[00:00:00] Oh home for Christmas. Yeah. That's what I said. Not Christmas spectacular. It's thick. Well, you know, that's the American version. That's the American title. This Christmas spectacular. You said the British title. No, I did not. Yeah, that was the British title. It's the same. It's true alcoholic when they just wanted straight whiskey and a splash of water. What is the what is the splash of water do it nothing. Yeah, that's what I thought nothing. I guess it was see I have a mixer not tricking it straight now nobody cares every after covid everybody's like yeah I drink a lot what are you going to do about it the world's on fire.
[00:04:01] That's okay. So Hannah Waddingham, home for Christmas, the British version, Christmas spectacular, the
[00:04:07] American version.
[00:04:08] That's not right at all, but go ahead.
[00:04:11] I just finished watching it a few minutes ago.
[00:04:14] I finished it last night.
[00:04:15] Yeah.
[00:04:16] It was fun.
[00:04:17] It is a really very delightful Christmas special.
[00:04:22] It really is. some kind of like twill underneath the bottom of that gold dress. It was black and it kind of flared out the bottom of the dress a little bit. So I think that that was, um, it, it, there was no way that that was going to, to hitch on anything. I'm pretty sure. Um, she looked like a beautiful gold statue in the beginning.
[00:05:40] Yeah.
[00:05:41] And, and I will say too, um, in that, for that gold Oh, no, no, no. Absolutely. What I'm saying is that I could see the cost in department spending like months on this one dress and she just went to the Chacuzzi. She gets into a Chacuzzi and inflatable Chacuzzi too, by the way. I don't know if you noticed that. It was an inflatable hot tub.
[00:07:02] I like it because I put it in your writer.
[00:08:01] throughout her theater background.
[00:08:07] Yes, I also like the fact that we saw Sam from Game of Thrones.
[00:08:11] Sam from... Did you not notice that when she said that I was on this show
[00:08:13] about dragons and...
[00:08:14] Oh, he's in the audience.
[00:08:16] Yeah, he was in the audience.
[00:08:17] But it was nice.
[00:08:18] It was a nice little nod to her time on Game of Thrones,
[00:08:22] which I actually had forgotten about.
[00:08:25] She's the shame bell-ringer.
[00:08:26] No, no, no, I understand that, yeah, I don't think so. I haven't looked at her IMDB filmography, but one of my favorite things that she did that I think should be one of the normal things or just the default of what celebrities do is she hid her daughter's face,
[00:09:41] but kept her daughter in the show
[00:09:47] from the back of her head. her daughter in the beginning. And then it was so sweet that her mother was there. And then a durable story about how she grew up in that theater, watching her mom perform for 30 years at that stage. So I love that she had all those wonderful personal touches that she,
[00:11:01] she did just for herself. She didn't do it to like say,
[00:11:04] look at me and how amazing I am.
[00:12:01] she nailed that song. That song is one of my favorite numbers of the entire,
[00:12:05] it's one of two of my favorite numbers of the entire show.
[00:12:08] And then to see her father actually wiping tears
[00:12:11] from his face crying, you know,
[00:12:14] at his daughter's performance was just incredibly sweet
[00:12:17] and incredibly moving.
[00:12:18] Oh no, I'm just saying his poor father, her poor father
[00:12:21] because that had to be a lot of,
[00:12:23] I mean, two big stage personalities in one house
[00:12:26] and then he turned it over, do it later. I loved being like, oh, there's Macadoo, and oh, oh, oh, there's Colin, and oh my gosh,
[00:13:42] it's Jamie Tartt, you know?
[00:13:44] And it was funny seeing Jamie Tartt who was also fantastic, but I mean, it's Leslie Latham Jr. I mean, Atea, who was really surprising to me, was Luke Evans. I'm familiar with Luke Evans as a villain in the Fast and Furious movies. Okay. So I know him as a British actor,
[00:15:00] I never knew he had a theater background.
[00:15:02] I think these days you'd have to have a theater background.
[00:15:05] Especially in the UK.
[00:15:07] Yes. dodged it as much as he could. But I found it was really interesting that they had that element as a requirement to graduate because you'd never have that here in America. And I think that that's really cool. And we should probably bring that here. I was just gonna say, like you and I share that we were both theater kids in high school,
[00:16:21] and growing up, I was a theater kid in middle school,
[00:16:23] even before high school.
[00:16:25] And then I continued into high school.
[00:16:27] But-
[00:16:28] That's where reason for that. Yeah, but no, I agree. I think theater should be a requirement of high school and middle school nowadays. Like at some point throughout your middle school and high school career, you should have to contribute and be a part of some kind of drama program. Yes, or speaking.
[00:17:41] I mean, if you don't wanna do drama fine,
[00:17:43] public speaking, yeah.
[00:17:43] Public speaking, but you should learn how to work with others
[00:17:47] and speak in front of a crowd. American, he was born in New York. Okay, all right. But, because I remember that when he was on shit, whose podcast was he on? I think it was Rob Lowe's podcast. No, Mark Summers, Mark Summers had him on his podcast and he was talking about his upbringing through New York and getting into theater. But yeah, but I think it's probably because he does
[00:19:00] have the theater background that he was able to do it.
[00:19:02] So maybe that's exactly it.
[00:19:04] Sudeikis probably felt like he just,
[00:19:06] well, Brendan Hunt is American. Yeah, because he looked like he hadn't worn a Ted Lasso mustache in a while. Yeah. So I'm almost wondering if they had wrapped on Lasso at that point. And he was already back in the States and he was probably already working on something new. Yeah, maybe. And it was just a scheduling conflict.
[00:20:21] And then he came back over to do the little vignettes in between.
[00:20:26] Yeah. up above the stage like the entire time. I feel like they went back to him enough times that maybe he was. Well, I don't know because I'm pretty short. So the special itself was 44 minutes, but I'm confident it was much longer if you were there in person. I'm sure that there's a lot of other songs too.
[00:21:40] Yeah, this had to have been at least like a two hour performance if you were there in person.
[00:22:46] and things. And then that's the last you kind of hear from him until the last number when he lowers then he's tossing the snow out of the bag. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I like I enjoyed it because
[00:22:53] by the time the last number came out and he's there again hanging, I was like, Oh, yeah,
[00:22:57] I forgot he was up there the whole time. Well, I think Danny even asked a couple of times, I know you will probably at least understand the reference. I feel like they could have done better. And I forget what song it was that she was doing that I really noticed it, because it was only during one song that I really noticed it, but there was something going on with the way they did her makeup in combination with the camera angle being directly in front of her and the
[00:24:23] lighting on her face that there were one or two moments where she looked like
[00:24:28] Voldemort. thing you've ever said, I want Hannah the red one. Yeah. Giggity, giggity. Something very wrong with what you just said. Yeah. Yeah. Are you sure you're not the one that's drinking? We're just going to pretend that didn't happen. Because I'm not editing it out.
[00:25:44] So of all the musical numbers, so we got eight musical numbers throughout the special. Yeah. My two favorites, yeah, British singer-songwriter, producer, composer, social media personality, rose to prominence in 2020 after posting music covers on TikTok during the first UK lockdown. So, he's TikTok famous? He's TikTok famous, yeah. Okay. I don't think that that's a real thing yet, but you know, also, I also don't think that
[00:27:04] being a YouTuber is a real thing. just from streaming, it's literally turning their streams into a company. Right. Meaning, So you have to have that. Yeah, you have to have the business acumen to do that. It's not, you're not just gonna make money by sitting in front of your computer the whole time, but you have to do other stuff with it. That's what's being told to them. Well, and that's where they need the education.
[00:28:21] Right, and I only say this because I see this literally
[00:28:24] every day of my life.
[00:28:26] So I'm not just like saying something
[00:28:28] that I read on the night. I mentioned the O'Hole night that she did with the Enochorus. And they have yourself a merry little Christmas with Phil Dunster and the fabulous Lounge Boys. Lounge Swingers, I thought was great because I really, I like that swing or that lounge kind of music.
[00:29:40] Yeah, the kind that you drape yourself over a piano
[00:29:42] and you just start crooning.
[00:29:44] And you just start crooning with like a drink in your hand.
[00:29:47] And like that, I love singing it every year. Um, there was this woman at my parents church years ago that used to sing it every year.
[00:31:00] And people used to come to the Christmas church service to hear her sing.
[00:31:06] Oh, holy night.
[00:31:06] She was so good.
[00:32:03] I just think it was beautiful. And she sang it to her family,
[00:32:05] she sang it to her daughter,
[00:32:06] her father cried at the end.
[00:32:08] It was a perfect, perfect moment.
[00:32:11] Yeah.
[00:32:12] And she cried when she got off stage.
[00:32:14] And I gotta say to,
[00:32:19] I mentioned the weaker moments for me,
[00:32:21] like Run, Rudolph, Run,
[00:32:25] Hannah nailed every song she did.
[00:33:28] while she was growing up it everything fell in place for me after she said that because opera singers they are their own.
[00:33:41] Category of singer like i really really feel like opera singers are top notch singer yeah when it comes to you know is actually one of my favorite Disney songs. Oh, yeah, kill the beast. Yeah, now we're getting off topic. That's okay. If we weren't already. Okay, sure. All in all, I've really enjoyed this special. I'm watching.
[00:35:00] I'm going to watch it again.
[00:35:01] It's going to get thrown into rotation for me every year.
[00:35:03] Yeah.
[00:35:04] I mean, did they make have the guys that are in the balcony seats, the balcony box seats, but then the rest of the chorus, which I guess is a huge chorus, filled up the aisles
[00:36:23] on the main floor.
[00:36:24] And I just thought to see more of this special. I do too. I want to see it in full. Yeah, 44 minutes wasn't long enough. Yeah, I agree.
[00:37:40] But it was fun. It was really fun.
[00:37:42] And, you know, the people that were on stage there. Because they were dancing. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Well, it was fun to see Phil Dunster do the little slide across the stage during his number with Hannah and the lounge swingers, swingers or singers?
[00:39:02] Swingers.
[00:39:03] Okay.
[00:39:04] Yeah. Excuse me, America, everything is a spectacular. Come on. This is true. So yeah, so the next time you'll be hearing us, we'll be New Year's Day. And we'll be back with coverage of Ted Lassa. We'll be bringing you season two, episode two, Lavender,
[00:40:20] which is a season two is a lot of fun.
[00:40:25] I love season two.
[00:40:26] I love season three, too.
[00:40:28] You know what?
[00:40:29] I love't know. That's a good question. When did that episode? I am filled with good questions. Yeah, because I wonder if that episode actually did air around Christmas. I'll tie you in a second. But so, I mean, we'll do it a little bit later, but let's see.
[00:41:42] So stop clicking on that episode.
[00:41:45] That's not the one I want.
[00:41:47] Jeez. You still, we're recording this early, so you still have time. Oh, okay. At the time we're recording this, I haven't recorded it yet, but it is releasing at the same time. It's this. Okay. Sorry. It's all wibbly wobbly. Time. It's recorded, it's recorded Christmas Eve and airing on Christmas Day.
[00:43:02] So you have time.
[00:43:03] Okay.
[00:43:04] But if you're, but for the to find it real quick. So you know what, I can't find it, but that's okay. I'm just going to talk because it's taking too long. I can find it. It's just taking too long. You know, the past three years have been just stressful for everybody.
[00:44:20] And in more, in some, in more ways than others, for some of you, maybe the last three years
[00:44:26] have been really good. eating raw cookie dough and just putting yourself around people that you love and that you trust. And, you know, celebrating the small moments that you that you've had and looking forward to the next year, you don't need to go out with a bang. You don't need to accomplish anything to make this year worthwhile. You don't need to do any of that. The only thing that you need to do is just finish
[00:45:42] out the year with a little bit of calm, a little bit of peace and some love and joy in your heart. for me to say anything after that because I think that was incredibly well said and I agree with every single word that you said. So I'm just going to wrap things up with that as our closer and just say Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, be safe, be well, enjoy the time that you have with your loved ones, whether they be friends or family. And we will be back on New Year's Day with another episode.
