Next up: Lucy’s on break for awhile (we’ll be getting back to the rewatch in early May), so Jason and guests will be covering the new Alex Garland movie Civil War that’s in theaters now. Highly recommend you guys watch it! It’s a dark, apocalyptic character drama and I think most fans of TWD will appreciate it. If you see it, we really want to know your thoughts!

[00:00:00] Welcome, to the Cast of Us.
[00:00:29] A podcast dedicated to the show, The Walking Dead.
[00:00:38] Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast. I'm Jason.
[00:00:41] And I'm Lucy.
[00:00:42] And this is The Cast of Us, episode 577.
[00:00:45] And we're going through the rest of your feedback for The Walking Dead, The Ones Who Live, episode 6, The Last Time.
[00:00:51] Part 2 of 7. No, I'm just kidding.
[00:00:55] There will be a spin-off.
[00:00:58] Starring Lucy and her cat.
[00:01:00] Yep, I'll go to France.
[00:01:03] Next episode I'll mention since we're here at the end of The Ones Who Live.
[00:01:08] I think Lucy, you have some busyness coming up.
[00:01:13] I do, I need to unpack my boxes.
[00:01:16] You moved.
[00:01:17] I moved, I need to unpack my boxes.
[00:01:19] Lucy got a house, I don't know if we talked about that.
[00:01:22] I did. It's not haunted, I don't think, which is good.
[00:01:25] Oh, you haven't been there long enough to know that.
[00:01:27] I know, I don't know.
[00:01:29] You know where I was at the weekend?
[00:01:31] I was at a hundredth birthday party.
[00:01:34] That's amazing.
[00:01:35] Peter's grandma turned a hundred.
[00:01:37] How was it?
[00:01:38] It was wild. It was good.
[00:01:39] Is she in good shape?
[00:01:40] She gave a really sweet speech. She's in good shape.
[00:01:42] She stood up and gave a little speech about enjoying life.
[00:01:45] She said, I'm the one who lives.
[00:01:46] Yeah, literally, I am the one who lives.
[00:01:49] And then she said, damn you, Okafor.
[00:01:52] Which no one understood but me.
[00:01:54] But yeah, so between that and moving, I have not had much chance to unpack boxes.
[00:02:00] Yeah, so we are eager to get back to the re-watch,
[00:02:05] but we're going to have a bit of a break here.
[00:02:08] And in the meantime, I'm going to cover Civil War, the new Alex Garland movie.
[00:02:13] Yeah, it's like the one with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plevins in it.
[00:02:17] Yeah, okay. You'll have to listen. I want to know what that's like.
[00:02:20] Kirsten Dunst, I don't honestly usually care for all that much.
[00:02:24] She was really good in this.
[00:02:26] So David is interested in covering it with me.
[00:02:29] We're also going to have Jim on who's been a longtime listener and part of the Zed Head group.
[00:02:34] And that's going to be great.
[00:02:35] That will be next week sometime.
[00:02:37] And then I think probably the first week of May we'll be going to Nebraska to get back to the re-watch.
[00:02:43] That sounds about right.
[00:02:45] So now that we've had a couple of weeks, right, to think about the series,
[00:02:51] I know it's had somewhat of a mixed reaction.
[00:02:54] I think mostly people were really into it until the finale,
[00:02:58] and I feel like that's what really gave it the mixture.
[00:03:00] Although there were some things along the way.
[00:03:02] But now that I've had time to think about it, I really loved it.
[00:03:06] It's my favorite of The Walking Dead spinoffs with its flaws, with all its flaws.
[00:03:12] Yeah.
[00:03:13] I think they took a tough situation where they had to explain where Rick has been
[00:03:18] and did the best they could to make this thrilling, moving human story out of it.
[00:03:23] I think it was Gimple in not top form but pretty good, you know?
[00:03:27] Definitely good Gimple because there's, I acknowledge there's some not great Gimple,
[00:03:33] but I think this was really good Gimple.
[00:03:34] I get the criticisms of it feeling rushed and there being some crazy, ridiculous plot points.
[00:03:41] But the stuff that was good about it made up for that for me,
[00:03:46] and it had one of the best Walking Dead episodes ever by most accounts, which was episode four.
[00:03:51] And I think it was a beautifully fitting end to Rick's story.
[00:03:56] If we never see him again, I hope we will.
[00:03:58] But this is very satisfying.
[00:04:00] I'm so glad that they didn't leave his story unfinished,
[00:04:03] and I'm really satisfied with this series as an ending to it.
[00:04:06] So that's how I feel after having some time to sit with it,
[00:04:08] which is pretty much how I felt right afterwards too.
[00:04:10] What about you?
[00:04:11] Yeah, very similar.
[00:04:13] I feel very blessed to be in a fandom that let me have this,
[00:04:16] but like the cast and the creators cared enough to do that.
[00:04:20] And I know AMC wants the money and I know that it's a cash cow,
[00:04:24] but they had all the cash cows without Deny and Andy coming back.
[00:04:28] And you couldn't watch the series and deny that,
[00:04:32] deny, deny, deny that the actors and the creators cared about those characters.
[00:04:38] And not a lot of shows or fandoms can say that.
[00:04:42] And I think episode four and the last five minutes of this episode made it all worth it.
[00:04:47] Yeah, like I'm a Doctor Who fan.
[00:04:50] You're Doctor Who fan, right?
[00:04:52] Yeah, yeah.
[00:04:53] And I really dug the Chris Eccleston season when the show came back after many years being off the air.
[00:05:00] And then later on, I mean, all the Doctors have been fantastic.
[00:05:04] If you're not a fan, you won't know what the hell I'm talking about,
[00:05:06] but they change actors every once in a while.
[00:05:08] And David Tennant was really good, my favorite, and Matt Smith.
[00:05:12] And then they did a special with the three Doctors because they're time travelers so they can all meet.
[00:05:17] And they wanted to get Chris Eccleston together with David Tennant and Matt Smith.
[00:05:23] And Chris Eccleston had a beef with the BBC and didn't come back.
[00:05:28] And I understand that. But man, like what you're saying, it's like, God, all those fans are just like,
[00:05:33] oh, we really want that and it would be so great.
[00:05:35] I mean, I guess I can't blame him for it.
[00:05:37] I don't really know what was going on behind the scenes.
[00:05:39] But just how I felt was like, oh, I wish he would have found a way to make that work, asked for more money or whatever.
[00:05:45] And so what you're saying about this happening, it does feel like it does feel like they care.
[00:05:52] Yeah, absolutely. And I just I feel very lucky for that.
[00:05:56] I feel that it was a gift for us as fans.
[00:05:58] And I feel like I don't want to sound gaslit into we can never can never be ungrateful for what we were given.
[00:06:05] But I'm glad we thought it. I'm really glad we did.
[00:06:07] Yeah, I mean, for me, I think I liked it probably more than you.
[00:06:11] But but it feels like we're both pretty positive.
[00:06:13] I liked it a lot. I think I was there was probably episodes where I was more negative.
[00:06:18] But that was frustration with Rick.
[00:06:20] And I do feel that episode four did a lot of damage repair on that.
[00:06:25] And I'm excited to watch it again, to be honest with all of the episodes in place and view it more as like a full set rather than worrying about what's happening next.
[00:06:34] Yeah, I so I felt frustrated with Rick too, but in a way that I thought was a good story, you know?
[00:06:46] I think you did too, right?
[00:06:48] Yeah, I think once we got to the other side of it.
[00:06:50] Yeah.
[00:06:51] But that's the journey you want to be on if you want to feel that it'd be so boring if you were just sitting there like, yeah, man, that's totally great.
[00:06:58] Yeah, that's cool.
[00:06:59] Yeah, like Michonne shows up and Rick's like, oh, let's get out of here.
[00:07:02] And they go home and then it's the two episodes.
[00:07:04] Yeah, and that's it.
[00:07:05] I mean, you know what?
[00:07:07] Knowing me, I probably still would have liked it.
[00:07:09] But I appreciated the depiction of trauma.
[00:07:11] Yes, trauma and even in I still maintain which is wrapped up in trauma, but a little bit of that cult follower vibe, I think you need to be deprogrammed.
[00:07:22] And as much as I can understand being in Michonne's shoes and being like, what the fuck?
[00:07:27] I came out here risk my life, spent a year dying just to save you and you've sent me away with a lie.
[00:07:34] Fuck you.
[00:07:35] But she there was a point in one of the denigra interviews where she's like, she had to come to a point where she didn't take it personally and then she could sort of open her heart to him.
[00:07:44] And then that's what it took to deprogram him.
[00:07:47] And I feel that align so well with cult like, you know, how to approach someone who's been messed with that had their mind messed with like that.
[00:07:56] I can see both sides of it.
[00:07:58] Yeah, I think so.
[00:07:59] I think it's balanced.
[00:08:01] So this is a feedback episode.
[00:08:03] I don't know if you guys knew that.
[00:08:05] We're just going to go over again.
[00:08:08] Let's get into that.
[00:08:15] So we start with Mofevo who says FYI, Terrio Quinn was transformed on two finales this week.
[00:08:21] Both were amazing.
[00:08:23] That's the ones who live in.
[00:08:25] I haven't seen the show, but I've heard it's great.
[00:08:27] Resident Alien.
[00:08:28] Oh, and Terrio Quinn was in it.
[00:08:30] And I think maybe he was masquerading as a human, but I did see one picture of him made up like an alien.
[00:08:36] Oh, so interesting.
[00:08:39] It's that guy from Serenity Firefly who drove piloted the ship.
[00:08:47] Oh, the guy that played Jane.
[00:08:50] A wash.
[00:08:52] Oh, I love him.
[00:08:54] He's the star of that.
[00:08:55] Ladi.
[00:08:56] Alan.
[00:08:57] Alan Tudyk.
[00:08:58] Alan Tudyk.
[00:08:59] Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:00] Oh, he's wonderful.
[00:09:01] Yeah, I love him.
[00:09:03] Pamela Strickler says loved it.
[00:09:05] Glad to get a happy ending.
[00:09:06] Feel like I will sleep a little better now.
[00:09:08] Nice.
[00:09:09] Amen to that Pamela.
[00:09:11] Nate Pacini says I thought it did everything it was supposed to.
[00:09:14] That said it could have been two episodes and felt rushed.
[00:09:17] Nate, there was definitely room to expand, I think.
[00:09:20] It's weird.
[00:09:21] I don't get this actually.
[00:09:23] It could have been two episodes, felt rushed.
[00:09:25] So wait, if it was two episodes wouldn't have been way more rushed.
[00:09:29] Well, you know.
[00:09:30] Nate.
[00:09:31] I think he means the finale could have been two episodes.
[00:09:33] Oh, okay.
[00:09:34] Yes.
[00:09:35] That's it.
[00:09:36] Got it.
[00:09:37] Thank you.
[00:09:38] Megan O'Connell says I think I'm a bit disappointed.
[00:09:40] I'll have to hear the podcast and others feedback to maybe process it and not see it as rushed.
[00:09:45] Very fair.
[00:09:46] Yeah, very fair.
[00:09:47] Scott Witham says it's amazing he's finally home.
[00:09:51] You will never please everybody but I don't care.
[00:09:53] He got back where he belongs and that's all I wanted.
[00:09:56] Yes.
[00:09:57] Nick Archer says, hey Nick, says I was certain one of them would die and a season two would be announced.
[00:10:03] I was ready for a bit of a letdown.
[00:10:05] Me too, but I'm glad that didn't happen.
[00:10:07] As soon as Rick leapt over the desk, I smiled and as soon as I saw Judith's face, I was broken.
[00:10:13] I'm profoundly grateful for no loose ends.
[00:10:15] Well said.
[00:10:16] Yeah.
[00:10:17] I feel you.
[00:10:19] Brandon Tackett says anyone else a bit nervous at the end?
[00:10:22] Uh-huh.
[00:10:23] I guess I'm too much.
[00:10:24] I hope for the best to expect the worst person.
[00:10:27] I was almost expecting an occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge ending.
[00:10:31] Really liked the last two episodes.
[00:10:33] Nice wrap up and now we know what Carol was trying to tell Daryl.
[00:10:36] Okay, Brenda, I'm going to admit it.
[00:10:38] I don't know about Owl Creek.
[00:10:39] I don't know what it is and what occurred.
[00:10:41] Can someone fill me in?
[00:10:43] You don't know about Owl Creek Bridge me neither.
[00:10:45] I have no idea.
[00:10:46] I don't know about Owl Creek Bridge.
[00:10:48] Someone let us know.
[00:10:49] Sure, we'll find out.
[00:10:51] Benji Reynolds says, why aren't we seeing more people missing limbs?
[00:10:55] Surely our group isn't the only ones that know if bitten on an arm or leg,
[00:10:59] you may survive if the limb is removed in time.
[00:11:01] I would think we should be seeing all kinds of background characters with artificial or missing limbs.
[00:11:06] This is just an odd random thought I had listening to Jason and Lucy the other day.
[00:11:10] I recently in one of our, was it in our rewatch?
[00:11:13] No, I think it was the one where Rick lost his hand.
[00:11:16] Again, we listed off a whole bunch of Walking Dead characters that have lost limbs.
[00:11:21] But maybe you would be seeing even more.
[00:11:24] I don't know.
[00:11:25] Yeah.
[00:11:26] That far in you think so.
[00:11:28] Here's a call from Colin.
[00:11:31] Ten out of fucking ten.
[00:11:34] This episode did what the Walking Dead has been trying to do for 14 fucking years and they did it.
[00:11:42] They pulled it off.
[00:11:44] They rushed it, but it was a good rush.
[00:11:48] I'm satisfied.
[00:11:49] I like that. They rushed it, but it was a good rush.
[00:11:51] I know.
[00:11:52] I shouldn't be because it was rushed, but it made more sense the second watch through.
[00:11:58] And they got it done.
[00:12:00] And by God, I couldn't be happier.
[00:12:02] It was the finale that I was hoping for for the pilot show.
[00:12:08] But anyway, it was a great Easter.
[00:12:12] So happy Easter, everybody.
[00:12:14] And happy 61st birthday to my dad.
[00:12:19] Not that he watches the show or listens to the podcast or me, but happy birthday, old man.
[00:12:28] And with that, I'm signing off.
[00:12:31] Love you all.
[00:12:33] Keep giving us good content because people like me, we really appreciate it.
[00:12:39] All right.
[00:12:40] Later, y'all.
[00:12:42] Thanks, Colin.
[00:12:43] Oh, thanks, Colin.
[00:12:44] I'm glad you liked it.
[00:12:46] Yeah, me too.
[00:12:48] Next up we've got Mark McBurney who says overall, I thought the series was the best out of the new spin-offs, but that ending just fell flat for me.
[00:12:58] Sorry, it really fell flat for me.
[00:13:00] And without a season two announced, I guess it's time for Rick to go and look for Daryl now.
[00:13:04] And to answer your question from Lucy, hello.
[00:13:06] On a previous podcast, my name is indeed of Scottish origin, but as far back as I can find of my family tree, we are all from Sunderland in the north of England.
[00:13:15] I enjoy Sunderland very much, Mark.
[00:13:17] So I'm even more pleased to hear that.
[00:13:21] I've never heard of it.
[00:13:22] Sounds cool though.
[00:13:23] Sunderland.
[00:13:24] It's great.
[00:13:25] It's the north of England.
[00:13:26] It is fab.
[00:13:28] Speaking of Scots, here's Jennifer McGinley who says,
[00:13:32] Really like this show can see past the ridiculous plot coincidences and how easy Rick and Michonne prevailed due to the great production.
[00:13:41] Due to the great production, action scenes were brilliant, a few excellent comedy lines and a fab happy ending.
[00:13:46] Thoroughly enjoyed it.
[00:13:47] And if there's no season two, then I'll be just as content where it left off.
[00:13:52] Whether I still feel this positive after listening to you dissecting it remains to be seen.
[00:13:56] I'll let you know.
[00:13:57] Well, I feel almost exactly the same way as you.
[00:13:59] So I hope we didn't ruin it for you somehow.
[00:14:01] Amazing.
[00:14:03] After Jennifer, we've got Renee.
[00:14:06] Renee Murray says, I loved everything about the series.
[00:14:10] I was like you Lucy.
[00:14:11] I was thinking Rick, please don't drink that tea.
[00:14:13] Rick Grimes is and always will be the walking dead to me.
[00:14:16] You guys are amazing.
[00:14:17] And I'm so happy I found Podcastica.
[00:14:19] You guys have a podcast for every show I watch and every host is amazing.
[00:14:24] Also, each and every one of you guys seem so authentic, but I wouldn't expect anything less from such a diverse group of people.
[00:14:29] Keep shining.
[00:14:30] Peace and love.
[00:14:31] Oh, Renee, that's wonderful.
[00:14:33] We're all super fake.
[00:14:34] We hate each other.
[00:14:35] We're just in it for the the massive sponsorship deals.
[00:14:39] Yeah, that's why we're here.
[00:14:41] That's awesome, Renee.
[00:14:42] Thank you so much.
[00:14:43] It's really nice.
[00:14:44] Dozy Bowen Echtel says, I'm so happy there were so many things to pick apart in this episode, but I don't even want to give any time to those thoughts because I'm so happy.
[00:14:53] I was so happy with the reunion.
[00:14:55] The Grimes family is reunited and I sobbed.
[00:14:58] I'm so, so happy that Andy and Danai even brought this to our screens and spent the time and poured such love into it.
[00:15:05] It gave me everything I wanted.
[00:15:07] Ultimately, a reunion with the kids, multiple callbacks, and the Rashone love story tied up in a pretty bow.
[00:15:13] Yeah.
[00:15:14] Oh, that's so nice.
[00:15:17] Okay.
[00:15:18] Um, Kirsty CF says, Hi, Jason and Lucy.
[00:15:22] I'm only about 30 minutes into the finale podcast.
[00:15:25] Just wanted to chime in that I never watched World Beyond and I was a bit baffled by the brevity of the Echtelon briefing.
[00:15:31] I actually thought Beale had more information to share, but Rick killed him first.
[00:15:35] That was actually the second time in the series that I yelled, Holy shit, so loud that I scared both dogs off the couch.
[00:15:41] First time was when they jumped out of the helicopter.
[00:15:44] I thought the statistical info about giant hoards and how long humanity had left was interesting.
[00:15:49] Overall, I really like the show in the finale and I'm very much enjoying all of these podcasts.
[00:15:55] Thank you very much, Kirsty.
[00:15:57] That's Kirsty.
[00:15:58] I had asked people to write in who hadn't seen World Beyond what they thought of the Echtelon briefing.
[00:16:02] So that was awesome.
[00:16:04] That is really interesting.
[00:16:05] Yeah.
[00:16:06] Okay.
[00:16:07] Navarta Randall says, I was so anxious all the way through.
[00:16:10] It took a lot of willpower not to skip ahead bits to see events unfold quicker and see if they would be okay.
[00:16:17] I bet there's some people who do that.
[00:16:19] Yeah.
[00:16:21] The suspension and disbelief department was working strong in the explosion parts.
[00:16:25] Yes, absolutely.
[00:16:26] Proximity to them would have been fatal, but plot armor saved the vital three players.
[00:16:31] I did really enjoy this episode though.
[00:16:33] It was a nail biter.
[00:16:34] At one stage, I realized I had my hands on my face, Home Alone style.
[00:16:38] The stress.
[00:16:40] That ending, my heart, I had real tears.
[00:16:43] I look forward to binge watching the whole season now.
[00:16:45] I would like to add some of the writing was dodgy, but I forgave it with the incredible acting from our amazing duo.
[00:16:51] Overall, I'd say it's a winner personally.
[00:16:54] I look forward to continuing the rewatch of the OG series with you guys now.
[00:16:57] Nice.
[00:16:58] As do we.
[00:17:00] All right.
[00:17:01] Here's a call from Gloria.
[00:17:03] I cannot believe they did it.
[00:17:06] This is one of your witchy friends in Salem.
[00:17:09] I can't believe they frickin' did it.
[00:17:12] Lucy and Jason, the finale of the Rick and Michonne show was fucking epic.
[00:17:17] I also can't believe that Michonne made it up that tree so fast.
[00:17:21] What is she, a ninja?
[00:17:22] It felt like Rick was in Beal's office, particularly to kill him.
[00:17:28] I mean, how could he not be?
[00:17:30] Wicked cool scene though.
[00:17:32] Beal was just talking like it's a regular work day, just another Tuesday.
[00:17:36] Mass genocide is never a good idea dude.
[00:17:39] No, never.
[00:17:41] Michonne entering that auditorium with the kids' photos up on the wall.
[00:17:45] These people are fucking crazy.
[00:17:48] Bubble windows? Seriously?
[00:17:51] Jesus Christ, I was so pissed.
[00:17:54] They literally saved so many lives.
[00:17:56] And all those flashbacks were wrecking me.
[00:17:59] Danai walking outside again, so much terror in her eyes.
[00:18:04] It's about time that a thorn finally figured it out.
[00:18:08] I mean, I thought she was a little bit brighter.
[00:18:10] I guess not.
[00:18:11] This is the shit we do and love doesn't die.
[00:18:15] Perfect.
[00:18:16] Oh Nat, you maniacal genius you.
[00:18:19] What a blast, literally.
[00:18:22] It was so big.
[00:18:24] What a wonderful and intelligent idea that our favorite couple had as well.
[00:18:28] How in the hell did thorns survive that blast?
[00:18:31] No way.
[00:18:32] And what's Rick and Michonne hiding under?
[00:18:35] I mean, I get it was water, but I can't see how it worked anyway.
[00:18:40] And I want more seasons.
[00:18:42] I mean seriously people, somebody announce something.
[00:18:45] Gotta love the CRC overtaking the CRM.
[00:18:49] Immediate reform, pronto.
[00:18:51] Sweet Jesus, I started crying when they got off the helicopter.
[00:18:56] Seeing those kids running to the parents.
[00:18:59] Oh my God, so touching and emotional.
[00:19:01] Oh Judith, you were breaking my heart, sweetheart.
[00:19:04] Watched it twice.
[00:19:06] And what were these helicopters doing?
[00:19:09] Bringing food and supplies to our people?
[00:19:11] God, I hope so.
[00:19:12] More seasons, more seasons with Danai as the head writer.
[00:19:17] Who do I send an email to?
[00:19:19] Okay, that's it for me.
[00:19:22] Which one's coming up next?
[00:19:25] I think House of Dragons, season two.
[00:19:30] I think that one's next.
[00:19:32] Not sure.
[00:19:33] Okay, bye guys.
[00:19:34] Love you.
[00:19:35] Daryl's this summer they said, so I don't know which one will come back first.
[00:19:41] But she said who I send an email to, which made me remember that I used to have Scott Gimple's email.
[00:19:47] I don't know if it's still the same.
[00:19:49] And that is, no, I can't give it out.
[00:19:55] Did Michonne go up a tree?
[00:19:57] I don't remember that.
[00:19:58] Yes, she did at the start when she was trying to sneaky sneak her way into the base.
[00:20:04] I think I totally missed that somehow.
[00:20:08] All right, I think it's your turn.
[00:20:10] My turn, I have.
[00:20:13] Anthony Ibarcina says, the last episode was so exciting and suspenseful.
[00:20:18] It was one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead universe.
[00:20:21] I was hooked on this show after episode two.
[00:20:24] I really didn't care for episode one.
[00:20:26] I loved the ending of the last episode.
[00:20:28] It was the best ending to any Walking Dead season.
[00:20:31] As Abraham would say, loose ends make my ass itch.
[00:20:34] So I'm glad there were no loose ends.
[00:20:36] I've read that Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira have teased a season two or a huge end game like crossover season or episodes.
[00:20:42] I would love to see that.
[00:20:44] I don't know, though the episode titles altogether read, days gone by, what we become the last time.
[00:20:50] I would really like The Walking Dead to go on longer.
[00:20:52] I like the way these episodes span out and the writing was the best so far for any of the spinoffs.
[00:20:58] Thank you, Anthony.
[00:21:00] Yeah, I just think I wouldn't expect anymore, but I'll be grateful for it if it comes with with these characters.
[00:21:08] Terry from Huntington Beach says, From Zombie Sofia coming out of that barn to heads on pikes, The Walking Dead is full of epic moments.
[00:21:17] I know we fans wanted more of them in this Walking Dead Lite miniseries we all just watched,
[00:21:22] and I know the fans are going to trash the way these six episodes panned out.
[00:21:26] Yes, I wanted to see more epic moments.
[00:21:28] Rick armed with a Kalashnikov blasting away, Michonne kicking ass with her katana,
[00:21:34] John Locke having more than three scenes, but the actors and the writers gave us a conclusion to two of our favorite characters,
[00:21:41] and it was a happy ending.
[00:21:43] Podcastica Crew, what do you think of this ending?
[00:21:46] Rick and Michonne blow up the CRM as the gas clears we see Zombie Rick and a Zombie Michonne stagger out of the gas cloud together forever just like they wanted to be.
[00:21:56] Roll credits.
[00:21:58] I say Terry, go home you drunk.
[00:22:01] And they're like, Judith, that's fine Judith.
[00:22:05] Bring them into the family.
[00:22:09] I love it.
[00:22:11] Andy Fisher says Dear Jason and Lucy, The final TOWL episode was great and I can't wait to hear your and the fans' feedback.
[00:22:18] Two observations. First, I loved the military briefing.
[00:22:21] It was a simple brutal response, us or them, to the threat of extinction.
[00:22:26] It reminded me of the signs inside of Terminus.
[00:22:28] We first, always and so different than the later seasons of Fear of the Walking Dead with its characters endlessly talking about helping saving blah blah blah.
[00:22:37] Second, really?
[00:22:39] The greatest military in the world was taken out by a few grenades and well-placed explosives.
[00:22:43] I was disappointed that Richonne saved the world and destroyed their enemies in a blink and you miss it scene.
[00:22:48] The CRM were so interesting. RIP Wineglass.
[00:22:52] I hope the story continues. Long live the walking dead.
[00:22:56] Five slices of pizza and a wedding ring.
[00:22:58] Oh Andy, that's a nice way to end it.
[00:23:02] Mm hmm.
[00:23:04] Okay, here's a call from Johnny from Texas.
[00:23:07] What's up Jason and Lucy?
[00:23:09] Love the podcast as always.
[00:23:12] So what a finale.
[00:23:14] Absolutely fantastic.
[00:23:16] The ending was perfect.
[00:23:18] It's exactly what I wanted from the show.
[00:23:21] Now Rick's back at what I believe is the Commonwealth.
[00:23:26] I don't know, I wish I could have saw like the gates of Alexandria in the background or something, you know, but it's okay.
[00:23:33] I mean now he can find out everything that happened while he was gone.
[00:23:37] He can meet Princess.
[00:23:39] Mercer.
[00:23:41] Like it's just the thought of it and it sucks that we'll probably never get to see a lot of those things.
[00:23:48] But it's going to be interesting to see what they do moving forward for the Walking Dead universe, you know.
[00:23:55] I'm excited for Daryl.
[00:23:58] Season two.
[00:24:00] Let's see what happens there.
[00:24:02] What an episode.
[00:24:03] I want to know like how they're going to handle Rick's end now.
[00:24:08] Like is Aaron going to come up to him and be like, I can help you or what are they going to figure out?
[00:24:15] Just very interesting stuff to wonder about.
[00:24:19] Or maybe even Negan.
[00:24:21] Like you can imagine all the cruel weird jokes he'll probably make whenever he sees that.
[00:24:28] But it's definitely time to get that whole band back together.
[00:24:32] The ones who are alive, I mean.
[00:24:35] Once you live.
[00:24:36] I want to know what y'all thoughts are.
[00:24:37] What an episode.
[00:24:38] Can't wait to hear y'all cover the Daryl show.
[00:24:46] Oh, thanks, Johnny.
[00:24:48] I thought he was sneezing or something.
[00:24:51] I was worried he was barfing.
[00:24:53] Great visceral noise.
[00:24:55] Thanks everyone.
[00:24:57] I was like no, come back.
[00:24:59] So you brought up something that I hadn't fully let myself consciously think about.
[00:25:05] But someone pointed out during the course of the season that Shone doesn't know about the Commonwealth and I forgot about that.
[00:25:12] That's true.
[00:25:13] And I do think that's where RJ and Judith were because that's where they were with Daryl at the end there.
[00:25:20] And he left and presumably they were with Carol or somebody there.
[00:25:24] You'd hope so.
[00:25:26] So yeah, like there's some stuff in there that they just didn't have time for.
[00:25:33] But how did they connect?
[00:25:35] Where did they meet?
[00:25:37] Because you would think that Rick and Michonne would go back to Alexandria.
[00:25:41] And when Michonne was ready to go home, she got on the walkie and said, die toe.
[00:25:45] But the Commonwealth is very far away from Alexandria.
[00:25:50] So anyway, we didn't need to see all that stuff, but it does kind of make you wonder.
[00:25:54] I just want an admin episode.
[00:25:56] I'm going to be honest.
[00:25:58] They can just do like when you and I have had questions like when Dante was the spy and we wanted to know about all the details and then they just showed it in the first few minutes of the next episode.
[00:26:08] We just want those first few minutes.
[00:26:10] A little info dump, please.
[00:26:12] That would be great.
[00:26:13] Thank you.
[00:26:14] And you mentioned, Johnny from Texas, that Aaron can give Rick some pointers on just having one hand.
[00:26:22] True. He probably could.
[00:26:23] But also Rick's had that for a while now.
[00:26:25] Like when we saw him lose his hand that there were at least a couple of years after that before he goes home.
[00:26:33] So he's figured out some stuff.
[00:26:35] I might also just have cool tips.
[00:26:38] Yeah, of course.
[00:26:39] Yeah.
[00:26:40] All right.
[00:26:41] Jason Badgett says, I agree with a lot of people here that the ending was rushed and hand wavy.
[00:26:47] There's been years of setting up the CRM and it went down so suddenly and the transition of power afterwards would be way messier than the broadcast indicated.
[00:26:57] I'm not so sure about that part because the CRM was full of also bees and they were all beholden to Beal.
[00:27:07] And most of them had not heard the echelon briefing before.
[00:27:10] They just thought that they were there to protect the civic republic.
[00:27:14] And now when it came out, everything that was going on and that the head had been chopped off, you know, Beal's dead.
[00:27:21] I don't think it would have been that hard to imagine that they all just went, OK, well, we still want to protect the civic republic.
[00:27:27] Who's in charge now?
[00:27:28] It's the civilian leadership like we had been saying was going to happen all this time.
[00:27:31] Good.
[00:27:32] Right.
[00:27:33] Also, most of the organization was there.
[00:27:36] That's the other point they kept hammering home.
[00:27:38] Like even if it was a little far-fetched, it wasn't just Beal.
[00:27:41] It was all of the higher agents.
[00:27:43] It was all the people who knew the worst stuff that they were doing.
[00:27:47] Yeah.
[00:27:48] Yeah.
[00:27:49] OK.
[00:27:50] So anyway, Jason goes on.
[00:27:51] Overall, I still really enjoy the series and I am thrilled to have gotten closure to Rick and Michonne's storylines.
[00:27:57] There was definitely a period when the movies were theoretically in development that I didn't think we would ever get that.
[00:28:02] I know me too.
[00:28:03] I do kind of hate that the conclusion to Rick and Michonne's stories is in a spin-off.
[00:28:07] Me too.
[00:28:08] Someone watching The Walking Dead years from now shouldn't have to do homework to figure out that the resolution to a cliffhanger about the main character is off in another series.
[00:28:17] I see the other spin-offs as optional, but this one is essential viewing for anyone who watches the main show.
[00:28:23] Thanks for all the work you put into your coverage of the show.
[00:28:27] Thank you.
[00:28:28] I agree with that, but I also, as I've said with these spin-offs, it's kind of cool that they have some room to just focus on fewer characters.
[00:28:33] And I don't know if they would have done just six episodes with just Michonne and Rick on the main show, although maybe they would have brought some other characters in too or something.
[00:28:41] Yeah.
[00:28:42] I think yeah, it's hard to imagine how that would have panned out.
[00:28:46] Darryl would have probably been in there, right?
[00:28:48] Yeah, you'd think so.
[00:28:50] You really do think so.
[00:28:52] Yeah.
[00:28:53] John Skitt says, Hi Jason and Lucy.
[00:28:56] I just wanted to thank you for covering the ones who live on your podcast.
[00:28:59] As a huge Rick Grimes fan, I was glad to get closure if this is indeed it, as I enjoyed the ones who live more than The Walking Dead since Rick left the show or any spin-off.
[00:29:08] It was like a gift to be able to go back to a character I missed and also listen to the podcasts that were a big part of my routine years ago.
[00:29:15] My critical side also loves bald moves smack take on all things The Walking Dead.
[00:29:19] Their hilarious takes on the cheapness of an empty field reunion of a final scene is worth a listen.
[00:29:24] Okay, I will.
[00:29:25] Well, I of course think that some things could have made the ones who live, i.e. more episodes, better dialogue, etc.
[00:29:32] And forever relieved that neither Rick nor Michonne dies and we at least got an image of the whole family together.
[00:29:37] Oh yeah, RG's final line should have been because we're the ones who live.
[00:29:41] I've not watched Daryl's spin-off, but having heard good things about it and knowing Carol is joining, I may give it a go.
[00:29:47] I'd look forward to your podcast coverage as well.
[00:29:50] I agree we needed Rick and Daryl reunion, especially as he left to search for Rick.
[00:29:55] But please something more than Rick running across that same field smiling towards Daryl who's just returned on his bike.
[00:30:01] And Daryl says, I need come back. How do you know?
[00:30:04] I believed.
[00:30:06] John, I think we've just written it for you.
[00:30:10] Come on.
[00:30:12] John, watch the first episode of the Daryl show if you haven't already.
[00:30:16] I think you'll know just based on that whether you want to keep going.
[00:30:20] Yeah, and that's a really good idea.
[00:30:24] Okay, here's a call from I don't think this person left their name, but it's a call. Here we go.
[00:30:30] Hi. I wanted to call in I guess for a while now.
[00:30:35] I picked up you guys podcast during the pandemic and listen to every single episode of the podcast.
[00:30:42] Now I'm basically listening to almost all of them.
[00:30:45] So great job, guys, I guess.
[00:30:49] And when all the spin-offs started, I always wanted to call in by I guess I can't remember.
[00:30:58] I didn't have the guts, I don't know.
[00:31:00] But it's now or never, yeah?
[00:31:03] Anyway, I wish I could say something more positive.
[00:31:07] What the fuck was that shit?
[00:31:11] I mean, suspension of disbelief is one thing, yeah?
[00:31:16] It was good, okay? And the ending was very touching and nice and everything.
[00:31:21] But come on, guys, there was so much bullshit in there.
[00:31:26] I mean, like number one, Rick isn't that special.
[00:31:30] Yeah, he is. Okay, he's a great leader and he's a great fighter and everything.
[00:31:34] And he's the superhero in the story. We get this.
[00:31:37] But I mean, never in a million years would a guy like Beale let this guy into his organization.
[00:31:46] I mean, everything is about stability.
[00:31:48] The reason why the corporation moves so slowly and does decisions more risk averse
[00:31:54] is that there's just too much to lose if you risk something.
[00:31:57] And that guy is such a loose cannon.
[00:32:00] Not in a million years would you take that risk, no matter how good he is as a leader,
[00:32:05] no matter how good he is as a fighter, it's just not worth it.
[00:32:09] I mean, like with this A and B thing, I mean, it's basically like cultist handbook, right?
[00:32:15] I mean, cults never target people who are like unstable in that way
[00:32:21] because they just produce too many problems.
[00:32:24] You want people who are gullible and who can be molded.
[00:32:28] And he's so obviously you're never going to get this guy to go along with something.
[00:32:34] He's way too principled and way too disagreeable.
[00:32:38] He's way too disagreeable to ever be really excellent in any kind of hierarchical organization.
[00:32:49] I wanted to stop there and just address that before he goes on.
[00:32:52] But what accent do you think that is? French, German?
[00:32:56] French or German, but I think French.
[00:32:59] Yeah.
[00:33:00] I'm so sorry if I'm wrong.
[00:33:01] Yeah, I'm curious.
[00:33:03] I'm so sorry if I'm wrong.
[00:33:04] It sounds French to me.
[00:33:05] But I listened to this already and I've read a lot of books on cults
[00:33:13] and listened to podcasts and watched shows and stuff.
[00:33:16] And I think it's just a common myth that only gullible people fall for cults.
[00:33:22] I think a lot of really intelligent people, maybe intelligence and gullibility aren't mutually exclusive.
[00:33:28] But they target people who are seekers and idealists.
[00:33:33] And it's exactly because Rick is principled that he may have fallen into that at least somewhat.
[00:33:40] And I also think that Beale, I do agree with you that it's questionable after Rick tried to escape several times
[00:33:49] that Beale would bring him so close like that.
[00:33:52] But I also think especially at the end there when it seemed like Rick could have gotten away
[00:33:57] but chose to come back because Beale didn't know anything about Jadis' dossier.
[00:34:02] He presumed that Rick came back because he believed in the mission and everything.
[00:34:07] That that would appeal to a cult leader who was able to convert somebody like that
[00:34:11] because they see people as trophies and they want to dominate.
[00:34:13] So if he's successfully won the guy over, then he might let his guard down a little bit.
[00:34:19] So I think you're kind of right there but not...
[00:34:22] Yeah, I don't know.
[00:34:23] It's complicated for sure.
[00:34:25] It's never quite as black and white as we hope it's going to be with cults and indoctrination.
[00:34:30] And yeah, indoctrination.
[00:34:32] And when people say, I would never be taken in by something like that.
[00:34:36] I think those often are the kind of people that are the most likely to be taken in
[00:34:40] because you have to have the self-awareness to realize that people could key in on things about you
[00:34:47] that would make whatever their mission is appealing to you, you know?
[00:34:51] And if you don't even consider that as a possibility, then you could be more likely to be blind to it.
[00:34:56] Yeah, it's true. It's really true.
[00:35:00] He goes on.
[00:35:01] And I mean, this fucking economic briefing, what was that?
[00:35:05] He gave it at 2,555 times.
[00:35:08] So basically once a day the last seven years.
[00:35:12] I mean, I did basic training at a call center 20 years ago for two times a week for a year.
[00:35:19] And after month three, I wanted to kill myself.
[00:35:23] And he had that speech over 2,000 times.
[00:35:28] And then what's with the leader of the fucking organization one day before they go
[00:35:34] and do their most clandestine and brutal operation in their history?
[00:35:40] He takes the day off before.
[00:35:43] There's not any questions that he has to answer.
[00:35:46] Nobody has to talk to him about some logistical stuff.
[00:35:49] I mean, imagine that.
[00:35:50] One day before you go and drop bombs on some colony or something,
[00:35:54] the guy is there like fucking stabbing zombies through a fence.
[00:35:58] What?
[00:36:01] Obviously, because he had to be alone so nobody would miss him.
[00:36:07] So I stopped it there because he goes that was one third of the message.
[00:36:12] It's a nine minute message.
[00:36:14] Oh my goodness.
[00:36:15] He goes on pointing out a lot of the ridiculous logistical things like that.
[00:36:21] The chlorine gas was on protect protected and guarded by just one person or Rick didn't blow up
[00:36:26] when the grenade went off, things like that.
[00:36:28] All valid, I would say.
[00:36:30] And I had to play the whole call, but it was just you kind of get the idea.
[00:36:33] It's kind of long.
[00:36:34] But I've been thinking about this a lot.
[00:36:38] This kind of thing a lot given the last episode here.
[00:36:41] And I think that even though I do want the walking dead to make logical sense.
[00:36:49] That because it's a show where the enemies are slow and dumb,
[00:36:55] that they've really had to cut corners to make them seem like a believable threat
[00:36:59] a lot of the times.
[00:37:00] And maybe they're the writers are sort of in the habit of doing that,
[00:37:03] even with scenarios that don't have anything to do with zombies.
[00:37:06] Either way, there are times not just with this series,
[00:37:09] but with The Walking Dead and all the spinoffs where there's plot holes.
[00:37:13] That's why we have the Department of the Suspension of Disbelief.
[00:37:16] And I just think The Walking Dead is way more about the characters
[00:37:19] and the themes and the moments and the drama than the logistics.
[00:37:23] And I think if you put a lot of focus on the logistics,
[00:37:26] you're less likely to like this show or to think it's a good show.
[00:37:29] I mean, it does bug me.
[00:37:31] I love when shows handle the logistics well
[00:37:34] and also all that other stuff.
[00:37:36] Breaking Bad, I think, is brilliant at that.
[00:37:39] But The Walking Dead doesn't.
[00:37:40] And I still think it is really strong on character and drama
[00:37:45] that for me still makes me interested in it,
[00:37:48] even though it's less strong on this other stuff sometimes.
[00:37:51] I think that's fair.
[00:37:54] But I also very much enjoyed that voice note.
[00:37:56] Oh, yeah, me too.
[00:37:57] And anonymous listener.
[00:37:58] The passion.
[00:37:59] I could listen to that all day.
[00:38:00] I love your accent.
[00:38:01] Yeah.
[00:38:02] And we will be covering more spinoffs.
[00:38:04] So please do call in if you ever want to.
[00:38:06] We always love to hear from people.
[00:38:07] Yeah.
[00:38:08] If you're not sick of The Walking Dead,
[00:38:10] check out the Daryl show or we've been doing a rewatch.
[00:38:13] Maybe I guess you already knew that since you've been listening to the podcast.
[00:38:16] So we will call back in.
[00:38:18] OK, Nils Kortus says, What an incredibly epic score.
[00:38:23] Probably more epic than the episode deserved, but it benefited greatly.
[00:38:27] I realize I have apparently no idea how bombs work.
[00:38:30] And happy as I am with the ending,
[00:38:32] I'm sad that it's not setting up something with a little more appropriately epic,
[00:38:37] something not so obviously self-contained.
[00:38:40] My hope has been that the season would have ended with Beal's helicopters
[00:38:44] arriving in Alexandria in full force just as Rick and Michonne arrived to warn them.
[00:38:49] That'd be a great story, but it's just then you'd have to get all the other actors back and everything.
[00:38:55] Yeah.
[00:38:57] Another thing from a long discussion with a friend today,
[00:39:00] The Walking Dead had Dale, Carl, Michonne, even Rick as moral anchors in different situations.
[00:39:06] This episode showed really graphically how both Rick and Michonne crossed a line
[00:39:10] they would have set for themselves by brutally killing an unknown soldier in a long fight.
[00:39:15] That was necessary to make it clear to us that what they were about to do was OK with them,
[00:39:19] killing a huge amount of people.
[00:39:21] Interesting because I wondered why they had Rick beat that guy or sacrificing them for the greater good.
[00:39:29] In many ways, both Rick and Michonne had become Beal, Thorne, and the CRM.
[00:39:33] They used the same reasoning for their actions, did they not?
[00:39:37] But what bothered us after a day's reflection was that the show immediately afterwards gave them a happy ending,
[00:39:42] painting them as the heroes.
[00:39:44] What I loved about early Walking Dead was that it was less about the heroes
[00:39:47] and more about shades of gray, moral conundrums, and bad decisions.
[00:39:51] I know, I know this was supposed to wrap things up, and I'm happy it did,
[00:39:54] but I'm sure there would be other ways to do this without this bitter aftertaste.
[00:39:58] Or they'll be able to touch upon it in Season 2.
[00:40:01] I read a really interesting article, Nils.
[00:40:05] I absolutely probably cannot find the link, but if you Google it,
[00:40:09] you'll probably be able to find it about Rick actually being the bad guy in World Beyond
[00:40:14] in terms of not objectively the bad person, but we went into it expecting another big bad villain.
[00:40:24] And in a way what we had to contest was Rick having become part of the big bad villain,
[00:40:28] having become part of the CRM.
[00:40:30] And it was a really interesting reading of it, the idea that he was his own bad guy,
[00:40:36] that it was within himself that the real conflict was, or with himself.
[00:40:41] That's a very gray area, I would say.
[00:40:43] Yeah, I think what you're saying is really made me think of that.
[00:40:47] I mean, we talked about how maybe some of the...
[00:40:51] because all those people who were there, the way the show presented it was they were the ones
[00:40:56] who had the echelon briefing.
[00:40:58] They knew the CRM's mission was to basically kill everyone except for themselves and the Civic Republic.
[00:41:05] But the next thing is, and they chose to be there, but did they really?
[00:41:12] How many of those people would like it to be different?
[00:41:16] Exactly.
[00:41:17] And I think it's just partly a function of the rushed nature of the story that they were just like,
[00:41:22] yada yada, we don't have any choice, we have to kill them all.
[00:41:24] But I think you're absolutely right that I'm not comfortable with that anymore
[00:41:27] than I'm comfortable with Rick leading people into the Savior's compound and killing all of them in their sleep.
[00:41:33] Very true.
[00:41:34] Didi Bergeron says, oh hey Didi, thoughts?
[00:41:40] Hooray!
[00:42:04] I wish they did not have to kill all of those soldiers.
[00:42:13] Part of me wonders if some of those soldiers were similar to them ethically and deserved a chance to work under a different regime,
[00:42:19] but plot necessitated that they all blow up at once.
[00:42:34] I've been teaching elementary school for 32 years.
[00:42:45] I don't buy that those kids will forgive the CRM and assimilate.
[00:42:48] Yeah, I think they saved 10% who were the brightest.
[00:42:54] And that chimes with what we've learned in World Beyond about how they treat kids.
[00:42:59] Absolutely.
[00:43:00] And I would say that kids would be more likely to get past that such dark thought, but then an adult.
[00:43:09] But I didn't teach elementary school for 32 years, so you probably know better than I do.
[00:43:14] Well look at Judith. She forgave the man who killed her dad and he's never her dad.
[00:43:18] She loves him.
[00:43:19] Does she? No. I was wondering about this.
[00:43:23] I don't remember. Yeah, I don't know.
[00:43:25] I'm guessing not.
[00:43:27] Wait, wait, wait. Judith didn't forgive the man who killed her dad.
[00:43:30] Oh wait. Yeah, she did. Yeah, she did.
[00:43:32] Right. I was thinking of Negan for some reason.
[00:43:34] No.
[00:43:35] Yeah, I don't know if she knows that.
[00:43:38] That's funny. Maybe that'll be the next drama.
[00:43:41] Four. Someone in a feedback show suggested to Judith slash RJ and other surviving kids and why we are invested in as a possible future spin off.
[00:43:50] I find that intriguing because I love Kayleigh so much, but how would it be different from World Beyond?
[00:43:54] Five. Oh, I should have put this way at the top.
[00:43:58] I love the connection and confidence and positive sense of together we can do anything from Rick and Michonne.
[00:44:03] It was so satisfying and I almost felt like I could hear the Raiders March Indiana Jones theme song every time they were doing their thing together.
[00:44:11] Oh Dee Dee, what a great email.
[00:44:14] Yeah, it was just for Michonne at first but then Rick came around.
[00:44:19] Yeah he did.
[00:44:21] Okay, here's a call from Robin about the episode.
[00:44:25] Robin, our friend.
[00:44:26] Hey y'all, good morning. It's me, Robin from Georgia.
[00:44:29] First of all briefly, I don't listen to the pod or read the responses online until after I've watched the show and recorded my comments.
[00:44:40] So I thought it was really interesting that last week somebody else saw the same notes between Jadis' death and Andrea's death that I had seen.
[00:44:49] I felt like they were so similar. So that was really interesting to me.
[00:44:53] The scenes between Beale and Rick, so tense and amazing.
[00:44:59] You know, Beale being so mesmerizing.
[00:45:02] You could understand why people were drawn in and committed even though his vision was so horrific.
[00:45:09] And then interspersing that with Michonne seeing the briefing about Portland and only about 10% of the children were going to be able to be saved.
[00:45:21] That was very, very tense for me too.
[00:45:26] It did surprise me that Beale didn't have Rick searched since they were going to be in there by themselves.
[00:45:31] But I guess Rick had managed to fake him out enough so that he trusted him, which was interesting because then Thorn, I was a little mystified by her because I thought the clues that they were giving us through her thoughts and looking out the window weren't really enough for her to have put everything together.
[00:45:53] And ended up right there at the spot where Rick and Michonne were.
[00:45:59] But I guess even though he came back when he was free, she had never trusted Rick's motivations.
[00:46:07] And so him coming back didn't change that. She was able to put it together.
[00:46:13] I loved Michonne in the freight elevator. Is this yours? What's in it?
[00:46:18] That was a nice little moment.
[00:46:20] No matter when or how much Carl is on the screen, I cry.
[00:46:26] And when Beale asked Rick, what's the worst thing you've ever done before he could even say anything, I immediately said out loud, oh, tearing that guy's throat out with his teeth.
[00:46:36] Joe's throat out with his teeth. That was clearly the worst thing.
[00:46:40] I was a little bit disappointed about checkoffs later not showing up.
[00:46:45] But I guess it was okay because Michonne mentioned Nat and rigged the explosives somehow in a way that he had taught her about.
[00:46:56] Never really thought Rick and Michonne were going to be in danger, but I'll tell you what, when he was swarmed by those walkers, that tension was really, really high too.
[00:47:06] And I found myself covering my face going no, no, they're not. They can't do it.
[00:47:11] But then he surprised everyone by, of course, having a grenade in his pocket that he saved himself with just like he saved everyone at the CDC with the grenade.
[00:47:21] Loved that. The kids running toward him and Michonne, so that really got me.
[00:47:28] I'm not going to lie. I cried a little bit at that.
[00:47:31] Especially Judith looking just like Judith and also a lot like Carl, but looking older like she would if several years had gone by.
[00:47:43] That was really, that was a moment. I really did love that.
[00:47:48] Unfortunately, RJ has not improved that much at all.
[00:47:54] A couple of the lines were a little bit cringy, especially when he said I believed.
[00:48:01] And I kept thinking to myself in the universe of kids in Atlanta, biracial kids, how did they end up with that one?
[00:48:11] I'm sure there must have been many, many kids to choose from.
[00:48:15] So that was a little bit like, oh God, RJ, you're just so awful.
[00:48:20] But it ended like it had to. They had to make it home.
[00:48:23] They had to make it home. The series started out with Rick trying to find his family and not getting home, but getting back with them and making the family whole again.
[00:48:36] And he and Michonne, as improbable as it seemed, they really needed to get home too.
[00:48:42] So all in all, I really liked it. Like the whole series, the whole six episodes.
[00:48:48] It had some flaws as the Walking Dead often does, but overall I think it was really good.
[00:48:56] And I enjoyed it a lot. I just keep thinking Rick is such a compelling character.
[00:49:05] Michonne is too. And Andrew Lincoln embodies him so much.
[00:49:08] It's just we really somehow they have to work him back in.
[00:49:12] It's just not the same without him.
[00:49:15] And so since we're not going to talk for a while, probably, I don't know when Daryl Dixon is coming back.
[00:49:21] I'll give you a zombie sound. I'll see if I can do that.
[00:49:24] Amazing. Here we go.
[00:49:27] Cut off. You got to do it again.
[00:49:32] It was a little tease. Loved it.
[00:49:35] That's funny. Awesome, Robin. Glad you called in.
[00:49:38] You're not watching the rewiring. I thought Robin was maybe not watching.
[00:49:42] I thought we had Robin. Robin, come back to us.
[00:49:45] Okay. Amy from Brisbane says, I love this episode.
[00:49:51] I had some nitpicks, but I'm not going to mention them because they pale in comparison to the relief I felt at Rick and Michonne making it home.
[00:49:58] Yes. I was truly expecting someone to die and was so shocked to see the kids.
[00:50:03] I cried like a baby. I have a few points.
[00:50:07] To me, the echelon briefing was perfect in its simplicity.
[00:50:10] It was the CRM wanting to kill everyone because some old white guy thought he knew best.
[00:50:15] A reflection of many of society's and history's problems.
[00:50:18] We as a species are greedy and flawed.
[00:50:21] It was predictable, but 100% believable to me.
[00:50:24] I also think that only Terry O'Quinn could have delivered those lines so perfectly, especially when he was looking straight down the camera speaking so clearly and calmly.
[00:50:33] It was brilliant. Yeah, I agree.
[00:50:35] During the echelon briefing, Beale mentioned the CRM has spies and embeds all over the world.
[00:50:40] Do you think we could see some of these spies in Daryl Dixon?
[00:50:44] What do you think?
[00:50:46] I think so. I think so.
[00:50:48] I do. I do.
[00:50:49] And I'm still rooting for a horrid sweet spin-off about this.
[00:50:52] But yeah, I think we could get some nods to those kind of embed ideas.
[00:50:56] I think it would be really interesting.
[00:50:58] Even though this was kind of an ending to the threat of the CRM,
[00:51:02] you think they could make something that they would?
[00:51:05] I think so. I think they could reference it.
[00:51:07] You could meet someone who once was that but hasn't heard from him in a while or something like that.
[00:51:11] Yeah, I think there can be like a spare.
[00:51:14] Yeah. She goes on.
[00:51:16] Flying into helicopter on the way back, I noticed Michonne had her original phone, which means Rick did keep all of her things.
[00:51:22] He didn't burn them.
[00:51:24] Because we saw him throw stuff in the fire.
[00:51:28] So yeah, I love the idea that Judith will get to read Michonne's journal one day as I had theorized.
[00:51:35] Yeah, I didn't think about that.
[00:51:37] Oh, that's cool.
[00:51:38] At the reunion, Rick asks RJ how we knew that Rick would come home and RJ said, I believed.
[00:51:43] Is this something that Carl also said to Rick way back in season one after Rick found him and Lori at the campsite?
[00:51:49] No.
[00:51:51] Oh, probably.
[00:51:53] I don't think so because they didn't have gimpily dialogue back then.
[00:51:57] I'm also thinking about Judith, what you're saying about her getting Michonne's journal.
[00:52:01] If Judith took on a bit of comic book Sophia's storyline, she could end up writing the story.
[00:52:07] Oh yeah.
[00:52:08] Of what happens because Sophia in the comics writes children's books about the brave things that happened in the zombie apocalypse.
[00:52:16] Yeah.
[00:52:17] I was reading Eric Kane's review of this episode, you know, my friend at Forbes.
[00:52:23] We do love him.
[00:52:25] We love him.
[00:52:26] And he was talking about how the reunion, the dialogue was so gimpily and it did make me like it less because he pointed out that if you saw, you know, your family for the first time in the sunset, I knew you'd come back.
[00:52:42] You'd probably just give them a hug and say I missed you or I love you or something.
[00:52:46] I missed you too buddy.
[00:52:47] How?
[00:52:48] I believed, you know.
[00:52:49] How did you know?
[00:52:50] And now bringing up about whether that came up in the reunion with Carl and Laurie back in season one.
[00:52:57] No, they just saw each other and he said dad and then they hugged like a normal fucking person would do.
[00:53:03] Like a normal fucking person.
[00:53:08] I've just spent three days with my niece who's three and can confirm they talk like normal people.
[00:53:16] Amy's had one last point.
[00:53:17] Lastly, I really enjoyed the CR news voiceover at the end.
[00:53:20] It reminded me of blockbuster movies when the disaster has been averted.
[00:53:24] Thanks Jason and Lucy.
[00:53:25] I love listening to the podcast and watching the show alongside you guys.
[00:53:28] Cheers. Thank you, Amy.
[00:53:30] Really nice.
[00:53:31] Aww.
[00:53:32] That was lovely, Amy.
[00:53:33] Yeah.
[00:53:34] Danielle Demed-Yost, our friend says this might be a stretch, but I find myself wondering if there was any significance to the room number on Jadis' door 613.
[00:53:43] Season 6 episode 13 was the same boat when Carl and Maggie are being held captive by surviving saviors immediately after a group went in and killed a bunch of them in their sleep.
[00:53:53] In that episode, Carl and Maggie struggle with the fact they may not be the good guys in the scenario.
[00:53:58] And Carl later decides to leave because she had to kill to protect Maggie and doesn't want to kill anymore.
[00:54:03] In the last time we see Rick and Michonne take down the leadership of the CRM to prevent their work to, according to their calculations, possibly save the human race from extinction.
[00:54:14] There is a similar question of whether they are really the good guys or if they are prioritizing their loved ones over the future of humanity.
[00:54:21] And is that really wrong?
[00:54:22] But I may be reaching with this connection.
[00:54:24] Not sure.
[00:54:25] Some other random thoughts.
[00:54:27] Beale goes away to be by himself the day before a major TESCA event in the same way Jesus did in the Bible.
[00:54:33] Michonne's lockpicking skills that she developed while living in the department store with Nat came in handy getting into Jadis' apartment.
[00:54:40] She says Michonne was brutal with the CRM soldier who came into Jadis' apartment.
[00:54:44] I don't know if I've ever seen that type of aggression from her before.
[00:54:47] They're extracting special kids like they did with Hope and World Beyond and killing everyone else.
[00:54:52] It's interesting to have seen it from both sides now.
[00:54:55] As for Rick's walker pile, I liked it better on rewatch.
[00:54:58] Rick pulls the pin out of a grenade on the body of a walker so I guess he had enough protection behind the walkers themselves to survive.
[00:55:05] I have no personal experience with grenades but I know heroes jump on them to sacrifice themselves and save others in movies all the time.
[00:55:12] So I presume that's roughly how strong the grenades really are.
[00:55:15] I also noticed it's very much a recreation of the scene in season 7 episode 12 Say Yes when Michonne thinks Rick has been taken down by walkers and drops her katana in shock before she realises he's okay and they have a big hug.
[00:55:28] The walker behind Michonne at the fence during her sneaking in was walking so much faster until it came into focus around the corner.
[00:55:36] Then it started dragging its left foot and moving much slower.
[00:55:39] The actor may not have realised he was fully in frame that whole time.
[00:55:43] I will miss Rick again but I'm satisfied.
[00:55:46] If we get to see him reunite with Daryl it will be a lovely bonus.
[00:55:49] Thanks for the coverage and love to you both.
[00:55:52] Oh thanks Danielle.
[00:55:53] Thanks Danielle.
[00:55:54] Really good to have you writing in and watching along with us for all this.
[00:55:58] Isn't it just?
[00:56:00] Alright here is a call from our good friend Jonathan Bookalil.
[00:56:04] Hello Jason and hello Lucy.
[00:56:07] Well it looks like The Walking Dead has come to an end.
[00:56:10] Seems things have all been wrapped up.
[00:56:13] I must say I've enjoyed the series very much as it captured The Walking Dead feeling almost perfectly.
[00:56:18] The only weak episode I thought was episode 4.
[00:56:21] Rick's character seems off more like Jake Grimes.
[00:56:25] His reactions seem weak, mean and dismissive to not only Michonne but to his son that he just found out about.
[00:56:32] His arguments seem flimsy and it felt like an unreliable narrator telling the story.
[00:56:37] As if we'd find out later this was Michonne telling Carol her version of events and we get Rick's version later.
[00:56:43] Jake was just wrong about everything and all his motivations were selfish.
[00:56:47] It could only be bad writing.
[00:56:49] Imagine my reaction when I found out on the podcast that Danai had written it.
[00:56:54] The room, the crumbling building, the walk of fights all felt a little surreal adding to my suspicion.
[00:57:00] This was where Happy Wife, Happy Life seemed like a bit of a threat.
[00:57:05] But let's get to the final episode.
[00:57:08] As I'm sure you're aware just down the hall from the Department of Suspension and Disbelief there is also the Department of Plot Convenience.
[00:57:16] Of course Jade has found them.
[00:57:18] However, the trail of tasteful nude rappers would go against all their operational security
[00:57:23] and taking their main road home would go against all their instincts.
[00:57:28] Let alone finding random supplies at this stage.
[00:57:31] Let alone finding bumbling doofuses this far into the Z age.
[00:57:35] Must all the men be creepy idiots?
[00:57:37] No one is pissing themselves from fear at this point.
[00:57:40] Let alone would all three reds turn at the exact same time.
[00:57:44] Let alone would the gas, a pivotal part of the grand plan, be left unguarded.
[00:57:49] I could go on.
[00:57:50] But it turns out Rick was right to turn Michonne away and compel her to go back to their group.
[00:57:56] No matter how disappointed Michonne was, Jade did have a letter.
[00:58:00] They were planning to gas everyone and I maintain Rick told her to leave not because of who she is
[00:58:07] but because she was going to get everyone killed.
[00:58:11] And if Darryl had turned up and defiantly and recklessly insisted on being an A,
[00:58:16] when being an A would get everyone killed, Rick would have sent him packing too.
[00:58:20] I thought the proposal was touching.
[00:58:22] Especially as Michonne graciously accepted.
[00:58:25] Episode 4 Michonne would have been insulted.
[00:58:27] In fact the idea of getting married is committing to a future and one where community matters.
[00:58:33] An idea which those in the ZA really need.
[00:58:36] To wrap up, Chekhov's sword was deathly used.
[00:58:40] Zombie Johnlock was hilarious.
[00:58:42] The grenade timer was unnecessary but fantastic.
[00:58:45] And all turned out for the best.
[00:58:47] Everyone got gassed and died horribly.
[00:58:50] Rick and Michonne were united with their son and Shane and Laurie's daughter
[00:58:54] in a random field with no one else there.
[00:58:56] A bro hug from Darryl however would have left me in mess.
[00:59:00] As rushed as it was, I can't believe they managed to close it out quite well.
[00:59:05] I'm not sure if there will be a season 2.
[00:59:07] Maybe you'll see President Michonne and First Man Jake conquering the world
[00:59:12] for their own benefit and power.
[00:59:15] Muahahaha!
[00:59:18] Thanks again for the great coverage.
[00:59:21] Wouldn't be the same without you.
[00:59:23] And to all the listeners, join the Patreon group.
[00:59:26] Just five bucks a month and come on over to the Facebook group.
[00:59:29] It's great fun.
[00:59:31] And one last thing, here's how an Aussie zombie sounds.
[00:59:35] Miiiiiiiite!
[00:59:37] Hahaha!
[00:59:42] Thanks Jonathan.
[00:59:43] Aww Jonathan.
[00:59:45] Let's see, the couple points.
[00:59:47] All the men must be creepy idiots.
[00:59:50] They're not all creepy idiots.
[00:59:51] A lot of them are.
[00:59:52] But Nat is not at all a creepy idiot.
[00:59:55] Oh Nat.
[00:59:56] Yastaban, you know, they have a mix in there.
[00:59:59] Justice for Nat.
[01:00:00] Yeah.
[01:00:01] And yeah I think you're right that Rick did what he did with Michonne
[01:00:05] because he thought that he was trying to prevent her from getting everyone killed.
[01:00:09] But what he forgot is that they can do anything together.
[01:00:12] And she ended up being right about that.
[01:00:16] You can do anything.
[01:00:18] That's what I learned.
[01:00:20] Anything else?
[01:00:21] No?
[01:00:22] Okay.
[01:00:23] Nope.
[01:00:24] Always nice to hear from Jonathan.
[01:00:25] Alright, next is Anya who says,
[01:00:28] I'm so conflicted the ending was so good and I'm so glad we finally have a happy ending in The Walking Dead.
[01:00:33] Especially Richonne and the kids.
[01:00:35] They deserved it.
[01:00:36] But I'm so sad that it's over.
[01:00:38] Yeah, I know how you feel.
[01:00:40] I was really sure we were getting a season two based on the last episode.
[01:00:44] My predictions were so wrong.
[01:00:46] Hahaha!
[01:00:47] I was just way wrong.
[01:00:49] We just got Rick back.
[01:00:51] And I'm sad the storyline is over.
[01:00:53] We may see some kind of reunion in Dead City since it's in the future
[01:00:57] and Rick should have been back for a while.
[01:00:59] And we're for sure getting a Daryl and Rick reunion.
[01:01:01] I don't care, they owe us that much.
[01:01:03] I was feeling kind of meh about the briefing
[01:01:05] but Jason made me understand a bit more even to why would they kill so many people
[01:01:10] if they say we're all dead in 14 years.
[01:01:13] Again, they want all bees and people who won't question them.
[01:01:17] This still isn't a good enough excuse to murder so many people
[01:01:20] if they 100% believe in their statistics.
[01:01:23] What I really don't get is why were Thorn and Jadis hyping it up so much to Rick
[01:01:28] telling him everything will make sense after he gets it.
[01:01:31] I get Jadis wanted to feel included and needed a group that would last
[01:01:35] but killing everyone is basically the same thing that happened to her trash group.
[01:01:42] Ah, caught it.
[01:01:44] It's been two weeks. I'm fuzzy on some of the details
[01:01:47] but I think the point was just we're all going to die in 14 years
[01:01:51] if we don't do something and we think the way to do it is to kill everyone who may be a threat.
[01:02:00] That does seem like the overall...
[01:02:03] The gist.
[01:02:04] She goes on, also Thorn was on Okafor's side
[01:02:07] but when she got the briefing it was so life changing to her
[01:02:10] she said she isn't Okafor and that the CRM is the way to go.
[01:02:14] But I'd say Okafor's plan to change everything from the inside
[01:02:16] is much better than just killing a bunch of civilians and children.
[01:02:20] I'm really confused as to why she thought it was such a good plan.
[01:02:23] I guess she was too wrapped up in the cult mindset
[01:02:25] and everything the leader says is perfection in her mind.
[01:02:28] Yeah, he convinced them that they had to do this to save humanity
[01:02:31] I think was the point whether we think that makes any sense or not.
[01:02:35] I feel the CRM was hyped up for so long
[01:02:37] and they deserved a better ending as well.
[01:02:39] Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy Rick and Michonne are alive
[01:02:42] and saved so many people
[01:02:43] but if the whole military can be beat by two people in a single day
[01:02:46] maybe they shouldn't have been presented as such a threat.
[01:02:49] It makes it look like the saviors or whispers were a much bigger issue
[01:02:53] than the group with weapons, bombs, chemical warfare, helicopters, etc.
[01:02:58] I mean I kind of agree but this was supposed to be the bad guys of the group
[01:03:03] so it's a much smaller percentage
[01:03:04] and they all just happen to be in one area where they could easily be handled all at once.
[01:03:09] The music, most of the writing, the acting and the love for this project from Andy and Danai made it perfect.
[01:03:15] I'm sad it's over but I'm so happy they were on my screen for six weeks
[01:03:19] and seeing Rick and Judith healed something in me.
[01:03:22] I'm so glad you guys covered this
[01:03:24] and as I said already, you always make me aware of things I missed.
[01:03:27] I'm so sad this is the last The Ones Who Live listener feedback.
[01:03:31] I'm not okay. Sorry this was long.
[01:03:34] I'm shutting up now but thank you guys so much Anya.
[01:03:36] Well thanks Anya.
[01:03:38] Oh Anya, I love the vibes everyone's giving.
[01:03:41] I love how much people really appreciated and enjoyed this.
[01:03:45] It's really making me happy.
[01:03:47] Yeah, very nice.
[01:03:49] Here's our friend Jodie Morell.
[01:03:51] Jodie.
[01:03:52] Hi Lucy and Jason and our beloved guest hosts who may be on The Feedback Podcast.
[01:03:57] Jodie from Australia here with my feedback for The Ones Who Live.
[01:04:00] I watched the finale a day or so ago and I can't stop thinking about it and the whole series.
[01:04:05] This was the spin-off that I was the most sceptical about.
[01:04:08] When the show started, Andrew Lincoln was pitching it as a family show
[01:04:12] and Rick as a man devoted to his family.
[01:04:14] Because of that, I just couldn't imagine anything big enough
[01:04:17] to stop him from coming back to his family and Alexandria.
[01:04:20] But the series completely delivered
[01:04:22] and I love the culty aspects of the CRM that was shown,
[01:04:25] the conditioning that Rick went through
[01:04:27] and how hard he fought to get home before they broke him.
[01:04:30] I think they knocked the series out of the park
[01:04:32] and I can't wait to do a re-watch on the weekend.
[01:04:35] There's been some comments about the amazing Terry O'Quinn being underutilised in the series,
[01:04:40] but I think episode six made up for that.
[01:04:44] The tight focus on his face when he's giving Rick the echelon briefing was incredible.
[01:04:48] And I found the way he was looking at us and his voice as he spoke, completely mesmerising.
[01:04:54] That kind of made me understand how the echelon briefing was persuasive,
[01:04:58] but it definitely wasn't the message and words that were being said.
[01:05:01] The logic behind that briefing was quite fallible and I didn't buy any of it.
[01:05:05] But I would have been in for Terry O'Quinn if he looked at me like that.
[01:05:08] I also wanted to share with you my theory about the name of the series,
[01:05:12] The Ones Who Live.
[01:05:13] I don't think it's live as in alive or dead.
[01:05:16] I think it's a reference to the ones who lived their lives
[01:05:18] and not only survive, they fall in love, they create beautiful friendships.
[01:05:22] They have adventures, they have babies, they adopt dogs in the woods and create supportive communities.
[01:05:27] They live.
[01:05:28] I had this thought when the camera flashed on Glenn's picture during episode five,
[01:05:32] because if anyone lived well, our beloved Glenn did.
[01:05:35] Finally, I wanted to thank Christina Jones for her feedback about microaggressions in episode four.
[01:05:41] I was really annoyed with Michonne being told to make herself small in the series.
[01:05:46] And if I hadn't already known the CRM was evil, I would have realised it right then and there.
[01:05:50] But as a woman who's always been told to be quiet and make myself smaller my entire life,
[01:05:55] I assumed my irritation was down to personal experience and my love for Michonne.
[01:05:59] She's been my favourite character since we met her in season three.
[01:06:02] And I really liked that she was respected for her strength and intelligence the entire show.
[01:06:06] But Christina mentioning microaggressions made me realise it was a part of my irritation that bordered on anger.
[01:06:13] And I didn't understand that it was a microaggression that was making me angry.
[01:06:18] Until you pointed it out, it's clearly evidence of my own privilege.
[01:06:22] So I've done some research and I have a book list of things to read and educate myself on the topic.
[01:06:26] So I'm not going to miss something like that again in the future,
[01:06:29] whether it's aimed at one of my favourite characters on TV or one of my friends in real life.
[01:06:34] Thanks, Christina. I appreciate you.
[01:06:36] Hope this isn't too long.
[01:06:37] Thanks for the podcast and the listener feedback has been amazing the entire show.
[01:06:41] Thanks, said heads.
[01:06:43] I'm glad you thank the other listeners.
[01:06:45] That's cool.
[01:06:46] Oh, I love that, Jodie.
[01:06:47] And I loved Christina's message also for what it made us think about and consider.
[01:06:51] Yeah, keep listening.
[01:06:53] Keep writing in.
[01:06:54] We always love hearing from you.
[01:06:55] Yeah, I was annoyed at that too about telling Michonne to be small.
[01:07:02] And I also saw it as the smart thing to do because it's kind of like Luke Skywalker going into the Death Star
[01:07:12] to save to find Princess Leia and he had to wear a stormtrooper suit.
[01:07:17] And if you said don't take your helmet off, they're going to know it's you.
[01:07:20] You know, it was kind of like that.
[01:07:22] Like you need to be inconspicuous basically.
[01:07:26] But it was also it's tied in with that whole thing about telling someone not to shine,
[01:07:32] which I fucking hate whether it's a man or a woman.
[01:07:34] But yeah, women are told to make themselves smaller.
[01:07:37] Yeah, it's so hard.
[01:07:41] Jack from St. Louis says, I just started listening to the podcast last year
[01:07:48] and I'm always so excited when you release so I can listen while I get ready for the day.
[01:07:52] I've been doing my own rewatch and enjoying the old episodes with Karen and the new ones with Lucy.
[01:07:57] This is my first time writing in, so I want to do a quick shout out to you both.
[01:08:01] Lucy, I was so excited to be able to find that other women enjoy this show.
[01:08:05] Yeah, we do.
[01:08:06] When I first started dipping into the Walking Dead fandom,
[01:08:09] I was disappointed but not surprised to find just a bunch of men talking about how hot Maggie is or the awesome zombie kills.
[01:08:15] I was like, someone please talk about the redemption arcs.
[01:08:18] Thank you for your humor and perspective and for not being afraid to disagree with Jason.
[01:08:23] I can't wait to hear what your book is about.
[01:08:25] My book is about how hot Maggie is and the awesome zombie kills.
[01:08:28] She is hot. We don't disagree about that.
[01:08:31] That's pretty funny.
[01:08:34] Oh, Jack. Thank you for that.
[01:08:37] Jack goes on. Jason, I appreciate your character analysis and I often find myself agreeing with you about characters that no one likes or being happy when a beloved character shows flaws.
[01:08:46] Thorne, Jadis Huck, etc.
[01:08:48] Awesome.
[01:08:49] Sometimes I think people especially don't like these characters because they are women in power with flaws, but I digress.
[01:08:54] I was late to the Walking Dead train.
[01:08:56] I only started watching the Walking Dead in 2022.
[01:08:59] Oh my gosh.
[01:09:00] And I rarely go a week without consuming something from the Walking Dead universe.
[01:09:04] I've never gotten into deep fandom, but the Walking Dead has brought a whole new side of me.
[01:09:09] You maybe even convinced me to try and watch fear again just so I can get the references.
[01:09:13] No, no, don't do that.
[01:09:15] Don't do that, honey.
[01:09:16] Walk away.
[01:09:17] Walk away.
[01:09:18] Please for your own good.
[01:09:20] Now the episode.
[01:09:22] I decided to send an email because I'm still crying about the reunion.
[01:09:26] It felt like the true finale episode.
[01:09:28] I'm sure some fans will say it was cheesy or rushed, but I'm so glad they wrapped it up and gave us the moment we've been waiting for since the bridge.
[01:09:35] They still had me on the edge of my seat.
[01:09:37] My mouth dropped open when Rick stabbed Beel through his hand.
[01:09:42] I wonder how far the kids from World Beyond made it.
[01:09:44] They're going to show up to Portland with their work already finished.
[01:09:47] I kind of hope so for them.
[01:09:49] Like I hope that they get the job.
[01:09:51] We need to see that.
[01:09:52] They can tack that onto the admin episode you were talking about.
[01:09:55] Right?
[01:09:56] I just see the explosion and they're like, want to go crash them all or something like that.
[01:10:00] I don't know.
[01:10:02] Jack goes on.
[01:10:03] My favorite part of the series was that they consistently called back to past episodes in the original characters, especially in this episode.
[01:10:10] Although I hate when a favorite character dies, it gives the remaining characters depth and makes them have to find more reasons to keep living.
[01:10:17] They draw on the strength of those who've passed on.
[01:10:19] We see this in Rick this episode.
[01:10:21] Carl is not truly gone because he lives on through Rick and the way he decides to show up in the world and his relationships.
[01:10:27] I think Michonne even asked him, what would Carl want you to do?
[01:10:30] I'm not a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prepper, but I do recognize that we are likely nearing the end of life as we know it on this planet.
[01:10:37] We have some big decisions to make regarding our own apocalypse and survival.
[01:10:41] Will we weed out those who are weak or who have different values, ideas than us?
[01:10:45] Will we let our fear of others drive us?
[01:10:48] Will we recognize evil when it tells us it's the only way to survive?
[01:10:52] Will we turn to love and justice in a dying world or will we give up?
[01:10:55] Will we be Michonne or Thorne?
[01:10:57] Will we be Jadis and never be able to make a decision?
[01:11:00] Will we be like Rick and recognize when we've given up, allow ourselves to heal, face our fears and get back to the fight?
[01:11:07] I think apocalyptic fiction gives us a great opportunity to think through the big questions and some mantras and lessons for how we exist in reality.
[01:11:16] This is what I'm taking away from this series.
[01:11:18] Love never dies, even in a dead world.
[01:11:21] Those who are separated from us through time, space or death never truly leave us.
[01:11:25] They can give us wisdom and strength and hope.
[01:11:28] You are never too far gone for healing, change and love.
[01:11:32] Will we be the ones who live?
[01:11:34] Thanks all, Jack.
[01:11:35] P.S. I also thought I was the only black woman in the world who loved these shows.
[01:11:39] Your podcast has helped me feel more connected to the fandom by hearing other black women call it in.
[01:11:44] Thank you for making a space that feels accessible to all kinds of fans.
[01:11:48] I hope others feel the same.
[01:11:50] This email has like made my week.
[01:11:54] I mean, the part where you said I recognize we're likely nearing the end of life as we know it on the planet.
[01:12:01] We have some big decisions to make regarding our own apocalypse and survival.
[01:12:06] I really don't want that to be true, but I think it needs to be said whether it's true or not so we can face it and do something about it.
[01:12:14] Absolutely.
[01:12:15] We can agree more.
[01:12:17] Jack, please keep listening and keep writing in.
[01:12:20] I think finding your community in fandom is such a...
[01:12:25] It's like a big breath of oxygen after being stuck underground for a really long time.
[01:12:30] So stay with us.
[01:12:31] There's so much more to come.
[01:12:34] All right.
[01:12:35] Final call about the ones who live.
[01:12:37] The grand finale, Thomas from Arizona.
[01:12:40] Oh, Thomas.
[01:12:42] Hi, Jason.
[01:12:43] Hi, Lucy.
[01:12:44] It's Thomas from AZ.
[01:12:47] Well, I have to say Sunday was a very hard day for me.
[01:12:52] It was very challenging.
[01:12:54] I was emotionally overwhelmed with just some personal matters.
[01:13:00] And I was feeling very down and exhausted.
[01:13:06] And I didn't think I was ready to watch this episode, but I knew in my heart that there was just a possibility to have the happy ending I needed to have for me to move on with my day.
[01:13:19] So glad it ended up in that way.
[01:13:22] Watching the episode, you know, they fucked with us, man.
[01:13:28] Oh, they did.
[01:13:30] I just knew in my heart they just couldn't let us down with taking away Rick or Michonne.
[01:13:37] I have said that from the jump and that's only because Danai and Andrew had a hand at writing this story.
[01:13:45] And with it being a love story, and I was just thinking about the fans and the fandom.
[01:13:50] And there's no way they could fucking let us down.
[01:13:53] They're not going to do that to us.
[01:13:55] They're not going to do that to us.
[01:13:57] And I was still a little skeptical.
[01:14:00] I was nervous.
[01:14:01] I was thinking I didn't know.
[01:14:03] I was like Michonne might not make it.
[01:14:05] But when Michonne said love doesn't die.
[01:14:14] Something inside of me changed.
[01:14:18] I needed to hear that that day and hearing it from Michonne or Danai impacted me greatly.
[01:14:29] And when she said that, I knew we were in good hands.
[01:14:36] And it really summarizes the show.
[01:14:39] Right?
[01:14:40] Like the fans, us who deserve that happy ending that stuck through thick and thin.
[01:14:47] We never gave up.
[01:14:49] We never gave up on the show.
[01:14:52] A lot of people did.
[01:14:54] Not us.
[01:14:55] We did not.
[01:14:56] And neither did they.
[01:14:57] And I really think that's what The Walking Dead is all about.
[01:15:02] Love doesn't die.
[01:15:04] And you guys have made such an impact on this community of people.
[01:15:12] Thank you so much for loving this show and the fandom so much to keep bringing us content
[01:15:20] and creating such a beautiful community of diverse people together because we all enjoy fucking zombies.
[01:15:30] But at the end of the day, love doesn't die.
[01:15:33] That's the story of The Walking Dead.
[01:15:36] But with that being said, fuck yeah!
[01:15:39] We got our happy ending!
[01:15:42] Oh my god!
[01:15:45] I was losing my shit.
[01:15:47] Okay?
[01:15:48] Like I was losing my shit when the helicopter and they were on the helicopter.
[01:15:54] And then I was thinking, oh my god, no way.
[01:15:57] No way they're not doing it.
[01:15:58] No way they're not doing it.
[01:15:59] And then the next shot we get those little fucking feet on the floor.
[01:16:03] I know!
[01:16:04] And I'm like, no way!
[01:16:05] Is it for real?
[01:16:06] And I just start sobbing.
[01:16:08] And then we get the run in and total like, oh!
[01:16:14] The embrace and like, little RJ, I hear that.
[01:16:18] I hear that.
[01:16:19] Brave man.
[01:16:20] Yes, he's the brave man, little RJ.
[01:16:23] Oh my god!
[01:16:26] I was in tears and they were the most happiest tears I've cried.
[01:16:30] And it was so cathartic.
[01:16:32] I needed that that day.
[01:16:34] And I was thinking about you guys and all of us fans.
[01:16:37] And I know we were all losing our shit.
[01:16:39] It was so amazing.
[01:16:41] You're right.
[01:16:42] Anyways, I know I'm running way over.
[01:16:45] Love you guys.
[01:16:47] And I can't wait till the next time I bid you adieu.
[01:16:53] That was a grand finale.
[01:16:55] I love him.
[01:16:56] I love you, Tom.
[01:16:57] You always make my day when you call.
[01:17:00] And I hope whatever was hurting your heart is healing.
[01:17:04] And whether it's through time or something else.
[01:17:07] Yeah, love doesn't die.
[01:17:08] I've been thinking about that a lot recently.
[01:17:10] It is true.
[01:17:13] It is true.
[01:17:14] So yeah, that was brilliant.
[01:17:22] Thank you for watching.
[01:17:53] Before we get into some interview stuff with Gimple, DenyGuerrera and Andrew Lincoln about the series and the finale.
[01:18:02] I just want to mention this new series came out.
[01:18:05] It's called Fallout.
[01:18:06] A lot of you might have heard of it.
[01:18:08] Have you heard of it?
[01:18:09] Fallout?
[01:18:10] I am so excited to watch it.
[01:18:12] We've been so busy.
[01:18:13] We haven't had a chance and I can't wait.
[01:18:15] It's really fun.
[01:18:17] It's about the video game.
[01:18:19] It's done by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan who did Westworld.
[01:18:23] And there's a lot of money in it.
[01:18:25] You can tell it's very stylish.
[01:18:27] It puts all these disparate elements together of tones and styles.
[01:18:32] It's wholesome, but also dark and brutal and campy too.
[01:18:36] It's funny.
[01:18:37] It's a post-apocalyptic sci-fi western basically.
[01:18:41] And I've seen half of it.
[01:18:43] Jenny and I watched it and we're really digging it.
[01:18:45] I'm bringing it up because me and Ben and my friend Doug are going to do a single podcast
[01:18:50] episode on Fallout.
[01:18:52] We're recording this Saturday so it should be out next week on House Podcastica.
[01:18:57] If you guys have been watching that show and wondering if we're going to do a podcast
[01:19:00] on it, we were going to do a podcast about the show like we always do every episode.
[01:19:05] But since they put them out all at once, we're just going to do a single episode
[01:19:08] because we know people are probably binging it.
[01:19:10] Yeah, that makes sense.
[01:19:12] It's kind of a bummer though.
[01:19:13] I wish they would have done it weekly.
[01:19:15] Yeah.
[01:19:16] So it also stars the woman who was in one of the girls from Yellow Jackets.
[01:19:23] Jackie.
[01:19:24] Yeah, Jackie.
[01:19:25] Ella Purnell.
[01:19:26] Ella Purnell.
[01:19:27] She's great.
[01:19:28] And Wade Boggins, I forget his name, a guy from Justified.
[01:19:32] It's got a good cast.
[01:19:36] Michael Emerson who played Ben on Law of the Law.
[01:19:39] Oh, is he?
[01:19:40] Oh, exciting.
[01:19:41] So salon.com talked with Scott Gimple.
[01:19:44] I just took this one question and answer that I thought were interesting.
[01:19:48] They said, and the thing about Beal is he seems very reasonable.
[01:19:52] He breaks down the numbers and he's very clear in his mission saying things like
[01:19:56] this is not a time for freedom, emphasizing that the CRM has to take care of their
[01:20:01] own.
[01:20:02] It made me wonder whether anything going on in the world that is not a time for
[01:20:07] freedom.
[01:20:08] He says, Scott Gimple said I had a rueful chuckle there and it's only because some
[01:20:12] ways I wish that it came from the world rather than like we're doing this thing.
[01:20:16] I mean really in my mind this was the ultimate expression of Shane's point of
[01:20:20] view from the first two seasons.
[01:20:22] It's a very basic, very basic thing of pragmatism.
[01:20:26] But that's where some of the worst acts of humanity have come from.
[01:20:30] Pragmatism.
[01:20:31] Now I do believe that the most important thing to think about is the
[01:20:35] Now I do believe, and this is important, that Beal believes the information he had
[01:20:40] was correct.
[01:20:41] That doesn't even let him off the hook.
[01:20:43] Not a bit.
[01:20:44] But I think what we face in the world today is oftentimes a manipulation of the
[01:20:48] facts or looking away from the facts to benefit one side.
[01:20:51] And you know that's one of the biggest challenges we have as humans moving
[01:20:55] forward is just all of us living in the same reality.
[01:20:58] Obviously I think anybody who watches the show would agree there's a real
[01:21:01] existential threat to living in that world right?
[01:21:04] And that's what makes the story interesting to me.
[01:21:06] Are you holding to your humanity or are you not?
[01:21:09] Then with what Jada says, what Beal said, they feel like they're being benevolent.
[01:21:13] That's what I find fascinating about bad guys like that is they think they're
[01:21:16] the good guys.
[01:21:17] I think we're facing something in the world that's a little different now.
[01:21:20] There's a lot of manipulation towards people's own ends.
[01:21:23] I do think Beal was a horrific character but I did believe he wanted to
[01:21:26] save the world.
[01:21:27] It's pretty interesting.
[01:21:29] But I love how he especially compared it to Shane's viewpoint of pragmatism.
[01:21:35] You know, absolutely.
[01:21:38] It is kind of like the final realization of that, isn't it?
[01:21:41] Yeah, it is.
[01:21:42] But then what a few listeners said is like, well, weren't Rick and
[01:21:46] Michelle being pragmatic by killing all those soldiers at the end?
[01:21:50] Wasn't that great?
[01:21:51] It was really swift.
[01:21:54] They talked, Entertainment Weekly talked with Scott Gimple, Zanae
[01:21:58] Guerrero and Andrew Lincoln.
[01:22:00] In one article they asked them whether there would be more seasons of the
[01:22:04] show, and Scott Gimple said it's definitely going to go somewhere but it
[01:22:09] might just be in my brain.
[01:22:11] It might just be my fan fiction.
[01:22:14] And they pressed him as to what would determine whether that story in his
[01:22:18] brain would actually make it just the screen, and he said so many
[01:22:22] different things, everything from schedules to the stuff itself.
[01:22:25] You never know, but right now there's nothing on the table except my little
[01:22:28] fan fictions I write in the evening for myself.
[01:22:30] That seems really sad.
[01:22:32] Aw, buddy.
[01:22:34] Andrew Lincoln answered that by saying, well, look, it was so wonderful
[01:22:38] to work on.
[01:22:39] I mean, the character is a beloved character and also to work opposite
[01:22:42] Zanae and to reunite these people and get the Grimes family unit back
[01:22:46] together was thrilling.
[01:22:47] And they asked, well, does that mean you're on board for season two?
[01:22:50] He said, never say never.
[01:22:52] There are other very important characters in the universe that are still
[01:22:55] wandering around and alive, and I think it might be quite exciting to have
[01:22:58] them breathe the same air and see how long they survive together.
[01:23:01] But it's a difficult one.
[01:23:02] It would have to be like this, a really exciting story.
[01:23:05] I think what we've achieved in this series was hopefully a few surprises
[01:23:09] and character turns and sequences that we haven't seen in 13 years
[01:23:12] before.
[01:23:13] That was the exciting proposition to chop my hand off, to get back
[01:23:16] together with the love of my life and be reunited and hopefully smash a
[01:23:19] few windows along the way and meet some great characters.
[01:23:21] That was thrilling that we did episodes and sequences that I'm intensely
[01:23:24] proud of, and we haven't seen before.
[01:23:26] If that were to come out of Gimple's or Deny's brain and it was
[01:23:29] irresistible, then I think there's infinite chance that it might happen
[01:23:33] again, but I don't know when.
[01:23:34] So basically he's just saying maybe if there's a good story, you
[01:23:38] know.
[01:23:39] And what a good position to be in for that.
[01:23:42] I trust them to make good decisions about what stories are worth
[01:23:45] it.
[01:23:46] Yeah, as long as they don't just get desperate for money like someone
[01:23:49] said.
[01:23:50] Yeah, if I see that answer, like Kim needs a new bathroom or something,
[01:23:53] I'll be like, oh.
[01:23:54] And then Deny Guerrero said ditto and it seemed like she was going
[01:24:00] to leave it at that.
[01:24:01] But then she said, listen, we couldn't be more thankful for the
[01:24:04] response about this series.
[01:24:05] It's been so, so, so incredible.
[01:24:07] Our goal is that we proposed a premise around these characters
[01:24:10] seeing it through to each other.
[01:24:12] I'm proud of our creative choices in the way we stuck to our guns
[01:24:14] about various things and making sure that we tried as hard as we
[01:24:17] could to stay a few steps ahead of what the audience might be expecting
[01:24:20] next.
[01:24:21] We didn't take any easy roads on this and thankfully it's paid off.
[01:24:25] So my sense is Gimple is gung ho to do it, that Lincoln is tentative.
[01:24:30] But if it's great story and preferably reuniting Rick with others
[01:24:34] that he would be into it.
[01:24:35] But I feel like Deny in particular is my predictions and things
[01:24:40] like this have been so wrong lately that I'm doubting myself.
[01:24:44] But my sense of her is that she sees this as an ending for the
[01:24:49] character and that she wants to move on in her career and is ambitious
[01:24:54] and wants to go to the next level.
[01:24:57] And I think, you know, a lot of times if you can be successful
[01:25:02] being in movies or writing for bigger things that it can actually be
[01:25:06] bad for your career to keep doing the thing that you were doing, you
[01:25:09] know?
[01:25:10] So I don't blame her at all.
[01:25:11] If that's where she is, who knows?
[01:25:12] But that's my sense of it.
[01:25:14] She's never saying, yeah, let's do more.
[01:25:16] She's always like, no, this was the end.
[01:25:19] I do feel that maybe to be honest.
[01:25:23] Okay.
[01:25:24] So more.
[01:25:25] I mean, there's some good interview stuff just about the finale in
[01:25:30] the series.
[01:25:31] So entertainment Weekly said, tell me about deciding on this family
[01:25:35] reunion as the final scene.
[01:25:37] You know, basically how did you guys know it was going to be here?
[01:25:41] The whole be like that the whole time.
[01:25:43] How did you decide?
[01:25:44] Gimple says to my recollection, that was the ending we were working
[01:25:47] on the journey to and we were working on the journey to that.
[01:25:51] And deny career said it definitely was that we were journeying
[01:25:55] towards that ending.
[01:25:56] There was definitely never an idea like let's be a tragic ending.
[01:26:01] That was not on the table.
[01:26:02] I don't think at any point was always like, how do we get them
[01:26:05] together?
[01:26:06] How do we bring Rick is happy ending and machine her happy ending.
[01:26:09] That's what I recall.
[01:26:10] And your Lincoln said, yeah, I think it would have been a bit of
[01:26:12] a gut punch if we'd done six episodes, got everybody back
[01:26:15] and then killed them both.
[01:26:16] I mean that would have been a bit rude.
[01:26:21] And I love that.
[01:26:22] They said, well, you guys pretty much killed everyone else.
[01:26:27] I mean, okay, for Beale net Thorne, Jadis Gimple says, yeah,
[01:26:31] you're right.
[01:26:32] Lincoln says that is true.
[01:26:33] They said, well, was that by design to up the body count in the
[01:26:36] last few seasons of The Walking Dead?
[01:26:37] We didn't see as consistently as big a body count as we saw
[01:26:40] here on this show.
[01:26:42] Andrew Lincoln said, I think we sort of backed ourselves into
[01:26:44] a corner really.
[01:26:45] I think the whole gas idea, we just relied on Scott to work out.
[01:26:48] So it's Scott's fault.
[01:26:50] He says, I will say that so many characters died along the
[01:26:53] way because it was a story about Rick and Michonne and it
[01:26:55] was so focused on them.
[01:26:56] It didn't seem like we could serve them further.
[01:26:59] The deaths of those characters individually affected Rick and Michonne
[01:27:02] so deeply.
[01:27:03] So those deaths, they were not for shock value or a body count.
[01:27:06] It was a little bit more aspiring to Joseph Campbell stuff.
[01:27:10] Nobody means by that.
[01:27:11] They said, speaking of people you killed off tonight,
[01:27:14] you had your big fight scene with Leslie and Brandt as
[01:27:17] Thorne.
[01:27:18] You've talked about how this being a love story was really
[01:27:20] important to you.
[01:27:21] So tell me about sort of capping that off with the
[01:27:23] love doesn't die line.
[01:27:25] She says, well, firstly, I was very annoyed with that
[01:27:28] little poker I had to use versus my sword.
[01:27:31] That's just a wound I will internally carry about our
[01:27:34] finale.
[01:27:35] So just putting that out there.
[01:27:36] I've heard her say that in other interviews too.
[01:27:38] And I think just the fact that she didn't get to use
[01:27:41] the katana might make it more likely that we will see
[01:27:44] Michonne again so that she can end by chopping someone's
[01:27:47] head off or something.
[01:27:50] She says, but Gimple said this the other day that
[01:27:53] Leslie did such a great job as Thorne and that she
[01:27:55] represented the Shane thing.
[01:27:57] And even though she does come to redemptive place at
[01:27:59] the end, which Shane kind of doesn't.
[01:28:01] So that's sort of the idea of these very differing
[01:28:04] perceptions of how the world works and the idea that
[01:28:06] no matter what's happened, no matter what we've gone
[01:28:08] through, no matter what has been experienced, our
[01:28:10] love, if anything, got stronger.
[01:28:12] So it doesn't die.
[01:28:13] It doesn't get diminished by the world's
[01:28:15] circumstances or by any dilemmas or traumas that
[01:28:17] come our way.
[01:28:18] And it stood the test of time.
[01:28:19] That's her belief system.
[01:28:21] And it's proven itself to her.
[01:28:23] I'd like that she even knows who Shane is, that
[01:28:27] Danai Gurira apparently, because she wasn't on the
[01:28:29] show at the same time as him.
[01:28:31] Danai Gurira understood the assignment.
[01:28:34] They thought Thorne was going to be the one to
[01:28:40] actually make it out alive.
[01:28:41] But you all killed her like you killed everyone
[01:28:43] off.
[01:28:44] I guess maybe Esteban is still out there
[01:28:45] somewhere, but that's about it.
[01:28:47] Gimple says, I mean, the title is The Ones
[01:28:49] Who Live.
[01:28:50] And then Andrew Lincoln said, we should have
[01:28:51] just said, we're the only ones who live.
[01:28:53] We are the only ones who live.
[01:28:54] I like that.
[01:28:55] The only ones who live.
[01:28:56] Andy, tell me about filming this big scene
[01:28:58] with Terry O'Quinn with him giving you the
[01:29:00] lowdown on their plans and the fight scene
[01:29:02] that finishes it off.
[01:29:04] He says, I loved it.
[01:29:05] The reason why I came across to this country
[01:29:07] was to work alongside and learn from people
[01:29:09] like him.
[01:29:10] And it was just a joy.
[01:29:11] As you know, he's one of the sweetest,
[01:29:13] coolest dudes I've ever met.
[01:29:14] We bonded on Joni Mitchell randomly.
[01:29:16] He's got the most beautiful hair on the
[01:29:18] planet.
[01:29:19] He's got the most beautiful hair on the
[01:29:21] planet.
[01:29:22] He's got the most beautiful singing voice
[01:29:24] and he plays the guitar.
[01:29:25] He's just one of those dudes.
[01:29:27] And he walks up with 43 pages of monologue,
[01:29:29] nails it every time.
[01:29:30] Then you have a couple of anecdotes in
[01:29:32] between sets and off he goes again.
[01:29:34] He allowed me to bruise his skin terribly
[01:29:36] with a fake sword, which I felt really
[01:29:38] sad about.
[01:29:39] He had really bad bruising the next day
[01:29:41] and I felt terrible.
[01:29:42] We thought he wasn't going to do much
[01:29:44] that much fighting and he was absolutely
[01:29:46] game for all of it.
[01:29:47] He's a maniac and I love him to bits.
[01:29:49] I think we couldn't have wished for a
[01:29:51] person to be charismatic, conflicting,
[01:29:53] a pragmatist, but also a little
[01:29:55] unhinged.
[01:29:56] He sort of threaded the needle of all
[01:29:58] of those so perfectly.
[01:30:01] Well said.
[01:30:03] They said, I want to get back to the
[01:30:05] final scene.
[01:30:06] I know Scott was on strike then so
[01:30:08] couldn't be on set.
[01:30:09] But Andy and Danai, what was it?
[01:30:11] What it was like filming that final
[01:30:13] scene.
[01:30:14] Take me on set for that day.
[01:30:15] Danai said, it was a very awesome
[01:30:17] day.
[01:30:18] It was also intense.
[01:30:19] It was a happy day for both characters
[01:30:21] interestingly and I thought it was very
[01:30:23] special.
[01:30:24] There was something awesome about seeing
[01:30:26] both Kaylee and Anthony.
[01:30:28] Anthony, he's a lovely young man.
[01:30:30] That's RJ.
[01:30:31] He can be very reserved but he
[01:30:33] really opened up with Andy, which
[01:30:35] was really special to see.
[01:30:36] It was perfect.
[01:30:38] For the character of RJ, this guy's
[01:30:40] been looming around like this absent
[01:30:41] father.
[01:30:42] And as an actor, he's never met
[01:30:44] him.
[01:30:45] Anthony was really fascinated by him
[01:30:46] and was joking on him and giving
[01:30:48] him a hug.
[01:30:49] It was really just a great rapport
[01:30:51] they had, which was kind of poetic.
[01:30:53] I just saw him open up in a way I've
[01:30:55] never seen so that was really,
[01:30:56] really special.
[01:30:57] Kaylee's always fantastic and just
[01:30:59] right on the money and she's always
[01:31:01] so incredible to be around.
[01:31:02] So it was a really great day.
[01:31:03] It was an emotional day in the
[01:31:05] sense that I wanted it to be a
[01:31:06] great day for our characters and it
[01:31:07] really turned out to be so.
[01:31:08] It was an intense day in a good
[01:31:10] way.
[01:31:11] And Andrew Lincoln said, yeah, it
[01:31:13] was wonderful.
[01:31:14] The last time I saw Kaylee, I was
[01:31:15] high-fiving her in the trailer
[01:31:16] for season nine and she was just
[01:31:17] joining.
[01:31:18] Then I see how accomplished an
[01:31:20] actor she is.
[01:31:21] She was just, as Danai said,
[01:31:23] every single take so grounded, so
[01:31:25] moving.
[01:31:26] There's always an expectation of
[01:31:27] the last scene, the last line,
[01:31:29] just to make sure that we were
[01:31:30] focused and enjoying ourselves and
[01:31:31] quite free.
[01:31:32] That was really important.
[01:31:33] I think Anthony saw through my
[01:31:35] beard and realized I was more of a
[01:31:37] child than he was.
[01:31:38] And probably that's why we got on
[01:31:40] quite well.
[01:31:41] But it was a lovely day after
[01:31:42] quite an exhausting shoot.
[01:31:44] It was towards the end.
[01:31:45] It was one of those wonderful
[01:31:46] scenes and it's something that
[01:31:47] we've spoken about for years,
[01:31:48] that reunion.
[01:31:49] So it was glorious to finally do
[01:31:50] it.
[01:31:51] That just reminds me of when I
[01:31:52] took Nico backstage at
[01:31:53] Walker Stalker London when he
[01:31:55] was like five years old or
[01:31:57] something.
[01:31:58] And I just said, hey, Andrew,
[01:32:00] here's my son.
[01:32:01] And he knelt down and started
[01:32:03] talking to Nico.
[01:32:04] And Nico was like paying a lot
[01:32:06] of attention, you know?
[01:32:07] And I was like, oh, that's so
[01:32:09] nice.
[01:32:10] I hope I didn't impose, you
[01:32:11] know, like make him feel like
[01:32:12] he had to do that.
[01:32:13] No, that's lovely.
[01:32:14] It was really nice.
[01:32:15] There was some footage that I
[01:32:17] think didn't air of like the
[01:32:19] Grimes family having a picnic
[01:32:20] like it was on.
[01:32:21] Oh, I know.
[01:32:22] I've seen videos and I'm like,
[01:32:23] oh, I would have liked to
[01:32:24] have seen that picnic.
[01:32:26] It is cool.
[01:32:27] Let's see.
[01:32:30] Yeah, there's a little bit
[01:32:31] more.
[01:32:32] They say we've talked a lot
[01:32:33] about what it was like
[01:32:34] coming back to the role after
[01:32:35] being away for a few years.
[01:32:36] But what did it feel like
[01:32:37] after you wrapped those six
[01:32:39] episodes?
[01:32:41] Deny Guerrero says we were so
[01:32:42] exhausted that it was just
[01:32:43] about sort of getting your
[01:32:44] bearings back.
[01:32:45] A lot of that.
[01:32:46] But we were so deeply
[01:32:47] involved almost right away in
[01:32:48] some degree of post-production.
[01:32:50] I remember my last day, I
[01:32:51] just had to do some little
[01:32:52] tiny things, but I wanted to
[01:32:53] finish with Andy.
[01:32:54] So I was getting sentimental
[01:32:55] near the end.
[01:32:56] And he's like, what's the
[01:32:57] big deal?
[01:32:58] I'm like, no, I want to
[01:32:59] finish on the same day.
[01:33:00] So I came back and did some
[01:33:01] really unnecessary inserts.
[01:33:02] I mean, they were necessary,
[01:33:03] but they could have been
[01:33:04] done another day.
[01:33:05] Then I was just in the
[01:33:06] parking lot having a conk out
[01:33:08] with the crew and smoking
[01:33:09] cigars.
[01:33:10] I was like, oh, I'm going
[01:33:11] to finish on the last day
[01:33:12] of that.
[01:33:13] We had to do some
[01:33:14] unsmoking cigars while Andy
[01:33:15] was stuck.
[01:33:16] Oh!
[01:33:17] He says I had to
[01:33:18] fucking cut my hand off
[01:33:19] again while you were
[01:33:20] partying in the trailer
[01:33:21] with most of the crew.
[01:33:22] She said Andy was being
[01:33:23] moved from one intense
[01:33:24] scene to the other intense
[01:33:25] scene to the other.
[01:33:26] It was emotional ping
[01:33:27] pong.
[01:33:28] Oh, that's what
[01:33:29] Andrew Scott這邊
[01:33:30] said.
[01:33:31] Deny Guerrero says that
[01:33:32] was the day they were
[01:33:33] telling him he had to
[01:33:34] cry into a letter and he
[01:33:35] was writing.
[01:33:36] And he says yeah, that's
[01:33:37] right.
[01:33:38] They said we want seven
[01:33:39] tears on to the camera
[01:33:40] onto the camera lens now.
[01:33:42] Scott Gamble said, you were cutting off your hand,
[01:33:44] you were stabbing walkers in a fury,
[01:33:46] building up to an emotional explosion,
[01:33:48] and then yeah, you were weeping over a letter.
[01:33:50] Danai says, I was literally smoking cigars.
[01:33:53] It was really funny.
[01:33:54] Andrew Lincoln says, you were smoking cigars
[01:33:55] and having drinks.
[01:33:56] She says, eating pizza and champagne.
[01:33:58] I felt bad for him.
[01:33:59] I was having a blast.
[01:34:00] Scott Gamble said, I was picketing in New York,
[01:34:03] so a wild array of experiences.
[01:34:05] Lincoln said, it was a wild ride.
[01:34:07] Excellent.
[01:34:09] Excellent.
[01:34:11] ["Skyfall Theme Song"]
[01:34:15] All right, that is our show, episode 577.
[01:34:18] Thanks for listening, everybody.
[01:34:20] Thanks for following along.
[01:34:21] If you listened to the feedback,
[01:34:22] which I guess if you're hearing my voice,
[01:34:24] you did, thanks so much.
[01:34:26] Thanks for making this such a fun season to cover,
[01:34:28] like a fun show to cover.
[01:34:29] I've really loved it.
[01:34:30] It feels like the magic is still alive.
[01:34:32] Yeah.
[01:34:33] Which is wonderful.
[01:34:33] Yeah, if not for the feedback
[01:34:36] and the interaction and all that,
[01:34:38] it would have been fine.
[01:34:40] It would have been great.
[01:34:41] I love podcasting with Lucy,
[01:34:43] but it just adds so much
[01:34:45] and makes it such a bigger,
[01:34:46] more communal thing like that.
[01:34:48] So good.
[01:34:49] Absolutely.
[01:34:51] So next episode will be
[01:34:53] that Alex Garland movie, Civil War,
[01:34:55] which is in theaters now.
[01:34:56] So I recommend, I saw it.
[01:34:58] I liked it.
[01:34:59] It's disturbing.
[01:35:00] It's not what you think.
[01:35:01] I really thought it was gonna be one thing
[01:35:03] and it was something else.
[01:35:06] But if you don't mind dark stuff,
[01:35:07] I mean, you watch The Walking Dead.
[01:35:09] It has some similarities to The Walking Dead
[01:35:13] in my opinion, even The Last of Us a little bit more.
[01:35:15] So yeah, that's what we'll be talking about next.
[01:35:19] Exciting.
[01:35:20] If you want to write in

[01:35:29] Fallout will be coming soon on House Podcastica.
[01:35:33] And I wanted to mention the extraordinary cast
[01:35:36] with Greg and Penny.
[01:35:37] The Extraordinary is a really funny
[01:35:39] adult superhero TV show on I think Hulu
[01:35:43] and it's a blast.
[01:35:45] Season two is so good.
[01:35:46] We just finished it last week.
[01:35:47] It's so good.
[01:35:48] I can't wait to listen.
[01:35:50] This episode is made possible
[01:35:52] by Patreon supporters like Sean Murney,
[01:35:55] who pledges support at patreon.com slash Jason Kabassi.
[01:35:57] So thank you to Sean.
[01:35:59] Later this month,
[01:36:02] Zed heads and our Facebook group
[01:36:05] and I'll invite other Patreon people too.
[01:36:06] We're doing a call in show with a theme,
[01:36:09] Revolutionary Women in Music
[01:36:11] where everyone can bring a song
[01:36:12] from a female musical artist to play.
[01:36:14] I thought of it because I was in Cleveland
[01:36:16] for the Eclipse and we visited
[01:36:18] the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum
[01:36:22] and it was really, really cool.
[01:36:23] And they had this revolutionary women in music exhibit
[01:36:27] that was really awesome.
[01:36:28] Amazing.
[01:36:29] That's coming up.
[01:36:30] Can I bring Pache Smith, please?
[01:36:33] Absolutely.
[01:36:33] You bring whatever you want as long as it's sung by women.
[01:36:36] Excellent.
[01:36:38] All right.
[01:36:39] That is our show.
[01:36:40] Thanks for watching.
[01:36:41] Don't get bit, Christina Jones.
[01:36:44] Well, with that being said,
[01:36:46] fuck yeah!
[01:36:48] We got our happy ending.
[01:36:50] Oh my God!
