603: "Moulin Rouge" Listener Feedback

Lovely to read all your messages this week, as usual, and we especially appreciate you expressing support for our occasional tangents :) Merci. Also, I thought the reaction to Daryl and Isabelle’s kiss would be more divided. I mean it was divided, but not as much as I thought.

[00:01:36] Hey Zad Heads, welcome to the podcast. I'm Jason.

[00:01:39] And I'm Lucy.

[00:01:41] I'm Jason. And we're going through your feedback for The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, Season 2, Episode 2, Moulin Rouge.

[00:01:48] Moulin Rouge.

[00:01:50] Moulin Rouge.

[00:01:51] Well.

[00:01:52] So what'd you think of it? No, I'm just kidding.

[00:01:54] Yeah.

[00:01:55] Let's just do the whole thing again.

[00:01:57] Well, first up, we have Dina, who I think is going to be on the next episode.

[00:02:01] Yeah, maybe that's why she wrote her world record shortest message.

[00:02:06] Well, Dina says,

[00:02:07] I jumped off the couch and screamed, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. If I can't have him, Isabel can. Please, oh god of Rubik's Cube, don't let her die.

[00:02:16] Prayer noted.

[00:02:17] I feel like you may end up being disappointed, Dina.

[00:02:20] Yay.

[00:02:22] We'll see.

[00:02:23] Is that going to Spain? We'll see.

[00:02:25] Alma Contreras, on the other hand, says, nope, I definitely don't like Daryl kissing is a angry emoji. No, no, just no. Carol is about to F shit up.

[00:02:37] I wonder if that's related, like she's going to separate them or something.

[00:02:41] Janae thinks Daryl is bad. She has no idea about our girl muscle emoji. I can't wait to see how stuff goes down.

[00:02:48] Mm-hmm.

[00:02:49] Yeah.

[00:02:52] Elena from Lowell, or would you say Lowell?

[00:02:55] I would say Lowell because I know that's how it's pronounced.

[00:02:58] There you go. Okay, no one that I would pronounce it correctly.

[00:03:01] Elena from Lowell says,

[00:03:04] They kissed! And bog people! Magnifique!

[00:03:08] And post-apocalyptic Paris is still more beautiful than pretty much anywhere else in the world.

[00:03:14] Yep.

[00:03:15] Yeah.

[00:03:16] Yep, that's true. It was very beautiful.

[00:03:18] Uh, Jeff, I don't know how to say this, Hecker?

[00:03:22] Uh, I've lived, no, I'm not. I just pronounced it correctly.

[00:03:26] And, uh, he says, just watch episode two. I thought Carol was going to lead Hannah to the plane and say,

[00:03:33] Hey, go look at these flowers over here. I felt bad for Hannah, but she was unstable and would not have been trustworthy.

[00:03:41] Hmm.

[00:03:42] I don't know.

[00:03:44] There's a lot of people in The Walking Dead who started off bad and became good.

[00:03:49] Look at Dwight.

[00:03:51] Indeed.

[00:03:51] I could absolutely see Hannah being one of those.

[00:03:54] Negan, however, is not a good example.

[00:03:57] Just kidding.

[00:03:59] Uh, he goes on, looks like we will get Carol trying to influence Codron to rebel and meeting Jenae.

[00:04:05] An unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

[00:04:09] Looking forward to what's next and hearing y'all's thoughts.

[00:04:11] That's interesting. Two people looking forward to Carol meeting Jenae.

[00:04:15] Okay. Here's a message. Here's a call from Lisa Bartley.

[00:04:19] Hey guys, Lisa in North Carolina here. Uh, forget about the show for a second. I want to be friends with you guys so bad.

[00:04:26] Your conversation was incredible. I loved everything you said. Everything you said was right.

[00:04:30] You're championing women's rights and humans rights and science and logic and also love and fun and joy.

[00:04:37] I love you guys so much.

[00:04:38] Um, this show is great. And, uh, if you live in North Carolina, like me, everybody, please vote.

[00:04:44] Okay. Love you guys. Bye.

[00:04:46] Yeah, that was so great.

[00:04:47] No, no, it's perfect. Wonderful.

[00:04:49] Thank you, Lisa. That was really, really fun.

[00:04:52] And if you, if we could all teleport to a bar, it would be super fun to have a drink together.

[00:04:57] Oh my God. That would be amazing.

[00:04:58] Especially because we saw some of Lisa's holiday photos.

[00:05:01] Like, what?

[00:05:03] Yeah, she went, well, that's in her next message here, but she, she just spent some time in France and sent along some beautiful pre-apocalyptic photos of France and Paris.

[00:05:12] If anything, it looked too shiny.

[00:05:13] I was wanting a bit of, like, death and destruction.

[00:05:16] I was like, I mean, it's nice, but like, where's the derelict, you know?

[00:05:22] Um, so Lisa says, oh, and also, and hi again, I was so excited to tell you guys I loved your convo that I forgot to say something else about the show.

[00:05:29] I love watching the little inside the episode things afterwards.

[00:05:32] Oh, I've not seen any of these yet.

[00:05:34] I'm going to go and shoot them after.

[00:05:35] Um, because I'm fascinated with where they film.

[00:05:38] I feel so lucky.

[00:05:39] I just got back from a beautiful France trip and it really does look like they took the apocalypse and just laid it over the real France.

[00:05:45] The set design is great.

[00:05:47] Loving that part about the show especially.

[00:05:49] Of all the spinoffs or even the flagship, this is the most beautiful for sure.

[00:05:53] Okay.

[00:05:54] Bye for real.

[00:05:54] Love the pod.

[00:05:55] Lisa, I couldn't agree more.

[00:05:57] Like, it's so beautiful.

[00:05:59] Like, Paris just looks wonderful and all of France does.

[00:06:01] It's just incredible.

[00:06:03] Yeah, I mean, I was excited to see a zombie show set in Manhattan with Dead City, but then Daryl's show just really took the cake for beauty.

[00:06:14] I feel like they missed a lot of opportunities with Dead City.

[00:06:19] It just looked kind of grungy.

[00:06:20] Like, I don't know, there were bits of it that were cool, but I feel like what we're getting in Europe is like a lot of scope that we're not getting so much.

[00:06:27] They're putting so much attention on just loving what's particular about Europe, the beauty of the architectural landscape and everything.

[00:06:35] It's so great.

[00:06:36] It's just gorgeous.

[00:06:37] Yeah, maybe they'll do more of that with season two of Dead City.

[00:06:40] I hope so.

[00:06:41] I'm actually starting to look forward to it.

[00:06:42] I need to go back and rewatch season one because I wasn't paying as close attention since I wasn't podcasting on it.

[00:06:47] So I just have very vague memories of what was happening there.

[00:06:52] I think you'll make it to episode two before you text me to tell me it's annoying.

[00:06:58] I mean, the scene I remember the most is the annoying scene where he goes out and he's like, okay, I'm doing my Negan show because that's what I do.

[00:07:06] I just put on this mask of Negan, but it really hurts my heart to have to do this.

[00:07:10] Yeah.

[00:07:11] I mean, he's really good with kids, so.

[00:07:13] That's true, except for the ones he's trying to kill.

[00:07:14] Okay, Dodie Sheffield says, so Yoon made Hannah her Tupelak and when she couldn't kill her assigned victim, Carol, she killed her maker instead.

[00:07:26] That is, that's good.

[00:07:28] I like that.

[00:07:28] We didn't say that.

[00:07:29] So Hannah, so we found out that the Tupelak were, are these Inuit mythical creatures that if they couldn't carry out their mission of killing,

[00:07:42] they would come back and kill their maker.

[00:07:44] So she's saying that that's what Hannah was.

[00:07:47] Ooh, I like that.

[00:07:49] That's cool.

[00:07:50] And she goes, wow, even more powerful story when you have that background.

[00:07:53] Thanks for that research, Lucy.

[00:07:55] Enjoying the podcast today.

[00:07:57] She goes, I'd also like to chime in on the sidebar about the decision to not have children.

[00:08:01] I deeply believe that was totally messed up for you guys to talk about.

[00:08:05] No, I'm just kidding.

[00:08:06] She says, I deeply believe that it is the people who decide to have children who need to justify that choice rather than the people who choose not to.

[00:08:15] It should come out of a deep sense of love and a calling to nurture someone into a full life.

[00:08:20] It takes a village to raise children and one can choose just being part of the village.

[00:08:26] That's nice.

[00:08:27] Thank you, Dodie.

[00:08:27] That's really nice.

[00:08:28] That's nice to hear.

[00:08:29] I'm glad that resonated with people.

[00:08:31] Yeah, thank you.

[00:08:32] I'm glad you guys appreciated that.

[00:08:33] It was really funny.

[00:08:34] I mean, that last episode, I felt like led to some real introspection on both our parts.

[00:08:40] And that's another reason why I really liked it probably more than most people did.

[00:08:44] And I've had like three kids since we last spoke.

[00:08:46] Yeah, I mean, you can change your mind.

[00:08:48] It's fine.

[00:08:49] They're real annoying, though.

[00:08:54] Up next is my friend Wyman Owen.

[00:08:56] He says, great people.

[00:08:58] Carol doesn't mix well with people or it's the other way around.

[00:09:01] Anyways, I had a feeling most two Greenland ladies were up to no good.

[00:09:04] I just didn't realize they were looking for a baby daddy.

[00:09:07] Ha ha.

[00:09:08] And now she's inserted herself into the belly of the beast.

[00:09:10] Crazy Carol doing crazy Carol things.

[00:09:13] And yes, the highlight of the episode was Daryl French kissing the French girl in France.

[00:09:18] After that, this episode was kind of meh.

[00:09:20] Sure, it's pushing the story forward, but kind of fell flat.

[00:09:22] Maybe y'all's breakdown will show me something I missed.

[00:09:25] Bye!

[00:09:25] Bye!

[00:09:26] That seems to be the new sign of.

[00:09:27] Bye!

[00:09:28] I know.

[00:09:28] It's so funny.

[00:09:29] I love it.

[00:09:30] And I think it's Renee's fault.

[00:09:33] Thanks, Renee.

[00:09:33] Love it.

[00:09:34] Thanks, Renee.

[00:09:35] So, I don't know if Renee, because Renee hasn't been calling in.

[00:09:37] I don't know if Renee is following along with us still or, and just not as into the Daryl

[00:09:42] show or what, but hopefully you'll at least come back for when we get back to the rewatch.

[00:09:48] Yeah, I hope so.

[00:09:49] But the Greenland, I didn't put this in the news, but I read an interview with showrunner

[00:09:55] David Zabel talking about how, you know, they were just thinking it would be too easy

[00:09:59] just to get Carol straight to France.

[00:10:02] So they had to make some kind of a stopover and they thought Greenland was a common one.

[00:10:06] And then they just thought, okay, what kind of story can we make here that takes advantage

[00:10:09] of the area, which I thought they did a really good job of personally.

[00:10:12] I love it.

[00:10:13] Yeah.

[00:10:13] And then he was saying, and once we got into it, if we'd had more episodes to work with

[00:10:18] than just six, they actually would have spent more time there, you know?

[00:10:21] Oh, I like that.

[00:10:22] They said, he said, we don't have a limit of, or we have, we don't have any dearth of story.

[00:10:29] We have just a dearth of real estate, meaning too few episodes to tell all the stories they

[00:10:34] feel like they want to tell.

[00:10:35] I mean, that's good.

[00:10:36] Better that than the other way around.

[00:10:38] Yeah.

[00:10:38] Yeah.

[00:10:39] There are shows like that where they're just spinning their wheels.

[00:10:41] It feels like.

[00:10:42] Yeah, definitely.

[00:10:43] Like, like lost season three.

[00:10:46] It started off very, people don't like the beginning of that season.

[00:10:50] And both showrunners, Carlton Cuse and Lindelof, Damon Lindelof have said that's because they

[00:10:57] were spinning their wheels because they couldn't get ABC to commit to let them end it at a certain

[00:11:01] point.

[00:11:02] So they didn't know when it was going to end.

[00:11:03] So they were kind of just padding it out.

[00:11:05] And then after a little break there, that's when they found out that it was going to, you know,

[00:11:09] they could end it on their own terms.

[00:11:11] And then the back half of season three is my favorite part of that show.

[00:11:14] The whole, we have to go back and Richard Alpert's backstory and everything.

[00:11:18] I love that.

[00:11:18] I love that transparency.

[00:11:20] Like, tell us what's going on.

[00:11:22] Oh, yeah.

[00:11:22] They had a weekly podcast that was really good.

[00:11:25] The Lindelof and Cuse.

[00:11:26] They were hilarious.

[00:11:27] Oh my God.

[00:11:27] Can you imagine if we did something like that for like Game of Thrones?

[00:11:30] Like, the truth is, we've just given up because like, we don't give a shit anymore.

[00:11:35] I know.

[00:11:36] They're like, this is hard because we don't have the book and we're not smart.

[00:11:41] So we just hired a lot of people who know how to make really cool effects, but we're afraid

[00:11:46] that we're going to be found out as fraud.

[00:11:48] So we just want to hide and get our money and go.

[00:11:50] But honestly, we're just so psyched for Star Wars.

[00:11:56] Oh God, that's so mean.

[00:11:58] But what would they say if they, if they like Wonder Woman's lasso was wrapped around them

[00:12:01] and they had to do a podcast.

[00:12:02] It'd be so fun to hear.

[00:12:03] That would be hilarious.

[00:12:04] I would love that.

[00:12:06] Okay.

[00:12:07] For people who don't know Wonder Woman's lasso, when it's wrapped around you, it makes you

[00:12:11] have to tell the truth, by the way.

[00:12:13] Dre Minoni says, great episode, but I'm with you that there were some spots with sloppy

[00:12:18] writing.

[00:12:18] You mentioned on your coverage whether they filmed in Greenland, but the AMC episode Insider

[00:12:23] that plays after the show says they found a spot in the French Alps and had to switch

[00:12:26] around filming times to make sure there wasn't snow.

[00:12:29] I also read that all the stuff that was set in the United States was also filmed in France

[00:12:34] too.

[00:12:34] Really?

[00:12:35] Carol stuff.

[00:12:36] Yeah.

[00:12:36] And they put together that drive in, you know, that was overgrown just to make it feel

[00:12:40] more American, but they had to build it.

[00:12:41] They even built that whole greenhouse from scratch.

[00:12:44] Holy crap.

[00:12:45] Because I thought this doesn't look like Georgia, but I just assumed while we're in the northeast

[00:12:49] now, so it'll look different.

[00:12:50] That's amazing.

[00:12:52] Yeah.

[00:12:53] Yeah.

[00:12:54] The scene with Carol and the Zeds jumping out of the ground was a jump scare for me too.

[00:13:00] When the kiss happened, I also jumped.

[00:13:02] No, just kidding.

[00:13:02] I was surprised and wanted to be happy, but just wasn't sure after the fact.

[00:13:06] Did I believe they were to this point yet?

[00:13:08] Is it weird to see Daryl act on those emotions after years of not seeing it?

[00:13:13] Yeah, it is weird, but I think it makes sense for him.

[00:13:15] And, you know, as far as did I believe they were to this point yet, for me, it seems like

[00:13:20] they've been through a lot and they've been pretty intimate a couple of times.

[00:13:23] Not intimate, intimate, but close, you know?

[00:13:26] For sure.

[00:13:26] Yeah.

[00:13:27] It seems normal to me.

[00:13:29] I mean, I had a one night stand once, so.

[00:13:33] That was like just a massive dick swing.

[00:13:36] I mean, this seems like way too long to me.

[00:13:39] Come on, get it on.

[00:13:41] No, I'm just kidding.

[00:13:42] Anyways, I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but I want this character.

[00:13:45] I'd be happy and seeing him forge this French family makes me scared for how it will all end.

[00:13:50] C'est la vie.

[00:13:56] Who've we got next?

[00:13:57] We have Tam from Perth, Australia.

[00:13:59] Says, hi, Jason and Lucy.

[00:14:01] Just me over here squealing and clapping hands because they kissed.

[00:14:04] Seems that old mate Daryl just needed de passage.

[00:14:08] Change of scenery.

[00:14:10] Let's hope each episode is better than the last, as I really enjoyed all of this one.

[00:14:14] Even the crazy flare in the chest.

[00:14:16] Thanks for being there to message about the silly reaction because I could be the only person in the Perth watching and listening.

[00:14:22] If I said to anyone Daryl kissed Fleur from Harry Potter, I might get locked up.

[00:14:26] You know what, Tam?

[00:14:27] You're not wrong.

[00:14:28] You're not wrong.

[00:14:29] It's weird when you think about it that way.

[00:14:33] Oh, that, she was in Harry Potter?

[00:14:35] Yeah, she's Fleur Devin.

[00:14:37] Clemens Poesie.

[00:14:37] Oh, wow.

[00:14:38] She honestly has aged like fucking, I want to know what her skincare routine is because she, I was watching her and I was like, she looks literally the same as she did in Harry Potter.

[00:14:48] And that was like almost 20 years ago.

[00:14:50] Like wild.

[00:14:51] Deal with the devil.

[00:14:52] Yep.

[00:14:52] I think so.

[00:14:53] Uh, Agent Pen Baphomet Samara Wickrama says, if you read this one out on the air, you only have to refer to me as Pan.

[00:15:00] Okay.

[00:15:00] Pan says, he goes, Lucy always gets my name as close to right as anyone gets it, but Pan is fine and somewhat preferred.

[00:15:08] Okay.

[00:15:08] Sorry.

[00:15:08] Next time I'll refer to you as Pan.

[00:15:10] Uh, surely Daryl kissing Isabel is going to steal all the discussion on this episode.

[00:15:15] Not by us, but we talked about it enough.

[00:15:17] I feel like we've never seen him kiss anyone before.

[00:15:20] I don't think so.

[00:15:21] I think you're right.

[00:15:22] Even Leah.

[00:15:23] The show is still a little too vague about Laurent or at least what the people believe about Laurent.

[00:15:30] Yeah.

[00:15:31] Someone had pointed out to me that, because I think we were like, why did they choose Laurent as the Messiah?

[00:15:39] Yeah.

[00:15:40] But probably, um, Losang learned that Laurent was birthed by a zombie.

[00:15:47] And that's why.

[00:15:48] Yeah.

[00:15:49] I mean, that's a, that is a swing, isn't it?

[00:15:51] That's like a claim to fame.

[00:15:52] Makes sense.

[00:15:53] I was actually born from a zombie.

[00:15:56] Uh, Pan goes on, I'm very much enjoying where this is going and how quickly it's starting to add everything up.

[00:16:02] We're an episode or two away from Carol and Daryl being together again.

[00:16:06] Am I the only one who wants to see a Walking Dead spinoff set in Australia?

[00:16:10] Much love to yous.

[00:16:12] Ooh, I'd love an Australian spinoff.

[00:16:14] Well, who could star?

[00:16:16] How about Judith?

[00:16:18] Yeah, I like it.

[00:16:19] In Australia.

[00:16:20] That'd be cool.

[00:16:20] I think she'd be really cute.

[00:16:21] I think that would be great.

[00:16:22] 10 out of 10.

[00:16:24] RJ's Adventures in the Outback.

[00:16:26] Um, excellent.

[00:16:28] Thanks, man.

[00:16:29] That's a good title.

[00:16:30] Um, Josie Bowen-Echtel says,

[00:16:33] I had unfortunately seen spoiler leaks on Twitter of the kiss last week.

[00:16:36] Aw, boo!

[00:16:38] While it's, not boo you, Josie, boo that there are spoilers.

[00:16:41] Um, while it's understandable that it would happen,

[00:16:44] it feels confusing and bizarre to us long-term fans who have never seen this side of Daryl before.

[00:16:48] And no, Leah doesn't really count because they didn't show that in depth like this.

[00:16:52] I don't personally see chemistry between Daryl and Isabel.

[00:16:54] I'm hoping this is just one of those small steps to further the story and we will eventually see her off the show.

[00:17:00] Daryl needs to be with someone with a bigger personality, in my opinion.

[00:17:05] I am excited Carol is in France.

[00:17:07] Love the way she just tracks the truck with some crane and immediately gets into the thick of shit.

[00:17:11] Ash is just too sweet for all of this and I worry for his safety.

[00:17:15] I started to light Laurent a bit more in this episode, actually.

[00:17:18] It will be interesting to see what they do with his character.

[00:17:20] He is clearly really developing a relationship with Daryl.

[00:17:23] There are lots of characters in this show that just seem like red shirts to me.

[00:17:27] Excited to get things moving next week and for the love of God,

[00:17:30] please give us the Daryl Carol reunion already.

[00:17:33] Yep.

[00:17:34] It makes sense there would be a lot of red shirts because it's two of the most popular characters from The Walking Dead

[00:17:41] and then everybody else, you know.

[00:17:43] Yeah.

[00:17:44] Saying she's not sure they have chemistry made me think about that for a second and I'm like,

[00:17:51] yeah, they definitely to me seem close.

[00:17:55] Like there's a connection between them, a bond, you know.

[00:17:59] But I don't, I haven't really felt like that sexual chemistry that much.

[00:18:06] Oh.

[00:18:07] And when the only time I really felt it was when they continued kissing like we were talking about last time.

[00:18:12] Then, oh, okay, there's some there.

[00:18:14] Yeah, but we want to see and feel a little more of that to make it feel right and make sense in my opinion.

[00:18:20] So we're just going to need a softcore episode.

[00:18:23] Yeah, we need softcore.

[00:18:25] For us to be convinced.

[00:18:27] No, we just need the vibes.

[00:18:29] We just need vibes, man.

[00:18:30] Just vibes, vibes.

[00:18:31] Just vibes.

[00:18:33] Okay, here's Steve Brown.

[00:18:35] All right, the cast of us.

[00:18:36] Here we go.

[00:18:38] This is Steve and this is for Daryl, wait, The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, The Book of Carol, Episode 2, Moulin Rouge.

[00:18:46] Laurent Carves, Daryl Dog.

[00:18:48] Okay, that was a real quick reference by Laurent, but Daryl has told Laurent about Carol, so he says he misses Carol and the others.

[00:18:55] Yeah.

[00:18:55] Uh-oh, landing in the middle of the field with the plane, that's not good.

[00:18:59] Okay, so now we have Rambo walkers hiding in the ground.

[00:19:04] That would be interesting if Isabelle and Laurent went back to America with Daryl.

[00:19:08] I could see it.

[00:19:09] I hope they do show us how they got started going this way because, you know, we don't know that.

[00:19:13] We just know that for some reason they think Laurent is this special child and there's a ceremony come up.

[00:19:20] So Daryl's in the lead to go track down whoever took Laurent.

[00:19:23] What are the chances that one of the people that they saved, they brought back as turned traitor on them?

[00:19:28] Meanwhile, back in Reland, we learned about Stupeluck.

[00:19:31] Another name for Walker.

[00:19:33] Okay, Carol's obviously suspicious of these two women.

[00:19:37] Okay, they want to breed with Ash.

[00:19:40] What?

[00:19:42] So Hannah just killed Ian and now I'm hoping Ash is alive.

[00:19:48] Oh!

[00:19:50] And Chekhov's, uh, what do they call that, a flare gun?

[00:19:53] Chekhov's flare gun from the beginning of the episode takes out Hannah.

[00:19:57] Wow, and Carol being truthful.

[00:19:59] I've killed a lot of people and I remember all of them.

[00:20:01] Oh no, they faked the kidnapping and this woman is going to go feed Laurent a Danish.

[00:20:06] All of it was a trap to try to get Daryl.

[00:20:08] Daryl and anyone else who wasn't part of their plan.

[00:20:11] Oh, Isabel just shot Emil.

[00:20:14] Okay, so now the plan is she's going to go search for her daughter, in quotes, for two weeks and then come back.

[00:20:20] Oh, so they can have food if they'll pledge their allegiance to Janae.

[00:20:24] Oh, so that's what he meant by her, this woman, not Losang.

[00:20:28] Oh, and Carol makes a friend.

[00:20:29] Oh, there's the pocket watch with the picture of the nest on it.

[00:20:33] All right, on to next week.

[00:20:35] Saying he mentioned that, you know, Laurent said Daryl misses Carol, which was a nice little shorthand way of signifying that Laurent and Daryl have talked about, you know, Daryl's revealed things about himself to Laurent, which says that their bond has deepened.

[00:20:54] Just a little nitpicky, you would think Laurent might also mention Judith, but no.

[00:20:59] No, that's because he's jelly.

[00:21:01] He's jealous.

[00:21:02] And that, whatever, Judith or whatever.

[00:21:05] Judith noticed that he doesn't view RJ as a threat.

[00:21:08] RJ.

[00:21:09] Even Laurent gets it.

[00:21:13] Chandra Wright says, I've said it before.

[00:21:15] I've got it bad for Daryl and Rita.

[00:21:18] So the kiss scene was long anticipated.

[00:21:20] More than that, it was great to see his character choose something pleasurable for himself.

[00:21:25] I'm surprised.

[00:21:25] I thought there would be more dissent about Daryl, but it's interesting.

[00:21:31] People just seem happy for him.

[00:21:32] About the kiss.

[00:21:33] Yeah.

[00:21:33] There was a long span where it seemed he felt he didn't deserve it, followed by a long span of busyness protecting others.

[00:21:39] It was so refreshing to see him happy to reunite with Laurent after returning from the mission.

[00:21:43] And then again, to see such joy and lightness teaching him to play baseball.

[00:21:47] I love those scenes.

[00:21:49] Me too.

[00:21:50] Last week, I thought everything that happened with Carol's storyline seemed too convenient and that it was on repeat for me this week.

[00:21:56] The nuance they're trying to develop feels kind of forced.

[00:21:59] Carol would have never allowed that chick to get anywhere near her weapon, but that needed to happen.

[00:22:03] So we would wonder if Carol truly intended to let her live.

[00:22:06] I don't think Carol wears a mask or manipulates to safeguard her feelings.

[00:22:10] I think she really just uses the assumptions that people make about her as a point of strategic advantage.

[00:22:14] It's both the worst and most interesting thing about her.

[00:22:17] Have a great week, everyone.

[00:22:20] Do I believe that?

[00:22:21] Maybe I do believe that because she did admit that she killed a lot of people and that might be a vulnerable thing to admit to, but it wasn't strategically important not to admit that.

[00:22:32] So she went ahead and did it, which does maybe indicate if you're understanding where I'm going with this at all, that she only omits things, not because she's afraid of being vulnerable, but when they're strategically important to omit.

[00:22:44] I think a lot depends on the moment.

[00:22:48] But I think somebody else also wrote in saying they don't believe that Carol for one minute would let Hannah point that crossbow at her.

[00:22:56] I'm going to respectfully disagree with that.

[00:22:58] I just thought that was done so well where they were just vibing and having a drink.

[00:23:02] And she's like, can I take a look at this?

[00:23:03] And then the way it just happened so slowly, I just thought was so such a fun way to do that.

[00:23:08] And I've been in situations like that.

[00:23:11] Well, I'm no Carol, but where I've just suddenly realized, oh, shit, this person does not have my best interests at heart that I've been trusting.

[00:23:17] You know, it feels like the same kind of thing, like, oh, crap, they've got their gun pointed at me.

[00:23:23] I'm in the middle.

[00:23:24] I think she did it to draw her out.

[00:23:26] But I'm kind of between both of you on this.

[00:23:28] I'm like, yeah, a bit of A, a bit of B, a bit of B.

[00:23:30] Like, yeah, why not?

[00:23:31] B, a bit of B, a bit of B.

[00:24:01] B, a bit of B.

[00:24:31] B, a bit of B, a bit of B, a bit of B.

[00:24:50] Daryl has grown and changed.

[00:24:52] And this feels like a delicious cherry on top of everything we've already seen from him in this series.

[00:24:56] And we still have four episodes left.

[00:24:59] Ugh, I'm so thrilled.

[00:25:00] Okay, the rest of the episode was cool too.

[00:25:02] I'm glad it was super long.

[00:25:03] So we got more of the nun, the boy and the American storyline.

[00:25:07] Really pleased Falou did not die.

[00:25:09] You and me both.

[00:25:09] Greenland stuff was creepy with some cool zombies, though super random.

[00:25:13] Guess they made it to France on one tack of, damn it, the ethanol.

[00:25:17] Ash is just going to wait around for Carol.

[00:25:19] They have literally no idea how long this will take.

[00:25:22] I'm sorry, that scene in the writing was dumb.

[00:25:24] I'm going to bite my tongue and hold my complaints about Carol because I'm tired.

[00:25:28] And overall, I really enjoyed most of this episode.

[00:25:30] Daryl and Isabel sitting in a tree.

[00:25:33] K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

[00:25:35] Love it.

[00:25:38] I think the thing where Carol told Ash, if I'm not back in two weeks, then go without me.

[00:25:45] I think that was actually really smart because she could go around for, you know, what would it take?

[00:25:52] Or whatever.

[00:25:53] Just go around and look for a week and a half and then come back whether she found Daryl or not and check in.

[00:26:01] You know, I think that's what that was about.

[00:26:02] Not that she knew how long it would take, but just some kind of reasonable amount of time to give herself to go look, you know?

[00:26:07] Yeah.

[00:26:07] Yeah.

[00:26:09] But wow, Rachel has really changed her tune from episode one to episode two.

[00:26:14] Yeah.

[00:26:16] Robin Springer says, I'm still over Carol.

[00:26:19] The whole thing with the women in Greenland seemed, quote, oh, of course, the people we run into are bonkers as usual.

[00:26:25] Well, if they were just nice, it would be really boring.

[00:26:30] Both are true.

[00:26:30] No conflict.

[00:26:32] The walkers in the grass were great, though.

[00:26:34] Excellent jump scare.

[00:26:35] Being shot in the neck with flare is a gruesome death.

[00:26:38] What happened with Ash and baby mama?

[00:26:40] Did they do it or what?

[00:26:44] I still kind of wonder about that.

[00:26:46] And she hide her little fanny back to camp pretty fast.

[00:26:49] How far away was it?

[00:26:51] I think it was pretty close.

[00:26:52] We saw it across the river when they first met.

[00:26:55] Yeah.

[00:26:55] I don't mind Ash staying with the plane too much since he's going to try to find fuel and probably other stuff.

[00:27:02] He'll be waiting for Carol for a long time, though.

[00:27:04] Actually, that does make me wonder.

[00:27:07] Did she force him to have sex with her?

[00:27:10] It doesn't.

[00:27:10] I don't think so.

[00:27:12] But then it would make sense why she just left him there and came back, you know?

[00:27:18] Yeah.

[00:27:19] After sort of giving him this proposition slash threat.

[00:27:23] I feel like he would have mentioned it, maybe.

[00:27:26] He didn't give the impression of somebody who'd just been assaulted.

[00:27:29] I don't think so either.

[00:27:30] Who's to say, you know?

[00:27:32] The stuff with Carol just walking into Paris and immediately finding people,

[00:27:36] then working her way into the crowd without any idea who they are is totally Carol, I guess.

[00:27:41] But what did she think she'd find out not knowing a word of French?

[00:27:45] Oh, wait.

[00:27:45] She conveniently sits next to an English speaker after she gets captured.

[00:27:49] It's just outlandish, even for Carol.

[00:27:51] I mean, I hope you guys will forgive me for commenting on criticisms like this.

[00:27:59] But when you go abroad, there's a lot of people who speak English in my experience.

[00:28:04] I've been in France.

[00:28:06] Yeah.

[00:28:07] As in episode one, the action with Daryl et al is much, much more interesting to me.

[00:28:12] It's too bad Emil went rogue and was killed.

[00:28:15] I guess Sylvie is dead, too.

[00:28:17] Maybe not, though.

[00:28:18] Is Losang able to kill?

[00:28:20] Well, Sylvie's not dead, right?

[00:28:23] Or is she?

[00:28:25] Wasn't she with them?

[00:28:27] She's looking for Laurent.

[00:28:29] She found him.

[00:28:30] Oh, yeah.

[00:28:31] That's right.

[00:28:32] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:28:32] So she's just saying she wonders if Losang's going to kill her.

[00:28:35] Okay.

[00:28:36] And Madame Genet really knows how to torture.

[00:28:39] I wonder how long Face Tattoo Guy will hold out.

[00:28:42] This has become the great American novel.

[00:28:44] I'm still on the road, wending my way to Ithaca.

[00:28:46] We'll talk soon.

[00:28:47] Great, Tiffany, Robin.

[00:28:50] Amazing.

[00:28:50] Thanks, Robin.

[00:28:51] And Billy Thompson says, hello, hello.

[00:28:54] I think this is my first time writing in on the Dixon series and I love it.

[00:28:57] Really enjoyed the first season.

[00:28:59] Felt it was a breath of fresh air for the universe as a whole.

[00:29:01] Just finished watching episode two of season two.

[00:29:03] And what an episode.

[00:29:05] Honestly, I think this is the best episode of the series so far.

[00:29:08] Does anyone else think Laurent has lost his accent a bit since the first season?

[00:29:11] Yes.

[00:29:12] We'll just say it's because he's talking English a lot more with Daryl being around.

[00:29:16] I mean, he's a French kid, I think.

[00:29:18] The actor.

[00:29:19] Yeah.

[00:29:19] So I think that's his natural accent.

[00:29:22] I think.

[00:29:22] I don't know.

[00:29:22] I could be wrong.

[00:29:24] Greenland.

[00:29:25] This had Tales of the Walking Dead vibes all over it, but another country checked off that

[00:29:28] we've seen in the Walking Dead universe.

[00:29:30] Am I right in saying this is the fourth after US, Mexico, France and now Greenland?

[00:29:35] Hopefully more to come in future seasons too.

[00:29:37] A potential spoiler, I'm not sure if this has been spoken about on the pod yet, but I

[00:29:41] read online that although they are filming in Spain, the season, or at least an episode

[00:29:46] will be set in the UK.

[00:29:48] Might just be rumours, but that would be awesome to see my country in the Walking Dead universe.

[00:29:52] The only part I can criticise in the episode is Ash just willing to stay put for a couple

[00:29:56] of weeks while Carol goes to look for Daryl.

[00:29:58] This just seems mental.

[00:29:59] You fly a plane all the way to France in the ZA to help look for someone's daughter.

[00:30:04] Just not actually help look when you get there.

[00:30:06] I hope we see more of Ash and if someone calls him Flyboy as a reference to Dawn of

[00:30:11] the Dead, that would be so cool.

[00:30:13] We'll do it.

[00:30:14] We will.

[00:30:15] I knew something was fishy about Losang, but I'm almost happy that this happened as it

[00:30:18] gives Laurent and Isabel a reason to leave with Daryl now.

[00:30:21] And that was all sealed with a kiss.

[00:30:23] What the fuck?

[00:30:24] Daryl knows how to make out.

[00:30:25] Can't wait for the rest of the series.

[00:30:27] Thanks, guys.

[00:30:28] Bye.

[00:30:28] That's a good point.

[00:30:29] Should have been really awkward about that.

[00:30:32] Well, some things just, you know, come natural.

[00:30:35] Yep, yep, yep.

[00:30:36] What did he say?

[00:30:38] Oh, about going to different countries.

[00:30:39] And I had not heard that rumor that even though season three will be shot in Spain, that some

[00:30:47] of it will be set in England and the UK.

[00:30:50] I have not heard this either.

[00:30:51] I don't believe that rumor because I just think part of this series is just being in love

[00:30:57] with Europe and the environment.

[00:30:59] And I just don't see them not.

[00:31:29] I mean, there's so much in Spain that's beautiful.

[00:31:33] That's not what I'm saying.

[00:31:34] I'm not saying that England isn't Europe.

[00:31:37] I'm just saying go to Spain and appreciate Spain and then go to another European country,

[00:31:42] England, and appreciate that, you know, or anywhere in the UK.

[00:31:45] But not go into one European country and then pretend it's another European country because

[00:31:49] it's all about like celebrating where, you know, the beauty of where they actually are

[00:31:56] versus pretending it's something else.

[00:31:57] I don't know if I made any sense.

[00:31:58] Anyway.

[00:32:00] Anywho.

[00:32:01] Edwina from Eora, Sydney.

[00:32:05] Eora slash Sydney.

[00:32:06] I guess Eora is a suburb.

[00:32:08] Australia.

[00:32:09] Hi, Jason and Lucy.

[00:32:10] Found you guys when my Walking Dead obsession was reignited during The Ones Who Live and

[00:32:15] have been hanging out for the podcast every week since.

[00:32:17] Awesome.

[00:32:18] That's amazing.

[00:32:20] Loved episode two of The Daryl Show.

[00:32:22] We'll go straight to the kiss.

[00:32:23] I think the slight awkwardness was on purpose and I'm hoping it's a sign that we'll get to

[00:32:27] see Daryl deal with why he has so many walls around his big old heart.

[00:32:32] It surely goes back to his childhood where there was so little affection and which starved

[00:32:36] his loving nature.

[00:32:38] As Merle said, he was always the sweet one.

[00:32:41] I'm here for the Daryl and Isabel romance, but I don't need it to be a big epic love story.

[00:32:46] A more nuanced and complex character development for Daryl would be far more compelling.

[00:32:50] Yeah, I think I agree with that too.

[00:32:53] I don't want this show to be about the romance as much as the romance to be a part of the

[00:32:57] show.

[00:32:58] I thought this, but I just wanted to double check it.

[00:33:00] Eora is an early name for Sydney.

[00:33:06] It's the name of an Aboriginal Australian people in New South Wales.

[00:33:09] Got it.

[00:33:10] Yeah.

[00:33:11] So I hope I got that right, Edwina.

[00:33:13] Let us know if not, but I had a feeling that might be it.

[00:33:15] That makes sense.

[00:33:16] Yeah.

[00:33:16] Thank you.

[00:33:17] Glad you checked on that.

[00:33:18] She continues, Isabel killing Emile felt unnecessary.

[00:33:22] He's a kid.

[00:33:24] He's just been tortured.

[00:33:25] He's Sylvie's love.

[00:33:26] Wish they'd found a different way.

[00:33:28] I think I felt a little bit like that too, actually.

[00:33:32] It was almost like...

[00:33:34] I'm just worried they're kind of clear in house with the French cast at the moment.

[00:33:37] I'm a bit like...

[00:33:37] Yeah.

[00:33:39] But in story, it felt a little bit like Lizzie, you know?

[00:33:43] It's like, eh, you don't really want to have to do this, but you're kind of in a bad

[00:33:47] situation here where if you let the person live, it could be a deadly mistake.

[00:33:53] Yeah.

[00:33:54] Found myself yelling at the screen for the first time in a while saying, don't, do not,

[00:33:58] you do not kill Falou.

[00:34:00] No.

[00:34:00] No one kills Falou.

[00:34:02] So I guess I love Falou and I'm hoping he rises to take Lo Sang's place.

[00:34:06] Ooh, there's an idea.

[00:34:07] Daryl, that might be a good prediction.

[00:34:09] Daryl in a singlet and suspenders combo.

[00:34:11] He knows what he's doing.

[00:34:13] The Greenland sequence was shot in the French Alps.

[00:34:16] The cinematography of the show is lush.

[00:34:19] All of Janae's henchmen slash women folk have face tattoos.

[00:34:23] So I don't think that clue was meant for Codron specifically.

[00:34:27] Oh, I didn't even notice that.

[00:34:29] And on Codron, I think he's a pure believer in the Messiah.

[00:34:32] It's why he let them go.

[00:34:34] It's why he's resisting the torture.

[00:34:36] To protect Daryl is to protect Laurent.

[00:34:39] I expect he will give his life for Laurent before the season is done.

[00:34:43] Can't wait for the next four.

[00:34:45] Wait, did we?

[00:34:46] I just binged season one and I don't remember any indication that Codron cared anything about

[00:34:53] that, about Laurent being the Messiah.

[00:34:55] Am I forgetting?

[00:34:55] I would need to go back and revisit.

[00:34:57] Yeah.

[00:34:58] Okay.

[00:34:59] Well, that'd be interesting if you're right about that.

[00:35:02] We have Lara who says,

[00:35:05] Salut Jason, salut Lucy.

[00:35:07] Here was my interior monologue as I watched last night's episode.

[00:35:10] Pizza.

[00:35:10] Damn, Laurent must be special and I must be hungry.

[00:35:13] This love story between Emile and Sophie is just the most heartwarmingly wholesome thing

[00:35:18] I've seen in The Walking Dead since John Dory's candy stash.

[00:35:21] A sweet domestic scene with Daryl, Laurent and Isabel learning cricket or baseball.

[00:35:25] This episode is so friggin' adorable.

[00:35:28] Spoke too soon.

[00:35:29] Apparently Ash wasn't dragged to Europe to be killed or abandoned, but to become the stud

[00:35:33] of Greenland.

[00:35:34] Oh, Isabel.

[00:35:35] No, I really was hoping they would just tie up Emile.

[00:35:39] Was this a Lizzie situation?

[00:35:40] Was Emile too far gone?

[00:35:41] Oh, that's just what I was saying.

[00:35:42] That was, I feel, an unnecessary death.

[00:35:45] What?

[00:35:45] Did the SS Isidixon just set sail?

[00:35:48] All this time, all Daryl wanted was sunset walks on the beach.

[00:35:52] Looks like Jeanne is also separating the As et Bs, just like the CRM.

[00:35:57] As for the episode, the plan to plouge Laurent as the saver and show his immunity to bites

[00:36:02] is fundamentally flawed.

[00:36:04] The problems with zombies and The Walking Dead is not the bites that kill us.

[00:36:07] A bite from a tiger could kill you.

[00:36:09] The problem is we reanimate when we die.

[00:36:12] That's why I feel immunity in this world would be so horrific to prove.

[00:36:15] In order to prove his supposed immunity, Lo-Sang would have to kill Laurent.

[00:36:19] And if he does not come back as a walker, he's immune.

[00:36:22] Oh, it's like the witch thing, Jason.

[00:36:24] If you drown your innocent.

[00:36:26] No, no.

[00:36:27] But if you get bitten by a zombie, it kills you.

[00:36:31] And then you come back.

[00:36:32] So you wouldn't have to kill him.

[00:36:34] You could just have him get bitten on the arm or something.

[00:36:38] And then take him away from the zombie.

[00:36:41] Well, it would be killing him if he's not immune.

[00:36:43] But I think what she's saying is you have to shoot him in the head.

[00:36:47] Well, not in the head, but in the heart or something like that.

[00:36:50] Yeah.

[00:36:51] Interesting.

[00:36:52] Maybe I'm wrong about that, Laura.

[00:36:53] Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you.

[00:36:56] So immunity would be you don't reanimate after you die.

[00:36:59] In order to prove immunity, you have to die.

[00:37:01] You have to die.

[00:37:02] But I think that if also immunity could be that if a zombie bites you and you don't die, that's something.

[00:37:12] I mean, everyone dies when a zombie bites them unless they get their arm or leg chopped off, their limb chopped off, and then they reanimate.

[00:37:20] So those are two things that happen, right?

[00:37:21] So if Laurent gets bitten and doesn't die, then that means he's special.

[00:37:26] I guess we still don't know if he would reanimate when he dies of some other natural cause, but we do know if the zombie bites him and he doesn't die, then that makes him immune to at least the death part.

[00:37:38] To at least the death part, yeah, for sure.

[00:37:42] I'm not surprised that the nest mostly turned out to be a bunch of zealots, but I truly hope it doesn't crush the faith in Laurent and Isabel.

[00:37:48] I like the themes of the good and bad sides to belief that are in the show.

[00:37:51] It harkens back to the conversations Rick would have with Herschel in the early seasons of The Walking Dead.

[00:38:00] Beyond the story, the show is just utterly beautiful.

[00:38:03] The panoramic shots of Mont Saint-Michel, the sweeping hills of Greenland, or the French Alps if you saw the behind the scenes.

[00:38:10] Even the sets have such a beautiful old world feel to them.

[00:38:13] If this is the beauty we'll be getting in season three, I'll be happy to watch another leg on our European vacation.

[00:38:18] Alors, Ơ bientƓt, or bonne chance, as Ash says.

[00:38:22] Yay!

[00:38:23] Very nice.

[00:38:24] A couple of years back, we went to Chamonix and we went to Mont Blanc, which is the subject of the poem by Shelley that I had to read several times in college.

[00:38:36] And the poem was just about how amazingly awesome this mountain was.

[00:38:40] And I was like, how awe-inspiring could it really be?

[00:38:43] And then I saw it and I was like, holy fuck, it was right.

[00:38:46] It was amazing.

[00:38:48] The only problem was they charged you about $200 to get in this one of those, what do you call it when they're hanging from a wire?

[00:38:56] Cable car.

[00:38:57] Cable car.

[00:38:58] To go to the top.

[00:38:59] But the top was completely enveloped in clouds.

[00:39:02] And so they told us, you're going to pay $200 to be in the fog.

[00:39:06] So we didn't do it.

[00:39:08] We did that in Jasper in Canada a couple of years ago, but we were dumb and did it anyway.

[00:39:15] And we just have these pictures of us looking ridiculous at the top of a mountain and seeing literally nothing.

[00:39:20] It was kind of worth it, but also kind of not.

[00:39:24] Sometimes I wonder if we should have done it anyway.

[00:39:26] But that was too much money.

[00:39:28] All right.

[00:39:29] Here's Carly Jackson.

[00:39:31] Bonjour, Jason and Lucy.

[00:39:33] Bonjour.

[00:39:33] Bonjour.

[00:39:34] Carly de Santa Fe.

[00:39:37] On episode two of Daryl Dixon, Book of Carol.

[00:39:42] You know, I think I was really holding out for Daryl and Carol to finally get together after all these years.

[00:39:48] I've always wanted to see them get together, but I guess it's time for me to finally accept that they are no more than friends.

[00:39:56] And that's okay.

[00:39:57] It's so funny because usually in other TV shows, I'm like, it's okay for people to just be friends.

[00:40:01] But in this show, I really wanted to see them get together.

[00:40:06] But I do like Isabel and their kiss was very sweet, I thought.

[00:40:12] And I think, I wonder if it has something to do with Daryl was not willing to allow his feelings to come out because he thought he would have to be separated from her.

[00:40:26] But when she agreed to go with them, to go with him, then he was able to kiss her and to display his feelings for her.

[00:40:36] So I thought that was very sweet.

[00:40:38] I also love seeing Carol.

[00:40:40] I just love Carol's story.

[00:40:41] Like, she's just fascinating.

[00:40:42] I love whenever she's on screen.

[00:40:44] And that was really interesting and sad to see her in Greenland.

[00:40:50] You know, and I fully believed that she was going to try and take, I forget her name, take that woman with them.

[00:40:58] I was like, I don't know where she's going to fit on the plane.

[00:41:01] But I fully believed that Carol was going to take her.

[00:41:04] And then I thought it was kind of a funny reverse that she lies to Ash and says that he did have to kill her and he didn't.

[00:41:14] And like, that's a lie to kind of protect him.

[00:41:18] So I thought it was interesting to see her live for a different reason and for what I thought was justified because he didn't need that extra grief.

[00:41:29] Anyway, really enjoying the podcast, really enjoying both of you.

[00:41:34] So probably talk to you next week.

[00:41:36] Yeah, you wouldn't want to be like, you just killed someone for no reason because she was nice and I was going to ask you if we could take her with us.

[00:41:43] Yes.

[00:41:46] Fuck's sake, Ash.

[00:41:48] Like your first kill and you totally fucked it up, dude.

[00:41:50] Yeah, yeah.

[00:41:53] Innocent woman.

[00:41:56] That was a great call, Carly.

[00:41:57] Thank you.

[00:41:58] I love it.

[00:42:00] Robin Marks says, NB, B, B, B, B, B, B, like a hundred Bs.

[00:42:06] Then she said, Teddy, one of my cats wanted to share his opinion, apparently.

[00:42:11] As for me, I enjoyed this episode landing in the meadow full of flowers.

[00:42:16] I don't have to say a word.

[00:42:18] I laughed out loud at welcome to Greenland.

[00:42:20] Those people were really something.

[00:42:22] Wait, the flowers.

[00:42:24] I guess it's about looking at the flowers, right?

[00:42:26] Yeah.

[00:42:27] That's what she's saying.

[00:42:28] Sorry, I didn't get that at first.

[00:42:30] She says, I laughed out loud at welcome to Greenland.

[00:42:32] These people were really something.

[00:42:33] Carol clocked something was off immediately.

[00:42:36] I genuinely don't think Ash noticed something was off until the whole we've picked baby names moment.

[00:42:42] But, lol.

[00:42:43] Also, just a small aside, I love that Hannah had visible mending on her jacket.

[00:42:48] If you look at the collar area, it looks almost like sashiko style embroidery, which is specifically intended to reinforce and make clothes last longer.

[00:42:56] Oh, that's so interesting.

[00:42:57] That's really cool.

[00:42:57] And the other one, whose name I didn't catch, me neither, but I think we think it's Yun or something like that, utilizing traditional clothing was cool too.

[00:43:05] I should have looked that up by now.

[00:43:07] I'm sure it's in there.

[00:43:08] Let's look.

[00:43:09] Yeah.

[00:43:09] It's E-U-N.

[00:43:11] Just like.

[00:43:12] It's like she's saying Yun at some point.

[00:43:14] Yeah.

[00:43:15] That makes sense.

[00:43:15] Yun.

[00:43:16] Yun.

[00:43:17] Yeah.

[00:43:18] Where was I?

[00:43:19] Let's see.

[00:43:19] Do we think Carol really planned on taking Hannah with him?

[00:43:22] I still think we don't, it could have gone either way.

[00:43:26] Either way, yeah.

[00:43:27] And I don't know because Carol's hard to read sometimes.

[00:43:29] Yeah.

[00:43:30] That's what I think.

[00:43:30] I agree.

[00:43:31] She's ruthless, but I sense some real regret that Ash took her out.

[00:43:35] Not that I blame him.

[00:43:36] He had no reason to know or believe anything beyond being explicitly told Carol's life was in danger.

[00:43:41] Poor guy.

[00:43:41] I will say that it's incredibly unbelievable to me that Ash would fly all the way to France and then just wave by the plane.

[00:43:49] LMAO.

[00:43:49] I guess Carol's hoping everything will take longer than two weeks and he'll leave, thus never having to reveal the lie about Sophia.

[00:43:56] I don't think so.

[00:43:57] Oh, she needs a ride home.

[00:43:58] She needs a ride, yeah.

[00:44:00] Another side note, Carol's necklace is made out of the bead from one of Sophia's baubles.

[00:44:05] Oh, no way.

[00:44:06] Hair ties, elastic.

[00:44:08] I don't know the American equivalent.

[00:44:10] Lucy will know what I mean.

[00:44:11] Yeah, like a hair elastic.

[00:44:13] Yeah, we call them baubles.

[00:44:15] Love that they kept that in there.

[00:44:16] Me too.

[00:44:17] I love those details.

[00:44:18] You're good at noticing those.

[00:44:19] I didn't expect Daryl and Isabel to actually kiss, but it was honestly quite sweet.

[00:44:23] They have great chemistry and it felt pretty organic and spur of the moment.

[00:44:27] Too bad about Emile and Sylvie.

[00:44:30] There were no French subtitles at the time when I was watching, so I definitely have missed a lot.

[00:44:34] Yeah, I hate that when you don't get the subtitles when they're speaking in another language.

[00:44:39] P.S. It's been driving me nuts that it hasn't been mentioned yet, but does anyone remember the clip from the set way back in the day where Melissa and Norman are talking about if there was a Carol and Daryl show and what the theme would be?

[00:44:50] Quote, Daryl is feral and Carol is sterile, a match made in hell.

[00:44:54] I've been thinking about it nonstop.

[00:44:57] Should have been this season's theme.

[00:44:59] Sorry for rambling.

[00:45:00] I'm going to bed now because it's 4 a.m.

[00:45:03] Goodbye.

[00:45:04] I think that is on the season 2 DVD extras, Robin.

[00:45:08] I know exactly what you mean and I think it's on that.

[00:45:12] I could be wrong, but that would be where I would check.

[00:45:14] I'm sure it will be on YouTube somewhere.

[00:45:16] Robin, I keep forgetting to say this, but we met Robin in Scotland and she was super fun.

[00:45:23] It was during the listener meetup and last time I read one of her messages, I just didn't even say that and I felt bad, but it was really awesome to meet you, Robin.

[00:45:30] It was so fun.

[00:45:30] That was a really good night.

[00:45:33] Yeah, Jason lost a bet with one of my friends and had to buy them a drink.

[00:45:37] I know.

[00:45:38] It was so embarrassing.

[00:45:39] Every time, if I ever see him again, he's going to rub it in my face and it well deserved.

[00:45:43] Should we say what it was?

[00:45:44] We were doing trivia and we had to try to come up with names of books of the Bible that no one else would guess.

[00:45:54] No one else would put in there.

[00:45:56] And he said Timothy and he's like, I think Timothy's one, right?

[00:46:01] And I'm like, Timothy's not one.

[00:46:03] Come on.

[00:46:03] To me, that sounded like he said, you know, Phil or Herman or something.

[00:46:07] Yeah.

[00:46:07] Like, make one up.

[00:46:08] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:46:08] And I'm like, no, no, no.

[00:46:09] And I was drunk, so I was like kind of not being very sensitive.

[00:46:13] Luckily, he's just kind of a bro dude, you know?

[00:46:15] So he, I don't think I really bothered him.

[00:46:18] But he wouldn't let, like he looked it up and he's like, Timothy, you showed me on his phone or something.

[00:46:23] And I was like, holy shit, he's right.

[00:46:25] Oh, shout out to Douglas.

[00:46:27] And then when you asked him, because I was stuck in Edinburgh for a few days after because my flight got delayed and you asked him because he knows Edinburgh any places I should visit.

[00:46:36] And then he said something about this bar.

[00:46:39] And then he said, you should have him read the book of Timothy.

[00:46:41] It's a cracking read.

[00:46:47] Book of Timothy.

[00:46:48] I wonder what, I mean, I would have thought it was made up as well.

[00:46:51] But there we go.

[00:46:52] Book of Timothy.

[00:46:53] Who knew?

[00:46:54] I do know that he was head boy at a Catholic school, though.

[00:46:57] So I would be like, oh, you're probably no more than me.

[00:46:59] But we'll see.

[00:47:00] I know.

[00:47:03] Another friend, Karen Shee says, I have to admit that I was kind of frustrated and rolling my eyes for the first part of the episode.

[00:47:08] She doesn't specify whether this is the podcast or the show.

[00:47:13] Lucy, thank you for the history lesson about Greenland and its native population.

[00:47:16] I'm glad the show was faithful and authentic about their culture.

[00:47:19] Love the Tupelak bog zombies.

[00:47:22] Jason, I'm glad that you loved the scene between Carol and Hannah, but it felt so fabricated because Carol would never lower her guard like that.

[00:47:29] Carol knows better than this.

[00:47:31] And the dialogue of I didn't want to, but I had to felt overtrodden in the Walking Dead universe.

[00:47:35] We'll agree to disagree on that.

[00:47:37] No, we haven't seen any women proposition someone as Ewan did with Ash.

[00:47:42] Except maybe Negan's coercion with his wives.

[00:47:45] Good point.

[00:47:46] Good point.

[00:47:47] What made me sit up and lean into the episode was the ambush on Daryl, Isabel and Falou in the mill.

[00:47:52] First of all, what a cool filming location.

[00:47:55] Lots of light streaming in the broken windows to shoot some neat silhouettes and beautiful cinematography.

[00:48:00] I was so afraid that Falou would die at the hands of Emil.

[00:48:03] This goes to show that any form of radicalism, any cause that kills innocence is false righteousness.

[00:48:09] I think the series works best in the smaller moments between Daryl and Isabel.

[00:48:13] Their talks about faith and doubt make me reflect on my own spiritual journey and a quote from the writer and spiritual thinker Anne Lammett.

[00:48:29] She says,

[00:48:50] Isabel seems organically developed, so I'm fine with it.

[00:48:53] That said, the kiss was weird.

[00:48:54] I don't think I've ever seen Norman Reedus kiss anyone.

[00:48:57] He has a reputation for licking his co-stars on the cheek instead.

[00:49:00] He should have done that.

[00:49:01] Right?

[00:49:02] I learned from dog.

[00:49:04] I learned this from dog.

[00:49:05] Dog likes it.

[00:49:09] Isabel's like, no.

[00:49:11] Karen says,

[00:49:12] Love and thanks for the coverage.

[00:49:13] Shout out to Lara for the awesome episode one coverage.

[00:49:16] Can't wait for Dina's thoughts in the next episode.

[00:49:18] And Lucy, thank you for sharing about your decision to be childless.

[00:49:21] We hear you and support you.

[00:49:22] Aw, thanks Karen.

[00:49:23] That means a lot.

[00:49:25] Nice.

[00:49:26] Okay.

[00:49:26] Andrea Abarka says,

[00:49:27] Hi Jason and Lucy.

[00:49:28] Hope you're both well.

[00:49:29] I think we are, right?

[00:49:30] I think we're good.

[00:49:31] Yeah.

[00:49:31] Pretty well.

[00:49:32] We're getting there.

[00:49:32] I'm like a seven.

[00:49:33] I'd say.

[00:49:34] Yeah.

[00:49:34] I meant to write in last week, but I missed it.

[00:49:37] So I'm writing in about episode one and two.

[00:49:39] Just a couple of things about episode one.

[00:49:41] I don't remember who brought up that Carol never tried taking Sophia out of the situation

[00:49:45] with Ed.

[00:49:46] The episode where her and Daryl go looking for Beth.

[00:49:49] They stay the night at a shelter and Carol mentions her and Sophia had stayed at a couple.

[00:49:54] So she did try to leave.

[00:49:56] And I just thought I defend my girl, Carol.

[00:49:58] That's cool.

[00:49:59] I do agree her actions with Ash lying to him was not her best moment.

[00:50:03] I think talking about Sophia makes her have to deal with her grief and she's not ready

[00:50:07] for that.

[00:50:08] But at the same time, it's definitely not fair to Ash.

[00:50:11] I would say, yeah, to say the least.

[00:50:13] Also just wanted to mention the Cherokee Rose callback made me so happy.

[00:50:17] It was the moment I fell in love with Daryl.

[00:50:19] So yay.

[00:50:20] Yay.

[00:50:21] Yeah.

[00:50:21] Especially since we saw that fairly recently on the rewatch that made it even more like

[00:50:25] we already remembered it so well.

[00:50:28] Moving on to episode two.

[00:50:29] I stand by my last email and say, Isabel and Daryl, you and now add a cringe to that.

[00:50:35] That's all I will say about the kiss.

[00:50:37] I read a review about the episode and the writer brought up something that made me realize what's

[00:50:41] been bothering me.

[00:50:42] One of the things we love about Daryl is his loyalty.

[00:50:45] The article said Daryl's actions are making him appear less loyal.

[00:50:49] Carol has basically lied, cheated and stolen to get to him.

[00:50:52] Those last words are mine.

[00:50:54] I don't like this aspect of the writing on the series so far this season.

[00:50:59] Daryl is not the Daryl I know.

[00:51:01] Growth is good, but it's a little too off character for him in my opinion.

[00:51:05] Still love him though.

[00:51:06] As for what I loved about the episode, sleeveless Daryl, check and thank you.

[00:51:11] Greenland, creepy and also very different and cool.

[00:51:14] I love the walkers.

[00:51:16] I love the walkers.

[00:51:16] Carol walking behind the truck and eating the apple, being her beautiful badass self,

[00:51:21] the best.

[00:51:22] I was also really glad that Falou, not sure that's spelled right.

[00:51:27] It is.

[00:51:27] Didn't lie.

[00:51:28] I just realized Falou is fallout without the T.

[00:51:32] Didn't die.

[00:51:34] Anyway, sorry I rambled on.

[00:51:35] Thank you for your podcast.

[00:51:37] It literally makes my week.

[00:51:38] Love you guys.

[00:51:39] Andrea.

[00:51:40] Thanks, Andrea.

[00:51:41] I'm not sure what she's saying about loyalty.

[00:51:43] Is that what you were going to talk about?

[00:51:44] No, I was going to say I actually feel a little bit.

[00:51:49] I feel very much what you're saying, Andrea, about there being aspects of Daryl in this series

[00:51:54] where he feels a little removed from Daryl as we know him.

[00:51:58] I think sometimes it's getting a bit.

[00:51:59] I don't know.

[00:52:00] I don't know.

[00:52:01] I'm going to say John Wick, but I don't think that's what I mean.

[00:52:05] But there is a bit that I'm like, all right.

[00:52:07] He's.

[00:52:08] I don't know.

[00:52:10] The guy from Diamond.

[00:52:11] Matt Damon.

[00:52:14] What's that?

[00:52:15] Spy series.

[00:52:16] Born Identity.

[00:52:17] Yeah.

[00:52:18] Yeah.

[00:52:18] A little bit like just badass efficient.

[00:52:22] Every time someone says Matt Damon, I host like a Team America.

[00:52:25] Matt Damon.

[00:52:27] I never saw that.

[00:52:28] I got to watch it.

[00:52:28] You never saw Team America?

[00:52:30] Oh, man.

[00:52:31] Oh, man.

[00:52:32] I genuinely like that film.

[00:52:33] Yeah.

[00:52:34] I should watch it.

[00:52:35] Yeah.

[00:52:35] I think there are some bits where I'm like.

[00:52:38] I mean, I think that I don't.

[00:52:40] I don't know.

[00:52:41] Maybe if I thought about it more, but I really think that Norman Reedus is very much has a

[00:52:48] lot of creative control.

[00:52:49] You know, we read an interview where he told the showrunner, no, Daryl wouldn't do that

[00:52:53] or something like that.

[00:52:54] So I think if Daryl seems different, then that's probably Reedus' fault as much as anyone.

[00:53:02] And this is what he thinks Daryl is, what we're seeing.

[00:53:05] So I don't know if that makes any difference to people who think he seems different.

[00:53:09] But I don't think he seems all that different.

[00:53:11] He's quiet.

[00:53:12] He's a badass.

[00:53:14] He's a little bit tortured.

[00:53:16] I mean, he seems a little actually more together than normal.

[00:53:20] Is that kind of what you're saying?

[00:53:22] Like a little more self-actualized than he was before?

[00:53:25] Less flawed?

[00:53:26] I think so.

[00:53:27] I think we're in a weird position, though, because like we're watching the very early

[00:53:31] stuff.

[00:53:33] You know, we're doing a rewatch and then switching to this.

[00:53:36] I'm like, oh, yeah.

[00:53:37] Like, yeah, I don't know.

[00:53:38] Sometimes I just find myself feeling a bit like, oh, OK.

[00:53:42] I think, yeah, you know, I actually think about this a little bit more and I don't know

[00:53:45] if I'm on the right track, but I feel like Norman Reedus really always wanted

[00:53:50] Daryl to be cool.

[00:53:51] Uh-huh.

[00:53:52] And so now if he does have more creative control, then Daryl's going to be even cooler

[00:53:56] than normal, you know?

[00:53:59] Yeah, exactly.

[00:54:00] And to me, where that can go wrong is then you lose some character, you know, like flaws

[00:54:05] add character and interest.

[00:54:07] And so maybe we're not seeing as much of that in this series.

[00:54:11] But as far as the loyalty thing, she said, you know, Daryl, one of the things we love

[00:54:17] about Daryl is his loyalty and his actions are making him appear less loyal.

[00:54:22] Is she it sounds like she means loyal to Carol, but he did try to get back.

[00:54:29] He's trying.

[00:54:30] He the whole series.

[00:54:32] He's that's his entire goal has been to get to this damn port, catch a boat.

[00:54:37] He was about to catch one, but he decided to save this little kid from zombies instead.

[00:54:41] And now he's waiting for the next one back.

[00:54:44] And when he finds love, I don't see that as being disloyal, especially because as one

[00:54:51] of the other listeners just said, I forget which one, sorry, but that he didn't really

[00:54:55] open up to her until she said she wanted to go back home with him.

[00:54:57] So he still wants to go back home to his friends.

[00:55:00] Yeah, it's interesting.

[00:55:01] I mean, yeah, to be fair to Andrew, she's talking about what the article says.

[00:55:05] And I, yeah, I kind of, I'm interested to read that.

[00:55:09] So I'm going to go and try and find it.

[00:55:10] So thank you, Andrew, for sure.

[00:55:13] Kit says, hi, Jason, Lucy and Lara.

[00:55:16] Thanks for a great recap and exploration of the first episode of season two of Daryl Dixon.

[00:55:21] I really enjoyed the discussion and also appreciated that Carol's actions were not uniformly accepted

[00:55:25] by you three.

[00:55:26] To be clear, Carol is a great survivor and character.

[00:55:29] It is wonderful seeing Melissa McBride again playing the character.

[00:55:32] She's a wonderful actress.

[00:55:34] As you pointed out, Jason, flawed characters are interesting to watch on screen and Carol

[00:55:38] had to survive so much through manipulation.

[00:55:41] However, Carol has had many years of running communities without having to use manipulation

[00:55:45] to get things done and get buy-in from people.

[00:55:47] It felt really painful to see her use manipulation on Ash, especially when she is given several

[00:55:52] opportunities to come clean.

[00:55:54] Well, I think like you're saying she ran several communities all the way up until the end.

[00:56:01] And even in Alexandria, I mean, not Alexandria, the Commonwealth.

[00:56:05] She was.

[00:56:07] I think she was being manipulative there with who was the leader of that community.

[00:56:14] The woman, you know, Pamela.

[00:56:16] OK.

[00:56:16] I don't I don't know if I agree with this.

[00:56:18] I think.

[00:56:18] What about the kingdom?

[00:56:21] The kingdom is different because she respected.

[00:56:24] I mean, she came in pretending.

[00:56:27] Oh, my God.

[00:56:27] This is crazy in the most wonderful way.

[00:56:30] Right.

[00:56:30] Yeah.

[00:56:31] Just pretending to think something that she really didn't.

[00:56:34] So she did have that mask.

[00:56:35] But when she got to know Ezekiel, she realized, OK, this is a person that I can be real with.

[00:56:40] Yeah.

[00:56:41] Because of his character.

[00:56:42] Once Rick goes, they have like however many years of ruling that together.

[00:56:46] Oh, I see what you're saying.

[00:56:47] Yeah.

[00:56:47] Yeah.

[00:56:48] I think I guess you're right.

[00:56:49] That is a different situation.

[00:56:50] But I think she takes the situation by situation.

[00:56:53] And when she as I said, when she got to the Commonwealth, she went back to what, you know, worked before.

[00:56:58] Yeah.

[00:56:59] Well, Kit goes on to say Ash is one of the most genuine characters we've seen on The Walking Dead.

[00:57:03] He could be such a great addition to the Commonwealth, which would help him and those that Carol

[00:57:08] loves and the community as a whole.

[00:57:09] So why not tell him the truth and give him a choice and hope to join a great community as incentive to help Carol find Daryl?

[00:57:15] We also know that other flawed and complicated characters can be successful getting help without using manipulation.

[00:57:22] Michonne asked for help and got it from that.

[00:57:24] I do hope Carol comes clean with Ash and realizes that there are people she can trust to do the right thing when presented with a real choice.

[00:57:31] I think Ash would have helped Carol even if she was trying to find Daryl and not her child.

[00:57:36] In general, I did really enjoy the episode.

[00:57:38] I watched the first several episodes of season one, then fast forwarded through the remaining episodes.

[00:57:43] I am optimistic that the addition of Carol and the suspense of a reunion with Daryl will be great for the series.

[00:57:49] Spoiler note for episode two, since you will get this after it airs on AMC Plus at least.

[00:57:54] I am so excited for the development in episode two.

[00:57:57] I am so happy they answered the questions about will they or won't they with Daryl and Isabel.

[00:58:01] Now we can get on with trying to get a reunion between Carol and Daryl and get everyone back home to the Commonwealth.

[00:58:07] Personally, I think Isabel will fit in so much better with Daryl and his former life than Leah would have.

[00:58:11] I think Carol showed her concerns for Ash because she didn't tell him the truth about how he killed an innocent woman when he shot the Greenland woman.

[00:58:18] Maybe Carol planned to kill her anyway.

[00:58:20] I have thought this because the plane did not seem like it could handle three people.

[00:58:24] But I think she was showing kindness by not adding this burden to Ash already feeling bad about killing a person.

[00:58:29] However, when she finally comes clean about Sophia, this is going to also come back to possibly haunt her.

[00:58:35] Yeah, I agree with that, Kit, very much.

[00:58:37] Oh yeah, how could it not?

[00:58:39] I also still doubt that Ash is going to make it too far.

[00:58:43] I think Jenae's gonna get him.

[00:58:45] But you can't argue that Isabel will fit in better with Daryl and his former life than Leah would have given that Leah kept trying to kill his friends.

[00:58:54] I mean, it's indisputable.

[00:58:57] Don't you just hate it when you introduce your new partner and they just keep killing your friends?

[00:59:01] Such a big red flag.

[00:59:04] All right, here's a call from a bunch of Zedheads.

[00:59:07] No way.

[00:59:10] Hey, this is Wendy.

[00:59:12] I'm with the Zedheads in Galveston, Texas.

[00:59:15] Yay!

[00:59:17] And who do we have here?

[00:59:19] Maria.

[00:59:19] Shelley.

[00:59:20] Annie.

[00:59:21] Kelly.

[00:59:22] Rebecca.

[00:59:22] Joe.

[00:59:23] Franca.

[00:59:24] Elma.

[00:59:25] All right, who wants to go first?

[00:59:26] What did you think of the episode?

[00:59:28] Oh, we liked it.

[00:59:29] I didn't hit that.

[00:59:31] It was weird.

[00:59:32] Daryl got a surfing.

[00:59:34] Yeah!

[00:59:36] Boo!

[00:59:37] Boo!

[00:59:37] The kiss heard round the world.

[00:59:41] Yeah.

[00:59:41] All right.

[00:59:42] Boo!

[00:59:43] I feel like I'm worried for Isabelle.

[00:59:46] I feel like she's going to die.

[00:59:48] Yes.

[00:59:48] We can talk about that.

[00:59:49] Some happen in us in The Walking Dead and then something bad happens.

[00:59:53] Yes, I have thought about that too.

[00:59:55] I'm getting his heart broken.

[00:59:56] But Carol will swoop in to pick up the pieces.

[00:59:59] Carol is coming in and break it up.

[01:00:02] That's all right.

[01:00:04] Janae thought she had trouble with Daryl introducing him.

[01:00:08] Yeah, I don't know what they got with Carol.

[01:00:10] Oh my gosh.

[01:00:11] She's going to destroy them.

[01:00:12] Carol now is in France with Daryl.

[01:00:14] So, you know, that's officially used.

[01:00:16] Which was extremely easy.

[01:00:18] In fact.

[01:00:20] And that plane had no mechanical.

[01:00:22] Just a little fuel leak.

[01:00:24] You know what?

[01:00:25] Didn't need to refuel.

[01:00:26] How about the gas?

[01:00:27] I mean, how much gas does it take to fly across the ocean?

[01:00:31] Yes.

[01:00:31] A lot.

[01:00:32] I know.

[01:00:33] I've got a lot of disbelief.

[01:00:35] Yeah.

[01:00:35] I thought by now they would have been, you know, reunited by now.

[01:00:40] Second episode.

[01:00:41] Oh, I didn't think so.

[01:00:42] Oh, okay.

[01:00:42] I'm afraid it's going to take the whole season.

[01:00:44] I know.

[01:00:44] That's what I'm thinking now.

[01:00:46] I hope not.

[01:00:46] I think that, like, Carol is going to get recruited by this Janae.

[01:00:50] Yeah.

[01:00:51] Because she's such a badass.

[01:00:53] And then Carol's going to be, or Daryl is going to be like,

[01:00:55] What are you doing with that woman?

[01:00:58] Oh, she's going to be used to Daryl.

[01:01:00] Yeah.

[01:01:00] Turn a traitor.

[01:01:01] Yeah.

[01:01:02] Yeah.

[01:01:03] Yeah.

[01:01:03] Yeah.

[01:01:04] I thought it was a good twist when the traitors, like, turned all of a sudden

[01:01:07] started attacking everyone.

[01:01:09] I did not see that coming.

[01:01:10] Yeah, I didn't see that coming.

[01:01:11] I did not see that coming.

[01:01:12] Me neither.

[01:01:13] And I think those two were really, like, something was up with them.

[01:01:16] When they sent everybody away, no.

[01:01:18] Yeah.

[01:01:18] I was like, something's up.

[01:01:19] When she handed Daryl those out, I told Kat, I was like,

[01:01:22] Oh, she just gave him blanks, I bet.

[01:01:24] Yeah.

[01:01:24] And then she did.

[01:01:25] Yes.

[01:01:26] What do we think of the creepy Greenland people?

[01:01:30] Oh.

[01:01:32] I mean, I feel like I'm hoping Ash didn't get raped, because that's essentially what.

[01:01:38] Yeah.

[01:01:39] Right.

[01:01:40] Yeah.

[01:01:40] Laugh.

[01:01:41] The crazy girl wanted to procreate with him, and so I hope he, I mean, maybe that's what

[01:01:45] happened, but, you know, I mean, men can get raped, too, you know?

[01:01:48] And so that's kind of morbid.

[01:01:49] It's kind of morbid weird.

[01:01:50] She's writing some bondage sex right here.

[01:01:54] I mean, Greenland might be that way all the time.

[01:01:56] Oh.

[01:01:58] Just during 13 years in the apocalypse, it could be a man landed.

[01:02:04] And Wendy pauses.

[01:02:07] No, we're recording.

[01:02:10] All right.

[01:02:11] Any last words to Jason?

[01:02:12] We miss you.

[01:02:13] We miss you.

[01:02:14] What about me?

[01:02:16] And Lucy, too.

[01:02:17] We miss you.

[01:02:17] Thank you, Emily.

[01:02:19] All right.

[01:02:20] Thanks, everybody.

[01:02:22] Don't get it.

[01:02:23] Don't get it.

[01:02:23] Don't get it.

[01:02:24] Don't get it.

[01:02:28] How are you saying it in French?

[01:02:30] Yeah, sorry.

[01:02:31] Gaffer Muxer.

[01:02:33] Yeah.

[01:02:34] Yeah.

[01:02:35] What she said.

[01:02:36] What she said.

[01:02:37] Bye, JC and Lucen.

[01:02:40] She's drunk.

[01:02:42] I love you.

[01:02:42] And this is sober.

[01:02:43] I'm just saying.

[01:02:47] That was awesome.

[01:02:49] Oh, wow.

[01:02:51] So in case you wondered how that happened, they were all on vacation in like Airbnb in

[01:02:58] Galveston, Texas.

[01:02:59] And I asked Wendy if they would put something together since they were going to watch the

[01:03:04] episode.

[01:03:05] Amazing.

[01:03:06] That was nice.

[01:03:38] Obvious threat to untold numbers of citizens.

[01:03:40] The people he kills get up and tip.

[01:03:42] Are they slow moving, chief?

[01:03:44] Yeah, they're dead.

[01:03:45] They're all messed up.

[01:03:47] This is a walking dead cast.

[01:03:50] Okay.

[01:03:51] Just one quick thing on a panel.

[01:03:53] Back in 2018, Robert Kirkman explained why he never brought Daryl into the comic.

[01:03:59] Do you remember what he said?

[01:04:01] Uh, he said because he's so sexually dynamite that the comics would burn on the shelves upon

[01:04:09] which they were sold and every woman that looked at them would become instantly pregnant.

[01:04:14] That's right.

[01:04:15] Okay.

[01:04:16] Next.

[01:04:16] No.

[01:04:17] He said, he said, while I had a hand in creating Daryl and Merle, it was very much a team effort

[01:04:23] involving other season one writers.

[01:04:25] It would feel wrong to bring the work of so many other people into the comic.

[01:04:28] I never wanted the show to change the comic since the comic is what made the show possible.

[01:04:33] And I worried it could turn into a snake eating its own tail.

[01:04:37] And I remember when I heard that, I was like, just do it.

[01:04:41] Come on.

[01:04:42] Right.

[01:04:42] Um, but so now they have this deluxe walking dead reissue where they're all colorized and

[01:04:49] Kirkman adds commentary in the back, like a director's commentary.

[01:04:53] And so issue 98 came out recently, which is two issues before the whole Negan with Glenn

[01:04:59] thing.

[01:05:00] Um, but in issue 98, he said, since Daryl Dixon was created for the show, AMC owns Daryl outright.

[01:05:09] And since I still own the walking dead as a whole and actually compete with AMC on licensing,

[01:05:14] they were always very adamant that I could never do anything with Daryl in the comics.

[01:05:18] Since he was a licensing gold mine for them.

[01:05:20] That's why you never see Daryl in any of the various video games that are based on the

[01:05:24] comics, but he's usually front and center in the games AMC makes like survival instinct.

[01:05:29] So I wonder now, like, I feel like that's probably the real reason.

[01:05:34] And he was just making up stuff before, you know, cause you don't want to say that for some

[01:05:37] reason, but, um, he did tease Daryl in the comics.

[01:05:41] He had like a cover of a guy with a silhouette with a crossbow and that turned it out to

[01:05:47] be the introduction of Dwight in the comics appeared on the show.

[01:05:52] But what was interesting is, um, in the same issue 98, he says about Dwight, is he related

[01:05:57] to a certain someone in any way?

[01:05:59] Officially?

[01:06:00] No.

[01:06:00] Dwight is an original character, but as we are giving the saviors unique weapons, I thought,

[01:06:04] Hey, crossbows are cool.

[01:06:05] So that made me think maybe he's like, well, I can't bring Daryl in, but I'll bring a Daryl

[01:06:10] like character in.

[01:06:11] But Dwight, he's pretty distinct though.

[01:06:13] Right?

[01:06:13] I think so.

[01:06:14] Especially in the, well, definitely in the show, um, in the, in the comic he's Dwight

[01:06:19] in the comics is pretty interesting character.

[01:06:22] Actually.

[01:06:22] I was always sad that we didn't quite get his Commonwealth arc.

[01:06:25] Um, cause he left the show before that became a part of it.

[01:06:28] I think he did start out a bit more Daryl like.

[01:06:30] So I think that was Kirkman's way of getting a Daryl like character in the comic.

[01:06:34] Definitely.

[01:06:35] But, um, then Dwight on the show.

[01:06:38] Yeah.

[01:06:38] He was a lot different.

[01:06:39] And then he went on to fear the walking dead and just became painful.

[01:06:44] The whole storyline with Dwight.

[01:06:45] Oh God.

[01:06:47] Kirk Dwight.

[01:06:48] Justice for Dwight.

[01:06:49] Sherry.

[01:06:50] Oh no.

[01:06:53] All right.

[01:06:58] That is our show.

[01:06:59] Episode 603.

[01:07:01] Thanks so much for listening.

[01:07:02] Everybody next will be the walking dead.

[01:07:04] Daryl Dixon season two, episode three.

[01:07:06] L'invisible.

[01:07:08] What does that mean?

[01:07:09] Uh, it means everything is very obvious and clear.

[01:07:15] That's what it means.
