[00:00:00] What the bloody hell is this?

[00:00:09] Up that?

[00:00:10] Well it's your punishment.

[00:00:14] It's a caging spell.

[00:00:16] It keeps you in this town.

[00:00:21] My kingdom.

[00:00:24] Can't leave, not in a car, not in a boat, not in a plane, not on a train and definitely

[00:00:30] definitely not through a mirror.

[00:00:32] Your little ghosts are so tricky.

[00:00:35] Unacceptable.

[00:00:36] Kindly remove it.

[00:00:37] We cannot stay here.

[00:00:39] It is dangerous.

[00:00:41] Oh, Edwin, what was you just said to me?

[00:00:46] I don't see the harm in one little spell.

[00:00:51] Look it comes right off as soon as you make me happy.

[00:00:58] Then what would make you happy?

[00:01:00] I'm fairly sure we could figure something out.

[00:01:08] Hey listeners, welcome to the show.

[00:01:25] I'm Jamie.

[00:01:26] And I'm Mark.

[00:01:28] And this is a spoiler full podcast for Dead Boy Detectives Season 1 Episode 2 The Case

[00:01:34] of the Dandelion Shrine.

[00:01:36] Do you want to do the synopsis?

[00:01:38] I'll do it.

[00:01:39] Yeah, trapped in a sleepy Washington town, the detectives take on a local case helping

[00:01:44] crystals quirky housemate Nico get rid of her paranormal parasites.

[00:01:50] Yeah, to me honestly this episode looked to me like the exorcist at certain points.

[00:01:56] It's a little cuter than the exorcist.

[00:01:59] It is cuter in a sense.

[00:02:01] It's like with all the goopy and even though Charles was making noises or faces at the

[00:02:08] book's look of what they did, but we'll get into that.

[00:02:12] It made me laugh and I'm like really?

[00:02:14] I think whatever going around Nico is pretty and fun.

[00:02:17] Even when she pukes it's pretty.

[00:02:19] Yeah, exactly.

[00:02:20] It's all rainbows.

[00:02:21] It's all multicolors.

[00:02:24] It's like something out of Roger Rabbit.

[00:02:29] I actually enjoyed this episode.

[00:02:31] I thought it was cute.

[00:02:32] We got to meet Nico.

[00:02:34] We got to know who she is, which is awesome.

[00:02:36] I think that's a cool aspect of it.

[00:02:40] But we do get to meet something that is interesting in us that I wanted to bring up to you.

[00:02:45] Have we ever met this cat king before?

[00:02:48] I don't believe so.

[00:02:49] In comics or anything?

[00:02:52] Not that I'm aware of.

[00:02:53] He is the answer to the dream of a thousand cats.

[00:02:56] Apparently.

[00:02:57] And he is a thing for Edwin.

[00:02:59] I mean, I get that.

[00:03:01] He likes to cute boys.

[00:03:03] But apparently he could turn from a cat to a guy and change and he's got powers.

[00:03:08] So it's pretty cool.

[00:03:10] His eyes I like really like the fact that they give him those cat's eyes.

[00:03:14] Yeah.

[00:03:15] And he's able to cast spells even on ghosts, which is interesting.

[00:03:19] Cool.

[00:03:19] And he basically traps Edwin with the bracelet.

[00:03:24] It looks like a cat.

[00:03:25] So and he goes, oh, to get out of the spell, you have to count all the cats in the town.

[00:03:30] Yeah, I think we're going to be in Port Townsend for quite a while.

[00:03:33] I think so, too.

[00:03:34] But they haven't even really began to count cats if you realize within this episode.

[00:03:39] Well, I mean, that's impossible.

[00:03:40] Yeah.

[00:03:41] There's ones in people's houses.

[00:03:42] You don't know how many are in a house.

[00:03:44] Like that's an impossible task.

[00:03:45] Exactly.

[00:03:46] And I think they're going to wind up breaking the spell some other way.

[00:03:50] I've not watched ahead, everybody, but I.

[00:03:53] But I honestly love the idea that it's a way to trap them into some place,

[00:03:59] especially in America.

[00:04:01] And and it's on Crystal's turf, if you think about it.

[00:04:04] And we're touching on Edwin's sexuality, too.

[00:04:08] Yeah, they haven't said anything, but they've hinted at him

[00:04:12] kind of having a crush, a crush on somebody yet when he was in school

[00:04:16] or I went over my head.

[00:04:19] See, I felt like he was having

[00:04:21] I felt like he had a crush on Charles, and that's why he was getting very upset

[00:04:24] when Crystal showed up like he didn't want to share him.

[00:04:28] Interesting.

[00:04:29] I think I don't think he's even fully aware of it yet.

[00:04:32] Well, I don't know.

[00:04:34] I could be reading into this wrong, but that's how I was reading.

[00:04:36] But yeah, it was kind of a lute to and I kind of brushed it off

[00:04:41] because it was like one of those innuendo things.

[00:04:44] And I'm like, whatever.

[00:04:45] And even kind of Charles kind of brushed it off in his own way.

[00:04:49] But I mean, both of them are from a time where a long time ago,

[00:04:54] we're being gay is less accepted than it is right now.

[00:04:57] Very true.

[00:04:58] Huh? Charles slightly less so.

[00:05:00] But but I mean, still it was, you know, the 80s when he passed away.

[00:05:05] And that was, you know, AIDS and everything else.

[00:05:08] Like it was still taboo, very taboo to be gay compared to now.

[00:05:14] Well, these were more 90s than 80s, but still.

[00:05:17] Well, 80s was taboo.

[00:05:20] Yes, for that.

[00:05:22] And Edwin's from so far back that.

[00:05:25] Well, that might be why he was so ostracized at school

[00:05:29] and reserved or why he was picked out to for a sacrifice, maybe.

[00:05:33] Yeah, I think I.

[00:05:34] And just the way the cat king is like, you know, you fascinate me.

[00:05:39] Like, I think he can see a little bit more, you know, cats.

[00:05:42] You know, they say cats can see into your soul or whatever.

[00:05:44] I think the cat king can see into Edwin.

[00:05:47] I think it also steal your soul if you sleep.

[00:05:50] Yeah.

[00:05:53] That's something else, everybody, if you watched cat, what was it?

[00:05:56] Cat's eyes, Stephen King.

[00:05:58] I forgot. Oh yeah.

[00:06:02] But I feel like there is a little bit of and I could be reading this wrong,

[00:06:06] but I feel like we might be getting a little bit into Edwin's sexuality at some point.

[00:06:11] I feel like that's.

[00:06:12] Yeah, he's a little I feel he's a little repressed.

[00:06:14] I feel I mean, and it makes sense for who he is and when he was and all of that.

[00:06:21] So you think his anger towards Crystal is more of his jealousy

[00:06:24] because of the attention he's given towards Crystal?

[00:06:27] That Charles. Oh yeah. OK.

[00:06:29] Yeah, I thought that from the very, very beginning.

[00:06:33] He definitely was like, I don't want to share my toy.

[00:06:37] Ha ha ha ha.

[00:06:39] My son has this book that says we are and it has in parentheses, not friends.

[00:06:45] And it's about a new friend wanting to play with two with this other

[00:06:48] with these two other kids and one or they're not kids.

[00:06:52] They're like little animals and one animal was like, oh, yeah, sure.

[00:06:54] I play with us and then the other animals like getting really super jealous

[00:06:57] and it just played so much like that.

[00:07:00] And like in the end, like the one animal is like, I you we are not friends.

[00:07:05] And he's like, you know, he is not our friend.

[00:07:07] He's like, he's our new friend and you're my best friend.

[00:07:10] Like we can all hang out together.

[00:07:12] Like it's going to be fine.

[00:07:13] But like it totally reminded me of that story.

[00:07:16] It's very common and doesn't have to be in a homosexual.

[00:07:20] It's any any sexual relationship or sexual attraction relationship, I should say.

[00:07:26] It's always like that.

[00:07:28] Could be friendship, love, interest, crush or anything like that.

[00:07:32] I've noticed in all that because I've been in that aspect

[00:07:35] where I was given attention to somebody that I was really interested in.

[00:07:38] A friend who was female was all into me and I couldn't understand it

[00:07:42] and then was one of those things.

[00:07:44] It's like, you, you like her more than you like me.

[00:07:48] It's like, oh my goodness.

[00:07:50] But it's I'm sure this will erupt into something later on

[00:07:54] in the season or maybe at the end of the season

[00:07:59] because sometimes they have a way of doing that with plot twist.

[00:08:02] And maybe this was their kind of innuendo to that whole situation.

[00:08:06] And Neil Gaiman has always been very progressive with his story lines

[00:08:12] and always had. Oh, yes. Always always had gay characters.

[00:08:15] And yeah. Well, if you look at Sam and one of the cast members,

[00:08:20] as we know, desire, was it?

[00:08:23] Well, yeah, desires and very androgynous.

[00:08:26] Yeah. But there's also later story lines where there's

[00:08:30] trans people and that was very progressive for the 80s.

[00:08:35] Yeah, well, at that time, was it the 80s or late late 80s, early 90s?

[00:08:40] I forget exactly which one when this one came out.

[00:08:42] So somewhere in that time frame, I would say late 80s, early 90s.

[00:08:45] So that at that point that was OK.

[00:08:48] And with Gaiman's writing during that time,

[00:08:52] even in comic book form, it was more of the goth scene at that time.

[00:08:57] And people were more attracted to that and that kind of appealed towards that,

[00:09:01] even with sexuality within goth culture and things of that nature.

[00:09:05] I've understood it.

[00:09:07] It was kind of it's like if I went to Aight Street, New York City

[00:09:11] back in the 80s and 90s, it's like, oh, don't go there.

[00:09:13] Why? Because it's like a mix of everything between hard rock

[00:09:16] and sexuality and everything else.

[00:09:19] But I think that I mean, that's what I'm saying.

[00:09:22] There were pockets where it was acceptable, but to see it in a DC

[00:09:27] comic book for lack of a better.

[00:09:29] I mean, I know it's Vertigo, but still an offshoot of DC.

[00:09:33] Well, Vertigo was always edgy.

[00:09:35] Yeah, kind of like Dark Horse was for Marvel at one point

[00:09:40] because that was a spinoff.

[00:09:41] Yeah, but it was still something big at that time.

[00:09:45] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:09:46] And honestly, that's how Gaiman always writes at this point.

[00:09:51] He's always been very, very inclusive.

[00:09:53] Yeah, if you read what was it?

[00:09:57] Well, good omen slightly, but American Gods.

[00:10:02] Yep. Very much like that, too.

[00:10:03] If you read that book, everybody.

[00:10:05] So I love that book.

[00:10:06] It's one of my favorites.

[00:10:07] Yeah, it's a signed copy of it now.

[00:10:10] Oh, so do I.

[00:10:11] I have it's so funny, too, because I keep trying to add

[00:10:15] to that collection of stuff that he could sign.

[00:10:17] But I think it has to do with the progressive nature of him

[00:10:21] and his writing overall.

[00:10:23] And it's acceptance of everybody in every sexuality perspective,

[00:10:29] even in like religion, too, if you look at what he does

[00:10:32] within his writing for between Good Omens, American Gods,

[00:10:37] this and any other adaptation that he's done that we get.

[00:10:41] And a lot of people are accepting of these days, which is very good.

[00:10:45] And I do love the fact that the culture is catching up.

[00:10:49] And then young readers are able to embrace it and then watch this stuff, too.

[00:10:53] And break it down like we do.

[00:10:55] So my niece is actually I convinced her to read American Gods.

[00:11:02] So she's she's in college now.

[00:11:04] So she's like, oh, I could I could read this now.

[00:11:07] It's more edgy while you read all the walking dead comics when you like 12.

[00:11:12] Unfortunately, I was a bad influence.

[00:11:15] And and the fact that she's playing bass guitar now, too.

[00:11:19] Well, she's been playing bass for years.

[00:11:21] But the fact is, is that, you know, it's more acceptable nowadays.

[00:11:26] And I would love for a kid to put out a paper about Neil Gaiman

[00:11:30] in high school or college or anything.

[00:11:32] Oh, I'm sure plenty have.

[00:11:33] I'm sure they have to.

[00:11:34] But it's got to be through influence of parents

[00:11:38] who grew up with that culture, you know?

[00:11:40] Yeah. It's like, oh, this was the cool stuff when I was a kid.

[00:11:43] Well, dad, mom, no, no, no.

[00:11:46] This is kind of ordinary.

[00:11:48] Then they would do like they'll get into it slightly.

[00:11:51] But for the time it was edgy.

[00:11:53] But back to the episode itself

[00:11:57] because we kind of digress a little as we always do.

[00:12:00] As we always do.

[00:12:01] Um, I just love the fact that, you know, we do get the cat king.

[00:12:06] It's our first.

[00:12:08] We only get to see him in the very beginning and we see him

[00:12:10] towards the end a little bit maybe.

[00:12:12] Yeah, but we're going to have to see him again because the only one

[00:12:16] that can get that curse that can remove that bracelet is the cat king.

[00:12:21] Like the spell can only be undone by the caster.

[00:12:24] So we're not done with the cat king.

[00:12:26] Yeah, there was two things that could do.

[00:12:28] He could actually count the cats or he could actually, well, you know,

[00:12:32] get with the cat king and give him pleasure.

[00:12:36] That doesn't necessarily mean anything sexual.

[00:12:38] It could just be any pleasurable thing that the cat king wants

[00:12:42] could be an intellectual conversation.

[00:12:46] Could be adding another body for the cats to all eat.

[00:12:49] Well, that too. Yeah, but he's a ghost.

[00:12:53] But then we do find out and I put it in my notes, too,

[00:12:57] which is pretty interesting to find out that cat scratches are like poison

[00:13:01] to ghosts. Yeah.

[00:13:02] That's an interesting take.

[00:13:04] So it's a little bit more information that we do get out of the show

[00:13:07] and these characters and how they are within this world.

[00:13:11] Yeah, we keep learning a lot.

[00:13:12] Yeah, and we do learn a little bit more about Edwin and Charles

[00:13:15] and that's where those ghosts where they stand a little bit more

[00:13:19] information as for the people who are tracking them.

[00:13:22] And I really enjoyed that.

[00:13:25] I love the fact that we do get a mail call from the mysterious man,

[00:13:28] but it's not really a male, the mysterious man.

[00:13:30] I think this is just the postal guy.

[00:13:33] We get this is the postal guy they mentioned before.

[00:13:35] Yeah, now we've seen him.

[00:13:37] Yeah, which is kind of cool.

[00:13:38] Like we heard about him in the last episode

[00:13:40] and now we've actually seen him like he just pops up and he's like, here you go, guys.

[00:13:44] He's like the postal guy for Mr. Rogers.

[00:13:46] Yeah.

[00:13:49] Mr. Healy, right?

[00:13:50] Yeah, exactly.

[00:13:51] Yeah, they get message to check out a magic shop locally,

[00:13:54] which is pretty interesting just after, you know, Edwin gets his bracelet.

[00:13:58] And the owner tells Edwin the bracelet can only be taken off

[00:14:01] by the cashier as well as we talked about.

[00:14:03] The owner of the shop with apparently goes into this whole thing

[00:14:05] about I was a walrus in a past life.

[00:14:08] I wanted the rest of that story.

[00:14:10] Same here.

[00:14:11] I want to know how someone goes from being King Walrus to this magic shop,

[00:14:16] which I guess is a supernatural magic shop.

[00:14:18] It has to be.

[00:14:19] But I first they don't take crystal with them.

[00:14:22] But it sounds to me that he is either he's not a ghost.

[00:14:26] He's probably reincarnated and he could still see ghosts and witches

[00:14:30] and witches because Esther is there later on.

[00:14:33] Well, she was there the whole time.

[00:14:34] The whole time. Yeah.

[00:14:35] Yeah. During this interaction.

[00:14:36] Yeah. Yeah. She was just invisible or hiding.

[00:14:39] I'm not entirely sure which it was, which is funny too,

[00:14:43] because there's always that MacGuffin that shows up and that's the jar

[00:14:47] yeah that they get.

[00:14:48] And Esther was there to find something to create a spell,

[00:14:52] which we find out at the very end.

[00:14:53] Spoiler, she creates a familiar.

[00:14:56] A revenge starter kit as she put it.

[00:14:58] Yeah.

[00:15:00] She basically takes a crow called Monty and makes him human looking

[00:15:05] a very attractive human apparently.

[00:15:07] Nice boy.

[00:15:08] So it's not her boy toy.

[00:15:11] So it's her crow.

[00:15:15] Well, and then throughout the you know, in the very beginning,

[00:15:18] we do find that Crystal finally meets her neighbor, Niko.

[00:15:21] And we see more of the animation around her.

[00:15:24] And then obviously she passes out and yeah, once they look into each other's eyes.

[00:15:31] Yeah.

[00:15:32] Yeah, which also makes me think there might be something of an attraction

[00:15:36] between those two as well.

[00:15:37] Or am I right? No, it was the it was the spirits or sprites.

[00:15:42] The sprites influence on to her.

[00:15:44] Yeah, they need to look.

[00:15:46] They need you to look at her for them to get power.

[00:15:50] Yes, because it put something in the place of the people

[00:15:53] because if we see later down in the butcher shop, she just walks down

[00:15:56] and everybody even what's her name, the butcher states it too.

[00:16:01] I actually answered a question I had from the first episode was,

[00:16:04] can everybody see the stuff? And yes, yes, they can.

[00:16:07] Yeah, Jenny, who is as they label as the butcher or the landlord,

[00:16:11] Sierra, too. But and so could everybody in the butcher shop?

[00:16:15] Yeah. And it's like this, if they're all under a spell.

[00:16:19] So I thought that was pretty cool.

[00:16:20] I just like the fact that, you know, it's like what the

[00:16:24] the magic shop owner hands them with the jar.

[00:16:26] It's like literally it's like a lighthouse inside there

[00:16:28] with some sand and everything.

[00:16:30] And it plays the ocean sounds.

[00:16:33] So I thought there was some sort of significance

[00:16:35] because they had to take a boat across to get to this where they are.

[00:16:38] Let me just relaxing sound, too.

[00:16:40] And yeah, it's something to put them to sleep.

[00:16:42] But you know, obviously their ghosts, we do find out that

[00:16:47] she winds up getting the terrarium like Esther winds up

[00:16:49] getting like this kind of like mushroom looking terrarium

[00:16:53] from the magic shop owner for her starter kit, which is pretty funny

[00:16:56] because it just kind of reminded me of what we saw for the for the dandelion

[00:17:01] because it's almost like a kind of like a pedestal,

[00:17:04] but it's got runes, runes around it.

[00:17:07] And it's got that face at the bottom,

[00:17:10] which is supposed to contain the sprites, apparently.

[00:17:13] And then I really like that aspect of it

[00:17:16] because Edwin goes in after they go through all the books and everything,

[00:17:19] which is interesting. They wind up who literally

[00:17:23] he had to get these spectacles in order to out of his bag.

[00:17:26] And they look like something out of Benjamin Franklin.

[00:17:29] If you have watched National Treasure, everybody,

[00:17:31] I love the original National Treasure with Nicholas Cage and everybody in it.

[00:17:35] And they have these spectacles that show you a bunch of things

[00:17:38] that were just reminded me of that.

[00:17:39] And I just love that aspect.

[00:17:41] But it kind of gave me that that vibe and he's able to read the runes

[00:17:45] and they're able to understand that the vessel that was underneath

[00:17:48] the pedestal that's there was to house the sprites.

[00:17:52] And apparently that got interrupted when Niko went to that forest.

[00:17:58] And I just find it funny how Edwin actually asks her the questions

[00:18:02] when they actually, you know, when Crystal brings Niko to them

[00:18:06] and they they go through the whole visions of what happened to her.

[00:18:12] You know, it's like, were you alone in a woodland forest?

[00:18:15] And if there were dead bodies around things like that,

[00:18:19] that skeleton was pretty cool

[00:18:21] because they asked when it all began.

[00:18:23] And the skeletons were just hidden by the shrubbery

[00:18:26] all around all the grass that was overgrown and everything.

[00:18:29] She, you know, initially tells them that she was looking for dandelions.

[00:18:33] Now, mind you, it had to be local.

[00:18:35] It's not someplace in Japan where she was originally from.

[00:18:39] No, and they didn't look like Japanese sprites either.

[00:18:42] No, no, they were far from it.

[00:18:44] They look like kind of like Irish sprites or Americanized sprites,

[00:18:48] especially with the cursing and cussing that they were doing to.

[00:18:50] I love that was so funny.

[00:18:52] Honestly, they annoyed me very much almost like the

[00:18:55] it's not as annoying as the sprites in the movie Willow, if you remember that movie.

[00:19:00] Oh, yeah.

[00:19:02] Your mother was a lizard.

[00:19:05] You stole my eggs.

[00:19:08] But they were interesting to and I like that.

[00:19:11] And the fact that they possess her almost like an exorcist.

[00:19:14] It's like the whole at the end was like, yeah.

[00:19:16] Like it was interesting that Crystal couldn't get a read on them

[00:19:19] when she tried to when she tried to read Nico to see what was going on.

[00:19:23] Yeah, all she saw was like those the sparkles and the colors.

[00:19:28] Yeah.

[00:19:28] But Nico's recollection of the shrine and everything adds to it.

[00:19:32] And that's why they go there.

[00:19:33] And that's why they do the investigation of it.

[00:19:36] You know, I already I mentioned about the

[00:19:38] I'm Jenny, the butcher.

[00:19:40] Well, I'm trying to utilize the names that I got through IAMVB and stuff

[00:19:44] that that are there, but they don't mention her as landlord.

[00:19:47] Did they just call her the butcher?

[00:19:49] Yeah, I think I miss I even missed her name was Jenny, to be honest.

[00:19:54] They never mention it at all.

[00:19:56] I noticed. OK, that's what I was like.

[00:19:58] I'm glad you noticed that it was Jenny because I just keep calling her

[00:20:01] like the butcher or the landlord.

[00:20:03] No, I I have literally it up on IAMVB.

[00:20:07] I I try to keep the names up.

[00:20:09] So I'm used to these characters, at least using the names

[00:20:13] like Edwin, Charles, Crystal, you know, and we got Jenny,

[00:20:18] we got Nico, Kat King, Esther and then, of course, Monty.

[00:20:24] Apparently the magician was tragic, Mech.

[00:20:28] So so that that's another character

[00:20:31] that came up in this particular episode itself.

[00:20:34] Yeah. So it's one of those things I like to do.

[00:20:37] So at least I'm a little bit somewhat prepared or sure that I am,

[00:20:41] you know, not to pull the curtain away to see the, you know,

[00:20:46] Oz behind her and I'm not Oz by any means.

[00:20:50] All right. So the Lost and Found Department of the afterlife comes into play.

[00:20:54] We get a scene with them and Charles

[00:20:57] after life role is pending, apparently. Yeah.

[00:21:01] So that's an interesting because we get a little bit more

[00:21:05] information about that his so his afterlife role was pending,

[00:21:08] whether or not he was going to go into limbo heaven or whatever.

[00:21:12] And he is displaced according to them and they say he's cheating death.

[00:21:17] Yep. So and then on top of that, you have Edwin's afterlife.

[00:21:22] Edwin escaped from hell.

[00:21:23] So what I thought was what happened with him out of the Sandman storyline

[00:21:28] is probably not accurate. So well, in this one, they state that

[00:21:32] his assignment was held, but he escaped hell. Yes.

[00:21:35] So he escaped and we find out he escaped in 1989.

[00:21:39] So that was just when Charles died.

[00:21:42] Exactly. So at that, at that, I think it might have been for the fact

[00:21:46] that Charles probably saved him at that point.

[00:21:48] Yeah. I'm interested to get a little bit back story, you know,

[00:21:51] to get a little more into Charles's death.

[00:21:54] Yeah, I'm looking forward to it as well.

[00:21:56] I'm curious as to what the chewing debacle of oh, six was

[00:22:00] that Charles mentions about Edwin after he sees Edwin's fists

[00:22:04] and how frustrated he is intense because of the whole situation

[00:22:09] with the cacking and everything that's going on.

[00:22:11] We did learn something very interesting when they go back into the room

[00:22:15] with Nico. OK.

[00:22:17] And that is when they interact with real world stuff.

[00:22:21] Real world people can see it.

[00:22:22] Yeah, the jar is just floating there.

[00:22:24] Nika goes, why is that jar just floating?

[00:22:26] Yeah, but they had books that they were trading around like their books.

[00:22:30] So their books are in the afterlife.

[00:22:32] Yeah, so they're there.

[00:22:34] They didn't see those.

[00:22:35] Yeah, they're hidden from human eyes.

[00:22:37] But by the end of the movie, that movie episode,

[00:22:41] we do find out that Nico can see them because it's kind of as if she had

[00:22:45] a near death experience.

[00:22:47] So now she could actually interact with Edwin and Charles,

[00:22:50] which doesn't leave Crystal alone to seeing these people.

[00:22:54] I'm wondering if in the future we get something out of that with Jenny,

[00:22:58] the butcher, you know? Yeah.

[00:22:59] Because I, you know, we get that whole scenario where Jenny's like

[00:23:03] berating Crystal about everything in the hallway about all the noise

[00:23:08] and everything else that's going on.

[00:23:09] And she goes, oh, you're not even looking at me.

[00:23:12] You're just ignoring me.

[00:23:13] And it's not the case at all.

[00:23:15] So I thought it was pretty interesting.

[00:23:17] I'm looking forward to have that more from that particular character.

[00:23:23] I do enjoy the character.

[00:23:25] I love her tattoos.

[00:23:27] Yeah. I like if I identify with anybody in the show, it's Jenny.

[00:23:31] I know, right?

[00:23:32] And and it's like, even though at first it's like, oh my god, she's scary.

[00:23:37] But I'm just trying to help you guys out.

[00:23:39] But at a certain point, enough is enough.

[00:23:41] Yeah. And Brianna Cuoco plays her is very attractive.

[00:23:45] I was like, damn, she hot.

[00:23:47] Yeah, we've got I hate to be a guy about it.

[00:23:49] But I was like, wow, she's hot.

[00:23:51] Hey, I said some guys were cute.

[00:23:52] You know, we've got a very attractive cast in the show.

[00:23:55] They all are, you know, including, you know,

[00:23:57] George Rex true and Jane Reverie, both play Edwin Charles.

[00:24:02] They definitely are.

[00:24:03] And even Cassius Nelson, amazing.

[00:24:07] And then Jenny Lyon, Jen Lyon, who plays Esther, think about it.

[00:24:11] You're made to think that she's old, but she doesn't look old.

[00:24:15] Well, yeah, because she's been stealing the souls from people or thousands of children.

[00:24:21] Yeah. But she has that kind of vibe about her, which is interesting.

[00:24:26] And then, of course, we got Joshua Colley as Monty the Raven,

[00:24:30] which will see more later on, everybody.

[00:24:33] I'm pretty sure of it.

[00:24:34] Usually that's the case, especially Ravens within the Sandman world.

[00:24:38] Yeah. Yeah. Especially when a witch conjures up one just like him.

[00:24:44] It's so funny, though, how that whole exorcism, you get the eyes,

[00:24:49] the mouth, everything coming out.

[00:24:51] She gets all the information from like despite screaming at her,

[00:24:55] telling them to leave them alone.

[00:24:57] Basically, they're taking her as our own vessel.

[00:24:59] He's two little guys, two little man and a woman woman.

[00:25:03] Yeah, yeah. Two little people.

[00:25:06] But the thing that I thought was most interesting about that scene,

[00:25:09] though, was Crystal sacrificing herself. Oh, yeah.

[00:25:14] Like that wasn't discussed.

[00:25:15] She just started doing it like she's kind of got like a death wish.

[00:25:19] It reminded me if you watch Sons of Anarchy. No. No.

[00:25:23] Now, there's a point where one of the characters, Opie,

[00:25:27] start spoilers, but it's in the early seasons.

[00:25:30] Starts just not given a crap and gets himself into all these

[00:25:34] like really dangerous situations that you can argue were for the greater good

[00:25:39] or whatever. And this felt a lot like that.

[00:25:42] Like she just doesn't have any self-preservation left anymore.

[00:25:46] Like she's depressed because she doesn't have her memories.

[00:25:49] She doesn't know where she comes from.

[00:25:51] You know, she's like, you know, this girl has a family come to me.

[00:25:54] I don't have a family.

[00:25:55] Like it was it was honestly really sad.

[00:25:57] She had no will at that point.

[00:25:59] Yeah. And I think and I think she still doesn't.

[00:26:02] I think she's she's very hurt right now.

[00:26:04] I think, yeah, well, Crystal right now is trying to find her own way.

[00:26:07] But through Charles and Edwin, she's slowly developing that.

[00:26:12] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:26:13] And it gives her a chance for her to be herself around them.

[00:26:18] But Edwin's not giving her chance because just like you said before,

[00:26:21] because that whole me, me, me, me, it's my toy.

[00:26:24] Meaning I don't want to share.

[00:26:25] I don't want to share Charles with you.

[00:26:27] And I'm sure they will come to some sort of reconciliation.

[00:26:33] Eventually, I'm hoping halfway through we're only two episodes in

[00:26:37] and how many episodes do we have total eight?

[00:26:39] I think eight. Yeah.

[00:26:40] So yeah, I'm sure by episode four, she

[00:26:45] there'll be more of a gel with this this group of people,

[00:26:49] especially what Nico, because by the end of the episode,

[00:26:52] Nico is part of the group.

[00:26:53] Yeah. It's like a whole Scooby gang.

[00:26:57] Now now we definitely have to stay in Port Washington

[00:27:00] so we can interact with Nico some more. Exactly.

[00:27:05] So yeah, I really like that.

[00:27:07] They they were able to trap the the sprites into the jar itself.

[00:27:12] And the case was solved pretty quickly.

[00:27:15] I thought this this episode moved a little bit faster than the last episode.

[00:27:19] I agree. I mean, they had less explaining to do.

[00:27:22] Yeah, it was not.

[00:27:24] This is new to me and I watched it late last night.

[00:27:28] We're recording this on Tuesday to seventh.

[00:27:31] So hoping to get this out to you sooner this week, everybody.

[00:27:34] But it's so amazing for the fact that, you know, it's like once

[00:27:37] you get into the rhythm of the episode after you get to know some of the characters

[00:27:42] or you had glimpses and you start to feel them and their personalities

[00:27:46] and their character development and it starts to feel good.

[00:27:49] That's when and when I recorded with Lara and Daniel,

[00:27:54] Danny Espinelda on Saturday night, we were talking about interview

[00:27:58] with the vampire for adrenaline cinema podcast, the movie that is everybody.

[00:28:02] But, you know, they had binge watched everything.

[00:28:05] And they're like, I said, I'm recording on episode two.

[00:28:08] It's like, they're like, oh, no spoilers for Mar.

[00:28:11] No spoilers. I was like, they were like on episode seven and eight.

[00:28:14] I was like, I don't have. I'm not doing that, everybody.

[00:28:17] But they said it goes so smoothly.

[00:28:21] So for those of you who've been watching ahead, please no spoilers,

[00:28:25] but just talk about the episodes as we come if you do send feedback.

[00:28:29] And if you want to send feedback for the whole series,

[00:28:31] you can do that.

[00:28:32] Just tag it is that and we'll play it in the last episode.

[00:28:35] Correct. Yeah.

[00:28:36] And it's to me, it's like I understand people with binging.

[00:28:41] Yeah. I feel like this shows, at least so far,

[00:28:44] I mean, we're only like I said, I don't like two episodes deep,

[00:28:46] but I feel like this one could be an easy binge.

[00:28:48] Yeah, it could be an easy binge, according to a lot of people it was.

[00:28:51] They said, I knew people.

[00:28:52] I had friends at work that were like, I already watched it.

[00:28:55] It was like, really? Because I'm not going to punish my buddy, Casey,

[00:28:58] at work he he had watched it and he he liked it.

[00:29:01] He was not a fan of the comics, but he wanted to watch it

[00:29:04] because it was literally because like Sandman, Netflix and everything.

[00:29:07] And it was on and it's like water cooler talk.

[00:29:10] At work.

[00:29:11] But the thing is, is that it's one of those things that comes up

[00:29:15] and when Netflix drops everything at once, you're like,

[00:29:18] you have that itch to watch it all, you know?

[00:29:21] Yeah. But this time around, I didn't do that, which is so funny.

[00:29:25] I'm trying. I'm trying to be a good boy.

[00:29:28] It was so hard to do episode by episode with Sandman.

[00:29:30] Oh, yeah, I think we both did that at that time as well.

[00:29:34] Yeah, I didn't binge ahead because I didn't want to spoil it for myself.

[00:29:38] And it gave me something too, because I don't have regular TV or Gablebox.

[00:29:44] I literally just I have everything streaming.

[00:29:47] So if I go to to be, you know, Pluto TV, Amazon, Netflix or anything like that,

[00:29:54] I try to spread it out if it's an episodic show.

[00:29:57] And when Steve and I cover Dark Matter, which actually comes out

[00:30:02] tomorrow on the eighth of May, that's going to be interesting for the fact

[00:30:05] that, you know, I have to do it episodically.

[00:30:09] But Apple TV Plus apparently they're they'll drop like two episodes

[00:30:13] and then everything else is week to week.

[00:30:15] They did that with Servant.

[00:30:17] They did that with Monarch.

[00:30:18] They did that with a whole bunch.

[00:30:20] Amazon did that too with a few things.

[00:30:22] Amazon did that as well.

[00:30:23] It fall out and I.

[00:30:26] No, fallout all came in one shot, I thought.

[00:30:29] Oh, yes. Yes.

[00:30:30] It did. They did it with invincible.

[00:30:32] Yeah. When we covered invincible, they did that.

[00:30:34] They did it with something else too.

[00:30:35] But invincible was the one I remember the most because we covered that one.

[00:30:39] Yes, that's why I kind of got it mixed up.

[00:30:42] It's so funny.

[00:30:43] But yeah, it's I can understand people's need to binge wash

[00:30:47] because it's like they want to be headed again.

[00:30:49] They don't want to get spoiled.

[00:30:50] But what's online and I understand that aspect.

[00:30:54] But I tend to not even look at that stuff.

[00:30:57] May I'm looking at all the other stuff like Marvel

[00:30:59] and everything that's coming out that I love, especially with aliens

[00:31:02] coming out to not to digress too much.

[00:31:05] But the last thing and the only thing I have left that we didn't talk about.

[00:31:08] I mean, unless you want to go on and we talked about the sprites a lot.

[00:31:10] Good is the lineup of ghosts when the.

[00:31:14] Oh, yes, because the mail call it got all to the other ghosts.

[00:31:18] And now they know where they are.

[00:31:20] He said, well, he also said they're very excited that you're here.

[00:31:22] So there must not have been anything like them before.

[00:31:26] No, no, but they're also attracting some attention.

[00:31:31] Some attention from the lost and found department of the afterlife.

[00:31:36] Yeah, it's kind of like with Beetlejuice.

[00:31:40] Yes, it does feel like that.

[00:31:42] Oh, that's a good call.

[00:31:43] Yeah, it's a good throwback now that Beetlejuice, too, is coming out.

[00:31:47] But I just like the fact that, you know, we do get that aspect of it.

[00:31:52] Now they're they're being called out.

[00:31:53] So it means that we'll have more seasons, if anything,

[00:31:56] if they're more in America or they go back to England in between.

[00:32:00] Who knows?

[00:32:01] Well, yeah, or they can go to different parts of the U.S.

[00:32:03] I mean, we've got to be able to get out of Port Washington.

[00:32:05] We got to get the bracelet off.

[00:32:06] But yeah, unfortunately, we do find that out, too, with Edwin.

[00:32:09] He was hanging half out like the bracelet was literally holding him in port towns.

[00:32:15] And he was in England as Charles was looking for the books that they needed.

[00:32:21] That one over there. They're all over here. Yeah.

[00:32:24] This looks terrible

[00:32:26] because they were looking at all the symptoms that it's like secretion

[00:32:32] and everything else. I thought that was interesting, too.

[00:32:35] But the images on the books were different from what Niko was actually portraying.

[00:32:39] But you could they kind of relate to it because they flashed the pages

[00:32:43] and they flashed that.

[00:32:43] So I thought that was a unique way of showing it or an approach of showing

[00:32:50] it's like, OK, not everything is exactly as it seems in books,

[00:32:55] but you have to be able to mind it to it, which I thought was pretty cool.

[00:33:00] And I forget what.

[00:33:04] Oh, yeah, they were the books were all written in Aramaic.

[00:33:06] Yeah. So that's another thing that's out there, too.

[00:33:10] That's something to hold on to.

[00:33:11] I'm pretty sure because everything relates to anything

[00:33:15] within these these shows, these comics, these stories.

[00:33:19] So I thought that was pretty cool.

[00:33:23] And then, obviously, you know, at the very end, we get Esther.

[00:33:26] We see Esther with the contouring

[00:33:29] and she's doing some weird things like cutting things and stuff like that.

[00:33:33] And you knew she was cutting up the crow.

[00:33:36] Yeah. I don't think we knew his name was Monty before.

[00:33:40] At the very end, she she mentions it's like, yeah, I don't think

[00:33:44] we knew his name in the last episode, but now we know his name is Monty.

[00:33:48] I think he's going to come in and screw things up with our group.

[00:33:52] Yes. Yes.

[00:33:53] I would not be surprised if he catches Crystal's eye,

[00:33:58] which would which then Charles because Charles definitely still has a crush

[00:34:01] on Crystal like he shot his shot again.

[00:34:04] Yes. Or maybe it's an Edwin thing, too.

[00:34:09] Who knows? Who knows?

[00:34:11] Yeah, you don't know exactly what Edwin sexuality.

[00:34:13] They could be bisexual far.

[00:34:15] We know we'll see. We'll see how it plays out.

[00:34:18] One thing that came up to as Edwin and Charles were bickering

[00:34:22] as they were going towards the dandelion,

[00:34:25] I guess, monument or structure with a vase below it.

[00:34:29] Yeah. Edwin says his father would call Crystal a bobtail.

[00:34:33] And I had to look this up.

[00:34:34] This is English slang and in slang, an unpleasant person or a thug.

[00:34:40] Interesting. So and then Charles mentions that Edwin's father would call him,

[00:34:45] if anything, an unliked cub.

[00:34:48] So an unliked cub in English expression means naive or ignorant,

[00:34:53] and it is considered dated.

[00:34:56] The term originated from like 1811

[00:34:58] dictionary of vulgar tongue written by Francis Gross and describes a rude young person.

[00:35:04] So interesting. I had to go.

[00:35:06] You know, I do have English blood in me.

[00:35:10] And of course, hence the last name Kirkman.

[00:35:13] But I never grew up with my grandfather's

[00:35:17] Nana, who is his grandmother, who is from that country.

[00:35:23] And I never got to know her.

[00:35:25] I think I met only a few other people, but

[00:35:29] you know, my grandfather who passed away when I was really young.

[00:35:32] So I didn't meet any of these people.

[00:35:35] But I always look and interested into English culture

[00:35:39] in some of the slang that's out there.

[00:35:43] But yeah, I found that out.

[00:35:45] I those two things really interested me when I when I was watching the episode.

[00:35:51] But yeah, that's all I had for like notes and

[00:35:56] interesting facts and things of that nature.

[00:35:58] All I have left is like quotes and the songs that were actually involved

[00:36:02] in the episode keep saying movie.

[00:36:04] I don't know why.

[00:36:08] Do you have anything else?

[00:36:10] I just have a few quotes. That's all.

[00:36:11] Yeah, same here. So we can go and go into quotes.

[00:36:14] OK. All right.

[00:36:18] You guys got to find it in order.

[00:36:20] I had you're so oddly handsome and you fascinate me.

[00:36:26] The cat king talking to Edwin. Yeah.

[00:36:31] And then are you insane, Nico de Crystal?

[00:36:36] And then I just had a bunch from the sprites.

[00:36:39] Oh, yeah.

[00:36:41] They just cracked me up. Oh, yeah, they do.

[00:36:43] Cute. That's offensive.

[00:36:45] This jar is a hate crime.

[00:36:47] Yep. I had never done somewhere.

[00:36:50] You should go fuck yourself.

[00:36:52] Oh, we are fucking gods.

[00:36:57] Really get to get stepped on.

[00:36:59] And then at the very end when they throw the blanket over them,

[00:37:02] we are not birds. We know it's daytime.

[00:37:05] You can't fool us. Oh, yeah.

[00:37:07] They put the she puts the shirt over them.

[00:37:10] That's so cute.

[00:37:14] And the fact that they kept them, they have like holes in the jar

[00:37:17] at the top on the lid so they could breathe.

[00:37:21] I wonder if like every so often we'll just hear them in the background.

[00:37:23] I have a funny feeling that's going to be a standing thing

[00:37:26] that goes on throughout the season.

[00:37:28] So keep that in mind, listeners.

[00:37:31] Keep a lookout for that, because I'm pretty sure you'll hear something

[00:37:34] in a distance and you're like, is that and it's them.

[00:37:37] My quotes are pretty straightforward.

[00:37:40] The cat king himself saying, using magic on cats is a total car crash on your part.

[00:37:46] And that was him to Edwin regarding the magic that they were trying to do.

[00:37:51] And then we got.

[00:37:53] Jenny, the butcher or the landlord stating at Crystal about banging

[00:37:59] about the banging that Edwin was doing, saying enough with the banging

[00:38:03] whatever angsty John used level bullshit that's going on in here.

[00:38:08] Just do it more quietly.

[00:38:13] Showing her age.

[00:38:14] So she's got to be about my age, if anything, or if not a little younger.

[00:38:20] Generation X at their at their best, I guess.

[00:38:25] Oh, man.

[00:38:27] And that's all I had for quotes.

[00:38:29] So the only thing I have left is and I like to bring it up because

[00:38:33] I'm sure everybody out there is like me that likes to.

[00:38:37] We did this

[00:38:39] when Yellow Jackets came out that podcast.

[00:38:41] They have has covered because they do yellow.

[00:38:44] You know, we do Yellow Jackets WTF on podcast here with Daphne,

[00:38:49] Penny, Jason, Wendy, everybody who's been on there.

[00:38:55] They love the soundtrack because of the pop culture and music.

[00:38:59] I have that same feeling to when I watch certain shows and movies.

[00:39:03] I just look out and I put a good ear shot to it because,

[00:39:07] you know, I'm not James Gunn by any means with putting cool things into

[00:39:12] thing like movies and stuff like that.

[00:39:14] But James Gunn's got a great ear too, by the way.

[00:39:16] But that's another story.

[00:39:20] The songs in this particular episode.

[00:39:23] Could easily go into a Spotify playlist.

[00:39:25] So if I'm sure there's one out there, I did not look.

[00:39:28] So you let us know.

[00:39:30] Pretty sure, because a lot of like when

[00:39:34] if you listen to Kirk Manley and everybody else on the Marvel cast

[00:39:38] for for podcast or with me on panels, the Pixels podcast and

[00:39:43] and probably TV podcast industries, we mentioned it.

[00:39:46] There are other Spotify playlist.

[00:39:48] They did this with Moon Knight and things of that nature.

[00:39:51] So you could get those songs too and put them into a Spotify playlist.

[00:39:55] Same thing with Yellow Jackets WTF.

[00:39:58] They've done that too with The Walking Dead when they actually had music on The

[00:40:02] Walking Dead, but on this one I'm pretty sure they do.

[00:40:04] So just look for it.

[00:40:06] But this episode we had two songs and one was Take the Rest of Me by

[00:40:13] Brackles B. Crook and the first song,

[00:40:16] the song first plays in Dead Boy Detectives Episode 2 when Niko comes

[00:40:21] to Crystal's door before she loses consciousness.

[00:40:24] Edwin and Charles then figure out the dandelion sprites feed off the attention

[00:40:29] that elicited by the song and psychedelic lights.

[00:40:32] The song plays again halfway through the episode when Niko goes into the butcher

[00:40:36] shop full of people so we get a little bit of those moments where the music

[00:40:42] comes in so you got to listen for it.

[00:40:44] I'm bringing it up now so that way if you want to go back,

[00:40:48] watch the episode and listen for it.

[00:40:49] You can.

[00:40:51] The last one would be Natural Successor by Pectis Trail.

[00:40:56] So Natural Successor plays in the background of

[00:41:00] the Span Sandman spin off as Esther casts a spell on her bird

[00:41:05] by using a cauldron in order to turn him into a human being.

[00:41:10] So that happens when she creates Monty into a human.

[00:41:14] So it's at the very end.

[00:41:16] I recognize that too.

[00:41:17] I saw that as I was watching the episode

[00:41:21] and heard that, I should say.

[00:41:22] That's all it is.

[00:41:24] If I saw music, that'd be a poem of the world.

[00:41:30] But other than that,

[00:41:34] that's about it, except for we did mention feedback earlier

[00:41:41] and we did get some feedback.

[00:41:43] We didn't get anything on Facebook or email or anything of that response.

[00:41:48] But we did get some voicemails through podcast because

[00:41:53] talk at podcast.com or the the widget that Jason uses.

[00:41:59] And he sent me one already.

[00:42:02] So we have one for episode one

[00:42:06] and episode two from the one and only Steve Brown.

[00:42:11] So I will be playing that.

[00:42:15] I'm excited.

[00:42:16] You're excited.

[00:42:20] So give me a moment.

[00:42:27] Hello, Mark and Jamie.

[00:42:28] This is Steve and this is for Dead Boy

[00:42:31] Detectives Season One, the case of the Crystal Palace.

[00:42:36] I don't know.

[00:42:37] Anyway, I'm not going to live Steve it because you've already covered it

[00:42:40] and I can't wait to listen to the podcast on it, but I wanted to watch it first.

[00:42:43] I had no expectations going into this show, have no idea what it's about

[00:42:49] or anything.

[00:42:50] I knew it's kind of, I guess, in the Sandman universe, right?

[00:42:54] Because it's Neil Gaiman, I don't know.

[00:42:56] But I saw Ruth Cannell in the credits and it was like, oh,

[00:42:59] I just absolutely love her.

[00:43:02] She was in Supernatural, had a recurring character there.

[00:43:05] Great. So all right, I'll talk to you some more in a bit.

[00:43:08] OK, so he said he's going to play hardball with her and then

[00:43:13] how to pay or what to pay and we don't know what are they paying?

[00:43:17] I guess I am live steaming this.

[00:43:19] Oh, creepy clown disguises.

[00:43:21] Oh, what a twist.

[00:43:22] Not the clowns, the other people in the train car.

[00:43:25] OK, her name is Crystal Palace.

[00:43:28] So kind of a mic drop.

[00:43:31] I'm in like I'm only halfway through the episode and I'm in.

[00:43:34] This is great. I love this this show.

[00:43:38] I can't wait to watch more of it.

[00:43:39] And but they couldn't use the mirror because they're with a human.

[00:43:44] So they had to take a boat and planes.

[00:43:47] Love it.

[00:43:47] Oh, and just a side note.

[00:43:49] What about the little girl ghosts who hired them with for this psychic?

[00:43:53] Is she going to come back?

[00:43:54] I kind of like that they can control whether humans can see them or not.

[00:43:58] That's kind of cool.

[00:43:59] Oh, and so the mystery of Crystal

[00:44:02] deepens more in David the demon.

[00:44:04] Oh, so a demon took him to hell in 1916 and wow.

[00:44:10] It's that she's a proper villain talking about the witch.

[00:44:15] Put her in the bag of tricks backpack.

[00:44:17] Oh, my goodness.

[00:44:19] I hope they save this girl.

[00:44:20] I mean, I know they will, I'm sure.

[00:44:21] Oh, did he just possess the witch?

[00:44:24] And there she is right at the end, Ruth Cannell.

[00:44:29] Love it. All right.

[00:44:30] On to the next one.

[00:44:33] That was great.

[00:44:34] Yeah, that was that was for episode one, everybody.

[00:44:37] So and he had a lot of the same thoughts as like, how do they pay?

[00:44:40] We still don't know how we still don't know.

[00:44:42] And where's that kid and where is she now?

[00:44:45] Well, I mean, her her case got resolved.

[00:44:47] I'm assuming she knows that.

[00:44:49] I hope so.

[00:44:51] Oh, I would love for her to be like, I need evidence.

[00:44:54] I paid you.

[00:44:55] Yeah.

[00:44:56] And then give give that explanation of the pay and no, you can't have my squid.

[00:45:04] All right.

[00:45:05] On to he sent feedback for this particular episode as well.

[00:45:09] So we're going to listen to that right now.

[00:45:12] Hey, Marcus, Jamie, this is Steve and this is for oh gosh, I just looked at the case

[00:45:18] that Dan Dolian scrims shame.

[00:45:21] I don't know.

[00:45:22] Anyway, just a quick this is a quick note before I actually watch the episode.

[00:45:25] But I'm rewatching Wynona Earp and there's an episode in season two of Wynona

[00:45:31] Earp where they're asking Doc Halle, who his enemies are.

[00:45:34] And one of them is he says could be Dave.

[00:45:38] I don't know, demon Dave.

[00:45:41] All right. Here we go.

[00:45:43] The Denny line shrine.

[00:45:45] Oh, and we start right where you guys predicted the cat thing would come back.

[00:45:50] The cat gang wants it.

[00:45:52] What did he say?

[00:45:53] Okay, strangely enough, I just keyed in on the fact that he said I'm a cat king,

[00:45:57] not the cat king.

[00:45:59] OK, so I might go along on this one.

[00:46:01] Hopefully not.

[00:46:02] Edwin just revealed that only an iron

[00:46:07] whatever free ghosts but now cat scratches are poisoned to them.

[00:46:11] This cat king really looks like a young Eric Bogosian.

[00:46:14] I that's probably a weird yeah.

[00:46:17] Come.

[00:46:19] What is it?

[00:46:19] Comparison.

[00:46:20] Oh, so a cajun spell will keep him keep them in the town.

[00:46:25] Huh.

[00:46:26] OK, the cat kings terms, you know, on occasion I have been known to make a

[00:46:33] twisty happy.

[00:46:34] I don't know what it would take to make this cat king happy though.

[00:46:39] I love the landlord bursting in with a John Hughes level angsty.

[00:46:44] Seriously, the mailman can find them wherever they are.

[00:46:48] Oh, you were right.

[00:46:50] The witch is the witch Esther is back.

[00:46:52] She's in the war.

[00:46:53] Says pawn shop.

[00:46:55] What we have the same left.

[00:46:59] I love it.

[00:47:01] Hey, this might be a stupid question.

[00:47:02] I know I'm running long, but why can't Charles bring the books to the other side

[00:47:09] of the mirror for Edwin to look at directly?

[00:47:11] That is true.

[00:47:12] She just vomited something to her on the floor.

[00:47:16] Ew.

[00:47:17] Oh, the Danny Lion sprites seem to be infecting a lot of people.

[00:47:23] Anyone who sees them.

[00:47:24] Hey, I love Ruth Knell.

[00:47:26] She's so great and she delivers that line about the dead child being more

[00:47:31] than alive. What did she say?

[00:47:33] I had to back it up.

[00:47:34] She said a misplaced dead child causes more trouble than a live one.

[00:47:39] Calling.

[00:47:40] OK, so the bones are rising up and I know I'm going long.

[00:47:47] A hook.

[00:47:48] So there were two sprites and they just trapped him in this jar.

[00:47:53] Freaking postman shows up just whenever.

[00:47:57] OK, that ending, the finger freaked me out with Monty becoming a boy.

[00:48:04] And what's going to happen?

[00:48:07] I don't know.

[00:48:11] Awesome.

[00:48:12] That was great.

[00:48:13] It's OK to go long, Steve.

[00:48:14] Nobody else writes to us.

[00:48:15] Well, yeah, well, awesome.

[00:48:17] The fact that it's only three minutes.

[00:48:19] Yeah, I wouldn't go past five minutes for anybody, but not this episode

[00:48:24] that we're covering right now.

[00:48:25] This podcast at this point is only like about 51 minutes at this point.

[00:48:30] We did an hour and change last week for the first one.

[00:48:33] So that's fine, Steve.

[00:48:36] But if we do get inundated with any feedback, everybody,

[00:48:41] we'll probably do a separate feedback post.

[00:48:44] If that's if you guys start getting regular feedback first.

[00:48:47] And exactly.

[00:48:48] Yeah, yeah, we are kind of like

[00:48:53] the not popular version on podcasts on podcast.

[00:48:57] But this is probably my mojo because I never write it.

[00:49:00] I listen to everybody's podcast and I never write in.

[00:49:02] So this is my karma coming back to me.

[00:49:04] So well, same here, too.

[00:49:06] I do the same thing.

[00:49:07] I do my own podcast, but it's very rare and I feel bad because whenever I

[00:49:12] leave like a voicemail, like, you know, I try to like Steve,

[00:49:15] I come out like a goofy person and or I should just go back to like.

[00:49:22] That's like my live reactions whenever I try to.

[00:49:24] It's like, I'll do it and like, oh, that was terrible.

[00:49:26] I should never my old feedback back in a day was straight email or just comments

[00:49:32] on Facebook.

[00:49:33] And I think those come out better because the written form is a lot because you

[00:49:37] can easily just go back and edit and then just drop it in and then people

[00:49:41] could read your thoughts.

[00:49:43] That's just my feeling, but that's how I feel about myself.

[00:49:46] But with that, we're going to go into how you could send your feedback

[00:49:51] towards the end of the podcast.

[00:49:54] But in this case right now, because we're talking about podcast,

[00:49:57] yeah, we're just going to give you some podcast recommendations based upon

[00:50:01] podcast, so Jamie, do you have any?

[00:50:05] I mean, the O.G.

[00:50:08] Walking Dead Cat is still walking or cast of us.

[00:50:10] It's called the cast of us.

[00:50:12] Yeah, cast of us now.

[00:50:13] They're doing a rewatch right now.

[00:50:14] Yeah.

[00:50:15] And it's fun.

[00:50:15] It's fun to go back to something you love so much with the.

[00:50:19] The shade of time where you see how everything ended and where it went.

[00:50:25] So.

[00:50:26] Yeah, Lucy and Jason are covering the Walking Dead.

[00:50:31] I believe they're still on what season are they on?

[00:50:36] Two, they just had it.

[00:50:39] I don't remember. Let me check my notes.

[00:50:45] Today, actually, the Nebraska episode, season two, episode eight came out.

[00:50:49] Yeah, I thought it was season two.

[00:50:51] So I'm behind on listening to a lot of podcasts lately, which sucks because I have

[00:50:57] to do a lot of driving because when I do that, but I haven't really been doing

[00:51:01] too much driving because if I'm driving alone, it's a lot easier.

[00:51:06] But if I have a partner in car, he's not going to be like, hey,

[00:51:08] I don't want to hear these people talking.

[00:51:11] It's like talk radio.

[00:51:13] So I don't want to can, you know, we'll listen to music or what not.

[00:51:17] But yeah, they listen to the cast of us and their rewatch of going back to it's

[00:51:24] like it's kind of revisited like with Ben and Kristen when they go back.

[00:51:31] Because that's also another podcast that's on podcast as well as Wilhelm.

[00:51:36] So they are still doing the revisited podcast

[00:51:39] with Ben and Kristen to doing Ted Lasso.

[00:51:42] That's some plug right there.

[00:51:45] And that's such a fantastic show.

[00:51:47] It's amazing. I love that show.

[00:51:49] My sister actually benched, watched it and just gave me the attitude of like,

[00:51:54] where's the rest of it?

[00:51:55] And like, it was only three seasons.

[00:51:57] What do you want?

[00:52:00] So she wasn't ready for it to end.

[00:52:03] She wanted more.

[00:52:04] Which is pretty cool.

[00:52:06] We all do.

[00:52:07] Ending beautifully.

[00:52:08] I'm not mad about the ending, but yeah.

[00:52:11] But yeah, check out.

[00:52:12] But it's always there to rewatch.

[00:52:13] I think I've watched it four times there at this point.

[00:52:15] Same here.

[00:52:16] And it's like listening to Ben and Kristen as they go through every episode,

[00:52:20] which is pretty cool.

[00:52:21] And it makes you appreciate the characters more and more as they discuss them.

[00:52:26] And then you get to laugh along with them, especially when they tease each other

[00:52:30] just like, you know, the way Ben teases me when we were on Monarch cast

[00:52:35] together when we covered that.

[00:52:38] There's also Run for Your Lives with Daphne and Paik.

[00:52:41] So you could check them out.

[00:52:43] They basically cover everything that makes you run for your lives.

[00:52:47] I'm not sure exactly what they did last.

[00:52:50] I have to go back and rewatch it.

[00:52:54] Oh, rewatch it.

[00:52:56] Listen, I should say.

[00:52:57] But the final girl was the last one they just did.

[00:53:01] Yeah.

[00:53:03] Oh, yes, I did listen to that.

[00:53:05] And before that was Five Nights at Freddy.

[00:53:08] Yeah.

[00:53:09] Yeah. Five Nights at Freddy's.

[00:53:10] The next day you had a young boy named Jack.

[00:53:12] He was on there helping them out.

[00:53:14] He did a play through the final girl I listened to.

[00:53:18] And I thought, OK, I'll go home.

[00:53:20] I don't have anything to watch.

[00:53:21] So I'll start watching that.

[00:53:23] I thought it was Final Girls.

[00:53:26] Now, Jamie, you probably had seen Final Girls.

[00:53:30] Yeah, it's interesting and it's funny, right?

[00:53:33] Because it's a horror movie and it's almost like a comedy.

[00:53:37] This not so much.

[00:53:40] And Paik destroys it, but in great punishment, as I like to say,

[00:53:49] talks about it too.

[00:53:51] Because even Daphne is not happy with the movie itself.

[00:53:54] And I'm almost like, yeah, there's really good actors in this film.

[00:53:57] But you could hear their take on it and what they thought about it.

[00:54:01] But my opinion, I watched it thinking, OK, I'm going to listen to their stuff

[00:54:05] the next day on the way to work.

[00:54:07] And they're like, yeah.

[00:54:09] And I'm like, OK, and I'm feeling with them as I'm listening.

[00:54:13] But Final Girls, I would say, if you watched Final Girl after watching

[00:54:18] listening to them and just go watch the movie Final Girls, which is funny.

[00:54:23] Yeah. So check that out.

[00:54:26] Not sure exactly what Strange Indeed is doing with Paik and Rima right now.

[00:54:32] But I'm sure they're going to be coming up with something soon.

[00:54:37] And then

[00:54:40] that's about it for all.

[00:54:42] Well, there's Penny and Cara for, you know, still slaying a Buffyverse podcast.

[00:54:50] And you can check that out too as well.

[00:54:52] They're still continuing on with season three.

[00:54:55] I'm following along.

[00:54:57] I'm watching the episodes as they go.

[00:54:58] I still need to send in feedback.

[00:55:01] I'm probably going to come back probably on season four when I cover season four

[00:55:05] just to make an appearance or whatever, because I love, you know.

[00:55:09] Yeah, Jamie doesn't understand it, but I do enjoy the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show.

[00:55:13] A lot of people love it.

[00:55:14] It just wasn't my thing and that's OK.

[00:55:16] Yeah, it's kind of like me when I liked Zena and Hercules too.

[00:55:19] I liked Zena.

[00:55:20] I know.

[00:55:23] You want to get one of the chakras too, right?

[00:55:25] Yes. You throw it around.

[00:55:27] You see the Mac conventions.

[00:55:31] My money goes to lightsabers these days.

[00:55:32] I know that, but you could always get a lightsaber version.

[00:55:36] It'd be glowy.

[00:55:37] Yeah, I just can't trope with that.

[00:55:39] Yeah, well, that'd be more like predator.

[00:55:41] I don't know. Anyhow.

[00:55:43] So other than that, that's about it for like podcast recommendations.

[00:55:48] But you could also hear us on other podcasts too.

[00:55:53] So you could hear me here on Sandman Cast on Podcastica as always.

[00:56:00] You could hear me on Adrenaline Cinema

[00:56:02] podcast, which is my another podcast I do on another network that I have.

[00:56:08] And most recently.

[00:56:12] We had covered and it will be released around this time.

[00:56:15] Interview with the Vampire Slayer.

[00:56:17] Interview with the Vampire Slayer.

[00:56:19] No, that's not it.

[00:56:20] Interview. It's combining two things.

[00:56:22] It is. It is.

[00:56:23] Interview with the vampire that came out in 1994.

[00:56:28] It was actually entitled Interview with the Vampire,

[00:56:31] the Vampire Chronicles in 1994 as Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise,

[00:56:37] a whole slew, Antonio Bendettis, a whole bunch of people.

[00:56:41] Kristen Dunn, Kirsten, Kristen.

[00:56:44] Kirsten.

[00:56:45] Now I'm starting to sound like Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool.

[00:56:48] Kristen, Kristen.

[00:56:50] But it was her first portrayal.

[00:56:52] She was 12 years old in the movie.

[00:56:54] But we covered that because for Adrenaline Cinema,

[00:56:57] we're going to be covering

[00:56:59] Interview with the Vampire TV show Season two.

[00:57:03] And this would be a

[00:57:06] co-podcast with Podcastka and Adrenaline Cinema podcast.

[00:57:10] So it'll be on both platforms.

[00:57:13] So it was Lara, myself and Danny Espinoda.

[00:57:17] And we covered that particular movie for now on Adrenaline.

[00:57:20] But as soon as the TV show comes on in AMC Plus, it will be played on.

[00:57:26] You know, we're going to cover each episode.

[00:57:29] And it's going to be played on Podcastka's house podcastka feed,

[00:57:35] as well as Adrenaline Cinema podcast.

[00:57:37] So check that out and

[00:57:41] panels, the pixels podcast.

[00:57:43] Steve Brown, who you've heard from our feedback, he and I will be covering

[00:57:47] Dark Matter, which is going to be on Apple TV Plus on May 8th.

[00:57:51] And we'll be covering that.

[00:57:53] We'll probably put that out probably Tuesday nights

[00:57:57] or depending on the weekend and how we record.

[00:58:00] So you could check that out.

[00:58:02] We're going to be covering that episodically.

[00:58:04] And then the boys will be coming out on July 13th.

[00:58:08] Ooh, that soon?

[00:58:09] Yes.

[00:58:10] Ooh, I have plans that weekend, but when I get home.

[00:58:13] Yes, exactly.

[00:58:14] So we're going to be covering that as usual.

[00:58:17] So by then, Rob Mota and Frank

[00:58:21] Rodriguez and maybe Adam Gonzalez,

[00:58:25] who I work with with Fantasy Picks Movie Edition will guest on.

[00:58:29] Have fun. We could talk about the boys.

[00:58:31] And we'll talk about that at that point.

[00:58:34] And then we'll have more stuff for panels, pixels podcast.

[00:58:38] And then hopefully by then, Fantasy Picks Movie Edition,

[00:58:42] when Rob gets moved in completely into his no place.

[00:58:46] But that's about it.

[00:58:48] Jamie, you could be heard on Adrenaline Cinema podcast as well as like

[00:58:53] panels, pixels podcast and watched it in the 80s.

[00:58:56] And well, yeah, you've done other stuff on podcast.

[00:59:01] I think, right?

[00:59:02] Yeah, I've done Wilhelm.

[00:59:03] I've done the cast of us back when it was The Walking Dead cast.

[00:59:10] I feel like I've done other things, but I can't think of them now.

[00:59:12] Yeah.

[00:59:13] But yeah, eventually we'll go back to she'll be back on when we do

[00:59:18] Adrenaline Cinema podcast and we'll be doing Friday the 13th of continued coverage.

[00:59:23] We already put out episode four for Friday the 13th.

[00:59:31] Yeah.

[00:59:32] So we got to go on to episode five.

[00:59:34] So we're going to continue that coverage eventually so that way we can

[00:59:37] complete out the Friday the 13th legacy, everybody.

[00:59:41] Unfortunately, because we have Jason X covered already.

[00:59:44] Yeah, which is funny.

[00:59:46] But you've done the others on watched it in the 80s.

[00:59:48] So you did the first three.

[00:59:50] Yeah, so there's a little bouncing around and stuff.

[00:59:52] It's a little bouncing around, but you can put them in consecutive orders and we

[00:59:55] will clarify that once you go back to that particular podcast.

[01:00:01] But that's about it for where you get listeners can hear us.

[01:00:49] All you have to do is go to podcast.com.

[01:00:53] Next week we are covering season one episode three.

[01:00:57] Very.

[01:00:58] And I don't have that.

[01:01:00] I'm looking up the title right now.

[01:01:03] That's how prepared I was, everybody.

[01:01:06] The case of the Devlin house.

[01:01:09] All right, good.

[01:01:13] The case of the Devlin house.

[01:01:15] All right. Well, it's not that thing that they talk about in.

[01:01:19] Oh, what was the name of that Adam Sandler movie in Jennifer Aniston?

[01:01:24] I forgot it because they said something about Nicole Kidman played a character

[01:01:27] called Devlin named Miss.

[01:01:29] They talked about her.

[01:01:30] You know, it's like, oh, I got to take a Devlin.

[01:01:35] Which was like a number two.

[01:01:36] I don't think it's that.

[01:01:37] I just looked at the synopsis.

[01:01:39] It looks interesting.

[01:01:40] I'm excited to watch it.

[01:01:41] There you go.

[01:01:42] So you guys could watch that and then you could get back to us and send in some
