[00:00:00] Hey everybody, welcome to our podcast. I'm Greg and I'm Penny. And this is the Extraordinary
[00:00:30] Cast, a podcast dedicated to the Hulu and Disney Plus series, Extraordinary, created
[00:00:35] by Emma Moran. This episode we're covering season two, episode four, Ready to Rumble,
[00:00:41] written by Emma Moran and directed by Toby McDonald. Ready to rumble! Which is funny
[00:00:49] because many people of this age bracket may not necessarily remember where Ready to Rumble
[00:00:56] comes from. Yeah, I was never a big wrestling fan. Were you a wrestling fan in the 80s?
[00:01:01] In the 80s I was, but I mean in the 80s I was like 10. So like at the end of the
[00:01:05] 80s I was 10. So yes, I watched the WWF with Hulk Hogan and Randy the Macho Man
[00:01:12] Savage and the Ultimate Warrior and Jim Hacksaw Dugan and Jake the Snake,
[00:01:20] wait Jake the Snake Plumber? Plumber? I think maybe it was Plumber. Yeah. But yeah,
[00:01:25] no, yes, I did not, like I was not in the heyday of The Rock and you know when it got
[00:01:34] bigger and it became WWE. I think I lost interest where in my opinion people start to like go out
[00:01:45] and do things. Age bracket, so where I went it was like okay I could sit and watch this or I
[00:01:52] could having said that I did really enjoy The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Oh the Netflix show. No,
[00:02:01] the actual one when it was on TV I remember watching it because that was right in my wrestling
[00:02:09] heyday when I was eight or nine and which is why GLOW, the show, the Netflix show really
[00:02:17] hit a sweet spot for me because it was really good. And I also really really enjoy Alison Brie
[00:02:24] and Jenna McCracken I think her name is from 30 Rock, maybe not McCracken, something. And
[00:02:33] then Mark Maroon was Mark Maroon? Yeah, it's Maroon. Okay, Mark Maroon was the, he was like
[00:02:44] the director. Yeah, I didn't watch wrestling in the 80s and didn't care about it. I watched
[00:02:49] GLOW because of Alison Brie and Mark Maroon and I liked it well enough but at no point was the
[00:02:56] wrestling the attraction for me. I just don't really understand the appeal of it either regular
[00:03:02] real actual wrestling like you see at the Olympics or you know the show kind of wrestling
[00:03:08] like the WWE, it just doesn't appeal to me. Yeah, I mean like that's actually just funny
[00:03:13] because I know that Ben, our friend Ben has talked a little bit about it and how nowadays the
[00:03:20] wrestling is about a story and it's like here's the beginning of the story, here's the end of
[00:03:25] the story. Like to me I never really paid attention to the story. I was just like when's
[00:03:29] the wrestling going to start? And then when it did it would go on forever. Like the matches
[00:03:35] were like 12-15 minutes which is a really long time to like go watch UFC. There's a reason
[00:03:42] those rounds are three minutes. I mean it's exhausting, it's exhausting to watch but yeah
[00:03:48] like it but now it has evolved into a storytelling medium and you know if that works
[00:04:00] okay like if you enjoy it fantastic good on you. I will probably never watch that for
[00:04:07] the drama of it again. I get plenty of drama in my regular life, I don't need it. Tell me about it.
[00:04:15] All right so like this one and first off I want to apologize we've been
[00:04:22] I'm not going to say lacking we just had some various scheduling issues and trying to get
[00:04:28] these out and we'll try to be a little bit better get a couple of these under our belts
[00:04:34] in the next week or so. I mean I really do want to watch more of the season and I have to hold
[00:04:41] off to watch it until we podcast on them. Yeah exactly. All right so we'll start with a recap
[00:04:49] our beleaguered flatmates attend Nora's book launch party where the dress code is beige.
[00:04:57] Jin decides to be the most obnoxious version of herself to push Nora's buttons.
[00:05:02] Jizzle tries to reconnect with his best mate Chris. Cash seeks inspiration and Carrie
[00:05:09] tries to flirt. That about sums it up. It does it sums it up. How do you like this one?
[00:05:20] Better than last one but okay so first of all last time I was kind of complaining about how
[00:05:30] the episode relied on a couple of penis jokes and then I watched this episode immediately after
[00:05:39] we recorded and I was and it's like the opening scene is that dildo storage facility
[00:05:47] space with all the dildos in it and the disco ball dildo and the lights and everything
[00:05:52] and I was like oh another penis joke like I just it's just weak but I will say that if you're
[00:06:00] gonna have a room full of dildos as a set piece on a tv show like they really knocked
[00:06:07] that out of the park. That was quite a room. They nailed it. I mean it was I did laugh at
[00:06:14] it. I laughed especially when the music started and the lights came on that that made the scene
[00:06:23] for me and my note on this is pawn wars storage unit and then dick feature display. All right
[00:06:34] yeah that's pretty much the end of it. Yeah but so so like you like this one better than
[00:06:41] last episode but uh it still doesn't have the zing of season one. I'm I still feel like it's
[00:06:47] falling a little flat and that um there's not enough going on. I can see that um and
[00:06:56] and we'll get into it when we get into our points but for me I didn't like so I liked
[00:07:04] aspects of the episode and that I'll get into um but I would say that there are certain
[00:07:10] aspects to it like certain almost like key aspects to the episode that I really just
[00:07:19] not just fell flat but like made me go like I thought that cash's jingle was funny until it
[00:07:29] wasn't. Yeah it went on too long. Yeah it was the family guy of jokes. Yeah it just kept going
[00:07:36] and you're we're supposed to believe that cash is that incapable of reading a room. He obviously
[00:07:45] can't read Carrie but this is what he thought was a good idea. I just I feel like they have
[00:07:50] completely and utterly dumbed down cash. Yeah. This season between the reorganize reorganizing
[00:07:57] the stationary uh cabinet and then this it's just like oh I have to go return you know
[00:08:04] concert uh concert or grade instruments it's like I'm 4k in the hole. Yeah like where did he
[00:08:13] where did he get four thousand pounds from? Like I don't understand like I really just don't get
[00:08:17] but anyway. Yeah it wasn't it wasn't remotely believable and the Clark guy doesn't seem
[00:08:26] like a total moron so why was he so like supportive of cash's stupid plan?
[00:08:33] So he like Clark bugged me in general. Like I thought he was good two weeks ago
[00:08:41] but then this one I just feel like I feel like he's being not underutilized probably
[00:08:49] poorly utilized. I feel like there are so many jokes you can make about that especially I mean
[00:08:55] because like you can see like the disgust on some of the Clark's faces and then you could
[00:09:00] just you could make that into a bit but we don't but all right so yeah I enjoyed this one
[00:09:07] more than last week. As you said I don't think it has the sharpness of of writing as
[00:09:13] as the first season but all right so before we get in our points we're going to take a quick break
[00:09:20] and then we'll be right back. Stay with us. All right and we're back and getting into our points
[00:09:27] or not points but our plot lines right. I think there was only one real humiliation of
[00:09:34] the week this week. I mean reading erotic merman porn in front of a bunch of classy people
[00:09:44] like that's gotta be I don't know for Jen is that really embarrassing like the Jen
[00:09:50] loves the chaos right. I think the real embarrassing moment for her was I think she
[00:09:57] could hear Nora when Nora was like Jen can't hear this but let's give her a pity clap.
[00:10:02] I like I don't know if she could or not. It's it's not clear but the pity clap killed me. I was
[00:10:09] like oh my god. Nora is a master at this like this passive aggressive underhanded sneaky
[00:10:19] bitchy behavior. So let's get into Jen and Nora. Yeah all right so let's let's uh like
[00:10:26] this is uh I mean so the Jen Nora storyline basically comes at oh you know oh we have
[00:10:36] who sends us actual post. He actually sends us mail. Yeah. Oh oh it's a invitation to Nora's
[00:10:44] book launch. All right I'll just tell her we're busy. Oh no my best my new my best mate Chris
[00:10:50] might be there we have to go. Oh well I mean you know she's not that she's great and he's like
[00:10:56] well you know some people may that she may not be as nice as you think she is.
[00:11:00] Are you comparing Nora to Osama Bin Laden? No just say she may not be as nice as you
[00:11:05] think she is. Like some people are nice on the outside and on the inside they're a
[00:11:09] churning hot tub of venom and shit. I was like okay yeah fair enough um and whose dress
[00:11:19] coat is beige? Oh my god so I have a thing about beige and I have for a really long time. I hate
[00:11:27] beige. I hate things that are supposed to be inoffensive like like hotel ballroom decor
[00:11:36] you know with like mauve and beige and dusty rose and gray and like just it makes my head
[00:11:44] hurt to be surrounded by like this is a act of not making a decision is how I feel about
[00:11:53] beige. It's like I'm in the middle of everything and I never commit and I never make a choice.
[00:12:00] And I am not going to make a stand ever. Yeah and it makes me like physically ill.
[00:12:06] That said the actual party looked really chic and cool with everybody wearing
[00:12:13] because they weren't wearing beige. They were wearing cream and white and brown and
[00:12:17] it actually looked really really good. Especially Carrie's outfit. Carrie was on fire.
[00:12:25] She looked so good. I uh but I hate beige and I love when Jen was trying to figure out
[00:12:31] what to wear and she said I don't have any beige clothes because my style icon is in a
[00:12:35] fucking baguette. That was so funny. It killed me. She did a pretty good job though actually like
[00:12:42] leopard print or cheetah print or whatever that was. I mean it was the right color palette.
[00:12:48] She just had those like hot pink accessories and stuff to make it a little over the top but
[00:12:53] I thought she fit in okay. Yeah well I mean I would not say that she went uh what
[00:13:00] what was she what did Nora call her? Pixie oh manic pixie dream slut yeah she like she did
[00:13:06] not go full-blown manic pixie dream slut. I mean she had she had like her bra showing
[00:13:14] the animal print she had this like hot pink belt and the pink bag and but really it was
[00:13:19] like she was trying to to be more annoying with her behavior you know like drinking too
[00:13:25] much and being loud and stuff like that. I don't think it was the best strategy. It's kind of
[00:13:31] Jen's go-to strategy. It's what she always does right? But here's here is my complaint
[00:13:41] to this aspect of the story. This is Jen's wheelhouse. She knows how to get under someone's
[00:13:53] skin. Yeah and you don't do it by pointing out how upset someone should be.
[00:14:02] You like this is insecure person who's going out of their way to piss somebody off.
[00:14:11] You do the dumb shit and you let it sit. Yeah you don't you don't call it out.
[00:14:18] You don't call you know bring attention to it. You just let the resentment build up and build
[00:14:25] up and build up until it overflows and they can't help themselves. But the instant that you say
[00:14:31] something and you call attention to it. That it all falls apart there's no more illusion.
[00:14:36] It gives everyone it gives the person who you're trying to frustrate the opportunity to see
[00:14:42] everything that's going on. Yeah and gives them ammunition. It's like oh so you're trying to
[00:14:47] ruin my night then it just makes Jen look bad to Jizzlord. It gave Nora the opening
[00:14:55] to say to him like you know look what she's doing she's ruining everything and
[00:15:00] and we've seen Jen ruin someone's night before. She did it to her sister and to Carrie
[00:15:09] and to Carrie very effectively. She was not that good.
[00:15:17] Basically it was like I felt it was out of character. She went so over the top
[00:15:26] that it was I felt it was out of character because as I said this being an irritating
[00:15:33] bitch is Jen's specialty and she didn't get good at it and then all of a sudden when it's
[00:15:39] important just suck at it. Yeah and I felt that I felt like that was poorly written
[00:15:44] and it wasn't like a situation in a TV show where you're like no don't make this decision
[00:15:51] no you know Saul don't turn around to go check on Chuck. It's stupid don't do it just
[00:15:59] and like he's having a moral crisis and he goes to you know and he makes the decision
[00:16:03] you're like oh god I know how this is going to turn out poorly. This was just over the top.
[00:16:09] Yeah this was obvious and sort of tacky. Exactly yeah I thought it was poorly done.
[00:16:14] Yeah well that was poorly executed. I think it was a great idea and I just didn't agree with
[00:16:18] the the writing choice. Yeah it wasn't funny enough either. Yeah having said that I mean I
[00:16:25] did think that the that Magnet Girls porn was oh that was hilarious. I thought it was
[00:16:31] Magnet Girl. Magnet Girl was a highlight of this episode. She was great when she turned those
[00:16:37] trays over and she's like oh fuck like it never occurred to her that the food would fall on the
[00:16:41] floor like yeah she's such a dingbat but she's she's so pure and she's herself when she comes
[00:16:48] out of the bathroom stall and she's like oh my god kiss and you it made me remember when
[00:16:53] she did that in season one and how funny it was and like uh yeah I love Magnet Girl we
[00:16:58] could I can't get enough of her. Yeah again like she was I thought she was very well written in
[00:17:05] this. And Gavin. I liked Gavin a lot. Gavin was hilarious where he's like oh I like a 4B pencil.
[00:17:12] I know I'm such a drama queen. I was like oh this guy's perfect for Carrie. Right. Like
[00:17:18] oh my god I hope she stays with him and then of course she screws it up but. Well
[00:17:24] with Jen's influence right it was it was hey you at the end I did think it was really funny that
[00:17:30] Jen I guess we've moved off of Jen and Nora were just talking about things that we liked.
[00:17:35] That Jen specifically like she broke down the loser and winner in a breakup
[00:17:44] like very well by a complex matrix of hierarchical values and social values and I
[00:17:50] was like that's actually very very smart and then what if he's an Ugo. It's just like yeah oh
[00:17:58] there it is. Yeah there it is. It wouldn't have mattered if he were. That wasn't the point of
[00:18:06] what was going on there she really distracted Carrie from the goal of trying to prove to
[00:18:12] cash something like she's moved on or. Like she ruined Carrie's night just by being Jen. Yeah.
[00:18:23] Like it could that could have gone much better had Carrie not asked Jen for advice or Jen just
[00:18:29] been like oh oh that was the other thing. Oh I could write a book but you haven't. Yes I have.
[00:18:35] That's a fucking stupid response. Yeah. Like it's like. It's so easy to prove.
[00:18:43] Yeah it's just I just thought it was and I get it Jen's flustered and she just had this
[00:18:49] horrific looking eight-year-old beer that was like I honest to God gagged the second time.
[00:18:58] Yeah I don't know how she downed that. That was nasty. Yeah that was bad. But why?
[00:19:05] Honestly she already had booze. Like why did she feel the need to grab that booze and drink it
[00:19:11] is beyond me. She was hit she was like if this had been a boxing match she was scoring points
[00:19:17] points on Nora. I can do whatever I want. I can go to the bar. I can drink a lot. I
[00:19:25] can go to the bar on a Tuesday because I don't have shit to do the next day. It doesn't
[00:19:28] matter. I'm unburdened. I'm young. I'm child free. Exactly. All of those were good hits.
[00:19:33] Yeah oh those were I mean those were solid hits. Oh I'm blessed to have a full schedule.
[00:19:40] Yeah like she scored on Nora a number of times and then like don't get me wrong like
[00:19:48] the belly full of bad beer would you know it can affect you. Like you can it can be bad.
[00:19:54] But barfing on the books was a nice touch. It was a good touch and the conversation between
[00:20:01] them like oh oh Jen that'll really show me puking your guts up in the bathroom all night. I'm not
[00:20:07] gonna puke in the bathroom. Like no you don't. Oh are you upset about all your sticky books? I
[00:20:14] mean come on. Yeah. Like you just go oh I'm so sorry. Oh I mean like yeah like you you play
[00:20:22] it up and you say oh oh Nora you're so gracious. Oh thank you so much. Like you
[00:20:29] overplay that a lot. And get the barf on Nora come on. Mess up that beige
[00:20:36] fashion thing she's got going on. Yeah. But yeah like I just there was just so much
[00:20:43] over the top Jen that it really it took me out of it because I feel like she's
[00:20:47] not necessarily smarter but more cunning than that. Yeah. Like I again it felt like a first
[00:20:55] draft. It was like all the skeleton of a good of a great funny episode was there but like the
[00:21:03] jokes weren't landing and like everything just needed to be a little bit tightened up and a
[00:21:08] little elevated and yeah it hurts me to to say these things about this show because of
[00:21:16] how freaking good season one was. Yes it it feels like they're missing a step and
[00:21:25] and as much as I hate to say it it's not the acting it's the writing. Yeah. Or it's the
[00:21:30] directing who's choosing to make these decisions. So it's I hate to say that because I
[00:21:39] I do I want to enjoy it so much. It's really frustrating.
[00:21:44] So what about Jen and Nora? So I by the end of the episode Nora is kind of on top
[00:21:52] because she gets to plant this seed with Jizzlord that maybe Jen is a bad influence and
[00:21:58] you know he's like oh and he's looking around like yeah I really I can see that.
[00:22:04] Doesn't everybody get into crazy scheme and steal dogs at funerals?
[00:22:09] She's like no most people just have a nice life with their family and their friends.
[00:22:14] You know you can't have a life devoid of chaos and it's clear that that is Nora's goal in life
[00:22:22] right. It's like absolute control over every element of everything in her life and like
[00:22:27] her home is like that right there's like everything is perfect it looks like a
[00:22:32] magazine and her clothes always look perfect and it must be driving her crazy that her
[00:22:40] husband is so not under her control and you know it it seems like all she wants is to have him
[00:22:51] back under her control in in her house and but not out of love just because she wants a
[00:22:59] pretty picture of a nuclear family. So I don't even know that it's that like and just my
[00:23:05] take on it or maybe she just wants to beat Jen for the sake of yeah beating Jen that
[00:23:10] that was like that's the impression that I got from that introduction to her where you know I
[00:23:17] I was just gonna turn this idiot into a you know certified nanny service for that brat over
[00:23:25] there but because of you because of this I am going to take him and I'm going to fuck him
[00:23:33] and when I come I will come like a landmine. I was like oh man yes I know I liked it and
[00:23:39] I repeated the line because but like the all of this is to beat Jen in my opinion
[00:23:47] and if they back off on that then I mean but like then then maybe it'll maybe I
[00:23:54] misinterpret or whatever but I feel like it was a it was such a strong introduction to
[00:24:00] oh she's the villain this is her motivation and I'm ruining you just to ruin you.
[00:24:08] Yeah. Hopefully at some point we will see Jen smarten up and hopefully and not by accident get
[00:24:19] you know get Nora to reveal herself but I feel like that might be how it ends up going
[00:24:27] but I don't know yeah we'll see.
[00:24:34] I was going to talk about Magnic Girls fish porn it reminded me a little bit of
[00:24:45] The Shape of Water the Oscar-winning film by Guillermo del Toro from a few years ago which
[00:24:52] itself is a little bit like Creature from the Black Lagoon and it was pretty gross and creepy
[00:25:03] I thought the joke of having Chris have the ability to censor bad words was really well used.
[00:25:11] Yes I agree. To bleep a lot of what Jen was saying and then when she said Briny Fishcock
[00:25:17] and it didn't get bleeped and she's like I guess that guy left.
[00:25:21] I have a question. I have a question about Chris. Yeah. Was his ass censored too?
[00:25:29] Yeah. So like was that something for the show like initially I didn't catch it until
[00:25:34] the second time I was like wait is his butt in real life pixelated is that what's going on?
[00:25:40] I think so. You're like oh because they didn't censor like Adé's butt last year when he was
[00:25:46] stuck in the wall. I think that's part of his power. I mean is it a power or is it just
[00:25:51] something that happens because like oh I can't see your penis because it's all
[00:25:58] blanked out or all pixelated out. It's unclear to me if he has control over it. Control?
[00:26:03] I think it just happens. It's like the dentist lady who you know the music just happens
[00:26:08] when she's around. I did think that the yeah my power of censorship you know say a bad word.
[00:26:20] Rapist. Oh okay but then say a swear word. I don't know any swear. A pedophile. Oh no
[00:26:28] that's not still okay. I thought I did think that joke was funny. Yeah.
[00:26:34] Just look at it. When I first heard the bleeps I was a little bit confused. I was
[00:26:38] like wait what? What's happening? What's going on? Yeah so Giz Lord it starts when they you know
[00:26:46] they clean out his storage unit and he lays out all of his stuff in the kitchen in a very Wes
[00:26:53] Anderson style. You know with the camera coming over it from above and sort of cataloging all
[00:26:59] of his random stuff. I made a list a partial list of everything that we saw. Exercise equipment
[00:27:06] lots of different kinds of exercise equipment. Framed photo of him as a teenager real dorky
[00:27:10] looking. Another framed photo of him holding a trophy and then the trophy is there next to him
[00:27:16] and a bunch of badminton birdies so I assume it's a badminton trophy. Framed picture with his
[00:27:21] kid. Gloves hat. Souvenir from Australia with a koala bear on it. A bunch of different
[00:27:26] lanyards with IDs I assume from like different jobs or job sites. A waffle iron. Something
[00:27:32] that looked like a space heater. A bunch of shoes and slippers. A wedding photo. A map guide
[00:27:39] to Dorset. A hard hat. A wrestling gold belt but it looked like a souvenir one not a real
[00:27:48] like gold belt. A dumbbell. A travel mug. Some free weights. A bunch of clothes. Stereo
[00:27:53] speakers. Swim fins. Stickers. Desk toys. Architect tools like those three-sided rulers.
[00:28:02] A bunch of blueprints. A beer hat. Beer steins. Protein powder. Key chains. And a box labeled
[00:28:12] mom and dad which we find out has their ashes in it but he doesn't seem to understand what that is.
[00:28:18] And then there was this like leather sort of jewelry box looking box that had engraved on it
[00:28:23] best buds and it had a bunch of memorabilia of him and this guy Chris including a can
[00:28:30] labeled Robin Chris's brewery batch 17 which I assume means 2017 or maybe it's the 17th batch.
[00:28:38] I think it was 2017 yeah. And a picture of them at a wrestling experience where they're being like
[00:28:46] head what is that a head hold head headlocked by some giant wrestler dude.
[00:28:52] I thought it was very Wes Anderson the way that it was laid out and the way the camera
[00:28:56] panned over it from above but it didn't have the Wes Anderson
[00:29:02] voiceover narration that would have said what all the stuff was or the like
[00:29:09] like Wes Anderson style music. I just thought that was funny since
[00:29:14] a couple episodes ago Nora described their romance as a Wes Anderson story and I was
[00:29:21] like oh they're leaning into the Wes Anderson thing and then I was like but it really needs
[00:29:24] the voiceover like the voiceover sells it for me or like the other thing Wes Anderson does
[00:29:31] sometimes is have like a lot of labels so like everything would have been labeled.
[00:29:36] It was I don't know it was a cute assortment of stuff it looked like a kind of a boring
[00:29:41] sad life though it was like oh oh yeah yeah and everything was not colorful yeah it was
[00:29:46] drab everything was drab in color and so I didn't pick up on that mom and dad were
[00:29:54] in the two different containers I was thinking that he tasted the urn and then he was like oh
[00:30:00] we mixed up the banana and the the urn so the first one tasted like not banana and the second
[00:30:07] that was just me now that you say it was mom and dad oh that does make sense. There were
[00:30:11] two urns in the box when he opens the box you can see there's two urns in there I think
[00:30:15] the banana powder was just separate and he thought that ash has tasted better and so he
[00:30:21] put them in with the banana powder. I didn't really yeah I didn't I mean I thought it was
[00:30:24] funny but I was like uh okay yeah it was one of those things where I was like that's
[00:30:29] that's funnier in concept than when you actually see it because the idea of like
[00:30:34] mixing somebody's ashes together with protein powder is is not it's not actually funny
[00:30:41] right it just felt disrespectful maybe because I just watched a very emotional scene of
[00:30:48] someone spreading their family's ashes in the ocean and this by comparison to that is just
[00:30:57] seemed wrong. I get that I get that um uh so then yeah so then he he finds Chris right
[00:31:07] he finds a picture of Chris and he's the Chris is the whole reason they go to the book launch
[00:31:12] and uh and so they he goes and he finds them and like like oh we got so much to catch up on
[00:31:23] okay oh and then Jen gives him the awesome advice just uh trying to bond with him over
[00:31:29] some of y'all's stupid hobbies together like your common interests. Yeah men use hobbies
[00:31:34] to justify talking to each other. Yeah I was like you know actually that makes that makes a
[00:31:39] lot of sense um and so then of course yeah Jen sort of misunderstands this uh and so attempts to
[00:31:48] wrestle him to the ground he has to cooperate with my smackdown yeah and it was I mean it
[00:31:58] it was very like I thought it was funny in the way that the uh the cat show dance was funny
[00:32:06] it was kind of horrifying especially once you realize that Gis Lord's wearing no pants
[00:32:13] and then Chris is no wearing no pants uh I did think that but it but it just it was very
[00:32:19] out of place and there's something really different for me about a person
[00:32:27] horribly embarrassing themselves or embarrassing an innocent third person
[00:32:35] right like Gis Lord getting on the cat show stage with no pants on and doing that whole dance
[00:32:41] number was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. Gis Lord pantsing his
[00:32:47] best friend in front of a roomful of people just seemed mean. It seemed like nothing that
[00:32:58] is happening none of the lessons that he's learning none of the and he's not learning
[00:33:04] anything yeah it seems like he's just continuing he's still in I'm just man who turned into a cat
[00:33:12] for four years your world frightens and confuses me yeah it's I don't know it's been weeks yeah
[00:33:18] it's been yeah at least weeks like maybe once he should know not to start wrestling in
[00:33:24] the middle of a party right like yeah as his as Nora is reading from her book yeah and Chris
[00:33:29] is like stop and he doesn't stop I feel like Gis isn't enough of a of a jerk like he's a
[00:33:37] nice person that he wouldn't think hitting somebody else with a chair on a on stage in
[00:33:42] front of a bunch of other people during a party was I don't I don't see Gis Lord doing
[00:33:47] that right maybe I can see him doing that outside like Chris is leaving and he's like wait let's
[00:33:54] wrestle and then it happens well kind of like what they did with Alfie yeah out on the playground
[00:33:59] and they're you know they're doing stuff that he's like yay and then like oh oh god like I
[00:34:06] actually hurt you but my fault yeah and also yeah this is the same joke as we had with Alfie
[00:34:13] he wants to bond with him and he doesn't know how yeah um I mean now having said that on second
[00:34:20] watch I did watch and and I was like maybe Chris like depending on the type of person he is he
[00:34:28] could take him under his wing and be like we should hang out but let me just explain some
[00:34:32] things to you like I don't quite understand why Jen or Carrie hasn't done it Cash is just
[00:34:40] self-absorbed as fuck so like I get why Cash hasn't but um yeah I feel like Chris
[00:34:50] that was would have been a good opportunity to have real like teachable moments yeah Chris
[00:34:57] kind of seemed like a dingbat right he's like I haven't seen you in four years we should we
[00:35:02] should catch up and then you know Gis Lord's all awkward and Chris is like oh okay then and
[00:35:07] and like if they were really best friends wouldn't Chris be like so what do you remember
[00:35:13] and what happened and yeah there would actually be a and then he's like oh yeah Nora called me
[00:35:19] right away after she saw you and it's like and you didn't reach out to your best friend
[00:35:24] and be like dude you're back like there were just so many aspects of it that didn't
[00:35:31] yeah no I get what you're saying again yeah there were just things that could have been
[00:35:36] done differently that I think would have worked better and I'm not trying to pick this apart
[00:35:43] because as I said there were things I did really find like laugh out loud funny yeah but
[00:35:52] let me see what else do I have that's basically it with with Gis and and Chris
[00:35:58] basically Chris is like no I don't think we should ever we should be best mates again
[00:36:02] and just like oh yeah or me
[00:36:07] sad all right let's let's move on to Carrie and then I think we can wrap up cash in like
[00:36:12] 30 seconds yeah but uh all right so Carrie Carrie was the highlight of the episode for me
[00:36:18] watching her try to flirt was so adorable she doesn't know what she's doing the elaborate
[00:36:23] hypothetical questions is so funny because when she asks cash that one question I was like
[00:36:31] oh that's a good conversation starter I'm going to try that on on a date and then I was like
[00:36:35] oh that's meant to be an example of bad flirting never mind
[00:36:43] yeah like I I was waiting for it and I didn't even necessarily notice it until
[00:36:48] after she had said it I was like oh that's what Jen was talking about got it okay it's
[00:36:53] funny um it is funny and the pen pencil conversation with Gavin was adorable that
[00:37:00] that they were bonding really bonding about stationary because we know Carrie loves that stuff
[00:37:06] what kind of animal do you think or how big of an animal do you think you could kill with your
[00:37:10] bare hands what that's crazy and then Gavin responded to it it was fine yeah it worked
[00:37:17] yeah that they would have been a cute couple like bonding over pens and pencils and stuff
[00:37:22] um and I said it before but Carrie's outfit was fire she looked so sexy and
[00:37:29] chic and glamorous to me but she was still doing the the Carrie like posture thing
[00:37:37] where she's she's like a little bit awkward and she does this she bites her lower lip a lot
[00:37:42] to make herself look insecure it's so cute to me um I uh we love Carrie I love Carrie
[00:37:52] yep I identify with Carrie and her her issues at work where she ends up having to do all of
[00:38:00] Cash's work because he's such a doofus it's funny he gives that speech where he's like
[00:38:06] stifled by the nine-to-five life you know whatever he's been at that job for like three
[00:38:10] days and yeah it's like just do your job man he's like just do your job creatively stifled by
[00:38:16] completing these mindless tasks and I really wanted Carrie to say you haven't completed
[00:38:20] anything yeah you're supposed to be filing these from 2003 to 2005 yeah I don't see any
[00:38:27] filing happen but what if fuck you cash I just yeah what a freaking moron um yeah I hope
[00:38:38] Carrie I don't know if I want Carrie to necessarily find another boyfriend right away but I hope she
[00:38:44] finds some confidence or some some sense of self that's a little bit more I don't know
[00:38:56] I just love her I want the best for her yeah like Carrie continues to be the best part of
[00:39:02] this show the part that you can root for um even you know even outside of rooting against
[00:39:11] Nora with Jen yeah but Carrie's just as much as Jen is annoying and I am really glad she's not
[00:39:18] my friend Nora sucks yes Nora Nora is is horrible what's your excuse toxic positivity
[00:39:29] book I hate her in her beige party I hate Nora I hate everything about Nora she is the worst
[00:39:37] John Raffio um yeah yeah uh so I didn't understand this saying
[00:39:47] so so Carrie says why don't you just tell Jiz about Nora's like what she's really like
[00:39:53] and she's like oh he totally buys her butter wouldn't melt routine and I was like butter
[00:39:58] wouldn't melt it like she's an ice cube yeah it's um it's a sort of roundabout idiom that
[00:40:06] means that she pretends that she doesn't have an acid tongue but she does it's like uh it's
[00:40:13] a reference to being sharp or acidic in your speech so butter wouldn't melt means that she's
[00:40:20] like pretends to be all cool and calm but she's actually vicious and a churning hot tub
[00:40:28] of venom and shit yeah yeah I think it's I don't think it's an American idiom though I've heard it
[00:40:34] before but I think I've heard it in British TV shows yeah no I could I mean I had never heard
[00:40:39] it before um I did find it odd that uh this is the first time we've heard that Carrie has IBS
[00:40:46] yeah I think that was a throwaway joke yeah I mean like they both both she and what was
[00:40:53] the guy's name Clark they both have IBS yeah and they had that moment where they're like
[00:40:58] yeah and the music was like oh like they yeah and then cash cash is like oh hey can you play
[00:41:04] bass because I have uh an idea and I'm just like no oh god like his like that whole like at
[00:41:14] that point Carrie you say okay cash you are fired period you're fired I know that I need
[00:41:22] your money to pay our rent but you are fired yeah um or convince her boss that you know fire
[00:41:32] yeah like hey can I fire cash uh this is so okay let me just so let me just channel Fred
[00:41:40] Armisen from Parks and Rec oh you don't file the things on time fired oh you you don't uh
[00:41:49] you buy concert instruments and play instead of doing your job fired no you you go and you
[00:41:55] can't return the instruments so oh no right to being fired that's just the way that it is like
[00:42:02] like I just I there is nothing that he has done since he got that job
[00:42:09] that constitutes him earning 1500 pounds a month yeah 1500 pounds a month like and the
[00:42:18] fact that he would think that he was getting making 6000 pounds a month for doing nothing
[00:42:25] that's just it's just bonkers to me and I like to in US dollars so I'm going to check really
[00:42:32] so that well that would be 72 000 pounds a year um which makes a pound is about a dollar
[00:42:42] 25 30 yeah dollar 30 so that's around 100 000 dollars 90 000 dollars a year
[00:42:48] so I mean at 1500 pounds a month um so let's just say that it's that's 80 percent right so
[00:42:54] times 80 so that puts it around 1800 dollars a month yeah I mean not enough to live by but
[00:43:03] I mean look what you're doing you're doing literally nothing that's like what I made in
[00:43:09] the 90s um that's not a lot of money no it's not but no I made less than that in the 90s
[00:43:19] now that I'm looking at it but yeah yeah um yeah I want to say I probably made
[00:43:28] I mean that was probably about maybe a little bit more than I made in the 90s
[00:43:32] um like before I made enough poor choices to have to join the military but uh
[00:43:41] yeah so like I it's not a lot of money but it's enough for four friends to be able to
[00:43:48] you know afford an apartment in London um but so so I do want to bring up a couple of the
[00:43:55] powers that we saw um all right so we have Gavin who was invisible that's a that's a really
[00:44:01] formidable power apparently invisible as well which is amazing I was wondering if if he was
[00:44:09] the guy like the invisible guy that robbed him and her and cash uh in season one um oh yeah
[00:44:15] forgot about that but he's so he was really tall and that guy wasn't really tall yeah I
[00:44:21] because like cash like threw a shoe at him or something yeah um we saw somebody who's walking
[00:44:28] around in the office with just a like a rain cloud over their head I was like oh that would
[00:44:34] be a shitty power um we uh excuse me um you know we got we got Nora's telepathy
[00:44:44] um we didn't really get a whole ton of new power to kind of got them in the background
[00:44:50] yeah there was the black and white person yeah they like turned black and white until they
[00:44:55] joined with their significant other I guess yeah because she was black and white and then they
[00:44:58] came together and they were both in color yeah it didn't completely understand that power
[00:45:04] yeah um Chris's censorship power yep
[00:45:09] Clark's multiplying himself power which that's a really great power because each of the clerks
[00:45:15] seems to be functional a different personality too yeah it doesn't like some of them thought
[00:45:21] this is a stupid idea some of them thought it was great some of them were just like oh
[00:45:25] yeah let's do this thing um but uh all right so let me see if I if I I mean okay so we
[00:45:33] talked about cash I am my own muse yeah fuck off good luck with that oh my god
[00:45:43] and where is he getting this money is he still borrowing it from his mom um
[00:45:48] yeah is he just getting into horrible credit card debt it's it's unclear I guess yeah all
[00:45:53] right so uh oh Nora at one point says that Jen looks like Pat Butcher shat out
[00:46:01] of the teen section of River Island Pat Butcher is a longtime character on East Enders which is
[00:46:08] a very well known British soap opera that's been running for decades and River Island is
[00:46:13] a fast fashion chain I've bought one or two things from River Island they're sort of it's
[00:46:20] sort of like um Hot Topic or Forever 21 but okay British I did not know that Magnet Girl's
[00:46:27] name was Megan I didn't either um it's a good name for somebody with magnet powers Megan yeah
[00:46:32] that's why I was like oh that actually kind of fits um I did think that Magnet Girl was the
[00:46:37] you know she stole every scene that she was in yeah when she was reading along with the
[00:46:42] the reading I was just like mouthing along with the reading I was like that is exactly
[00:46:48] how a fan fiction writer would be hearing their their art display yeah that's exactly what they
[00:46:56] would be like and she had those amazing seahorse earrings that at first I just noticed them and
[00:47:02] was like oh those are cute and then once you hear the fan fiction you're like oh she's into
[00:47:06] ocean stuff ew those are creepy now like that was fantastic and I'll tell you what good for
[00:47:13] Megan and Gavin hooking up at the end yeah you know what I'm good for them that was kind of gross
[00:47:18] to watch and it made me really impressed with that actor of how she was miming making out
[00:47:25] with an invisible person and it was pretty believable yeah and I was like I really feel
[00:47:32] like I'm watching her this is gross I hope they don't show them have sex like
[00:47:37] that's a lot of mouth um yeah it was I mean I thought yeah I thought it was it was pretty
[00:47:44] pretty good so I mean that's that's about all I have yeah me too I don't need to to go much
[00:47:53] much deeper uh all right so uh so we're not really doing we haven't got any feedback
[00:48:01] because we're not timely and uh I mean we've gotten gotten feedback but uh we have we have
[00:48:06] failed you guys and that's that's our bad um but if you want to say you know say anything
[00:48:11] about certain episodes or whatever then uh I know that uh Jade has sent in a voicemail for
[00:48:16] episode six and I can't wait to get to it oh excellent um but uh yeah so I'm looking
[00:48:21] forward to that but uh for the time being um that's our show thanks a lot and uh we will
[00:48:29] hopefully get this out relatively soon yeah and if you'd like to get in touch or send us
[00:48:34] some feedback about anything you can find or fan fiction yeah oh yeah we'd love some fan fiction
[00:48:40] uh you can find all of our contact information at podcastica.com you can find links to our
[00:48:48] social media pages and other shows um I will tell you that uh I've fallen fallen into the
[00:48:56] fallout hole oh yeah which I guess into the vault of a fallout whatever um like this that
[00:49:02] show is phenomenal and I know that uh that Ben and Jason did just did a one episode Wilhelm
[00:49:09] I think it was the cast of us crossover that was uh that covered it and I I can't wait to
[00:49:15] finish the show so I can listen to the podcast the show is phenomenal yeah I haven't
[00:49:19] finished the show yet but I will get there I have been recently just obsessed with Shogun
[00:49:26] and there is a plan afoot to do a podcast coverage of the entire series of Shogun
[00:49:34] more to come watch this space all that stuff and Greg and I were just guests on Welcome to
[00:49:40] the Apocalypse I don't know when that episode is going to come out but if you aren't listening
[00:49:45] to Welcome the Apocalypse and you like this silly nonsense of extraordinary you should check
[00:49:51] out Welcome to the Apocalypse it is very very silly and a lot of fun yeah it is it is very
[00:49:56] funny it is a an improv podcast and I'll be honest you know it was a little nerve-racking
[00:50:04] for the first you know little bit I definitely felt like I didn't necessarily carry my weight
[00:50:09] but oh that's how I felt too but it was really fun yeah yeah it was it was a blast to make
[00:50:15] and if you like what we're doing give us a five star rating please review like follow
[00:50:20] subscribe all that other stuff it really helps other listeners find us and it makes me and Greg
[00:50:26] feel all warm and fuzzy ah yes I love the tingles which is why I watch ASMR videos because
[00:50:34] it helps me sleep next time on this show we'll be covering season two oh fan fiction about
[00:50:40] ASMR videos there we go boom nailed it crossover complete sorry uh next time on this
[00:50:47] show we covering season two episode five meet the parents is that maybe Carrie's parents
[00:50:53] maybe cash's parents I don't know yeah it could be any parent so many options I hope it's
[00:51:00] Jen's parents because Jen's parents are hilarious but until next time we leave you to ponder
[00:51:07] this question what section of IKEA would you use as a defensive base in a zombie apocalypse
