β€”

Wow, this slow-burn show picked up the pace in the second half of season three, and we’re totally digging it (pun!). Thrilling to see so many questions answered, and new ones raised, and to find out that the final season isn’t too far away β€” July 9, 2007! Join Jason, Veronica, and Amelie as we get into all the details of the second half of Silo season 3, maybe our favorite segment of this series so far.

Also on Wax Episodic:

We cover these other intelligent, engaging, oftentimes delightfully twisted series:

  • Severance (Apple TV): A mind-bending show where office workers’ minds are severed into two selves, one that exists only at work, and the other only outside. It’s beautiful, brilliant, funny, gripping, mysterious, thrilling, thought-provoking, and meticulously crafted in every way. Hosted by Jason and Karen’s innies.
  • Fallout (Amazon): A crazy retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic melange of wholesomeness and depravity. One of the best looking shows on TV, funny as hell, violent AF (but in a cartoony way), with a great cast, including Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones). Not to be missed! Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Kasi.
  • Pluribus (Apple TV): Everyone is transformed into a pleasant hive mind β€” except for Carol (Rhea Seehorn), the most miserable woman on the planet, who must save the world from happiness. It sounds weird, and it is… in the best way. Created by the great Vince Gilligan, of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Hosted by Jason and Karen.
  • IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO): A fun, scary, and surprisingly great prequel to the 2016 and 2019 IT movies, with Pennywise stalking the children of 1962 Derry. A mix of heart, mystery, charm, and some shockingly disturbing Nightmare on Elm Street-esque horror. Cohosted by Shawn of Strange Indeed.
  • Alien: Earth (FX): From the brilliant Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), this one really scratches that sci-fi itch. A greedy corporate tech overlord transfers the consciousness of a group of terminally ill children into highly performant synth bodies. And the Xenomorph is in it, too. Also, Tim Olyphant! Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Randy.

[00:01:30] Hmm? Ah! Hmm. ChatGPT Uh, Silo 1, top of the berm. Yeah, can you get to that raised area around your silo? The signal might be better. Almost there. The silo... It's so fucking weird. It's so deep you can't see the bottom, and there really aren't any fucking elevators.

[00:02:00] Hello? I can't... I'm coming to 1. So just stay there! No, no, no, no. I'm coming to 18. You're at 18? I can't, I can't see you. I'm coming to 18, just stay there. Okay, okay, I can hear you. I can hear you. I got a text from Charlotte that... I don't know, I don't think she wrote it. Who wrote it then? I think I see you. Wave? To your right. Look for the big red dot.

[00:02:31] Hey. Hi Congressman. Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast. I'm Jason. And I'm Amiri. And I'm Veronica. And this is Wax Episodic.

[00:02:54] And this episode, we are covering the second half of season three, the Apple TV series, Silo. Silo. We covered the first half earlier, a few episodes back in the feed, and also the first two seasons before that. Kind of confusing on different podcasts, but if you go to podcast.go.com and search Silo, you can find all those with links to the podcast platforms, or I will also put a link in the show notes for that.

[00:03:24] And, uh, we're, as always, we're going to go through each episode here. We'll read the summaries. We'll say a few thoughts about each one. And, uh, we just did that for about 40 minutes and then I realized we hadn't hit record. So luckily the first episode is the least interesting of the five and we're, we should just skip over that. No, I'm just kidding. We'll talk about it. No, we need to talk about the elevator, right? Yeah. We got to talk about that extensively.

[00:03:51] Um, so, uh, what do you want to read it again? Amelie? I would love to. Great. Take two. Okay. Season three, episode six, the drive. Juliet tells Lucas Walker and the others about Silo 17, how Silo 17 blocked their safeguard, safeguard pipe. Upon revealing her returned memories to Camille, Juliet gets permission from the legacy for two

[00:04:20] people to bring the Silo 17 survivors to Silo 18. But the volunteers secret mission is also to learn about the safeguard, safeguard pipe in Silo 17. Juliet is only able to volunteer Lucas and Patrick to go as Camille and the legacy want them to die in the attempt. Pressured by Juliet's actions, uh, Camille has the memory suppression drugs immediately delivered into the Silo water system.

[00:04:49] Billings recruits Hank into the Orla investigation, telling him about the critical supply issue that leaves their Silo only two years of usable light bulbs for farming. Billings and Hank check into the Silo security footage, which shows Glenda Hardwood, the previous shadow of supply, at two places at once during the gassing of the mines.

[00:05:13] In the past, Daniel and Helen are brought to a hangar where Terman is waiting for them and ask if they want to help self save the world. By blowing it up, potentially. Oh, I have a lot to say about that later. Yeah, we'll get to it. But, uh, did, so Camille, I think she actually did have vitamin D plus put into the water supply, right? Yeah. Yep. We need some of that.

[00:05:42] So we can't remember what we said before and then it'll be the first time. Um, but, uh, we didn't see anyone start forgetting though. That's why I was a little confused about that. No. Mm-hmm. Because at some point someone tells Juliet, you should just drink orange juice or wine or whatever. Okay, I'll go with wine. That's why she's drunk for the second half. But, um, we didn't see anyone else and someone else said it would start happening immediately. So that was a little bit weird.

[00:06:10] And nobody was like jumping off the railings or anything, you know? But I think like, I wonder if at first it's just like you're foggy, right? Like, I can't remember yesterday real clearly. Maybe. That's just normal. I know. I was going to say, I think that's becoming my normal daily life. I want to, um, just briefly go through one of this topics that we talked about the first

[00:06:35] time we tried to record this, but didn't hit record, which is just so we can get it on, on the recording, which is, um, the whole Orla investigation. I was saying that's probably my least, uh, favorite story through all this to the point where I barely even understood what was going on the first time I watched. But the second time I watched, I figured out that, uh, Knox's father a while back at some

[00:07:03] point had gotten out of the mines by someone died in a cave in or something. And he convinced the leader of the mines, uh, that guy Harwood to let him, uh, take the guy's place. And in exchange, he was a brilliant engineer, but he was stuck in the mines because he was an asshole. As Knox said, kind of love that.

[00:07:26] And he created an elevator for Harwood, which then our Harwood used to steal the light bulbs. For some reason, Harwood says it's because there was this rebellion and he was afraid that they were going to get, uh, stolen or messed with. Mm-hmm . But that sounds like BS to us. And maybe the light bulbs will come up in a future thing. Although now I think that everyone's on the same page seemingly in the silo

[00:07:52] cause Camille came around at the end that it seems like, um, and also they know that Harwood took the bulbs. It seems like they would say, Hey, where's those light bulbs so we can put it back in the supply. But I don't know. Anyway, I, I really felt like the whole point of that story was to have a little filler intrigue in there, but also introduce the idea of this elevator that the characters could then use to like carry out their plans to, uh, cap this safeguard pipe and stuff like that.

[00:08:21] And it was really fun to see them use an elevator because it's really exciting when you've never used an elevator before, especially in a silo where you have to take the stairs all the time. Yeah. And I think what Gus says, uh, when he's, he first, uh, try the first tries the elevator that it feels like his ass like up his stomach or like along those lines. Anyway, I can't remember exactly, but something like that. Yeah.

[00:08:51] Um, it was funny. Yeah. And it was kind of cool. Like he's never used it before and he was just like a little kid. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. We, we only talked about it for five minutes this time. I know. Yeah.

[00:09:33] What else? Um, we talked about, okay. So I think we should sort of repeat what we were talking about before you, uh, Amelie asked if we thought we bought Daniel and Helen as a couple more and Veronica had an interesting point. Yeah. I was just saying that I, I don't know if I'm just too easily swayed because you pointed it out, but I feel like I, uh, it's fine.

[00:10:01] It's not a big deal, but I just don't buy their chemistry together. Like it's sort of distracting. And then I actually saw an interview. So out of show interview of the two actors, and it was just sort of an awkward interaction where the interviewer was asking them if there were any scenes they would go back and refilm a different way.

[00:10:25] And the actress who plays Helen was very quickly about to say like, not really, or something along those lines. And at the same time, the actor who plays Daniel was like, sort of like, well, there's that one scene you did or something. And it seemed like he was joking. Like he seemed serious. It just felt awkward. And it sort of made me wonder if some of their lack of initial chemistry is that they just don't have great chemistry in real life. Yeah.

[00:10:54] That's what it felt like to me. But I do like both of them. And I think independent of that, they're good. It felt like the characters were written in a rom-com and given the parts given to two actors who don't like each other that much. Yeah. Who the hell knows? But now that you told me about that interview, it kind of goes along with my story that I made up in my head. I could totally be wrong.

[00:11:20] But then the kind of funny part is I actually did buy them more in these episodes, especially after they kissed and they were together as a couple. And then when they were, you know, she was pregnant with the ultrasound and everything. And then at the end when he was really worried about her and they were talking to each other, both at the silos, but different ones and the explosion went off and I was pretty bought into them as a couple by then. So I'd kind of forgotten any reservations I had about it. Yeah.

[00:11:48] I'm bought in enough to the storyline that it's fine. And I like them both enough as actors, but it's just sort of funny to me now that I like see it that I just like, I don't know. She was one of the sands in Game of Thrones. Yep. One of the sisters. Oh my gosh. I didn't realize that. She was like much younger back then. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:12:11] And she was, she was in, uh, Iron Fist, which wasn't a great show, but she was good in it. Jessica Henwick. Uh, I love that whole scene with them being stuck together in a van, a self-driving van. And as Amelie said, it was like, they actually got a first date. And, uh, I was saying that these days their plan was to sit in the back of the van because

[00:12:38] somebody would pull them over seeing a van driving itself, but not these days. Like that's more and more common to see around San Francisco. I've ridden in a couple of them. It's kind of fun, but kind of forget about it after a while. Yeah. And also like when they're in the car, I think we learn, I feel like these slower episodes, like the first two slower episodes of like the back end of the season, like they're also setting up like character development or like just telling us more about the characters.

[00:13:04] So it makes more sense what happens later on. And, um, we learned about Helen, um, that actually like the fraud or whatever, like the journalistic fraud was like actually not a fraud. Like she was protecting a source and she was actually like very loyal, um, and doing your job properly. I think I would have liked it better if she was a crook, but it's fine. It would have been fun, but it would be a different story.

[00:13:34] But I think it's going to come into play, like to jump further ahead. Like she's going to be stuck in silo 18. And I don't think like, I don't know if she's going to get the memory drug of what's going to happen, but she's not going to be the quiet one. Like she's going to be a Juliet Nicole. She may just be gone. Like, I don't know if we're going to get her story. I hope so. But all these people in silo one get to do the whole cryosleep thing, but she's an 18,

[00:14:01] which explains why the pets dispensers in 18. But, um, we skipped ahead, you know, a few hundred years. So I will see. I'm not saying she's going to be alive when Juliet is alive, but I'm saying she's going to be stirring shit up. She may be, but I'm just saying we may not get to see that because we've already skipped over that story. And I hope we do. Like, I want to see what happens when all these people are at what's supposed to be a

[00:14:30] silo tour and a bomb goes off and then they go inside the silos and they'd be like, uh, that timing's a little suspicious. You know what I mean? But, um, but who knows if we'll even get that story. I mean, I hope so. I didn't mean to shut down your point, but I was already thinking about it. Like wondering if we're ever going to see her again, like maybe not because Daniel gets to do the whole, the cryosleep thing, but I don't know if Jessica does or not Jessica. Um, Helen.

[00:15:00] I feel like I just keep coming back to like, why Daniel and Helen, like, why do they want them so much in this project? And some of it is probably proximity, like their proximity to Charlotte. The fact that Helen was sort of already uncovering a lot of this. Daniel obviously has the history with the diggers and, um, he's a, is he a senator or a representative? He's a politician. Like he obviously is like a successful leader of people.

[00:15:29] Um, but something about Helen's story and later it's revealed that like the people involved in this of course know her whole story and what she was protecting. And it made me reflect on why they tell Camille she's been chosen. And it's because Camille can lie very well. And essentially Helen did that well also.

[00:15:52] So, so significantly that she hurt her own future and career by lying to protect someone out of loyalty. And so I think it even like, I think it will probably come up to play also in what you're saying, Amelie, but I think it also helped me with another reason maybe why they thought Helen was a candidate to like bring into their inner circle, um, during this like past timeline,

[00:16:20] because she has some of those characteristics that they're still looking for in leadership in the silos, however many hundreds year later. Well, I think they wanted Camille because as the head of it, you need to be able to lie to people with Helen. I was wondering the same thing as you, especially because if you want to have this environment where you're trying to breed out curiosity so people don't keep asking questions and then

[00:16:48] you bring in a reporter that doesn't make sense. But at some point somebody, I think it was Thurman said to when they were trying to convince Helen and Daniel to come aboard. I think it was that I forget. She said, you are going to be the one to tell the story of the silo. So I think they stuck that line in there to try to explain why Helen, because I was also wondering. Yeah, but it could have been any reporter that they pulled in. Yeah, it could have been anyone. Like why Helen?

[00:17:17] But feed your enemies closer than your friends. And I think there is a little bit of that in there. Like they know that she won't stop asking questions or looking, so might as well just get her on their side. Yeah. Also like to... I mean this whole thing with bringing in Daniel and Helen at the end of last season, and they tell us that Daniel's an engineer. And so you're, that had to do with digging even, I think. And so you're thinking, oh, maybe he'll be an architect of the silo and that's why we're following this guy.

[00:17:47] And then they bring Helen and Daniel in. They go to all the trouble of putting them in this nano tech directed self-driving thing and taken to a hangar, flown out to the silos, signing NDAs given a million dollars each. And then they both go, nah, we don't want to be a part of it. And I'm like, God, we wasted a lot of time, money and energy on these two. Do they do that with every single person they bring in?

[00:18:15] And then I'm like, well, why are we following them in this story? Then Daniel's not an architect of the silo. But I, my answers, my only answers to that question, which I asked myself is like, they helped us. They were good characters for us to learn about the silo and everything. And also, like I said, Helen, they said she could tell the story.

[00:18:42] And I think more with Daniel, they wanted his engineering prowess. But Dr. Srinkovich keeps suggesting that he's special in some other way. Like you see things that other people don't, and I really want you to be a part of this. And then at the end, we see that he's turned into Troy and he's just coldly dictating how to carry out these safeguards, even in new ways that are more brutal than they'd done before without any emotional attachment.

[00:19:07] And I wonder if Srinkovich somehow thought, oh yeah, you, you are a good person for this job too. Like, I feel like that's still a mystery. And I think a lot of why he does that is because he's all drugged up. But anyway, it's a good question to wonder why are we watching these two, you know? And I feel like we don't fully have the answers yet, but that's my best guess at an answer. Why? Yeah, I had the same questioning and I was like, couldn't they have like another engineer?

[00:19:37] And like they even, like one of the characters even mentions that in the show. But it feels like when he's managing like the safeguard of silos, the outside, like safeguard of silo 17, it's like he's engineering like death and murdering. Right. Like he's talking, like he's thinking about it, like the same way he would like, he's like a robot, like create like a pipe or a system or a digger, you know? But it's about killing people.

[00:20:07] That's a great way to say that. Yeah. And just by turning it to night vision or whatever, infrared and turning off the sound, then it could be just more machine-like and strategy and not thinking about the humanity of it, which he didn't seem like he was having a problem with anyway. But I think he did that more for everyone else involved. Yeah. And we're, you know, spreading our antiseptic around so other things don't get contaminated. Contaminated. And he even goes like for lunch.

[00:20:36] He was like, okay, just let me know when there's enough people outside so we can kill all of them. And then he goes for lunch break. I gotta eat. Yeah. That was great. And he's like, well, let's get those numbers down. Like, let's kill everyone. Yeah. Like a little pep talk. Get those numbers down, people. Uh-huh. Employee the month. Like, was anything he did there really that strategic that any soldier, you know, from

[00:21:04] the military with training and warfare and leadership, like, he just basically said, wait till there's most of them outside and then kill them. Like, it's not like he made some massive in-depth decision. I don't know. It still didn't. I'm still struggling with the like, why him? Um, and maybe we're going to have some bigger reveal on like what's special about him and his sister.

[00:21:32] Um, we're, we're, I'm skipping to the end here, but it, no, it's okay. It's okay. But he, he was quick to come up with a solution. I want, okay, five or six teams or whatever. One team is going to go after this sheriff of Sila 17 who started this rebellion. Then, uh, someone else is going to carpet the opening with this poison compound. So they can't go back in.

[00:21:58] I want two teams, um, covering the people with poison and then two more teams suppressive or not suppressive, just fire firing on them wherever we say, I forgot the words he used, but I mean, you're right. Like any, um, military operator could probably do that, but he was just clearly really good at it. I don't know if we need him to be like, Oh my God, you have to have this guy or it's not going to work versus just, Oh, he'll be good at it. You know what I mean?

[00:22:24] But, um, also it's TV and I think we have to suspend our disbelief a little bit too. Yeah. I guess, unless you're right. Like there's going to be some other factor that we don't know yet that will make it make even more sense why they had to have this guy. But also it was like a first time situation. Like usually the safeguard happens like inside the silos. Um, and they were pressured by time because they didn't want people to go over the hill and be seen in the cameras of like other silos.

[00:22:54] So yeah, it had to be like a really quick thinking. Mm. Mm. And he, he did this thing. And I think the reason why Srenkovich woke him up, because I also wonder, we really are skipping that, but whatever, that why, why he killed himself. And I think it was, he said in the recording to, uh, Daniel slash Troy, you know, uh, when, uh, the safeguard didn't work because Knox and Shirley capped the pipe, right?

[00:23:23] I've, I have to admit, I felt relieved. And I guess the reasoning why I made up in my head, why that was significant enough for him to kill himself is because maybe he realized, oh my God, all these things that we've been doing are inhumane and I can't live with myself now. And if that's how he's feeling, then maybe that's why he woke up Troy to do the silo 17 thing because he was already feeling like I'm feeling conflicted about all this. I can't do it.

[00:23:52] I need someone who's a cold hearted terminator to do this for me. Something like that. Yeah. But then he wants to do the safeguard in 18 after that. And he's stressing Camille. So. But the safeguard is so much easier to detach. Of course. Of course. Yeah. I think. Yeah. I'll wait till we get there to say, okay. Uh, let's see Juliet. I'm glad that Juliet's kind of back to her old self.

[00:24:21] And I just like loved, it was not only her herself, but like everybody was together for a minute. Like I thought that was really just like the nice moment. It's always good when that happens in a show and the characters have been apart. Yeah. Uh, when I, it was fun to see her finally get to talk to this voice and, uh, you sort of wonder about the voice. It's like, we thought it was an AI now that we know it's a person and it's still saying, Oh, she's like, we, I need to go save the kids from silo 17.

[00:24:50] And it says, well, the numbers say that that would be a disaster and denies her request. Are there actually any numbers there or, or not? And I, I suspect that even though it's a person, they are like consulting with computers and stuff, but we don't know for sure. Maybe not. Maybe it's total BS. And just like, should they be putting that level of stock in the simulations they're running

[00:25:13] and like taking that level of autonomy away from people based on these algorithms where you can't always account for the randomness. I don't think of, of human behavior. I don't know. I don't know what their level of like algorithms are, but it just feels like, I don't know. They're putting so much confidence in the statistics.

[00:25:39] I mean, I think about how leaders of countries, leaders of the U S to some degree, I think they have to think that way. Like, let me try to take the action that would result in the least loss of life. But they know it's like the trolley problem. They know that whatever they do is going to result in some loss of life in certain situations, but they still have to choose a one course or the other.

[00:26:09] It was just like with Juliet when, um, Knox was, or was it Knox? No, Bernard saying, you have to choose. Are we going to blow up judicial and potentially lose a thousand people or do nothing and let this memory drug take over where we probably will lose 2000. You know, she, she was put in that position too. And it's so, the show is so interesting because it puts people in positions that make them seem like bad guys. And then later they turned out to be good. Like that happened with Bernard Camille. Um, who else?

[00:26:39] There was, there was one more Sims. Yeah. And now we have the reverse with Daniel, who was, we thought of as a good guy. And now we realize he's been one of these voices this whole time. Um, but it's also like separating Daniel from like who the true identity of Daniel is versus like if he's brainwashed, like, is he responsible in the same way for these actions? Or is this like, is he brainwashed so deeply to be detached from it?

[00:27:09] I don't know. That's what I think. Yeah. Yeah. Because this whole, the idea of this drug is to treat trauma by having you forget it. But if we get to the point, it seems like Daniel slash Troy is at the point where he has no emotional reaction to human suffering. And in that case, you're a fucking psycho.

[00:27:33] If you get to that point, you know, where you can treat killing humans like an engineering problem. This is why brand would be such a good king in game with. Yeah. I didn't worry about that. Sorry. He's my favorite character. Everybody hates him, but you're right. I don't hate him, but people do. I get it. It's hard to connect with someone who's a robot like that. Yeah.

[00:28:06] Uh, so Camille insists that they don't send Knox to the other. Nick and Shirley to Silo 17. And so Julia suggests Kennedy and Lucas. And then the voice approves. and then when Juliet leaves, the voice says they'll never make it to Silo 17, because they're expendable. I kind of love that.

[00:28:34] Not only they're expendable, but in Victor's point of view, they should be eliminated, because they are a threat. Lucas knows too much, and Patrick Kennedy is a loose cannon, right? This is sort of in the next episode, but when Patrick Kennedy he's like, I'm not going to help you, whatever, and then he finally came around to I'll go, but it's only because

[00:29:03] I want to see the outside, and then once we get to 17, I want to do whatever I want, and Juliet's like, fine. And my thought at the time was, this is because Patrick Kennedy, if people don't remember, thinks, oh, it's all a conspiracy, and it's not poised outside, and it's actually nice, and we know that it's not nice. We thought it was poisoned. Now, I don't know what to think, but at the moment when he was going outside, I was like, oh, this is like

[00:29:32] sending a flat earther out into space. I love it. But then you turn out the flat earther's kind of right in this case, because it's not actually poisoned outside. Anyway, should we go on to the next one? Or do we have any more on this number six? And the only other thing I have is it was kind of fun to go back and rewatch the scene where the voice is like counseling Camille through her self-doubt

[00:30:01] and realizing, oh, this was Victor, and so of course he was good at having this psychiatrist talk with her, because it's literally what he does. What if an intern was in charge on the night shift or something, and he's like, it's all right, girl. Yeah. He'll be fine. Yeah, I had that in my notes, too. Like, we had the first signs that the voice was, there was actually a human behind it. And also before that discussion that he has with Camille, before he consoles

[00:30:31] her, she goes into the vault and she's like, hello, hello, and like no one answers right away. And then he's like, yeah, what do you want? Like, he's kind of annoyed, which is not something like an AI or a machine would do. Right. Right. We were getting a little like, what? It's a little fishy going on here. A little science. I like, oh, one last thing. I like seeing Martha and Bernard connecting. She says, Carla said, if I like men

[00:31:00] and you like people, we'd make a great couple. They were great together. Yeah. It's just really nice. That's one thing I've liked about the back half of the season is getting, I think like a full redemption arc for Bernard. Yeah. And just really getting to see how complicated it is to like be in charge of things and make the decisions. And it's like at every level, it's all the, you know,

[00:31:30] it's all the trolley problem. Right. But just like different scales of it. Yeah. I think that's been interesting. Yeah. Because Camille and Bernard were talking and he said, yeah, the people hate me. They say I did this and that and this. And she said, well, they wouldn't be lying. And then he said, what did you say? Now you're doing the same thing, basically. And the tragic thing about Bernard is because I loved seeing, what's his name? Tim? Tim Robbins.

[00:32:00] Tim Robbins. I've always liked him. And to see him get to be a good guy for the last part of this, normally I might think that was kind of cheesy, but I really bought it and I loved it. And then he has to die. That was very sad. And he died as a diversion while the others were getting, what did he, what were they doing? They were getting to level 55. No, that's the water filtration. No, they were in the mines to get to the safe.

[00:32:29] To cap the pipe. Yeah. And then that's because Camille's against them. And then Camille decides to be for them, which made me think, oh, that means Bernard killed himself for no reason. But she would have been able to like, swing it the same way with the voice if there had not been a distraction, I think, for them to get into the mines and get there.

[00:33:01] Really? Maybe. I think that, yeah, I think he possibly enabled the time because I think that... Everybody was watching him go out and then there was the explosion and then Camille sent her people down, but it was actually to help them. And I don't know, man. It seems like... Did they need everybody to be out

[00:33:32] when they were all on the same side anyway? But I don't... Well, I mean, I guess maybe they could have stopped Bernard going out in those last moments, but I think they needed the facade of Bernard going out to distract the algorithm from everything that was happening, I guess. I don't know. Or to even allow them. Because I think it was so ready before Bernard to just go ahead and end things.

[00:34:02] And him going out was sort of like, well, this will reset your probability of things going bad. So I think they needed that for them to allow even like another day of the silo existing. I hope so, because otherwise it feels bad. That's what I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I want to hire a private investigator. Some folks say I'm the best. I'm watching you. ABC Tuesdays,

[00:36:00] Sims warns Juliet that the drugs have been put in the water, which forces her to send Lucas and Patrick outside quickly, but the pair are attacked with guns as they approach Silo 17. Teddy presents Juliet an alternative plan to blow up the pipes in Judicial, which Juliet initially rejects as it may harm bystanders. Bernard has Gloria, who has been taken off the memory suppression drugs, brought to Juliet to tell her about the hysteria and death that happened the last time

[00:36:30] the entire Silo was drugged, which convinces Juliet to reluctantly approve the mission. Using judicial passes supplied by Sims, Teddy and his team almost blip judicial, but stop when Patrick contacts Walker via radio, confirming he and the Silo 17 children are all right. Camille confronts Sims over his subversive actions. Billings and Hank question Glenda's father, Ed Harwood, and Knox learns that his father may have faked his death

[00:36:59] with Ed's help. In the past, Daniel and Helen sign an NDA after being pressured by Thurman and Per Stenson, and they all travel by plane with Charlotte, Anna, and Victor to Stenson's project in Georgia, which is using a massive land drill to dig into the ground. I have to say how dumb I am that when they first heard the buzzing sound when Lucas and Patrick were outside,

[00:37:29] that I was like, it's been like all these years, how are there flies buzzing around the dead bodies? Like, that was my first thought, not that it was a drone or that they were being shot. Like, I felt very silly once we realized what it was, but thought it was bugs. I feel like it's, I have to suspend my disbelief that the drone shot Lucas and

[00:37:59] didn't kill either one of them and they got through pretty much fine. Yeah. And I hope there was a reason for it, but we know from episode 10 with Troy slash Daniel that they have heat sensors that they can see all of that. So, like, how did they survive? Like, it doesn't really make sense. Maybe something else happened. Maybe Daniel wasn't there when they were shot. Maybe it was Susan that was actually just trying to wound them

[00:38:28] and not kill them because, but she was retired, so why would she be there? But, yeah, maybe there's a reason. That's all I'm saying. We don't know. I had the same thoughts and I'm still struggling with it, but what I came up with from what they said is that, first of all, like, they snuck them out more quickly than they were supposed to. Juliet got Lucas and Patrick out faster. Like, Camille didn't realize

[00:38:57] she'd already sent them. And so, we know that after so many years they had really stopped closely monitoring Silo 17. and so the only thing I'd come up with is that maybe there was just, like, one drone who's, like, monitoring that area that saw, went and tried to, like, do it. But, with Silo 17, they had, like, days of preparation knowing this was sort of all coming to a head and then at least several hours

[00:39:26] after they woke up Troy. And so, I think that was the only thing I could come up with is that maybe, like, they just have monitor drones that aren't as proficient at mowing people down, but I feel like that's still kind of weak. I loved when they went out and it was really fun to see Lucas just marveling at the vastness of the sky at the same time

[00:39:55] that Patrick is just bumming out that it's not green. Two totally different reactions. Luke's like, oh my god, and the other guy's like, what the hell? Yeah. I love that. I think these two are, well, Patrick Kennedy, I really like what he brings to, like, the show, this character. I didn't like him at first, but I liked him more recently. Yeah, he's a bit more of a comic reliever, like, his interaction with the others, but, yeah, I'm curious to see what the dynamic is going to be between these two.

[00:40:25] Why do you guys think that people, I don't know if this is the right time to introduce this, but it's on my mind, why do you think that when people go out to clean, they drop dead because of the bad tape? Is it nanotechnology killing them? I think it would be the compound, and that was like in my notes too, because, well, because they talk about the compound, so that would be nanos, or like whatever it's in there. I think

[00:40:55] the compound is the poison gas, isn't it? Yeah. We don't know what's in it. It could be nanos. it could be nanos, but yeah. But yeah, if you have a nuclear explosion, and 300 years later, if people go outside, yeah, they would get sick, but would they drop dead like right away in five minutes? They wouldn't. No, not that long later. It might be nothing, actually, that much later. It might be nothing. But we saw silo-17 people were fine

[00:41:25] until they went and dropped. Right. So it's not nuclear radiation that much later. Because if people didn't realize, maybe didn't catch this detail, we're 350, I think, 352 years after the creation of the silos here. That's how long it's been since these explosions, nuclear explosions. Which means that they knew about the cleaning of Bernard and they send compound to kill him.

[00:41:55] Or maybe it was already there. We don't know. But yeah, I mean, I feel like it's still a bit of a mystery why the silo-17 people could walk around and nothing happens. But we've seen every person that leaves silo-18, except for Juliet, when she had the good tape, drops dead. And so I feel like, yeah, that could mean that the people in tech or compound or maybe that's the same thing. And they

[00:42:24] want everyone to think that it's still toxic outside so they don't go out. So that's why they're doing that. The three sort of like theories I've seen are either like they send a drone in that drops it that you don't see from the internal cameras, that it's something they're spraying on them as they go out because it's such like a controlled process and we see them get sprayed with a bunch of stuff before they go out. Or there's like a pipe right outside the silo so that it's just that like

[00:42:54] proximity to the exit that they're getting gassed. And maybe the silo 17 people didn't get sprayed with it because they'd cap their pipe. And they weren't doing like the process like they just pried the doors open. They didn't do the like full cleaning process. That's interesting. Those are my guesses. I do not remember from like where we're at in the show. I remember nothing else from the book that's a spoiler. So I'm kind of in that really nice place. I think they've changed

[00:43:24] enough too, but it feels really nice to be able to just like speculate and I really have no clue. I have a little nitpick about the Lucas and Patrick Kennedy mission. They are sent like obviously well we know that the real goal is to locate where the pipe is like for the safeguard. Right? Yeah. I think Juliet does want to save the kids too, right? Yeah, she does. But mainly she sends them with only two suits like the suits they are

[00:43:53] wearing. Like how are they supposed to bring back the kids? That is a very good point. I feel like we're being really critical but that's like a shit plan to me. Yeah, that's a good point. I mean, yeah, and when if somebody was like, wait, you guys are supposed to be getting kids. how are you going to bring them back? Oh, yeah, right, right, right. Oh, that's a very good point.

[00:44:23] Uh, so they think that Lucas and Patrick are dead, Juliet and everybody. So that's when, um, you know, Bernard calls in this collector, relic collector, the flamekeeper woman, Gloria, and talks about D plus in the water, killed so many people, et cetera, et cetera. Um, and then they smuggle the, so then they decide, okay, we're going to have to blow up judicial to get to this pipe.

[00:44:53] The plan is to blow it up so then they can hopefully see which pipe is emitting poison gas and then cap it before it kills too many people. And they smuggle these judicial passes so they can get into judicial, send a team in there using Anthony's jacket. And I thought that was pretty messed up to involve this poor kid in their plan. Couldn't they figure out some other way? I realize I'm saying a lot of nitpicks, maybe I shouldn't do that, but that's the, I did feel like that. Yeah, we hate that show people, sorry. No, I just

[00:45:22] felt like, oh, couldn't you figure out a way without smuggling it? And then the kid didn't even want to bring the jacket, so it was even more of a bummer. Yeah, but Robert Sims is being followed and like really closely monitored by his wife and he knows it, so he needed something that would seem natural. Of course, I mean, he had an excuse, but I think I would need a pretty damn good excuse before I would use my kid to smuggle in passes to sneak into something and blow it up.

[00:45:53] It's funny because before we started recording, Jason was talking about using his kids to smuggle things into Burning Man. I had a good excuse. No, I'm just kidding. No, I mean, I wrote in my notes just sort of the irony of Sims and Camille constantly going back and forth and all the decisions they're making and they're saying are for their son and everything. That's sort of what's driving them. But like

[00:46:23] you're losing your son. Like he's struggling in school. He's trying to tell you things that are a big deal to him. And no one's even listening to him. And I'm like, you don't, it doesn't matter if you have the memory drugs. Like if you don't like try to have moments of presence with him, you've lost him now already. Because they're both so consumed with these jobs they've taken on. And like, obviously it's important when they think their entire society is at risk.

[00:46:53] But I just thought sort of watching how they were, all they talked about was their son, but yet like they weren't actually being there for him at all. It's kind of sad. Yeah. But I was really glad that by the end Camille came around. That was good. and it was because of Juliet telling her, you know what? We don't know why any of this is happening in that weight on her mind. My favorite part of this

[00:47:21] episode was Helen and Daniel going to this hangar where there's Dr. Srenkovich and Senator Thurman and we meet Per Stinson who's played by Colin Hanks, who I can't help but think of Tom Hanks whenever I see him. And I remember I'd see Colin Hanks and go, look, Tom Hanks' young son is into acting now and I'm like, wow, he's old, he's getting old. It makes

[00:47:51] me feel old but I think he was a perfect, he played that character so well. He's like this billionaire who basically sees himself I think as, well, there's a cynical take and a more positive take where he's like the steward of humanity trying to steer us towards a more positive future but the cynical take is he's just scared and paranoid and also that he talks about things in terms of, you know,

[00:48:21] preserving the spirit of humanity or whatever but really he just treats everyone like their objects. Yeah, he likes to hijack people a lot. Yeah, he's very much an Elon Musk. I think he's meant to evoke Elon Musk. He says he's the richest man in the world. Yeah. I can't wait to watch the trailer. There's a little piece about that. cool. Yeah, so I'm going to mention that I

[00:48:50] haven't seen it yet, but the trailer for season four came out, so we'll talk about that a little bit at the very end of the podcast for people who are interested in that. He talks about casually about buying Guantanamo, offers them, he offers them what, a hundred thousand to sign the NDAs, and then he's like, no, okay, how about a million? And I was thinking, if I was in that position and saw how casually he just raised that up to a million, I'd be like, oh, I'll do it for five. Because they do end up getting the

[00:49:20] million dollars, or at least she does. And then Thurman says this is about saving the world, and then they go on a plane to get to the site where they take the helicopters, and on the plane, I really liked, the characters who I do think have amazing chemistry are Charlotte and Anna. They're sitting there flirting about, you know, can I get you anything? No, but you

[00:49:50] could rub my feet. Like, I really bought into all that stuff. You think they already have a thing going on? I think that was their first. Oh, you think so? Yeah, I do. On second watch, I was like, no, they've kissed. Maybe not slept together, but they like, I sort of thought they like already had a history also. I thought that was the first hookup where they were just realizing, oh my god, I feel so comfortable with this person and I'm attracted to them and they just

[00:50:20] made a pass at me. This is great. But who knows? Yeah, maybe you guys are right. It doesn't really matter. Also, what are the ethics of hitting on someone who's in the midst of memory restoration? Right. I don't know. We can talk about Anna later. By the way, we're a couple. You didn't realize that, but you forgot. And you love to do laundry and

[00:50:49] do everything in the house. I just love this whole thing where they're going to this secret thing and then they get in the helicopter and you see, well, he says he has 300,000 acres, which is 400 square miles. And that makes me wonder if the whole world got nuked or this is just an experiment around this one area or something. Probably the whole world, but who knows? Yeah. But then they get in the helicopter and you see this giant silo hole

[00:51:18] being drilled and that was just such a thrill to see and I probably should have expected it, but for some reason it didn't even occur to me that that's what they were going to see. So I thought it was a super impactful scene and it got me thinking, wow, things are really moving now. This is great. What about you guys? Did it surprise you or did you think that's exactly what they were going towards like a silo in progress or something? I was kind of expecting something like that.

[00:51:50] Yeah. And the trailer, they mentioned it before, so I was like, okay, yeah, that's, it comes into play and like it comes into play later on too when they have the dinner and they said they used it for the iron thing, we can talk about it later, but I mean, they just love Daniel in his diggers. Stinson told Helen he almost created a unicorn with gene editing tech until another billionaire said he wanted to pay a billion dollars to hunt it down

[00:52:20] or something like that. It's kind of funny. Yeah, and he's like fucking billionaires and everything. All right, season three, episode eight, Grey Goo. Lucas has been shot, but he and Patrick make it to Silo 17 where Jimmy and the others treat him. Patrick and Lucas find the Silo 17 safeguard pipe which Jimmy's mother welded shut and send this information to Juliet. Juliet. So I guess they sent where it was located. Is that what they said? So that's how they knew. Juliet and Shirley

[00:52:49] prepare to close their pipe, but Juliet is arrested by Camille's raiders while Shirley escapes. Knox finds his father who tells Billings and Hank that he designed an elevator for Ed, which Ed secretly built to traverse the silo and hide supplies. With this information, Billings pressures Ed into revealing that Glenda's ex-boyfriend Mike killed Orla. In the past, Denson and Thurman explain that they're building 50 silos as human seed banks to repopulate the earth as they fear an apocalyptic war may

[00:53:19] consume the planet. The Iranian dirty bomb was a cover story for an advanced nanoweapon and Charlotte's mission was to test Iran's nanotechnology capabilities. Thurman invites Charlotte, Daniel, and Helen to join the project. Charlotte stays but Daniel and Helen reject the offer and leave. They kiss in the departing helicopter. Oh, that's a good place to kiss. Yep. I like them together. Like I, unlike you guys. I had a first kiss in a hot air balloon one time. That was pretty

[00:53:49] cool. And then later she was like, I knew you were going to do that. I thought one thing that was interesting and helped me sort of understand why they separated Helen and Daniel. later on is because I think in terms of this group's goals, Helen is a bad influence on Daniel. I think that if Helen hadn't

[00:54:18] left, that Daniel may have stayed. And so I don't really mean she's a bad influence, but I just mean in terms of like, Daniel falling into line. point of view, yeah. Yeah. And I think Daniel is a good person, but I think he could have been swayed by their conversations. And I think that leads to why they separate them into the different, like why they don't allow Helen to stay in silo one with him.

[00:54:48] Also, she's pregnant and putting like a pregnant woman in cryo might be complicated. But then they could just let Daniel be with her in 18 and they could have a life, you know, or they could have let her have the baby live a few years and then go into cryo. In silo one. Yeah, probably everyone didn't immediately go under. So you will. I know. I didn't have a ton of notes from this episode. The only other thing I really

[00:55:18] called out was that I feel like some of Camille's conversations in this episode were the first time I started to suspect that she might double cross the algorithm and like try to help the rest of the people in the silo with their sort of missions. But I wasn't sure because she just kept flipping around so much. Yeah, I feel like she was pretty well on board

[00:55:47] with what the legacy quote unquote legacy was saying until the very end when Juliet got her thinking otherwise. Otherwise, she kept taking actions against the rebels. Yeah. The whole time when I was doing my rewatch, like watching the episodes for the second time, I kept like, you know, writing in my notes like, okay, is she playing against the algorithm now or is she not? And it's

[00:56:17] really at the end, like by following all of it in episode 10 when exactly what you said, Jason, like when Juliet says, well, the question is why, like why, if they want to save humanity, like they're willing to kill us, like why do they have a safeguard? Like why the silos? And I think, I think that's really when Camille, like switched and she decided like, okay, now I'm going to be on the other side now. Yeah. I mean,

[00:56:47] that brings me to a point for some reason I stuck with this episode, which is what I was trying to piece together the plan for the silos. There's 50 of them. And Anna says they're for seeds, that humans are seeds, the future of humanity to repopulate the world. Per Stinson says we're facing the end of the world and it cannot be stopped, it can only be survived. And he

[00:57:16] talks about all the different things, but nanotechnology could be the worst, but also climate disaster and nuclear and everything. But it got me thinking in terms of traditional farming silos, which often hold like seeds, seed grain. And I think the architects of this plan, Thurman and Per Stinson in particular, maybe this guy Strinkovich, see the people in silos as stock and

[00:57:46] enough stock needs to survive to continue humanity. So that's the priority of their mission, but individual people and even whole silos are expendable if they get in the way of that. And in real farming, a grain silo, I looked it up, can be, I mean, this makes sense anyway, can be contaminated by things like mold, fungi, insects, bacteria, spoiled or wet grain. And so farmers and grain operators work to prevent that contamination from spreading

[00:58:16] not within just one silo, but also between silos. So a contaminated batch might need to be isolated or discarded, destroyed, rather than allowed to compromise other stored grain. And I think that's the exact philosophy we're seeing in the show. That's why Daniel ordered the killing of the people in silo 17. They were considered contaminated. Dr. Serkovich calls the safeguard an antiseptic. And, um, but kind of

[00:58:46] what I was saying before, the problem with all this is it treats people like objects and tools. And I just think if there's a way to preserve humans without ignoring their humanity and their value, that that would be the way to go. And that just goes with this whole theme since the beginning of the series, whether it's good for society to keep secrets from its citizens for quote, for the good of the whole. And, uh, I can't necessarily argue categorically that it's not, but it's a good question to ask. And, um, so anyway, that's

[00:59:16] then, then what is the end game? So like, I don't think they think, well, that's the big why this is the perpetual status of humanity from now on. Um, like when they're talking about the pact on the silo tour day, Charlotte says Anna and Dr. C wrote the pack. She says, it's a book of rules about how to live underground for 500 years without killing each other. And so we know they've been there about 350 years, but, um, there's an end date

[00:59:45] and later Thurman says that Charlotte slash Susan skills will be important at the end of the project. project. And, um, so it makes me wonder if like Paris Stinson and maybe Senator Thurman think that the, this is my theory that they think that there's so many disasters on the horizon, kind of like this, uh, we didn't talk about it this time, but, um, when we thought we were recording before I mentioned

[01:00:15] world beyond the CRM killed all of Omaha because they projected that it was going to be a drain on resources. So they killed a hundred thousand people. Um, but here it's like Paris Stinson and Senator Thurman think that, okay, mutual destruction is inevitable, inevitable because of all these threats. So we will preempt that by creating these silos and nuking the world ourselves. And then we'll have people there on tour that can go down and be the seeds. And then I still don't

[01:00:45] understand why they have to wait 500 years, but after 500 years, cause they have this cryo technology too, that they can come out and be the leaders of the new civilization maybe. But, um, it does make me wonder why, why does it have to be like, what if everybody got out after 350 years, would it be so bad? Why does it have to be 500? Maybe the nanotechnology batteries die out by then or something. I don't know. It'd be that. And also like the nuclear explosions, like I'm assuming they had them

[01:01:15] all over the world because it wouldn't work in a way. Like when they're trying to achieve reset humanity, right? Seems like it. I love the idea thinking that this was just there in Atlanta and like the whole rest of the world is just fine, but they're in like a, you know, a Chernobyl type zone. And so just no one goes there and they like come out after all these years and there's a normal world. That's 28 years later. That's what happened in that movie.

[01:01:44] Oh, really? Yeah, it's only England at the end. Spoilers. Maybe they have like radioactive like unicorns going around like this. I would love that. That would be cool. That would be so funny. Yeah. Does that, does all of what I said make sense as a possibility? Do you think I went wrong anywhere in there? I mean, we don't really know. Well, I don't think so. I think that

[01:02:13] feels like what probably happened. I'm assuming they're basing it all on their predictive algorithms. But again, that feels crazy when you don't really know, like you don't know that there aren't other survivors in the world, right? Like you don't know what other people had safeguards built. Right. And so I think that's, you're still betting a lot and making a lot of heavy decisions that take away

[01:02:44] individual liberties based on probabilities when you really, they just probably, there's no way they know. Maybe there is a way they know. If you actually did kill 8 billion people and have, so you could just have your seed people left, that's evil, you know? If you thought, oh, this, and thinking this is the only way humanity is going to survive, well, you don't know that for sure. And so just don't do that.

[01:03:13] Well, the irony that he's critical of somebody wanting to hunt a unicorn that he makes up, that that's some like bad thing while he's plotting the destruction of the majority of humanity based on his assertion that this is the better option. It's very problematic. If that's what happened, which is what we think. Yeah. It seems like, yeah. But I just

[01:03:41] think if, yeah, maybe it is the radiation, but I was thinking, yeah, like all these people from Silo 17 come out and it's so important for them. I think the reason why they don't want anyone going to any other silo is because they're afraid that that will trigger people to want to come outside and they just can't have that. And I'm just like, what if they thought, let's, let's, you know, change our plan right now and just have people come out early, like right now and work it

[01:04:11] out now. Or like open it up and let each silo decide whether they will send people out or not. What were you saying, Ami? No, I was going to say like, it's obviously to me like a control thing. Like, I think they want people to come out of the silo in a certain like shape and form and mindset. Right. And that's like, I think that's what they're trying

[01:04:40] to shape, like very docile, like obedient. With a goal in mind that they're all working towards. Also, you know, they canceled like a bunch of technologies, like the computers or shit. So, no, but it's true. Like, I think they're trying to create like a certain type of human being with certain worker bees. Yeah. Not like rebels. Yeah. No. I think we should talk about like the dinner. Yeah.

[01:05:11] Flashback. Some very important information was shared with us there. First thing being what happened with Charlotte's squadron. And then again, I mean, okay. So, Stenson says, yeah, we had your squadron like fly over this facility illicit like facility of nanos in iron. But really, you were just

[01:05:40] a distraction because we were like digging underneath to get to it and destroy it. And Charlotte's like, uh-huh. Yeah. Okay. And then Ellen gets mad and she's like, you're just using them as a distraction. Right? Yeah. And then Helen has to apologize, but she was calling out Stenson and she was so right. Yeah. On Charlotte's behalf. Yeah. And like, okay, maybe Charlotte was upset, but Charlotte was saying in the first place that she wanted to know what

[01:06:10] happened. That's why she signed the NDA and that's why she was there. Like, she wanted to know what happened that night. So, I don't know. It didn't make sense to me. Like, I was like, Ellen didn't do anything wrong. No, I agree. Not to mention, like, what was so... I recognize that it would be a very traumatic experience to hear Squadron die on the radio. But is that that different from...

[01:06:39] Like, why was she set to this special, like, memory program? Like, it doesn't... She didn't see them die. Like, it doesn't seem like what she went through was like the extreme, extreme trauma that would warrant this. And so I thought initially they're messing with her memory because they don't want her to remember the nanotechnology. But then they tell her everything that happened. And so I still just like, I was struggling

[01:07:09] with some of those tie-ins. And then the other piece was like, I feel like how upset Charlotte got there while being reminded of the real memory should have been such a flag to victor that like, I cannot erase thousands of people's memories at once and have it go smoothly. I don't know.

[01:07:38] Like, if she's struggling this hard and she has a therapist who's the expert on this memory reprogramming stuff, taking her hand through it, why did they think just a few years later that they could put people into silos and utilize these methods as any sort of safeguard, I just think that felt like, God, you should have seen what a terrible design this was from the get-go.

[01:08:08] But I do think that there are people who develop treatments like this that just interpret everything in a positive way. And even at the tour, he's saying they're like, Daniel's like, oh, I didn't expect you to be working on this project. How do your skills translate over? And he was like, well, there could be trauma on a mass scale. And he's already thinking about giving

[01:08:38] everyone his forgetting drug in the silo, which ends up happening. I mean, it doesn't disprove anything you're saying. I agree with you, but I can believe that someone would push you through it. It's a good point. I mean, there's stories that I don't know how much you follow, like biotech news, but stories coming out that are finally from over a year ago, deaths that happened after small gene therapy trials in China, where all of the evidence points towards

[01:09:07] obvious signals that should have stopped this patient from ever receiving the therapy when they did. But the scientists just wanted to believe the good data they had and push forward in the name of, like, progress. And so I guess these things happen in real life, right? Like, it does. Yeah. It's hard for me to imagine doing it. Watching all of this makes me want to know who are the main instigators and architects

[01:09:36] and who knew, like, who knew, well, I'm skipping ahead again. Let's talk about that at the end. Oh, I know what you're thinking. Who knew? We'll talk about that. But we're almost there. Okay, so let's see. At the dinner, I also liked that when they said no, you know, that's where they said, well, actually, only Helen says no. And then we find out that Daniel says no later. But I just like this point of view of

[01:10:06] her being believably pre-apocalypse, like, saying, I'm not even sure I want that existence. If this happens, just kill me. Let me die if the world ends, right? I don't want to live in a hole in the ground. And that's what she says. If somehow you're right about the end of the world, I'd rather be blown to bits by a nuke or turned into gray goo by nano than stick around for your post-apocalyptic underground mole people party. And I like that because I've had similar thoughts, especially in the 80s when

[01:10:36] we were all freaked out about nuclear war, that maybe it would be better to just be at the center of the blast as dark as that is. And I just think it's so interesting to come to that perspective in this series with this flashback after we've spent so much time with people living 350 years later, the mole people, you know, wondering how the hell they got there. But I like that that was her perspective. I think it was also cool that they let them walk away.

[01:11:06] That wasn't super, like, I didn't expect them to walk away and I didn't expect them to let them walk away even though they had said, like, you're just going to sign the NDA and you're not forced to be here. I just didn't expect, and I know by the end they still looped them in by trapping them in the silos, but I just didn't expect them to get to go live a few years of a normal, happy life with their NDA payouts. I know. Making babies. I mean, that would be the best meeting you ever

[01:11:36] had. You walk away with a million dollars and you're just fine. Yeah. I don't really have anything else on this episode. We didn't really talk about what's happening in the silo 17. Oh, yeah. Because we do see a little bit of that. Like, we do see that there's trust building between the kids, like, things are different.

[01:12:05] Hope, the girl that was rejected more from the other kids in season two. Either. Yeah. She's now taking care of the baby. And when Solo, like, when Patrick Kennedy says and Lucas, they find Solo's mother behind the door when the safeguard pipe was, Solo is like, no, no, no, don't move her right away. He's not ready. He needs to think about it. And the other guy,

[01:12:35] one of the kids, I forget his name, but he's telling Patrick Kennedy, like, no, you need to respect his decision. And if Solo says that we're not moving as mother, we're not. So you can really see how the relationships like evolves between them and there is more trust and unity and then, yeah, maybe love like between them, like in a general sense. So I thought that was like pretty cool. It was good to see given how much

[01:13:05] discord there was last season with all of them, you know, and that's not really the story now so they can afford to have them have worked out the differences. But I was relieved to see that too because Audrey, it was a piece of shit last season. Yes, I remember. Okay, now that you see your name. Yeah, I didn't like her. when Patrick was helping Jimmy by saying we can have your mom have be buried properly, that was a nice moment.

[01:13:36] Yeah, it was nice to see Patrick kind of have a softer side too and we've just seen him be kind of like at odds with other characters opinions and decisions a lot and so it was nice to see him in this like, I don't know, softer, sort of emotional compassionate spot. And I believed it too, even though he had a goal, he wanted to get to that pipe, it seemed like he was sincere, so who knows? Yeah. Yeah, it's funny because Lucas was like, you're a good bullshitter,

[01:14:06] so go bullshit, like do what you do best, you know, and then he approaches like solo. I think it was sincere, like, yeah, maybe a little I also loved seeing Jimmy talk to Julia, not Jimmy, yeah, Jimmy over the radio, even though they had to use like code names, how's the family, you know, it's just nice.

[01:14:36] Yeah, I liked it a lot. I guess Jimmy's mom was the one who capped the pipe in Sila 17 and she had to, she decided she had to weld herself in to stop the gas from getting out. because there was a leak, yeah. And did you notice like when that scene ended, like when he's saying like, oh, she had to like weld herself from the inside and then we see the door and then the next scene it switches

[01:15:05] to Silo 18 with Robert Sims being in a cell before his wife comes in and we see the door and I was like, is that like a metaphor? Like he's doing the same thing metaphorically, you know, just sealing himself like from the inside and then by the cutting himself off from his wife. I don't know. Juliet's in there too though. They were in custody together. It was striking to see.

[01:15:37] I want to hire a private investigator. Some folks are the best. ABC Tuesdays TV's hottest PI is back. You sure you ready to take on a serial killer? [01:17:03] Live loud. All right, shall we run to the next one? Okay, so, episode nine, Farewell. Bernard gives himself up to Camille as a distraction. Camille offers Juliet a deal so they can keep the silo safe when the drugs take effect, but Juliet rejects it. Bernard advises Juliet to be the leader of the silo, the leader that the silo needs, sorry, and shares suspicion

[01:17:32] that the voice of the legacy is actually a person in silo one. Silo residents gather to watch the screens as Bernard goes outside without a suit and dies. And at the same time, Knox and the others collectively use Ed's elevator explosives and drills to make their way to the safeguard pipe, sorry. In the past, Daniel and Helen are expecting a baby and Charlotte

[01:18:01] has married Anna. Daniel and Helen attend the silo's opening launch near Atlanta with Helen sent to a tour of silo 18 while Daniel is brought to silo one to meet Terman, Stenson, Victor, and Anna. Daniel grows nervous when he receives a text message from Charlotte that he believes is fake. As he and Helen call each other, a massive nuclear explosion erupts in the distance with the blast radius

[01:18:31] enveloping the silos. Daniel and Helen are pulled into separate silos. That is a new rush. That was crazy. Yeah, it was interesting when they got to the silo tour and everybody was in their specific silos that they had to go to and it was all very intentional and I wonder if the idea was just

[01:19:00] to separate loved ones from each other, kind of like a cult so you don't have as much power once you're in there, kind of like you were saying before, like they thought having Helen with Daniel would be disruptive potentially. Maybe that same principle applied to other people who were connected or is it sort of like where they group certain types of people together that they think will do better together or something like that? I don't know. I mean, I think definitely

[01:19:30] they had a clear idea of who they wanted in silo one because that's where all the leaders are and their accompanying support or whatever. It was really interesting in silo one, by the way, just while I'm thinking of it, how every time Daniel slash Troy woke up, it was years later and there would just be a new staff there because they were probably kids the last time he came out, you know, and they're like, hey, trying to suck up and everything. They're really

[01:20:00] chatty and they say that they have parties and stuff. But that's next episode. Oh yeah, true. What about this one? I already commented on this, but I just really loved the ending for Bernard and I loved that his past actions, you know, he made atrocious decisions, but always because he was sort of putting what he thought was

[01:20:29] the good of everyone over the value of an individual life. And I think what I liked about this ending is that he showed he was willing to do that even down to himself and it wasn't just to go along necessarily with the pact or the legacy or whatever iteration of rules he was supposed to follow, but because he really did believe in making hard decisions to save other people. And so I think it

[01:20:58] just left him for me like fully redeemed sort of because he said like I did these shitty things and now I'm willing to like do the sacrifice that I forced on other people. And I thought that was really fitting. Yeah. Now that his perspective has changed about that this voice is actually just a person and he was operating under false pretenses. His actions change but it reveals like you're saying his

[01:21:28] good ideals here. And it makes me wonder if we rewatched would we see him in a different way from the beginning. But I love too how Juliet sees everything that we're saying about him and she feels more connected and doesn't want him to die. And he's insistent that this is what needs to happen even though I think she could have just waited a few minutes and realized that Camille had come

[01:21:58] around. But anyway then he tells her that you know Silo One is a person deciding our fates not an all-knowing machine and you're the leader and I believe in you and you need to take care of Silo One basically which I think is a big part of why that's exactly what she says she's going to do by the end of the thing because he inspired her to do that. Yeah and it's interesting to see how like foes are becoming friends because they have more

[01:22:27] access to the truth like they don't know everything but people are changing like their perspective like even Billings like we can see that happening like maybe more slowly but we definitely like see it like they all come together and they have a common goal because they understand more like the bigger picture as to before they were all in silos pun intended. Yes informational silos yeah. Yeah yeah yeah. And that's a big theme of this whole series is keeping everyone in the

[01:22:56] dark because you think that's what's gonna make things better but I love it you just saw that they're having more access to the truth and that's bringing them together. And it happens like between Walker and Bernard as well like we mentioned it and Juliet and Sims definitely and Juliet and Bernard and I mean like they even like joke about it like when she goes to visit him in the cell before he's about to go out to clean she says like oh did some asshole

[01:23:26] like pretend to hear you say that you wanted to go out or did you actually say it because that's what he did to her gravelly. And they kind of have this little look. Yeah. But yeah. I don't know it's sweet in a way. Of course. Yeah. Like tragic but sweet. Yeah. And she kind of has that like maybe I'm jumping ahead but like she has that with Sims 2 and we see that in that episode that they're becoming closer

[01:23:55] and they respect each other and I mean they even have like their little game when they're waiting in their cell like they're throwing like pebbles I guess like in the drain just to pass time to kill time. Do you remember that? Wait what happened? Her and Robert Sims. Uh huh. Juliet. They're stuck in a cell together that whole day and they're just trying to kill time and they're like throwing like pebbles in the drain in the middle of the room

[01:24:24] like and then I think a guard like comes to take Juliet and he's like hey Nicole's like you come with me and then Robert Sims is like um her name is like uh like she's still the mayor like don't call her by your last name kind of thing and he's like trying to have her being respected and like yeah like the dynamics have really like shifted yeah that's I guess

[01:24:53] that's my point yeah and it is I think on all fronts because they're having more access to more information and you see that they're all pretty good people who are just misled for the most part I think Sims has kind of gotten over himself a little bit oh yeah so he had his flaws for sure still want to know where he got that leather jacket that's held up so well for 350 years but okay

[01:25:23] right uh maybe there's a dairy on some level where they can hide some cows um so silo tour day was pretty great I love this whole sequence yeah we get to see the map of all the silos which is pretty cool yeah yeah I paused on that and I was like okay what's interesting to me is it's not all

[01:25:53] laid out each there's like little groups of how many silos seven I think one two three seven yeah and then there's lines in between some of them but it's not all the same configuration and I don't know if those lines are significant but some silos have multiple if they're passageways maybe some silos have multiple lines like seven is at the center of a cluster and that's connected like

[01:26:22] spokes on a wheel out to eight nine ten eleven twelve and thirteen but our silo eighteen is only connected to fourteen and and seventeen fourteen is connected to seventeen which is seventeen is also connected to fifteen sixteen forty four and then there's a path to one so it made me wonder if next season if these are passages and they want to use a passage to get to silo one that from eighteen they might have to go to fourteen

[01:26:52] because that's the only one they're connected to and then over to seventeen and then one or something like that you know who knows I don't know this might end up meaning nothing but I was about the way they can cut power off so like they could cut power off to

[01:27:22] just seventeen but if they wanted to cut that electric that goes to I forget what the room's called to I.T. Thank you that they would have to cut off the whole sector so there is something about the way they're connected to lines or something of power and resources and lines too be funny if the map said

[01:27:51] safeguard lines on it what's safeguard lines oh no don't worry about that there's also all these weird like the little like circle divots that I don't know what they might have been what it was it

[01:28:22] was cool to see the they call them berms the raised rings around the silos but over green grass and to see maybe a more expansive view of the whole thing than we've seen before with one right in the middle and I people could get enough exercise or something like that which is of course just a cover and it's really about making

[01:28:52] it harder to exchange information which I bet he knows all about and of course we see in the last episode that there's a really nice elevator in silo one that's totally not fair but then again people are only awake for like a short period of time like they still need exercise but and I'm guessing there are way less people in silo one it's just a thought but because like they're not making babies like in the other silos

[01:29:21] well like the people that are there probably like the people that were originally like that went in there you talk about shifts and it I felt like there were only some people who were going in and out of cryo and there were other people who were just living out their lives in silo one I could be wrong about that but that's what I

[01:30:08] what cryo but when Daniel and Helen

[01:30:34] separated to take you know they kind of pulled them apart i just had the feeling oh that's the last time they're gonna see each other yeah yeah they did a really good job of slowly building like the unease throughout the episode up until that point they absolutely did is jimmy slash solo a

[01:30:55] descendant of peter gabriel maybe because he was in uh 18 or 17 17 yeah yeah and um i did the internet told me this but when solo first tries to get juliet's attention he plays a Peter Gabriel song

[01:31:16] yeah in season two really it's uh i didn't realize what is it it's uh i can't remember red rain is falling down on me and then uh season three apparently opened with another one come talk to me another peter gabriel song because peter gabriel is our gramios the showrunner is a huge fan and then

[01:31:42] this song that he was singing here here comes the flood is pretty on the nose but great it's like here comes the flood we'll say goodbye to flesh and blood but when i i saw i'm like oh they got this old guy singing a peter gabriel song he's great and they're like oh wait a minute god i feel old that's funny uh i dr sernkovich says ai wrote the pact and he and anna just did some editing

[01:32:12] and uh i i think on one level that was another misdirect to make us feel like this voice is an ai controlling everything but also i think it's striking that this document that's so revered like the constitution of the silo was sort of lazily put together and i imagine they just told the ai we need something that will keep society stable and alive for 500 years can you write that up

[01:32:38] and we'll do some editing or something like that isn't it crazy that they rely on the technology that they also fear so much that they created the silos right you like write this book i mean i know it's a different like use of it but like yeah there's a lot of that yeah we fear this so let's use it like a lot like save the world at the same time it's just weird same thing with the nanos

[01:33:07] we're not sure yet that went back all the way to fire uh-huh um the tour guide says silos can keep out particles as small as 50 nanometers which made me wonder if they made it safe from nanotechnology on purpose and that's what he was talking about i would think so because uh stenson said that

[01:33:31] what made him rich was the nanotechnology also like what he fears was also like when they had the dinner like he made his money with that yeah some of his money that's what he said yeah so he knows what's up and how to protect the silos from it's the same thing too he probably uses it and fears it you know uh stenson well no i think that's next time where we should talk about who knew the bombs

[01:34:00] would go off but stenson clearly knew the tour guide says millions of people from all around the world applied to join this project and dr stenson made it his goal to have at least two people from every country on earth and helen says two by two this really is stenson's arc isn't it and that it does seem to be along the lines of thinking thinking it's sort of like yeah bringing in a good healthy

[01:34:29] diversity of genes into the gene pool so we have signs in this episode of who knew or who didn't know or at least who knew that um we can start about anna because it starts at the dinner but like when

[01:34:52] they're having um like they order food when anna and charlotte and daniel and helen are having dinner and um they talk about like the silo project and i think daniel is like oh you must be like so excited about like the revealing tomorrow and anna says like yeah it's like a light at the end of the tunnel

[01:35:16] and then charlotte says oh yeah except the light is a train but i don't know if that means because there's a nuclear blast that's going to go off or she just means this is meant to help us in case the world ends you know i don't think charlotte no knew anything about this i think anna did but i think it was just foreshadowing that charlotte would say something like that and i was like

[01:35:44] yeah it's kind of something like that you know um and then there's like uh the part where then it was like yeah let's have uh breakfast tomorrow and then anna like she looks down right away yeah and she usually like looks at him like in the eyes and and so she knows that something's going to happen she's like we're we're gonna be served breakfast in silos tomorrow wait we're

[01:36:11] staying the night oh did i say that out loud yeah so i think she knew something was like was up i think you might be right it was interesting because well let's talk about it now like um they when thurman was getting ready to give her speech she was practicing she seemed to think she was going to get that speech give that speech she's yelling at everybody

[01:36:40] so that's weird to me because pear stinson didn't seem to think he was going to give his part he just rattled it off he seemed very distracted he was noodling around on the piano and um anna was supposed to jump in with a comment and thurman got mad that she missed her cue she seemed distracted like she knew uh i definitely think henry knew because he um didn't want daniel to leave when he

[01:37:05] started getting oh nervous it was so obvious yeah uh and i so yeah i think at least in a um thurman no not thurman anna pear stinson henry and probably sernkovich and peter gabriel knew no not peter gabriel but um i don't think he picked the right song so maybe here comes the nuke but i but i don't know about thurman right because that was kind of weird you'd think she would know though i think she

[01:37:34] would know and i think that's why anna knows yeah and i think she's just maybe a better actress because she's a politician yeah i mean it's sucks to say but right yeah that makes sense uh and then i think she's kind of evil but we'll see maybe yeah yeah i think so killing if if she killed most of the world i think so um there's so i was thinking about how you know i said this before

[01:38:03] but everyone in the silos would be pretty suspicious about the timing of the explosions and um i want that made me think i want to see i want to see helen's story like you're saying like what happened in the day is following this and it i looked online and there are reports that apple's developing a silo spinoff uh rumors say it's focused on silo 40 which i guess hugh howey has

[01:38:27] announced that he's planning another trilogy on silo 40 and it would span from before the events of wool to after dust and he says silo 40 was pivotal to what happened with silos 17 18 and one so maybe we'll get to see some earlier stuff in a in a spinoff apple has not confirmed that there will be a series and how he's denying that for now but the silo sets are reportedly still standing even

[01:38:54] though season four finished shooting months ago and usually they would strike those sets if they weren't gonna need them anymore so we might be doing more podcasting than we thought yeah i wonder because i had that also that i noted um is it in this episode no it's in the next one but i'll say it anyway uh victor and daniel are talking and when daniel is being woken up

[01:39:22] uh for like because of the situation silo 17 uh victor said um we had that situation happen before or let's not um have it again people like capping the safeguard and like or like you know rebelling against silo one so could be silo 40 or maybe that has nothing to do with it i don't i don't know

[01:39:46] but yeah could be yeah because we haven't heard anything about silo 40 i was wondering what would have happened if juliet would have stumbled upon an active silo would it just be safeguards all around or what you know instead of 17 yeah good question i mean that's contamination yep then they'd get rid of

[01:40:08] the whole sector so anyway the ending was just incredible yeah when i guess daniel and helen are talking to each other on the phone it's so heartbreaking yeah that was also a little bit suspending of disbelief like a blast goes off and then they tell everyone

[01:40:32] to run into the silos you'd think if it was very well planned that they would make sure that everyone was inside the silos when the blast goes off but that wouldn't be dramatic i think the reason they did this way is it was really good for tv maybe they had the blast planned for a little bit later like that would explain let's say if the chairman was planning on actually giving her speech

[01:41:00] maybe it's because she thought the explosion would be later but it came earlier than right that's yeah maybe so yeah could who knows but yeah another thing when um daniel notices that like the person who's answering him is not charlotte because she doesn't reply the usual reply like the little joke that they have about their parents yeah when he's texting her you also see stanson on his phone

[01:41:29] did you notice that at the same time it rings oh so he was the one sending the text maybe he acts charlotte's phone and i'm thinking like where is charlotte i mean if he did then he's dumb because he heard her say that them say that same joke at dinner time so he should have just repeated no because that was the dinner between anna ellen and daniel only yeah no he wasn't there but i know

[01:41:54] i'm like god i'm such a nitpick but like if i had a well i do have sisters i didn't find out i had sisters until i was 45 years old but anyway if my sister and i made had this joke that every time i said can you imagine if our our parents were here or what what's the joke they would be scratching at their grave right yeah and they just oh if mom and dad were alive right now

[01:42:21] they'd be like calling at their graves and they just said that joke at dinner then the next day if you really wanted to be funny you wouldn't say the same thing you would say the unexpected thing which is exactly what the text did say mom and dad would say it's best to sit still and be patient like i would probably write something like that because i knew that my sister would think it was funny that i gave the right answer this time instead of the same thing we just said last night at dinner

[01:42:47] but total nitpick could be i mean the point is that it clearly wasn't her and yeah you wonder but she's maybe already being turned into susan who knows that's what i thought i want to hire a private investigator some folks saying the best abc tuesdays tb's hottest pi is back you sure you

[01:43:14] ready to take on a serial killer it's like a dozen more likely explanations other than serial killer all right maybe not a dozen in florida crime has no off season i just heard you were shot at today with a rocket launcher well missed rj decker tuesdays 10 9 central on abc next day on hulu real value shows up in reliability you don't have to second guess like a set of firestone all season

[01:44:05] and grogu is now streaming on Disney+ what are you waiting for hop on the must-see galactic adventure comes home on disney plus this is the way our only chance is to work together i'm like this kid always wear your seat belt star wars the mandalorian and grogu now streaming on

[01:44:28] disney plus rated pg-13 anything else no okay for this one we can go on with the episode 10 your turn veronica okay so season three episode 10 troy when i first saw this i thought it was going to be them like sneaking something into the silo like it might sort of be a trojan horse troy well okay let's see

[01:44:54] you just mentioned that so you wonder right because he's been called troy his girlfriend is helen so you think i think oh oh my god yeah yeah i think there could be a deliberate trojan horse thing and my guess is there is something inside him that could disrupt things he doesn't know it yet but it might wake up so maybe he's like the trojan horse something like that there okay so the description in a flashback to

[01:45:23] the silo 17 rebellion daniel is revived from cryogenic sleep in silo one after a seven year sleep now named troy he cannot remember his past and is a specialist who has woken up to handle crises for the project which is led by director thurman using armed drones and poison troy orchestrates

[01:45:45] execution of 9835 silo 17 rebels who have exited their silo leaving no more than 100 people inside with not enough resources to survive troy has memory flashes of helen and asked victor about her in the present camille tricks victor who is currently acting as a legacy into giving nox and the others

[01:46:10] time to successfully block the safeguard pipe while walker and carla fix the water supply victor sends a drone to guard silo 18 and requests troy to be revived this time after a 35 year sleep before killing himself juliet and lucas communicate by radio about the door underneath the silo juliet camille knox

[01:46:35] shirley and hank follow lucas's route to the door where troy as a legacy offers to leave them alone if silo 18 does not try to contact any other silo juliet accepts the deal but tells her friends that their next move should be to attack silo one which will not be expecting it troy receives a video message from victor telling him that the woman he's searching for is helen drew a name that triggers

[01:47:03] an intense emotional reaction from him yeah after he's been emotionless the whole rest of the time right this episode i thought was very good to the point where we've kind of been talking about it this whole time because we just can't wait yeah but uh it was also so dark just to see like mass i don't

[01:47:27] know if you'd say mass i'd say mass mass genocide carried out on screen yeah it's fucked up in such like a cold yeah way right clinical like when he muted it and went to the um infrared infrared i mean it just felt like they could be playing a video game right like it was but yeah very very dark i get my guess

[01:47:54] is just that yeah he's been he's been turned into a machine basically and you know it's not really him no it's not but we know that there's still a little bit of him in there because you know he has some flashbacks of helen and um yeah but it's interesting like the contrast with susan aka charlotte how she

[01:48:21] still seems to be in there and like yeah have her values as opposed to daniel who is like completely like you know like you said a robot and i was wondering like okay so how did that go like when they entered the silo i could see daniel being like okay yeah whatever just put me on the memory

[01:48:46] drug i want to forget everything i don't have my wife and my kid anymore i don't care i just want to forget everything like i could see him volunteer for that but in the case of charlotte like she was trying to get better he was trying to get her memories back like i mean who knows how much of it's voluntary either i think it was forced on charlotte like there's no way she would maybe unless she found out

[01:49:13] also but i i see him having more reasons to volunteer to because they're already lying to him he keeps asking who this woman is that he's seeing and you can see from the number of times that strankovic has written who is she and puts it in a file promising he's going to tell him later and never does you know at least then yeah i can't like i tried to count what do you think is going on

[01:49:40] there like which part uh did they volunteer like how did the did they get the memory drug in them what are they like what's up with daniel and charlotte like i think someone is driving it maybe pair maybe serenkovich maybe uh thurman maybe a combination of them they think that they need to

[01:50:06] do all of this for humanity's survival they see people as tools and objects and they've picked daniel because they think he's a good candidate to deliver coal antiseptic safeguard you know action and they've drugged him up to make him more like that i mean i don't know if they saw that potential

[01:50:31] in him or they just turned him into that it feels like a very winter soldier situation you know like that's exactly what with the winter soldier he assassinated people even though he wasn't like that before they brainwashed him into becoming that um but i feel like there's got to be at least one or

[01:50:55] two people who are not under the influence of anything who are driving this you would think i don't victor obviously wasn't i don't think so yeah i think the founders but victor has been under the influence of this drug because he took it so he could forget that he didn't that he held his daughter in her arms when she got in that accident that's where he started the whole but then he

[01:51:19] recounts the story so he does still have like he used it in a very limited way to like dampen his emotional response to a memory but he didn't actually forget he still recounted that whole story well the point he did say i haven't i still don't have that memory like that was a line that he delivered but he did recount it you're right so it's a little wishy-washy about how exactly this whole thing works because usually with charlotte's therapy the way that they help her regain her

[01:51:49] memories is to have her talk about them and meanwhile he's saying yeah they tell me that i held my daughter in my arms but i still don't remember that and i'm like well when you talk about it doesn't it start to come back no i guess not for some reason but that's such a limited use of this whereas everyone else he's like really deep deep levels of manipulating their memory yeah you're right i think

[01:52:14] he for the most part wasn't like it seems like if he was upset enough to kill himself that he would consider oh maybe i should try my drug because i'm feeling traumatized but nope but anyway i feel like pair stenson's gonna be the bad guy next season maybe maybe do we even know if he's in silo one i presume but i don't know yeah what were you saying veronica sorry i was just saying i think the fact

[01:52:43] that he left the video for daniel telling him who helen is which really only serves to help daniel uncover who he is and what's been taken from him yeah i think that shows that victor more than just giving up on like his own heart not being able to take this i think that shows that he gave up on the

[01:53:09] entire like premise behind it and it wasn't just that he couldn't do it anymore it was that i can't do this anymore and it should be stopped but i don't have like the balls to do it so i'm gonna opt out but i'm gonna start the ball rolling on someone else stopping it or turn him into exactly like me like i'm gonna let him realize that he's a monster too and he's gonna kill himself that's what i was thinking but maybe the difference is maybe you're right maybe helen's in cryo somewhere and if he can

[01:53:38] get back to her then but still oh i don't think he's gonna get back to helen but i think now knowing who she is is going to help him gain his memory back and recover things i mean it's to me it feels very obvious that at some point he's going to see the pez dispenser oh yeah yes that will jog his memory and pull him out of it like there's no other reason to still have that pez dispenser being

[01:54:02] passed around i would not bet against that juliet who has it right now right uh no sim giving back to anthony yeah that's true it's fun to like have this story up till now we thought okay these mysterious founders from hundreds of years ago set this up but you know when they introduced the whole cryogenic

[01:54:26] thing in this episode waking up quote unquote troy my first thought was oh that's a little cheesy but i quickly grew to love it because hey it's all sci-fi anyway and that means that we'll get probably get to have a confrontation between our hero juliet and the people who started this whole damn thing next season that'll be really fun to watch they did refer to victor as the founder henry says

[01:54:51] the founder kills himself right he said a founder and so so he's one of he is one of those like he definitely is the category of a founder makes sense i think they said they had four founders did they i didn't hear that but that makes sense peter gabriel it'd be per victor thurman and thurman yeah i thought that because of the people who were

[01:55:20] henry seems around like yeah henry like the people around like at the dinner henry just serves thurman i don't think henry's a founder okay he might be in the know but he's right in service makes sense he's not a brain behind it he's a muscle they call her madam director thurman so that sure sounds like she's the big cheese in charge

[01:55:49] you know but i but we'll see what kind of relationship her and pear stanson have if he is in it next season which i very much hope he is uh what else so the rebels succeed in capping the pipe which is pretty great uh the whole thing with camille and then we see i loved when we see camille speaking to the voice and now we get to see the other side and it's uh one point victor and

[01:56:19] another point it's uh daniel slash troy but it still sounds the same so you kind of get how the dynamic has worked there the whole time it sort of makes me wonder what happens if like there's crises in like 10 or 11 silos at once and they're all in their it departments talking to that voice then what happens well i guess the rapid sequence like wake up a lot of people at the same time and

[01:56:45] handle it have different rooms to yeah manage the situations um makes sense yeah can i just say like the actress i don't know her name but that who plays camille very good throughout like the whole countdown to the safeguard and then the breakdown that she has after like she knows that it's safe she was just amazing agreed i wondered if um that was planned the whole time or if they gave

[01:57:13] her a bigger role because she'd just been good you know i don't know the book so i don't know no me neither wouldn't know well thinking about acting uh i think the face acting of also i don't know his name but the actor who plays daniel slash troy at the end when um victor tells him her name is ellen drew and you can see like in his eyes and it's just his face and you can see in his eyes that

[01:57:41] he probably has like a thousand memories or like tots you know that a lot is going on in his brain is computing and it's like his eyes are getting teary and i thought that was like really brilliant and like a really good way to end like this yeah i mean it was a huge contrast after we'd shockingly seen him be so cold about killing 9 800 and whatever people and yeah you get the sense that he could

[01:58:09] just be a completely different person than that when we start up next season potentially um i hope so i fucking loved when at the end uh troy or like juliet wants to go down and check that door again which feels very video gamey like oh it's time to go through that door now and um yeah then

[01:58:30] she's talking to the legacy which is troy and he's saying uh you know if you don't try to contact another silo then there will be no safeguard and she says we accept and i'm like yeah sure you can't trust either one of these people and i'm sure they both know that or at least suspect it but then i love when she said they're like what do we do now we need to protect ourselves she's like silo one is expecting us to prepare to defend ourselves which means they won't be prepared to defend themselves

[01:58:59] against us so if we get to them first we can protect everyone we need to take out silo one that was such a great line i was like yeah i want to see that right now but how right they're creative like they're we'll see we'll see that's going to be all of next season i'm sure and it it was such a great like i wondered if they were going to answer more questions and leave next season just for how

[01:59:29] it will be resolved like how they're gonna get out of their shitty situation but there's still a lot more i feel like to answer but we did get a lot of really satisfying answers so i just thought it was a great season and i thought these five episodes in particular were the best the best sequence of the whole thing for me even though i agree with you veronica that the stuff with steve zon aka jimmy aka

[01:59:56] solo was really good last season yeah it definitely this did top it that was good i was left wondering i think there's all these other obviously like big questions about what the world outside is like but i think the thing i'm the most excited to uncover is who in silo 17 is descended from helen and daniel

[02:00:22] i think it might be juliet that feels like the obvious thing but it almost feels like too obvious but then it all of the sort of underlining of juliet even after said the memory drug is still going to be the same juliet it feels so similar to the themes of helen's character

[02:00:47] that like i could see it makes sense i've heard other people assume that it's george because of how like the pez dispenser is passed down to him i don't know you're right though i feel like i really want to know even though it's not the most important mystery i feel like helen and juliet have a similar spirit good people willing to do whatever it takes to do the right thing kind of thing

[02:01:11] and we see daniel like zooming on juliet after he talked to her like when they were down in the the vault yeah and he's like you know observing like the image and he seems like fascinated or like maybe he's recognizing something in her i don't know but there's he's curious i thought that from that scene too but then i saw people online just saying this was like them setting them up as both

[02:01:38] like needing to be each other's foes in the next season i was like yeah that's true too maybe i'm just like reading into what i want it to be but well several times in conversations with the voice it said oh because juliet told you to do that right so they know that she's an instigator and she's a problem quote unquote anything else i think we should talk about the elevator definitely

[02:02:09] i'm good we talked about it for like 20 minutes and then we hit record we really did it's all us people you don't know what you're missing but it will stay in our hearts forever they didn't get to hear about my mom's crazy ex-husband that built the elevator out of a car oh yeah um now they have that's for another day i guess um i just wanted to mention i didn't know but

[02:02:36] who one of you mentioned that hugh howey was at burning man and yes did you meet him no i didn't know he was there i i could have met him because i went and looked at his instagram and he was like i'll be at this camp shoot me a message if you want some help with your own which i wouldn't need because i was in an rv but um he seemed really friendly and approachable and him and his he's like

[02:02:59] this kind of studly uh kind of middle-aged guy and he has this like hot partner and he seemed pretty cool but he wrote on instagram some photos from build week at burning man day one of the actual burn just getting underway there are a lot of opinions about burning man out there but for me it's pretty simple this is the most interesting thing humanity is currently doing the density of art heart humanity and creativity is off the charts people wire up here like neurons creating something

[02:03:29] greater than any individual there's nothing else like it and everyone should come experience it at some point in their lives i thought that was really cool and i could also see him really loving burning man because you know i think we've talked in previous podcast episodes about how there's a lot of um plot points surrounded around little technical details like the the tape being right and the pipe capping pipes and things like that and he was a roofer and an audio tech and he just seems like the kind

[02:03:57] of guy that works with his hands and builds things in his handy and people like that do really well at burning man because they build these art cars and make their costumes and stuff like that so they're creative with their hands so anyway i thought that was pretty cool and i wish that i would have ran into him but there's like 70 000 people out there what he seems like such a cool guy it's also so surprising

[02:04:22] i don't often look up pictures like you know i read this series many years ago and had no idea what he looked like so i had sort of the name hugh howie i was just picturing sort of an older gentleman yeah and so then to see him and his partner i was like oh this is definitely not what i was expecting but he seems like a very cool guy yeah i went to look at his instagram as well

[02:04:51] investigated i did just ask ai while we were sitting here because i when we were talking about that they said ai sort of wrote part of the pact i was like okay if i just asked chat dpt like how would you keep humanity alive for 500 years after a nuclear apocalypse um one of the first few things was like it would not have recommended that they put all the silos in

[02:05:17] one place like there should be 50 iterations of the 50 silos throughout the whole world clearly a lot of the other things were very similar like preserving agriculture preserving knowledge of like how to do things so like medicine and farming and all those things um i just thought it was interesting that like it immediately was like saying how you need to have things spread out and i

[02:05:44] how like i don't know why would they have all 50 right there i thought that or maybe they didn't maybe there's a hundred iterations of these because he said he had i don't think so but could have built this more than once but i mean there was the whole thing about there will be 50 they were going to do 10 drills but they you know decided to do 50 at daniel's recommendation and it turned out to be the right thing to do so it sounds like this is it but who knows but um yeah as far as far i thought yeah

[02:06:13] if you really if like one of the biggest uh things that you feel like could go wrong with your silo project is that someone from one silo could alert or go to another silo then you should have built them further apart but i think they also wanted to have them all connected so they could have control and be able to monitor them and after a nuclear holocaust there's no real way to do that unless they're close together i don't think you know yeah that's counterpoint to that but if they're the

[02:06:43] who orchestrated at all like it feels like a pretty big if everything is based on these probabilities of survival it seems like a pretty big like risk to only build them close together yeah i agree stupid trillionaires they just fuck everything up i want to hire a private investigator some folks saying the best

[02:07:12] abc tuesdays tv's hottest pi is back you sure you ready to take on a serial killer it's like a dozen more likely explanations other than serial killer all right maybe not a dozen in florida crime has no off season i just heard you were shot at today with a rocket launcher well missed rj decker tuesdays 10 9 central on abc next day on hulu star wars the mandalorian and grogu is now streaming

[02:07:39] on disney plus what are you waiting for hop on the must-see galactic adventure comes home on disney plus this is the way our only chance is to work together i like this kid always wear your build star wars the mandalorian and grogu now streaming on disney plus raid pg-13 this episode

[02:08:06] is brought to you by chat gpt hey it's bill simmons from the bill simmons podcast have you guys heard about chat gpt work it's the new way to use chat gpt for bigger multi-step projects and when you need more than just answers give chat gpt work access to your apps and files and it can create real work documents like spreadsheets slides and structured reports get started at chat gpt.com by selecting

[02:08:32] work mode available on plus and pro plans all right so we getting some lister feedback sure so joe leving says the finale blew my mind a little after believing that they were watching that we were watching two different stories a before and after and thinking the voice was an ai

[02:08:56] that they also erased the memories of the people in silo one and made them the evil they feared was a little heartbreaking i didn't think about that way yeah it's kind of a good point it is still a before and after though but it's just that some of the people before went into cryosleep and got to be there for

[02:09:17] the later on too yeah rob waltman hi guys i've been listening to your podcast for a couple years and really enjoy your takes and banter i have a small issue with silo as far as we know silo one sees everything that goes on at each silo both partly inside and everything outside the silo so please explain to me how is it that no one saw juliet leave silo 18 and walk all the way to silo 7

[02:09:48] and then again no one saw her leave silo 17 and return to silo 18 what am i missing i can't get this out of my head it just doesn't make sense yeah they explain it in after the silo 17 decimation that they had these sort of he was like we'll do surveillance for what did he suggest three years

[02:10:13] first and then troy was like no make it five years yeah and so they said they would monitor it for that long but they knew from their certainty with their um statistics that those hundred people wouldn't be able to survive because of the situation within the silo like the electric was all turned off and so they decided to stop monitoring after that amount of years yeah and i still think rob has a point

[02:10:42] that well it seems like they seem to know things and monitor things anyway but i do think that's why they stuck that line in there of uh i think it was thurman telling daniel slash troy will monitor armed drone monitoring this place for three years and he suggested five just to make anyone who was questioning why she was able to go back and forth later but that which was i think 35 years later

[02:11:07] or something and it is 350 years into this and they even though they're probably able to like fix their drones and build new drones there still is a finite cap to their resources and so it's not like they could justify having drone like 50 drones over every silo at all times and once juliet has crossed

[02:11:33] from the silo 17 circle back to silo 18 she's on the monitor so they can't gun her down or they've revealed their own hand in things and so i think they had to let her go back into the silo i guess but they're so close together that it seems like you could have one drone that could see the whole site no i i agree it's a big like department of suspension of disbelief yeah

[02:12:03] also maybe some people in silo one are just like drinking on the job they're not monitoring properly they said they had parties like you never know they're tired okay erica price says i love this season and how they tied stories together there are still so many unanswered questions and i'm glad season four isn't too far away it's not i mean i think they'd probably do it next year but i don't

[02:12:27] know if they've announced that right it's filmed july 9th 2027 that's cool i had no idea uh i think now that the blast of mist that the cleaners are subjected to on their way up the ramp is definitely the compound yep i sure hope daniel slash troy can get some answers about helen and also reconnect with charlotte slash susan me too i think you will i'm very curious about where all the grow light bulbs

[02:12:55] ended up and will the sims marriage survive i would guess it will but i could see it going either way yeah poor victor but i'm not surprised he went quote off shift i would love a confrontation scene in silo one where daniel slash troy is shown helen's pez and it all comes flooding back

[02:13:18] i'm sure that's gonna happen uh where was pear stinson probably asleep uh do you think he ordered them to keep him in cryo sleep until 500 years had passed uh i bet you he would wake up occasionally to check on things i think he'd want that control did he only bomb atlanta is the rest of the world

[02:13:42] still okay i agree with omelie i don't think it makes sense to only bomb one area uh no i don't see how that would because the rest of the world you'd come back out to the same threats or possibly a worse situation yeah right you'd be in trouble yeah yeah so don says i just binged the whole series

[02:14:07] and finished and finished just in time for the finale and wow can't believe i was sleeping on this apple tv just delivering gem after gem after gem uh so glad we only have to wait a year for the final season two is that crazy that this is like that's the standard like a year is like a short time to

[02:14:30] wait for the next season these days when i used to be like normal months or like yeah whatever and then she goes on to say uh i'm sure you guys will 100 bring this up on the bud but i just wanted to put it out myself the symbolism of helen being uh the foil for trial and with her being pregnant and her descendants potentially being the trojan trojan horse that tears down the whole system

[02:15:00] uh i feel like it's no accident that daniel and juliet both have the same rare pale green eyes color uh minor grip i adore rebecca ferguson in this she is such a badass and incredible on screen however she's the only person in the entire silo with a clearly european accent as much as she works to suppress it i just can't not hear it obviously this is a stopping my enjoyment

[02:15:28] this isn't stopping my enjoyment just something i noticed thanks for everything you do yes i'm not sure if you've ever done anything with snowpiercer just recently watched that too and it feels just up the just up the alley for this pod and hosts we haven't and i haven't watched it i like the movie a lot but there's just too many tv shows i'm curious though yeah but yeah you're right i i agree

[02:15:54] that's another suspension of disbelief with her accent maybe she took some language classes and it really rubbed off on her see being like a francophone my first language being french like some of the things i i don't hear very much because my ear is not trained like you so i guess good for me it doesn't matter me i just think after 500 i mean after 350 years of isolation that each of these silos

[02:16:23] would probably have some distinctive accents especially because they talk about the way they compose to the people within each silo as being you know very strategic from all the different countries around the world like i think there would have been some really interesting like the same equivalent of regional dialects here in the u.s especially the way that there's no elevators and they kind of stick

[02:16:51] to their areas but yeah none of her friends have that and they all grew up together in the same part of the silo i think they could have done something kind of cool there with that but they didn't yeah that would have been made everybody adopt rebecca ferguson's slightly odd english accent right but she is so good in this like i you know oh my gosh most people love um dr sleep the sequel to

[02:17:16] the shining i didn't i need to watch it again but she was in that i've seen it and uh she's a vampire but um so i just in the dune movies i've only seen the first one i gotta watch that again yeah omelie's upset so upset i i plan to watch it but anyway um was i gonna say yeah i just love her in

[02:17:40] this she's like so good all right that is our show thanks so much for listening everybody thank you too for being my podcast partners for this it's so much fun next episode to talk about it all wait what is the next episode uh depends on what podcast you're listening to this on

[02:18:37] people ask me you know how do i contact you and i'm like we say it every time go to podcastica.com but i recommend just if you're a fan of our network go check out that website and click podcasts and then you can browse that'll show all our podcasts art there you can browse through our shows and see what we've covered and click through and then there's a button that says where to listen and that will send you off to any podcast platform like alva podcast spotify whatever um but what we're

[02:20:02] know and she's also kind of sexy so it's gonna be fun to see i've heard that she doesn't always agree with paul either so there might be some fun and friction there and we have baked tastica where we'll be covering that i love that uh title baked tastica is so good i think wendy and craig came with that so we're wrapping up but be sure to stay to the end if you want to hear us talk about the season four

[02:20:27] trailer that recently came out uh if you don't care about anything at all spoiler you should stay tuned to hear us talk about that all right that's our show thanks for listening i gotta eat okay we're we just watched the season four final season trailer i'll put a link in the show notes if you

[02:20:54] guys want to watch that too we're just going to talk about it a little bit uh it made me feel really bad because i want to watch the whole show now it looked really it looked really good no i'm just kidding it was great um it i i loved seeing if you don't want to hear any spoilers for next season you should stop listening now because i'm going to talk about the trailer but paul billings was giving like a rousing speech to presumably the whole silo that there are other silos out there just telling

[02:21:23] the truth right and that was so refreshing because now it seems like there's no one left in the silo who's trying to suppress information so now we can see what happens when everybody gets the truth and man it'll be sad if they all just die out now because they're not following the pact or whatever but it's uh speaking of the pact it's interesting that he's the one delivering this information

[02:21:46] because he's like oh the pack's bullshit yeah yeah yeah i almost wondered because i watched the trailer like before we recorded tonight but um he says i wondered like are they really in silo 18 because he says uh it is because of juliet nichols if we are safe here tonight so it could be silo 18 or it could be somewhere else like we see tunnels

[02:22:16] in the trailer here and there so like who knows if they're traveling oh yeah we don't know but yeah i love the music the violin and i love i liked that helen is in it so hopefully that means we are going to get to see some of what happened or maybe a lot right after

[02:22:40] they got forced into the silos that was cool yeah i think so because when we first have a shot of helen she's saying like she seems a little bit confused and she says like oh daniel and it's like she's remembering and then we have a flashback on the bomb and she's not wearing the same clothes so it's a bit later so it seems like it's after and she's thinking about daniel or maybe remembering

[02:23:08] him like maybe she was on the memory drug like we don't know but uh definitely not wearing the same clothes so little well we know that she saved that pez dispenser well we don't know that but i guess i want to imagine that maybe she's still got the pez dispenser has smuggled it and it's still in her possession and that's helping her like remember daniel with the memory drugs uh you mentioned

[02:23:34] tunnel we see juliet in the tunnel at the end with daniel and he who are you and he says i don't know and my guess is that tunnel is one of the lines we saw on the map and it connects the silos so she's finally like gone through that door at the bottom yeah because that door has got to be gone through at some point um and then it was interesting that daniel said he doesn't know who he is because that's not troy it's like he's gotten worked over even more or something by that point yeah

[02:24:03] yeah we also see uh termen and anna like very briefly and it seems like they're having a bad day it seems like they're listening to billings tell everyone that there's more silos yeah i don't know if they really are because it might be just a trailer trick but that's what it seemed like well yeah like a montage uh what else we see charlotte like working on a drone

[02:24:32] in a room by herself she makes me feel like she's up to something to help her i don't know i just want to believe that she like realizes what's going on and tries to help or juliet's crew kill them one of those yeah either one well i don't know because in the last episode or like was it nine like she's being sentenced to go back to cryo and she's being demoted so if she's back there

[02:25:01] playing with drones like something happened after that like she either like got her job back or rebel well you know she her wife is kind of important so she might have been reinstated yeah i'm glad yeah july 9th that's not even a year because we're already in september so that's cool yeah i know i'm excited i'm feeling pretty good about like i feel like they're going

[02:25:28] to have a satisfying ending too i think so and like i know we nitpick yeah i'm kind of bad for doing that but me too like i still love the show like none of that has made none of it's like a critical flaw but i i think i just like to look for i mean this show yeah same thing and this show uh i felt it's been a it's been a slow burn i don't mind a slow burn if it's good but

[02:25:58] you know there's been times where i've been like it's pretty slow but this season especially these last five i didn't feel that at all yeah it really picked up the pace makes it worth it yeah so it's better than it already was and you know i mean it's so beautifully done and um i'm so glad that they decided to do all the rest all at once and give it to us closer together yeah it's cool

[02:26:25] and it seems like it's getting gaining momentum in terms of popularity and i think the ability for people to binge those first two seasons where things can sometimes be slower i think is allowing them to let now jump into season three yeah yeah i've heard some buzz like oh that's a great show yeah you guys gonna cover it or what can i pinpoint something else from the trailer of course yeah we see

[02:26:54] stenson looking at a bunch of screens with blue whales or like whales that seem to have like wash up on shore and died and um this season when they go to the hacker i forget his name but he has something like a note or is it on his computer about whales dying my god do you guys remember that i kind of forgot about the hacker from the first part of the season but yeah i'm positive that there's something

[02:27:23] about blue whales in that episode and like that are dying like in a very strange way um and something like that and then we see stenson like just crying and being like so sad about the whales dying or it seems like he's sad about the whales dying but maybe he's just like someone else has nanos no um so it's also interesting because the only scene like the only shot that we have from him and that

[02:27:53] trailer is a flashback obviously yeah but just the fact that he colin uh colin hanks is in in the show makes me think we're gonna get hit more of him than just that too oh wait i hope so yeah yeah i would i would think so anyway all right good it's cool yeah i'm glad you uh wanted to

[02:28:22] i didn't even know there was a trailer so that was really cool yeah all right aren't you guys so glad that we're not realizing right now that we didn't record the whole thing if that happens i would just say uh i guess i quit doing it yeah i'm not giving up i am selling the building
