The great thing about a dip in quality is we get to commiserate and complain together! :) We’re feeling at least somewhat optimistic things will improve over the next couple episodes. Fingers crossed…

[00:00:00] Hmm? Ah!
[00:00:03] Hmm.
[00:00:04] Podcast to go!
[00:00:38] Zed Heads, welcome to the podcast, I'm Jason.
[00:00:40] And I'm Lucy.
[00:00:41] We're going through your feedback for The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 4, La Paradis Pour Toi.
[00:00:48] We got a lot of feedback this week from people who did not agree with you about this episode, Lucy.
[00:00:54] We all loved it, but apparently we don't agree. No, I'm just kidding.
[00:01:01] Actually, we got-
[00:01:02] I love it.
[00:01:02] I think we got, I kind of just scanned it, but-
[00:01:04] Seems like a healthy balance.
[00:01:06] Yeah, yeah.
[00:01:06] Yeah.
[00:01:07] Um, I learned in a review of this episode that the title comes from the song that the older French couple are listening to.
[00:01:15] Mmm.
[00:01:15] It's called La Paradis Pour Toi.
[00:01:17] Right.
[00:01:17] So that's my fact for the week.
[00:01:19] I just thought it probably referred to Isabel dying, but I don't know.
[00:01:24] I don't know.
[00:01:25] Going to paradise.
[00:01:26] Also, I had eggs this morning, but no truffle.
[00:01:29] So-
[00:01:29] That's a shame.
[00:01:30] My update.
[00:01:31] I know, it's crap.
[00:01:33] Uh, I, I was trying to wrap, I think you're going to like this.
[00:01:37] I was trying to wrap my head around why they need to clear the decks of all these characters just to make room for Carol or change plotlines.
[00:01:44] Yeah.
[00:01:45] Yeah.
[00:01:45] And I absolutely think it seems plausible they would kill off Isabel to make room for her, you know, because she's kind of Carol.
[00:01:54] I mean, Daryl's sidekick and now we have Carol there.
[00:01:56] I think that would be a mistake.
[00:01:57] I think they could make good story.
[00:01:59] Oh, yeah.
[00:01:59] Three of them at least for a while.
[00:02:00] But, um, I, I just don't, didn't think it made sense like to write Janae out because you need bad guys.
[00:02:07] Yeah.
[00:02:08] I don't think it makes sense they'd make Lo Sang a bad guy because of Carol.
[00:02:12] I mean, if they needed to get rid of the nest, they could just have Janae get rid of the nest and they're not getting rid of the nest anyway.
[00:02:17] It's still there.
[00:02:18] Um, Lo Sang's in charge there, but I was chatting with Lara and Karen she this morning and Laura mentioned, and I kind of had this in the back of my mind, but I just, just ignored the little voice there, which I do sometimes.
[00:02:29] Anyway, she said that some, how these spinoffs are less expensive than the walking dead because they have smaller casts and less big stars.
[00:02:37] And I'm like, okay, maybe they're writing out the more expensive cast members to cover the cost of bringing in Melissa McBride.
[00:02:43] Yeah.
[00:02:44] Who might've like demanded a lot, like to be convinced to go or something, or even just her normal salary or whatever.
[00:02:50] Maybe Janae actress and Cherrier costs more than Joel de la Fuente who plays Lo Sang and they wrote her out and made him the bad guy or something like that, you know?
[00:03:00] Yeah.
[00:03:01] I was thinking about that.
[00:03:02] I was talking to Karen as well.
[00:03:03] And, um, yeah, thinking about Clermont's posy who's a film actress and has headed up lots of TV shows.
[00:03:10] So is Janae, the Janae actress too.
[00:03:12] Yeah.
[00:03:13] So it's plausible.
[00:03:14] And, and if that's true, then it gives me sort of the same like pit in my stomach when Chandler Riggs got killed off because of contract negotiations.
[00:03:25] We think, um, although that I feel like is worse because walking dead was just a huge cultural juggernaut back then with many times the amount of viewers and ad dollars than it has now, but also a lot more cast members to take care of too.
[00:03:39] But anyway, either way, if that's what happened, which I feel like there's a pretty good chance it is, then it kind of sucks.
[00:03:45] You know, it sucks.
[00:03:47] This whole season is like, let's deal with behind the scenes stuff and try to make the best story that we can.
[00:03:56] You just see a light counter in the corner of cash.
[00:03:59] And every time someone dies, it goes ding, ding, ding.
[00:04:01] Yeah.
[00:04:02] And you just see these executives going, all right, here's who you're going to have to kill off.
[00:04:05] Well, we had this story that I don't want to hear about it.
[00:04:08] Yeah.
[00:04:08] Make it happen.
[00:04:10] Clemence, you're officially too good for this show.
[00:04:12] Yeah.
[00:04:14] You're right.
[00:04:14] I don't know.
[00:04:15] Anyway, let's get into the feedback.
[00:04:22] Figure we'll start with the live Steve since it's kind of a recap to remind us what happened.
[00:04:28] So here we go.
[00:04:30] Hello, the cast of us.
[00:04:31] This is Steve.
[00:04:32] And this is going to be for The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, season two, the book of Carol, episode four.
[00:04:39] I'm not even going to try to say the French because I don't want to sound stupid.
[00:04:42] Well, I don't want to offend anybody.
[00:04:44] Whoa.
[00:04:44] Those are cannons they're bringing in.
[00:04:46] And of course, a Gatling gun.
[00:04:48] And Carol's going to not get killed, right?
[00:04:51] Obviously not.
[00:04:52] Okay.
[00:04:52] So she was able to pull the dart out before probably anything got into her, right?
[00:04:55] At least they didn't make us wait long to see that she survived this whole shooting thing where they're making everybody into zombies.
[00:05:00] Oh, dang.
[00:05:01] Carol just stole the vehicle that has Kudron and she's going to lead.
[00:05:04] Now she's going to lead the zombies to the fortress, right?
[00:05:06] The nest.
[00:05:07] Yeah.
[00:05:07] Right to Daryl.
[00:05:09] Okay.
[00:05:09] I had to pause it because that was intense.
[00:05:11] But now we're back to Isabel and she does have the drain thing in her hand.
[00:05:16] Oh, and Lohang just killed Isabel or stabbed her at least.
[00:05:20] So Carol is at the nest with Janae and her army.
[00:05:23] And Daryl though is still in prison by Janae, right?
[00:05:27] And of course Carol to the rescue of Isabel.
[00:05:30] But of course she doesn't have any clue who Isabel is, right?
[00:05:32] No, I'm confused.
[00:05:33] Daryl was being held by Lohang, right?
[00:05:35] Yes.
[00:05:35] He was there in the nest as well.
[00:05:37] So, okay, they're all in the same place.
[00:05:38] Oh, and now we've got badass Daryl again.
[00:05:40] But who was that that unlocked Daryl?
[00:05:43] Oh, Carol and Daryl at the reunion.
[00:05:45] Some dude.
[00:05:46] I had to pause it and I know I might go long because I'm going to stick on this point.
[00:05:51] But who saved Daryl and what happened to that person?
[00:05:54] Because all we see is we see this kid.
[00:05:55] Just eye candy.
[00:05:56] Just eye candy for me.
[00:05:58] Older LeBron.
[00:05:58] I don't know.
[00:06:00] He's got the keys.
[00:06:01] And the next thing we know, Daryl shakes the chains and he's out killing bad guys.
[00:06:07] Yeah.
[00:06:07] Carol, you told Janae your whole story in like a few sentences.
[00:06:10] And now you're just going to tell Daryl, oh, that's a long story.
[00:06:13] Greenland.
[00:06:14] Daryl and Carol speaking for the audience.
[00:06:16] You, me, here.
[00:06:17] It's crazy.
[00:06:18] It's stupid.
[00:06:19] No, it's crazy.
[00:06:20] Wait.
[00:06:20] So she wasn't talking about Rick when she said somebody came back?
[00:06:23] She was talking about a feeling?
[00:06:25] Yes, she was.
[00:06:25] Come on.
[00:06:25] So this older couple, they had flu and the title is the song that's playing on the record.
[00:06:35] So kind of a mic drop, kind of a record drop.
[00:06:38] And they think that Carol is Isabel.
[00:06:41] Like, wouldn't Isabel be French?
[00:06:43] Oh, Carol brought a gift from Judith to Daryl.
[00:06:46] Oh, the old man turned them in and now they're facing down the barrel of a shotgun.
[00:06:51] Why is Daryl grabbing a pipe?
[00:06:53] Doesn't he still have his knives?
[00:06:53] Oh, just shot Janae with one of those darts.
[00:06:56] I guess now we're going to find out what happens when a living person gets hit with one of those.
[00:06:59] Gross.
[00:07:00] Okay, so what?
[00:07:01] Janae is dead.
[00:07:01] So now Losang is just going to lead this army.
[00:07:04] Okay, two episodes left.
[00:07:07] I love that.
[00:07:08] I guess we're going to find out.
[00:07:09] Gross!
[00:07:11] We found out.
[00:07:12] Don't...
[00:07:13] We didn't really touch on this too much, but isn't it kind of weird that they had this
[00:07:17] whole thing where Falou and Laurent met with this older couple and then went on their way
[00:07:22] and we didn't see any of it?
[00:07:24] Yeah.
[00:07:24] Like, we didn't see Laurent at all.
[00:07:26] Maybe Laurent's expensive per episode.
[00:07:28] Yeah, right.
[00:07:31] He raised his fee.
[00:07:33] Yeah.
[00:07:34] I know I was a bit like, oh, I guess we're just not seeing them this episode.
[00:07:39] Okay.
[00:07:40] It's weird.
[00:07:40] It was weird.
[00:07:40] Like, can we get a couple of cheap actors to talk about where Laurent went?
[00:07:44] Yeah.
[00:07:45] We will describe it in great detail.
[00:07:48] Anybody want to work for free?
[00:07:49] Yeah.
[00:07:50] Sposure.
[00:07:51] Stuart.
[00:07:52] Who's Stuart?
[00:07:53] Steve, thank you so much for calling in.
[00:07:55] Um, well, I've got Jeff Holtorf who says, this show keeps getting better and better.
[00:07:59] I really am enjoying a smaller, more focused cast.
[00:08:02] Everyone is doing a great job.
[00:08:05] Jeff, read the room.
[00:08:07] No, I'm just kidding.
[00:08:10] No, I would not want to.
[00:08:12] I like, I feel kind of feel bad.
[00:08:14] Like this is the reason why we stopped covering, um, Fear the Walking Dead on the podcast and
[00:08:19] we turned it into Patreon exclusive round table rants where we just have no holds barred.
[00:08:24] And I hope we aren't, I hope this show does, um, improve for us so that it doesn't become
[00:08:31] that.
[00:08:32] It's a louder bum week.
[00:08:34] Yeah.
[00:08:34] Like I'm not viewing it as like having jumped the shark fully.
[00:08:37] I'm viewing it as like.
[00:08:37] And there is good stuff too.
[00:08:39] Uh huh.
[00:08:39] A lot of good stuff.
[00:08:40] Like I'm viewing it as this was not a good week, but it's not irredeemable.
[00:08:44] Right.
[00:08:44] And it's all subjective too.
[00:08:46] So there's people like Jeff who are into it.
[00:08:49] Like, I do feel bad.
[00:08:50] Like, I'm sorry if we're trashing on something that you love.
[00:08:53] It's just like, God, we got to give our opinions.
[00:08:55] But if it turns into something that we just don't like consistently, then maybe we will
[00:09:00] stop covering and just go back to doing rants on Patreon or something.
[00:09:04] I mean, I don't like putting this kind of thing out there consistently negativity, you
[00:09:08] know?
[00:09:09] So hopefully it's just a dip.
[00:09:10] Yeah.
[00:09:11] It's just a dip.
[00:09:12] And we're allowed to call it out when it's a dip.
[00:09:14] Yes, absolutely.
[00:09:15] I'm not going to pretend to think something that I don't think that's no good for anyone.
[00:09:19] Okay.
[00:09:19] Monica McGuire says, Oh, good God.
[00:09:21] Carol's feelings.
[00:09:24] I knew this was the book of Carol, but please, this episode was a bit like watching fear,
[00:09:29] but not that bad.
[00:09:30] Okay.
[00:09:30] I'll reset myself and not expect it to be as good as season one.
[00:09:34] It was not as bad as fear.
[00:09:36] I totally agree with that.
[00:09:38] I mean, fear had some good episodes in there, but how it was so consistently ridiculous at
[00:09:45] the end there, this show, in my opinion, doesn't really approach that.
[00:09:50] Yeah.
[00:09:51] I hear you.
[00:09:54] I've got Teresa Harper, who says, I loved it.
[00:09:59] I was disappointed with Isabelle's death and Carol's.
[00:10:02] It was not a person, but a feeling that came back.
[00:10:04] But other than that, I thought it was good.
[00:10:05] I laughed.
[00:10:06] I cried and was scared.
[00:10:07] So in my humble opinion, that makes for a great show.
[00:10:10] Thanks guys for your hard work.
[00:10:11] It is much appreciated.
[00:10:13] Thank you for writing in Teresa.
[00:10:14] And I'm glad that you got some laughs and some heartfelt moments in there.
[00:10:18] And so did I, I laughed at the moment with Carol and Daryl and trying to get the car working
[00:10:24] and I got moved by their reunion and everything.
[00:10:28] So you're right.
[00:10:29] There were moments in there, you know, there were moments.
[00:10:32] Andy Fisher says, dear J. Lou.
[00:10:35] Oh, that's our couple name.
[00:10:36] That's so cute.
[00:10:37] That's amazing.
[00:10:38] Daryl and Carol together made this episode really special to me.
[00:10:42] I've been wondering why I didn't like the show before this episode and the ones who live
[00:10:45] Rick and Michonne re-meet in the first episode.
[00:10:48] Six episodes, not enough.
[00:10:50] I think things are really going to start cooking now.
[00:10:52] France, you in trouble.
[00:10:54] Five pizzas, but no ring this week.
[00:10:56] Maybe that's because Daryl and Carol aren't a couple.
[00:10:59] It's platonic.
[00:11:00] Yeah.
[00:11:01] All right.
[00:11:02] Here's Johnny from Texas.
[00:11:04] What's up, Jason and Lucy?
[00:11:07] Yep.
[00:11:07] This is Johnny from Texas.
[00:11:09] Although I did enjoy this episode, I'm calling in to say that it was wrong.
[00:11:13] The way they killed Isabel.
[00:11:15] I think she could have had a much more honorable death.
[00:11:18] And I absolutely, positively, entirely hated the way Carol actually stated that nobody
[00:11:26] came back.
[00:11:26] It was just a quote feeling.
[00:11:29] I hope all this leads to a good finale because I feel like if Daryl were to hear Rick came
[00:11:33] back, if he would have heard Rick came back, he would have immediately wanted to get Laurent
[00:11:38] and get the hell back to the US.
[00:11:41] Yeah.
[00:11:41] This is insane, man.
[00:11:43] I hope they're setting up something good for the finale.
[00:11:46] And to think that they're already filming season three, it's like, man, how much story exactly do they plan to tell?
[00:11:53] I sure hope there's an end game to this.
[00:11:57] I hope y'all enjoy the rest of y'all's week.
[00:11:59] And can't wait for episode five.
[00:12:02] Yeah.
[00:12:02] Yeah.
[00:12:04] Ooh.
[00:12:06] I need to get that checked out.
[00:12:08] I like that.
[00:12:10] That was cool.
[00:12:11] Thank you, Johnny.
[00:12:12] I like the kids screaming in the background as well.
[00:12:14] Added to the sense that he was turning.
[00:12:16] I mean, yeah, no.
[00:12:19] I think Daryl does want to get Laurent and go back to the US anyway.
[00:12:23] You know, he was saying that he would go back to the US if Rick was there, but that still is the plan.
[00:12:30] Maybe he would not stick around for truffles and eggs if he knew Rick was there.
[00:12:34] He'd be in a little bit more of a hurry.
[00:12:35] I don't know.
[00:12:36] You never know.
[00:12:38] Thanks so much, Johnny.
[00:12:38] Penny.
[00:12:39] Penny Lennox says, I'm really tired of people 10 or 15 years into the zombie apocalypse saying to someone else something to the effect of a horrible thing happened to me.
[00:12:47] You can't possibly understand loss like that.
[00:12:50] Everyone in the zombie apocalypse has witnessed or experienced horrible things.
[00:12:54] Every single person.
[00:12:56] Stop pretending that you have some unique suffering that allows you to be in this case a Nazi.
[00:13:01] Well put, Penny.
[00:13:02] Well put.
[00:13:02] Yeah.
[00:13:03] I was kind of thinking about that too.
[00:13:05] That's what, um, I think, who said it?
[00:13:08] Janae said it to Carol.
[00:13:10] I think, have you ever experienced a loss like this?
[00:13:12] No, I've been fine.
[00:13:13] Yeah, I've been great actually.
[00:13:14] I love Barnes.
[00:13:18] Kim Underwood Lyons, who I think she co-hosts the Brains Gone Bad podcast.
[00:13:23] Are they still doing that?
[00:13:24] I'm not sure.
[00:13:25] Um, but when they were, it was great.
[00:13:27] Uh, she says, I've never been so happy for a villain's gory death.
[00:13:31] I wonder if Laura really will have zombie bite immunity.
[00:13:35] They didn't reference his unusual condition of birth for no reason.
[00:13:39] Or could he become the first sentient zombie?
[00:13:43] Maybe he already is.
[00:13:44] No, I'm just kidding.
[00:13:45] It seems though the show has run out of ideas to keep Laura interesting.
[00:13:49] It could explain why he's been off screen so much this season.
[00:13:52] He just demands too high of a paycheck.
[00:13:55] I think so.
[00:13:56] He's very, he's essentially, you know, a version of Timothee Chalamet.
[00:14:01] So he's probably got a lot of it, a lot of business out there.
[00:14:04] Um, next up we have Laura Willie Swink.
[00:14:08] Just listening now to the podcast and thought I'd mentioned Jason that I don't think Isabel
[00:14:12] was being sacrilegious by saying Jesus was a man who could bleed and die.
[00:14:15] From a Christian point of view, Jesus was a mortal man put on earth to suffer and die like all humans do.
[00:14:20] Maybe if she said she did not believe in the resurrection, it would indicate she's lost her faith.
[00:14:25] But I think her point was all these prophets and messiahs were exceptional humans, but can still bleed and die as can Laurent.
[00:14:32] That is a very good theological point, Laura.
[00:14:35] I would go for that except if you're saying, oh no, Laurent's not special.
[00:14:39] He's just like Jesus who died and then was resurrected and now is living forever.
[00:14:44] I'm not sure it's a great argument.
[00:14:46] I mean, she was like in a pretty bad way at the point where she was saying this, you know?
[00:14:52] Yeah, right.
[00:14:53] Give her a little idly way.
[00:14:54] Uh, here's Archmaester Renny.
[00:14:57] Renny!
[00:14:58] Lucy and Jason.
[00:14:59] What?
[00:15:00] What?
[00:15:00] What?
[00:15:02] I just want to tell you both.
[00:15:03] I totally agree with you about the direction that this season is going, unfortunately.
[00:15:08] But I wanted to call in to say something that will make Jason happy.
[00:15:12] And that is that I went by the drop in ballot box this morning to leave my ballot.
[00:15:18] And there was a car ahead of me dropping off a ballot.
[00:15:22] And there was a car that pulled up right behind me dropping up a ballot.
[00:15:25] So people are voting.
[00:15:27] Yay.
[00:15:28] Yeah.
[00:15:28] Yeah.
[00:15:29] There's, I think, record early voting right now.
[00:15:33] I really wish I could vote at this point, but I'm just so proud of all of you that are
[00:15:38] voting in and saying that you have.
[00:15:40] It makes such a difference.
[00:15:41] Yeah.
[00:15:41] It's great.
[00:15:43] Especially women.
[00:15:43] You have to fight for the right to vote, man.
[00:15:45] So use it.
[00:15:46] Use it or lose it.
[00:15:48] That's what I say.
[00:15:49] Okay.
[00:15:49] Nathan Eshelman says, this feels a little bit like Morgan coming into season four of fear.
[00:15:56] Hmm.
[00:15:57] The show's original characters that we've grown to become invested in are now sacrificial cows.
[00:16:02] So AMC can tell stories with it safe, pre-established best friend duo.
[00:16:07] Isabelle's final scene.
[00:16:08] Didn't have any space to breathe.
[00:16:10] It was hard for me to get invested in the sadness of the moment because it was surrounded by action sequences and the Daryl and Carol reunion hug.
[00:16:17] Nothing against Carol, but I did prefer the show as a Daryl fish out of water story.
[00:16:23] Yeah.
[00:16:24] I mean, the reason why this almost makes me feel more upset than what happened on fear maybe is because fear had new showrunners that came in in season four and they wanted to put their own stamp on it, create their own characters.
[00:16:40] And they didn't really understand the existing characters and ended up killing a lot of them off.
[00:16:45] Here we have the same writers who had a good story going, like keep it going, man.
[00:16:51] You know?
[00:16:52] Yep.
[00:16:53] Yep.
[00:16:53] Yep.
[00:16:54] Yep.
[00:16:56] Nathan.
[00:16:57] Um, Chantelle Gillies says, Hey, Jason and Lucy, this episode was so emotional.
[00:17:02] Isabel's death was awful, but not a shock.
[00:17:04] It seems Carol's past is most definitely catching up with her and it's heartbreaking to see her this way.
[00:17:09] I cried when Daryl saw Carol.
[00:17:11] This to me was their best reunion yet.
[00:17:13] Both their tears and emotions felt real.
[00:17:16] My biggest shock and total letdown was when Daryl asked Carol, so you said someone was back, but not the answer we were waiting for.
[00:17:23] My only hope is that we eventually get the ultimate reunion where they get back home.
[00:17:27] Carol, Daryl, Rick and Michonne, and of course our Judith.
[00:17:30] I wish they made the series a little longer, but it is what it is.
[00:17:33] RIP Jeanne.
[00:17:35] Yeah.
[00:17:37] It is what it is.
[00:17:38] It is what it is.
[00:17:40] It is what it is.
[00:17:41] It might just be something we didn't realize it was.
[00:17:44] Uh, Natalie Collins says, I would totally watch a Carol and Codrone show.
[00:17:48] She's got a few bullet points here.
[00:17:50] Those amped up Zeds are scary.
[00:17:53] Lo sang WTF.
[00:17:55] That's not how I imagined those two meeting.
[00:17:58] I presume she means Daryl Carol.
[00:17:59] Daryl lifting his chained arm without saying a word.
[00:18:02] Love it.
[00:18:04] It was a pretty cool scene.
[00:18:05] The reunion.
[00:18:06] Oh, bollocks.
[00:18:07] I presume that means Isabel.
[00:18:09] The conversation about them being in France is delightful.
[00:18:12] Hmm.
[00:18:12] Is Carol lying to Daryl about who came back?
[00:18:15] No, I don't think so.
[00:18:17] We wish.
[00:18:19] Uh, yeah.
[00:18:19] The Zed strung up along the road is visually stunning.
[00:18:23] Can this old dude be trusted?
[00:18:25] No, I can't tell.
[00:18:26] She's lovely though.
[00:18:28] Interesting town tour.
[00:18:30] Maybe you're too much.
[00:18:31] Ha ha ha.
[00:18:33] Damn.
[00:18:33] That's what I have to say about everything from the eggs on.
[00:18:36] Oh, that's after at the end.
[00:18:38] But then she, uh, watch, listen to our podcast.
[00:18:40] P.S.
[00:18:40] Now that the TV episode and the podcast episode are out, this season annoys me.
[00:18:44] The first season was so good.
[00:18:45] I feel like adding Carol was a mistake.
[00:18:47] I would still watch a Carol Codrone show, but not sure how much more of this I will put up with.
[00:18:51] And I love Daryl.
[00:18:54] Oh, see that's what.
[00:18:56] Carol and Codrone would be quite funny actually, to be fair.
[00:18:58] Yeah.
[00:18:59] I, I resist.
[00:19:01] I, what am I feeling here?
[00:19:04] I just, I feel bad that this negative energy about the show would be directed at either the character of Carol or especially Melissa McBride.
[00:19:14] Um, which I don't, maybe it's not being directed at Melissa McBride at all.
[00:19:18] No, I don't think that's what.
[00:19:19] But I think they could have brought Carol in, in a way that was totally awesome.
[00:19:25] And honestly, right now, Carol's my favorite part of this show.
[00:19:29] Like every scene she's in, I am loving.
[00:19:32] I mean, the only thing I'm a little critical of is this whole PTSD thing around, um, Sophia seems like a weird time for it to come up, but I could accept that.
[00:19:42] But the other stuff, like all the stuff with Ash and her interactions with Daryl and, um, even the Greenland stuff.
[00:19:50] I liked all of that.
[00:19:52] Yeah.
[00:19:52] Yeah.
[00:19:53] Yeah.
[00:19:53] There's just some things not, not coming together.
[00:19:56] I feel like, but we'll see how the next two go.
[00:19:59] Mm hmm.
[00:20:00] Also, one of the listeners, I won't say who in case they don't want me to say, but you know, there, these episodes leaked.
[00:20:08] Did you know that?
[00:20:09] No.
[00:20:10] So people got ahold of them.
[00:20:11] Oh.
[00:20:12] So I, one of the listeners who I think saw them all said, just didn't want to spoil me, but was like these final two episodes and then like a sad emoji or something.
[00:20:22] So I don't know.
[00:20:25] Okay.
[00:20:26] It's all subjective, but I'm not holding my breath for anything great here.
[00:20:30] Okay.
[00:20:30] Let's see.
[00:20:31] Let's see.
[00:20:31] We'll see.
[00:20:32] We'll see.
[00:20:32] All right.
[00:20:33] Here's another call from Gloria.
[00:20:35] Bonjour, Jason and Lucy.
[00:20:37] It's Gloria from Salem.
[00:20:38] Bonjour.
[00:20:39] So this is for episode four of the Carol and Daryl show.
[00:20:43] It seemed like the first half of it was all about suspension and disbelief.
[00:20:49] I mean, I can understand Carol playing dead, but then getting shot with that dot that was full of God knows what.
[00:20:56] I mean, I know she was wearing leather, but come on.
[00:20:59] Then she runs to the Jeep with a bunch of people with guns staring at her and no one shoots her.
[00:21:03] I mean, what are you doing guys?
[00:21:06] Oh, and then of course, no one hits a card on either.
[00:21:09] I had a feeling that Isabel would die in this episode.
[00:21:14] I'm sure we all did.
[00:21:15] It was sad, but I wasn't as affected as I probably thought it should have been.
[00:21:21] Yeah, whatever.
[00:21:22] She's she's a great actress, but I did not want her and Daryl together for sure.
[00:21:28] My favorite scene was the reunion, of course.
[00:21:31] Yes.
[00:21:31] Tears.
[00:21:32] And that scene between Carol and Dee Dee really sweet.
[00:21:36] And then again, them with the bond.
[00:21:38] True.
[00:21:38] Oh my God.
[00:21:39] PTSD makes another appearance.
[00:21:42] I really hoped at that point that Daryl and Carol would leave them still alive.
[00:21:47] But you know, and when they were working on the car.
[00:21:51] Oh my God.
[00:21:51] They were bickering like an old married couple.
[00:21:53] Of course they were.
[00:21:54] It's pretty funny.
[00:21:56] And my second favorite scene.
[00:21:58] Dee Dee.
[00:21:59] God, I loved her so much.
[00:22:01] Comparing Jeanne to the Nazis.
[00:22:03] Perfect.
[00:22:04] That was hilarious.
[00:22:07] Oh my God.
[00:22:09] Total justice is what Jeanne got.
[00:22:12] That's how karma works, you know?
[00:22:14] So this was a great episode.
[00:22:16] I am looking forward to next week.
[00:22:19] I really hope that they find Laurent soon.
[00:22:23] And it's the fourth episode and they finally reunite.
[00:22:27] Great.
[00:22:28] But I think it was a little too much, a little too long for us.
[00:22:32] So this is only six episodes.
[00:22:35] Okay.
[00:22:36] That's it for me.
[00:22:37] Au revoir.
[00:22:38] Au revoir.
[00:22:40] Au revoir.
[00:22:44] Bye.
[00:22:44] Thanks, Gloria.
[00:22:45] Thanks, Gloria.
[00:22:45] I think it was a pretty good middle ground to have them reunite mid-season.
[00:22:49] Yeah.
[00:22:49] So it didn't take too long, but didn't make it so that she just flew to France and saw Daryl
[00:22:54] right away in the first episode, you know?
[00:22:56] Yeah.
[00:22:56] She wasn't there in two seconds.
[00:22:57] Yeah.
[00:22:59] Yeah.
[00:22:59] Um, our friend Wyman Owens written in, he says, well, I think the Carol and Daryl reunification
[00:23:04] project was well worth the wait.
[00:23:05] I think it played out very well.
[00:23:07] I may be a grown man, but yes, I welled up with emotion.
[00:23:11] It was a great moment.
[00:23:12] Thoroughly enjoyed.
[00:23:13] Grown men can cry.
[00:23:14] It's fine.
[00:23:14] Yeah, it's absolutely fine.
[00:23:16] Um, now onto the rest of it.
[00:23:18] They did Isabelle dirty.
[00:23:20] Lusang or Wu-Tang, whatever his name is, gets to go all stabby stab.
[00:23:24] Not cool.
[00:23:24] Not cool.
[00:23:25] I feel sad for Daryl.
[00:23:27] He's overcome with emotion that Carol is here in France only to learn five minutes later
[00:23:30] that the girl he made smoochies with is gone.
[00:23:33] Poor guy.
[00:23:34] Yee-haw, Janay is dead, but damn, what a way to go.
[00:23:37] I have those itches in the middle of my back sometimes.
[00:23:39] I can't reach them either.
[00:23:41] Couldn't help but chuckle.
[00:23:43] Look out, Lusang.
[00:23:44] Carol and Daryl versus your messed up army.
[00:23:46] You are going to need more red shirts to make it fair.
[00:23:50] You are about to get lit up by the great war hero of Terminus.
[00:23:53] And if you happen to fight on a field of flowers, you had better say your prayers
[00:23:57] because you're gonna be dead.
[00:23:59] Needless to say, I enjoyed this episode much more than the last two.
[00:24:02] I just hope Ash has room for three more people on his plane.
[00:24:05] Hope y'all enjoyed it as well.
[00:24:07] Talk to you next week.
[00:24:08] Bye!
[00:24:08] I...
[00:24:09] Yeah, the size of the plane seems to be something that Carol and Ash haven't really considered.
[00:24:14] Yeah, I don't know.
[00:24:15] When going to get Sophia and Ed.
[00:24:17] Yeah, yeah.
[00:24:18] There must be room for more people.
[00:24:20] But if it's Daryl, he can just sit on the wing because he's badass.
[00:24:24] Oh yeah, he'd just be like hanging from the bottom like, yeah.
[00:24:28] But there must be more.
[00:24:29] There must be room at least for one more person.
[00:24:33] Or yeah, I guess you're right.
[00:24:35] Ash would have presumed that Carol would want to take her husband as well.
[00:24:40] So yeah, two more people.
[00:24:41] I mean, he'd really hope so, you know?
[00:24:43] Her husband, Ed, who looks just like Norman Reedus.
[00:24:46] Yeah.
[00:24:48] I did love that suggestion from a listener that should be like, oh, Ed!
[00:24:52] Right.
[00:24:52] Like, yeah.
[00:24:52] So when he brings Daryl and Laurent back, he's just gonna have to have Laurent speak in a higher voice.
[00:25:00] Yeah.
[00:25:02] Hello!
[00:25:03] Oh, je m'appelle Sophia!
[00:25:05] Je m'appelle Sophia!
[00:25:06] Like, alright, cool.
[00:25:09] Becky Anderson says, sigh, I really didn't like this episode.
[00:25:13] Even suspension of disbelief couldn't save the majority of this episode.
[00:25:17] So much that was too convenient, and even more that didn't make sense.
[00:25:20] The actors mostly did their part, but the story writing was terrible.
[00:25:24] I'm sad Issa is gone.
[00:25:26] How she went down was terrible and made no sense.
[00:25:29] She deserved so much better.
[00:25:31] Was it just me or did Daryl not really seem too upset about her death in the moment?
[00:25:35] No, it's not just you.
[00:25:36] Lucy definitely felt that.
[00:25:37] I really felt that, yeah.
[00:25:38] I was so excited for Carol, K-A-R-Y-L, to reunite, but sadly it fell flat for me.
[00:25:44] And then Carol tells him it was, quote, just a feeling that came back.
[00:25:48] What?
[00:25:49] Yeah.
[00:25:50] It's almost like you could be writing this, Lucy.
[00:25:51] Uh, there were some sweet moments between the two, but for the most part it wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
[00:25:58] The only surprise in this episode was Jhene's face exploding.
[00:26:01] I wasn't expecting her to go so early this season, but her end was satisfying.
[00:26:06] The whole Lo-Sang story makes no sense and is stupid.
[00:26:09] How does the Lo-Sang we started with end up with the guy who kills Issa and then take over Jhene's army?
[00:26:16] Dumb.
[00:26:17] Dumb.
[00:26:18] This episode ended and all I could think was there's another season of this coming?
[00:26:21] Jesus.
[00:26:23] Wow.
[00:26:24] Knowing what I know now, I would rather them have waited until the end of the season to bring Carol back and maybe next season be them making their way back to America.
[00:26:32] Here's hoping they make this mess of an episode up to us with the remaining episodes, but I'm sadly not too optimistic.
[00:26:39] Me neither.
[00:26:40] Oh, bless you, Becky.
[00:26:42] I hear you.
[00:26:42] Yep.
[00:26:44] All right.
[00:26:44] Here's another call from Carly Jackson.
[00:26:47] Hey, Jason and Lucy.
[00:26:48] This is Carly in Santa Fe.
[00:26:50] I had a few thoughts about this episode of Daryl Dixon.
[00:26:54] The pacing was really off.
[00:26:55] I thought it was very disrespectful to Isabel to have her die in the beginning of an episode.
[00:27:00] They should have given us that time for like a somber ending at the end of an episode or maybe just not killed her off at all.
[00:27:08] I think it's really weird that they killed her off as soon as Carol showed up.
[00:27:12] Like it's impossible to have two women travel with Daryl.
[00:27:15] Yeah.
[00:27:15] I mean, it would have been really interesting to see that dynamic of Carol and Daryl and Isabel all together.
[00:27:21] Um, I liked the French couple.
[00:27:24] Um, I was waiting for them to turn out to be evil, you know, like in the old, uh, episodes of the original show where you're like, who is this new character?
[00:27:33] Is this an evil person or is this a good person?
[00:27:34] And so that was some fun tension, but I, I just really liked them.
[00:27:38] Um, yeah, me too.
[00:27:40] And I'm glad it wasn't that they were like poisoning the truffles or there were cannibals or something, but it was more like they were, he was trying to be practical in a way that was super cowardly, but is sort of what people did in world war two.
[00:27:54] So it made them feel like real people, you know?
[00:27:57] Yeah.
[00:27:57] You all want to think you do the absolute best, but also.
[00:28:02] When your life is on the line.
[00:28:03] Yeah.
[00:28:04] Maybe.
[00:28:04] Yeah.
[00:28:04] Yeah.
[00:28:05] Yeah.
[00:28:07] And I, you know, it was, it's so frustrating.
[00:28:12] I mean, I agree with all of your frustrations with the writing.
[00:28:15] Uh, it was a really amazing setup to have Daryl start to allow himself to have these romantic feelings for Isabel after all these years and to have his protectiveness over Laurent and it's his own development separate from Carol, you know, that we haven't seen in a while.
[00:28:32] And to have two old friends come together and one of them is growing and changing as a person that has so much potential for an interesting story.
[00:28:40] And they just kind of threw it away by killing Isabel.
[00:28:44] Mm-hmm .
[00:28:44] So also, I mean, with Carol, there's potential, there was potential that they didn't capitalize on where, you know, she's, she's finally confronting her grief and trauma over losing Sophia.
[00:28:59] And she's lying to people about it.
[00:29:01] She's hiding it from people, but she can't hide that from Daryl because he knows her.
[00:29:05] He was there.
[00:29:07] And so there's this whole other avenue of story direction that they could show Carol needing to be genuine because she literally can't lie to Daryl because he knows the truth.
[00:29:18] And his very presence makes her confront the past as it really was and not as she would describe it in her, you know, manipulative lies.
[00:29:26] So we lost that potential too, I think.
[00:29:29] I don't know about that.
[00:29:31] I feel like that's where they're going with it.
[00:29:33] Don't you think?
[00:29:33] In what sense?
[00:29:35] Well, they've set this whole thing up where Carol's having to confront her past with Sophia and what happened.
[00:29:41] And she's, as Carly's saying, lying to Ash about it and presenting it as a whole different picture.
[00:29:47] But now that she's with Daryl, she can't do that.
[00:29:50] I feel like that's still an ongoing concern for this season, you know, so we have to see where they go with it.
[00:29:56] Yeah, I think that's something that it's got to come to a head at some point.
[00:30:00] Yeah.
[00:30:00] So yeah, I'm open minded about that.
[00:30:03] I really, really hate that Carol was using Isabelle's name.
[00:30:08] I thought Daryl should have been furious about that.
[00:30:12] It was very weird.
[00:30:13] And this is coming from someone who wanted a romantic relationship between Carol and Daryl for years.
[00:30:18] But I found it weird and I did not like it.
[00:30:23] One gem in the story, the truffle in the mud, as Jason was saying, is when Janae asks Carol if she's ever felt that kind of loss.
[00:30:31] And Carol just kind of laughs.
[00:30:33] I was like, I really just love that reaction.
[00:30:35] That just felt really real.
[00:30:37] So anyway, I hope I'm not too late with this.
[00:30:41] Yeah, I felt all that.
[00:30:43] And that's such a good point.
[00:30:45] I wasn't, I felt again, like a little voice that I didn't listen to about Carol using Isabelle's name because it's like if you really want to hammer the point home that yeah, Carol just came in and shoved Isabelle out and just have her use her name.
[00:31:02] I'm like, yep, I'm totally taking her place.
[00:31:04] Oui!
[00:31:05] Oui, oui!
[00:31:07] Je m'appelle Isabelle.
[00:31:09] I just love that.
[00:31:10] We're like, wouldn't Isabelle be French?
[00:31:11] I'm like, yeah.
[00:31:12] She will be.
[00:31:14] Oh, Carly, thanks for calling in.
[00:31:16] Thank you, Carly.
[00:31:18] Matt King has written in and he says, I was wondering how Jason and Lucy would react to this and those two major deaths.
[00:31:23] Not positively, it seems from the start of the podcast.
[00:31:26] It certainly feels like a different show to season one.
[00:31:29] Like it was rewritten hastily after Melissa agreed to join for season two.
[00:31:33] Perhaps it would have been better to end as a single season.
[00:31:36] However, there are good moments in there.
[00:31:38] The rehabilitation of Codron, seeing Daryl and Carol together again, and the introduction of Ash.
[00:31:43] I think for this season, you just have to lower your expectations.
[00:31:47] A lot.
[00:31:48] And then you can enjoy it for what it is.
[00:31:50] If you think it will be at the same level as season one or peak era Walking Dead, then you will be sorely disappointed.
[00:31:56] If you just go with it and try not to get annoyed with the glaring missteps, it's not bad.
[00:32:00] It certainly isn't anywhere near as bad as fear.
[00:32:03] I had enough of that midway through season two.
[00:32:05] P.S.
[00:32:06] Totally off topic.
[00:32:07] But those who love Lenny James from his days as Morgan, his new show, Mr. Loverman, on the BBC in the UK currently is absolutely fantastic and his performance incredible.
[00:32:16] Episode seven of eight in particular was so emotional.
[00:32:20] Hopefully it will make its way across to the US soon so you can all get to see it.
[00:32:23] Matt, that is my weekend plan is to catch up on Mr. Loverman.
[00:32:27] It's meant to be fun.
[00:32:28] Yeah, I'm excited to hear that it's good.
[00:32:29] I don't know if we can watch it here.
[00:32:31] I have to look into that.
[00:32:33] Sometimes.
[00:32:33] I think they'll release it soon.
[00:32:35] Yeah.
[00:32:35] I can't imagine that though.
[00:32:36] It might be here now.
[00:32:37] I don't know.
[00:32:38] Do they still have that BBC America?
[00:32:39] I think so.
[00:32:40] I don't know.
[00:32:40] Yeah.
[00:32:41] I don't know.
[00:32:42] I don't like when people, nothing personal, Matt, but when people say, oh, just lower your expectations, you know, like turn your brain off and you'll love it.
[00:32:51] I need something inspiring or something to really that lights me up.
[00:32:57] Not like, oh yeah, if I just don't think too hard, then this will be great.
[00:33:02] You know, I hear you.
[00:33:04] But I appreciate you trying to help us like the show more.
[00:33:09] Okay.
[00:33:10] Lara Willie Swink.
[00:33:11] Oh, I guess she had a couple in here.
[00:33:13] I should have put them together.
[00:33:14] Anyways, she says, oh, I can't believe it.
[00:33:16] I knew it was coming, but they did it.
[00:33:18] They fridged Isabel.
[00:33:19] Yeah.
[00:33:21] The fridging, by the way, is a term that came up in the Green Lantern comic book where the Green Lantern's girlfriend got stuffed into a refrigerator by a villain.
[00:33:31] And there was a lot of criticism about women just being used as a way, you know, to have horrible deaths just to see how the male character will react to it, which people find really disrespectful.
[00:33:43] Okay.
[00:33:44] So they fridged Isabel.
[00:33:46] Apparently any female besides Carol that Daryl opens his heart to will get the Gwen Stacy treatment.
[00:33:51] Similar thing that happened with Spider-Man's girlfriend.
[00:33:54] I really feel like the deaths so far this season, Emil, Sylvie and now Isabel are so completely hollow and unnecessary.
[00:34:00] Why did Losang take Isabel to a separate room to give her a strong talking to, to re indoctrinate her?
[00:34:06] It seemed to make no sense.
[00:34:08] It's I don't understand why they let Isabel hang out with Daryl for a little while and then came and grabbed her again.
[00:34:13] That's what I, what I, it's just like, Oh, so she can have a conversation with Daryl.
[00:34:19] Ah, plus either Losang is simply amazing at covering up his devious murderous side that we had no hint of it in season one, or we just saw the biggest 180 ever in series from pacifist to killer in 0.2 seconds.
[00:34:31] I love the sweet couple of Theo.
[00:34:34] Oh, I guess the name is Theo and DD who have somehow lived to a ripe old age and near pastoral peace with their zombie neighbors.
[00:34:40] Of course, until Daryl and Carol show up, then he turns into a dick and she of course dies.
[00:34:46] The death of Janay, however, was a real surprise for me and also gruesome.
[00:34:50] Well, I'm still here for gorgeous shots of Mont Saint-Michel at night in the moonlight or picturesque Norman villages and also here for Daryl and his Trey Chic suspenders clubbing walkers with a mace.
[00:35:02] I think it's a flail, but yeah.
[00:35:04] Uh, but Le Sigh, I'm just not feeling it as much this season.
[00:35:08] Oh, Laura.
[00:35:09] Yeah.
[00:35:09] From pacifist to killer in 0.2 seconds is the name of, um, Morgan's motivational video series.
[00:35:15] Right.
[00:35:16] I don't know if you've seen them.
[00:35:17] They're great.
[00:35:17] Yeah.
[00:35:18] And then the sequel and back again.
[00:35:20] Yeah.
[00:35:23] A Morgan's tale.
[00:35:26] Um, Billy Thompson says, hello, hello.
[00:35:28] Hope you guys are doing well.
[00:35:29] I am Billy.
[00:35:30] Thank you very much.
[00:35:31] Um, first off the amount I had to spend my disbelief in the opening wasn't great.
[00:35:35] I wish the escape from Janay was a bit more badass or clever.
[00:35:39] Just looking out on not getting shot and making a run for it seems a bit underwhelming.
[00:35:42] The mortar was perfectly hitting the entrance of the nest too.
[00:35:45] And Carol just bobbing and weaving her way through the bullets like a prime Mike Tyson
[00:35:49] was very questionable.
[00:35:51] Really wasn't expecting Isabelle and Janay to meet their ends already.
[00:35:54] It's a bit of a bummer.
[00:35:55] It does feel rushed over these last two episodes.
[00:35:57] And I think if there was maybe three quarters more episodes, oh no, three or four more episodes.
[00:36:02] Sorry, Billy.
[00:36:04] Um, the pacing would be a lot better and the story beats could be a lot more fleshed out
[00:36:08] and believable.
[00:36:10] I did enjoy a few things this episode though.
[00:36:13] The scene of them finally meeting.
[00:36:15] Both Melissa and Norman crushed it.
[00:36:16] Daryl looked like a lost child finding his mum again.
[00:36:19] Aw, Billy, your description of it has moved me more than the scene itself.
[00:36:23] Um, also when they're both admiring their surroundings for a moment and realising just
[00:36:27] how crazy and stupid their situation therein is.
[00:36:31] Janay's death scene was brilliant.
[00:36:32] All the veins and twitching was really cool to see.
[00:36:34] You guys have to watch the episode inside here to see how Nicotero filmed it.
[00:36:38] It's so gruesome.
[00:36:39] Oh, I actually will.
[00:36:40] Yeah.
[00:36:40] Oh, how could I forget Codron strung up on the car like a French Mad Max was awesome.
[00:36:45] Unfortunately, I can't see the pacing being any better for the last two episodes after
[00:36:49] watching the preview, but let's hope for a strong ending to the season.
[00:36:53] Thanks guys.
[00:36:54] Bye.
[00:36:55] Bye.
[00:36:56] Bye Billy.
[00:36:57] Bye.
[00:36:57] Let's hope.
[00:36:59] Fingers crossed.
[00:37:00] Josie Bowenectal said, I love the way Daryl's grief played out this episode.
[00:37:05] It felt true to his character.
[00:37:07] We could see that love for Isabel and Laurent and it made my heart happy that Carol could
[00:37:12] see and identify it within Daryl so quickly.
[00:37:15] Yeah, he did.
[00:37:16] I mean, to me, it was more like she saw it, but I saw it a little bit and Lucy saw it not
[00:37:26] at all.
[00:37:27] I saw it.
[00:37:28] Carol saw it a lot.
[00:37:29] Jesus saw it a little and Lucy saw it not at all.
[00:37:33] So to Lucy, it was more like Daryl was wearing like a blue jacket and Carol was like, that's
[00:37:37] a nice red jacket you have on seeing something that totally wasn't there.
[00:37:42] Anyway, Josie goes on.
[00:37:43] There were a lot of things that I had to ignore in order to properly appreciate the
[00:37:46] episode, but I tried to be more open because last week's episode bummed me out so bad.
[00:37:50] I didn't even write in.
[00:37:52] Yeah, I didn't like that one either.
[00:37:53] Love the coverage on it, but the episode was lackluster for me.
[00:37:56] Anyways, I loved getting the reunion.
[00:37:58] Finally, this episode had all my favorite Daryl and Carol things, the snarky quips,
[00:38:03] the unwavering support, the clear love, and of course the sheer badassery.
[00:38:08] The poetic justice of Janay's death was great and gory.
[00:38:12] Sweet DD.
[00:38:13] I was just waiting for those two to show their villainy, but was glad to see it was only
[00:38:17] one of them at least.
[00:38:17] They were adorable and their little village of old folk walkers was fascinating.
[00:38:23] I don't want to stand up for Theo, her boyfriend, too much, but at least when she found out what
[00:38:32] he was doing and just was like, you fucker, then he was like, okay, okay, I'll help you.
[00:38:37] Yeah.
[00:38:39] What was it?
[00:38:40] She called him old fool and he was like, oh shit, I fucked up.
[00:38:42] Yeah.
[00:38:43] All right, right.
[00:38:43] Sorry, sorry.
[00:38:44] Sorry.
[00:38:45] Sorry.
[00:38:45] Um, so sweet, they were adorable.
[00:38:49] If any of you don't see behind the scenes bits after the show via AMC plus I highly recommend
[00:38:54] Greg Nicotero has some great zombie things to share with us this week.
[00:38:57] I got to watch that.
[00:38:58] I hate that there are so few episodes left.
[00:39:00] This whole six episode thing is bullshit and it really does have such an effect on
[00:39:05] the storytelling and depth of characters.
[00:39:07] I did enjoy how much they talked about the Commonwealth and Judith.
[00:39:11] Yeah, me too.
[00:39:12] I guess I'm eager to see what happens next.
[00:39:14] Can't wait to hear y'all's thoughts on my commute tomorrow.
[00:39:16] This podcast is seriously the highlight of my work week.
[00:39:18] Getting feedback episodes and an initial episode in one week feels like Christmas.
[00:39:22] Thanks for all you do.
[00:39:23] Well, thanks for saying that Josie and hope you still feel the same way after you heard
[00:39:26] the episode.
[00:39:27] Thanks Josie.
[00:39:29] Really nice.
[00:39:30] All right.
[00:39:31] Here is a call from Dodie.
[00:39:32] Oh, Dodie.
[00:39:33] Yay.
[00:39:34] Hi Jason and Lucy.
[00:39:35] This is Dodie from Wells, Maine.
[00:39:37] I just finished listening to your podcast.
[00:39:40] Now, usually I've experienced listening to a podcast and loving an episode more after
[00:39:45] I hear what you have to say.
[00:39:47] In this case, I like the episode less after listening to you.
[00:39:52] Oh, I think it's because while I was watching it, I wanted it to be better than it really
[00:39:56] was.
[00:39:57] Been there.
[00:39:58] And they got me with the reunion between Daryl and Carol and the French couple and the town
[00:40:04] of old zombies charmed me.
[00:40:06] But while I listened to your podcast, I realized that all through the episode, and I've only
[00:40:12] watched it once, it was stuffing down reactions I didn't want to have.
[00:40:16] For instance, why is Carol leading the zombies to the place where she knows Daryl is instead
[00:40:23] of away from there?
[00:40:24] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:25] Because that's what I thought she was doing at first.
[00:40:28] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:28] At this point, if I'm right, she knows nothing about the people inside those walls except
[00:40:34] that they're the people who took Daryl in and they're the enemy of this horrible woman
[00:40:38] who just tried to kill her.
[00:40:40] Yeah.
[00:40:40] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:40] And then she gets inside and not only kills every zombie she sees, which I would expect,
[00:40:46] but basically anyone she sees at all with no idea who they are or what their relationship
[00:40:51] to Daryl might be.
[00:40:52] That's right.
[00:40:53] Yep.
[00:40:53] And then she runs into Isabel, whom she also knows nothing about, and suddenly her demeanor
[00:41:01] changes.
[00:41:03] She's been so focused on doing anything she can to get to Daryl, but she doesn't ask if
[00:41:11] this woman knows him.
[00:41:12] And she's just suddenly solicitous and caring and helpful.
[00:41:18] Yeah.
[00:41:18] Nothing like the woman she was five minutes before.
[00:41:24] It's not that I found her caring inconsistent with who Carol really is.
[00:41:29] It's just that it's such a sudden change in the moment that it gives me a whiplash.
[00:41:33] It does make sense.
[00:41:35] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:35] It also felt off that when they were with the elderly couple, Carol went on letting them
[00:41:43] think that she was Isabel.
[00:41:45] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:45] And would she do that?
[00:41:46] Yeah, why?
[00:41:47] I'm with Jason on the moment of reunion.
[00:41:49] That felt touching and real to me.
[00:41:52] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:54] Mm-hmm.
[00:41:54] But Lucy, you were so right about the way the scenes following Isabel's death trivialized
[00:41:59] her character and her importance to Daryl.
[00:42:03] Yeah.
[00:42:05] I think he was seeing a real future.
[00:42:08] With the both of them, it should have been given time to brood and to grieve.
[00:42:16] Yeah.
[00:42:17] Most of all, I agree that the whole plot of this season feels like a retrofitting, which
[00:42:22] does such a disservice to the first season, which I loved.
[00:42:26] The zombie action was quite good, and J'Nai's death seemed fitting.
[00:42:31] The story feels patchwork.
[00:42:33] And don't even get me started on the who came back question.
[00:42:36] Blame.
[00:42:46] Blame.
[00:42:48] Blame.
[00:42:49] It took me, well...
[00:42:49] ...kit, but I'm in till the end, where Carol and Daryl go...
[00:42:55] ...I will follow.
[00:42:56] Yeah.
[00:42:57] thanks guys for
[00:43:00] your great coverage
[00:43:03] thank you
[00:43:04] bye
[00:43:06] I feel like Who Came Back is going to be the jumped shark
[00:43:09] of The Walking Dead
[00:43:11] it's the new Glenn under the dumpster
[00:43:13] we're like oh who came back
[00:43:15] oh okay cool
[00:43:16] right
[00:43:18] I mean please
[00:43:20] just have Carol say
[00:43:22] she was kidding about that film an extra scene
[00:43:24] right now and you can
[00:43:26] stop this from being the legacy of this show
[00:43:28] opening scene of next episode
[00:43:30] oh I meant to say it was Rick
[00:43:32] not my feelings
[00:43:35] show is saved
[00:43:36] that was a great message Dodie
[00:43:38] oh I loved it Dodie you're so thoughtful
[00:43:42] Andrea Abarka says
[00:43:43] hi Jason and Lucy
[00:43:44] I'm writing in about Daryl episode
[00:43:48] my lord
[00:43:49] let's try that again Andrea
[00:43:51] hi Jason and Lucy
[00:43:52] I'm writing in about Daryl Dixon
[00:43:55] episode 4
[00:43:56] La Paradis Pour Toi
[00:43:57] before I comment on the episode
[00:43:59] I just want to tell you
[00:44:00] you've been making my Mondays
[00:44:01] so much better
[00:44:02] I watch the episode
[00:44:03] wake up the next day
[00:44:04] like oh it's Monday
[00:44:05] then I remember
[00:44:06] oh I get to listen to
[00:44:07] Jason and Lucy
[00:44:08] yay
[00:44:09] anyway just thought
[00:44:09] you should know that
[00:44:10] thank you
[00:44:11] as for the episode
[00:44:12] so I pretty much knew
[00:44:13] you guys were probably
[00:44:14] not going to like it
[00:44:15] Daryl and Carol can do
[00:44:17] no wrong in my eyes
[00:44:18] but I also had my issues
[00:44:19] with it
[00:44:19] I'll start with what I loved
[00:44:21] the reunion
[00:44:22] someone had spoiled it for me
[00:44:23] on a Facebook group
[00:44:24] but even so
[00:44:25] I still cried
[00:44:26] I saw a clip from NY Comic Con
[00:44:28] with Norman Reedus
[00:44:29] talking about it
[00:44:29] he broke mid-sentence
[00:44:31] because he got so emotional
[00:44:32] and then Melissa got emotional
[00:44:34] their friendship is so genuine
[00:44:36] and they bring it to the screen
[00:44:37] and I still felt their moment
[00:44:38] also the banter between them
[00:44:41] the car was really hilarious
[00:44:42] when Carol mumbled under her breath
[00:44:44] you're too much
[00:44:44] I just laughed
[00:44:45] it did seem like Daryl
[00:44:47] didn't really mourn Isabel enough
[00:44:48] but in his defence
[00:44:49] it's kind of a move on or die situation
[00:44:51] maybe there will be more acknowledgement
[00:44:53] of her in the last two episodes
[00:44:55] they'll be like
[00:44:56] Laurent's like
[00:44:57] where's Isabel
[00:44:57] um she died
[00:44:58] and he'll be like
[00:44:59] oh crap
[00:44:59] oh well
[00:45:02] oh merde
[00:45:05] Laurent sips some wine
[00:45:06] and smokes a cigarette
[00:45:07] like we'll move on with life
[00:45:08] such is life
[00:45:09] such is life
[00:45:10] you know
[00:45:11] he's taking on
[00:45:12] Jeanne's characteristics
[00:45:14] um
[00:45:14] Andrew says
[00:45:15] so as far as the rest of the episode
[00:45:16] to me
[00:45:17] it felt like they had a checklist
[00:45:18] Carol gets into castle
[00:45:19] check
[00:45:20] finds Daryl
[00:45:21] check
[00:45:21] oh we need to get rid of extra baggage
[00:45:23] Isabel dies
[00:45:24] check
[00:45:24] and so on
[00:45:25] I also felt like it was a rush too
[00:45:27] not only did they not acknowledge Isabel's death
[00:45:29] but Daryl went from hugging Carol and crying
[00:45:31] to telling her to hurry up
[00:45:32] and being gruff with her
[00:45:33] um
[00:45:34] excuse me buddy
[00:45:35] I just came halfway across the world
[00:45:36] to get you
[00:45:37] Jeanne's death was surprising
[00:45:39] all the talking instead of shooting
[00:45:40] reminded me of Austin Powers
[00:45:42] I can't remember the scene
[00:45:43] but I do remember
[00:45:44] they make fun of how villains
[00:45:46] give these big speeches
[00:45:47] instead of shooting
[00:45:48] so yeah
[00:45:49] the whole thing was kind of dumb
[00:45:50] anyway
[00:45:51] still love my Daryl and Carol
[00:45:53] we'll see what next week brings
[00:45:54] love you guys
[00:45:55] aww thanks Andrea
[00:45:56] we love you too
[00:45:57] yes
[00:45:58] very Austin Powers
[00:46:00] I always think about
[00:46:01] oh it's like I always think about
[00:46:03] the scene with the steamroller
[00:46:04] yeah
[00:46:05] that's what I was just thinking of
[00:46:06] no
[00:46:06] no
[00:46:07] it's like a mile away
[00:46:10] so good
[00:46:11] Karen she says
[00:46:13] I love the what
[00:46:14] what
[00:46:14] what
[00:46:15] exchange between Daryl and Carol
[00:46:16] did you listen to the podcast this week
[00:46:19] by the way
[00:46:20] yes
[00:46:20] I love the intro
[00:46:22] what about the end
[00:46:23] did you listen to the end
[00:46:24] I didn't get to the end yet
[00:46:25] I'm halfway through
[00:46:26] I was like
[00:46:27] there
[00:46:28] I play that
[00:46:28] what
[00:46:29] what
[00:46:29] what
[00:46:30] and then there's this ominous music
[00:46:31] which is the scene where Rick goes
[00:46:34] what
[00:46:37] oh that's excellent
[00:46:38] I love that
[00:46:39] Karen says
[00:46:41] that's gonna be my new ringtone
[00:46:42] it also echoes how I sounded while watching the episode
[00:46:46] what
[00:46:46] what
[00:46:47] I agree 100% with your guys critique
[00:46:50] I mean the plot armor and mental gymnastics
[00:46:52] plus all the tonal shifts here
[00:46:54] geez
[00:46:54] I like your truffles in the mud analogy Jason
[00:46:57] because I did enjoy certain moments
[00:46:59] I still cried at Daryl and Carol's reunion
[00:47:01] even though
[00:47:02] I also thought it was anticlimactic
[00:47:04] Janae's death was awesome
[00:47:06] Greg Nicotero
[00:47:06] you sick genius
[00:47:07] but Isabelle's death
[00:47:09] ugh
[00:47:09] she could have died from a bite
[00:47:11] or in combat
[00:47:12] or something
[00:47:13] instead it felt like a last minute choice
[00:47:15] to clear house
[00:47:16] and it did nothing to service the story
[00:47:18] if anything
[00:47:19] Isabelle's death gives us the same beats with Daryl
[00:47:21] we've seen him grieve so many people before
[00:47:23] let's see him thrive in love
[00:47:25] true character growth would be having a well-adjusted
[00:47:28] confident Daryl with a romantic partner
[00:47:29] and keep Daryl and Carol platonic
[00:47:32] we have so many representations of hetero-romantic relationships
[00:47:36] in pop culture already
[00:47:38] plus it would feel
[00:47:39] it would just feel weird
[00:47:40] to have them hook up now
[00:47:43] I don't think they're going to do that
[00:47:44] do you?
[00:47:45] no I don't think so
[00:47:46] I hope not
[00:47:47] yeah
[00:47:48] even if they like
[00:47:50] flirt with the idea
[00:47:51] or explore it
[00:47:52] I think they'll decide not to
[00:47:54] I hope to god
[00:47:54] I don't think Carol's presence
[00:47:57] made the quality of the show go down per se
[00:47:59] but it does seem like the writers
[00:48:01] were on one track with the French characters
[00:48:03] and then they quickly pivoted the narrative
[00:48:05] when the series got renewed for season 3
[00:48:07] a new season means that AMC wanted known quantities
[00:48:11] in Norman and Melissa
[00:48:12] and didn't want to additionally shell out money
[00:48:14] for Clement's poesy
[00:48:15] Emil, Sylvie and Isabel deserved a nobler ending
[00:48:22] as did their actors
[00:48:23] AMC is the Walking Dead universe's true villain
[00:48:27] I mean
[00:48:29] ain't that the truth?
[00:48:31] I mean
[00:48:32] in some defense of AMC
[00:48:36] Kirkman shopped the Walking Dead around
[00:48:37] to different networks
[00:48:38] and HBO
[00:48:39] and I think NBC
[00:48:40] both were going to take it on
[00:48:42] but they said
[00:48:42] you got to take out all that blood
[00:48:43] you know
[00:48:44] and they're like
[00:48:45] no
[00:48:46] that's not what this is
[00:48:48] and AMC was like
[00:48:49] you can do whatever you want
[00:48:50] Greg Nicotero go to town
[00:48:51] so
[00:48:52] AMC really gave it the home
[00:48:54] that allowed it to become the thing that it was
[00:48:55] but they were just stingy with the money the whole time
[00:48:57] they seem to
[00:48:58] I think it's a TV
[00:48:59] wide thing at the moment isn't it?
[00:49:01] there was this huge peak
[00:49:02] where everyone was investing and spending
[00:49:04] and then all of a sudden they're like
[00:49:06] oh we're now worried about balancing the numbers
[00:49:08] because there's so much stuff
[00:49:10] in the market is oversaturated
[00:49:11] and
[00:49:12] yeah
[00:49:12] I think AMC have just made some shitty decisions
[00:49:15] well yeah
[00:49:16] and throughout
[00:49:16] the whole
[00:49:17] like
[00:49:18] let's throw all our money into streaming
[00:49:20] and
[00:49:21] millions and millions
[00:49:22] just to
[00:49:23] so we can
[00:49:23] be bigger than everyone else
[00:49:25] AMC was stingy that whole time too
[00:49:28] like
[00:49:28] they weren't like the other
[00:49:29] streamers that were just spending lavishly
[00:49:31] they were all
[00:49:32] at least from the articles that came out
[00:49:33] complaints by Frank Darabont
[00:49:35] complaints by Robert Kirkman
[00:49:36] they were always stingy
[00:49:37] and you can see that
[00:49:38] because every scene is shot
[00:49:39] in the same stretch of either highway
[00:49:41] or Georgia Forest
[00:49:42] it's all just one rope
[00:49:44] yeah
[00:49:45] anyway
[00:49:45] what does
[00:49:47] I don't know how to run a network
[00:49:48] so I guess
[00:49:48] yeah I know
[00:49:49] I mean they don't ask us do they
[00:49:51] so
[00:49:51] yeah
[00:49:51] no thank god
[00:49:52] it would be way worse
[00:49:53] uh
[00:49:54] what does make me happy
[00:49:55] is hearing
[00:49:55] how many people have registered
[00:49:57] to vote
[00:49:57] because of this podcast
[00:49:58] bravo
[00:49:59] Jason and Lucy
[00:50:00] for getting people civically engaged
[00:50:01] my first time voting was in 2008
[00:50:03] a truly historic election
[00:50:05] I remember feeling like
[00:50:06] we made
[00:50:07] all made history together
[00:50:08] like I was part of something
[00:50:10] bigger than myself
[00:50:10] I volunteered as a poll worker
[00:50:12] in 2012
[00:50:13] and my friends and I
[00:50:14] even launched a website
[00:50:15] called Suffrage Over Silence
[00:50:16] in 2020
[00:50:17] wow
[00:50:17] that broke down each state's
[00:50:19] voting rules and regulations
[00:50:20] my musician friend
[00:50:21] started a civic happy hour
[00:50:23] in lieu of a merchandise table
[00:50:24] during her concerts this year
[00:50:26] so that we could register folks
[00:50:27] to vote and get them
[00:50:28] to write
[00:50:29] vote forward letters
[00:50:30] yeah that's Vienna Tang
[00:50:32] me and Karen and David
[00:50:33] went to one of her concerts
[00:50:34] with Karen Shee
[00:50:35] and it was really cool
[00:50:35] oh wow
[00:50:37] she said
[00:50:37] we have two weeks
[00:50:38] to be a part of history again
[00:50:39] don't be a zombie
[00:50:40] and just accept the status quo
[00:50:42] vote to make the change
[00:50:44] you want to see
[00:50:45] I would say
[00:50:46] be a zombie
[00:50:47] and be hungry for change
[00:50:48] oh
[00:50:49] I mean both great
[00:50:50] both great slogans
[00:50:51] thanks Karen
[00:50:52] alright
[00:50:53] Rebecca Cantu Davidson
[00:50:55] is next
[00:50:56] here we go
[00:50:57] Rebecca
[00:50:57] hi Jason and Lucy
[00:50:59] this is Rebecca from Houston
[00:51:01] I'm sending in my feedback
[00:51:03] for the Daryl Dixon
[00:51:04] the latest episode
[00:51:06] of the Daryl Dixon show
[00:51:08] I'm annoyed
[00:51:10] I'm frustrated
[00:51:11] you guys are right
[00:51:12] everybody's acting
[00:51:14] out of character
[00:51:15] like
[00:51:15] I get it
[00:51:17] you're in a whole new setting
[00:51:18] whole new kind of
[00:51:19] not really
[00:51:20] but sort of
[00:51:21] new set of circumstances
[00:51:22] and you've got to
[00:51:23] change and adapt
[00:51:24] but this is just so
[00:51:26] like
[00:51:27] like Jason was saying
[00:51:28] it's so contrived
[00:51:29] the plot feels so forced
[00:51:31] their decisions
[00:51:32] feel so forced
[00:51:34] and I just
[00:51:35] I don't like it
[00:51:36] I'm uncomfortable
[00:51:36] I do like Daryl's action
[00:51:39] action movie
[00:51:40] action movie star
[00:51:42] scenes
[00:51:42] I do enjoy those
[00:51:45] you could tell
[00:51:45] he's like oh
[00:51:46] can we like do this
[00:51:47] and then maybe we'll do that
[00:51:48] like I'm so interested
[00:51:49] to be a fly on the wall
[00:51:50] when they're discussing
[00:51:51] those scenes
[00:51:53] I'm not happy that
[00:51:55] Isabel died
[00:51:56] they just like
[00:51:58] convinced me
[00:52:00] that Daryl
[00:52:01] was feeling
[00:52:02] had some serious
[00:52:03] feelings for someone
[00:52:04] and he acted on it
[00:52:05] because we knew
[00:52:06] he liked Connie
[00:52:07] for a while
[00:52:07] but he never like
[00:52:08] acted on it
[00:52:09] and Leah
[00:52:10] well we don't talk
[00:52:11] about Leah
[00:52:12] but I was really
[00:52:13] rooting for them
[00:52:14] to be like a
[00:52:15] family unit
[00:52:16] and like they would
[00:52:17] like go back
[00:52:18] with Carol
[00:52:19] back to the US
[00:52:20] or whatever
[00:52:22] but I'm really
[00:52:24] annoyed about this
[00:52:25] I don't like that
[00:52:25] they just
[00:52:26] you know she died
[00:52:27] and they just
[00:52:27] moved on to the
[00:52:29] mysterious
[00:52:30] neighborhood
[00:52:31] of the old people
[00:52:32] and then the old
[00:52:32] people turn on them
[00:52:33] and except for
[00:52:35] the old lady
[00:52:36] she luckily I guess
[00:52:38] stood up for them
[00:52:39] but I'm just
[00:52:40] really annoyed
[00:52:41] I'm gonna keep
[00:52:41] watching obviously
[00:52:43] but I just wanted
[00:52:45] to call in
[00:52:46] and share
[00:52:46] that the only
[00:52:48] word I can pick
[00:52:49] up is annoyed
[00:52:49] I hope they
[00:52:51] I hope the payoff
[00:52:52] is gonna be there
[00:52:53] but I'm not
[00:52:54] optimistic about
[00:52:55] that
[00:52:56] um
[00:52:58] yeah the whole
[00:52:59] when Daryl
[00:53:00] asked Carol
[00:53:01] so who came
[00:53:01] back when you
[00:53:02] when you were
[00:53:03] on the radio
[00:53:03] and she's like
[00:53:04] oh a feeling
[00:53:05] I'm like oh my
[00:53:06] god that is
[00:53:07] such bullshit
[00:53:08] like
[00:53:10] the payoff
[00:53:11] if she had said
[00:53:11] Rick and
[00:53:12] Michonne came
[00:53:13] back like
[00:53:14] the payoff would
[00:53:15] have been like
[00:53:16] I feel like
[00:53:17] Daryl would have
[00:53:17] been like
[00:53:18] well fuck
[00:53:18] Laurent let's
[00:53:19] go right now
[00:53:20] but maybe
[00:53:21] that's why
[00:53:22] Carol didn't
[00:53:22] say that
[00:53:23] maybe she
[00:53:23] made that
[00:53:24] whole feeling
[00:53:24] thing up
[00:53:25] to give
[00:53:26] Daryl some
[00:53:26] time to come
[00:53:27] to terms
[00:53:27] with or
[00:53:28] give him a
[00:53:28] chance to
[00:53:29] find Laurent
[00:53:29] and then she
[00:53:30] could tell him
[00:53:30] actually Rick and
[00:53:31] Michonne are
[00:53:31] home
[00:53:32] we can go
[00:53:33] maybe that's
[00:53:33] the way to
[00:53:34] convince him
[00:53:34] to go home
[00:53:35] um
[00:53:36] but yeah
[00:53:37] hated it
[00:53:39] we'll see where
[00:53:40] it goes so
[00:53:41] don't get
[00:53:45] better if
[00:53:46] so
[00:53:47] last season
[00:53:48] when Carol
[00:53:49] said
[00:53:50] came home
[00:53:51] they
[00:53:52] writers intended
[00:53:53] that to be
[00:53:53] Rick but
[00:53:54] this season
[00:53:54] they decided
[00:53:55] to change
[00:53:55] it and so
[00:53:56] instead she
[00:53:57] said
[00:53:57] Heath
[00:53:58] would that
[00:53:59] be better
[00:53:59] than what
[00:53:59] she did
[00:54:00] say
[00:54:02] it would
[00:54:03] make me
[00:54:03] laugh
[00:54:03] it would
[00:54:04] really make
[00:54:04] me laugh
[00:54:05] because surely
[00:54:05] Daryl's
[00:54:06] response would
[00:54:06] be like
[00:54:06] who
[00:54:07] remember that
[00:54:08] one dude
[00:54:08] that one guy
[00:54:10] he went off
[00:54:10] to do 24
[00:54:11] I like the
[00:54:11] idea that
[00:54:12] Carol's like
[00:54:12] dude did you
[00:54:13] not watch
[00:54:13] the ones who
[00:54:14] live
[00:54:16] it was
[00:54:16] premium
[00:54:17] television
[00:54:18] it's the best
[00:54:18] walking dead
[00:54:19] spinoff
[00:54:20] that really
[00:54:21] made me laugh
[00:54:21] Rebecca
[00:54:22] fuck Laurent
[00:54:25] amazing
[00:54:26] all right we
[00:54:27] have an email
[00:54:27] from Bethany
[00:54:29] Watrisp
[00:54:30] hi Lucy
[00:54:31] and Jason
[00:54:31] Bethany
[00:54:32] from York
[00:54:33] here
[00:54:34] Bethany
[00:54:34] you live
[00:54:35] in York
[00:54:36] that's
[00:54:36] interesting
[00:54:38] I didn't
[00:54:38] know that
[00:54:39] anyone lived
[00:54:39] in York
[00:54:40] you listened
[00:54:40] to the
[00:54:40] podcast
[00:54:41] I live
[00:54:42] there too
[00:54:42] nice to
[00:54:43] hear from
[00:54:43] you
[00:54:44] Bethany
[00:54:44] says
[00:54:45] got my
[00:54:45] mail-in
[00:54:45] ballot
[00:54:46] off a few
[00:54:46] weeks ago
[00:54:47] hope everyone
[00:54:47] gets out
[00:54:48] and votes
[00:54:49] okay so
[00:54:50] can we
[00:54:50] just get a
[00:54:50] redo
[00:54:51] wait
[00:54:52] that's not
[00:54:53] maybe that's
[00:54:54] New York
[00:54:54] no
[00:54:55] she's voting
[00:54:56] you can mail
[00:54:57] in from over
[00:54:58] here my friend
[00:54:58] so she's
[00:54:59] American
[00:55:00] yeah
[00:55:00] in York
[00:55:01] okay
[00:55:01] I hope
[00:55:02] so
[00:55:04] I don't
[00:55:05] know anyone
[00:55:06] here
[00:55:08] I have no
[00:55:09] friends
[00:55:09] I'm kidding
[00:55:10] I know like
[00:55:11] two people
[00:55:13] so Bethany
[00:55:14] says okay
[00:55:14] so can we
[00:55:15] just get a
[00:55:16] redo on this
[00:55:16] entire season
[00:55:17] they basically
[00:55:18] undone all the
[00:55:19] good storytelling
[00:55:20] they had set up
[00:55:20] last season in the
[00:55:21] most terrible
[00:55:22] way I think I
[00:55:22] sprained my
[00:55:23] eyeballs from
[00:55:24] rolling them so
[00:55:24] much
[00:55:25] what Carol
[00:55:26] it was a
[00:55:27] feeling that had
[00:55:27] come back
[00:55:28] come on
[00:55:29] it's like
[00:55:29] you guys
[00:55:29] said
[00:55:30] they are
[00:55:30] really
[00:55:30] insulting
[00:55:31] the viewer
[00:55:31] with how
[00:55:31] stupid
[00:55:32] the writing
[00:55:32] is
[00:55:33] so much
[00:55:34] is being
[00:55:35] so clearly
[00:55:35] broadcasted
[00:55:36] like
[00:55:36] Isabel's
[00:55:37] death
[00:55:37] and the
[00:55:37] old man
[00:55:38] turning
[00:55:38] on them
[00:55:38] the minute
[00:55:39] he started
[00:55:40] talking to
[00:55:40] them
[00:55:41] I knew
[00:55:41] he was
[00:55:41] going to do
[00:55:41] something
[00:55:42] to stab
[00:55:42] them in the back
[00:55:43] they sort
[00:55:43] of ran away
[00:55:44] as soon
[00:55:44] as he
[00:55:44] got that
[00:55:45] look in
[00:55:45] his eye
[00:55:45] you gotta
[00:55:46] try these
[00:55:46] truffles
[00:55:46] come on
[00:55:47] try the
[00:55:47] truffles
[00:55:48] right
[00:55:49] especially
[00:55:49] says Bethany
[00:55:50] when he was
[00:55:50] going on
[00:55:51] about doing
[00:55:51] business
[00:55:52] with the
[00:55:52] Nazis
[00:55:52] in order
[00:55:53] to have
[00:55:53] a
[00:55:53] slightly
[00:55:53] better
[00:55:54] life
[00:55:55] they
[00:55:55] whizzed
[00:55:55] through
[00:55:56] Isabel's
[00:55:56] death
[00:55:56] and Daryl's
[00:55:57] not so
[00:55:57] mourning
[00:55:58] of her
[00:55:58] just to
[00:55:59] then spend
[00:55:59] what felt
[00:56:00] like a
[00:56:00] year
[00:56:00] with an
[00:56:00] old
[00:56:01] couple
[00:56:01] on a
[00:56:01] farm
[00:56:01] I
[00:56:02] couldn't
[00:56:02] even
[00:56:02] get
[00:56:03] sad
[00:56:03] about
[00:56:03] Isabel's
[00:56:04] death
[00:56:04] because
[00:56:04] I
[00:56:04] was
[00:56:04] too
[00:56:05] mad
[00:56:05] about
[00:56:05] how
[00:56:06] ridiculously
[00:56:06] stupid
[00:56:07] it
[00:56:07] was
[00:56:07] they
[00:56:08] really
[00:56:08] did
[00:56:08] her
[00:56:08] a
[00:56:09] disservice
[00:56:09] I'm
[00:56:10] also
[00:56:10] disappointed
[00:56:11] by how
[00:56:11] the
[00:56:11] nest
[00:56:11] characters
[00:56:12] have
[00:56:12] turned
[00:56:12] out
[00:56:13] last
[00:56:14] season
[00:56:14] I
[00:56:14] literally
[00:56:15] teared
[00:56:15] up at
[00:56:15] the idea
[00:56:15] of this
[00:56:16] beautiful
[00:56:16] society
[00:56:16] of people
[00:56:17] who came
[00:56:18] together
[00:56:18] despite
[00:56:18] being
[00:56:19] of all
[00:56:19] different
[00:56:19] religions
[00:56:20] to support
[00:56:20] each
[00:56:21] other
[00:56:21] now
[00:56:22] they
[00:56:22] are
[00:56:22] mindless
[00:56:22] child
[00:56:23] sacrificing
[00:56:23] cultists
[00:56:24] who
[00:56:24] will
[00:56:24] partner
[00:56:25] with
[00:56:25] the
[00:56:25] enemy
[00:56:25] just
[00:56:26] to
[00:56:26] prove
[00:56:26] what
[00:56:26] that
[00:56:27] God
[00:56:27] is
[00:56:27] on
[00:56:27] their
[00:56:27] side
[00:56:28] Lo
[00:56:29] Sang's
[00:56:29] character
[00:56:29] no
[00:56:29] longer
[00:56:30] makes
[00:56:30] any
[00:56:30] sense
[00:56:31] Bethany
[00:56:31] I think
[00:56:32] you put
[00:56:32] that
[00:56:32] very
[00:56:33] well
[00:56:34] she
[00:56:34] goes
[00:56:34] on
[00:56:35] and
[00:56:35] Carol
[00:56:35] doesn't
[00:56:35] really
[00:56:36] resemble
[00:56:36] the
[00:56:36] Carol
[00:56:36] we
[00:56:37] know
[00:56:37] from
[00:56:37] the
[00:56:37] main
[00:56:37] show
[00:56:38] she
[00:56:38] meets
[00:56:39] someone
[00:56:39] and
[00:56:39] two
[00:56:39] seconds
[00:56:39] later
[00:56:40] she's
[00:56:40] telling
[00:56:40] them
[00:56:40] secrets
[00:56:41] about
[00:56:41] her
[00:56:41] life
[00:56:41] that
[00:56:42] she
[00:56:42] didn't
[00:56:42] even
[00:56:42] tell
[00:56:42] her
[00:56:43] court
[00:56:43] group
[00:56:43] for
[00:56:43] the
[00:56:43] last
[00:56:44] 12
[00:56:44] years
[00:56:44] sometimes
[00:56:45] when you're
[00:56:45] on vacation
[00:56:46] you do
[00:56:47] things that
[00:56:48] you wouldn't
[00:56:48] do at
[00:56:48] home
[00:56:50] and
[00:56:50] she's
[00:56:50] warm
[00:56:51] and
[00:56:51] motherly
[00:56:51] to
[00:56:52] dying
[00:56:52] Isabel
[00:56:52] even though
[00:56:53] she has
[00:56:53] no idea
[00:56:53] who this
[00:56:54] person
[00:56:54] is
[00:56:55] when
[00:56:55] was
[00:56:55] Carol
[00:56:56] ever
[00:56:56] warm
[00:56:56] and
[00:56:56] motherly
[00:56:57] except
[00:56:57] when
[00:56:57] she
[00:56:57] was
[00:56:58] faking
[00:56:58] it
[00:56:58] for
[00:56:58] a
[00:56:58] disguise
[00:56:59] I'm
[00:57:00] a
[00:57:00] little
[00:57:00] surprised
[00:57:00] that
[00:57:00] Melissa
[00:57:01] Macbride
[00:57:01] Norman
[00:57:01] and
[00:57:01] readers
[00:57:02] haven't
[00:57:02] pushed
[00:57:02] back
[00:57:02] on some
[00:57:03] of this
[00:57:03] since
[00:57:03] they are
[00:57:04] executive
[00:57:04] producers
[00:57:05] I really
[00:57:06] don't feel
[00:57:06] that there
[00:57:06] is any
[00:57:07] way of
[00:57:07] salvaging
[00:57:07] this
[00:57:08] the way
[00:57:08] they've
[00:57:08] gone
[00:57:08] now
[00:57:09] there
[00:57:09] could
[00:57:09] have
[00:57:09] been
[00:57:10] a great
[00:57:10] storyline
[00:57:10] of Carol
[00:57:11] joining
[00:57:11] them
[00:57:31] could
[00:57:31] be
[00:57:31] referring
[00:57:32] to
[00:57:32] Bethany
[00:57:33] that's
[00:57:33] a great
[00:57:34] email
[00:57:34] though
[00:57:34] you're
[00:57:34] writing
[00:57:35] more
[00:57:35] yes
[00:57:36] absolutely
[00:57:36] and tell
[00:57:37] us
[00:57:37] which
[00:57:38] York
[00:57:38] you're
[00:57:38] in
[00:57:38] we're
[00:57:39] interested
[00:57:40] is it
[00:57:40] the new
[00:57:40] one
[00:57:41] or the
[00:57:41] old
[00:57:41] one
[00:57:41] you
[00:57:42] one
[00:57:42] or the
[00:57:42] old
[00:57:42] one
[00:57:43] pan
[00:57:43] says
[00:57:44] forgive
[00:58:01] the
[00:58:01] she
[00:58:01] wasn't
[00:58:02] talking
[00:58:02] about
[00:58:02] Rick
[00:58:03] which
[00:58:03] makes
[00:58:03] it
[00:58:03] all
[00:58:03] the
[00:58:03] more
[00:58:04] disappointing
[00:58:04] when we
[00:58:05] had
[00:58:05] the ones
[00:58:05] who
[00:58:06] live
[00:58:06] in
[00:58:06] between
[00:58:06] the
[00:58:06] first
[00:58:06] and
[00:58:07] second
[00:58:07] season
[00:58:07] of
[00:58:07] this
[00:58:08] spinoff
[00:58:08] yeah
[00:58:09] I'm
[00:58:09] hoping
[00:58:09] she only
[00:58:10] said
[00:58:10] that
[00:58:11] to
[00:58:11] Daryl
[00:58:11] so they
[00:58:11] could
[00:58:11] focus
[00:58:12] on the
[00:58:12] task
[00:58:12] at hand
[00:58:13] but it
[00:58:13] doesn't
[00:58:13] seem
[00:58:14] likely
[00:58:14] I think
[00:58:15] I might
[00:58:15] have
[00:58:15] called
[00:58:16] it
[00:58:16] in my
[00:58:16] comments
[00:58:17] on episode
[00:58:17] two
[00:58:17] when I
[00:58:18] said
[00:58:18] that
[00:58:18] we
[00:58:18] couldn't
[00:58:18] be
[00:58:18] more
[00:58:19] than an
[00:58:19] episode
[00:58:20] or two
[00:58:20] away from
[00:58:20] Carol
[00:58:21] and Daryl's
[00:58:21] reunion
[00:58:21] look that
[00:58:22] scene was
[00:58:23] worth the
[00:58:23] wait
[00:58:23] and a total
[00:58:24] emotional
[00:58:25] payoff
[00:58:25] but that
[00:58:26] payoff
[00:58:26] was muted
[00:58:26] mere
[00:58:27] minutes
[00:58:27] later
[00:58:27] when
[00:58:28] Isabel
[00:58:28] died
[00:58:29] was it
[00:58:30] not just
[00:58:30] a little
[00:58:30] odd
[00:58:31] that
[00:58:31] Daryl's
[00:58:31] reaction
[00:58:31] to her
[00:58:32] death
[00:58:32] was so
[00:58:33] downplayed
[00:58:33] it
[00:58:34] was
[00:58:34] odd
[00:58:34] I
[00:58:35] was
[00:58:35] expecting
[00:58:36] a bit
[00:58:36] more
[00:58:36] heartbreak
[00:58:37] especially
[00:58:37] considering
[00:58:38] Norman Reedus
[00:58:39] showed some
[00:58:39] true emotion
[00:58:40] when Daryl
[00:58:40] and Carol
[00:58:41] finally met
[00:58:41] it's still
[00:58:42] fantastic
[00:58:43] to have
[00:58:43] Melissa
[00:58:44] Bride
[00:58:44] and Norman
[00:58:44] Reedus
[00:58:45] on screen
[00:58:45] together
[00:58:46] again
[00:58:46] though
[00:58:46] generally
[00:58:47] I like
[00:58:47] the fact
[00:58:48] that the
[00:58:48] writers
[00:58:48] haven't
[00:58:49] forgotten
[00:58:49] about
[00:58:49] Sophia's
[00:58:50] death
[00:58:50] and the
[00:58:50] impact
[00:58:50] it had
[00:58:51] on
[00:58:51] Carol
[00:58:51] but I
[00:58:51] can't
[00:58:52] help
[00:58:52] but wonder
[00:58:52] why
[00:58:53] was none
[00:58:53] of this
[00:58:53] trauma
[00:58:54] shown on
[00:58:54] the flagship
[00:58:55] series
[00:58:55] it feels
[00:58:56] more than
[00:58:57] a little
[00:58:57] shoehorned
[00:58:58] in to give
[00:58:58] Carol
[00:59:06] still I
[00:59:06] love the
[00:59:06] emotion
[00:59:07] in the
[00:59:07] scene
[00:59:07] with the
[00:59:07] French
[00:59:08] woman
[00:59:08] and how
[00:59:09] it was
[00:59:09] a pure
[00:59:09] mother-to-mother
[00:59:10] moment
[00:59:10] where they
[00:59:11] each
[00:59:11] recognized
[00:59:12] the
[00:59:12] other's
[00:59:12] loss
[00:59:13] they
[00:59:13] could have
[00:59:14] done so
[00:59:14] much more
[00:59:14] with
[00:59:15] Janaye
[00:59:16] she'll be
[00:59:17] back
[00:59:19] yeah you
[00:59:20] know she'll
[00:59:20] turn up
[00:59:21] I'm guessing
[00:59:22] that with
[00:59:22] her death
[00:59:23] that makes
[00:59:23] Lo saying
[00:59:24] the big
[00:59:24] bad now
[00:59:25] I think
[00:59:25] Janaye's
[00:59:26] death
[00:59:26] was among
[00:59:26] the most
[00:59:27] gratuitous
[00:59:27] and shocking
[00:59:28] in the
[00:59:28] franchise
[00:59:29] I did
[00:59:29] not expect
[00:59:30] that
[00:59:30] finally
[00:59:31] how on
[00:59:31] earth is
[00:59:32] Carol
[00:59:32] going to
[00:59:32] get
[00:59:32] Ash
[00:59:33] to fly
[00:59:33] them
[00:59:33] back
[00:59:36] for
[00:59:36] that
[00:59:36] I
[00:59:37] think
[00:59:37] she
[00:59:37] just
[00:59:37] knows
[00:59:37] that
[00:59:38] she
[00:59:38] can
[00:59:38] get
[00:59:38] people
[00:59:38] to
[00:59:38] do
[00:59:39] stuff
[00:59:39] and so
[00:59:39] she's
[00:59:40] gonna
[00:59:40] work
[00:59:41] figure it
[00:59:41] out
[00:59:41] when
[00:59:41] time
[00:59:42] comes
[00:59:43] yeah
[00:59:43] she says
[00:59:44] she's gonna
[00:59:44] show up
[00:59:44] with Daryl
[00:59:45] and Laurent
[00:59:45] and be like
[00:59:46] well I
[00:59:46] couldn't find
[00:59:46] my daughter
[00:59:47] but here's
[00:59:47] these other
[00:59:48] two people
[00:59:48] I never
[00:59:49] mentioned
[00:59:50] the extra
[00:59:51] passengers
[00:59:51] one being
[00:59:52] an adult
[00:59:52] also means
[00:59:53] a lot of
[00:59:53] extra fuel
[00:59:54] that they're
[00:59:54] going to
[00:59:55] need for
[00:59:55] the flight
[00:59:56] too
[00:59:56] well as
[00:59:56] we were
[00:59:57] saying
[00:59:57] earlier
[00:59:57] I
[00:59:58] think
[00:59:58] Ash
[00:59:58] was
[00:59:59] expecting
[01:00:00] an
[01:00:00] adult
[01:00:06] despite my
[01:00:06] criticisms
[01:00:06] it hasn't
[01:00:07] yet
[01:00:07] reached
[01:00:07] the
[01:00:08] heights
[01:00:08] of
[01:00:08] the
[01:00:08] main
[01:00:08] show's
[01:00:09] best
[01:00:09] seasons
[01:00:09] but
[01:00:09] it's
[01:00:10] still
[01:00:10] good
[01:00:10] I'm
[01:00:11] hoping
[01:00:11] the
[01:00:11] writers
[01:00:11] don't
[01:00:12] spin
[01:00:12] the
[01:00:12] wheels
[01:00:13] and
[01:00:13] they
[01:00:13] stick
[01:00:13] the
[01:00:14] landing
[01:00:14] hopefully
[01:00:14] with Daryl
[01:00:15] being reunited
[01:00:16] with Rick
[01:00:16] love your
[01:00:17] work
[01:00:17] cheers from
[01:00:18] the capital
[01:00:18] of Australia
[01:00:19] bye
[01:00:20] yeah maybe
[01:00:21] it would be
[01:00:22] awesome if
[01:00:22] they could
[01:00:23] get Andrew
[01:00:23] Lincoln to
[01:00:24] come back
[01:00:24] for the
[01:00:24] last episode
[01:00:25] of the
[01:00:26] Daryl series
[01:00:26] I would
[01:00:27] like that
[01:00:28] it would
[01:00:28] be nice
[01:00:28] if you
[01:00:29] know
[01:00:29] they all
[01:00:30] kind of
[01:00:31] end in the
[01:00:32] one place
[01:00:32] it sort of
[01:00:33] ties it all
[01:00:33] together
[01:00:33] I would
[01:00:34] be very
[01:00:34] happy with
[01:00:35] that
[01:00:35] but
[01:00:35] even if
[01:00:36] they
[01:00:36] that would
[01:00:37] be the
[01:00:38] best
[01:00:38] if they
[01:00:38] could get
[01:00:39] the whole
[01:00:39] cast of
[01:00:40] characters
[01:00:41] who are still
[01:00:41] alive
[01:00:41] together
[01:00:42] for one
[01:00:42] last story
[01:00:43] yeah
[01:00:44] I have my
[01:00:44] doubts
[01:00:44] that's
[01:00:45] possible
[01:00:46] financially
[01:00:46] or
[01:00:47] logistically
[01:00:48] but even
[01:00:49] if they
[01:00:49] can't do
[01:00:50] that I
[01:00:50] would still
[01:00:50] be happy
[01:00:51] just to
[01:00:52] have
[01:00:52] Daryl and
[01:00:53] Rick in a
[01:00:53] scene together
[01:00:53] you know
[01:00:54] at this rate
[01:00:55] it will probably
[01:00:56] be Daryl
[01:00:56] and fucking
[01:00:57] Tobias
[01:00:58] that would
[01:01:00] be interesting
[01:01:00] who's available
[01:01:01] Tobias
[01:01:02] whatever
[01:01:03] happened to
[01:01:03] him
[01:01:03] he that
[01:01:05] actor
[01:01:05] uh
[01:01:06] Lincoln
[01:01:08] Castellanos
[01:01:09] he was
[01:01:10] in a great
[01:01:10] episode of
[01:01:11] Poker Face
[01:01:12] as this
[01:01:12] 7-11 clerk
[01:01:14] who he was
[01:01:15] really good
[01:01:16] in it
[01:01:16] that actually
[01:01:17] does make
[01:01:17] me happy
[01:01:18] I did
[01:01:19] enjoy him
[01:01:19] on that
[01:01:19] show
[01:01:20] yeah
[01:01:20] me too
[01:01:21] and he
[01:01:22] was great
[01:01:22] in person
[01:01:22] too
[01:01:22] we did
[01:01:23] a couple
[01:01:23] conventions
[01:01:24] all right
[01:01:24] here is
[01:01:25] Anne Wynn
[01:01:26] who's a
[01:01:26] little behind
[01:01:27] so she's
[01:01:27] calling in
[01:01:28] about last
[01:01:28] week's
[01:01:29] episode
[01:01:30] hey
[01:01:30] this is
[01:01:31] Anne Wynn
[01:01:31] and this
[01:01:32] is feedback
[01:01:32] for
[01:01:33] Daryl
[01:01:33] Dixon
[01:01:34] and
[01:01:34] L'Invisible
[01:01:36] I just
[01:01:36] loved
[01:01:37] the interactions
[01:01:38] between
[01:01:38] Carol and
[01:01:39] Daryl
[01:01:39] and each
[01:01:39] of their
[01:01:39] respective
[01:01:40] villains
[01:01:40] I loved
[01:01:42] when
[01:01:42] Carol
[01:01:42] was having
[01:01:43] that
[01:01:43] conversation
[01:01:44] with
[01:01:44] Janay
[01:01:44] and we've
[01:01:45] seen
[01:01:45] Carol
[01:01:46] be
[01:01:46] deceptive
[01:01:47] so many
[01:01:48] times
[01:01:48] and she
[01:01:49] just makes
[01:01:49] stuff up
[01:01:49] and she
[01:01:50] told her
[01:01:51] from start
[01:01:51] to finish
[01:01:52] exactly what
[01:01:53] she'd been
[01:01:53] doing
[01:01:53] completely
[01:01:54] truthfully
[01:01:54] and Janay
[01:01:55] just laughed
[01:01:55] because it
[01:01:56] sounded so
[01:01:56] ridiculous
[01:01:57] it was
[01:01:57] hilarious
[01:01:58] loved that
[01:01:59] and then
[01:02:00] Daryl
[01:02:00] and then Daryl
[01:02:01] his first
[01:02:01] line
[01:02:02] when he
[01:02:02] shows up
[01:02:02] to
[01:02:03] rescue
[01:02:04] Laurent
[01:02:04] and
[01:02:05] he just
[01:02:06] looks over
[01:02:06] and goes
[01:02:07] show's
[01:02:08] over
[01:02:08] motherfucker
[01:02:10] action movie
[01:02:11] was classic
[01:02:12] and then later
[01:02:13] on when he's
[01:02:14] lying all
[01:02:14] beaten up
[01:02:15] and Lo
[01:02:15] Sang is
[01:02:16] going on
[01:02:17] and on
[01:02:17] and on
[01:02:17] Lo
[01:02:18] Sang is
[01:02:18] preach
[01:02:19] preach
[01:02:19] preach
[01:02:20] blah
[01:02:20] blah
[01:02:20] blah
[01:02:21] and Daryl
[01:02:22] just goes
[01:02:22] fuck off
[01:02:23] I just
[01:02:24] thought it
[01:02:24] was great
[01:02:25] super sad
[01:02:26] towards the
[01:02:27] ending
[01:02:27] when they
[01:02:28] were sitting
[01:02:29] there
[01:02:29] chained up
[01:02:30] in their
[01:02:31] separate little
[01:02:31] cells
[01:02:32] Daryl
[01:02:33] and Isabella
[01:02:34] and I
[01:02:35] was sure
[01:02:36] she was going
[01:02:37] to kill
[01:02:37] herself with
[01:02:38] that little
[01:02:39] great covering
[01:02:40] and she
[01:02:41] just looked so
[01:02:41] sad and she
[01:02:42] was telling
[01:02:42] me you know
[01:02:43] telling us
[01:02:44] all what was
[01:02:44] going to
[01:02:44] happen and
[01:02:45] all that
[01:02:46] and then
[01:02:47] she didn't
[01:02:48] and I was
[01:02:48] like I
[01:02:49] don't know
[01:02:49] what's going
[01:02:49] on but
[01:02:50] I've just
[01:02:51] listened to
[01:02:51] the first
[01:02:51] part of
[01:02:52] your
[01:02:52] coverage
[01:02:52] and Dina
[01:02:53] I agree
[01:02:53] I think
[01:02:54] maybe she's
[01:02:54] been bit
[01:02:54] anyway
[01:02:55] we'll see
[01:02:55] what happens
[01:02:55] thank you
[01:02:56] for your
[01:02:57] awesomeness
[01:02:58] bye
[01:02:59] well good
[01:03:00] news she
[01:03:01] wasn't
[01:03:01] bit
[01:03:04] so there's
[01:03:05] good news
[01:03:06] and there's
[01:03:07] bad news
[01:03:09] thanks
[01:03:09] Anwen
[01:03:11] oh we
[01:03:12] love Anwen
[01:03:13] so we've
[01:03:14] got Dina
[01:03:14] up next
[01:03:15] who was
[01:03:16] fantastic
[01:03:17] on the
[01:03:17] podcast
[01:03:17] last week
[01:03:18] Dina says
[01:03:19] I've had
[01:03:20] the strangest
[01:03:20] day
[01:03:20] my new
[01:03:22] tattoo
[01:03:22] artist
[01:03:22] had a
[01:03:22] wee
[01:03:23] fling
[01:03:23] with
[01:03:23] Norman
[01:03:23] Reedus
[01:03:24] in
[01:03:24] 2010
[01:03:24] oh my
[01:03:25] gosh
[01:03:25] did I
[01:03:26] mention
[01:03:26] that I
[01:03:27] live in
[01:03:27] the sleepy
[01:03:27] suburbs
[01:03:28] of
[01:03:28] Massachusetts
[01:03:28] of all
[01:03:29] the gin
[01:03:30] joints
[01:03:30] in all
[01:03:31] the towns
[01:03:31] then I
[01:03:32] watched
[01:03:32] Daryl
[01:03:32] Dixon
[01:03:33] freshly
[01:03:34] watched
[01:03:34] in fact
[01:03:34] within 10
[01:03:35] minutes I
[01:03:35] was filled
[01:03:36] with a deep
[01:03:36] and seething
[01:03:37] anger
[01:03:37] and resolved
[01:03:38] and resolved
[01:03:38] that I
[01:03:38] not only owe
[01:03:39] you a beer
[01:03:39] Jason but
[01:03:40] an entire
[01:03:41] bottle of
[01:03:41] Talisker
[01:03:42] the good
[01:03:42] one
[01:03:42] and one
[01:03:43] for you
[01:03:44] Lucy
[01:03:44] because I
[01:03:44] like you
[01:03:45] I will
[01:03:45] take that
[01:03:46] thanks Dina
[01:03:47] that was
[01:03:48] actually the
[01:03:48] whiskey I'd
[01:03:48] had a little
[01:03:49] drink of
[01:03:49] before we
[01:03:50] did our
[01:03:50] recording
[01:03:51] which one
[01:03:51] the tin
[01:03:52] Port Rouge
[01:03:54] well I think
[01:03:55] you should say
[01:03:55] Portree but it's
[01:03:56] spelt Portree
[01:03:57] yeah
[01:03:58] but it's like
[01:03:59] the gallicky
[01:03:59] like
[01:04:00] anyway
[01:04:02] Dina says
[01:04:02] there was
[01:04:03] too much
[01:04:03] suspension
[01:04:03] of disbelief
[01:04:04] with Carol
[01:04:05] escaping the
[01:04:05] army
[01:04:05] never mind
[01:04:06] the Zed
[01:04:06] army
[01:04:07] and conveniently
[01:04:07] running into
[01:04:08] Isabel
[01:04:08] of course
[01:04:09] I'm pissed
[01:04:10] off that they
[01:04:10] killed Isabel
[01:04:11] we knew it
[01:04:11] was going to
[01:04:12] happen but
[01:04:12] yay not by
[01:04:13] zombie bite
[01:04:14] still can't
[01:04:15] they surprise
[01:04:15] us
[01:04:16] something about
[01:04:17] the way
[01:04:17] Daryl handled
[01:04:18] Isabel's last
[01:04:19] moments rang
[01:04:19] untrue
[01:04:20] especially in
[01:04:21] comparison to
[01:04:21] his same old
[01:04:22] same old
[01:04:23] reaction
[01:04:23] reuniting
[01:04:23] with Carol
[01:04:24] how many
[01:04:25] times do we
[01:04:26] need to see
[01:04:26] him crying
[01:04:26] on her
[01:04:27] shoulder
[01:04:27] a thousand
[01:04:28] it was
[01:04:28] beautiful
[01:04:29] the first couple
[01:04:30] of times
[01:04:30] and now it's
[01:04:31] just boring
[01:04:31] Daryl perplexed
[01:04:33] me and the
[01:04:33] Daryl-Carol
[01:04:34] exchanges just
[01:04:36] pissed me off
[01:04:37] I think because
[01:04:38] they too quickly
[01:04:39] replaced Isabel
[01:04:39] with Carol
[01:04:41] I did sort of
[01:04:42] sense that
[01:04:43] Carol's constant
[01:04:44] mentioning of
[01:04:44] Judith irked
[01:04:45] Daryl and I
[01:04:45] liked that
[01:04:46] not because of
[01:04:47] Judith but
[01:04:47] because it
[01:04:48] seemed we were
[01:04:48] getting an
[01:04:49] inkling that
[01:04:49] Daryl was
[01:04:50] mourning what
[01:04:50] could have
[01:04:51] been
[01:04:51] bringing his
[01:04:52] own family
[01:04:52] back to
[01:04:53] America to
[01:04:53] join his
[01:04:54] other family
[01:04:54] stings even
[01:04:55] more now that
[01:04:56] Rick, Michonne,
[01:04:57] Judith and RJ
[01:04:58] are intact
[01:04:58] god there's that
[01:05:00] rage again
[01:05:00] and rage again
[01:05:01] at the end
[01:05:01] with the
[01:05:02] religious right
[01:05:02] bedding the
[01:05:03] political far
[01:05:04] right that
[01:05:05] had nothing to
[01:05:05] do with the
[01:05:06] show except
[01:05:06] that it seems
[01:05:07] to be reflecting
[01:05:07] real life
[01:05:08] point for the
[01:05:09] writers I
[01:05:10] know I loved
[01:05:10] a lot about
[01:05:11] this episode
[01:05:11] I must have
[01:05:12] this is just
[01:05:13] the guttural
[01:05:14] initial response
[01:05:15] I still have
[01:05:16] faith if only
[01:05:17] because of that
[01:05:17] lovely music on
[01:05:18] the gramophone
[01:05:19] reminding me
[01:05:19] that art is
[01:05:20] hope as well
[01:05:21] as the tough
[01:05:21] old ladies
[01:05:22] that stand
[01:05:22] up to
[01:05:22] fascists
[01:05:24] Dina wrote
[01:05:24] in again
[01:05:25] later after
[01:05:26] listening to
[01:05:26] the podcast
[01:05:27] shitty writing
[01:05:28] that's the
[01:05:29] crux of it
[01:05:29] absolutely nothing
[01:05:30] was earned in
[01:05:31] this episode
[01:05:32] not a thing
[01:05:33] Carol or Daryl
[01:05:34] aren't going to
[01:05:34] die
[01:05:34] no high stakes
[01:05:35] there
[01:05:36] Isabel did not
[01:05:37] need to die
[01:05:37] the writers are
[01:05:38] too lazy to
[01:05:39] figure out how
[01:05:39] to further
[01:05:40] explore a
[01:05:40] relationship
[01:05:41] or at the
[01:05:41] very least
[01:05:42] give Daryl
[01:05:42] the room to
[01:05:43] have a moment
[01:05:43] with her
[01:05:44] without Carol
[01:05:45] hovering over
[01:05:46] them both
[01:05:46] like a vulture
[01:05:47] waiting to
[01:05:47] pick the flesh
[01:05:48] off the bones
[01:05:49] and like I said
[01:05:50] in my last rant
[01:05:51] they just brushed
[01:05:51] over her death
[01:05:52] and inserted Carol
[01:05:53] to replace her
[01:05:54] going so far
[01:05:55] as to have
[01:05:55] the French
[01:05:56] couple proclaim
[01:05:56] that they are
[01:05:57] in love
[01:05:57] they just
[01:05:58] erased Isabel
[01:05:59] from the story
[01:06:00] she didn't
[01:06:00] deserve that
[01:06:01] Janaye didn't
[01:06:02] need to die
[01:06:03] most realistic
[01:06:04] villain yet
[01:06:04] and they kill
[01:06:05] her off
[01:06:05] Lo Sang is not
[01:06:06] at all intriguing
[01:06:07] and so of course
[01:06:08] they'll let the
[01:06:09] loon live
[01:06:09] the show is
[01:06:10] rapidly becoming
[01:06:11] The Walking Dead
[01:06:12] all over again
[01:06:13] no stakes
[01:06:13] the heroes live
[01:06:14] interesting characters
[01:06:16] die
[01:06:16] and I'm not sure
[01:06:17] I care anymore
[01:06:18] hopefully your
[01:06:19] feedback episode
[01:06:20] and the listeners
[01:06:20] feedback will
[01:06:21] change my mind
[01:06:22] two bottles
[01:06:23] of scotch juice
[01:06:24] two bottles
[01:06:26] oh Dina
[01:06:27] no we're not
[01:06:28] going to change
[01:06:29] your minds
[01:06:29] I'm sorry hun
[01:06:31] except
[01:06:32] here's hoping
[01:06:33] it picks up
[01:06:33] yeah and
[01:06:34] she didn't even
[01:06:35] like any of
[01:06:36] the truffles
[01:06:36] in the mud
[01:06:37] it seemed like
[01:06:37] because she was
[01:06:38] really a fan
[01:06:39] of Isabel
[01:06:40] and Daryl
[01:06:41] so all of that
[01:06:42] just stung
[01:06:43] anything with
[01:06:43] Carol
[01:06:44] because I mean
[01:06:45] as I said
[01:06:46] last time
[01:06:47] Carol was sort
[01:06:48] of indirectly
[01:06:49] responsible
[01:06:49] for Isabel's
[01:06:50] death
[01:06:51] because she led
[01:06:51] the zombies
[01:06:52] there that
[01:06:52] distracted
[01:06:53] Losang
[01:06:54] which caused
[01:06:54] Isabel to
[01:06:56] try to kill
[01:06:57] him and
[01:06:58] or hurt him
[01:06:58] and then he
[01:06:59] stabbed her
[01:07:00] in a reaction
[01:07:02] to that
[01:07:02] and then she
[01:07:03] was right there
[01:07:05] like you said
[01:07:05] hovering over
[01:07:06] Daryl's shoulder
[01:07:08] as soon as
[01:07:09] Isabel died
[01:07:10] she put her
[01:07:11] hand on his
[01:07:11] shoulder
[01:07:11] and then she
[01:07:12] took Isabel's
[01:07:12] name
[01:07:13] I know
[01:07:14] and then she
[01:07:14] literally took
[01:07:15] her name
[01:07:15] and her role
[01:07:16] and what the
[01:07:17] fuck
[01:07:17] it was so weird
[01:07:19] why did he do
[01:07:19] this show
[01:07:20] I wonder if
[01:07:20] the writers
[01:07:21] are like
[01:07:21] man everyone
[01:07:22] loves Carol
[01:07:22] and Daryl
[01:07:23] so much
[01:07:23] so let's
[01:07:24] just focus
[01:07:25] on that
[01:07:25] you know
[01:07:26] forget all
[01:07:26] that other
[01:07:27] stuff we
[01:07:27] were doing
[01:07:27] I'm like
[01:07:28] no you
[01:07:28] were leading
[01:07:28] us on a
[01:07:29] journey
[01:07:29] we were
[01:07:30] invested
[01:07:31] this will
[01:07:31] make up
[01:07:32] credit
[01:07:32] all right
[01:07:36] let's see
[01:07:36] what Robin
[01:07:37] Springer has
[01:07:37] to say
[01:07:38] oh Robin
[01:07:40] bonjour
[01:07:40] mes amis
[01:07:41] c'est moi
[01:07:41] j'espère que
[01:07:42] vous allez bien
[01:07:43] et que vous
[01:07:44] êtes heureuse
[01:07:46] aujourd'hui
[01:07:46] um
[01:07:47] this episode
[01:07:49] oh my god
[01:07:50] I had
[01:07:50] well right
[01:07:51] from the jump
[01:07:51] I had to
[01:07:52] laugh and
[01:07:53] I'm probably
[01:07:53] gonna start
[01:07:54] laughing right
[01:07:54] now
[01:07:55] um
[01:07:56] Carol breaks
[01:07:57] what makes
[01:07:58] a break for
[01:07:58] it runs
[01:07:59] her little
[01:08:00] old lady run
[01:08:00] to the go-kart
[01:08:02] jumps in
[01:08:02] and yells
[01:08:04] back to
[01:08:04] Caudron
[01:08:04] who's
[01:08:05] chained
[01:08:06] to the
[01:08:06] frame
[01:08:06] hold on
[01:08:08] which I
[01:08:09] actually had
[01:08:10] to pause
[01:08:10] because I
[01:08:11] was laughing
[01:08:11] that was
[01:08:12] hilarious
[01:08:12] um
[01:08:13] but then
[01:08:14] there were
[01:08:14] some
[01:08:14] you know
[01:08:15] the
[01:08:15] very lovely
[01:08:16] um
[01:08:17] D
[01:08:18] Daryl does
[01:08:19] seem like a
[01:08:20] little boy
[01:08:21] un petit
[01:08:21] garçon
[01:08:22] um
[01:08:23] just burying
[01:08:24] his face
[01:08:24] uh
[01:08:25] in Carol
[01:08:26] but then
[01:08:26] I laughed
[01:08:27] again
[01:08:27] a little
[01:08:28] bit
[01:08:28] because I'm
[01:08:29] saying to
[01:08:29] myself
[01:08:30] get that
[01:08:31] hair out
[01:08:32] of your
[01:08:32] eyes
[01:08:33] son
[01:08:33] how can
[01:08:34] you even
[01:08:34] see
[01:08:35] so he
[01:08:36] must have
[01:08:36] heard me
[01:08:37] because then
[01:08:37] he tucks it
[01:08:38] behind his
[01:08:38] ears
[01:08:38] but that
[01:08:39] was that
[01:08:39] was nice
[01:08:39] it was a
[01:08:40] lovely way
[01:08:41] for them
[01:08:41] to get
[01:08:41] back
[01:08:41] together
[01:08:42] unfortunately
[01:08:43] um
[01:08:44] you know
[01:08:44] is his
[01:08:45] death
[01:08:45] inevitable
[01:08:46] inevitable
[01:08:47] inevitable
[01:08:47] of course
[01:08:47] she was
[01:08:48] gonna die
[01:08:49] first of
[01:08:50] all there
[01:08:50] she is
[01:08:51] with that
[01:08:51] pathetic
[01:08:51] little
[01:08:52] drain
[01:08:53] thing
[01:08:53] what's
[01:08:54] not
[01:08:54] gonna
[01:08:54] kill
[01:08:54] anybody
[01:08:54] and who
[01:08:55] ever
[01:08:56] dreamed
[01:08:57] that
[01:08:57] Lo Song
[01:08:58] was gonna
[01:08:58] just
[01:08:58] bury
[01:08:59] his knife
[01:09:00] in her
[01:09:00] up to
[01:09:01] a tilt
[01:09:01] um
[01:09:02] sure she
[01:09:03] didn't
[01:09:03] um
[01:09:05] there was
[01:09:06] no way
[01:09:06] it was
[01:09:06] ever gonna
[01:09:07] be the
[01:09:07] three
[01:09:07] of them
[01:09:08] it was
[01:09:08] never
[01:09:08] gonna
[01:09:09] be
[01:09:09] Daryl
[01:09:09] Carol
[01:09:10] and
[01:09:10] Issa
[01:09:10] it had
[01:09:11] to be
[01:09:11] the two
[01:09:11] of them
[01:09:12] and Issa
[01:09:12] had to
[01:09:12] go
[01:09:13] um
[01:09:13] and I
[01:09:14] just
[01:09:14] so
[01:09:15] I liked
[01:09:16] her so
[01:09:16] so so
[01:09:17] much
[01:09:17] and Carol
[01:09:18] has never
[01:09:19] been a
[01:09:19] favorite
[01:09:19] of mine
[01:09:20] and I
[01:09:20] so was
[01:09:21] wishing
[01:09:21] at that
[01:09:22] moment
[01:09:22] that they
[01:09:23] had just
[01:09:23] left Carol
[01:09:24] out of
[01:09:24] the whole
[01:09:25] thing
[01:09:25] um
[01:09:26] I just
[01:09:26] I'm not
[01:09:27] really
[01:09:27] digging
[01:09:27] Carol
[01:09:28] but um
[01:09:29] you know
[01:09:29] they did
[01:09:30] what they
[01:09:30] did
[01:09:31] and then of
[01:09:31] course
[01:09:32] we run
[01:09:32] into the
[01:09:33] lovely
[01:09:33] French
[01:09:33] couple
[01:09:34] living in
[01:09:35] their beautiful
[01:09:35] little house
[01:09:36] on their
[01:09:36] farm
[01:09:37] and you
[01:09:38] know
[01:09:38] um
[01:09:39] D.D. had
[01:09:40] to die
[01:09:41] for the
[01:09:41] old man's
[01:09:42] treachery
[01:09:43] you know
[01:09:43] uh
[01:09:44] c'est dommage
[01:09:45] but it
[01:09:45] had to
[01:09:46] happen
[01:09:46] um
[01:09:47] but then
[01:09:48] I'm thinking
[01:09:48] to myself
[01:09:49] these people
[01:09:50] are in no
[01:09:51] big hurry
[01:09:51] to find
[01:09:52] Laurent
[01:09:53] they have
[01:09:54] dinner
[01:09:54] Carol says
[01:09:56] well we
[01:09:56] can't pitch
[01:09:57] black out
[01:09:57] there
[01:09:57] which I
[01:09:58] was like
[01:09:58] when has
[01:09:59] that ever
[01:09:59] stopped
[01:10:00] them
[01:10:00] but you
[01:10:00] know
[01:10:01] dinner
[01:10:02] had to
[01:10:03] give the
[01:10:03] old man
[01:10:04] time to
[01:10:05] you know
[01:10:06] give the
[01:10:06] stuff away
[01:10:07] to the
[01:10:07] bad guys
[01:10:08] and then
[01:10:08] you know
[01:10:09] do his
[01:10:10] treachery
[01:10:10] nice tour
[01:10:11] of the
[01:10:11] town
[01:10:12] very cool
[01:10:13] idea for
[01:10:14] the elderly
[01:10:15] walkers
[01:10:15] to be
[01:10:16] kept there
[01:10:17] on their
[01:10:17] property
[01:10:18] you know
[01:10:19] um
[01:10:19] very neat
[01:10:20] the
[01:10:20] the chained
[01:10:22] up walkers
[01:10:22] on the
[01:10:22] way in
[01:10:23] was extremely
[01:10:24] cool and
[01:10:24] they were
[01:10:25] very disturbing
[01:10:26] um
[01:10:27] then they
[01:10:27] work on
[01:10:28] the car
[01:10:28] then they
[01:10:29] have eggs
[01:10:30] with truffles
[01:10:31] and I'm
[01:10:32] going
[01:10:32] hurry
[01:10:33] up
[01:10:35] hurry up
[01:10:36] you gotta
[01:10:37] go
[01:10:37] gotta go
[01:10:38] they spent
[01:10:38] two days
[01:10:38] there
[01:10:39] and then
[01:10:39] of course
[01:10:39] a pretty
[01:10:39] house gets
[01:10:40] shot up
[01:10:40] again when
[01:10:41] Janae shows
[01:10:42] up with
[01:10:42] her um
[01:10:43] her people
[01:10:44] and I
[01:10:44] really did
[01:10:45] not expect
[01:10:45] her death
[01:10:47] to come
[01:10:47] so quickly
[01:10:48] I thought
[01:10:49] something else
[01:10:50] would I don't
[01:10:50] know what I
[01:10:51] thought but I
[01:10:51] was surprised
[01:10:52] but also that
[01:10:53] I'm laughing
[01:10:53] again because
[01:10:54] the very cool
[01:10:56] way that she
[01:10:56] died the
[01:10:57] horrific horrific
[01:10:58] way just
[01:10:58] reminds me of
[01:10:59] one of the
[01:10:59] guys in
[01:11:00] the movie
[01:11:01] the thing
[01:11:01] who does
[01:11:03] all that
[01:11:03] stuff with
[01:11:04] his face
[01:11:04] and his
[01:11:05] head that
[01:11:05] starts blowing
[01:11:06] up and
[01:11:07] everything and
[01:11:07] all of a
[01:11:07] sudden the
[01:11:08] thing bursts
[01:11:09] out of its
[01:11:10] chest so I
[01:11:10] was waiting
[01:11:11] for that to
[01:11:11] happen to
[01:11:12] Janae um
[01:11:14] so it was a
[01:11:16] wild ride for
[01:11:17] me uh very
[01:11:18] wild ride but
[01:11:19] um you know I
[01:11:21] you should watch
[01:11:22] the thing at
[01:11:23] the end with
[01:11:24] Greg Nicotero
[01:11:25] explaining how
[01:11:25] that how they
[01:11:26] did that it's
[01:11:27] really cool very
[01:11:28] cool uh anyway
[01:11:29] enough I'm sure
[01:11:30] I've gone over
[01:11:31] uh talk to you
[01:11:32] soon a bientot
[01:11:35] merci beaucoup
[01:11:36] au revoir
[01:11:36] very well said
[01:11:38] absolutely I
[01:11:39] definitely need to
[01:11:40] watch these after
[01:11:41] the episode yeah
[01:11:42] yeah we're not
[01:11:43] watching them because
[01:11:44] we've got screeners
[01:11:44] so yeah we need
[01:11:46] to need to get
[01:11:47] into that especially
[01:11:48] this one yeah but
[01:11:49] I've yeah yeah
[01:11:50] absolutely because
[01:11:51] I've also heard that
[01:11:52] like the um Janae
[01:11:54] actress is really fun
[01:11:55] in these and
[01:11:57] yeah I don't
[01:11:58] really have a
[01:11:58] sense of her at
[01:11:59] all so I feel
[01:12:00] like yeah
[01:12:00] you gotta check
[01:12:01] them out all
[01:12:02] right one last
[01:12:03] message it's from
[01:12:04] Rachel Teal Edwards
[01:12:05] who says I never
[01:12:06] finished fear but
[01:12:08] it's hard to imagine
[01:12:08] riding worse than
[01:12:10] this it gets
[01:12:12] it's worse
[01:12:14] it is so it is a
[01:12:16] lot worse with
[01:12:17] beer balloons and
[01:12:19] nuclear bombs that
[01:12:21] don't really hurt
[01:12:22] anyone and
[01:12:24] completely senseless
[01:12:27] deaths and
[01:12:28] characters that
[01:12:30] throw other people
[01:12:32] off roofs for no
[01:12:33] reason and just
[01:12:34] completely change
[01:12:36] their character
[01:12:36] each season it's
[01:12:39] it's worse
[01:12:41] I'm not
[01:12:42] listening so yeah
[01:12:43] it's worse
[01:12:44] it really is
[01:12:45] that's just what I
[01:12:46] can remember it is
[01:12:47] packed to the gills
[01:12:49] I mean awfulness
[01:12:50] and you think it
[01:12:52] can't get any worse
[01:12:53] and then the next
[01:12:53] season you're almost
[01:12:54] impressed that it's
[01:12:56] actually even worse
[01:12:57] truly like it's it's
[01:12:59] baffling
[01:13:00] baffling
[01:13:01] it is that's a good
[01:13:02] word anyway she
[01:13:03] goes on actually this
[01:13:04] feels a little
[01:13:05] reminiscent of fear
[01:13:05] when they abruptly
[01:13:06] killed off great
[01:13:07] characters and torched
[01:13:08] original storylines for
[01:13:09] no logical reason
[01:13:10] yep behind the scenes
[01:13:11] stuff my take is that
[01:13:13] the writers were either
[01:13:14] too stupid or too
[01:13:15] lazy sorry if you're
[01:13:16] listening writers by the
[01:13:17] to come up with a
[01:13:18] reasonable creative and
[01:13:19] enjoyable bridge that
[01:13:20] connects season one to
[01:13:21] carol joining the cast
[01:13:23] so instead they just
[01:13:24] said fuck it just throw
[01:13:25] everything in the trash and
[01:13:26] light it on fire no one
[01:13:28] will care because carol's
[01:13:29] back but wait everyone
[01:13:30] cares this whole season
[01:13:32] seems like a waste of
[01:13:33] time not to mention an
[01:13:34] embarrassing and
[01:13:35] pathetic follow-up to
[01:13:36] season one which was so
[01:13:37] damn good what the hell
[01:13:38] was the point of daryl
[01:13:39] falling in love and and
[01:13:41] the long-awaited and
[01:13:42] perfectly romantic
[01:13:43] makeout scene were left
[01:13:45] hanging not just because
[01:13:46] isa is dead now but
[01:13:48] because the writers
[01:13:49] couldn't even honor that
[01:13:50] huge moment by allowing
[01:13:51] daryl to express himself
[01:13:52] to isabelle as she's
[01:13:53] dying to have an
[01:13:54] emotional episode in
[01:13:55] which there was any
[01:13:56] indication of grief for
[01:13:57] the loss of his first
[01:13:58] real love what about
[01:14:00] leah just kidding uh to
[01:14:02] fucking tell carol if
[01:14:04] any anything at all about
[01:14:06] her no no instead
[01:14:08] apparently literally
[01:14:08] nothing prior to the
[01:14:10] lackluster daryl and
[01:14:11] carol reunion even
[01:14:12] matters because daryl's
[01:14:13] back to his jolly old
[01:14:14] self who is this person
[01:14:17] laughing and joking with
[01:14:18] carol the next day
[01:14:19] wtf oh they did they
[01:14:21] laughed i loved what
[01:14:23] angela kang did with
[01:14:24] them having them like
[01:14:25] oh you're my best
[01:14:26] friend what are you a
[01:14:27] 12 years old you know
[01:14:28] stuff like that but
[01:14:30] anyway honestly their
[01:14:31] conversations after they
[01:14:32] left the castle didn't
[01:14:33] even make sense i felt
[01:14:34] like i was taking crazy
[01:14:35] pills why is this so
[01:14:36] nonchalant carol says
[01:14:38] this is crazy just to let
[01:14:40] the audience know that she
[01:14:41] indeed understands that
[01:14:42] reuniting reuniting in
[01:14:43] france is crazy but it's
[01:14:45] time to move on and
[01:14:46] oh yeah what about
[01:14:47] issa's death i actually
[01:14:48] would have preferred if
[01:14:49] she'd been bitten that
[01:14:51] would at least make a
[01:14:52] modicum of sense as
[01:14:53] opposed to this fleeting
[01:14:54] moment in which she what
[01:14:56] tries to fight back by
[01:14:57] scratching losang's face
[01:14:58] and then calm cool losang
[01:15:00] loses his shit and stabs
[01:15:01] her to death what yeah
[01:15:03] what what issa's death
[01:15:05] was reminiscent of beth's
[01:15:07] purely because it was a
[01:15:09] complete and utter waste of
[01:15:10] an awesome and beloved
[01:15:11] character yeah that's a
[01:15:13] good point but with beth i
[01:15:14] sobbed uncontrollably and
[01:15:16] with issa i screamed that's
[01:15:17] it at my tv it must be
[01:15:19] joking i remember with
[01:15:20] beth i was like that why
[01:15:21] wait what just happened
[01:15:22] there that was so dumb
[01:15:23] so dumb but alas this is
[01:15:26] all too real so many
[01:15:27] questions why did they lie
[01:15:28] about carol being isabel
[01:15:30] good question that seemed
[01:15:32] to be an unnecessary
[01:15:33] complication i mean my i
[01:15:34] just thought maybe they
[01:15:35] did that because they
[01:15:38] didn't want to have to
[01:15:39] explain that isabel was
[01:15:40] dead and possibly cause
[01:15:42] this couple to then not
[01:15:43] be cooperative with them
[01:15:46] that's all i could come
[01:15:46] up with i yeah don't rock
[01:15:48] the boat but even then i
[01:15:50] don't feel like those two
[01:15:51] were going to be like what
[01:15:51] the fuck you're not
[01:15:52] isabel get out of here
[01:15:53] like get out of here
[01:15:55] like yeah like okay
[01:15:57] well that's too bad i'm
[01:15:58] sorry anyway if the car
[01:16:00] they took the parts from
[01:16:01] was a whole car why
[01:16:03] didn't they just take that
[01:16:04] car well it wasn't their
[01:16:06] car it was that old man's
[01:16:07] car uh codron makes it
[01:16:10] all the way to mont
[01:16:12] st michelle just to die
[01:16:14] with some throwaway
[01:16:15] line tell dixon i did it
[01:16:16] for the boy i don't think
[01:16:18] he's dead we saw him we
[01:16:19] didn't see it yeah how
[01:16:21] does any of this make
[01:16:22] sense i know it wasn't a
[01:16:24] person that came back it
[01:16:25] was a feeling more lazy
[01:16:26] writing so they didn't have
[01:16:27] to include rick's return and
[01:16:29] what it would do to daryl
[01:16:30] in the storyline going
[01:16:31] forward yeah i don't
[01:16:33] understand why they
[01:16:34] wouldn't just say that
[01:16:35] and to be totally
[01:16:36] transparent as i write
[01:16:37] this i haven't even
[01:16:38] finished the episode i
[01:16:39] went to bed with the old
[01:16:41] man holding them all at
[01:16:42] gunpoint because i just
[01:16:43] can't well you missed a
[01:16:45] pretty good scene at the
[01:16:47] end there i hope you
[01:16:47] went and watched it
[01:16:48] uh i'll watch it later
[01:16:49] this week when i can
[01:16:50] tolerate getting punched
[01:16:51] in the gut with the
[01:16:52] writing that makes me
[01:16:53] think the writers actually
[01:16:54] despise their remaining
[01:16:55] audience the writer die
[01:16:57] fans and think we're
[01:16:58] stupid but rest well
[01:16:59] isabel you deserve so
[01:17:01] much better as do we
[01:17:04] a nice uh a nice
[01:17:08] eulogy for isabel there
[01:17:09] i think yeah yeah
[01:17:11] yeah i don't blame you
[01:17:13] for being upset obvious
[01:17:48] threat to untold numbers
[01:17:48] of citizens the people
[01:17:50] he kills get up and
[01:17:51] tell are they slow moving
[01:17:53] chief yeah they're dead
[01:17:54] they're all messed up
[01:18:00] so hollywood reporter
[01:18:02] talked with showrunner
[01:18:03] david zabel talked with
[01:18:06] him about the daryl and
[01:18:07] carol reunion scene he
[01:18:09] said there were many
[01:18:10] different ideas for how
[01:18:11] we should do that scene
[01:18:12] on the one hand we
[01:18:14] wanted to earn that
[01:18:15] moment and didn't want
[01:18:16] to rush it we didn't
[01:18:17] want it to happen too
[01:18:18] early in the season and
[01:18:19] plausibility demanded that
[01:18:21] it couldn't happen too
[01:18:22] easily anyway because
[01:18:23] plausibility is so
[01:18:24] important to us in
[01:18:25] everything we do on the
[01:18:27] show and i'm just
[01:18:27] kidding i've added that
[01:18:28] part so that became the
[01:18:31] plan a mid-season
[01:18:32] reunion norman
[01:18:34] readis and melissa
[01:18:35] mcbride had a really
[01:18:36] interesting ideas about
[01:18:37] it and we all knew it
[01:18:38] was an iconic moment
[01:18:39] getting these two back
[01:18:40] together so it had to be
[01:18:42] huge the version we
[01:18:43] filmed was written in
[01:18:44] about three days before
[01:18:45] we filmed it which is
[01:18:46] unusually late for us we
[01:18:47] write in advance because
[01:18:48] this show requires a lot
[01:18:49] of prep we don't make big
[01:18:51] changes on the fly we
[01:18:52] might redo scenes but you
[01:18:53] cannot make a show like
[01:18:54] this without being
[01:18:55] targeted and without having
[01:18:57] a plan that's been worked
[01:18:58] on for a long time but
[01:18:59] this one it was just so
[01:19:00] important to get right from
[01:19:01] the beginning we knew it
[01:19:02] was the seminal moment of
[01:19:04] the show and hopefully when
[01:19:05] people look back on the
[01:19:06] whole of the walking
[01:19:07] dead they'll look back at
[01:19:08] this as one of the great
[01:19:10] moments so that's a lot
[01:19:11] of pressure well don't
[01:19:13] worry because we won't
[01:19:17] we're just gonna think
[01:19:18] about daryl about carol
[01:19:20] saying that she was
[01:19:21] talking about a feeling
[01:19:22] that's all we're gonna be
[01:19:23] thinking that's the one
[01:19:24] thing we're gonna be
[01:19:25] focusing on folks is that
[01:19:26] because it's so dumb
[01:19:27] uh he said about the
[01:19:29] abruptness of isabel's
[01:19:31] death so soon after she
[01:19:33] and daryl kissed he says
[01:19:34] who no i'm just kidding
[01:19:39] isabel oh yeah no she's
[01:19:41] he said we have six
[01:19:42] episodes to tell this
[01:19:43] story in a longer season
[01:19:44] i don't think it
[01:19:45] transpires exactly the way
[01:19:47] it transpires but in
[01:19:48] order to get to where we
[01:19:49] need to get in the time
[01:19:50] we have allowed things
[01:19:51] have to happen fast the
[01:19:53] audience really responded
[01:19:54] to her i'm not an
[01:19:55] aficionado of the old
[01:19:57] school walking dead
[01:19:58] audience but they're
[01:19:59] pretty tough on new
[01:20:00] characters they liked
[01:20:01] her a lot she's really
[01:20:02] highly rated and
[01:20:03] appreciated by the old
[01:20:04] timers and that says a
[01:20:05] lot clemence is a great
[01:20:07] actor and she really
[01:20:08] threaded the needle of
[01:20:09] that character it's
[01:20:10] beautiful what she and
[01:20:11] norman created it's
[01:20:12] tough to let it go but
[01:20:15] she just cost too much
[01:20:16] no she was just so damn
[01:20:19] good we had to write
[01:20:20] her out yeah uh and
[01:20:23] then norman reed has
[01:20:25] talked with entertainment
[01:20:26] weekly again about the
[01:20:28] daryl cow reunion
[01:20:29] he says it was written
[01:20:31] originally different
[01:20:32] where she finds me in
[01:20:33] jail and we talked
[01:20:35] about changing it i
[01:20:36] wanted the emotion to
[01:20:37] be different not just
[01:20:38] oh she finds me and i'm
[01:20:39] weak i wanted it to
[01:20:41] start weak and then he
[01:20:42] gets out and turns into
[01:20:43] a killing machine and
[01:20:44] then just a record
[01:20:45] scratch moment where it
[01:20:46] goes quiet everything
[01:20:47] goes on around us but
[01:20:49] the sound goes off and
[01:20:50] it's like is this real
[01:20:51] you're right in front of
[01:20:52] me so we worked on that
[01:20:54] it had to be different
[01:20:55] than you just found me
[01:20:56] the energy had to be out
[01:20:57] of this world when it
[01:20:58] happened had to be
[01:20:59] frenetic just pure
[01:21:00] adrenaline it was i
[01:21:03] thought it was good but
[01:21:05] um i don't know i was
[01:21:08] also thinking about how
[01:21:09] they have these really
[01:21:12] fast aggressive powerful
[01:21:13] zombies in this season to
[01:21:15] amp up the stakes and
[01:21:17] then daryl just goes
[01:21:18] through and takes him
[01:21:20] out just as easily as he
[01:21:21] ever had taken out any
[01:21:22] zombies so it just kind
[01:21:23] of neuters that whole
[01:21:25] thing you know throws that
[01:21:26] idea out the window none
[01:21:27] of the shows have stuck
[01:21:29] the landing with
[01:21:30] variants like i've yet
[01:21:31] to see one of these
[01:21:32] shows really kind of
[01:21:34] convince me that they're
[01:21:35] more of a threat or that
[01:21:37] they're changing the
[01:21:38] stakes in any way um i
[01:21:40] think it was probably
[01:21:40] the right call to not
[01:21:42] have her discover him in
[01:21:43] prison yeah maybe but i
[01:21:46] don't know if they
[01:21:47] quite realize the vision
[01:21:48] that he's describing
[01:21:49] there but i i appreciate
[01:21:50] hearing a bit more about
[01:21:51] why those decisions were
[01:21:52] made to me it's just
[01:21:54] norman reedus being
[01:21:55] like i want daryl to
[01:21:56] be cool okay have
[01:21:58] them be cooler
[01:21:59] hey look my vacation
[01:22:01] friend norman reedus and
[01:22:02] i don't yeah lay off
[01:22:05] all right sorry sorry
[01:22:06] sorry we're pals now
[01:22:07] just kidding i take it
[01:22:08] back um but uh i
[01:22:10] thought the variant in
[01:22:11] the walking dead was
[01:22:12] pretty cool when they
[01:22:13] started climbing things
[01:22:14] and grabbing at the
[01:22:15] weapons and stuff
[01:22:17] yeah definitely
[01:22:18] yeah because you're
[01:22:19] saying you didn't think
[01:22:20] never really
[01:22:21] going anywhere from
[01:22:22] there and then in the
[01:22:24] in um in the finale
[01:22:27] in commonwealth they
[01:22:28] were like climbing over
[01:22:29] the walls and stuff i
[01:22:30] remember but then the
[01:22:31] series ended so yeah
[01:22:32] they couldn't really
[01:22:33] take it yeah i just feel
[01:22:34] a bit like it was like
[01:22:35] whoa never mind too
[01:22:37] late
[01:22:38] bye
[01:22:40] bye
[01:22:41] bye
[01:22:42] bye
[01:22:44] all right that is our

[01:23:00] carol's back so let's
[01:23:01] kill off everyone you
[01:23:02] love and have nothing
[01:23:03] make sense
[01:23:05] and if you want to
[01:23:06] write in or leave us a
[01:23:07] voice message about any
[01:23:08] feelings you're having
[01:23:09] that have returned uh

[01:23:13] contact information at

[01:23:17] other podcasts
[01:23:19] like yeah i don't
[01:23:20] mention this one enough

[01:23:23] peck and daphne on run
[01:23:24] for your your lives
[01:23:25] where they do a lot of
[01:23:28] um disaster and
[01:23:30] monster movies usually
[01:23:31] and um they covered
[01:23:33] twisters recently they
[01:23:35] had a episode on trap
[01:23:37] the m night shamalan one
[01:23:39] that we were just
[01:23:39] talking about
[01:23:40] which is excellent
[01:23:41] and um they had an
[01:23:43] episode they do creative
[01:23:44] things sometimes they had
[01:23:46] outtakes and bloopers of
[01:23:48] their own podcast
[01:23:49] oh fun
[01:23:50] they had one a little
[01:23:51] while back the worst
[01:23:52] movies we've covered
[01:23:53] which i kind of love
[01:23:54] excellent
[01:23:55] so yeah if you're into
[01:23:58] those kind of things you
[01:23:58] should definitely check
[01:23:59] them out
[01:23:59] that's really really cool
[01:24:02] uh this episode is made
[01:24:03] possible by patreon
[01:24:04] supporters like kate
[01:24:05] harvey who pledges their
[01:24:06] support at patreon.com
[01:24:08] slash jason cabassi so
[01:24:09] thank you to kate who is
[01:24:11] super cool
[01:24:12] uh i published our
[01:24:14] exclusive zed head show
[01:24:16] podcast with our top five
[01:24:18] favorite rick grimes
[01:24:19] moments featuring me
[01:24:20] danielle de met jost and
[01:24:23] renee and uh it was
[01:24:24] actually kind of intense
[01:24:25] because rick is all our
[01:24:27] three favorite characters
[01:24:29] and we all have strongly
[01:24:31] held opinions and we
[01:24:32] don't always agree so
[01:24:34] but uh i think it was
[01:24:36] really fun and interesting
[01:24:37] i think that sounds excellent
[01:24:40] and i can't wait to listen
[01:24:41] to it
[01:24:41] all right that is our
[01:24:43] show thanks for listening
