Oy, fair warning, we’re well into rant territory with this one. There were definitely some good moments, but sorry Losang, we’re losing faith!

[00:00:05] Go ahead, give us some gas, just a little. Stop! Stop! I said a little!

[00:00:16] That was a little. No that was too much. How am i supposed to know how much is too much?

[00:00:21] Well you listen and if it sounds like it's too much then it's too much. Maybe you're too much.

[00:00:26] What? What? What? What? Hey Zed Heads, welcome to the podcast. I'm Jason.

[00:01:02] and i'm not a person but a feeling

[00:01:09] i'm lucy yeah lucy came back i did and this is the cast of us episode 606

[00:01:17] and this episode we're covering the walking dead daryl dixon season two episode for

[00:01:22] la paradis potroi which means heaven right for isabel i guess before we get into this week's

[00:01:32] episode i want to mention that early voting has started in almost every state in the u.s

[00:01:39] and lots of you guys have been letting us know that you voted i'll i'm going to go through a few

[00:01:45] natalie collins sent a picture of her ballot and i voted sticker robin springer who put up a post

[00:01:50] actually asking people to tell their voting story said i registered to vote in 1974 when i turned 18

[00:01:55] i voted in local elections and then jimmy carter was my first presidential vote i've never let my

[00:01:59] registration lapse in three states and i've never missed an election i can't even say that i've

[00:02:05] missed a couple here and there not the presidential ones but yeah uh kelly burgess said i voted in 2000

[00:02:11] but felt so frustrated by how that election went that i stopped voting then 2016 came along and

[00:02:16] jason cabassi kept encouraging listeners to vote so i made sure i was registered and have been voting

[00:02:20] since awesome that makes me feel really good amazing kelly maria lawson said i've worked as

[00:02:25] an election officer since 2020 and got my vote in early in person today bonus i took my mom with

[00:02:30] me and she voted early too well don't can't maria and your mom i i signed up i've worked uh as a

[00:02:37] poll worker a couple of times and i signed up for this one too um and they said yes but then it took

[00:02:44] me so long to go and do the you have to go through the instructions and everything and watch a video

[00:02:49] and then they sent me a message saying oh we already have enough people so you don't need to do it so

[00:02:54] i guess a lot of people that's a good reason yeah yeah that's a good reason to not have to do i think

[00:02:58] karen does it as well doesn't she oh does she maybe i mean karen morvey yeah i think i don't know i

[00:03:02] might be wrong by the way here's a message from her she said registered as soon as i could i voted in

[00:03:06] every election my ballot is done mailing tomorrow lfg yay so we got so many i'm not going to read them

[00:03:13] all but um other people who chimed in mary k owens randy stevenson danielle de ment jost alex

[00:03:21] kruger stephanie horch penny lennox wendy uh beth pyre pyre lisa edmondson walker rachel fowler

[00:03:30] and karen schmiel cone so thank you so much to everyone for voting and for taking the time to

[00:03:36] write in and let us know i would vote for every single one of those people they're all amazing

[00:03:41] and if you need to find out how to vote if you're feeling inspired just go to vote.org and you

[00:03:46] you'll find all the information you need there amazing so let's talk about voting some more no

[00:03:52] i'm just kidding all right it's walking dead daryl dixon season two episode for la paradise

[00:03:56] what did you think about this one in general um i had a whiskey before i came on today because

[00:04:04] i was not a fan of this episode at all i'm i'm rethinking my relationship with this show

[00:04:10] in that i think i've been overly forgiving of some red flags that i should have been wise to

[00:04:16] earlier um yeah i do not think this was a good hour of television what did you think uh you so last

[00:04:23] time uh dina was on what did you think about last week did you listen to us i did i thought dina was

[00:04:30] amazing um i always love hearing from dina because women romance novels yes all of it um i was kind of

[00:04:39] midway between you both but by the time i listened to you i'd already watched this one

[00:04:43] so when you were like i don't know about this this might be it for me i was like oh wait till you get

[00:04:47] to next week so i was like i was like if that was that week for you this was that week for me for sure

[00:04:53] well i thought this show even when um yeah i'm not loving the writing i think there's a lot of

[00:05:04] perplexing things and things that don't make sense i feel that they're changing things in a way

[00:05:11] where i feel my intelligence being insulted like they're thinking and they won't pay attention they

[00:05:17] won't notice that we changed course on this and it doesn't make sense anymore so it's kind of

[00:05:21] disjointed and odd but i do still enjoy it i'm enjoying there's some great moments and

[00:05:28] um parts that were really exciting and i also think that maybe because they have there in france that

[00:05:38] um makes me feel a little better about the craziness of it because it's already crazy for them to be in

[00:05:45] france so it's almost like an anything goes kind of feeling and um that i but still i'm like yeah i yeah

[00:05:53] the writing just i feel like the before there it was crazy but the writing was made up for it but now

[00:06:01] with the writing suffering it's all just starting to be like i don't know i'm not having that fear the

[00:06:07] walking dead feeling yet but it could go that way i'm sort of doing like a fear the walking dead

[00:06:12] bestel test where i'm like if this was on fear would i forgive it and a lot of the answers are no

[00:06:16] and i'm like why am i forgiving it in this because if it was this show but set in the u.s

[00:06:21] then i think i would be a lot more critical yeah exactly i'm like i don't know i sort of feel like

[00:06:27] my summary of this week is carol came in broke the fourth wall and now everything is terrible

[00:06:32] i don't know it's just like there's something about the two of them together that has just taken

[00:06:37] me right out of it and i'm just like oh i don't i don't like the way they've just cleared house for

[00:06:42] carol to come in i don't like yeah like everyone is dead now and for me it's not because of carol

[00:06:48] herself no but it's just the writing has gone down it's the way that they've got there it's the way

[00:06:55] that they've been like i i just wish they hadn't written carol in this season i i wanted to see how

[00:06:59] the story played out without having to do the mental gymnastics of getting carol there yeah i mean if

[00:07:04] they hadn't written carol in yet and the writing was the same level i would be just as saying the

[00:07:11] same things like for me it doesn't have anything to do with carol it she she's an unfortunate um

[00:07:17] it's unfortunate for her and for melissa mcbride that she came in right now as the writing is going

[00:07:22] downhill that's how i see it i don't know see i disagree i think the writing is partly going

[00:07:27] downhill because carol they're trying to get her into it and they're doing stuff like they're clearing

[00:07:31] house so that there's not extraneous stuff and they can focus and reset on having a carol and

[00:07:36] daryl show and that bothers me yeah but there's so many other things not at all related to carol

[00:07:42] where i feel like they're uh doing things in a way that makes it clear they intended on something else

[00:07:51] but now they've changed course like for example uh losang begged daryl to stay when he met him last

[00:07:58] season right and now we know that losang had always intended to bring laurent to mont saint michel

[00:08:05] in order to do this uh ceremony to have him get bitten and show because he felt he was losing his

[00:08:12] grasp on his people he had that conversation with isabel in this episode so i mean i think that's

[00:08:17] a retcon i don't think they had that in mind at all with losang otherwise why would you beg this guy who

[00:08:23] is a badass skeptic who cares about laurent to stay no you would be like oh have a nice time in america

[00:08:29] you need to leave right away i you know get him out of there as quickly as possible so that has

[00:08:34] nothing to do with carol and it's just one example of how they've just sort of changed the story and

[00:08:41] expected us not to notice in my opinion counterpoint it has everything to do with carol because they had

[00:08:46] to figure out a way to wreck the nest to give an explanation about why daryl wouldn't stay yeah but

[00:08:52] they had to come up with story no matter what so yeah maybe that was the story that they're coming up

[00:08:57] i love that we're agreeing but disagreeing this is hilarious we're both like yeah it's crap but

[00:09:00] let's argue about why it's crap um i think they're trying i genuinely think like they're trying to do

[00:09:06] a soft reset and it's not working because they're getting rid of what made the show good well what

[00:09:10] would they have done then otherwise how do you mean like they've ended this with daryl in this sort of

[00:09:18] pleasant location and jenay is the enemy so they would have had they would have had to have come up

[00:09:27] with some conflict for some reason i mean jenay was going to attack the nest that would have been

[00:09:31] really straightforward but but you don't you don't need losang to do any of that what they're trying

[00:09:36] to do is clear the deck of characters that we care about or liked but they don't you don't need

[00:09:41] losang to turn to to clear the deck anyway you could just have jenay attack yeah it makes it easier

[00:09:50] it makes it easier if we're like losang was a bit of a decade like because what i don't know for the

[00:09:55] listeners like not the listeners for the viewers we're like not we're not so right they're trying

[00:10:02] to do a reset for daryl and carol to come and for us to be jazzed about it we don't agree on that

[00:10:06] what they're doing yeah so that's where we disagree that's where we disagree but i feel like that's

[00:10:10] what they're doing because they're trying to pair it all the way back down and in doing that they're

[00:10:14] like right well who can we get rid of who can we kill right sylvie's fallen off a building and emile's

[00:10:19] dead after a weird character change losang people seem to like him what can we do to uh right he'll

[00:10:24] be a turncoat who actually was evil the whole time that's fine isabel well we all knew she was gonna die

[00:10:29] like three episodes ago so you think they might have had something else in mind but then when

[00:10:33] melissa mcbride finally agreed to uh be on the show they decided to just change direction and now

[00:10:39] they're clearing the decks right i think so yeah okay maybe there is something to that but

[00:10:44] i also think that if carol hadn't it's not the only reason it should yeah if carol hadn't come

[00:10:51] back then they were still going to have to make story and and it just feels like one of those things

[00:10:56] where the way it ended up with daryl there it seemed kind of boring like he's in this place where

[00:11:02] everyone's nice and they're like no we can't have that we need to have conflict to make the drama let's

[00:11:07] make something not nice you know i don't know for sure if that is just because of carol maybe but

[00:11:14] i don't know we don't know for sure yeah we don't know for sure well all we know is that it's

[00:11:20] frustrating yeah that we can agree on and not the most fun to watch as a viewer um i think the line

[00:11:26] if if i was going to go into my first point the line where they properly it's not even a point really but

[00:11:31] the line where they properly had me just like throwing stuff at the wall was when daryl was like

[00:11:37] so who came back and carol said oh it wasn't really a person it was more of a feeling and i'm like that's

[00:11:43] bollocks yeah that's stone-cold bollocks who oh my god and that see that's another sort of

[00:11:52] that is a shitty piece of writing and yeah it's a shitty piece of retcon writing it's it involves carol

[00:11:59] but it's just like they didn't have to change that because carol came back they could have just

[00:12:09] had her say it was rick yeah oh yeah remember rick he came back instead it's like it was like a feel

[00:12:16] i'm like yeah and the reason they're doing that is because um carol says everything in the commonwealth

[00:12:25] got so quiet all that old stuff came back like ghosts so i got out of there so they're trying to

[00:12:30] make it make sense why she's freshly upset and vulnerable about sophia and having these ptsd

[00:12:37] moments whenever she sees a barn you know um because sorry sorry the way you said that was

[00:12:43] quite funny i mean and this barn didn't even look anything like an american barn so it's a little

[00:12:47] ridiculous but it was a european barn yeah it's like maybe i don't know wait that's a barn oh my god

[00:12:53] but um because things she said yeah things were quiet and she wasn't occupied with other problems

[00:13:00] that's when she started i guess thinking about sophia again but there have been long time jumps

[00:13:04] in the walking dead where presumably there were a few quiet weeks in there and so it doesn't really

[00:13:09] make sense um but anyway um just since you brought that up i want to mention the other thing i had to

[00:13:15] say about that which is that it seems like rick and michonne then have not come back uh at this

[00:13:21] point otherwise she would have mentioned that and also last we saw carol she was at the commonwealth

[00:13:27] so i presume that's where she's based and she's saying you know judith misses you and yeah she

[00:13:32] doesn't mention judith she gives him that doll that judith made for him so it seems like if rick and

[00:13:39] michonne were back maybe they would be at alexandria right and judith would have gone there with them

[00:13:44] so but really the main thing is she just doesn't mention it and she totally would mention it so it

[00:13:49] just seems so stupid like so insulting to have her say it was a feeling like i wanted to tell you

[00:13:53] about this feeling over the radio that i was thinking about sophia again no come on i hated it

[00:13:58] i got so i was just like this is garbage i was like i'm i actually was like i have to pause this

[00:14:03] yeah i don't blame you because there is like there's psychology around the fact that like when sometimes

[00:14:09] when things are steady in your life that's when you process trauma like i get i know that from a

[00:14:13] personal experience sure but it makes no fucking sense in the context of this show like it just

[00:14:19] doesn't it doesn't make sense for carol to be on that journey at this point it doesn't make sense for

[00:14:24] her to have used valuable radio time to yeah tell daryl that like it's just and then to give us this

[00:14:30] little hint that oh what did she say and then have this be the resolution like we don't care it's so

[00:14:36] cheap i i'm so glad we agree on this because i've it made me really angry yeah it's just like

[00:14:41] me too i was like what the i wrote down in my notes let me see all right wtf and we don't even

[00:14:48] get like a hint that like she doesn't like in so in the ones who live spoiler alert for the ones who

[00:14:54] live michonne doesn't tell rick about rj but we get a hint in the way she says it that there's more to

[00:15:00] tell she's like later i'll tell you later like we know she's withholding that information which is

[00:15:05] a bit weird in the context of the moment that she's doing it but whatever it works overall in

[00:15:09] the story with carol there's not even a hint that she's evading or she's genuinely like yeah it was

[00:15:15] a feeling yeah no i'm pretty sure they reticlined it and rick hasn't been back yet for carol otherwise

[00:15:21] it's even stupider than an artist oh i forgot to tell you like if the final scene of this series is

[00:15:28] them turning up at alexandria and carol being like hey tol didn't tell you yeah i wanted to make it a

[00:15:34] surprise i'm like what the fuck so yeah that that was one of my points was just that kind of summed up

[00:15:40] for me why the second season isn't working is because they're not they're just not i don't i don't want

[00:15:46] to say respecting the viewers but there's just things like that like that's fucking cheap like don't do

[00:15:50] that that's garbage if that happened in fear i would have stopped watching which i did like you

[00:15:55] know there we go um yeah so that my first point is that kind of thing and i just i guess to expand

[00:16:02] it into like carol and darryl are reunited it just left me a bit cold i didn't feel anything when they

[00:16:10] like ran to each other and hugged i was just a bit like uh like i didn't i don't know i really because

[00:16:16] i'm a sucker for a reunion like i love it but i just was like i don't know that i i'm feeling it i

[00:16:22] don't know that this feels like a payoff i don't know that i'm feeling the anticipation and and kind of

[00:16:29] joy of this moment in the right way i did it's kind of like for me um you know a pig rooting around

[00:16:36] for in the mud for truffles like this episode is mud and yeah the there were a few truffles in there

[00:16:44] and and the um yeah i didn't i forgot there's actually a truffle part in this yeah but anyways

[00:16:52] yeah like the maybe that wasn't on purpose let's make a shitty episode with the truffle metaphor with

[00:16:57] good moments in it uh that's so clever actually i think this is a brilliant episode no i'm just

[00:17:02] kidding um you're like i've changed my mind it's amazing but the moment where they so the guy the

[00:17:08] kid comes like running away from crazy super zeds and goes into daryl's cell and then he lets him

[00:17:14] that guy was very cute he should have a spin-off he was far too good looking to have a silent part

[00:17:19] i was like oh hello and then i'm like oh he probably died well he may not have a good personality we have

[00:17:24] to see what he says first but anyway maybe he won't care i don't know but um but anyway so daryl gets out

[00:17:30] he's flailing his way through a bunch of zombies and people who cares just kill them all and then and

[00:17:35] then he's faced with carol and they like there's a moment and then they run and hug and he cries

[00:17:41] and that got me i was totally like oh this is this is great because i i just think them two together

[00:17:48] are good those two together and yeah so i'm two together are good so i i'm going back to southern

[00:17:57] spike no i'm just kidding sorry people from the south just kidding but um anyways i did i did enjoy

[00:18:04] that moment i i was touched by it they don't blame you for not being not being i think

[00:18:11] the the overall impression i have of this episode that is so tonally jarring like i don't understand

[00:18:17] what i'm supposed to feel especially we're having this chaotic death death death and then oh let's sit

[00:18:23] down to a nice egg breakfast with this quaint couple for like half an hour couple who are going

[00:18:30] to teach us about love for half an hour i'm like what the fuck and like french history i'm like i mean

[00:18:35] i like i actually liked the second half of the episode i found a lot more to like in but it felt

[00:18:42] so disjointed yeah so disjointed so and i'm like aren't you guys in a hurry like you're trying to

[00:18:47] get to this kid and we'll stay overnight then they spend a whole nother day fixing the car

[00:18:53] and i was also like those truffles are going to be poisoned or something um but yeah it was it

[00:19:02] there's so much in it to get on to and yeah my first point is really just there were a couple of

[00:19:07] moments where i really just lost okay temper at the show and that was one of them i i don't blame you

[00:19:13] i i felt similarly okay my first point is attack on mont saint michelle oh let's do it helms deep but

[00:19:20] make it french so so i kind of dug at the end of last week's episode jane had just given this rousing

[00:19:27] speech to her troops and then now we see right after that she immediately had her guys mow them

[00:19:33] all down and of course she did and and i didn't i didn't realize that was going to happen maybe

[00:19:39] people watching did but i didn't and so when i went back and watched her speech again it took a

[00:19:45] different meaning to me at first i thought she was just like rousing them to go fight right

[00:19:49] maybe oh no no she was gonna yeah fuck them up yeah i mean because she says i mean i think the speech

[00:19:55] is deliberately written in a way so at least i mean i didn't know what she meant but neither did

[00:19:59] these people that it was meant to for them to think they were being uh inspired or like a pep talk

[00:20:06] so she says you've been chosen for this mission because you're about to become my most devoted

[00:20:10] most ferocious and most fearless pouvoir fighting unit the super zeds no i'm just kidding

[00:20:17] she said i salute you and offer my deepest gratitude so many years of research patience

[00:20:22] and commitment have brought us to this day and then you see the researcher guy fiddling with

[00:20:26] his syringe and other tools and i just thought she meant we have some zombies over here on the side

[00:20:31] that you can't see yet you know and i think that's just off stage probably what they thought right they

[00:20:37] didn't know they were about to get killed and turned into zombies then she goes right here right now

[00:20:42] you will be making the noblest sacrifice as we crush the union's tyranny of false hope in the name

[00:20:46] of liberty equality and fraternity you will remember it as heroes always and then she tells

[00:20:51] carol i'm giving what you what you asked for you're going to kill your friend and has the guy push carol

[00:20:55] in with the rest of them so the whole time janae's plan for carol was that she'd given the opportunity

[00:20:59] to kill daryl as a as a super zed so i was like the minute i saw this last week i was like one of

[00:21:06] my favorite books i'm just gonna do a tangent it's like who cares but no it's not a tangent it's kind

[00:21:09] of relevant one of my favorite books is a book called captain corelli's mandolin by lewis de

[00:21:14] bernier which came out in like the late 90s i think there's a film of it with nicholas cage it's terrible

[00:21:19] do not watch the film it robs the book of like everything that's good but there's a scene in

[00:21:24] captain corelli's mandolin where one of the characters is in a group of people that are about

[00:21:28] to be summerly executed in this way and the way that the character survives is a larger broader

[00:21:34] character who is in love with this person pulls him behind him and holds him very very tightly at

[00:21:41] his back so that while he's getting shot he's taking all the bullets for captain corelli who is

[00:21:46] miraculously saved because this big guy has like held him behind his back but like captain corelli

[00:21:52] is like fucked up by this like his ribs are broken like he still has to recover like blah blah blah so

[00:21:58] i was watching this last week and i'm like carol's gonna do a captain corelli it's not gonna make

[00:22:02] any sense because she's gonna be absolutely fine yeah all these people around her are gonna be

[00:22:05] yeah i mean there's like a hundred people it's dumb and carol just happens to be the one who

[00:22:11] didn't get hit i think that's totally fine just kidding it's stupid you're like that's logical

[00:22:17] and then the soldiers shoot darts into all of them and carol gets one shot into her and she's just oh

[00:22:24] pulls it out that's annoying and i'm like well we later see janae get one shot and her face explodes but i

[00:22:30] guess if you pull it out within the first second you get nothing no no impact at all

[00:22:38] so dumb so then then this i mean this isn't even the worst part i'm about to tell you what i think

[00:22:45] is the worst thing about this episode so this vehicle arrives with code drone strapped to the

[00:22:49] back of it as bait to lure the zombies right to that's how they're gonna get them to the fortress

[00:22:55] and carol's lying there with this massive dead bodies they start to turn all twitchy and aggressive

[00:23:00] i like that that was kind of cool that was fun right i have to say anything with the the mad zed's

[00:23:05] running felt really like kingdom which i enjoyed a lot yeah very cool very cool yeah absolutely i love

[00:23:10] it so then she runs away in time of course and just gets a car throws the guy out and that soldier

[00:23:18] just like i mean she also in another scene just like she's hiding in the shadows and somebody walks

[00:23:25] by and she fucking james bond kicks him in the face so i'm like this is carol i mean she's badass but

[00:23:31] come on anyways i feel like like when i'm watching a fast and furious film i'm like many innocent people

[00:23:37] have died yeah i don't like it so then she all right so she drives this car that's meant to lure

[00:23:46] these zombies right towards mont saint michelle where she knows daryl is like she's carrying out

[00:23:52] jenny's plan she knows that right she knows she's leading all these crazy zed straight to daryl and and

[00:23:57] and i'm like this is a bit of a jump but she's indirectly responsible for isabel's death because

[00:24:04] losang was distracted by this attack that carol's leading and and that's when isabel cut him and then

[00:24:11] he stabbed her for it so maybe that would have happened anyway but we'll never know so anyway

[00:24:15] carol races towards mont saint michelle with the zeds frantically chasing her and then she stops in

[00:24:21] front because there's no clear way in and jenny's guys are like fire the mortar and they fire it and

[00:24:25] blow up this door right for carol to go through which she does and i imagine them back there going

[00:24:30] i can't believe this moron's actually carrying out our plan for us yeah jenny's like we cannot have

[00:24:36] another glass of red wine she threw the guy out of the car but then she just went right where he was

[00:24:40] gonna drive anyway and so she leads them through and guys are shooting at her and i'm like of course they

[00:24:46] are she's leading these zombies in to kill them which they do that was pretty gruesome and great like

[00:24:51] you said like all those things are awesome but then carol runs over this guy shooting at her and i'm like

[00:24:56] she doesn't even know they're bad guys if they even are she's with people attacking this fortress

[00:25:02] i went back to see what codron told carol about where daryl was to see if maybe he gave the impression

[00:25:08] that daryl was being held by bad people but he just said you know he's in this fortress if jenny finds

[00:25:13] him first he's a dead man so no so then she cuts codron loose and he says i did it for the boy tell

[00:25:20] dixon i did it for the boy so now we know he's like negan he has a soft spot for children that's why

[00:25:24] he's you know yeah and then i will say one thing we didn't see him die so i do wonder if like

[00:25:31] codron is just going to be like the the black knight from holy grail where he just turns up with like

[00:25:36] more and more horrific injuries and he's like ah they have not killed me yet but you know whatever

[00:25:41] shit end for him yeah i don't think he's dead um so then um you know there's chaos everywhere and a

[00:25:49] couple of men go past carol not even seeing her and i don't know i think i don't think jenny's men

[00:25:57] have made it inside yet i don't know for sure but they they may be los ang's men they may be jenny's

[00:26:03] but she's like hey over here excuse me and then she kills him and i'm like why are you killing people

[00:26:08] that just went by and didn't even see you why why are you doing that lust for blood why because it's

[00:26:14] chaotic and you might as well and then and then that she kicks the guy in the face james bond style

[00:26:20] and her leg i mean okay yeah let's okay sure then isabel who who has been stabbed by los ang at this

[00:26:27] point wakes up and stumbles out and this crazed zed bears down on her but carol shoots it dead

[00:26:32] and then she tenderly asks isabel if she's all right i'm like well why don't you kill her too you're

[00:26:36] killing everyone else you don't know her confused me i i did think how funny it would be if carol killed

[00:26:42] isabel and then realize later yeah just like threw an axe at her head battle badass oh that was your

[00:26:48] friend that was your girlfriend buddy sorry like oh so it was i mean i'll stop there but i thought

[00:26:57] the whole thing while being exciting was completely ridiculous so many people died on both sides so

[00:27:06] pointless so pointless all these deaths like i just i mean she should have you know rally or

[00:27:12] led the zombies to attack jenna and herman yeah not daryl people was like can she only go forward

[00:27:20] is there like no other way to like drive away from it and i'm like well i was like trying to stick up

[00:27:24] for it i was like this is when i realized i had to question my own relationship with the show because

[00:27:29] i was like well you know logically like because of the tide and he was like looking at me like

[00:27:33] what are you talking about and i'm like it's battered wife syndrome you have to realize he's no good

[00:27:37] for you it's no good for me like this is not helping like it's i'm a frog in boiling water and i need to

[00:27:42] get out like this is not okay it's so dumb and i think i did think dina was right last week i thought

[00:27:49] isabel had been bitten as well like the way that she was and i guess we were never shown it you could

[00:27:54] read it that she was but i don't think the show doesn't tell us that i think she was just beaten

[00:27:59] roughed up but then she ends up dying anyway so i thought her death was on a stupidity level

[00:28:06] of a level with beth's death in the main show i was like this is fucking stupid yeah i'm like this

[00:28:12] is how it ends for her justice for isabel that was awful if the right if the rest of the writing of

[00:28:18] the episode was good then here's how i would um rationalize what happened because she slashes

[00:28:25] etlos saying and then he stabs her seemingly in a just um impulsive violent motion right just wow how'd

[00:28:33] you do but it really goes against his character he's been calm and he's talked about we need to

[00:28:39] um think about things before we act and stuff like that so if i was being charitable and the writing

[00:28:44] was good enough i would say well that he that a lot of people do that they talk a certain game but

[00:28:50] they're kind of projecting like he he was telling daryl you're the one who's impulsive and violent

[00:28:55] but really people project sometimes and he had those qualities himself but given the way the rest of the

[00:29:01] episode went i'm like man that's just bad writing and out of character for him truly truly just bad

[00:29:08] it was so dumb and i think i will segue this into to isabel's death which is one of my points

[00:29:14] um does daryl give a shit because the episode doesn't have us thinking that he does he seems

[00:29:20] like weirdly fine with the whole thing like i just couldn't i would say like the same level of bummed as

[00:29:27] like i don't know dog shat on the floor or something like i wouldn't say that he's like

[00:29:33] heartbroken and i get that he's like this you know guy who like holds his feelings well he cried when

[00:29:39] he hugged carol my point exactly i'm like and for isabel he's just like i'm like this is not a

[00:29:47] critique of clement's posy who i think is amazing and did a really good job in this role absolutely but

[00:29:53] see these death scenes where they're like i'm i'm so cold tell me a story or like some shit where

[00:30:01] they're like i can see the farm back home and things like that and you're like oh my god this is so

[00:30:05] trash it's trash writing um she acted it really well but the writing was garbage and daryl was just

[00:30:11] like very not bothered by it he was just much like fear i feel like they all did a pretty damn good job

[00:30:18] acting this script as best of their ability you know yeah there was a point where she was like

[00:30:24] talking about um laurent and and they're both kind of just going okay okay okay and i'm like this feels

[00:30:30] kind of human this feels kind of like what you think your last you know it feels like this is the

[00:30:35] kind of thing that could be being said in this situation but i hated the whole like i can see

[00:30:40] the far flanks they're beautiful i was just like oh my god this is so dumb and then carol's just

[00:30:46] standing there really awkwardly and daryl's just like mildly inconvenienced and doesn't really

[00:30:50] mention it for the rest of the episode like i think it was so weird more than that but because

[00:30:55] he did later on he said something about her because carol said i'm surprised you had friends here and

[00:31:01] he said yeah the longer i stayed here yeah that's how she phrased it i'm surprised you had friends

[00:31:05] you made connections or whatever he's the longer i stayed here the harder it was to leave and then

[00:31:10] carol said you loved her so i don't think it was like no big deal at all but it was a less emotional

[00:31:16] reaction than he had towards seeing carol there this this is what i mean about tonally weird this episode

[00:31:22] like the the this is why i that problem i have with it is like i'm not asking for daryl to like

[00:31:27] throw himself on the ground and be like the love of my life the light of my loins i've loved you more

[00:31:33] than any woman you know like any of that shit i'm just expecting a little bit more than what we got

[00:31:38] which was just i mean he was like we got to get her out of here like in denial about how wounded she

[00:31:43] was and then she's like it's too late and he was like okay oh i guess you got a good point there sorry

[00:31:50] and he's like oh yeah that's fine okay uh i guess i'll go find the wrong it's like yeah okay

[00:31:55] okay bye anyway i thought i thought his reaction to that was quite weird i just didn't

[00:32:02] it didn't feel i thought isabel deserved a better send-off and a better reaction to that i just

[00:32:09] thought she's been such a key character we've really come to like her and it just felt like

[00:32:13] it fizzled out there i loved i loved seeing her even though i thought it was ridiculous and that in

[00:32:18] all likelihood she actually would be shot in the face i actually did like seeing her and carol together

[00:32:22] like i like the idea that they have this connection and that carol is caring for her in that moment

[00:32:27] but that involved a great amount of mental gymnastics and suspension of disbelief yeah will we see

[00:32:33] zombie her because i don't think she i don't think so they talk the second watch i realize jennae

[00:32:40] confirms to um lo saying that she's dead but yeah so but we don't yeah i don't know

[00:32:48] sure brain didn't get destroyed i would have liked more the man's posy but the writing

[00:32:54] was very much on the wall for her um oh yeah i would have liked to have seen the dynamic between

[00:32:59] her and carol and daryl i would have liked to have seen how that played out but clearly

[00:33:02] yeah it could have been cleared so here we are yeah okay well that goes into my point carol and daryl

[00:33:09] together which it's you know for some the long-awaited return of those two and i did think there was some

[00:33:15] great stuff but some weird stuff and the way it was presented made me like it less you know um so

[00:33:23] we see them reunite and i was as i said touched by that moment but then immediately he she takes him to

[00:33:30] isabel and there's yeah it was a sad scene for two reasons one because i don't want to lose that

[00:33:40] character and two because it was a fizzle of an ending for her like we just talked about it was

[00:33:46] just lame and then right as the light in her eyes goes out carol's hand is on daryl's shoulder and

[00:33:54] i just think the show made a mistake there because we we kind of figured isabel wouldn't last you know

[00:34:03] and be a regular going forward in the rest of the series but the way they did it for people who are

[00:34:10] just enjoying having daryl be solo and were into the daryl isabel romance and not sure about how

[00:34:15] having carol come in and change the show it especially stings that she died right as carol came in

[00:34:21] and it positions carol as a possibly unwelcome replacement something that the show now has to

[00:34:27] overcome and we liked her so much that it would have been good at least to have some time to mourn her

[00:34:33] before expected to be all excited about the fun of carol and daryl being together you know it just

[00:34:39] framed it in a way that makes them have to overcome our anger about how it was presented

[00:34:47] i mean it's such a show so i shouldn't get that upset but whatever no but it's i think it's it

[00:34:52] is deserved because they did such this is the thing is they did such a good job in season one like

[00:34:58] it was a good season and isabel was a huge part of why that was good yeah and this woman who

[00:35:03] had this amazing trajectory and did badass things and had this amazing backstory of like the way

[00:35:10] that her life used to be and how she's changed and how she's found her faith she deserved more

[00:35:14] than kind of a half-hearted stab in the gut and then sort of bleeding out and then being immediately

[00:35:21] kind of forgotten about because i know they do talk about her in the rest of the episode but it felt like

[00:35:25] she was forgotten about yeah because then they really want to jump to oh remember how fun it is when

[00:35:31] carol and daryl are together and there's i i'm divided because i do find it fun but also it just

[00:35:38] reinforces what you're saying that oh daryl just jumps right into a fun conversation right he's not

[00:35:44] mourning yeah he's fine yeah and so when um daryl's saying something like you came all this way on just a

[00:35:50] hunch i'd be here and she goes yeah i just flew halfway around the world on a feeling i thought yeah

[00:35:54] that's cute and in a different context i would love that right and then when she's laughing at

[00:36:00] daryl speaking french you know that's funny if we weren't stung by this whole thing and then if we

[00:36:07] weren't like isabel died two hours ago yeah and then i could not help but but laugh at the part where

[00:36:14] they're trying to get the car running and he's under the hood and she's in the driver's seat he goes

[00:36:17] all right go ahead give it some gas just a little she revs it up stop i said a little that was a

[00:36:22] little no that was too much how am i supposed to know how much is too much well you listen and it

[00:36:26] sounds like it's too much there's too much you're too much maybe you're too much what what what what

[00:36:33] what like that was hilarious but i have to like sort of go okay here's a little truffle

[00:36:38] ignore all the mud around it yeah exactly and and it felt it felt almost too soon as well for that

[00:36:46] more in the sense like they've only been back together like two days this is weird but you know it

[00:36:51] was good it was nice to see i'm not going to be too mean about it because with your best friends

[00:36:54] you can go back into it really quickly like yes that's what it reminded me of when you're away from

[00:37:00] family for a while because you were on a trip or something and then you get back together and

[00:37:06] there's this like good feeling even though you fall back into your old patter and it's just like

[00:37:12] we're back together you know yeah so it's a mixed bag for me it's a mixed bag it's that's what i mean

[00:37:18] when i say it was totally dissonant this episode it was just like what what yeah why what am i

[00:37:23] supposed to feel but then a weird part that i was sort of hoping we were long past so there they meet

[00:37:30] this old couple right and i guess daryl yeah tracked laurent there i couldn't really figure out why they

[00:37:37] thought he was there but i guess he's got his tracking skills so anyway um this woman thinks that

[00:37:42] carol is isabel and carol doesn't tell her otherwise for some reason uh i guess she didn't

[00:37:48] want to make it complicated i don't know and then she's talking to her about laurent's and says and the

[00:37:53] way he talked about the two of you thinking you know it was isabel and daryl sometimes children see

[00:37:59] things we're afraid to look at laurent thinks daryl loves you but won't say it because if he says it he

[00:38:04] won't be able to leave and so she's talking about isabel but i think the point is for carol to wonder

[00:38:09] or think about whether the same is true for her and daryl that there's something there and they're

[00:38:13] afraid to look at it you know or at least consider the nature of their relationship and i'm like don't

[00:38:18] go there right after no isabel died and then carol says it's more complicated than that and the woman

[00:38:25] says not to a child and then this woman tells carol she lost her family but quote one must look for a

[00:38:31] way to keep living and right then her boyfriend comes in and they start dancing romantically as carol

[00:38:36] looks on and it's like she's suggesting and nudging her towards you should find a reason to keep living

[00:38:43] even though sophia's dead and you should get with daryl and i'm like are they really going there again

[00:38:48] with this yeah it felt weird it felt really really weird i was like no we don't want this no none of

[00:38:55] i mean there are some fans who want it maybe you know actually one of the listeners i forget who was

[00:39:00] like oh i was bummed about isabel and daryl because i always wanted carol and daryl to get together

[00:39:06] so maybe that person is really happy about the way things have gone like you got your wish so

[00:39:11] congratulations that sounded really mean i'm sorry i mean genuinely you got your wish congratulations

[00:39:15] like so that's enough about them though yeah mixed bag i am i enjoyed dd as a character i thought

[00:39:28] she was wonderful i kind of want to go and that's the women at the french women yeah i yeah i enjoyed

[00:39:34] her too i would love to go and stay in her house and have her make me eggs and tell me amazing stories

[00:39:39] about the french resistance in world war ii she seemed wonderful um and i was genuinely sad when

[00:39:45] she died and i realized when i watched it the second time we actually do kind of see her gets you see her

[00:39:51] you don't realize it's because she's been stabbed but you see her collapsing onto the guy and it was all

[00:39:57] very very sad um and i did laugh when they were there were a couple of things about them that made

[00:40:02] me laugh one was when he made daryl push him in the wheelbarrow just because for some reason i feel like

[00:40:07] my dad would make me do that in the apocalypse like he'd be like i'll put my walking shoes on and then

[00:40:10] i'd end up having to wheelbarrow him right quirky and fun it was very like um very like amelie or

[00:40:18] something a kind of quirky french film and i sort of i thought for a minute i was like wouldn't it be

[00:40:22] nice if princess was here because i think she would really dig this like village of walkers that's

[00:40:27] what it reminded me of but i i don't know with the right me not loving the writing then something like

[00:40:32] that happens and i'm like yeah that's kind of dumb if the writing had been good then maybe i would be

[00:40:36] more charitable towards it no i completely all the zombies like he's saying hello hello

[00:40:42] like whatever and the um the old guy who thinks he's going to work tomorrow also made me laugh a

[00:40:50] little bit where he's like make sure everything's back in place before the morning so i can go to

[00:40:53] work and they're like i kind of like that he's talking about florida which i loved yeah they said

[00:40:59] something about oh yeah he's forgotten everything including the zombies and daryl's like must be nice

[00:41:05] i like that little exchange i thought he and carol were sweet with him as well they're like it's on

[00:41:10] our bucket list like i'm like oh they're nice little people um but i i loved i thought dd had

[00:41:16] a really noble ending and i looked up she when i loved the thing she said to jenay it was very

[00:41:21] melodramatique but i loved it when she was like my father told me about you and it's like oh evil

[00:41:26] and there's a lot in this episode about evil having different forms and like wars come and go and

[00:41:32] i think the i don't know what the gentleman's name was dd's partner i don't were we ever told i don't

[00:41:39] i don't know i didn't even know her name was dd yeah anyway old french guy saying you know

[00:41:44] we sold carrots to the germans then we sold carrots to the nazis then we did this to jet american gis

[00:41:50] now like there is a point to that of like some people are just surviving like for some people it's

[00:41:54] about how can i live the life i want to live and it reminded me of ezekiel when we first meet him

[00:42:00] and you find out he's giving the saviors meat from animals that have been eating walkers and it's just

[00:42:07] like these little resistance movements and the way that you can cope with living under duress or

[00:42:12] living under um a kind of hierarchy you don't want to be in yeah i think it was pretty specifically

[00:42:19] analogous of nazi occupation of france in world war ii because she mentioned her father was one of the

[00:42:26] which is a mucky yes rebel group and um and she said yeah he told me about people like you and they

[00:42:36] they were looking for children too and they put them on trains and we know that those trains went

[00:42:42] to like concentration camps or extermination camps and i you know looked into it a little bit they

[00:42:48] also did medical experimentation on them like janae does to her people and janae goes like oh is that

[00:42:55] what you think we are and then she like 10 seconds later tells her men to kill them it's like yeah

[00:43:00] she looks horrified for one minute and i'm like i mean god bless janae she knows the best things in

[00:43:06] life she sat and ate her truffled eggs she had a glass of wine she smoked a cigarette like i'll miss

[00:43:11] that about her i'll miss her random attention she's like i'm just going to smoke a cigarette now and

[00:43:15] drink some wine and have some truffled eggs but i won't miss where like she's about like she corners

[00:43:21] this woman who just killed like three of her men and then she stands there with the gun pointed at her

[00:43:26] for a while for no reason and then gives a speech i cannot with these scenes where you think someone's

[00:43:34] gonna die and then someone comes in and shoots from off screen and oh my god it's that person i

[00:43:38] cannot with i'm done with there's another one i'm gonna like i don't know throw an egg like it's

[00:43:44] yeah it's just they should call this car um the show the walking dead plot armor the walking dead plot

[00:43:51] armor and surprise um it was done so any other stuff from dd and her partner's house um i just i

[00:43:58] thought i thought it was a sweet moment where she sympathizes with carol and is kind to her and gives

[00:44:04] her a hug because we don't often see carol with female friends of a similar age we often see her

[00:44:10] in maternal roles or in her kind of relationship with daryl which is very like platonic and they're

[00:44:15] members of the opposite sex and i thought it was so nice to see this older woman give her comfort

[00:44:20] and say i got through it and you will too um i feel like she needed that hug and deserved it yeah like a

[00:44:27] nurturing yeah i can't think of are there any older women in the walking dead i can't think there was

[00:44:35] deanna at one point but she and carol didn't really she was sort of relationship had this sort of

[00:44:41] alpha energy not like a nurturing energy necessarily yeah and i loved that and i just felt

[00:44:47] that dd i bought her kindness and i enjoyed it yes yeah i also have eaten scrambled eggs like five

[00:44:54] times since i watched this i haven't had any truffles so yeah um yeah i wanted some of those eggs

[00:45:00] the way everybody responded to them they are like sex on the mouth like yeah okay grandpa we gotta go

[00:45:08] sure but uh when they shot janae carol shoots her with one of those zombie aggro darts and it made her

[00:45:18] face all bubble and burst you know and then she dies and they didn't stab her in the head either which

[00:45:24] daryl on the walking dead would stab her in the head so i hope this doesn't mean that she comes back

[00:45:30] because that would be stupid after what we just saw right um but the fact he didn't makes me think

[00:45:36] we will see her again but we'll see but i was also surprised they killed her off if she's actually

[00:45:39] dead so soon you know i didn't expect janae to die that was and now we've got the new

[00:45:45] yeah i don't even so well back at monts michelle janae's second in command tells losang oh she's

[00:45:50] dead and he's all that proves god exists and then oh and then bollocks to that the two groups

[00:45:57] not god existing generally but losang's mental gymnastics yeah and then pouvoir de vivant is merging

[00:46:03] with union de l'espoir and they need laurent to show them the way and so i'm like janae dies and her

[00:46:09] lieutenant is like oh all that hating hope and religion stuff was done let's team up with the

[00:46:14] hope group that we just despised a few minutes ago which is a pretty lucky turn of events for losang

[00:46:20] so maybe god is helping him i don't know just stop the hating we're all friends together no and he says

[00:46:28] let us merge our dreams for a brighter future ahead is the promised land laurent will take us there of

[00:46:34] course because oh willy bollocks focal point maybe you should choose a different focal point of a kid

[00:46:39] that's actually there or something the many orphaned children that daryl and carol have created who are

[00:46:46] very traumatized like you know maybe those i don't know whatever i'm just a spitball of year

[00:46:52] anyway okay well let me do a point on losang isabel and laurent please do after isabel was

[00:46:58] pulled away from daryl in the cell last episode i think that's where we pick up see losang questioning

[00:47:03] her about where laurent is and i was glad to get a little bit of laurent's history with losang in this

[00:47:11] episode because we were sort of speculating he says he met isabel when laurent was six had heard that he

[00:47:16] was a child torn from a zombie's womb um met with laurent evaluated him thought he was special

[00:47:22] then stayed in touch for years and then when it seemed time summoned him to mont saint michelle i

[00:47:28] think well if you think this is the messiah you probably should have immediately brought him up

[00:47:33] there you know that that part was unbelievable um but then you know isabel sizzle sang some of

[00:47:41] laurent because he feared losing control so it seemed like laurent specifically summed him

[00:47:45] just to just to do the ceremony and prove that laurent was was uh special which makes it dumb that

[00:47:53] he would try to keep daryl there um but i liked isabel's take she said laurent is special but

[00:48:00] basically not magic he can die but then it was interesting she says like jesus and mohammed mohammed

[00:48:05] and buddha which is pretty sacrilege to say oh yeah jesus was just a normal guy for a religious woman

[00:48:12] yeah i thought that was her whole perspective on religion has changed yeah um i guess that's all

[00:48:20] i had on them we already talked about everything else it's interesting like i did think that was a

[00:48:24] powerful moment and again she's so clement's pussy is so good she deserved better okay daryl and laurent

[00:48:32] so daryl goes to this cave to find laurent finds his rubik's cube which laurent left as a sign

[00:48:40] it's a sign i don't know why you left it behind a rock and why daryl found it so quickly but um

[00:48:46] i have like i forget i wasn't on last week i have like major safeguarding concerns about laurent like

[00:48:51] when he's drugged to the eyeballs and daryl's like going to my special place in the woods where we go

[00:48:57] that no one else knows about and then he's like drugged by a nun and i'm just like someone needs to

[00:49:03] look after this child like it's not okay what he's going through right now there's major major red

[00:49:07] flags all over oh you care about a child i do care i do care about a child oh jason

[00:49:17] i mean honestly when they were daryl's like you know the secret place in the woods i was like peter

[00:49:22] and i looked at each other i was like he was training in there i know but it was just that

[00:49:27] combined with the fact this kid had been roofied i was just like oh my days what is happening so um

[00:49:34] this rubik's cube uh mike in massachusetts had written in saying it was like checkoff's rubik's

[00:49:39] cube so i hope mike that that satisfies you that it had a purpose it was to be a signal to daryl that

[00:49:47] laurent was there i guess and then i guess they then they're just on this grassy road and daryl's like

[00:49:53] he must have just gone through here and we can't be too far behind so i guess he's tracking

[00:49:57] him i mean or something sure there's just rubik's cubes all along the path like wait another one

[00:50:03] he should have like broken it apart and just left little tiny cubes um so then i didn't get

[00:50:10] his talk with carol along the way here he's saying he might leave laurent in france and she's like

[00:50:18] he's your responsibility and he's like maybe i don't want that and then carol's like well what

[00:50:24] about the kids back home and he goes this is different i don't want to lose him and i'm like

[00:50:28] what what are you saying like you don't care about losing the kids back home or like rj and judith i'm

[00:50:34] so glad you brought this up because the first time i watched i was like oh this is the the bluff of

[00:50:39] like oh daryl wants to stay in france and raise laurent in paris but then you're right he then is like

[00:50:45] gonna be a deadbeat dad and leave him like i don't i did not understand that it was not well written

[00:50:49] yeah and you're like you don't want to lose laurent so that's why you're leaving him here

[00:50:56] for some reason that makes sense i don't understand that i was super confused by that then carol says

[00:51:02] you don't want to end up like me it seems like they were going for something where carol was being

[00:51:07] defensive about having lost kids well i mean but i i just don't i'm confused about what what exactly was

[00:51:15] going on here and then by the end of the episode after their run-in with jenay and everything daryl

[00:51:20] says you know laurent's coming home with us right and i'm like what changed it's i mean do you ever

[00:51:25] watch pitch meeting uh on youtube yes and he would have said why yeah and he's like why did that

[00:51:31] change well because it's the end of the episode no bother at all barely an inconvenience i'm like yep

[00:51:39] yep yep and i don't know where laurent is anyway i think they mentioned falu and laurent were headed to

[00:51:44] paris i guess so maybe back to their base that they had there before i don't know by the way justice

[00:51:49] for falu daryl doesn't even mention him he's like yeah there were people i liked isabel and uh laurent

[00:51:54] and then there's like silence i'm like um falu is awesome like we love him and he helped your ass out

[00:52:00] so don't you be forgetting about falu daryl anyway that's my anger at daryl for that this week

[00:52:05] so my last point is zed experiments and variants so now that we have a better idea of the process

[00:52:15] of creating this these amped up super zeds which is that jenay has her scientists cook up this formula

[00:52:24] then they kill the person shoot him not in the head to kill them and then they inject him with this

[00:52:30] formula via syringe or dart and then they come back almost immediately as these aggressive strong fast

[00:52:38] zombies so that has me wondering if the fast strong zombie that we saw in france at the end of world

[00:52:44] beyond was actually supposed to be one of jenay's experiments because in that we saw the this character

[00:52:50] she was a scientist i think die and then come back almost immediately as an aggressive strong zombie

[00:52:55] but was not injected with a dart or anything she was not no and also in world beyond the guy who shot

[00:53:02] the scientist said she and her team created the virus and then made it worse so it almost seems i mean

[00:53:08] it it seems like one of these things where they changed the story they had something in mind that

[00:53:15] i've been talking about this whole podcast but then they changed the story and it no longer connects

[00:53:20] to what they showed before you know it feels unrelated and and it's the same thing about um

[00:53:27] carol saying someone came back and now it was talking about a feeling or lo saying pressuring

[00:53:33] daryl to stay in season one and then in season two being really clear that he would be much better

[00:53:37] off without daryl there so it just feels like the whole they're just losing control of the whole story

[00:53:43] and they don't they're like hey who care it doesn't matter it's totally the writer from the pitch

[00:53:48] meeting if you haven't seen any of those on youtube you should watch it because it feels like that guy's

[00:53:52] writing this show now he's so funny and he looks weirdly like my brother-in-law which i always

[00:53:57] find really amusing i'm like oh well i watch every single one of those the only time i don't watch is

[00:54:02] if i intend on watching the movie and i don't want to be spoiled the one for m trap the recent m night

[00:54:07] shiamlin film was so funny like i couldn't i kind of want to see that movie so i haven't i actually

[00:54:12] enjoyed it but the minute you put pressure on any of it you're like oh yeah no that makes no sense

[00:54:19] oh i wish he would watch the daryl show so we could get a pitch meeting about it

[00:54:24] oh if you're listening man please do it so that's all my main points if you want to go to notes

[00:54:32] um it's always a full moon when anything happens in the walking dead which i find interesting maybe

[00:54:37] that's why everyone's gone a bit kooky is because it's constantly the full moon

[00:54:40] um i thought cadrone like why keep him alive he i mean fine i just feel again like that actor

[00:54:47] could have had more to do maybe he's not dead and will come back but yeah the kind of uh tell them i

[00:54:53] did it for the boy i'm just like yeah all right are you are you at a point where i mean you're not at a

[00:54:59] point where you're like oh i don't even want to watch anymore right i mean no you still want to see

[00:55:03] how the car wreck ends up right that's how i feel absolutely we're not at a fear point i'm like

[00:55:08] and also there's only two episodes yeah there's only two that helps if it was like this is an 18

[00:55:12] episode season i'd be like oh no i'm sick jason i'm sick for the rest of the season and like no

[00:55:17] no and i think there's still my hope is that the bump was always going to be getting daryl and carol

[00:55:24] together and now that they're together things might pick up because everyone's in one place

[00:55:29] yeah i know but let me dream for a minute let me dream for a minute like they're together it's all

[00:55:34] gonna be fine um yeah we'll see we'll see um i've just written tree convenient a lot of this thing

[00:55:42] i'm like that's convenient um really mean that losang said that isabel's will had weakened i thought that

[00:55:50] was really rubbish of him to say that he's so self-righteous oh he's so self-righteous um and she

[00:55:56] talks about the part of her that was asleep until she met daryl that doesn't believe in

[00:55:59] false prophets anymore and i thought that was a very cool line and she died with her integrity

[00:56:03] intact um as i said the young monk very cute or whoever it was that went to save daryl when he did

[00:56:10] his like fist pump like release me um i think honestly that's about it we learn a little bit about carol

[00:56:18] at high school um but then i got so annoyed about that being followed by that it wasn't a person it

[00:56:24] was a feeling um i as i say i'm just not going to revisit that because i'll explode like jenny's face

[00:56:33] um i think that's it it was very chilling when jenny said if the dead are good for one thing it's

[00:56:41] sniffing out the living that freaked me out when i realized that what she was about to do but again

[00:56:46] we got a last minute saving shot for at least one of them yes

[00:56:50] and the bit where daryl says i never ever stopped trying to come home to you was just an abject lie

[00:56:56] like he did he went back like yeah anyway wasn't an abject lie but it was so no i don't think it's a

[00:57:04] truth because well he was always headed working with them so they could show him where the

[00:57:11] boat was you know the port and then when he found the boat he he had to save laurent so yeah i guess

[00:57:19] there he chose to save a boy he chose to save a boy and let it did then go on the boat but then

[00:57:26] he was like when's the next one out and they said two weeks so he was ready to go i think

[00:57:33] here's open here is open and yeah i have a feeling we're gonna see um ash next week or the week after

[00:57:40] having been captured by people or something like i don't know i'm i'm perturbed by what ash is up to

[00:57:47] at the moment so oh ash beautiful love him um yeah he's also not going to make out of a season

[00:57:54] alive though i think and yeah i thought the end with the ahead is the promised land laurent will

[00:57:58] take us there was just naff i was like okay i was thinking yeah because i know jennifer mcginley's

[00:58:03] just fed up with the show and uh she was saying there's no adam negatus to soften the blow and i'm

[00:58:08] like maybe she likes ash but no i think ash is too at least in this role he's not like smoldering

[00:58:14] enough i say this with love for jennifer i feel like it's a he's not skeezy enough i feel like he

[00:58:20] needs to be a bit of skis jennifer correct me if i'm wrong right you love that i feel like he's too

[00:58:24] clean cut all right um my notes uh i was sort of wondering if the aggressive zombies are aggressive

[00:58:32] forever they just run around for a hundred years or do they burn themselves out and just chill out like

[00:58:37] the rest of them or what they don't get tuckered out easy uh daryl at one point when he's walking

[00:58:45] down the path with carol he's got like cuts on his face and he's sort of got bags under his eyes

[00:58:52] and he's pale and he almost looked like a zombie to me he does yeah he really does so good uh

[00:58:58] carol said she and ash stopped in greenland to refuel uh oh we didn't see that but i guess

[00:59:07] it's good to know that they did because i thought it was dumb that they didn't before there's some

[00:59:12] very handy ethanol as well in this episode where it's like oh look there's ethanol in the bar

[00:59:18] uh carol yeah you were mentioning this tells daryl she's never basically traveled anywhere before

[00:59:25] which i kind of suspected and then she took high school french but this is her first time in france

[00:59:30] which i think that's something kind of cool about that she got to go there but it was post-apocalyptic

[00:59:35] france daryl's like i always summered in france all right i'll show you around merlin i had penpels

[00:59:41] here like did you uh sort of felt like a season finale with all the deaths and shifts and everything

[00:59:49] yeah so now we know what it means when they were saying it doesn't let up like it is pretty yeah

[00:59:56] hard driving really really is uh yeah i guess that's that's about it only on the walking dead

[01:00:02] would you lead a bunch of crazed zombies straight to your friends and be considered a badass hero

[01:00:09] only on the walking dead would your eggs staying warm be the difference between life and death

[01:00:14] hmm i mean i i did that's what i was thinking not the warmth but just the number of plates

[01:00:19] you know like yeah i was like the table is set for four right like it's pretty obvious like

[01:00:25] jenny doesn't need to be a genius to figure this one

[01:00:31] it'd be funny if they just quickly push a couple of the plates off the table what

[01:00:34] yeah smash like we actually i used your hot sauce today to make eggs we had breakfast burritos

[01:00:39] oh so you good because yeah when we how did you like it good really good yeah yeah yeah yeah

[01:00:47] peter asked me to bring some hot sauce when i went to scotland because he thinks i know about hot sauce

[01:00:53] and i do have a very favorite one which i brought but um he didn't say anything about it so i thought

[01:00:58] he was just being polite and he didn't oh no he loves it he really likes marie schapp's stuff there's

[01:01:03] this one shop in glasgow and edinburgh where you can get american hot sauce um and he loves it but

[01:01:08] he's very he does that with me as well like gonna give him gifts i'm like do you like that and he's

[01:01:12] like yeah it was great it's belizean by the way i don't think it's american it's belizean yeah but

[01:01:16] for some reason they get belizean and mexican hot sauces in the american shop i don't know why

[01:01:22] it's weird it's like all north american stuff and then yeah but it's the only place you can get it here

[01:01:27] we've had the green one the red one and we've got one at the moment that's yellow um and it's great

[01:01:34] but it was to raise money for a domestic violence charity which we didn't realize until

[01:01:38] we looked at the bottle and it just says like hot sauce real man no hit woman i'm like okay

[01:01:45] so it's like ethical hot sauce which i guess is cool yeah i'm like that'll that'll do it

[01:01:49] very good though get a chance to try it obvious threat to untold numbers of citizens

[01:01:55] the people he kills get up and tip are they slow moving chief yeah they're dead they're all messed up

[01:02:01] this is a walking dead cast news update all right new york comic-con is happening now as we record

[01:02:10] this oh is it sunday yeah okay that a dead city and daryl show panels on friday there was a teaser

[01:02:18] trailer just like 30 seconds for dead city i'll put a link in the show notes i i i was watching it

[01:02:25] going if i was still a big negan and maggie fan i'd totally be excited about this because it looked good

[01:02:31] if you're a big negan and maggie fan i'll put a link in the show notes excellent uh there weren't

[01:02:37] there wasn't a lot else that was newsworthy that i could find out about it but one interesting thing

[01:02:41] melissa mcbride said was norman and i don't do a whole lot of rehearsing or talking about scenes

[01:02:48] that we're going to do we just show up as the character knowing where we are in the story and

[01:02:52] letting things happen as we shoot and that's what i love about working with norman you never know what

[01:02:56] you're going to get and it's always so fun and wonderful and surprising it's kind of interesting

[01:03:01] because that's nice i would listen to um i loved better call saul and i would listen to

[01:03:06] ray sehorn and um who's the who plays saul goodman uh all i can see is bob odenkirk yeah bob odenkirk

[01:03:15] uh talk about their process and they would rehearse a lot so just different people do it different ways

[01:03:21] yeah i like that that's interesting one article quoted jeffrey dean morgan responding to complaints

[01:03:28] about negan killing glenn he said everyone dead on this show is doing great in real life by the way

[01:03:34] some of them have won major awards and have been nominated for an oscar

[01:03:39] which i thought was kind of funny don't worry about him don't worry about him he's fine don't worry

[01:03:46] about it and i'm not jealous at all no absolutely not and scott gimple answered a question about

[01:03:53] whether they're working on other walking dead spinoffs or have things in the works he said oh

[01:03:58] yes we're constantly in the lab there's weird things with people that no one's ever seen before

[01:04:02] there's things with characters that we love so i don't know the only thing we know for sure that's

[01:04:07] planned is more dead city and more daryl show but it seems like he's trying to get other things going

[01:04:14] interesting interesting i was listening to was it your feedback episode or the main episode last

[01:04:19] week we were talking about um michael cudlets saying that he was approached or they were being

[01:04:26] mooted about tales of the walking dead having a abraham flashback and i just thought that's cool i

[01:04:33] wonder if tales will ever come back probably not probably not i think all that talk happens back when

[01:04:39] it was a thing yeah i don't i i feel they were supposed to do a follow-on to it that was called

[01:04:46] more tales from the walking dead universe and it was just shorts you know maybe even like a web series

[01:04:51] but that that's been like over a year since we've heard anything about it so i have a feeling they

[01:04:56] just dropped the whole concept it would have been cool definitely all right that is our show episode 606

[01:05:08] thanks thanks for commiserating with us everyone uh if you loved the episode we're sorry but we would

[01:05:15] love for you to write in and tell us why i'm curious yeah i really would genuinely be interested in that

[01:05:21] yeah uh so the next episode will be listener feedback for this one la paradis pour toi

[01:05:28] if you want to write in or leave us a voice message about it or why we're wrong

[01:05:32] you can find all our contact information at podcastica.com yeah and while you're there uh one

[01:05:38] thing i i think i mentioned this a few times but i listened to penny and jim talking about agatha all

[01:05:45] along on the marvel tv cast and they're really passionate about it and i was liking the show

[01:05:50] pretty well but when i listened to them they added a lot and made me like it even more which is i always

[01:05:55] love you know that's what we mostly try to do with our podcast not so much with this episode but uh

[01:06:00] no i'm like i feel bad but no no no it's okay it's fun hopefully people at least had fun with it but

[01:06:06] uh anyway check out marvel tv cast if you're watching that show excellent this episode's made

[01:06:12] possible by patreon supporters like lawrence ryan alter who pledged their support at patreon.com

[01:06:17] slash jason cabassi so thank you to lawrence uh occasionally i just like to mention little perks

[01:06:24] and things and we occasionally pretty rarely these days but we have uh game nights and we had a jackbox

[01:06:31] game session last night with about 10 of us that was a lot of fun oh that's so fun yay i'm glad to

[01:06:39] hear that yeah that was cool it reminded me of um the pandemic actually but the good part yeah yeah

[01:06:45] all right that is our show thanks for listening don't get bit melissa dickinson what what what what

[01:06:54] what
