashup of like horror but also like this Cold War thriller and we're like well one of the things is like embedded spies like how do you even do that story without people like totally like being on to us from the first second.

[00:15:25] And we had been on a separate track talking about Dante and do we introduce Dante and how and when.

[00:15:32] And so then at some point we were like well what if we do the spy story but we also introduced Dante and then it might hide the ball a little bit.

[00:15:42] Absolutely.

[00:15:43] It definitely did not come out of like aha let's like find a tricky way to trick the viewers we just were talking about these two things and sometimes they marry in a way that that works out and so we're like you know what that seems like a good.

[00:15:56] Thing to try and then when I pitched it to our producers on our network like you know we're using that as a trial balloon.

[00:16:02] Because it's like a lot of times their reactions when stuff surprises them and delights them like that it actually tracks pretty well with how the audience tends to react like.

[00:16:13] We never know but it's like we need that kind of like a little bit of some some people outside of the story feedback and everybody was like wow we did not see that coming with Dante that's super cool and so we're like OK fingers crossed like hopefully this connects for viewers to.

[00:16:27] It did I was totally delighted and mind blown because I'm a big comic reader and I think even people who aren't probably go on and look for spoilers so it was a total misdirected landed way harder because we weren't expecting it so it was great.

[00:16:41] So let's see I was really really looking as a comic reader looking forward to the whispers but I also was not sure how well they transferred to the screen because they seem so made for the comic but it turns out that I think they transferred even better than I hoped and I wonder if you were concerned like oh is this going to really

[00:16:59] transfer over or were you pretty confident that it would work.

[00:17:03] You know what I think I was both because I love the whispers storyline in the comic I just think like you know my my experience reading the comics was always like well the governor was that storyline was perfect can't top itself.

[00:17:18] It's not an encouragement comes in it's like oh yeah well here's some neat and it's like well that was perfect can't really top it and then it's like or what if the walkers started talking and then you know he created the whispers and so I was really excited to work on it but it's also daunting and I think.

[00:17:36] You know one of the things where the mediums are different which is kind of what you're hinting at is that like it's really easy on paper I'm not gonna say it's easy because actually like it's a lot of work and masterful storytelling on Kirkman's part.

[00:17:49] But it's just it's different because like it reads differently like you don't have to worry about like what the masks actually look like or like any of that part and then when it's like okay now we have to make this three dimensional.

[00:18:01] We were in conversations about how do we make this scary and not look like silly like people just wearing like you know crazy math and so that's where we're really lucky that Greg Nicotero and his group like first of all like design these terrifying masks.

[00:18:14] But you know from our storytelling side we were like okay well we have to spend more screen time with them than the reader spends in reading time in the comics like who are these people why have they adopted this philosophy.

[00:18:28] Like what is the relationships within the community.

[00:18:34] You know just taking all the things that are laid out in the comic book and trying to flesh it out and I think one of the first big questions that the room kind of kept circling around was like why on earth would you join this this group if we don't understand like why then you can't buy into any of the rest of it you know it's like because it's.

[00:18:54] I mean it's just when you hear on the surface of it okay like.

[00:18:58] There's still houses and buildings around but your choice is to put on the skins of dead people and walk around in the woods and like eat worms and things like that that sounds terrible you know.

[00:19:09] And you can't talk loud.

[00:19:11] You can't talk loud and we're like why would anybody do that but we were like okay well what is like that in the world and we're like well there's cults and the people who join cults like really really believe.

[00:19:22] The things of the cult even if it's kind of like a niche view but you have to believe there's something about the philosophy that solving a problem for you are speaking to something that you need in your soul.

[00:19:34] Or what or the leader is so charismatic that you'll just follow them to the ends of the earth so I think in that way as we do with all stories we tried to ground it first in like well why.

[00:19:45] I like what is it about this person alpha that's so appealing as a leader and as a you know and as a person and like how is it that these people like will follow her in anything that she's doing.

[00:19:58] And you know what are the challenges she faces and I think in that way like once we started to kind of crack that I was like I think that this will hopefully wind up compelling but you know we knew that we had to cast two amazing people to play these roles.

[00:20:13] And so you know we're really fortunate to get Samantha Morton and Ryan Hurst because they're so they're just so riveting and so that's when I started to really feel like okay we have a shot that this is going to come together.

[00:20:24] Like I think we've got the story elements I think we've got the costumes and now we've got the people who are going to bring them to life absolutely.

[00:20:31] I mean yeah way to go casting Samantha Morton because she really does without even having to say anything project that aura that you could see people who are looking for something just gravitating to and wanting to follow.

[00:20:43] Yeah she I mean I've been such a fan of her for so long and it was such a I don't know it's just one of those moments when I was like and do I really get to work with her.

[00:20:53] I'm writing for her and Thorough Birch to who came on at Gamma.

[00:20:56] Gamma is one of my favorites.

[00:20:59] Yeah I love that also Ghost World is one of my favorites and I was just like this is so many of my I don't know dreams come true at once.

[00:21:08] You know another thing that surprised me about the whispers and maybe I should have realized this but it actually feels you almost get the appeal like oh maybe our people should start making some zombie skins because it's like they have a superpower being able to just mix in and not worry about it you know.

[00:21:22] Yeah I think that's one of the things that we talked about that's really interesting it's like well our people put on blood cover sometimes but not all the time because you know we kind of established in the show that like there's the risk of infection like what happened with Gabriel's eye.

[00:21:36] It's also like really gross and you know they don't always do it but it's like yeah like they are able to slip around in the world and there's sort of a freedom to being able to like go outside and not have to worry about being attacked.

[00:21:52] You know I've been thinking about this as we've all been kind of in lockdowns during covid just the way that people got so stir crazy like just feeling like you're kind of in your house and only able to go to like a few places has been really hard for people.

[00:22:08] And I think the part of the whisper philosophy that I find the most interesting is that you know for Lydia the person who grew up in it she's like you know her attitude is kind of like well like it's the only thing I really knew in all of this but it meant that I got to sleep under the stars and I got to roam around the world freely and if it meant that I'd give up certain other things like that's just kind of what we did and that's what they adopted and I guess like it's

[00:22:38] it's that way where you decide like what are the tradeoffs that you're willing to accept and for our people they were like we would rather be safe behind walls and have some degree of normalcy.

[00:22:48] And the whispers are like there's no such thing as normal anymore we're just going to throw it out and start over and you know adapt to the world yeah adapt to what the world is now so.

[00:22:59] Like might I have a three year old and when he goes outside now he's like I want to mask because he just wants to be like everyone else so this is his normal.

[00:23:08] Yeah absolutely.

[00:23:10] You mentioned the pandemic you know how you've been thinking about I wondered if the pandemic has I know you guys are working on season 11 do you feel like that might change how the show goes you know maybe it would have gone differently if it wasn't for the pandemic.

[00:23:26] Yes and no I mean the thing is like we've been writing a show about a pandemic over a decade so like in some ways it's it's like the same kind of stories but we are doing some episodes that you know are going to be a little bit more just friendly to film and produce.

[00:23:50] So in that way I think we're affected as are like all shows you know so but I don't know in terms of the storytelling we were already deep into working on our season at the time that things started to shut down and so we're kind of just moving ahead with it but.

[00:24:08] I do find that like one thing that I am creating myself in the middle of all this is just like I hang on to anything that's a little like hopeful and bright and not just you know relentlessly dark like me as a viewer of other entertain.

[00:24:24] And so that I think that's just something that I find that like my writers and I have been thinking about is like in the midst of things that are dark like where are the moments of light but I think that that's also always been part of the ethos of the show you know it's not.

[00:24:38] I mean it hasn't you mentioned before I mean I mentioned I like that it's scary but you also talked about how you have scenes that have air and I just love it when it's dynamic like that and you take times to do different things.

[00:24:51] But and I also think that since you've started there's been a more even more emphasis on some of the lighter things especially like romance you know I think that makes sense probably early on in an apocalypse you don't have that much time to try to hook up or anything but once you sort of get into that.

[00:25:07] You know you start establishing civilization and then looking around about OK what I want my life to be romance comes back in and I wonder if you were kind of excited to bring more of that to the show.

[00:25:17] Yeah I mean I think I really try to think of it in terms of like what makes sense to me for human behavior and it's like when you're just on the run and all you're focused on is survival that's in front of you then.

[00:25:30] There's not going to there's not that much room for romance it still happens but it's just like your body is flooded with stress hormones and all you can think about is like what's that around the corner.

[00:25:42] But you know there's a reason why there tends to be baby booms in the aftermath of a war and so we so I mean we literally talked about it that way we were like OK like they went through this giant war with the saviors and they're in the rebuilding period and like what happens like historically like in times like that and we're like well.

[00:25:59] Like one of the things that happens is like people start to like feel like wow like life really and truly a short we have this little bit of safety like they start looking like inwards and towards like building relationships with people and starting families or like you're really focusing on the families they have

[00:26:17] and so I think like in that way it wasn't really like from my side like I think of like I will bring more romance into the show.

[00:26:24] It came out like thinking about like what do you do like that's that's the natural evolution of a society.

[00:26:30] Do you have a favorite coupling.

[00:26:32] I can't say that.

[00:26:35] I guess that makes sense.

[00:26:37] I'll get in trouble for somebody.

[00:26:39] There's one thing I want to make sure and touch on with you.

[00:26:44] I'm hoping you can settle an argument between me and my co-host.

[00:26:48] You know we I'm not going to tell you who thought well I guess I have to but we cover every episode and and you know I mentioned I'm a comic reader in the comic.

[00:26:57] Negan goes to the whispers he's infiltrating and as soon as he gets close enough to alpha he cuts off her head I think he's only there for a day or two in the show.

[00:27:08] I felt like that was his intention but then he started to get sucked in and he was actually really impressed with alpha.

[00:27:15] He said multiple times he admires her and likes her and so I think that he was tempted to either join them or at least spare her life and only when she you know started lobbing fireballs at hilltop and then he set up a test for her to see if she would kill her daughter

[00:27:32] and she failed that test that was when he decided he had to go through with his original plan but I feel like he wavered in there.

[00:27:39] Yes that's correct.

[00:27:41] That's how that was our intention.

[00:27:43] I think like it came out of like you know that the story in the comic where he goes and he cuts off her head it's so iconic and we were like okay well we have to get to this moment although of course we went down a lot of paths like do we do something different like you know but that's just like kind of

[00:28:02] part of our process we're like no no this is sort of one of those moments that you have to kind of do but we still have to build to it a different way and I think the way that we thought about it on the show was alpha is a really really smart leader.

[00:28:16] Negan is also really smart if he just goes in there there's no way in hell he's going to get that close to her like in the show that fast.

[00:28:27] It just I don't think like in the way that the characters are playing it that it's going to work like you have to buy that he really truly infiltrates and kind of like works his way towards like you know gaining her trust.

[00:28:43] But you know from Negan side we talked about in the show we've shown that he is really like.

[00:28:50] He admires people who are strong and opinionated and he really has an admiration for women that are just sort of like go their own way.

[00:29:01] And whether that psychology has to do with his wife Lucille or whatever it is like we've shown kind of over and over like he tries to win over those people that he's like wow like you kind of you have.

[00:29:17] You know I mean he was always about talking about strength to like I want to make strong and yeah.

[00:29:22] Yeah I want to make people strong and so we were like OK like if we think about it alpha is exactly the kind of woman that he would be really intrigued by and that he would respect and that even if he thinks that there's certain things that she does that he wouldn't do himself.

[00:29:37] She's exactly the type of person that he's drawn to and would want to like team up with because we saw him doing that with our people like to almost a detriment of himself at times.

[00:29:48] And so we were like OK well that seems like an interesting story to tell so then like what happens when you put those two into a situation and we were like we think that they would have a mutual fascination with each other like that makes sense to us and that also kind of plays into the cold war story we're trying to play.

[00:30:05] Like a defector.

[00:30:07] Yeah like a defector but in those kinds of stories to like you know they're it's hard to stay on mission when like you're embedded with with the other people and you're kind of seeing the humanized version of them and there's vulnerability there and it's all of a sudden not like just this faceless.

[00:30:27] Enemy that's you know like oh my god like they are our enemy in every way like what he sees as a person who like.

[00:30:34] You know cares about her child and you know worries about the safety of her people and it's deeply flawed and you know maybe she goes about things in a way that he doesn't necessarily agree with all the time but there's a lot that he's he's kind of drawn to and the truth is like our people.

[00:30:52] Like decimated his communities put him in a jail for many years like we're about to kill him yeah we're about to kill him and so he's kind of like I don't know like I kind of get it I kind of get why she's mad but you know me like me.

[00:31:06] He has a red line and like for him like he does not he's not into the death of like children you know we know that he actually cares about children and and so like when alpha starts being about like.

[00:31:21] I think I have to kill my daughter like that's just too much for him and like when she attacks hilltop without any regard for.

[00:31:29] Any of the lives within there like it just it starts to get under his skin and he's back on mission again you know but.

[00:31:37] So I mean let's say she had thank you that makes me feel very good when she when you know let's say she had said okay I like your plan of trying to bring the hilltoppers into the whispers and you know she didn't want to kill any children then could he have ever joined the whispers that was the one thing where I don't know if I could ever see me and living that lifestyle for the long term.

[00:32:01] No I don't think he could for the long term I you know I think needn't gets very put out by like the discomfort of the.

[00:32:08] Where is like you know one of my favorite things in the the comic it's like anytime like guns start firing his his direction he's just kind of like swearing up a storm and is just sort of like irritated by the whole scenario you know like he has his strong man authoritarian tendencies but he kind of like he ultimately wants to live in comfort you know.

[00:32:30] He wants to have like nice stuff and like a nice house and being out there in the world like digging out dirt digging through dirt and walking around with like dead people is not really his bag so I think if.

[00:32:45] I mean this is all just the what if like clearly this is not the way the story goes but in the like I don't know in the multiverse version of it.

[00:32:51] Like if she hadn't done that with hilltop if she had been like you're right I need to make amends with my daughter and not try to kill her.

[00:33:00] I think he would have tried to bring her to his side and then like tried to like bring her in in the same way that he was like look I'm a redeemable person.

[00:33:12] They they should let me into their fold like maybe they should let you in too like if you'll just change or like at least show enough that you can like play ball that it'll it'll work.

[00:33:25] I don't know if you can answer this but I have a feeling that you asked your actors what they would like to do when you started as showrunner because I know that Norman Reedus had been talking about Darrell having a dog for a while and then dog shows up so I was wondering if you did approach them and.

[00:33:41] And how that went and maybe if you could give me some examples of how those talks affected things if they happened.

[00:33:48] Sure I mean yeah like I talked to all the actors at the beginning of each season as the showrunners before me have done and as I learned to do on a.

[00:33:57] Preview show with Sean Ryan he does this with all his cast but it's like you don't really like take.

[00:34:04] Specific story ideas although sometimes some get thrown out your way it's more like well you know where is your character at like what are some thoughts that you've been having about like what like what your character is feeling and like.

[00:34:17] You know I do ask like who are people that you haven't like worked within the cast so much that you're interested in working with or like what is you know.

[00:34:25] Just anything like on your mind and so those conversations are really interesting for me.

[00:34:32] In terms of the dog that I've been something being kicked around in the room since season two with the writers so I was always on team Darrell should have a dog like separate track from Norman so he and I had talked about it over the years and I was like yeah time to get him a dog but.

[00:34:48] But it was just one of those examples where it's like the writers desires and Darrell's you know Norman's desires kind of lined up really well.

[00:34:58] I think some other interesting ideas is like you know.

[00:35:02] I don't know like Ryan Hurst with beta because we were sort of constructing this character from an amalgam of the comic plus you know original ideas he had some interesting ideas about like.

[00:35:14] You know like maybe the mask came from the face of somebody he knew and he had kind of come up with this chant.

[00:35:22] That he was using to get into character and we were like let's steal a piece of that and then my writer who wrote some of his material like filled it out into that whole mantra that you hear at various points in the season.

[00:35:34] But you know sometimes we get things like that from the actors or you know like deny likes to really talk a lot of things through and sometimes you got like interesting ideas from about scenes but.

[00:35:44] You know it's like it's really like our responsibility as the writers is to kind of is to provide that blueprint but we always find that like the conversations with actors sometimes give you like interesting or surprising insights that you might not have.

[00:35:58] Have thought about you know like that's great set Gilliam had like had things about his backstory as Father Gabriel that we were like ha that's interesting like let's let's work that dynamic into the way he has relationships and things like that so.

[00:36:13] The bit yeah the chant I read about that and I think that worked so well and you just reminded me like beta was so great this season and I especially loved a the whole episode where he's basically Michael Myers stocking his way through Alexandria.

[00:36:28] But also in the end when he starts going super nutty and here's the other walkers talking that was so thrilling and I don't know I just what did you how did you feel when you saw that.

[00:36:40] Like the product it was super cool super super cool my writer Jim Barnes who wrote the Michael Myers in Alexandria episode like he pitched a version of that really early on like.

[00:36:53] And it was literally pitched like that it's like you know you do Halloween in Alexandria we're like how do we make that work and then you know we cracked it at a certain point and it just felt like the right time of the season to do a little

[00:37:04] horror movie around beta you know because it was the time when we needed it Alfa's end was nice so we had to kind of build him up.

[00:37:12] I love when he like killed so many people and then he's sitting there meditating waiting for them to come back to life so they can be as minions.

[00:37:20] Yeah yeah it was cool it was really cool how that all came together.

[00:37:25] Yeah I'm Chris Farley now I'm just like remember when that happened.

[00:37:28] It was so awesome.

[00:37:30] Yeah.

[00:37:32] Okay a couple more questions I want to know you mentioned Kirkman keep kept coming up with amazing things in the comic and then suddenly just ended like how did that land for you you must have been like what.

[00:37:42] Yeah I was like what are you talking about.

[00:37:44] I know what but I think here's what I'll say like Kirkman does things on Kirkman's own terms which is amazing and I think like it was sort of like the ultimate twist is like you all assume he was working towards a gigantic issue 200 and he was like

[00:38:03] Nope not that and that was a twist in and of itself but he was also like super generous and was like hey like do you notice how I laid in all these stories in there that you guys can use for the future.

[00:38:18] So if the show goes on or like if you want to use it in the season like whatever like here's there's stuff out in the West here's stuff about Herschel like so you know it's awesome like he's amazing like you couldn't ask for a better creator to work with like doing an adaptation he's just he's very generous with us so it's all cool you know.

[00:38:39] You weren't mad.

[00:38:41] I'm mad like I can't believe you didn't go to 200.

[00:38:46] Well he did end it right at the compendium so that that has a feeling of nice to it I guess.

[00:38:52] Okay now we have just a couple comments from listeners that I like to get in.

[00:38:57] Beth Nichols Morrison says tell her thanks for energizing the show again and putting so many strong female lead characters front and center.

[00:39:04] Oh thank you that's awesome.

[00:39:07] Derek O'Neill says how did she approach it when she had to make her first death call to one of the actors not returning to the series.

[00:39:16] I think my first death call might have been for Xander Berkeley as a great because he was if you'll remember he died in the first episode in season nine when Maggie hangs him and.

[00:39:35] I approached it as like I was filled with dread because I you know like these are all our colleagues and it's not fun to tell them that they will be written out like it sucks but it's part of like what the show is like it's dead is in the title is the thing that I say sometimes like because it's you know it's about.

[00:40:01] That revival and people come and go unfortunately and so I don't know I approached it just kind of like I girded myself for a horrible call and then Xander was super professional you know like he's a he's a professional.

[00:40:16] He's a professional guy so it was a it was not like a pleasant call I think for either side in terms of the content of the call but you know he was he took it as well as I think you could and he did a great job for us so yeah that's how I approached it.

[00:40:33] And just let me say like I know that kind of thing must be super hard but I as a fan respect that this show has kept doing that you know one of the reasons why we love the shows because we don't know who's going to live or die and it's thrilling and I would hate for you to compromise that just because you don't want to hurt one of the actors feelings or something you know or so thank you.

[00:40:53] Yeah it's hard yeah it's just about like no there's characters with lots of story yet to tell and there's characters that have to go but it's it's the it's the hardest and worst part of the.

[00:41:06] It's having to make those calls.

[00:41:09] I know we're past time so I'll just say Brandon Udstrom is saying you know I want you to know you're doing a hell of a job and you definitely reinvigorated the show.

[00:41:17] Mary Morty Punch says to tell you how much better the show is with you and then just on and on but then one more person Jennifer Rain lock it says where's the finale which I am guessing we're going to find out in a few days here at Comic Con but I know you probably can't say right.

[00:41:32] Yeah so first of all thank you to everybody with their really sweet comments it's so it's just so nice you know it's really I really appreciate it and then in terms of Comic Con yeah we're doing an announcement for the finale.

[00:41:45] And so I can't stay here but please.

[00:41:49] We'll know soon.

[00:41:50] Yeah like it was we were working on it we're trying to finish post on it when the state shut down and literally we could not get into the buildings it was required to finish the work like it's it's not you know I know for some people it's like why couldn't you finish it it's like I mean we

[00:42:07] literally had to go to a soundstage that we were not allowed to go to because it was shut down like we there were machines that needed to work in buildings that where people were not allowed to work and those machines couldn't be moved I mean these

[00:42:20] we're talking about like giant machines because the shutdown happened fast so you know it was it was a taxing time where our post department was scrambling trying to figure out how to get it done we were like do we have are there people in Europe or somewhere

[00:42:34] that's not shut down they can handle the work and it just was impossible so thanks to everyone for your patience I mean it's actually been nice to have this little last thing to look forward to you know like if it had already come out then we wouldn't have it so it's been nice in that way.

[00:42:49] Yeah hopefully full joy.

[00:42:53] Yeah I'm sure thanks so much Angela it was a blast talking to you it was great love to hear from you.

[00:42:58] Yeah great talking to you too thanks for having me.

[00:43:01] Take care.

[00:43:03] See you later bye.

[00:43:17] Okay we're back and we're gonna as I mentioned at the top of the podcast we're gonna now just talk about you know highlights of the 10 years of the walking dead cast this is going to be more about experiences with the podcast I think then about the show The Walking Dead because it's our 10 year anniversary.

[00:43:34] I think it would be fun to do like top five highlights of the walking dead at some point if we want to do that Lucy but for now what what stood out to you guys when you started thinking about the history of the podcast and all that.

[00:43:48] Getting week after week getting to laugh with you Jason that's to me it's the best it's the best part it's the best part of taking a show that's pretty dark week after week and.

[00:44:04] Finding things about it we can laugh about I mean not laugh at the show but we can find things that are fun to talk about and make fun of each other's opinions and.

[00:44:16] And just have a good time with it and that's the best part the best part is we've always had a really good time with this incredibly dark show we've always really enjoyed it and enjoyed each other's.

[00:44:29] Company for the hour hour plus that we spend making the podcast.

[00:44:36] I couldn't agree more that's like when we started this I said.

[00:44:41] I want it to be fun and I want to be good and and it's so fun and I think it actually fits really well because sometimes people watching the show are like.

[00:44:53] Fuck man that was such a bummer or my favorite character just died or it's so dark and it's a great counterpoint to have two goofballs come on and just giggle through the whole.

[00:45:04] Right exactly.

[00:45:06] Exactly I mean for whoever didn't like that left and went and listened to another podcast I'm sure but.

[00:45:12] Yeah like that's what drove me to want to keep doing it is just because I have so much fun and I love that we have a structure you know the top five but we don't know what each other is going to say and that goes for you to Lucy and anyone else that I've co-hosted with that.

[00:45:27] That makes room for spontaneity in the moment which is what what I love when we say something funny or even something really insightful that we hadn't thought of before right in the middle of the podcast it just like totally lights me up you know so yeah it's totally fun.

[00:45:43] It is something that other people that you didn't see yourself as always a real joy is like getting someone else's perspective or even just like a detail that you've missed or a reference I always find that really really rewarding is to bounce off someone else who cares as much as you do and watch as as closely as you do that's like how many times have you been the person at the party where you started talking really intensely about something and the other person is like oh no no no no no.

[00:46:13] I'm not as interested in this as you are and I regret this conversation it's so nice to be able to come into the space and just nerd out like you never feel that you're overdoing it or overly obsessed with something it's just a space to really talk about something that we all have a lot of love for and that's so special you know so much has changed in the world in ten years like Jason you've got two kids now.

[00:46:39] At the start of the podcast and it's nice to have that just that space to really be yourself and just talk about something that you want to geek out about I think that's so special and something that's really a gift of the podcast is that space.

[00:46:54] Absolutely and what goes along with that is the community aspect of it and I mean we really modeled our podcast largely after the lost podcast with J and Jack and that Karen and I were both really into that podcast and into lost and they so they had a recap segment which we turned into our top five because we didn't want to just tell you exactly what happened in the episode but it's so

[00:47:24] similar idea and then they had they always had listener feedback and I'm like well I guess we need to do that too but that really became a highlight for me because it brought in new perspectives and new people and and interesting ideas and and and I also love that I don't need to agree with everyone and I've learned more and more as I go along that it's it's totally okay to disagree but also but to you know.

[00:47:49] Respect other people's opinions and even to allow yourself to be swayed but it but that sort of side the point I mean it's just been fun to be exposed to all these different people and some of them who have become a big part of the podcast and others who just dip in every you know you hear from somebody every once in a while over the years and that's just.

[00:48:13] I don't know that's been a definite highlight of the podcast.

[00:48:16] I feel like my opinion gets changed to speaking of having an open mind about things and and listening to what other people's take on things.

[00:48:25] I usually change my mind about how much I like or dislike the episode based on at the you know changes from the beginning of the time I record the podcast to the very end I'm like you know we say it all the times.

[00:48:38] Jason you're like well now do you like a little bit more I'm like yeah I do actually I've changed my mind I like it more it's so funny how that works.

[00:48:46] It is I mean I have the same experience all the time and the one exception which is probably more to do with mine and Lucy's approach than anything is when fear the walking dead just started to go south for us and I know some of you guys out there still like it but.

[00:49:03] We just were like I don't think I don't know man and I said do you guys still want us to cover this even though we're not lacking everybody said yes so we did but then we felt like we had permission to just really just dig into it.

[00:49:15] And it was pretty fun and it was almost like do you hate the episode even more now yeah totally.

[00:49:22] I had to suggest and when you asked us to think about our memories one of my favorite memories was just like losing our minds.

[00:49:30] I think it was humbug's Gulch the episode where Dwight got introduced and I think I just went hysterical at one point because there was this whole sub plot point but like then there's a car registration in the wrong car but it's from out of state and then we just

[00:49:45] like what is even happening and then someone shot a bullet at an axe that split in half and killed two zombies on either side or something.

[00:49:54] What I think there was I think that might have been the source of my quote of like well I think in the writers room they just threw shit at the wall and decided that that was the plot for this season.

[00:50:05] I've really gone down the rabbit hole but it was so liberating to be able to talk shit about it.

[00:50:13] But on the other hand you know over time it wasn't as gratifying to me it was fun but we ultimately decided we're not liking this so we would rather not cover every episode so that's what our plan is going forward that we'll just cover you know the midseason finale and then the final episode.

[00:50:34] But now I the right now there's walking dead panels going on at Comic Con at home just right now as we speak and the fear of the walking dead one was earlier today and then they put out the trailer and I watched it and I'm like dude looks awesome and it's like totally dark.

[00:50:52] Dark right.

[00:50:54] And I'm like oh my God should I I'm rethinking my position on whether we cover every episode and then I put a little gift in there of Charlie Brown trying to kick that football away from Lucy.

[00:51:07] I feel like we're in like a bad relationship with they weren't so bad they were fine and our friends are like no don't go back to them and we're like I'll never change.

[00:51:17] They look so good.

[00:51:19] This time it's going to be different he promised me he's going to change.

[00:51:23] Literally this.

[00:51:26] So do they have a new show runner.

[00:51:29] They yeah so they had the original show runner and he had a bit of a rocky start uneven but in my opinion got really good and but by the time he was good they had already decided to replace him and so they brought in these two guys who had worked on once upon a time and it felt like they were trying to bring their hopeful positive fairy tale spin to the walking dead universe

[00:51:53] those two just did not marry well together.

[00:51:57] They really did and they brought Morgan over and Dwight to.

[00:52:01] Are they sticking around the fair tale at the once upon a time guys trying to find that they are sticking around aren't they yeah you know I mean here's me being like.

[00:52:13] Battered wife but I'm like maybe they learn their lesson and they're gonna make it super dark.

[00:52:18] Oh yeah they definitely have changed everything sure.

[00:52:23] It'll it'll all be fine it's like it won't be fine.

[00:52:27] Dickens won't come back.

[00:52:29] Speaking of how much fun we had on the podcast and continue to have I'm going to get into some clips now here's an iconic moment that took on a life of its own on this podcast this is a clip from episode 79 way back in November.

[00:52:42] Of 2012 and it was after the episode that Lori died giving birth which is super like that still feels like one of the most emotional moments in the show to me.

[00:52:52] And it was also when T-Doc died saving Carol from the Zeds in the prison so here's part of our listener feedback section for that episode.

[00:53:03] So like I said we got tons of emails this week and so I really pared them down there still a whole bunch.

[00:53:09] If you I couldn't include them all and so if yours didn't make it sorry probably it's because someone else said something similar but try again next week.

[00:53:21] So let's go.

[00:53:23] Okay well you you gave me this one because you.

[00:53:28] It's from Kevin.

[00:53:30] If I'm Kevin Kevin writes.

[00:53:32] Man that T-Bog fuck.

[00:53:34] There I do right.

[00:53:36] Another sound clip.

[00:53:40] I thought that was very well said.

[00:53:44] Really apologize.

[00:53:46] Really apologized.

[00:53:48] The thing is and I I I don't know it depends on your response I guess but after that I did tend to play this a lot.

[00:53:57] Fuck fuck fuck fuck man that T-Bog fuck.

[00:54:01] I think I played it so much that everyone just thought that was you saying that they didn't remember that it was you reading an email that I forced you to read and so whenever they would write into Karen they'd be like hey Karen fucking fuck fuck.

[00:54:16] I'm glad you cleared that out.

[00:54:19] It was an email I thought it was Karen.

[00:54:21] Right.

[00:54:23] Mythbusters.

[00:54:24] The origin story.

[00:54:30] The origins of.

[00:54:35] Wow it seems like a long time ago.

[00:54:37] Eight years ago.

[00:54:39] Dang.

[00:54:41] Yeah.

[00:54:43] You guys sound younger.

[00:54:45] I don't know how that's because like you know it's not like you sound like your toddler is there anything but it's funny to listen to people's voices from years ago.

[00:54:52] It just sounds so different.

[00:54:55] Voices change.

[00:54:57] It's weird it's kind of creepy to and I never listen to the podcast.

[00:55:02] I mean Jason will tell you I never listened to the podcast unless I'm not on the podcast in which case I will listen to the podcast but I hate listening to my own voice.

[00:55:10] It just it makes my skin crawl.

[00:55:12] Jason is OK about it.

[00:55:15] I think after all these years and after editing for so many years you're all right about it right.

[00:55:22] Yeah I mean when we first recorded our first episode and I went back and listen I was like what the hell.

[00:55:30] Like a dope.

[00:55:32] And then.

[00:55:34] And then I just got used to it and I remember if I would give myself a few days after recording to go back and listen sometimes I would forget what we said and I would just start feeling like I was a fan listening and I was enjoying it and I thought that was a good sign so I don't know I guess I just got used to hearing my voice.

[00:55:52] Yeah you're pro man.

[00:55:55] I actually don't mind listening to myself I find it OK really interesting in the last year because I've noticed my voice changing a little bit because we're in Canada now so it's just like little things because I keep thinking has my accent changed because I don't think it has changed too much but there are some little things that when I listen I'm like oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that's changed a bit that's changed about.

[00:56:19] That's interesting give me an example.

[00:56:21] If we're in public I think my T's turn to D's sometimes so I'll say like Peter instead of Peter which is probably the most common one and little instead of little and it's just just things like that.

[00:56:36] I'm noticing more now I'm like oh I'm turning into a Canadian.

[00:56:40] There are worse things to happen there are worse things to happen to you.

[00:56:45] I wouldn't mind.

[00:56:46] I wouldn't mind.

[00:56:48] I mean to think about all the time so here's this is going way back this is the first call from one of our listeners who ended up kind of being a big part of the podcast it's from episode 180 in April of 2015.

[00:57:04] Hi Karen and Jason.

[00:57:05] I'm not sure where to start I just want to tell you that I want to thank you for your fucking brilliant podcast and put it plainly I've got a bit of a weird life where I spent half my time as a graduate student studying medieval things and the other half working in sales management.

[00:57:25] Low point of every week here in Scotland is the dreary Wednesday bus journey from my home in Glasgow to my university in Edinburgh.

[00:57:33] It's these three hours of my life that I really don't get back but since I discovered your podcast I actually look forward to these hours because it's walker time.

[00:57:42] Oh yes my real passion is zombies.

[00:57:45] Believe me I've dabbled in many a walking dead podcast and I mean it when I say yours is fantastic it's the right amount of goofy witty and sysive

[00:57:52] and I just want to sit and pick your brains after every episode.

[00:57:57] I love that you have such different views on each episode and how well you defend them to each other.

[00:58:01] To put it bluntly I've had a bit of a crappy start to the year this year and your podcast has actually been a real source of solace and entertainment.

[00:58:08] I'm pretty gutted that it's the end of season 5 and I'm also gutted that Walker Stocker Con is never coming over here in the UK.

[00:58:15] If you ever make it to Scotland hit up Glasgow and we can explore the best real life zombie sounds in the city nightlife.

[00:58:20] It will chill you.

[00:58:22] Anyway I'm going to try my zombie sound here we go.

[00:58:30] Excellent.

[00:58:32] I am crying oh my god that's so good timing you're like oh yeah I don't mind hearing my voice and then I start playing.

[00:58:37] I'm so little oh bless little Lucy so much so much ahead of you that I mean that was like literally the worst year like I think in the first four months of that year.

[00:58:54] My grandma died my dad got cancer we got thrown out of our flat it was literally like I can laugh about it now because like my dad's fine and we survived but oh my god yeah that was so good.

[00:59:07] That was yeah not a good time but I sound so peppy and like happy it's really funny and those bus journeys like I was thinking about them today like in the morning I would listen to a podcast that I didn't like as much so that I could fall asleep on the bus and not care.

[00:59:23] And then in the evening it would be like right I'm going to listen to the podcast I like so I put my little podcast on just as we were coming out of them.

[00:59:32] The bus station in Edinburgh and I'd like rest my head on the glass and just listen to you guys and it was like the nice point of my day was getting to just not do anything and just listen to them.

[00:59:43] I love when people say like oh I was on the bus and I started cracking up and people looked at me funny I like that.

[00:59:51] Yeah lots of snorting and kind of laughing to myself at those times.

[00:59:56] I think if you if you played the rest of that clip you'd probably hear me and Jason fawning all over your voice.

[01:00:05] Yeah I know it I know it.

[01:00:09] I'm like tears on my face right now it's too funny.

[01:00:11] It's too funny.

[01:00:13] So great.

[01:00:15] While I was mentioning just the people involved I started thinking about all the people involved and I was actually kind of amazed at how many people have been involved.

[01:00:25] The co-hosts Melissa and even Duncan who I had a fun time with and Cindy and Jaden who did early comic talk and then Mr. Blog and Grace did it for a while and then Derek and Lucy.

[01:00:37] And then the whole podcasting network with Rima and Sean and Kristen and my friend Rich and Chris from The Talking Dead we all did the Evil Dead cast and Diane and Lizzie on Handmaid's Tale and David on Game of Microphones which is super fun with all of us and then West rolled me and David.

[01:00:55] So and Rima in particular has been a lot a lot of help just behind the scenes with podcastica.

[01:01:00] She does the news for The Walking Dead cast every week which I don't mention a lot but just being really helpful whenever she posts stuff on social media and so anyway so many people put stuff into this and are part of it and that's really cool.

[01:01:17] So many.

[01:01:18] I went back through because I started thinking about it and I was like I must have podcasted with quite a few people now and I went back through and I apologise if I've missed anyone off this list but I had down Karen, Kristen, Anwin, Rima, Emily Reeves from Arizona, Lara, Willi Swink,

[01:01:38] Jake, Megan, Cindy, Jessica Rhodes, Derek, Jason and Chris from The Talking Dead, Melissa Hutch just a few. Just a few of the people that in the last few years we've been able to podcast with.

[01:01:51] It's amazing like to think of all these different people we've been able to kind of have on and to speak with and talk about the show it's so nice and Rima is such a superstar and she's so modest and so

[01:02:05] just there like Rima is just like the girl who is there for you like she's got your back, she's got the news. She keeps us all sane behind the scenes and I just have so much time for her.

[01:02:17] She's great.

[01:02:19] Do you remember recording the Women of Podcastica episode?

[01:02:23] So much fun.

[01:02:25] That was one of my top five.

[01:02:27] Loved it.

[01:02:29] I wanted to be on that one but you guys said no.

[01:02:32] No.

[01:02:34] We told you to go look at the flowers or like look at the flowers Jason and then you went away.

[01:02:39] I was like what if I talk like this?

[01:02:41] Okay, if you do that the entire time.

[01:02:45] If you do that for the whole episode then that's totally fine.

[01:02:48] Totally fine.

[01:02:50] And I also it needs to be mentioned that the the Patreon Zedhead group has been awesome.

[01:02:56] That's only been the last I think three three and a half years but it's like my second home.

[01:03:02] Now you know.

[01:03:04] So great.

[01:03:06] They've just been like a beacon of good spirits and support for people.

[01:03:12] Place where you can go like you say talk about all this stuff and not feel self-conscious if you want to talk about pop culture and stuff like that or yeah whatever if you need support on something.

[01:03:24] And it's a wonderful like vacuum of like we don't talk about politics and stuff like that really it's all just about the stuff that we like and the stuff that we love and that's you know reason debate has a really good place in society and we should all be doing more of it but it is also really lovely to talk to people about the things that keep us together rather than the things that make us different.

[01:03:45] And that's been people are just so respectful with that space and it's lovely.

[01:03:51] It's a really lovely group of folks and yeah I'm really proud to call all of them a friend.

[01:03:56] When I got really really hammered several times in the internet is is a wonderful happy place and also sometimes kind of a cesspool.

[01:04:09] Oh yeah and it really really doesn't like women who laugh that's one thing I've learned is it doesn't like women who does not and I've been I've gotten my fair share of flak and it was always nice knowing that I had such friends who had my back.

[01:04:28] It's nice 100%.

[01:04:31] I think they would not mind the laughing so much if I was actually funny then they would be okay with it.

[01:04:41] It's not so much the laughing it's the fact that nothing is funny.

[01:04:47] I actually think that that's what some people are thinking like why the fuck you laugh at that.

[01:04:52] We find you hilarious.

[01:04:55] You're hysterical.

[01:04:57] Yes.

[01:04:59] Thanks.

[01:05:01] Another thing that I wanted to mention is you know we talked about how we're a nice counterpoint to this dark show but also because it is the serious show is serious themes and it can be dark and you can feel a sense of loss and all that.

[01:05:14] That sometimes we have some pretty heartfelt moments and one of the big moments in the show infamously so is season seven episode one where Negan took care of Abraham and Glenn and I decided to start off that episode a little differently with no theme music or clip or anything just to kind of mark the seriousness of the occasion.

[01:05:39] And I thought that's one thing that sprung up for me when I was trying to think about kind of tentpole moments in the podcast on the show so I'm going to play a clip it's a bit long but I think you guys might find it interesting.

[01:05:50] So here we go.

[01:05:51] That was a rough one.

[01:05:54] We're just jumping right into it.

[01:05:56] What?

[01:05:57] You seem upset.

[01:05:58] Are you upset?

[01:06:00] Oh about the episode?

[01:06:01] No.

[01:06:02] Oh you said it was going to be hard for you today.

[01:06:04] Oh it's going to be hard for me.

[01:06:06] Because it was exactly what you hated.

[01:06:08] We're recording right now.

[01:06:09] Okay.

[01:06:10] This is how we're starting.

[01:06:11] It's weird.

[01:06:12] It's throwing you off.

[01:06:13] It's totally throwing me off.

[01:06:14] No that's okay.

[01:06:15] We can do that.

[01:06:16] Yeah it's going to be hard for me to be honest about it.

[01:06:20] Honest?

[01:06:21] You should just be honest.

[01:06:22] I want you to be totally honest.

[01:06:24] Cool.

[01:06:25] But I'm not going to...

[01:06:26] But be open too as well.

[01:06:27] Of course.

[01:06:29] So the reason why I wanted to start out this way is because Glenn's dead.

[01:06:36] And we saw the humiliation and breaking down of these characters that we care about.

[01:06:43] And I wanted to kind of not joke around about it.

[01:06:48] Like I told you a second ago I had this idea.

[01:06:50] I have a clip of Karen saying, yeah Glenn's dead.

[01:06:52] I was going to say...

[01:06:53] I was kidding.

[01:06:54] It was I think you were even saying...

[01:06:55] I was kidding.

[01:06:56] Yeah it was just a joke but this was from a long time ago by the way.

[01:06:59] I love Glenn.

[01:07:00] When probably during when we knew he wasn't really dead during the dumpster thing.

[01:07:03] Yeah.

[01:07:04] I would play that and then I'm like no this episode calls for a little more seriousness.

[01:07:08] At least off the top.

[01:07:09] Whatever we can do.

[01:07:10] So what I wanted to say is I actually really thought this was an amazing episode.

[01:07:16] We'll get into that but I also it's so horrific and so dark.

[01:07:20] The darkest episode of the series by far in my opinion.

[01:07:24] And I always when I was a kid and my friends would get together and watch Faces of Death.

[01:07:30] Ooh.

[01:07:31] I would not watch it.

[01:07:32] Good.

[01:07:33] I would just go by the room.

[01:07:34] Good.

[01:07:35] And I liked Gore and I liked horror and I don't know there was a certain line and I think

[01:07:40] I just didn't ever want to get desensitized to seeing actual death right?

[01:07:43] Yeah.

[01:07:44] Which this is not.

[01:07:45] This is still a fictitious story but it's just reminding me of that because I'm going

[01:07:50] to go on in this podcast to really appreciate the hell out of this episode but before

[01:07:54] that I just wanted to remind...

[01:07:55] I was thinking about this today.

[01:07:57] I want to spend a little time reminding myself and anyone else to stay appreciative and

[01:08:03] loving and compassionate and open to the beauty of the world.

[01:08:08] And I think it's really easy to see a lot of stuff like this and I don't know have it

[01:08:14] affect you in a way that's where you can get scabbed over to it or something.

[01:08:21] Yeah.

[01:08:22] You know what I mean?

[01:08:23] I do.

[01:08:24] Callus about it.

[01:08:25] And on the other hand, I think when I first decided to open the podcast this way

[01:08:30] I wasn't feeling much about it actually.

[01:08:34] I think part of that was because this happened in the comic a long time ago and I felt like

[01:08:38] I already experienced it.

[01:08:40] Yeah.

[01:08:41] I heard that it happened in episode 100.

[01:08:42] You've told me that.

[01:08:43] Issue 100.

[01:08:44] Sorry.

[01:08:45] Issue 100.

[01:08:46] Yeah.

[01:08:47] And I was fucking pissed at Negan and...

[01:08:48] Were you?

[01:08:49] Fuck yeah.

[01:08:50] Of course.

[01:08:51] Glenn gets his head bit bashed in.

[01:08:52] He's my favorite character.

[01:08:53] I was so mad.

[01:08:54] I wasn't mad at the story or at Kirkman, I was mad at Negan.

[01:08:58] I even kind of knew it was coming.

[01:09:00] But this time I wasn't feeling anything and I felt really bad about that.

[01:09:05] But then as I was watching again today and just writing up notes and stuff and I saw the

[01:09:12] scene with around the kitchen table, the picnic table, I started to sob.

[01:09:18] Why that?

[01:09:19] Well it doesn't hurt that he's also holding a little boy.

[01:09:23] Yes.

[01:09:24] That's what did it.

[01:09:25] It kind of looks like Nico.

[01:09:27] Little half Asian.

[01:09:28] Yep.

[01:09:29] But you know, it just felt really good to feel something.

[01:09:35] And that's one reason why I've always appreciated The Walking Dead in particular because it's

[01:09:41] a zombie movie that never ends and that's fun.

[01:09:43] But we also get to know these characters and then we lose them and then we have

[01:09:47] the chance to grieve without actually really losing someone.

[01:09:51] And I just want people, especially myself, to be open to that, to let yourself grieve

[01:09:56] and don't close yourself off to it.

[01:09:58] That's what I want to do anyway.

[01:10:00] Find a quiet place and really feel it because it actually feels pretty good to get in touch

[01:10:05] with that kind of an emotion.

[01:10:06] Maybe a lot of people don't agree with that, but for me, it's an opening.

[01:10:11] Yeah.

[01:10:12] You know what I mean?

[01:10:13] I'm going to miss him and I want to allow myself to feel that rather than just no

[01:10:20] big deal or whatever.

[01:10:21] Yeah.

[01:10:22] I know what you mean.

[01:10:24] Can I also say that I'm going to miss both Abraham and Glenn?

[01:10:29] You are.

[01:10:30] I am.

[01:10:30] Yeah.

[01:10:31] Even though Abraham's an asshole.

[01:10:33] I was mad at Abraham, but he was always really fun to watch.

[01:10:36] And I didn't always think that he was a jerk.

[01:10:39] He was only, I was only mad because he was a joke to Rosita.

[01:10:43] Espinoza.

[01:10:44] She was very upset, obviously.

[01:10:46] Yeah, she was.

[01:10:47] But I have a special place in my heart for the actor Stephen Yen.

[01:10:52] And I will miss seeing him.

[01:10:55] He is a joy to watch.

[01:10:57] The nice thing is Stephen Yen is not dead.

[01:10:59] Stephen Yen is going to have an amazing career and I know that I can

[01:11:03] watch him in other things.

[01:11:04] So that makes me feel good.

[01:11:04] They say he's going to, I don't know if this is true, but it's a rumor

[01:11:07] that he'll be Nightwing in the Batman movies.

[01:11:10] Cool. All right.

[01:11:11] So there's that.

[01:11:12] Which if you don't know, Nightwing is the former Robin who went on

[01:11:16] to become his own superhero.

[01:11:17] Yeah.

[01:11:18] Batman got a new Robin.

[01:11:20] I don't know if that's true, but I think that'd be pretty awesome.

[01:11:21] That'd be wonderful.

[01:11:22] He's going to have a good career.

[01:11:24] I'm very, very glad for that.

[01:11:27] Stephen Yen was in our lives and that we had him play Glenry.

[01:11:32] And gosh, from everything I've seen in the comics, you know, my limited

[01:11:36] experience with the comics, he was perfect.

[01:11:38] He was the perfect Glen.

[01:11:40] So yay.

[01:11:42] That's it.

[01:11:44] Wow.

[01:11:44] I was just cheesy.

[01:11:47] It is so confusing of what is past Jason and Karen

[01:11:50] and what is real Jason and Karen here.

[01:11:51] Like there was 30 seconds of that where I'm like, should I say something?

[01:11:54] Are they are they talking?

[01:11:57] Or is this?

[01:11:58] Yeah, when you're talking about, no, when you were talking about Nightwing,

[01:12:02] I was like, um, what?

[01:12:07] Hey, what happened to Robert Pattinson?

[01:12:08] What happened to a did he get to be Nightwing?

[01:12:13] No, I guess that was a false rumor.

[01:12:15] But I just kept I played that whole thing because I liked at the end

[01:12:18] where you were talking about how we get to see him in his career.

[01:12:21] And it's true.

[01:12:22] He's been in some great movies since then.

[01:12:24] Yes, yes.

[01:12:25] And he's in an upcoming cartoon that about a Robert Kirkman

[01:12:30] Kirkman comic called Invincible with a bunch of great guests or other people.

[01:12:35] And I'm Kari Kari Patons there.

[01:12:38] Right.

[01:12:38] Stephen Ogger think or yeah, a bunch of yeah.

[01:12:42] Do you know what I loved him in most recently?

[01:12:45] What?

[01:12:45] He was he was a voice in this animated show on Netflix called Tuka and Birdie.

[01:12:52] And he was the boyfriend and he was fan.

[01:12:57] Freaking fantastic.

[01:12:58] So good.

[01:13:00] I love him so freaking much.

[01:13:02] He was also in I want to say, was it called Burning?

[01:13:05] Yeah, that's good.

[01:13:07] Yeah, that movie.

[01:13:07] It was great.

[01:13:09] I like wonderful.

[01:13:10] Is it called Sorry to Bother You?

[01:13:12] Oh, I never saw it.

[01:13:15] I think that's the title of the film.

[01:13:17] It's going it was only a kind of side role.

[01:13:21] Is it called Yes, Sorry to Bother You?

[01:13:24] From Boots Riley, it's such a surreal film, but he plays kind of a sort of side role in it.

[01:13:29] And he's very good.

[01:13:30] He's kind of a bit skeezy in it, which is like no, but he was great.

[01:13:35] He was a little skeevy and burning too.

[01:13:38] Yeah.

[01:13:39] Oh, I was actually going to mention that podcast episode, Jason,

[01:13:43] because that was one of my favorites, because you guys dealt so well with what was

[01:13:47] essentially a really horrible episode emotionally.

[01:13:51] And I remember being really like lifted by the podcast that day

[01:13:55] and listening to the two of you talk about it.

[01:13:58] It was a really nice highlight in the history of the show, I think.

[01:14:02] I'm glad to hear that because I remembered that being.

[01:14:06] I remembered feeling.

[01:14:09] Good about how he handled it, but listening back now, I'm like,

[01:14:12] what a cheese ball shut up, dude.

[01:14:16] But they always think like that, you know, you always feel so earnest at the time.

[01:14:21] But now it's funny because I think I think even in the last couple of weeks,

[01:14:24] there have been a few headlines about like members of the cast saying like,

[01:14:28] yeah, we took it too far or yeah.

[01:14:30] Well, I think one of them was cutlets and I'm like, well, to be fair,

[01:14:33] you know, you did get your head bashed in.

[01:14:35] So yeah.

[01:14:36] Well, but I think he took that in stride at the time.

[01:14:39] But I think everyone kind of realized, well, shit, the viewership went way down

[01:14:43] after that and maybe it was, you know, it didn't even happen like that in the

[01:14:48] comics only Glenn died.

[01:14:49] So he was saying maybe it was just too much for two people.

[01:14:53] And not to pile on, but honestly, that was a turning point for me.

[01:14:58] I know.

[01:14:58] I think you can hear it in my voice.

[01:15:01] I think I kind of disconnected from the whole show after that.

[01:15:06] I it was never the same for me.

[01:15:08] Yeah.

[01:15:09] Here's here's another clip from that same episode.

[01:15:13] Here we go.

[01:15:14] Thank you also for supporting us on Patreon.

[01:15:17] You can check out our campaign at patreon.com slash Jason and Karen.

[01:15:21] We totally appreciate that.

[01:15:22] We have a new goal.

[01:15:24] If you pledge $5,000 a month, Karen will keep doing the podcast.

[01:15:31] Because I kind of sense that that was happening.

[01:15:34] Yes, exactly.

[01:15:36] Exactly.

[01:15:37] That was a real turning point for me.

[01:15:39] I did not forgive the show runners.

[01:15:42] I didn't forgive Kirkman and they you can't it's funny listening to that.

[01:15:48] I thought, wow, you don't sound upset at all.

[01:15:49] And I was so I didn't let all of my upset out because I thought my upset

[01:15:57] was too much for a podcast.

[01:16:00] And so looking back on, I'm like, wow, I really sound weirdly OK.

[01:16:07] And like, no, I was not.

[01:16:09] I was fucking mad.

[01:16:10] I mean, I didn't listen to the rest of the episode, but I know after that

[01:16:15] you were different with your relationship to the show.

[01:16:18] And I think if we listen back, we would have moments like that

[01:16:21] where you expressed it, you know?

[01:16:24] Yeah.

[01:16:24] But you like to try to look on the bright side so that there was

[01:16:27] all that mixed in there too.

[01:16:29] And not like minimizing your relationship with the show at all, Karen,

[01:16:33] but I think that for a lot of people, it was a turning point for the show,

[01:16:36] wasn't it? Because it was just like, how do you come back from that?

[01:16:39] And I think, yeah, the numbers reflect that like the way that I sort of

[01:16:44] view the show now under Angela Kang is almost a new show.

[01:16:47] Like it doesn't feel like it feels like not the same show that did those

[01:16:52] things in season seven.

[01:16:54] It's brighter.

[01:16:55] And and you know what else she said about going forward?

[01:16:59] I asked her how the pandemic change if it changed the writing of the show.

[01:17:04] And she said, well, we were already pretty far into writing season 11.

[01:17:09] So not so much. But she did say, you know, one thing that people

[01:17:11] I think are craving right now is lighter, brighter things.

[01:17:15] And so there was sort of a hint that we might see more of that

[01:17:19] in the show going forward, which is kind of interesting.

[01:17:21] Musical episode.

[01:17:23] Musical episode.

[01:17:25] But speaking of Stephen Yon, I mean, I want to talk about

[01:17:30] interviews as one of the things that's been really fun on this show

[01:17:33] and on this podcast.

[01:17:35] And here's a little clip from we interviewed Stephen Yon three or four times

[01:17:40] and here's from the second time we did back in episode 103.

[01:17:46] Have you been chased around Comic Con by crazed girls?

[01:17:52] No, it does not happen to me.

[01:17:54] That happens to Norman or John.

[01:17:57] It's probably like

[01:17:59] I just like dudes with like huge dudes with beards

[01:18:04] wanting me to trap me in some burlap sack and throw me in.

[01:18:10] I hope that doesn't happen.

[01:18:12] Good thing you're fast.

[01:18:14] Oh, yeah, there's no way that man catching me.

[01:18:16] I mean, there's no way.

[01:18:19] I'm really, really dodgy.

[01:18:21] I'm super dodgy.

[01:18:23] Wiley.

[01:18:27] He was fun to talk with, you know, he he got disillusioned with the show

[01:18:33] and he I think he realized just like we're kind of getting at

[01:18:38] with that what happened in season seven, episode one, that Glenn was so loved.

[01:18:43] And he didn't get.

[01:18:46] I don't think he got the kind of character moments that

[01:18:49] he sort of earned, you know, like he could have had more focus on him.

[01:18:55] And I think Stephen Yon knew that and he felt like the character got a bit of short

[01:18:59] shrift. I mean, he still he did get stuff, but not as much as he probably should have.

[01:19:04] Can I tell a little?

[01:19:06] So you go ahead, Karen.

[01:19:08] I just want to say you can tell in that in that interview, you can.

[01:19:12] He's he started with improv in.

[01:19:16] Yeah. And so you can hear like he's so he's such a good interview

[01:19:21] because of his improv background.

[01:19:24] He's just so quick and so he's like a nimble guy

[01:19:30] to interview. He's.

[01:19:32] Yeah, we should have thrown more stuff out at like that at him

[01:19:35] just to see how he would handle it.

[01:19:36] You know, later in conventions, he didn't want to do the panel so much.

[01:19:40] And the one the last one I did with him, it was kind of dark.

[01:19:44] And I just felt like there's something dark going on with with Stephen Yon

[01:19:48] around all this and he didn't want to answer some of the questions.

[01:19:52] And it was much different than the interviews that we did with him early on.

[01:19:55] So I feel like, you know, he he changed.

[01:19:57] He grew up and I don't know.

[01:19:59] He do you remember the backpack or some stuff?

[01:20:04] I don't know at the.

[01:20:06] Yeah, he lost his backpack or somebody stole it out of his car at Walker Stalker.

[01:20:10] He brought it on stage.

[01:20:13] He brought it on stage and we were making fun of him for carrying his

[01:20:16] backpack around and we were like, why did you bring that on stage?

[01:20:19] When are you going to pull out of it?

[01:20:20] What's going on there?

[01:20:21] And he's like, I just don't want to get it stolen.

[01:20:23] And like later that night got it.

[01:20:26] No.

[01:20:26] Yes.

[01:20:30] And here's that same episode one of three we asked him to do

[01:20:35] intro for us and here we asked him to do this intro.

[01:20:38] Hey, dumbass, you listening to Jason and Karen on the Walking Dead cast.

[01:20:45] Because he is character said that, remember?

[01:20:47] That was the first words that came out of Glenn's mouth.

[01:20:51] Hey, I have to say like Stephen Yen is absolutely

[01:20:56] breathtakingly good looking.

[01:20:57] I'm so sad I never got to meet him at a con.

[01:21:00] Yeah, probably good because I probably would have just

[01:21:03] cried and like peed myself or something.

[01:21:06] Yeah, all that stuff about only a guy with a burlap set coming after him

[01:21:10] and not the women.

[01:21:11] Well, that's because bullshit.

[01:21:13] Maybe it was bullshit, but also that was before season two

[01:21:17] had even aired. So only season one had air where he was just this bungling little

[01:21:20] kid and going forward, he was a heartthrob for sure.

[01:21:25] Yes.

[01:21:26] He can I just say he's also one of the few like no offence to Saskatchewan

[01:21:31] where I currently live, but he lived in Saskatchewan for a while in Regina.

[01:21:34] So he's one of the few kind of famous claims to fame that we have

[01:21:38] in the province is that Stephen Yen and his family moved here

[01:21:41] in the eighties out of South Korea.

[01:21:44] So he was a little prairie guy for a while.

[01:21:48] Regina, oh, there you go.

[01:21:50] I'm going to take that as like a claim to fame for my adopted home.

[01:21:54] No wonder he's so nice.

[01:21:55] Yeah, right. Canada influence.

[01:21:59] And speaking of interviews, we've done so many interviews.

[01:22:04] I don't even know if people who just started listening in recent years know

[01:22:09] because I started doing Walker Stalker, which I'm also going to talk about.

[01:22:12] And that I was I figured out I did around 200 panels at Walker Stalker

[01:22:16] conventions. Oh, it just got me burned out on interviews.

[01:22:20] So I didn't do them on the podcast anymore.

[01:22:22] That's one of the downsides about that whole experience.

[01:22:26] But but over our 10 years, we've talked with Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus,

[01:22:31] Stephen Yen, Denai Guerrero, Nick Otero, Lauren Cohan, Irony Singleton,

[01:22:36] Tom Payne, Ross Marquand.

[01:22:38] And that's just like tip the iceberg, you know, tons and tons

[01:22:41] because there's so many actors on the show, Scott Gimple and

[01:22:45] the second showrunner, Glenn Mazzara we talked to a few times.

[01:22:49] But one of my favorite interview moments was from our 100th episode

[01:22:54] celebration with Andrew Lincoln.

[01:22:57] Here it is.

[01:23:00] I think I mean, I can tell Andrew that you just really love the whole process.

[01:23:05] And I think and you've been so raw and emotional and it feels to me anyway

[01:23:09] when I'm watching it that you're actually having those emotions and I imagine

[01:23:12] you are. But I just want to ask you, it feels I really believe that when we see

[01:23:17] true emotions like that as an audience watching TV, that it unlocks some of

[01:23:23] that in us too. And that's one reason why we like it because we get to open

[01:23:27] up a little bit. Have you ever thought about that?

[01:23:32] Yeah, I mean, I think that that's why I go to movies

[01:23:38] and theater and I think I believe in the power to affect people and to

[01:23:44] educate people and to emotionally connect with people.

[01:23:48] That's the point for me.

[01:23:50] I mean, I love the fact that everyone always said to me, said it's a Trojan

[01:23:56] horse. We go inside people think we're a genre thing and then we break

[01:24:00] people's hearts.

[01:24:02] I just want to be alive.

[01:24:03] Nice.

[01:24:04] You know, I went out to me and I want to do that.

[01:24:13] Oh, that guy. Yeah.

[01:24:15] So lovely. Oh my God.

[01:24:19] He's fantastic.

[01:24:20] He's he's such a such a gentleman, such a terrific man.

[01:24:25] Absolutely.

[01:24:27] I'm kind of glad for him that he left.

[01:24:30] Do you know what I mean?

[01:24:30] I'm glad that he got to go and sort of do his own thing because he's just

[01:24:35] such a kind of thoughtful, nice person that I think like we were all

[01:24:40] quite worried about Rick leaving and things like that.

[01:24:42] But the show has gone from like strength to strength and I like to

[01:24:46] think that Andrew Lincoln is getting some serious downtime now and

[01:24:49] like getting to just chill out and play his piano and lovely.

[01:24:53] Be with his family.

[01:24:54] That was one of the main reasons why he wanted to leave.

[01:24:56] And and you know, as much as Rick was my favorite character,

[01:25:01] that character leaving created this vacuum that's been filled and

[01:25:04] given the other characters a chance to shine where they wouldn't

[01:25:08] have before and opened up some new possibilities.

[01:25:10] So it's it's been fine.

[01:25:15] It's been fine. It's fine.

[01:25:16] Yeah, it's fine.

[01:25:18] But I do hope these Walking Dead movies go forward

[01:25:20] because I'd love to see more rick grimes on screen.

[01:25:24] Yeah.

[01:25:26] I would like to say that a highlight for me was definitely

[01:25:29] interviewing Charlie Adler with you and Derek.

[01:25:31] Yeah, he's a great guy too.

[01:25:33] He's lovely and also obviously like even though it was like last week

[01:25:37] interviewing Dan Fogler was obviously brilliant.

[01:25:40] It was very good.

[01:25:41] I played the clips from last week's episode.

[01:25:44] Yeah, play the whole episode.

[01:25:45] I have to say I didn't say I didn't say on the podcast,

[01:25:49] but Jason, you and Dan Fogler could be like legit related to one another.

[01:25:53] You have such a similar vibe.

[01:25:55] Like I was saying there was like these.

[01:25:57] I think I was like these two guys could just sit and like,

[01:26:01] I don't know, drink, get high together or whatever

[01:26:03] and just shoot the shit like the two of you.

[01:26:05] I was just like there is something here.

[01:26:07] I feel like there's like potential for like brotherhood here

[01:26:11] that was very, very cute.

[01:26:14] That's really nice to hear.

[01:26:16] Yeah, we got some compliments on that interview, so that was that was good.

[01:26:20] Yeah.

[01:26:21] One of my favorite interview, I was just trying to think back.

[01:26:24] Weirdly, one of my favorite interviews was with Dallas Roberts,

[01:26:28] who played Milton the scientist from season three.

[01:26:32] You guys remember him?

[01:26:33] And he was the governor's lackey and he was trying to figure out

[01:26:39] if the zombies could be brought back or if there was any humanity left.

[01:26:45] I guess because the governor had his daughter locked up in the closet.

[01:26:49] Yeah.

[01:26:50] So here is an exchange from that interview that stuck with me for some reason.

[01:26:56] And I reference a line in here where he's talking about the governor.

[01:27:00] I think he's trying to convince the governor to let Michonne or maybe Andrea.

[01:27:03] I forget who go back to her people.

[01:27:09] Did you clean that sink for mom?

[01:27:11] She doesn't like a single chile in that sink.

[01:27:14] Oh, wait, that's right.

[01:27:16] Did you clean that?

[01:27:17] Son of a bitch.

[01:27:18] What the fuck?

[01:27:20] That that started in the middle of the clip.

[01:27:24] Oh, well, OK, I have another clip from there.

[01:27:27] So, damn it, I didn't get to play the one I wanted to play,

[01:27:30] but maybe I'll play it on another podcast.

[01:27:32] I'll just leave this in.

[01:27:33] But there's another exchange.

[01:27:34] So Karen, you couldn't be there for that interview,

[01:27:37] but you called in a left a message because you really liked the character.

[01:27:41] And you and I had a bet about whether Milton was poisoning the tea in Woodbury.

[01:27:46] And I had asked him about it and then I played your call for him after that.

[01:27:52] So here it is.

[01:27:53] I wanted to ask you that before I play.

[01:27:55] She actually called in and left a message for you.

[01:27:57] I'm going to play it for you now.

[01:27:58] Here goes. Hey, there.

[01:27:59] This is Karen. Hello, Dallas.

[01:28:03] Thank you so much for being on the Walking Dead cast.

[01:28:05] And I wish I was here to interview you in person,

[01:28:10] but I thought I'd leave a message with my question.

[01:28:14] But first I have to tell you that I find the character you play, Milton,

[01:28:18] to be strangely sexy and I think it has to do with the fact

[01:28:24] that he plays as a scientist who likes to look around with zombies.

[01:28:29] I don't know. There's something to that.

[01:28:31] Anyway, maybe you can help.

[01:28:33] Jason and I have a bet.

[01:28:35] She goes on to ask about the tea, but I didn't want to play that

[01:28:38] before I asked you because I thought your answer might change.

[01:28:41] Right.

[01:28:43] Well, it certainly might have changed her being ever, you know,

[01:28:47] the person ever to refer to Milton as sexy.

[01:28:52] Might have taken her time just just for that.

[01:28:59] Oh, my God, I'm dying.

[01:29:02] He was sort of fumbling around, trying to figure out

[01:29:06] how to speak again after that.

[01:29:08] Oh, I can't believe I said that.

[01:29:12] So funny.

[01:29:13] Wow. So many times in our podcast afterwards, I'm like,

[01:29:17] did I just say that out loud?

[01:29:21] I mean, not only did I say that out loud, I specifically called

[01:29:25] in to tell the actor that.

[01:29:29] Oh, my God.

[01:29:30] You have a glass of.

[01:29:32] I feel like you had a glass of rosé in one hand and you're like,

[01:29:35] hey,

[01:29:39] God, it's Karen.

[01:29:41] Lord.

[01:29:44] It was funny and he loved it.

[01:29:48] Oh, he will 100 percent have loved every minute of that.

[01:29:53] I wish I could have played that other one.

[01:29:55] Let me see if I.

[01:29:57] Downloaded that wrong or something.

[01:29:59] Let's see. I'll try it again.

[01:30:01] Let me see if this is it.

[01:30:02] Did you clean that thing?

[01:30:03] Oh, God damn.

[01:30:05] What is that quote from?

[01:30:07] It was me asking.

[01:30:08] Maybe I can just summarize the first part.

[01:30:11] So I really liked Dallas Roberts line readings

[01:30:14] because he would put emphasis on on on the word in a really interesting way

[01:30:20] and and but it made sense.

[01:30:22] But, you know, I told I played a clip of him saying,

[01:30:28] you know, hey, you should let her go back and see her people.

[01:30:32] And governors like

[01:30:34] and you know, he said she wants to go.

[01:30:38] And then the governor's like, did you talk to her?

[01:30:40] And he goes, no, like kind of like like he's worried.

[01:30:44] And just there was a little little to it that I thought was interesting.

[01:30:48] So I asked him about it.

[01:30:49] And then he said that he likes how

[01:30:53] who's John Malkovich.

[01:30:55] He was saying how he gave a certain line reading where someone said

[01:31:01] he was supposed to say you shouldn't leave tea leaves in that sink.

[01:31:05] But instead, they said, let's see, I think it's right here.

[01:31:09] Let me see. Did you clean that sink for mom?

[01:31:11] She doesn't like a single tea leaf in that sink.

[01:31:14] But he went she doesn't like a single tea leaf in that sink.

[01:31:20] And it makes you think that there's a sink that she likes to lead in.

[01:31:25] Yeah.

[01:31:25] You know, and that kind of stuff I am totally

[01:31:30] attracted to and so therefore I'll sort of throw in when I can.

[01:31:35] That's great.

[01:31:36] You know, I've noticed that some actors do that and it changes the meaning.

[01:31:41] But in a way that feels like the actor just wanted to not be cliche,

[01:31:46] but it doesn't quite make sense.

[01:31:47] But I think every time you do it, it just adds something to it.

[01:31:51] You know?

[01:31:52] Yeah, thanks, man.

[01:31:53] Well, hopefully it's, you know, hopefully it's something that

[01:31:58] that's organic, that's coming out of something that just happened.

[01:32:03] You know, the the know there about did you talk to her?

[01:32:09] Is it, you know, a defensive sort of like what's going to happen now?

[01:32:13] Sort of saying that that just sort of came out, you know, based on David's face, basically.

[01:32:19] So that was it.

[01:32:21] I just like that one because when I

[01:32:23] I realize when I get into more specific questions and more about the craft,

[01:32:28] then they might have they might get more engaged with their answers.

[01:32:32] And I always love that.

[01:32:32] You know, if I don't come prepared with that kind of stuff, then sometimes it's not as good.

[01:32:38] I think for actors, it's a gift when we don't just ask them about like,

[01:32:42] I don't know, do you like zombies?

[01:32:44] Yeah, what's going to happen next?

[01:32:46] Yeah, I think it's nice for them to be taken kind of seriously as an actor

[01:32:50] rather than just a character, I guess.

[01:32:53] Mm hmm.

[01:32:54] If you done your homework.

[01:32:57] Should I play my last one?

[01:32:58] Yes.

[01:32:59] OK, so as I mentioned earlier, the main thing that inspired this podcast was the

[01:33:05] lost podcast with J and Jack.

[01:33:07] And I really think that without that podcast, we probably wouldn't have walking

[01:33:11] deadcast.

[01:33:13] I don't know.

[01:33:14] That's what made me think, man, I want to do that.

[01:33:16] And so I wanted to interview J and Jack.

[01:33:19] And it actually was harder to pin down those guys than most of the actors.

[01:33:26] And then when we did get them, I was actually feeling more nervous than I am

[01:33:31] with most of the actors, which kind of surprised me.

[01:33:33] But I guess, I don't know, they were kind of our, you know, we looked up to them

[01:33:37] and everything. Do you remember that?

[01:33:39] Uh huh. Yeah.

[01:33:41] Heck yeah. You mean the interview itself or just how you felt or whatever.

[01:33:45] Oh yeah. Nervous.

[01:33:47] But it was fun.

[01:33:48] I mean, they were really nice and J didn't even watch walking dead at that time.

[01:33:52] I think he's since has, I think they actually even started podcasting on it.

[01:33:56] But he was too squeamish.

[01:33:57] But anyway, Jack, this is just a quick little clip, but Jack was famous on the

[01:34:03] lost podcast for his crackpot theories, crackpot theory of the week.

[01:34:07] So we asked him if he had a crackpot walking dead theory.

[01:34:12] And here it is.

[01:34:13] Yeah. Jack, do you have some kind of a walking dead crackpot theory?

[01:34:17] Crack about three.

[01:34:18] I do think Michonne and Rick are going to hook up.

[01:34:21] Yeah, I think they're going to.

[01:34:23] I think they're going to become a couple.

[01:34:26] And then Carl's going to have to kill another mom.

[01:34:30] That's the part of that theory I haven't heard.

[01:34:35] Crackpotty.

[01:34:37] That's cool, because usually he was never right, but that time he was totally

[01:34:41] right. He's totally right.

[01:34:43] He's so right.

[01:34:44] He's a little Rishon chipper.

[01:34:47] I forgot what a nice voice he has to.

[01:34:49] I know, right?

[01:34:51] Yeah, that means a lot.

[01:34:55] Yeah, that was fun.

[01:34:57] Wow, that's I completely forgot that that we got to interview them.

[01:35:02] That's nuts.

[01:35:04] Yeah, man, it's been a long time.

[01:35:05] Like I remember you and I used to talk about the zombie movies we loved.

[01:35:12] And and zombie lamb was always one of them.

[01:35:14] And somebody's like, why don't you guys cover a zombie land?

[01:35:18] And I was like, oh, yeah, we did years ago.

[01:35:21] And I went back and looked and I'm like, oh, no, we didn't.

[01:35:28] So then I think we did decide to do it.

[01:35:31] Maybe it was on the Jason and Karen show.

[01:35:32] I can't even remember.

[01:35:34] I think we did.

[01:35:35] You know, it's funny.

[01:35:36] I've been we've been David and I have been rewatching Lost.

[01:35:39] And because this is apparently what you do in the pandemic, you just go and

[01:35:44] watch a giant amount of television.

[01:35:46] And I'm amazed at how you said that that

[01:35:51] Jack was squeamish, too squeamish to watch The Walking Dead.

[01:35:54] But honestly, Lost is really violent.

[01:35:58] Like ways made punchier and sloppier and like head bashier than I remember it was.

[01:36:06] Yeah.

[01:36:06] But it's not as gory as The Walking Dead.

[01:36:08] But yeah, it is super violent.

[01:36:10] Yeah, people are not you're right.

[01:36:11] People are not and zombies are not running around eating you.

[01:36:14] True. But everybody gets beat up on that show repeatedly.

[01:36:20] I know.

[01:36:21] I think it's harder sometimes when it's like

[01:36:24] human on human violence as well.

[01:36:26] Like it's like, whoa, that's like I find that harder to watch than zombie violence.

[01:36:31] And what that sounds really silly.

[01:36:33] But like zombies kind of the yeah, it's kind of why the Negan thing was so bad

[01:36:37] was because it was just like human brutality rather than zombie.

[01:36:40] Totally. So I think with Lost there were like there were scenes in even in the first

[01:36:45] season of like Saeed being tortured and things like that.

[01:36:48] They were really good some bits and lost.

[01:36:50] True. Yeah.

[01:36:52] I mean, I remember feeling critical of the show because they would have people

[01:36:57] fight that really like you beat the shit out of him because he was wearing a watch.

[01:37:01] Right. Right.

[01:37:05] But that was episode 103 if listeners, if you want to go back and listen,

[01:37:10] we actually talked about Lost through most of that interview.

[01:37:13] And I think it was like 40 minutes long.

[01:37:14] So we only talked about walking dead a little bit.

[01:37:17] Of course, it was Jay and Jack.

[01:37:17] So we asked him a lot of questions about Lost in there.

[01:37:21] I totally want to go back and listen to that now that I'm watching Lost.

[01:37:26] 103 if you want to.

[01:37:28] I mean, I think I covered just about.

[01:37:31] Well, I did want to talk a little bit about Walker Stucker,

[01:37:34] but did you guys have anything else that you thought up?

[01:37:39] Walker Stucker is actually a good jumping off point for for a couple of mine.

[01:37:44] Go ahead. Oh, OK.

[01:37:46] So I mean, yeah, doing these Walker Stucker conventions came about because

[01:37:51] of this podcast because James and Eric had started their Walker Stucker podcast

[01:37:57] and then they had been listening to us for inspiration before that.

[01:38:01] And I reached out to them to tell them I like their podcast.

[01:38:04] And we got into contact and did did an event actually together at Comic Con,

[01:38:07] like a little event.

[01:38:08] But anyways, so it's because of the podcast that James asked Karen and I to go

[01:38:13] and host the panels for the first Walker Stucker.

[01:38:17] And I ended up just staying and did it for like six years.

[01:38:21] And it was quite, quite an experience.

[01:38:24] Like I've always liked being a part of something where somebody had a vision

[01:38:29] and realized that we all work hard to make it happen.

[01:38:31] And it turns out amazing and granted the end of that is pretty tragic and sad.

[01:38:36] But in the middle there, it was incredible.

[01:38:40] And because of a all the people who came together, we'd never done anything like that

[01:38:45] before, but we all found what we were good at.

[01:38:48] You know, there were people who are into the logistics of it,

[01:38:51] media relations, disability services and audio video.

[01:38:56] And for me, it was doing the panels and interviews and setting up entertainment

[01:39:00] and stuff like that.

[01:39:01] We all just found our niche and and James was great about not

[01:39:05] micromanaging, so we just he just let us do our thing.

[01:39:09] And it was just such a fulfilling experience.

[01:39:11] And and we got to go to cities all over the country and to London every year,

[01:39:16] which you had mentioned in your message, Lucy, I ended up.

[01:39:18] I did get to go there and we met and that was awesome.

[01:39:21] We met. Yeah.

[01:39:22] And I met a bunch of listeners through Walker Stucker all over the country,

[01:39:26] which was total blessing is so cool.

[01:39:30] And then I got to hang out with the celebrities.

[01:39:32] And I mean, I've interviewed just about everyone from The Walking Dead.

[01:39:38] The Lost panel I did with Harold Perino, Elizabeth Mitchell and Henry Ian Kusick

[01:39:45] and Mira Furlan, who's Danielle, the Doctor Who panel with Matt Smith,

[01:39:49] Arthur Darval and Karen Gillan was probably my favorite one of all.

[01:39:53] Battlestar Galactica with Edward James, almost Mary McDonald and Katie Sackhoff.

[01:39:59] Just like I repeatedly found myself sitting up there

[01:40:04] going, how did the hell did this happen?

[01:40:07] Yeah.

[01:40:08] Yes.

[01:40:10] Yeah, we're talking dead.

[01:40:11] Giancarlo Esposito.

[01:40:12] Yes. Oh, he was another one.

[01:40:15] He was electric Gus Walker Stucker or Isaac Hempstead, right?

[01:40:21] A brand on GameTrends.

[01:40:22] John Bradley, Hannah Murray, Sam and Gilly and Christian Aaron Hodor.

[01:40:27] That was amazing.

[01:40:29] And, you know, like some of the people that were that were regularly great,

[01:40:34] Irony Singleton was always good, super emotional and inspirational, fun.

[01:40:39] Andrew Lincoln was really thoughtful and funny and

[01:40:43] Ezekiel and Jerry, you know, Cary Payton and Cooper Andrews were always fun.

[01:40:48] Ross Mark Kwan's was really he and I played off of each other pretty well

[01:40:53] sometimes in Caitlyn Nacon.

[01:40:55] She was good. Tom Payne was fun.

[01:40:56] Karen, you and I did that one.

[01:40:58] Tom Payne, Hannah Lynn, and Nick Otero was great.

[01:41:02] Paulina McIntosh was really cool.

[01:41:04] The one who played Jadis and Cudlitz was always awesome and super funny.

[01:41:10] Some of the tougher ones, Michael Rooker, he was fun, but

[01:41:13] World card.

[01:41:14] I got punched in the stomach literally a couple of times.

[01:41:17] She first.

[01:41:18] It was fun.

[01:41:19] He was showing me how to fight.

[01:41:21] Burnthal was tough sometimes.

[01:41:25] He could be a little like adversarial, but in an entertaining way.

[01:41:31] Lenny James was a little like he gave me this look like he didn't trust me

[01:41:35] sometimes and I'm like, dude, I love your character.

[01:41:38] But I do. I do love him.

[01:41:41] Yeah. And Stephen Young, he was like great at first, but later on,

[01:41:45] he didn't seem so comfortable with the whole thing.

[01:41:48] He didn't really want to do the panels.

[01:41:51] But but anyway, I mean, just incredible

[01:41:54] experience and you know, it was also super

[01:41:59] exhausting like going away once a month every month or two for four days.

[01:42:05] Leaving my family, not getting enough sleep.

[01:42:08] You know, one time when we went to London,

[01:42:10] I left on a Friday and came back on a Monday.

[01:42:13] Jason, you were so broken when I met you in London.

[01:42:17] You were like, you're like, I have no idea what time it is.

[01:42:21] I'm drinking. I think it was Red Bull and or coffee.

[01:42:24] And you were like, yeah, I don't know.

[01:42:27] And that was regular and I'd also be super stressed just trying to come up

[01:42:32] with good questions for the panels and and I had to like help break down at the

[01:42:37] end and, you know, just run the thing.

[01:42:39] And it was it was fucking hard.

[01:42:41] And I get stage fright like almost every time, not stage fright,

[01:42:45] but just anxiety about how well it was going to go.

[01:42:48] And more often than not, I'd end up getting high while I was up there.

[01:42:53] Like just an adrenaline high like, oh my God, this is great.

[01:42:56] So it was like these ups and downs, you know?

[01:42:59] Sometimes the panels didn't go well.

[01:43:00] There were a couple really like just fail moments in front of hundreds of people.

[01:43:06] But more often than not, it was it was pretty great.

[01:43:10] And that adrenaline high kept me coming back.

[01:43:13] And I'm kind of glad that it wound down on its own because

[01:43:17] I'm glad to hopefully get back to doing more interviews on the podcast like we have

[01:43:20] been lately, you know, now that I'm not so burnout on them.

[01:43:23] But it just felt like it had run its course.

[01:43:25] And I had thought about quitting several times anyway.

[01:43:29] But I don't know, I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

[01:43:32] It was awesome.

[01:43:34] Do you remember the biggest fail?

[01:43:37] Well, there was this one panel I did with.

[01:43:43] Cudlitz and Josh McDermott and Alana Masterson

[01:43:49] and Lauren Cohen and I think Christian Serratos.

[01:43:55] And it was right after Glenn and Abraham had gotten killed by Negan.

[01:44:02] And the cast was really emotional and in a weird place.

[01:44:06] And also, I wasn't even supposed to be on that panel.

[01:44:10] It was supposed to be James and he wasn't there.

[01:44:14] And on top of that, James had run a Kickstarter for somebody to host

[01:44:19] a panel at Walker Stalker like a fan.

[01:44:21] And so I had her there and she'd written out some questions.

[01:44:25] And and I was like, Colin James, are you going to be there?

[01:44:29] He goes, I'll be there in a couple of minutes.

[01:44:31] And Josh McDermott was getting nervous, like or restless.

[01:44:35] I guess he wanted to get back to his table.

[01:44:36] So he's like, let's just go.

[01:44:37] And he just walked out on the stage, no inter music.

[01:44:39] Usually we had inter music with an intro.

[01:44:42] And so everybody walked out and we're like, is it starting?

[01:44:45] They were kind of confused.

[01:44:46] And it felt like I'm like, well, I guess I'm going to do it.

[01:44:49] And it felt like to them, I think, especially Lauren Cohen and the girls

[01:44:53] that I didn't have a handle on it, you know?

[01:44:56] And then when we got out there, the girl who won the Kickstarter

[01:45:01] asked her question to Lauren Cohen.

[01:45:03] And it was something like if Maggie had known what was going to happen

[01:45:10] in all these bad things that were going to happen, would she have chosen

[01:45:13] to bring a baby into this world or something like that?

[01:45:15] But yeah. Yeah.

[01:45:16] And Lauren Cohen goes, you know, let me get back to you on that.

[01:45:20] And then she turned her and Christian Serratos just like turned their backs

[01:45:25] on us and then a lot of masters and just started taking questions from the

[01:45:28] audience.

[01:45:30] She kind of took over.

[01:45:31] And the girl, the Kickstarter girl was like, should I ask this question?

[01:45:35] And I looked down and it was another one that could be taken as an insult.

[01:45:38] And I'm like, I think we should just let it just let it go like this, you know?

[01:45:42] And there was a little more to it than that.

[01:45:44] But it was just like the word.

[01:45:45] I was like, I can't wait until this is over.

[01:45:47] You know?

[01:45:49] Wow.

[01:45:51] But that's one out of how many you did.

[01:45:54] 200 years, you know?

[01:45:55] Yeah. Yeah.

[01:45:56] Did you have any, were there any white whales?

[01:45:59] Was there ever like one that you'd never got?

[01:46:00] Was it you never got Melissa McBride, right?

[01:46:03] Yeah. Yeah.

[01:46:05] Yeah.

[01:46:05] And she just was super nervous about doing them.

[01:46:08] And that's why she's never been on the podcast either.

[01:46:10] She just gets really anxious about doing interviews.

[01:46:13] And I tried and one time I was supposed to do one with her and Greg Nicotero.

[01:46:17] And I saw her in the green room and I was like, you ready for your panel later?

[01:46:20] And she's like, you should just ask Greg all the questions.

[01:46:24] And I was trying to like get to know her a little bit so I could like maybe

[01:46:29] make it OK, but her handler came and was like, oh, we got to go.

[01:46:33] And I was like, oh, and then she ended up canceling out.

[01:46:35] So it didn't happen.

[01:46:38] But, you know, like, I don't want to leave it with that.

[01:46:40] Like some of the highlights, like that Doctor Who panel, it was at night

[01:46:44] and in San Francisco and at Fort Mason in this like beautiful hall.

[01:46:51] And there was the big crack of the universe behind them as a backdrop.

[01:46:56] And they I gave them a beer backstage and they were like so thankful.

[01:47:01] And then when they came out, they were just on fire and the crowd was electric.

[01:47:05] And they were singing just impromptu bohemian rhapsody and just the whole thing.

[01:47:11] Yeah. And they it was fantastic.

[01:47:15] And then when I went backstage, I went up to Matt Smith and I was like,

[01:47:18] I think that's the best panel we've ever had.

[01:47:19] And he just gave me this big giant hug, like wrapped his arms around me.

[01:47:24] Amazing.

[01:47:25] And obviously, Karen Gillan is from the best part of the world because she's from

[01:47:29] like where I grew up that part of Scotland.

[01:47:31] So obviously it was going to be the best panel ever.

[01:47:34] I don't know why you're surprised.

[01:47:35] Do you remember?

[01:47:36] Have I told you my Karen Gillan story?

[01:47:39] No, I think I've told it on the podcast.

[01:47:41] So one time I did a panel with just her and it was me and Dave Solo

[01:47:46] moderating and she someone from the audience asked if she could sing

[01:47:51] or hum the theme song to Doctor Who.

[01:47:54] And, you know, it goes do do.

[01:47:58] But she goes, OK, what can you guys do the the bottom,

[01:48:03] the underlying part and then I'll come in and Dave didn't even watch the show.

[01:48:08] So I was like, OK, it goes to the dot,

[01:48:11] dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot.

[01:48:15] And I'm looking over here.

[01:48:16] Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, and then like after the third time,

[01:48:18] she goes, I just want to see how long you would do that.

[01:48:24] I was like, thanks.

[01:48:29] That was pretty fun.

[01:48:32] Great.

[01:48:34] I mean, I got tons of stories,

[01:48:35] but this isn't the Walker Stalker podcast, so maybe on a future one, I'll tell more.

[01:48:39] Oh, it's so good.

[01:48:41] My the best thing about the Walker Stalker

[01:48:44] cons for me was always the listener meetup.

[01:48:48] Yeah, always, always.

[01:48:51] Yeah, that was the yeah.

[01:48:52] I mean, I did him in cities all over, but Atlanta was the one where most people would

[01:48:56] come and it was super, super cool.

[01:48:58] Oh, it's the best.

[01:49:00] I loved it, loved it, loved it.

[01:49:01] I remember spending hours with listeners and having so much fun.

[01:49:07] And after that, just feeling like that's it.

[01:49:10] It doesn't get any better than that.

[01:49:11] It's just fantastic.

[01:49:13] Yeah.

[01:49:14] Yeah, I mean, it's really fun to be able to meet people who are interested

[01:49:19] in the same things you're and talk to them.

[01:49:21] But you got to admit, it's also cool when everyone comes up to you and goes,

[01:49:24] I love what you do.

[01:49:27] Yes, that is nice.

[01:49:29] Kind of nice.

[01:49:30] Yep, it is really, really nice.

[01:49:32] I think they do they do that more to you

[01:49:36] because you are you are the voice in the face of the podcast and podcastica.

[01:49:41] Well, come on. No way.

[01:49:43] You and I are there together.

[01:49:44] Then their fans of yours too.

[01:49:47] The one one time I helped a woman with a with a stroller.

[01:49:51] I helped carry her her stroller because it was next to an escalator.

[01:49:54] I helped carry her baby in the stroller up the flight of stairs.

[01:49:57] And at the top, I was saying goodbye and she said goodbye, Karen.

[01:50:02] I was like, well,

[01:50:03] yeah,

[01:50:07] it's cool. That's awesome.

[01:50:08] And you've had, I mean, you have a Twitter presence.

[01:50:12] So you've had listeners contact you on Twitter, right, Lucy?

[01:50:15] Yes, the weirdest one for me was

[01:50:19] a couple of years back we were invited to a New Year party with a couple of friends

[01:50:23] in Scotland and we couldn't go in the end because we were moving in like three weeks.

[01:50:28] And there's a whole slew of reasons why we weren't there.

[01:50:31] And someone who'd been at the party was like, oh, you were missed.

[01:50:34] And I was like, oh, it's nice to hear they're like, no, really,

[01:50:36] someone there figured out who you were.

[01:50:39] And I was like, what?

[01:50:40] And they just basically said, oh, our friend Lucy can't come.

[01:50:43] She's she's just finished her PhD, blah, blah, blah.

[01:50:46] And someone had been like, she'd Lucy from Scotland.

[01:50:50] What? And then it turned out this person was a listener.

[01:50:53] So I was always like, oh, I missed my one chance to go in a famous person at a party.

[01:50:58] But yeah, no, I get listeners.

[01:51:00] I've had really lovely contact with listeners and

[01:51:03] people just being so engaged and nice about the things that we talk about.

[01:51:07] And not just even zombie stuff.

[01:51:09] I've had people contact me about like their grad studies about things that they're

[01:51:13] interested in Scotland, people love talking about Scotland and I love talking

[01:51:18] about Scotland. So that's great.

[01:51:19] You know, a Walker stalker, I got to meet you, Jason.

[01:51:22] I got to meet your family. Bodie was tiny.

[01:51:25] He was like six weeks old maybe when I met him.

[01:51:28] Chris from Talking Dead.

[01:51:30] That's incredible.

[01:51:32] And Chris came along, which is wonderful.

[01:51:34] And Gemma from Wales was there.

[01:51:37] The guys from Isimo.

[01:51:39] That was wonderful.

[01:51:40] Yeah, last year.

[01:51:42] Oh, Mark and Abby were so sweet.

[01:51:44] And last year I got to go down to Colorado and meet up with Lara and Claire Retra,

[01:51:49] who are both members of the Zedhead community.

[01:51:52] And we met through the Zedhead post exchange.

[01:51:55] It's just, you know, there's all these experiences I just wouldn't have had

[01:51:59] without this podcast.

[01:52:00] It's incredible.

[01:52:01] And one of the things I really wanted to mention when we were talking about

[01:52:04] highlights was that one of the biggest highlights for me was

[01:52:08] actually getting to do comic talk with Derek.

[01:52:11] Derek's such an amazing podcaster in his own right.

[01:52:14] And it felt like after Gracie Lou and Mr.

[01:52:18] Blog, it just felt like such a precious and important thing to be handed over

[01:52:23] was to get to do those comic talk segments.

[01:52:25] And we did so much work like preparing them and rereading the comics and making

[01:52:30] sure that we were accurate and true to what was happening.

[01:52:33] And that's one of the people for me.

[01:52:35] I'm sad that I haven't met in real life yet is Derek, because I feel like we really

[01:52:40] enjoyed doing that section together.

[01:52:43] So you were great.

[01:52:44] This is making me excited talking now about the people that I have yet to

[01:52:49] meet and the things that will come in the next few years, because I've not

[01:52:52] met you yet, Karen, I need to get down to.

[01:52:54] I know California.

[01:52:56] I feel I feel like I've met you.

[01:53:01] I know it's so funny.

[01:53:02] Every once in a while, I have to remind myself that we haven't actually met

[01:53:06] in person because I spent a lot of time together virtually.

[01:53:11] I like text you with like dilemmas about my life and I speak to people in this

[01:53:15] head group about things that like I don't speak to people who know in real

[01:53:19] life about it's the it's the beautiful thing about this kind of community.

[01:53:22] You know, and yeah, I think I've always so jealous that I never made it

[01:53:26] to an Atlanta meet up.

[01:53:28] They always sounded like so much fun.

[01:53:31] One thing you mentioned, Mark and Abby, my favorite memory of those two,

[01:53:36] they're just really talented musicians and just really lovely people.

[01:53:41] But I asked them because they used to play music at the Walker Stalker London.

[01:53:47] And I asked them to do their own version of Easy Street, that song that they

[01:53:53] tortured Daryl with in The Savior's Compound.

[01:53:57] And so they did and it sounds beautiful.

[01:53:59] But anyways, they played it and Jeffrey Dean Morgan was up on the second level

[01:54:05] signing autographs and they played it and he like leaned over the edge of the thing

[01:54:09] and flipped everybody off with a big smile.

[01:54:12] I was there for that.

[01:54:14] It was so funny.

[01:54:15] He was just no way.

[01:54:16] Maybe it was Daryl.

[01:54:17] It was Daryl Norman.

[01:54:19] Yeah, I'm sorry.

[01:54:20] It was Norman.

[01:54:20] Yeah.

[01:54:21] I think him, he and JDM were like on the same bit.

[01:54:25] So I think JDM like looked over as well.

[01:54:27] But yeah, Daryl was like, what the fuck?

[01:54:33] That was awesome.

[01:54:34] You know, I just realized we have a ton of messages from listeners.

[01:54:37] So shall we get to those?

[01:54:39] Let's do it.

[01:54:40] Let's get into some Lister Mones Growns and Grunts.

[01:54:48] All right, let's hear from Archmester Renny.

[01:54:52] Hi Jason and Karen and Lucy and David and the crew.

[01:54:56] This is Archmester Renny, also known as Mayday.

[01:55:00] Rennie saying happy 10th birthday to the podcast.

[01:55:03] So that means the podcast is in fifth grade now, right?

[01:55:08] I'm trying to remember when I started listening.

[01:55:10] 2013, I think, shortly after I started watching The Walking Dead.

[01:55:16] I binge watched seasons one through three and then I started watching live

[01:55:21] with season four and found the podcast soon after.

[01:55:27] I got to meet Jason and Karen and David and Mr.

[01:55:30] Blog at Walker Stalker in San Francisco in 2015, and that was great.

[01:55:36] We had a drink with you all in the bar of the Long Now Foundation there.

[01:55:42] Cool.

[01:55:42] We have this collection of books they say are fundamental to civilization and

[01:55:46] need to be preserved through the apocalypse and which are mostly written by

[01:55:50] white men, not said.

[01:55:53] And at that event, Karen and I got to talk about

[01:55:57] being in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake because we were both in Santa Cruz at that time.

[01:56:04] Karen has the best smile and the best laugh ever for the record.

[01:56:11] So I want to thank you all for

[01:56:14] the all the great coverage of The Walking Dead through all its ups and downs

[01:56:20] and the coverage of Game of Thrones through House Podcastica and

[01:56:26] the coverage of The Handmaid's Tale when Kristen was podcasting with that.

[01:56:32] I got to co-host with her.

[01:56:34] That was great fun.

[01:56:35] And also the Westworld coverage with Jason and David, which has been just great.

[01:56:43] I ventured to say that the coverage was probably better than the show in season three.

[01:56:49] And I just want to add that I think Lucy is an awesome addition to the podcast.

[01:56:55] So here's to another 10 years.

[01:56:59] Thanks, you all.

[01:57:02] Oh, thank you, Rene.

[01:57:03] I love it. You're a listener, Rene.

[01:57:06] You're so smart and thoughtful.

[01:57:08] She's wonderful too.

[01:57:10] She's she's a professor up in Seattle, right?

[01:57:13] I think so. Yeah.

[01:57:15] She's amazing.

[01:57:16] She is. That was really fun.

[01:57:19] Here is our friend, Aeron of the Balbooth Podcast Network.

[01:57:24] Hey, Jason, Karen and the rest of the regular

[01:57:26] career podcastica, congratulations on your 10 year anniversary and 400th show.

[01:57:31] This is Aeron from the Balbooth Network.

[01:57:33] And I know how hard it is to keep something like this going over a decade.

[01:57:37] It's a real accomplishment.

[01:57:39] I know that you guys have had to overcome a lot of setbacks big and

[01:57:42] small to keep it going because ten years is a lot of time.

[01:57:45] And I know your fans love you for it

[01:57:46] because there's no way that you can extend this much effort over so large a span of

[01:57:51] time and not have it come from a place of love.

[01:57:54] You guys are class acts, you're straight shooters,

[01:57:57] you're professional as podcasters come.

[01:58:00] Been a real privilege meeting you at the various

[01:58:01] cons across the country.

[01:58:03] We bumped into each other.

[01:58:04] It's been a lot of fun collaborating with you on the different projects

[01:58:07] we've done over the years.

[01:58:08] I really hope we can do it again soon.

[01:58:10] Much love and respect from our family to yours.

[01:58:12] Congratulations again.

[01:58:14] And here's to another 10.

[01:58:16] So fantastic.

[01:58:18] He's a class act.

[01:58:20] He is. Yeah.

[01:58:22] Jim and Aaron came along, I think during season three of The Walking Dead,

[01:58:26] and they did their Watching Dead podcast, and they were shooting up the charts.

[01:58:30] And I'd listened to them and I was like, damn, they're good.

[01:58:34] And my M.O.

[01:58:36] always was instead of thinking of people as competition to just get to be

[01:58:40] friends with them.

[01:58:41] So I invited Aaron on and we interviewed one of the writers at the time

[01:58:44] of The Walking Dead and we were friends ever since.

[01:58:46] And we had collaborated on a podcast, The Legion podcast,

[01:58:50] I mean, Aaron and Jim and then Rima.

[01:58:54] That was super fun.

[01:58:55] And he's just a great guy.

[01:58:57] And they actually stopped podcasting on Walking Dead after season eight

[01:59:02] because they were just like, we just don't like it anymore.

[01:59:04] But then they kept hearing everyone say how good seasons nine and 10

[01:59:08] were so they're back now in case you guys didn't know that Watching Dead

[01:59:11] is back.

[01:59:12] They're doing seasons nine and 10 now.

[01:59:15] Yeah, that's fantastic.

[01:59:18] Here is well, maybe I'll just play these and not announce them.

[01:59:22] Here's the next one.

[01:59:23] Jason and Karen, you wonderful humans.

[01:59:26] Congratulations on reaching your 400th episode and 10 year pod

[01:59:30] anniversary. Yay.

[01:59:31] I just wanted to let you guys know how much you mean to me.

[01:59:34] I've been listening for about five years now, I guess.

[01:59:37] I discovered you on one of the crossover shows with Chris and Jason

[01:59:40] at the Talking Dead podcast.

[01:59:42] And they announced that they'd be doing a show with Jason and Karen

[01:59:44] from the Walking Dead cast.

[01:59:46] And I thought they meant from the cast of the Walking Dead show.

[01:59:50] And I thought, Jason and Karen in the show.

[01:59:53] Anyway, I started listening and I immediately loved

[01:59:56] the humor and the obvious warmth and friendship between you

[01:59:59] and the insightful dissection every week of the Walking Dead episodes.

[02:00:03] I guess I've left a few voice messages over the years.

[02:00:06] And I even got to guest on an episode

[02:00:08] with Jason and Lucy, which was so much fun.

[02:00:11] I love how Lucy's becomes such a part of the podcast too,

[02:00:14] with her amazing accent and her delightful Lord of the Rings fandom

[02:00:18] that pops up now in a game.

[02:00:20] Karen, your laughter and your positive and happy outlook on life

[02:00:24] sprinkled with a delicious and wicked dose of cheeky cynicism is such a treasure

[02:00:28] to me, your enthusiasm for not just the show, but for so many other big things

[02:00:33] like the environment and justice in the world and all the little things

[02:00:37] and the shameless judgment segment is really inspiring.

[02:00:40] Jason, I admire your honesty.

[02:00:42] You're so open with people and you're not afraid to engage in debate

[02:00:45] and explore differences, but you do it so respectfully.

[02:00:49] The community that you've built with the Facebook group of Z-Head Patreon

[02:00:53] supporters is an extraordinary thing.

[02:00:55] It started out as a bunch of fans who liked a zombie show

[02:00:58] and it grew to a supportive community of really dear friends who've helped

[02:01:02] each other through the joys and hardships of life.

[02:01:05] I came to the group as a stranger from a distant land and although I've never

[02:01:09] been in the same room as any of them, I found true friendship with so many people.

[02:01:13] And I'm so grateful for that.

[02:01:15] If we're ever allowed to travel again, I'm coming to visit you both.

[02:01:18] And maybe one day you could visit us in New Zealand too.

[02:01:21] Thanks again so much from my heart.

[02:01:23] I'm sending you so much love from across the Pacific.

[02:01:26] And I'll be here listening for the next 400 EPs.

[02:01:28] Love you guys. Bye.

[02:01:31] Love you.

[02:01:32] On win. Oh, man.

[02:01:35] Nice. It's good stuff.

[02:01:38] You know, she mentioned she was like,

[02:01:40] who are Jason and Karen from the Walking Dead Cast?

[02:01:43] And that's exactly why our podcast is called that because people searching

[02:01:47] for the Walking Dead Cast I thought would find us.

[02:01:52] Seriously, you intended that?

[02:01:55] Yeah, I mean, that's why it used to be dead cast as one word.

[02:01:59] Dead cast.

[02:02:00] And let's separate those out just in case it helps with Google searches.

[02:02:04] That's too funny.

[02:02:08] I mean, I think you helped me with that decision because I remember saying,

[02:02:11] should we call it the Walking Dead Cast or the podcasting dead or something like

[02:02:14] that? And I think you're like, I would just do Walking Dead Cast.

[02:02:18] But clever boy on when I love you so much.

[02:02:22] Yeah. Wow.

[02:02:24] Yep. Thank you.

[02:02:26] OK, she's wonderful.

[02:02:27] Yeah, here's the next one.

[02:02:29] Hey, Jason and Karen, thanks for 10 zombie filled years.

[02:02:34] I haven't been around since the beginning of the podcast.

[02:02:38] I've only been around a couple of years.

[02:02:40] And one of my best memories is, of course, Karen's wonderful infectious laugh.

[02:02:48] And I think the best moment was

[02:02:51] when we had the Game of Thrones

[02:02:56] finale party and we're watching it and the

[02:03:01] lightning is going in the background and it was it was everybody together.

[02:03:06] It was just a really neat, amazing group.

[02:03:13] And I just want to say to Jason, you've created a great community.

[02:03:17] Hopefully there'll be 10 more years of the Walking Dead.

[02:03:21] So when Judith becomes middle aged or whatever they do to her,

[02:03:27] she'll be running the show hopefully and hopefully you'll be there to podcast about

[02:03:33] it. Congratulations.

[02:03:34] And hopefully we have 10 more great years.

[02:03:39] That's Alex who I'm shocked, did not say, did not mention the time that we were

[02:03:45] all at a restaurant and I left without paying my bill because he always.

[02:03:52] I did pay it back later, Alex.

[02:03:54] No, that was really sweet.

[02:03:55] Thank you.

[02:03:56] Thank you, Alex. Awesome.

[02:03:59] Here's another one.

[02:04:00] Hey, Jason and revolving door of co-hosts.

[02:04:05] Yeah, sorry, that's mean.

[02:04:06] Of course. Of course.

[02:04:08] I'm just making fun.

[02:04:09] Jason and Karen and Lucy and everyone else who has ever sat in the co-host

[02:04:14] chair, it's me and Jason from the Talking Dead.

[02:04:17] Yeah. Congratulations.

[02:04:19] We're here to just say congrats on your

[02:04:23] 400th episode that's coming up really soon.

[02:04:26] Actually, it's probably happening right now.

[02:04:28] And 10th anniversary.

[02:04:30] And 10th anniversary.

[02:04:31] That's fantastic.

[02:04:32] It's a massive achievement.

[02:04:33] I mean, when you consider that most podcasts only get past,

[02:04:37] I mean, they don't even make it past like episode one or two.

[02:04:40] Seven? Yeah.

[02:04:41] I think we had a record of seven in previous podcasts.

[02:04:44] I don't know, but they don't go very far.

[02:04:46] But to get to 400 is amazing and 10 years is amazing.

[02:04:51] And we just wanted to say congrats and keep doing it.

[02:04:55] And the other thing is we've podcasted together many times,

[02:05:00] all of us, right?

[02:05:02] To recap The Walking Dead every season.

[02:05:04] And that's one of the most fun episodes we do every year.

[02:05:07] Absolutely. So much fun.

[02:05:09] And then I've spent some time podcasting with Jason on other shows too.

[02:05:14] So we've we've sat in the mic in front of the mics together for many, many hours.

[02:05:20] And it's it's always awesome.

[02:05:22] And, you know, it's just it's just amazing that you guys made it so far.

[02:05:27] So congratulations and keep it going.

[02:05:31] Yeah. And here's to another 10 episodes and another 400 years of podcasting.

[02:05:37] Exactly. Well done.

[02:05:39] Well done. All right.

[02:05:40] We'll talk to you later and we will be listening, of course.

[02:05:44] Thanks, guys.

[02:05:47] Oh, so our season and our

[02:05:52] episodes were always so much fun to do with these guys.

[02:05:55] Yeah. And the best.

[02:05:57] Yeah. And speaking of that, you know, as I mentioned,

[02:06:00] the the Comic Con Walking Dead panels happen today.

[02:06:04] And so they announced, I don't know if you know this, Lucy,

[02:06:06] but the season 10 finale is going to be aired on October 4th.

[02:06:10] Oh, I suppose that's when the series would have started.

[02:06:13] I know. So you know what else they announced?

[02:06:16] Like they're going to do, I think, six more episodes in season 10.

[02:06:21] So it's weird.

[02:06:23] But they're not going to air until 2021 or something.

[02:06:26] So they're doing some weird things.

[02:06:28] I'll get my story straight for the next episode that we do or you guys can check

[02:06:32] online, but they're extending season 10 to 22 episodes, I believe.

[02:06:37] But this what was going to be the finale will air on October 4th.

[02:06:41] So we have to decide.

[02:06:44] I mean, Lucy, this is going to be your first time doing the

[02:06:47] crossover with Talking Dead and the wrap up crossover.

[02:06:51] It's going to be fun.

[02:06:52] But we have to decide, I guess, we'll wait till the whole season's over and then

[02:06:56] do it then. Right? I guess so.

[02:06:58] I am I'd heard a rumor spoiler alert for the next 10 seconds.

[02:07:02] If you don't want to hear that there's going to be another time jump.

[02:07:05] So I wonder if that's what the extension is about.

[02:07:08] Like they're going to extend it to a point and then 11 will be a time

[02:07:10] jump. But yeah, that's weird because I didn't know that handle that with Judith.

[02:07:15] Unless it was either a new actress or not that big of a time jump, you know?

[02:07:20] Maybe it'll be just enough time jumps to explain why Judith is a foot taller

[02:07:25] since kids grow so fast.

[02:07:26] Bring back him.

[02:07:28] Sarah Wayne Callie says like growing up Judith and be like, oh, hey, Judith.

[02:07:34] Yeah, I bet you that's it.

[02:07:35] You know, I bet it's just because they have not filmed for a while and

[02:07:39] she's growing because she's a little kid that they'll just do it.

[02:07:42] That would make a lot of sense actually.

[02:07:43] Yeah, I doubt they would want to lose Kayleigh Fleming.

[02:07:46] She's so good.

[02:07:47] Oh, she's wonderful. She's really cute.

[02:07:50] OK, great to hear from Chris and Jason.

[02:07:53] Here's here's the next one.

[02:07:55] Hey, walking dead cast.

[02:07:57] This is Daphne.

[02:07:58] I wanted to call in and wish you all a very happy 10 year anniversary.

[02:08:04] It's been so much fun to listen to Karen and Jason

[02:08:08] and also Lucy and Jason talk about all things walking dead, whether it be the show

[02:08:15] or news or comics.

[02:08:18] It's been wonderful.

[02:08:19] And I look forward to many, many more episodes of fun over the next 10 years.

[02:08:26] So happy anniversary, guys.

[02:08:28] Thanks to all of you who make the show possible.

[02:08:30] And I look forward to the next episode.

[02:08:33] Thanks, guys.

[02:08:35] Thanks, Daphne.

[02:08:36] Oh, Daphne.

[02:08:37] Yeah, that is awesome.

[02:08:39] Yep, she's a relatively new addition of the group, but she just came in and

[02:08:44] started volunteering to host Trivie Nights and just do different things to make it

[02:08:49] super fun and it's been great.

[02:08:52] She's amazing.

[02:08:53] I when you said she was new, I'm like, no, Daphne's been here like forever.

[02:08:57] Then I'm like, oh, actually, yeah, no, she's yeah.

[02:08:59] Relatively.

[02:09:01] Yeah.

[02:09:02] Here's see if you can tell who this is.

[02:09:06] Hi, Jason, Karen and Lucy.

[02:09:07] This is Derek from Dublin.

[02:09:09] I wanted to say a huge congratulations to all of you on the four hundredth episode

[02:09:13] of The Walking Dead cast and 10 years of podcasting.

[02:09:17] Congratulations.

[02:09:18] It's still one of my favorite podcasts that I've ever listened to.

[02:09:20] I really, really enjoy when those episodes pop up in my feed.

[02:09:24] But very lucky to have been able to contribute once or twice over the last

[02:09:27] couple of years as well and make some great friends amongst the wonderful

[02:09:30] Zed heads and yourselves over that time as well.

[02:09:33] Congratulations.

[02:09:35] Looking forward to many more years of podcasting,

[02:09:37] even if The Walking Dead does eventually finish, hopefully there'll be lots more

[02:09:41] to hear from all of you in the future.

[02:09:43] Speak to you soon.

[02:09:45] Oh, Derek.

[02:09:47] He's lovely.

[02:09:49] Yeah, I have hearts coming out of my chest right now.

[02:09:51] I know, I know.

[02:09:53] I'm spewing rainbows and happiness.

[02:09:58] All right, here's another one.

[02:10:01] Hey, Jason, Karen and Lucy.

[02:10:04] This is Gemma calling from South Wales.

[02:10:07] I just wanted to say happy four hundredth episode and 10 year anniversary.

[02:10:14] It's an amazing achievement.

[02:10:16] You're so proud of yourself.

[02:10:19] You know, as you know, I'm a huge fan of the podcast.

[02:10:22] And every time I get a new episode in my feed, I get so excited because it

[02:10:27] just makes my day.

[02:10:29] I'm a busy mum of four, as I might have mentioned, and just getting a new podcast

[02:10:35] from you guys is just it makes things a lot better,

[02:10:38] especially during stressful days and doing this lockdown.

[02:10:42] I just really love seeing a new podcast and listening to the whole thing and

[02:10:46] yeah, listening to thoughts and stuff and just brilliant.

[02:10:51] Also, I've watched Walking Dead from the beginning almost.

[02:10:55] I think it aired January 2011 in the UK.

[02:11:00] And I was I just had my first son in July of 2010, so I was home on my train to see

[02:11:08] leave and I remember thinking, oh, I don't really want to watch a zombie show

[02:11:13] because I hate zombies.

[02:11:15] But I saw that Andrew Lincoln was in it, so I gave it a go.

[02:11:19] And I think from the first like 10 minutes, I was totally invested.

[02:11:23] I just totally fell in love with him, with Rick, as you know, and this story.

[02:11:28] And it was amazing.

[02:11:30] I don't think I've ever done.

[02:11:32] I don't have ever fell in love with show as quickly other than I think lost

[02:11:37] and Buffy, obviously.

[02:11:38] But yeah, Walking Dead is like it's just one of my top shows of all time.

[02:11:43] And I just love when the season is on and then the podcast to follow.

[02:11:47] It just makes my day really.

[02:11:49] I'm such a big fan.

[02:11:50] I'm probably the biggest fan of the show that doesn't like zombies.

[02:11:56] I kind of have on it for a sense, but I've gone used to them, but it's more of

[02:12:01] the human story that I connect to and the characters I love and know so well.

[02:12:08] Yeah, so just keep doing what you're doing, guys.

[02:12:11] I just, you know, I'd love listening to you.

[02:12:13] Lucy, I love listening to you because you're from Scotland.

[02:12:17] And I think we met once at Walk of Stalker Con as well.

[02:12:21] So that's nice that I can put I know what you look like and that's nice.

[02:12:26] So yeah, because it's nice to keep it all within the UK.

[02:12:32] Yeah, so stay safe.

[02:12:34] And I look forward to more podcasts and I'll see you soon.

[02:12:38] Thanks. Bye.

[02:12:40] Oh, that's lovely.

[02:12:41] Thanks, Gemma.

[02:12:43] Yeah, it's been great having Gemma's listener for such a long time.

[02:12:48] And she always writes in and has cool things to say.

[02:12:51] And how much he loves Rick.

[02:12:54] I love your accent as well.

[02:12:55] I love a Wilsh accent.

[02:12:58] Yeah, that pilot was such a good pilot.

[02:13:00] I mean, this show started so strong and it was mostly him.

[02:13:03] Yep.

[02:13:04] All right, here's the next one.

[02:13:07] Hey, Jason. Hey, Karen.

[02:13:09] This is Greg.

[02:13:10] Man, 10 years.

[02:13:12] 10 years, 400 episodes.

[02:13:14] That is awesome.

[02:13:16] Just wanted to tell you guys congratulations.

[02:13:20] And I saw it sticking anything out for 10 years is pretty amazing.

[02:13:28] Let alone something that you're serving up on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to the masses.

[02:13:35] I you guys have had such a positive influence in my life, not just you guys,

[02:13:43] but all the people who all the Zed had community and whatnot.

[02:13:47] I just want to say that I really appreciate it and look forward to.

[02:13:52] Maybe not in their 10, but continuing to be a listener and or friends for

[02:13:59] three years to come.

[02:14:01] Have a good one.

[02:14:03] So if nine years comes up and we're still friends,

[02:14:06] I feel like Greg's going to be like, that's enough.

[02:14:08] That's great.

[02:14:10] Got a time limitation.

[02:14:11] He's like.

[02:14:13] I love Greg.

[02:14:14] Greg's a great guy.

[02:14:15] He's great.

[02:14:16] We did a great Kingdom podcast with Greg.

[02:14:19] Right. Yeah.

[02:14:20] He gets hosted and he did with Kat dispatches from elsewhere podcast

[02:14:27] that we've been releasing on our Patreon feed too.

[02:14:30] That was cool.

[02:14:31] Yeah.

[02:14:32] Because he's got a great podcast voice.

[02:14:34] He does.

[02:14:35] Here's Ian from the UK.

[02:14:38] Hello, walking deadcast.

[02:14:40] This is Ian, listener from the UK.

[02:14:44] I just wanted to send the message to

[02:14:46] say thank you for all the podcasts you've done over all the years.

[02:14:51] I've been listening pretty much since the start.

[02:14:55] I think I read an article about got into things.

[02:14:57] I read an article.

[02:14:58] I think it was on comic book resources way back in 2010

[02:15:02] that linked to an interview that a new podcast had done with Charlie Adler.

[02:15:07] I think that was your seventh podcast, number seven before the show itself had started.

[02:15:15] And I wanted to listen to that being a fan of the comic.

[02:15:18] So I

[02:15:21] my host CD wouldn't let me go in straight number seven.

[02:15:23] So I went back to podcast number one and listened one through to seven.

[02:15:26] And then I kept up with you pretty much week on week as soon as things come out.

[02:15:31] I do my best to listen to them.

[02:15:32] So yeah, listen right from episode one right to episode four hundred.

[02:15:36] So felt I should send the messages to say thank you very much for everything you've done.

[02:15:42] I was a guest on podcast number 29 way, way, way between seasons one and two.

[02:15:48] Thanks again for having me on then.

[02:15:50] Thanks for everything you've done since.

[02:15:53] I'm not the most active member on Patreon,

[02:15:57] although I do chip in a little bit there and I am on the groups.

[02:16:01] But I'm not the most active member and I don't send a lot of messages into you guys.

[02:16:05] But I've always got your back.

[02:16:07] I will always be there. I'll always be listening to you.

[02:16:10] So yeah, thank you, Jason.

[02:16:12] Thank you, Karen. Thank you, Lucy.

[02:16:13] Thank you all the co-hosts over all the years.

[02:16:16] You keep making them and we will keep listening to them.

[02:16:20] Cheers, guys. Congratulations.

[02:16:21] White.

[02:16:23] Thanks. Lovely, lovely message.

[02:16:27] Yeah, yeah, we had him on.

[02:16:29] I forget what it was, but it was something about a listener coming on and doing a top

[02:16:33] five with us, I think, and Ian got to do it.

[02:16:36] Yeah. And he's just been great over the years.

[02:16:38] And he actually won a Walker Stalker ticket,

[02:16:40] but he never claimed it.

[02:16:41] And now Walker Stalker is in the grave.

[02:16:45] So we have to fly.

[02:16:48] I guess we have to fly Ian somewhere.

[02:16:53] We'll wait till the pandemic's over, then we'll figure it out.

[02:16:57] All right, here's the next one.

[02:17:02] Holy crap, 10 years spent listening to you guys.

[02:17:06] That is awesome.

[02:17:08] I don't regret a second of it.

[02:17:11] Congratulations and thanks for putting our little Zed family together.

[02:17:16] Love you guys.

[02:17:17] That's Jamie Dimick, by the way.

[02:17:21] Said something like I hate sending voicemails, but I love you guys.

[02:17:25] So I'm doing it or something like that.

[02:17:27] Wow.

[02:17:29] It was nice.

[02:17:30] Jamie actually Lucy, you mentioned

[02:17:33] that somebody knew of you and Jamie, my friend, John,

[02:17:38] who I've known for years, told me he was back east and his he's like,

[02:17:44] you're you're a you're a celebrity.

[02:17:46] My friends back east was your podcast and that was Jamie Dimick.

[02:17:49] No way, the world is so small.

[02:17:56] This next one is from Josh Svejanovich or something like that,

[02:18:00] who is a band teacher and he's been a listener for a while.

[02:18:03] And I'm excited to listen because I don't even think he's ever called in before.

[02:18:06] So here it is.

[02:18:08] Hey, Jason and Karen and the whole podcast, like a family.

[02:18:12] This is Josh Svejanovich from North Carolina, just sending you a quick voice memo

[02:18:17] to say congratulations on 10 years and 400 podcasts.

[02:18:21] That's incredible.

[02:18:23] I have been listening to you guys for just about the entire run.

[02:18:27] I found your podcast through actually the Talking Dad podcast and the work

[02:18:33] you guys have done together and I've been listening and writing and commenting

[02:18:37] really ever since.

[02:18:40] I I've been teaching public public school

[02:18:43] band now for just finished my eleventh year and

[02:18:47] been listening to you guys for my entire career pretty much.

[02:18:51] There are major milestones in my professional life that I can equate

[02:18:57] two moments in both The Walking Dead TV show and your podcast.

[02:19:02] Also, my two sons, Henry and Benjamin,

[02:19:05] are about the same age as Nico and Bodie.

[02:19:08] Henry and Ben just turned eight or respectively.

[02:19:11] So it's been a lot of fun,

[02:19:13] almost like watching and experiencing our kids growing up for the length of this

[02:19:20] podcast. So I just wanted to take a second and thank you guys for all you've

[02:19:25] done. Thank you guys for always interacting with the fans as much as you do.

[02:19:30] And including us in the podcast.

[02:19:33] It's really a wonderful community you guys have built.

[02:19:35] And I just want to say keep it going and congratulations again.

[02:19:42] Those are two to Walking Dead kid names, Henry and Benjamin.

[02:19:47] That's cute.

[02:19:52] Oh, it's so great.

[02:19:53] Josh, thank you, Josh.

[02:19:55] Thank you.

[02:19:57] All right. Here's the next one.

[02:19:58] Hi, Jason and Karen.

[02:20:00] This is Lyra from Denver.

[02:20:01] I'm just calling to wish you both a happy, happy 10th anniversary.

[02:20:06] You guys were one of the OG podcasts that I listened to as well as the one

[02:20:11] of the original Walking Dead podcasts.

[02:20:14] You guys have been such a great company for so long.

[02:20:19] And I appreciate everything you've done to build up a podcast,

[02:20:25] build up this community and eventually introduce us to more wonderful

[02:20:29] podcasters like Rima, Lucy, David, Melissa, Mr.

[02:20:33] Blog and so many others who have guest hosted on your show that I want to say

[02:20:39] just thank you.

[02:20:41] And here's to another 10 years maybe.

[02:20:44] Happy anniversary.

[02:20:46] Thanks, Laura.

[02:20:49] Laura, I think of when I think of Laura, I think how I think she has kind

[02:20:54] of cool and edgy tastes and also that when she first started to write in,

[02:21:00] I think she would like challenge my opinions a lot.

[02:21:03] And I found that kind of intriguing.

[02:21:07] Yeah.

[02:21:08] That was cool.

[02:21:09] I asked her to come and I wanted her to come and podcast about fear

[02:21:14] with me when I needed a co-host back when it was still great in season three.

[02:21:19] But she just is so busy that she couldn't find the time.

[02:21:22] But that almost happened.

[02:21:24] Anyway, she's great.

[02:21:26] She's the other founder of the John Dory fan club.

[02:21:30] Yeah.

[02:21:31] Yeah, the weird thing Karen about the new fear is they actually have some really

[02:21:37] good characters, but like John Dory is one of them.

[02:21:42] He's kind of shy and endearing cowboy type.

[02:21:46] But the storylines are not very good.

[02:21:49] Yeah.

[02:21:51] But I kind of now I want to watch it just so I can listen to the two of you.

[02:21:56] Yeah, break it down.

[02:21:58] Yeah, do it.

[02:22:00] It's funny.

[02:22:01] OK, we've got a few more.

[02:22:02] Here's the next one.

[02:22:03] Hello, Jason and Karen and the Walking Dead cast.

[02:22:07] Congratulations on 10 years of the Walking Dead cast.

[02:22:12] I am. Oh, this is Steve.

[02:22:14] And in this, I think Walking Dead cast was really the first real

[02:22:19] podcast that I ever listened to.

[02:22:22] I mean, I listened to a couple of of like a comedian do like a recording of a show

[02:22:28] and some of the radio shows that were putting out as podcasts or on podcast players.

[02:22:33] But this was the Walking Dead cast was the very first real podcast about a TV

[02:22:38] show that I ever listened to and that I ever sent feedback to.

[02:22:43] And you have created the Zed heads group, which has

[02:22:47] been countless hours and I have so many new friends from the Zed head group.

[02:22:54] And just love everything that you guys have done.

[02:22:58] So thank you so much for your show.

[02:23:02] Thank you so much for walking dead cast and I can't wait for 10 more years.

[02:23:08] And I can't wait for the next time we can all actually get together and have

[02:23:12] an in person meeting with with all the friends that I've missed of the Zoom

[02:23:17] calls and things are great.

[02:23:19] But yeah, so congratulations on 10 years walking dead cast.

[02:23:25] And here's 10 more.

[02:23:26] See you later.

[02:23:28] Thank you.

[02:23:29] Steve was like the one person who he didn't need to say who he is because all

[02:23:34] the listeners know.

[02:23:36] Yeah, because Steve calls into just about every one of our podcasting

[02:23:41] podcasts, which I think is so awesome.

[02:23:43] Like we can always count on you, Steve.

[02:23:45] And I'm glad you're so engaged and Steve actually has his own.

[02:23:48] Like a lot of listeners have started their own podcasts and Steve and Mark Kirkman

[02:23:53] and do the panels to pixels podcast where they talk about like things that have

[02:23:56] been adapted for TV and movies and stuff like that.

[02:23:59] Mm hmm.

[02:24:01] Here's another one.

[02:24:07] Hi, Jason and Karen, Lucy, Rima, David, Mr.

[02:24:13] Blog, all of the amazing guest hosts and listeners of the walking dead cast.

[02:24:18] Thank you all for forming a little village of wonderful

[02:24:23] and wonderfully diverse people in these varying trying times that we've had.

[02:24:30] Our Zedhead community has really been a beacon of light for me.

[02:24:34] And I'm so grateful to be a part of this little rebel alliance we have going here.

[02:24:40] Thank you again and congratulations.

[02:24:44] It's a really big milestone and I'm so glad to have

[02:24:51] taken this journey with you.

[02:24:53] Thanks.

[02:24:54] That's Wendy, by the way.

[02:24:55] Wendy. Love her.

[02:24:58] Yeah.

[02:24:59] Wendy's awesome.

[02:25:01] Thank you for sending that, Wendy.

[02:25:03] Yeah.

[02:25:04] Wendy's the best.

[02:25:05] OK, here we got three more.

[02:25:07] Here's another one.

[02:25:09] Hey, Walking Dead Cast.

[02:25:11] It's Karen. She just wanted to say a big congratulations on 400 episodes and 10 years.

[02:25:17] Wow.

[02:25:18] Actually, not surprised that you guys have been this successful.

[02:25:23] I want to thank everybody who has contributed

[02:25:24] to the cast like Lucy, Rima, Mr.

[02:25:27] Blog and Derek, many others.

[02:25:30] But of course it all comes down to Jason and Karen.

[02:25:33] I loved your guys' thoughtful analyses, discussions, debates and the chemistry

[02:25:38] that you guys have as friends and co-hosts has no doubt brought a lot of people to

[02:25:43] enjoy the show. Of course, Karen's laugh is the icing on the cake.

[02:25:48] You guys have built a really, really special community here and have only

[02:25:52] enhanced my appreciation for the TV show.

[02:25:56] So thanks so much and maybe we'll make it to 500.

[02:26:01] Technically I've never called in, so here's my walker sound.

[02:26:11] Okay, sending love.

[02:26:12] Be well and safe out there and don't get bit.

[02:26:18] She is completely right.

[02:26:20] She is completely right.

[02:26:21] You guys are awesome.

[02:26:24] Oh, Karen, thank you.

[02:26:26] She, yeah, Karen's cool.

[02:26:28] She's

[02:26:30] she writes in really thoughtful stuff all the time.

[02:26:34] And she's one of the listeners that

[02:26:36] consistently makes me sort of reevaluate and think more deeply.

[02:26:40] She's going through some really bad times right now.

[02:26:43] She just had heart surgery and she's in the hospital.

[02:26:46] So, oh, Karen, lots of love to you.

[02:26:49] Send you love.

[02:26:50] Yeah. Wow. Get better soon.

[02:26:53] Lots of love.

[02:26:55] I'm kissing the microphone.

[02:26:57] Blowing kisses.

[02:26:58] Here's Mr. Mark Kirkman.

[02:27:01] Wow. Mark.

[02:27:02] Ten years.

[02:27:04] Mark Kirkman here.

[02:27:05] Jason and Karen started this off about 10 years ago.

[02:27:09] Ten years. I can't believe that.

[02:27:11] Them doing podcasting.

[02:27:13] It's amazing.

[02:27:14] And they've influenced and changed so much over the years and have created such a

[02:27:20] community with the Patreon and I've always enjoyed their podcasts.

[02:27:25] And I always dreamt and thought of doing that myself over the time of listening

[02:27:30] to them, and that influenced me

[02:27:34] to do one myself as well as create just like they do.

[02:27:39] But it enabled me with the Patreon to actually meet so many great friends

[02:27:46] that I'm going to make a list and obviously I'm going to leave some people out

[02:27:50] that I should have in there, but I love them so much and I'm pretty sure

[02:27:55] I'm going to forget some people, but please don't hold me to it.

[02:27:58] That would be Steve, Kristen,

[02:28:01] Pake Ellen, CatCraft, Benbeck, Daphne,

[02:28:05] Alex, Gillian, Jamie, Derek, Rima, Sean, Rachel, Lara, Fran and Franca.

[02:28:12] And you've created such a community within the Patreon that I'm so

[02:28:17] grateful for for the fact that we found each other.

[02:28:21] We found friends, something that we could all be communal about.

[02:28:24] And when we do actually come together, it says if we never met each other

[02:28:29] before, we knew each other and that's how it felt when I first met everybody

[02:28:35] at that first barbecue with Adavillinos.

[02:28:38] And it's amazing.

[02:28:40] So here's to another 10 years to you guys.

[02:28:44] Keep that content going.

[02:28:47] It's all about passion, about what you love talking about with your friends

[02:28:51] and people that you care about and the stuff that you care about.

[02:28:55] And I just want to say thank you to Jason and Karen to actually starting all of this

[02:29:00] and Jason's devotion to his network, to his podcasting and to his friends.

[02:29:07] And thank you all, all my friends that are out there through the Patreon

[02:29:11] and those who listen to Jason as well.

[02:29:15] Thank you, Jason.

[02:29:16] Oh, yes.

[02:29:18] It's nice.

[02:29:19] Thanks, Mark.

[02:29:20] Wonderful.

[02:29:21] Mark, I still have my Doctor Who figures that you and Avalino got me in my office

[02:29:26] for teaching and my students always comment on them.

[02:29:30] All two Scottish doctors for a Scottish doctor.

[02:29:33] It's lovely.

[02:29:36] Mark's a sweetheart.

[02:29:37] He is wonderful.

[02:29:39] Really lovely.

[02:29:40] OK, we have one more call from Samantha Smith.

[02:29:45] Hey, Jason, Karen, Lucy, Reema and David and all the other amazing guest

[02:29:52] co-hosts throughout the podcasting network.

[02:29:55] Hello from Australia.

[02:29:57] I've listened to you guys for as long as I can remember.

[02:30:01] I started off finding The Walking Dead cast and at the time I thought, oh,

[02:30:06] this is a really cool way to listen to a podcast that about a show that I

[02:30:11] really love.

[02:30:13] But the format was what it did it for me.

[02:30:16] The top three, the top five.

[02:30:18] I loved that format because it wasn't just a play by play of what happened

[02:30:22] through the episode.

[02:30:23] It was like interesting things and things that I didn't even pick up on half

[02:30:27] the time and I wasn't a comic reader, so I didn't know.

[02:30:29] So your guys' insight was exactly what I needed to help understand how

[02:30:35] this show was working and a lot of the things that I didn't understand.

[02:30:39] And then when I found out that you guys were covering Game of Thrones,

[02:30:43] I jumped straight on that.

[02:30:45] Love listening to you guys covering that.

[02:30:49] Then when you guys announced Strange Indeed, I was so excited because I knew

[02:30:56] I was going to hear Reema Jo and her accent, which I just loved.

[02:31:01] And from then from there, I then watched Legion, Westworld or everything

[02:31:07] you guys covered. I was just all over it.

[02:31:09] And I loved hearing you guys break it down, help me out, especially with Westworld

[02:31:14] because, oh my God, I was like a five year old trying to build a train engine

[02:31:19] when I watched that show.

[02:31:21] I had no clue what was going on.

[02:31:22] So thank you guys for covering that.

[02:31:25] I don't always get to send.

[02:31:27] Well, I never actually get to send in voicemails or feedback

[02:31:30] because I'm always a few days behind your recording.

[02:31:33] So I never get in on time.

[02:31:35] But there was one time when you guys said my name and told me to not get bit.

[02:31:41] And it was the highlight of my week, I have to tell you.

[02:31:45] So here's to you guys and the hours of time that you put in for our

[02:31:49] enjoyment and our entertainment.

[02:31:51] Thank you.

[02:31:52] Thank you so much for everything you do.

[02:31:55] We really appreciate it.

[02:31:57] And here's to the next 10 amazing years.

[02:32:00] He is my zombie sound.

[02:32:07] See you guys.

[02:32:10] That is mean, durable, adorable zombie sound.

[02:32:14] I like that one because I don't really know Samantha because as she said,

[02:32:19] she's in Australia, so she, you know, too late for it.

[02:32:23] And so that was, you know, I think I've heard from her a couple of times.

[02:32:27] But that was the first time she's ever called and it was really cool.

[02:32:30] Oh, wow, you're covering all these shows.

[02:32:32] That's such great validation for doing all this stuff.

[02:32:36] That's wonderful.

[02:32:38] Oh, that's so nice.

[02:32:39] Thank you, Sam.

[02:32:40] It's pretty cool to have all those countries represented too.

[02:32:43] We have quite a few.

[02:32:45] Yeah, totally.

[02:32:47] Yeah, if you go in the podcast stats, you can see where people listen.

[02:32:52] And sometimes there's people from like Iraq and I'm like, oh, it must be

[02:32:55] like military guys or something, you know?

[02:32:57] You never know.

[02:32:58] You never know.

[02:32:59] Yeah.

[02:33:00] She mentioned Strange Indeed.

[02:33:02] I, Rima and I, when we covered Lock and Key on there,

[02:33:05] kept joking that we were going to cover British Bake Off when it comes out.

[02:33:09] Oh, that would be strange indeed.

[02:33:10] And I'm like, I told her, I'm like, we should, we should do that.

[02:33:14] Right? We're going to do it.

[02:33:14] She goes, I thought you were kidding.

[02:33:15] I'm like, no, let's do it.

[02:33:17] She's like, I don't know if my listeners will like that.

[02:33:18] And I'm like, come on.

[02:33:20] You love the British Bake Off.

[02:33:22] I just think it'd be so much fun to like complain about the ones we don't

[02:33:26] like and talk about how much we want to eat all the dishes and all that

[02:33:30] kind of stuff.

[02:33:31] I would love if that became like the most controversial podcast we did.

[02:33:35] Like I can see it getting heated.

[02:33:36] I know I've felt big things about the Bake Off in my time.

[02:33:40] So I would love it if that was the one that got us like really kind of very

[02:33:44] tense podcasting, you know?

[02:33:46] Well, obviously we're going to have to come up with content for Walking Dead

[02:33:50] Castle, maybe we'll do anything.

[02:33:54] But man, it's so nice to hear all you guys who called in.

[02:33:57] Thank you. Thank you everybody.

[02:33:59] Thanks, everybody.

[02:34:00] I am. Thank you so much.

[02:34:02] I'm smiling. My cheeks hurt.

[02:34:03] I'm smiling so much.

[02:34:04] Thank you.

[02:34:05] It's good stuff.

[02:34:12] All right, that's our decade of shows.

[02:34:15] Thanks for listening, everybody.

[02:34:17] Thanks, everybody.

[02:34:18] Thank you so much.

[02:34:20] Yeah, so the season 10 finale airs on October 4th, although I don't think

[02:34:26] it's actually a finale since they're extending the season.

[02:34:29] So we will figure out stuff to do in the meantime.

[02:34:35] We're going to...

[02:34:36] Rima and Sean and I are going to do our fourth annual Comic Con special,

[02:34:41] probably next...

[02:34:42] Brilliant.

[02:34:43] Yeah, you guys, either one of you is welcome to join us for that.

[02:34:46] But we've been doing those for three years in a row.

[02:34:47] It's pretty fun to just talk about the things that came out at Comic Con

[02:34:50] that we're most excited about.

[02:34:51] So we'll be doing that.

[02:34:53] If you guys want to give us a call, you can reach us at 650-485-DEAD.

[02:34:57] That's 650-485-3323.

[02:35:00] You can always send an email to Brainsedpodcastica.com.

[02:35:05] You can find us on the web at facebook.com.

[02:35:08] Slash, Deadcast.

[02:35:10] And be sure to check out the other shows at podcastica.com.

[02:35:14] The one I'm working on right now is House Podcastica.

[02:35:18] That in case it's a little confusing is another podcast that I do.

[02:35:21] It's basically my other podcast we're doing Cobra Kai right now,

[02:35:24] which is really fun.

[02:35:25] It's kind of an antidote to all these heavy times.

[02:35:28] And it's coming over to Netflix.

[02:35:30] So we actually decided to wait for season two until it comes out on August 28.

[02:35:35] So in the meantime, we're just covering the Karate Kid movies.

[02:35:38] Fun.

[02:35:39] So I recommend people checking that out.

[02:35:42] I say I finally, finally, finally, I'm watching The Mandalorian.

[02:35:48] Yeah, how far are you and are you?

[02:35:50] I'm far enough in to know that I would die for baby Yoda.

[02:35:53] Like I would actually die for him.

[02:35:56] We had an argument about this, like,

[02:35:58] Peter was sitting on the sofa, there's something happens in episode three where

[02:36:03] it looks like baby Yoda is going to be in peril and I teared up and started being

[02:36:07] like, why aren't you doing anything?

[02:36:08] If something happens to him, it's going to be your fault.

[02:36:11] Peter's like, it's a show.

[02:36:13] So I'm pretty invested.

[02:36:15] Wow.

[02:36:17] Yeah, so that is another show.

[02:36:21] Why at least he's bringing this up as we covered it on House Podcastica.

[02:36:24] Me and my friend Richard and Chris from the Talking Dead podcast,

[02:36:29] same crew that did the Evil Dead cast.

[02:36:31] And that season two is supposed to come out in October and we're going to jump

[02:36:35] back on that for that too.

[02:36:37] I can't wait to go back and listen.

[02:36:38] I'm really excited.

[02:36:39] It's still good.

[02:36:41] This episode is made possible by Patreon supporters like Lara Dwight and

[02:36:46] when Jamie Cecily, Rene Derek, David Jackie, Danette Vanessa, Remy, Mark,

[02:36:52] Martha, Wendy, Megan, Tammy, Leanne, Karen, Shelley, Ali, David, Christy,

[02:36:57] Mads, Natalie, Cindy, Steve, Jocelyn, Laura,

[02:37:01] Sean, Nicole, Steph, Marcy, Priscilla, Lauren,

[02:37:05] Paik, Evan, Rebecca, Bryson, Kim, Ben, Don, Matt.

[02:37:09] And that's just like a few of you guys.

[02:37:13] Thank you so much for everyone who's helped support this passion of mine by

[02:37:17] pledging at patreon.com slash Jason and Karen.

[02:37:21] People who are enjoying hearing Karen right now and missing her.

[02:37:26] If you go pledge five dollars a month or more,

[02:37:29] you'll hear Karen and I goofing around every month on our Jason and Karen show.

[02:37:32] And you'll get access to all the previous episodes we did.

[02:37:35] That's super fun.

[02:37:36] I love doing that show.

[02:37:39] Yeah, because we get to talk about whatever we want.

[02:37:43] Also, don't forget to go to vote.org.

[02:37:50] Check your voting status.

[02:37:52] Whether you're dead or undead.

[02:37:54] Yeah, that's fine.

[02:37:56] All right, that's our show.

[02:37:58] Thanks for listening.

[02:37:59] Happy anniversary.
