[00:00:00] Alright guys, listen to me. Belief doesn't just happen because you hang something up

[00:00:18] on a wall. Alright? Comes from in here, you know? Up here, down here. Only problem is

[00:00:27] we all got so much junk floating through us. A lot of times we end up getting in our own way.

[00:00:31] You know, crap like envy or fear, shame. I don't want to mess around that shit anymore.

[00:00:46] You know what I mean? Do you? No. Do you? No. No. Me neither. Hell no. You know what

[00:01:00] I want to mess around with? The belief that I matter, you know? Regardless of what I do or

[00:01:06] don't achieve. Or the belief that we all deserve to be loved. Whether we've been hurt or maybe

[00:01:15] we've hurt somebody else. Or what about the belief of hope? Yeah? That's what I want to

[00:01:23] mess with. Believing that things can get better. That I can get better. That we will get better.

[00:01:35] Oh man. To believe in yourself, to believe in one another. Man, that's fundamental to being alive.

[00:01:45] And look, yo, hey, if you can do that, if each of you can truly do that,

[00:01:57] can't nobody rip that apart. Welcome to another episode of the Revisited Podcast. I'm Ben.

[00:02:36] And I'm Kristin. This week we are covering Ted Lasso, season three, episode five, signs.

[00:02:44] I've watched this episode three times. Mainly because it has, and we'll talk more about

[00:02:54] this as we go into it, it has probably my favorite Ted speech in the entire series.

[00:03:03] So good. And the way that it was edited, it was great. It is the speech that hits me hardest

[00:03:10] personally than any other speech in the series. Well, so I'm glad that you start with this just

[00:03:18] because yes, Ted is back to being Ted this episode. It shakes out finally. But also rewatching

[00:03:29] this episode the couple times that I have, it's changed my opinions on a couple things.

[00:03:34] Made me question a couple others that I hadn't questioned before. And also is making me realize

[00:03:43] again, counter to the statement we made before that Sunflowers is the place where season

[00:03:49] three really takes off. We said last week, no, it's big week. It was last week that season

[00:03:56] three really starts to kick into high gear. Watching signs more confirms that what we said

[00:04:03] last week, because we are starting to see some big changes even more so into this episode.

[00:04:10] Huge changes, huge, huge, huge changes for each character too. We kind of do a round

[00:04:17] Robin here and we've got a lot of characters that are coming to terms with some successes,

[00:04:24] with some defeats, with some new beginnings, with closing some doors.

[00:04:29] This is a very, very, very transitional episode, I think.

[00:04:33] Yes. I think we usually do like the little banter intro and everything. But

[00:04:39] I mean this week let's just dive right into it. As always, this is a spoiler full podcast.

[00:04:48] Usually when we did Lost, it's a spoiler full podcast. This time we try and steer

[00:04:52] away from the spoilers. However, we will do a little bit of a spoiler conversation

[00:04:55] towards the end of the show. Just check the show notes. Although I only have one thing.

[00:05:01] I have a few. Okay. So then we'll definitely do a spoiler full conversation.

[00:05:07] It was funny because Dave and I were watching it last night and he's like,

[00:05:09] that's for spoilers. Oh, that's for spoilers too.

[00:05:12] Oh no, I have two. I do have two things for spoilers. We will do a spoiler section

[00:05:17] a little bit later on after the main conversation and before favorite quotes and feedback.

[00:05:22] I also have a recommendation this week that is not Bad Batch.

[00:05:27] Well, we can't recommend Bad Batch. Well, we can.

[00:05:30] I can recommend Bad Batch every week if I want to.

[00:05:33] This is very, very true. You know what? I recommend Bad Batch.

[00:05:37] I second that recommendation. Just check the show notes if you want to skip the spoiler

[00:05:42] conversation to know when to come back in. So this whole episode kicks off.

[00:05:49] Richmond is doing horrible. They are in a losing streak.

[00:05:54] And it's interesting because this is something that happens in sports,

[00:05:58] not just in European football. It's when teams start to slump,

[00:06:03] you don't blame the players. You blame the coaches.

[00:06:06] And we're starting to see that kind of happen. Like the commentators are saying stuff about it,

[00:06:12] like the bullpen needs to change. Even Higgins at one point goes to Rebecca and says,

[00:06:20] we may have to think about firing Ted. You know, this really bothers me.

[00:06:27] The whole thing bothers me because it's what is wrong with sports teams today in real life.

[00:06:34] I agree. You added a cancer to your already perfect team and now you want to fire the coach?

[00:06:43] Yeah, OK, he may be the greatest player in the world. He may just be.

[00:06:46] But is he a team player? Has he made your team better? Because the team is so in awe

[00:06:53] of the fact that Zava is on their team that they've stopped playing.

[00:06:58] Yeah, but you know, out of everybody on that team,

[00:07:00] on that coaching staff, who's come around to it? Roy. Because Roy even says we might as well just

[00:07:08] start charging the team admission since all they're doing is watching Zava.

[00:07:12] Right. But that's the point, right? That's the point is that they've stopped playing.

[00:07:16] They've stopped being a team. And Zava doesn't care. Zava, I mean, even when they were

[00:07:23] winning, what was this a couple of weeks ago, I think that they were either winning

[00:07:28] or they were playing and they weren't passing to Zava and the whole day.

[00:07:30] Pass to Zava, pass to Zava.

[00:07:34] I think it was last week when Jamie took this took the attempt to score

[00:07:38] and missed and Zava got mad because the ball wasn't passed to him.

[00:07:42] Right. I mean, it's just like and I use this all the time because yes,

[00:07:48] personally, I hate this player so much. I don't know what to do.

[00:07:52] But let's look at let's look at the receipts here. OK.

[00:07:55] And yes, I'm going to talk about LeBron James for a minute. OK.

[00:07:58] Maybe for more than a minute because I really hate him. OK.

[00:08:02] But he he King James appears on the scene of NBA in whatever year he decides to

[00:08:10] destroy basketball and then he plays on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

[00:08:14] He can't win on the Cleveland Cavaliers, even though he's been dubbed the king of the NBA,

[00:08:20] even though other players who are far better than him have created a team around them

[00:08:24] and won championships that way.

[00:08:26] LeBron James think LeBron James is of the Zava mentality that he can do it all on his own.

[00:08:32] Then he realizes, oh, no, I can't do it all on my own.

[00:08:35] I need other superstars.

[00:08:37] Well, he goes to Miami and he builds a super team because he doesn't want to have

[00:08:41] to do it on his own.

[00:08:42] And what happens?

[00:08:43] They win a whole bunch of championships.

[00:08:45] And then he what does he do?

[00:08:46] He moves again to Cleveland.

[00:08:48] And this time he takes more superstars with him.

[00:08:50] But once the superstars leave and it's just LeBron, what happens?

[00:08:54] He can't fucking do it.

[00:08:55] Then he goes to the Lakers on his way to destroy another wonderful team.

[00:09:01] And what happens?

[00:09:02] It's the LeBron show.

[00:09:03] It's not a team show.

[00:09:05] And then he can't do it on his own.

[00:09:06] So they get Anthony Davis and they get Dwight Howard and they get who else did they get?

[00:09:13] Oh, my gosh.

[00:09:14] They got Ray Allen.

[00:09:16] No, they got Ray John Rondo, who anybody who is a Laker fan knows that Ray John Rondo

[00:09:22] is the exact wrong player that you want on that team.

[00:09:25] But they did it for LeBron, James, because LeBron is life.

[00:09:29] Zava is life.

[00:09:30] Right?

[00:09:30] Well, that creates a vacuum.

[00:09:32] It creates a cancer.

[00:09:33] It creates a team that can't even win the first round of the playoffs this year

[00:09:37] because they're all a bunch of sons of bitches because it's all about LeBron,

[00:09:41] LeBron, LeBron.

[00:09:42] And it's not about the team.

[00:09:45] Teams win championships, not people.

[00:09:49] I 100% agree with everything that you said, especially that last part about teams win

[00:09:57] championships.

[00:09:57] Sorry, my microphone is going wrong.

[00:09:59] Sorry.

[00:09:59] Hang on.

[00:10:01] Your microphone tried running away from the conversation.

[00:10:05] You're yelling into me.

[00:10:06] Leave me alone.

[00:10:10] You know what?

[00:10:10] I think the same can be said for Peyton Manning on the Patriots.

[00:10:16] Peyton Manning was a Patriot?

[00:10:18] Not Peyton Manning.

[00:10:19] I'm sorry, Tom Brady.

[00:10:20] Thank you.

[00:10:22] I said Peyton because I think Peyton's a better player and people can crucify me for that

[00:10:26] all they want.

[00:10:27] Tom Brady is the same.

[00:10:29] What's that?

[00:10:30] You won't hear it here.

[00:10:31] Yeah.

[00:10:32] You know, Brady, it was the same way.

[00:10:34] The Patriots are like Brady is not the fucking goat.

[00:10:38] We're going way off top.

[00:10:39] No, we're not.

[00:10:40] We're staying on sports.

[00:10:41] No, we're not.

[00:10:43] It's the Zava effect that's causing us to talk about this.

[00:10:46] And even going on, like going one further about your conversation with LeBron.

[00:10:50] I know how much you adore Kobe Bryant and I have all the respect in the world for that.

[00:10:57] But to me, Jordan's still the goat.

[00:11:00] Jordan, especially compared to LeBron, there's no contest that Jordan is a better player

[00:11:06] than LeBron.

[00:11:07] Jordan won six championships and you know how he did it?

[00:11:09] He did it with his team.

[00:11:11] Jordan won six championships over LeBron's four.

[00:11:13] He's gone five MVP titles over LeBron's four.

[00:11:17] He's won six finals, MVPs over LeBron's four.

[00:11:21] He has nine All-Star defense records compared to LeBron six.

[00:11:26] And he has 10 scoring titles compared to LeBron's one.

[00:11:31] Anybody out there says LeBron's the goat can fuck off.

[00:11:33] I'm sorry.

[00:11:33] Not to mention that Nike is Nike because of Jordan.

[00:11:40] Sorry.

[00:11:41] No, I agree with what you're saying.

[00:11:42] I 100% agree with what you're saying.

[00:11:45] I mean, we don't have air LeBron's.

[00:11:47] We have Air Jordan's.

[00:11:49] And the Kobe shoe is phenomenal.

[00:11:54] Middle school kids love the Kobe shoe.

[00:11:57] Love the Kobe shoe.

[00:11:57] You hear about Kobe's and you hear about Jordan's.

[00:12:00] You don't hear about LeBron's shoes.

[00:12:02] Sorry buddy.

[00:12:03] You just don't.

[00:12:04] Okay.

[00:12:05] Back to football.

[00:12:07] But again, it is the Zava effect.

[00:12:09] And I really did come to a realization about everything too with Zava

[00:12:13] because I think there really is a big comparison that can be made this episode.

[00:12:17] This episode in particular, when it comes to Zava and the team

[00:12:23] and comparing it with...

[00:12:26] And this is going to sound like a weird comparison but hang on.

[00:12:31] The same comparison can kind of be made to Rebecca and Keely with Nate

[00:12:36] where Rebecca and Keely filled Nate with such overconfidence that it became a negative to him.

[00:12:45] The same way Zava is doing the same thing to Richmond.

[00:12:49] He is filling them with this overconfidence, especially in this episode

[00:12:53] that he gives this whole steps all over Jamie's speech

[00:12:58] and to boost the morale even higher to not even fucking show up for the game.

[00:13:04] I think that was his goodbye.

[00:13:06] I mean, if you listen to the speech that he made, the speech that he made,

[00:13:11] he said, you guys can win without me.

[00:13:14] You guys are good enough without me.

[00:13:16] He knew in that moment, I think that he wasn't going to play another game.

[00:13:20] Now there's a lot that can be said for Zava over the course of this first half of the

[00:13:24] season especially when it comes to like his words of wisdom.

[00:13:27] Most of it is completely useless.

[00:13:30] However, I think we get the first real Zava in this episode when he talks about the love for his wife.

[00:13:38] Yes, he loves his wife.

[00:13:40] He adores his wife and I think then is when he knew he was coming to an end

[00:13:49] when it came to playing football.

[00:13:51] Like he was, it was, he wants to be with his wife.

[00:13:55] He wants to be-

[00:13:56] The only reason why he's, go ahead.

[00:13:59] No, that was just going to repeat my thought.

[00:14:01] The only reason why he's at Richmond was because his wife saw

[00:14:06] Downton Abbey or something, saw like some British television show and

[00:14:10] decided that she wanted to live in London.

[00:14:12] Oh, was that?

[00:14:13] I missed that part.

[00:14:13] Yeah, that's why he moved from the Italian team that he was on

[00:14:19] because at the very beginning he said, my wife watched, it was a show.

[00:14:24] Maybe it was Downton Abbey.

[00:14:25] I don't know, but she decided she wanted to live in London.

[00:14:27] So here we are.

[00:14:30] But he, like, I love it.

[00:14:32] I'm not saving it for quotes.

[00:14:34] I wrote it down with my quotes, but I knew I wasn't going to use it in quotes.

[00:14:37] But he says, like, you know, they say, hey Zava, what do you think of Anastasia?

[00:14:40] And he says, I don't.

[00:14:42] My wife Christina is the only woman I see with clarity.

[00:14:45] Every other woman is a smudge.

[00:14:48] My wife is sexy, but in a girl next door kind of way.

[00:14:53] Glasses, ponytails, she paints.

[00:14:56] Like she's all that.

[00:14:58] Like what?

[00:14:59] It's a movie.

[00:14:59] Oh, I don't care about moving pictures.

[00:15:02] My favorite thing to watch is my wife.

[00:15:04] Like this is the first real thing we've gotten from Zava.

[00:15:10] And I think, yeah, I think then he was on the precipice of retiring.

[00:15:15] Like he was the decision was being made in his mind right then and there.

[00:15:21] Yeah, I he wasn't he hasn't been a part of the team the whole time.

[00:15:26] But in this episode, he really wasn't a part of the team.

[00:15:29] Like you don't even see him in the weight room until he sits up with with the weight.

[00:15:34] Yeah, you know, like as they're all having a conversation, I don't know about you.

[00:15:39] Because I looked for him.

[00:15:40] I did not see him in that weight room until he sat up.

[00:15:44] No, I think it's very cleverly edited that you don't see him the whole time.

[00:15:48] But I want to say, though, one of my favorite moments from that whole weight room scene

[00:15:51] other than Zava putting his hand on Jamie's head and Jamie kind of like shrugging them off.

[00:15:56] Is the fact that he stands up.

[00:15:58] He's holding that huge 20 pound weight throws it.

[00:16:02] And it just kind of puts just kind of like throws it to the side.

[00:16:05] Yeah, like it's nothing to him.

[00:16:07] Like he's holding a plate like a dinner plate.

[00:16:10] Like it's so well done.

[00:16:13] I love it.

[00:16:14] Another one of my favorite moments.

[00:16:16] It wasn't till the end of the episode, but it was comedic.

[00:16:18] So it just popped into my mind.

[00:16:20] But it was should we should we ties off to his chair and make him stay?

[00:16:25] And Danny's like, well, I think we could have tried.

[00:16:31] But again, like that kind of goes back to what I was saying is that like Zava over

[00:16:35] the course of these episodes that we've had him, the overconfidence that he exuded

[00:16:39] in this team kind of became a negative for the team itself.

[00:16:43] Like we needed this Richmond team to realize that they could do it on their own.

[00:16:50] Like they don't need anybody to do it.

[00:16:53] Anybody special to do it.

[00:16:55] And that was that.

[00:16:59] And so on that note, too, I have this in my I have this and I kind of noticed it upon

[00:17:05] the second watch of the episode when when they are giving that speech and they are

[00:17:10] realizing that Zava is no longer there and they and Ted says you never needed Zava.

[00:17:17] There's a moment where Roy gives a look to Jamie.

[00:17:20] No, Ted gives the look to Jamie.

[00:17:23] No, no. There's a look that Roy gives to Jamie, too.

[00:17:25] I wrote it specifically.

[00:17:27] Then they both did because Jamie said that from the very beginning.

[00:17:32] But there it's a look that Roy gives to Jamie almost as if like, OK, now's your time.

[00:17:39] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:42] Yeah. Now's the time.

[00:17:43] This is what you've been waiting for.

[00:17:45] This is what we've been training for.

[00:17:48] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:49] And then at the end he says 4 a.m. and he goes, damn right.

[00:17:53] But do you know the wonderful, beautiful 4 a.m. connection in this episode?

[00:18:02] It's almost diabolical when you think about the fact that Roy chose 4 a.m.

[00:18:08] to train Jamie and to beat his bully to death.

[00:18:12] That moment. OK, I have it.

[00:18:14] And I have it for quotes, but I'm just going to read it now.

[00:18:17] He's like the best thing you got.

[00:18:20] There's no way I'm going to be able to do any justice to the way Roy says it.

[00:18:24] No, not at all.

[00:18:25] But he says, no, best thing you can do with bullies is ignore them.

[00:18:29] Then you sneak into their house at 4 a.m., which statistically speaking

[00:18:34] is the hour people are least prepared to defend themselves and beer and beer.

[00:18:39] Correct. And once you're standing over them as they sleep in their bed,

[00:18:45] you start to beat them with a thick, heavy rope soaked in red paint,

[00:18:51] pummeling them over and over until they wake, confusing the paint for their own blood.

[00:18:57] And then when they beg you to stop, you laugh as loud as you can for as long as you can.

[00:19:04] And then we get the huge, deep gulp from Ted.

[00:19:09] And then you start to beat them again.

[00:19:11] It is such a menacing moment.

[00:19:17] And to top it all off, the classic mug drop from Trent just adds so much more to that moment.

[00:19:27] Because he is a sucker for a story.

[00:19:30] He's a writer, you know?

[00:19:32] So he is 100 percent in it.

[00:19:35] I mean, you see him go from sitting at his desk and he just keeps getting closer

[00:19:40] and closer and closer.

[00:19:41] And he's just like, yeah.

[00:19:42] And then he drops the mug.

[00:19:44] What a great scene.

[00:19:45] But it is funny how 4 a.m. and 4 a.m. match in this way.

[00:19:53] And the shrewd observer who podcasts on this show would very much understand.

[00:20:02] I love to kind of not to transition to because there's not really much that can be

[00:20:07] said about him in this episode, but we see a little bit of a transition and a growth in

[00:20:16] not Trent, but his involvement with the team.

[00:20:20] We also get the first clue that Trent has gone through his own transition

[00:20:26] because it is not out yet.

[00:20:29] And this could be saved for spoilers.

[00:20:30] So feel free to edit it if you need to.

[00:20:33] It's not out yet that he's gay.

[00:20:36] Well, I think he has the rainbow mug in his hand.

[00:20:39] Oh, that's right.

[00:20:41] I didn't even pick up on that.

[00:20:44] I think we've mentioned in the previous episodes that Trent is that.

[00:20:48] But I don't but I don't think that it's been it's not out yet.

[00:20:52] I think that that's next episode.

[00:20:54] It's next episode.

[00:20:55] But this is the first time that I have seen an outward hint such as his mug.

[00:21:02] Well, other than I think it was in season two.

[00:21:06] We see him out to dinner.

[00:21:09] Yes, with a colleague and we don't know.

[00:21:11] And like as people that have seen the show, they know that he's probably on a date and

[00:21:16] he's being very secretive about it.

[00:21:18] Yeah, still right because he knows how journalists are.

[00:21:24] It's a story.

[00:21:25] I mean, and we've seen we've seen him.

[00:21:29] He has picked up on Colin's secret and he's been a little caddy with Rebecca a little bit.

[00:21:36] When they got Zava, they only wanted Zava after Rupert wanted Zava and he's like,

[00:21:41] I love that.

[00:21:47] But that's all kind of fun independent journalist vibes too.

[00:21:53] But with the striped rainbow mug, I really think that we got our first precursor to

[00:21:59] Trent's new life because he was married with a child.

[00:22:05] He does have a child and a wife.

[00:22:09] I never picked up on that.

[00:22:10] That's a good pick up.

[00:22:11] I didn't even really didn't really pay attention to that.

[00:22:14] But going back to what I was saying about like Trent's involvement with this team,

[00:22:20] I love the fact that this is the first time like Trent has he's made it very clear.

[00:22:25] He's nothing more than an observer.

[00:22:26] He's writing this story.

[00:22:27] He just kind of wants to be in the background, but we're seeing that that's not how Ted

[00:22:35] and beard and even Roy see Trent.

[00:22:38] They see him as an equal.

[00:22:41] I don't know.

[00:22:42] Yeah, he you know, they've had conversations with him about everything.

[00:22:46] And it's in this episode that, you know, Trent kind of makes a little bit of a noise

[00:22:52] when they're talking about ideas for the coaching and Ted wants to know like what

[00:22:58] are you thinking?

[00:22:59] And he brings him into the conversation.

[00:23:01] And I love the whole.

[00:23:04] Roy gets in on it.

[00:23:05] The whole analogy about them being monkeys like that are injured.

[00:23:09] And I love that Ted and beard are like these little monkeys, but Roy has to be the chimp.

[00:23:17] And he was a gorilla.

[00:23:20] Oh, gorilla.

[00:23:20] Yeah, that's what I meant.

[00:23:22] Yeah.

[00:23:22] Yeah.

[00:23:22] Ted and beard are the chimps.

[00:23:24] You know what?

[00:23:25] He played the game.

[00:23:26] Yeah.

[00:23:27] Good for.

[00:23:28] But that's huge growth in Roy, too, considering this is a man he hated.

[00:23:33] Yeah.

[00:23:35] Oh, but that's what I love about Roy, too, is the fact that like

[00:23:39] all you got to do is just get your beef out in the open and it's squashed.

[00:23:43] Ever since that bathroom, that shower scene.

[00:23:47] That sounds weird.

[00:23:49] The scene of the two of them like hashing it out and getting it out in the open.

[00:23:54] They've been great ever since.

[00:23:55] Well, and that's Roy, right?

[00:23:57] Roy Roy's way of healing is to just expunge it from his body and then he moves on.

[00:24:06] Yeah.

[00:24:07] Except when it comes to Keely,

[00:24:10] he cannot wash that out of his head.

[00:24:15] Well, we see it.

[00:24:15] We see a little bit of that this episode during Ted's speech.

[00:24:19] Yeah, and I do have that with Ted's speech.

[00:24:22] I'll save that for when we actually talk about his speech.

[00:24:28] But I do want to talk about a couple other things first.

[00:24:35] One of them is, hang on.

[00:24:40] One of them is the fact that we lose a very another worthy character to lose and say goodbye

[00:24:47] to forever.

[00:24:48] Thank God.

[00:24:49] Yep.

[00:24:50] Starfucker herself.

[00:24:51] Shandy is gone.

[00:24:53] Shandy, I have it written.

[00:24:55] I have a couple notes on Shandy and there's just like little sentences to kind of like

[00:24:59] remind me of what I want to talk about.

[00:25:02] Other than the fact that I have Shandy fired parentheses bipolar.

[00:25:06] One of the first notes I have on Shandy just simply says Shandy is garbage.

[00:25:12] Golly, and her fake tan is like is up there with Jersey Shore.

[00:25:19] I think that's appropriate because I don't think there's anything real about Shandy.

[00:25:24] No, not at all.

[00:25:25] There's nothing real about Shandy.

[00:25:29] Well, what's real is that she is a terrible human being.

[00:25:32] Oh, 100%.

[00:25:34] She is 100% garbage.

[00:25:38] I'm sure that she maybe with the right person or the right people, she could grow and get

[00:25:45] better but it would take like a miracle.

[00:25:49] See, I don't know.

[00:25:50] I don't know if there's anyone that could save Shandy that way.

[00:25:53] I don't know.

[00:25:54] Keely can't.

[00:25:55] That's what I mean.

[00:25:56] I guess you're right.

[00:25:57] Yeah.

[00:25:57] I don't know if there's anybody that can mentor somebody who is so set on their

[00:26:01] ways that they are the star attraction that I don't think there's any saving them.

[00:26:12] There's almost a comparison that could be made to Zava and Shandy in that these are

[00:26:20] two very overconfident people but one of them is actually overconfident rightfully

[00:26:27] and the other one is not.

[00:26:29] Zava, as much as you can say about how much of a negative influence he had on the team,

[00:26:35] he's talented.

[00:26:36] Yeah, but you know what?

[00:26:37] There's no taking that away from him.

[00:26:38] So is Shandy.

[00:26:40] Is she though?

[00:26:41] Yes.

[00:26:42] Yes because she does have good ideas.

[00:26:45] She just doesn't know how to channel them for the greater good and I would say

[00:26:49] that that is the same as Zava.

[00:26:51] Yes, he is very talented but he doesn't channel it properly.

[00:26:55] He could be a leader of an actual team instead of just the one guy that's the star around

[00:27:00] a bunch of peons.

[00:27:02] This is the same as Shandy.

[00:27:04] Shandy has great ideas and she could be a really good leader if she were to follow her

[00:27:10] coach, if she were to take criticism constructively.

[00:27:18] Here's a question for you.

[00:27:19] It's just the stakes are different.

[00:27:21] Okay, I can say and the environment's a little different too.

[00:27:23] Yeah.

[00:27:25] Here's a question.

[00:27:26] I don't know if we've ever asked this question but I'm going to ask it.

[00:27:28] I'm going to pose it to you now.

[00:27:30] Is Zava what Jamie would have become without Ted?

[00:27:34] Yes.

[00:27:35] Okay, I think so too.

[00:27:39] I think that Jamie even realizes that.

[00:27:41] That's why he came in from the very beginning and he's like,

[00:27:44] guys, we don't need this.

[00:27:46] We're good the way that we are because Jamie has been like that and he's grown

[00:27:51] because of Keely, because of Roy, because of Ted, because of Beard.

[00:27:56] He has people in place that have...

[00:27:58] I mean, because he left.

[00:27:59] He went to Man City and he came back.

[00:28:02] Yeah.

[00:28:04] He didn't have to do that.

[00:28:05] He could have gone and done ecstasy for 30 straight days on a different country

[00:28:08] and he probably would have done that if it wasn't for Ted and the army man.

[00:28:14] Well, I mean, and that's the thing that can be said about Jamie too is you're right.

[00:28:17] He went to Man City and came back, but he only came back because Ted allowed it.

[00:28:24] At that point, Jamie lost everything.

[00:28:24] Didn't he say you have to make it right with the team or something like that?

[00:28:31] Yes, but he did, but he gave Jamie the opportunity to do it.

[00:28:36] I love the way that he also posed it to Sam who was very upset.

[00:28:39] He's just like, you have a really good dad.

[00:28:41] We're lucky that we are who our fathers make us or something like that.

[00:28:47] There's a whole episode on dads.

[00:28:48] I think we talked about Higgins' dad and Tark's dad and Obasania's dad.

[00:28:52] Everybody's dad was mentioned.

[00:28:56] Jamie, without that father figure in his life, that's how he turned out.

[00:29:00] It wasn't until he was surrounded by people that made him better

[00:29:04] because they wanted him to be better.

[00:29:06] Not better at his talent, better at a sport, better at making money,

[00:29:09] but a better person.

[00:29:11] Jamie's always been somebody that wants to be a better person.

[00:29:15] Zava is a good person.

[00:29:16] He just does it in a really douchey way.

[00:29:19] Yeah, I will say too, there's not a lot of Sam in this episode.

[00:29:25] I do have one note on Sam in this episode.

[00:29:30] I'll just throw it out there now even though we're not to that point yet,

[00:29:33] but there's a point where when Ted comes out of the locker room at the end

[00:29:37] right before we get that speech, as Ted starts that speech,

[00:29:42] it pans to Sam and you can see this big smile on his face

[00:29:46] because Sam knows we're getting Ted wisdom right now.

[00:29:50] He's ready for it.

[00:29:52] He got his coach back.

[00:29:53] They have another coach all season.

[00:29:55] It's been five episodes of Ted circling the drain with all of his,

[00:30:01] my wife is dating my old marriage therapist and Henry's a bully

[00:30:05] and this and that and the other, and he's let Zava just run the team.

[00:30:12] But now he's got to take his team back

[00:30:15] and I think Sam is the representative of the entire team who are happy

[00:30:21] that they've got their coach back by the end of this episode.

[00:30:24] Yeah, Sam knows in that moment like we're about to get words of wisdom.

[00:30:27] We're just going to sit back and enjoy this,

[00:30:30] but I want to take it back to Shandi since we were talking about

[00:30:34] goat present and her sheep.

[00:30:38] Which is a sheep or a goat?

[00:30:40] I thought it was a goat.

[00:30:41] No, it's a sheep.

[00:30:42] No, it's a goat.

[00:30:43] She calls them sheep.

[00:30:46] That's why she brings a sheep in the office.

[00:30:48] I thought it was a goat.

[00:30:49] No, it's a sheep.

[00:30:49] Goats have horns.

[00:30:52] That was a sheep.

[00:30:53] That was a baby.

[00:30:55] It's a sheep.

[00:30:56] Trust me.

[00:30:58] She calls them sheep.

[00:30:59] That's why she leaves a sheep in the office.

[00:31:04] So this kind of leads me, the whole Shandi thing

[00:31:08] kind of leads me into a question and a theory I have about Jack.

[00:31:18] We've been saying for a while like, oh, wait till we meet Jack

[00:31:22] because Jack is the worst and everything.

[00:31:26] Is she?

[00:31:27] No, this episode she was charming.

[00:31:31] This is my theory.

[00:31:33] I think the reason why Kaylee is gravitating to Jack

[00:31:42] is because Jack is now the one that is giving her the mentorship

[00:31:48] and the empowerment that not Rebecca was lacking to give her,

[00:31:53] but Rebecca just simply wasn't able to give her

[00:31:56] because they're in separate places.

[00:31:58] Now, Kaylee is getting this empowerment.

[00:32:00] And I think it really comes from Jack giving her the advice

[00:32:04] on how to fire Shandi.

[00:32:07] That's empowerment to Kaylee.

[00:32:09] Kaylee is attracted to that.

[00:32:12] So why wouldn't she be attracted to Rebecca then?

[00:32:17] Rebecca has it in spades over Jack.

[00:32:20] Rebecca has it in spades over Jack, but I think I don't know.

[00:32:28] Maybe because Kaylee feels there's an age difference

[00:32:30] because Jack definitely is more on par to Kaylee's age than Rebecca is.

[00:32:36] Not saying Rebecca is super older than Kaylee,

[00:32:41] but Shandi's probably not Kaylee's probably in her late 20s, early 30s.

[00:32:46] Rebecca's in her mid 40s to late 40s.

[00:32:50] Jack is on par like age wise.

[00:32:53] Kaylee is in her mid 30s to late 30s

[00:32:57] because remember she was just like, oh, dating 20 year old footballers still.

[00:33:01] Oh, that's true.

[00:33:02] Okay.

[00:33:05] But I still think there's a closer age difference to Kaylee or to Kaylee and Jack

[00:33:09] than there is to Kaylee and Rebecca.

[00:33:11] However, I really started the question,

[00:33:15] is Jack really as bad as we've been making her out to be leading up to this

[00:33:18] because of our first impressions of her from watching the season?

[00:33:21] And now that we're kind of diving, it's the same thing with Nate.

[00:33:24] We were like, well, Nate's not as...

[00:33:26] We came to the realization last week that, oh,

[00:33:28] Nate's not really as bad as we've been making him out to be.

[00:33:30] There's more to it.

[00:33:31] And I kind of have that same feeling with Jack right now

[00:33:35] because and I think one of the huge things about it is too,

[00:33:38] like when it comes to the relationship between Jack and Kaylee,

[00:33:41] we have to remember from this episode, Kaylee made the first move.

[00:33:46] I forgot about that till I watched it.

[00:33:49] Yep.

[00:33:50] Kaylee made the first move, not Jack.

[00:33:52] Jack is the stereotypical rebound relationship.

[00:33:57] Rebound.

[00:33:58] Yep.

[00:33:59] It's a rebound relationship.

[00:34:00] And we all have that.

[00:34:03] I mean, we all have that last huge relationship that we had.

[00:34:09] And for me, thank God I'm married.

[00:34:13] I just don't know that I could date in today's world.

[00:34:15] I really don't.

[00:34:16] And anyways, but let's take it before I'm married, right?

[00:34:21] Before I've already settled down.

[00:34:23] But when you have those huge relationships and then you break them off,

[00:34:28] there's always that bad decision that you make.

[00:34:33] So as far as bad decisions go, it wasn't that bad of a decision for Kaylee.

[00:34:38] Thank God.

[00:34:39] It could have gone a lot worse.

[00:34:40] She could have.

[00:34:40] Oh, yeah.

[00:34:41] She could have.

[00:34:42] Could have been Shandy.

[00:34:43] She could have dated Shandy.

[00:34:44] Oh, dear Lord.

[00:34:47] I was going to say she could have dated Zava.

[00:34:50] It could have been so much worse, right?

[00:34:53] But I think it's because we as viewers want Kaylee and Roy to just get over themselves

[00:34:59] and get back together already that anybody is a villain that gets in the way of that.

[00:35:05] It's like Ross and Rachel and Emily.

[00:35:08] And see, you know what?

[00:35:09] And that's the thing about that too, about that relationship is upon multiple rewatches

[00:35:13] of Friends, Emily wasn't bad.

[00:35:16] I actually thought Emily was great for Ross.

[00:35:19] Until she's like, you can't ever see Rachel again.

[00:35:23] That was a big deal.

[00:35:23] I won't move and you have to sell all your stuff.

[00:35:26] Okay, Emily got bad, right?

[00:35:28] But before all that, Emily was wonderful.

[00:35:30] Yeah.

[00:35:31] She was just the foil keeping Ross and Rachel apart.

[00:35:34] Same with another one, Julie with Ross and Rachel or Mona.

[00:35:40] Mona was wonderful.

[00:35:42] Yeah, Mona.

[00:35:43] I loved Mona.

[00:35:44] Yeah.

[00:35:44] I mean, Mona could have really kept them apart forever.

[00:35:47] If Ross had married Mona, I don't know that I would have been that upset about it.

[00:35:51] In hindsight, you know what I mean?

[00:35:53] We're getting off topic again.

[00:35:54] Yeah.

[00:35:55] But I mean, and that's the thing about Kaylee and Jack too is I honestly think if it wasn't

[00:36:01] for the fact that this, yes, was a rebound relationship, had this been something that started

[00:36:05] a little bit later, I think this honestly could have been and would have been something good

[00:36:10] for Kaylee because you think about the fact that during that whole conversation,

[00:36:16] I think part of the reason why Kaylee ended up making the first move on Jack is that

[00:36:21] they both know completely transparently each other's past and they were willing to accept it.

[00:36:28] Jack knew about footballers.

[00:36:30] She knew about her dating Jamie.

[00:36:32] And the clown.

[00:36:35] Kaylee knew about the clown.

[00:36:37] It was with Jack, they were very open with each other and I honestly think that kind

[00:36:42] of plays into it as well is that this might have been something Kaylee has never experienced

[00:36:47] before either is that she knew the background of a person before getting involved with them.

[00:36:57] She knew Roy pretty well.

[00:37:01] Yeah, but there was still a lot about Roy that she learned.

[00:37:03] Maybe.

[00:37:04] I mean, we learn a whole bunch of stuff about the people that we're in relationships with.

[00:37:09] Yeah.

[00:37:11] Yeah, but in rewatching this episode, I kind of by the end of it, especially in realizing

[00:37:16] that Kaylee was the one that made the first move.

[00:37:18] I'm like, I think we're wrong.

[00:37:20] I don't think Jack's nearly as bad as we're making her out to be.

[00:37:23] Oh no, she is.

[00:37:24] It's just not yet.

[00:37:26] Maybe that's it.

[00:37:27] Maybe we need to watch a little further before.

[00:37:29] I remember the first time I saw this episode, I was really mad because I didn't want

[00:37:36] to go away from Kaylee and Roy.

[00:37:39] I didn't want to step away from it.

[00:37:42] On this watch, I wasn't so upset.

[00:37:46] I thought it was cute.

[00:37:47] I thought there was a lot of chemistry between the two of them.

[00:37:51] I was really shocked that Kaylee was the one that made the first move.

[00:37:55] I did not remember that, but it also makes sense because why would Jack make

[00:38:00] the first move?

[00:38:01] She's a professional first and foremost, and that is her subordinate.

[00:38:06] Yeah.

[00:38:07] So I mean, already though, it's an inappropriate relationship no matter what

[00:38:12] because of the status of their professional careers.

[00:38:16] Well, because it really puts Barbara in a terrible position.

[00:38:20] So Barbara again is another interesting character because she is a character,

[00:38:27] not to go too spoilery, but she is a character you will learn to appreciate.

[00:38:31] I already love her.

[00:38:33] She has in my list of favorite quotes from this episode, she's on the list.

[00:38:39] She has a quote this episode that I love.

[00:38:44] It's not on the list, but when she was like, she's like, yeah, that's great.

[00:38:48] Then next time, why don't we just sell the tables we're throwing away?

[00:38:53] You can tell she feels like she is struggling so hard to just be appreciated.

[00:39:02] I love Barbara.

[00:39:03] She's a character you will learn to really greatly appreciate

[00:39:08] if you don't already like Kristen does.

[00:39:11] I got to tell you the snow globe collection, that doesn't win you over.

[00:39:15] I don't know what will.

[00:39:17] Such a whimsical part of somebody.

[00:39:20] Yeah.

[00:39:21] But yeah, so I guess now it's a waiting game to see what else we're going to learn about Jack

[00:39:27] that's going to change my opinion.

[00:39:29] I honestly don't remember.

[00:39:30] Oh, I do.

[00:39:32] Do you?

[00:39:32] Okay.

[00:39:33] I honestly don't remember what it is that comes with Jack that makes me change my opinion on

[00:39:38] this.

[00:39:38] Yeah, I definitely do.

[00:39:40] Okay.

[00:39:41] That's okay.

[00:39:42] Fair enough.

[00:39:45] Wow.

[00:39:45] There's still quite a bit on my list.

[00:39:47] Can we go over to Nate?

[00:39:50] Yes, please.

[00:39:53] Nate.

[00:39:54] Yes, please.

[00:39:55] Nate.

[00:39:56] All right.

[00:39:57] You want to start?

[00:39:58] I love Nate even more again by the end of this episode.

[00:40:06] Nate, by the end of this episode, has finally found the proper level of his own confidence

[00:40:16] when it comes to him and Jade.

[00:40:18] And seeing...

[00:40:20] Do you disagree?

[00:40:21] No, no.

[00:40:21] Keep going.

[00:40:22] Okay.

[00:40:23] So, I mean, obviously, yeah, we see like the whole date with Anastasia,

[00:40:27] however you want to pronounce it.

[00:40:31] And we're still seeing Jade kind of being this person.

[00:40:34] Before we even get into that, too, I love the fact that Nate called his mom

[00:40:38] to practice calling Anastasia.

[00:40:40] Yeah.

[00:40:41] Did a word change?

[00:40:43] Yeah.

[00:40:43] Oh, should get drink.

[00:40:45] Okay.

[00:40:47] I love that he practiced with his mom.

[00:40:49] But I love that by the...

[00:40:51] It is very clear from the start, even before they show up at Taste of Athens,

[00:40:56] that Nate and Anastasia are not meant for each other.

[00:41:01] They are two completely different people.

[00:41:04] Who wants to be with somebody that vapid?

[00:41:07] Yes.

[00:41:08] But I love the fact that not only do we see a change in Nate,

[00:41:11] but we kind of see a change in Jade too.

[00:41:14] I think she's starting to realize a little bit that he's kind of finding

[00:41:19] a little bit more of this confidence because he's not over exuding anymore,

[00:41:23] especially with her by the end of this.

[00:41:26] Hey, I have this baklava for two.

[00:41:30] It's just me unless you care to join me.

[00:41:34] It's like a koi confidence, but that's Nate's confidence.

[00:41:40] That's the kind of confidence that Nate should have been exuding.

[00:41:44] He's endearing.

[00:41:46] Yes.

[00:41:47] And I love the fact that even before that,

[00:41:49] when she's pouring the water for him and Anastasia and he's like,

[00:41:52] you need to try the baklava, it's divine.

[00:41:54] Divine.

[00:41:56] She gets a kick out of that because she's also seeing that

[00:42:01] Anastasia is not happy where she is.

[00:42:03] She thinks the place is a dump.

[00:42:05] She thinks the food looks like garbage, but Nate is defending it.

[00:42:11] No, it may not look good, but it tastes good.

[00:42:13] You need to try this.

[00:42:16] He's defending that place.

[00:42:18] He's very humble.

[00:42:21] It's the whole difference in their characters.

[00:42:26] Nate may not look like much, but he's wonderful on the inside.

[00:42:32] Once you are there and you're there for the important things,

[00:42:35] you're there for the special things or something that may be dumpy,

[00:42:41] quote unquote, on the outside is really special and a jewel on the inside.

[00:42:46] Speaking of jewels, what is in A Taste of Athens?

[00:42:50] Jade, right?

[00:42:52] Yeah.

[00:42:53] So I went to the Google and I wanted to know what does Jade symbolize?

[00:43:02] I'm sorry.

[00:43:03] I went to the Google.

[00:43:06] That's like a parent asking, are you smoking the pot?

[00:43:09] Yeah, the pot.

[00:43:11] Yeah.

[00:43:11] I went to the internet.

[00:43:14] So we have,

[00:43:16] Jade has many symbolic meanings across cultures, including harmony, eternity, and virtue.

[00:43:23] Those are three things that Jade has, the character Jade has.

[00:43:31] It symbolizes purity, harmony, protection.

[00:43:37] What else?

[00:43:37] It can attract abundance, prosperity, emotional balance while warding off negative energy,

[00:43:44] clarity of mind, and purity of spirit.

[00:43:46] So when you think about the things, the keywords that Jade symbolizes,

[00:43:53] you see those elements in the character Jade,

[00:43:56] and she is surrounded by a taste of Athens, which doesn't look like much.

[00:44:01] If that isn't Nate in a character, I don't know what is.

[00:44:06] Yeah, I can see a lot of that.

[00:44:08] I can see a lot of that.

[00:44:08] She's a woman who is shiny and pretty and bright and tall and perfect model,

[00:44:14] but is there anything to her?

[00:44:16] No, she wants to take pictures of her food and she wants to be seen.

[00:44:21] Well, not only that, but you could tell I don't, and that's the thing.

[00:44:24] She had an out before that date even started.

[00:44:28] Yeah.

[00:44:29] Because when she walked outside to call someone,

[00:44:33] the car with all her girlfriends was already there.

[00:44:35] The Zoolander car.

[00:44:36] The Zoolander car.

[00:44:37] Yeah.

[00:44:38] Wake me up before you go.

[00:44:41] That was already there.

[00:44:42] So she was already planning on leaving before this ever happened.

[00:44:48] Oh, yeah.

[00:44:49] And you know what?

[00:44:50] Good riddance.

[00:44:51] That was just ridiculous.

[00:44:52] That was, you know, Rupert got Nate a car that was not him.

[00:45:02] Too much car, too much woman, too much team,

[00:45:05] too much responsibility.

[00:45:07] Everything that Rupert gave Nate was not for Nate.

[00:45:11] None of it was specific to Nate.

[00:45:13] It was just here, have a flashy car, have a flashy model, have a flashy job.

[00:45:17] Right?

[00:45:18] Let me give you all the good stuff so that you don't leave.

[00:45:21] But, you know, I can't see Ted doing that for Nate.

[00:45:26] Nate is not going to get a flashy car or, you know, a shiny supermodel girlfriend

[00:45:33] or anything like that.

[00:45:34] So I think that we're starting to see the cracks in Rupert's game with Nate

[00:45:39] because he doesn't understand who his head coach is.

[00:45:43] Well, and it's also great too, because coming up very soon again,

[00:45:47] not to get too spoiler about it, too, is when Nate realizes it.

[00:45:51] Yeah.

[00:45:51] Which is soon.

[00:45:52] And it is such an empowering moment for Nate.

[00:45:55] Yeah, I agree.

[00:45:57] When he sees it and realizes himself.

[00:45:59] Right.

[00:46:00] I completely agree.

[00:46:02] And I think it's really important.

[00:46:03] It this episode is a very important transitional episode for Nate as well,

[00:46:08] because with Jade, Nate is going to get kind of his mojo back,

[00:46:14] his self-deprecating, quiet, unconfident confidence,

[00:46:23] stuff that we like about Nate, that he's kind of shoved down

[00:46:26] because he views them as weaknesses.

[00:46:29] We're going to see that those were really originally his strengths.

[00:46:33] That's why Ted saw him as more than a kit man.

[00:46:37] It's why he brought him up to coach.

[00:46:39] It's why Nate has been successful.

[00:46:45] We're going to see that kind of resurge back up to the top.

[00:46:49] And I'm really excited to see that happen.

[00:46:52] Yeah.

[00:46:53] And Jade is a big catalyst for that.

[00:46:55] I love the fact that this character we have seen since season one of the show.

[00:47:02] Right.

[00:47:04] Or was it season two that we meet Jade?

[00:47:06] Jade was...

[00:47:08] I don't know.

[00:47:09] I think it was season two.

[00:47:11] I think it was early in season two.

[00:47:12] Oh, yeah.

[00:47:13] I think you're right.

[00:47:14] Yeah.

[00:47:14] It's after he became part of the coaching staff.

[00:47:16] It was beginning of season two because he doesn't become part

[00:47:19] of the coaching staff until the end of season one.

[00:47:21] Yeah.

[00:47:23] The coaching staff for the Richmond.

[00:47:25] Yeah, that's what I mean.

[00:47:26] Right, right, right.

[00:47:26] Yeah.

[00:47:27] I couldn't remember first.

[00:47:29] Go ahead.

[00:47:30] Because I go back to Rebecca saying you couldn't get a table at a place called Taste of Athens.

[00:47:36] Yeah.

[00:47:36] It's after Nate joins the coaching staff for Richmond,

[00:47:39] which doesn't happen until the end of season one.

[00:47:41] So we meet Jade in season two.

[00:47:43] But I love the fact that Jade is this character we have seen throughout

[00:47:48] Nate's journey up until this point.

[00:47:50] Here and there that we kind of almost written off as this person who just doesn't give him

[00:47:58] the time of day.

[00:47:58] Right.

[00:47:59] Who is going to become starting from this episode a huge part of Nate's not only life,

[00:48:07] but growth.

[00:48:09] His redemption arc.

[00:48:10] Yeah.

[00:48:12] Which I believe that we are well on the way to a redemption arc right now.

[00:48:18] I think that it's been working for a lot longer than even you and I remembered it to be.

[00:48:23] Yeah, I agree with that 100%.

[00:48:26] Which I'm glad.

[00:48:27] It's starting.

[00:48:27] This is why a rewatch is so nice.

[00:48:29] Yeah.

[00:48:32] But yeah, I love Jade and Nate.

[00:48:35] I just love it's just so endearing and sweet the two of them at the end of this episode.

[00:48:42] And like, maybe like, you know, just, you know, unless you want to join me.

[00:48:45] And she does.

[00:48:47] That's like, okay, this is a great like this is this is great.

[00:48:51] Which is a huge step for her because she has kept him at like a 10 foot pole distance,

[00:48:56] not an arm's distance.

[00:48:58] That's even too close for her.

[00:48:59] Like she has basically like I hated him or hate eyes, you know, like she's just

[00:49:10] been hating him outwardly with disgust and humor in her eyes.

[00:49:16] Well, look at that.

[00:49:17] Well, and I think it's because she was just turned off by that over exuberance.

[00:49:22] Like, I don't know who thinks that that is attractive, but even look at the beginning

[00:49:27] of this date when they walk in and he says, you know, like Shelley table for two.

[00:49:32] And he looks she looks right past him and says, and you ma'am to Anastasia.

[00:49:37] They didn't belong together.

[00:49:39] No, no, they didn't.

[00:49:41] But then I love it.

[00:49:42] That was her way of like throwing shade.

[00:49:45] Uh huh.

[00:49:46] She's like, you're not together now.

[00:49:48] Shade from Jade.

[00:49:50] J.J.

[00:49:54] Um, yeah, I love Nate in this episode.

[00:49:57] I can't wait.

[00:49:59] You know, it's still going to be a little time.

[00:50:02] This redemption.

[00:50:03] This redemption arc is going to take a little time.

[00:50:05] But there is a particular moment in the penultimate that we've been hinting at

[00:50:12] and with him and Beard, that just is such a great moment, not just for Nate, but for Beard.

[00:50:20] But we'll we'll talk about that when we get to that.

[00:50:25] We still got to talk about Ted's speech, but I kind of saving that for for the end.

[00:50:32] Let's talk about Rebecca because this is kind of a

[00:50:37] a heart breaking moment for Rebecca.

[00:50:44] Rebecca has some of the Rebecca is why this episode, I think, is named signs.

[00:50:52] So Rebecca is starting to believe her mom's psychic.

[00:51:00] She's got the green matchbook.

[00:51:02] She's got the what was it?

[00:51:05] Shite in dining armor.

[00:51:07] Yeah.

[00:51:07] From Rebecca Darling.

[00:51:09] Yes.

[00:51:09] After running into John, John Wink's night again.

[00:51:12] Dear Lord, that guy.

[00:51:15] Not the last we see of him again, by the way is just I mean,

[00:51:22] the next time we see him is my favorite moment of seeing him.

[00:51:25] But I remember I will mention it during spoilers.

[00:51:28] Okay.

[00:51:29] I think I remember.

[00:51:31] Yeah, yeah, I'll mention it.

[00:51:33] Talk about it.

[00:51:33] Let me see if I can guess it when we're in spoilers.

[00:51:35] I don't want to do it now.

[00:51:38] But yeah, she looks so much taller than the two of them too.

[00:51:45] Like she's just so there's something about her.

[00:51:48] You know, she's just this entity, Rebecca Welton.

[00:51:52] You know, I mean, she's tall and beautiful and perfectly polished.

[00:51:56] And I mean, she's everything that anybody would want on the outside.

[00:52:01] And what you don't understand is that on the inside, she's a mess.

[00:52:05] Just like, you know, everybody else.

[00:52:08] She wears it with such grace and such dignity.

[00:52:12] You really have this feeling of heartbreak and devastation for her

[00:52:18] at the end by the end of this episode because she was with Rupert for 12 years.

[00:52:23] Those were her childbearing years.

[00:52:25] She gave the best years of her life to him.

[00:52:29] And that I think comes crashing down on her in this episode.

[00:52:34] Well, I mean, and the heartbreaking thing about it is too,

[00:52:36] that I think you realize by the end of it that even though we don't audibly hear

[00:52:41] what the results are, you can very clearly see it on Rebecca's face.

[00:52:46] And I think it's something that Rebecca has just been,

[00:52:50] I think she's always known.

[00:52:53] And now because she even says it to the doctor like, yeah, like it's good to know.

[00:52:57] I think she's just always had that fear that it's something she's always known.

[00:53:02] Now she knows for sure.

[00:53:04] And while on one hand, it is a little bit of a weight

[00:53:07] lifted because the fears have been confirmed.

[00:53:10] It's also more of a heavy weight because she missed out on something she could have had.

[00:53:15] And you know, we what she is failing to think about right now,

[00:53:21] because you have you have to grieve that process as a woman.

[00:53:27] Even if you.

[00:53:29] And I know that this is different for all women, right?

[00:53:31] Some women never want kids, whatever.

[00:53:33] But as a woman, you think that you are at least able to have kids if you want.

[00:53:38] If that choice is your choice, then it's there for you.

[00:53:43] However, in this in this case, that's been taken away from her.

[00:53:51] And it's a choice that we take for granted as women.

[00:53:56] When that choice is taken away from us,

[00:53:58] we have been robbed of something that we thought was ours.

[00:54:02] And that takes time to grieve.

[00:54:05] Once you're over that, though, if you can get over it right,

[00:54:09] you can be a mother in different ways.

[00:54:13] And and the psychic was very specific.

[00:54:16] You will be a mother.

[00:54:18] She didn't say you'll have a baby.

[00:54:20] She said you'll be a mother.

[00:54:22] And I think that Rebecca is failing to see that verbiage right now.

[00:54:30] Well, and I think a lot of that stems from the fact.

[00:54:34] And this is something else I wanted to bring up about this whole storyline

[00:54:37] with Rebecca, too, is that like, yes, Rebecca is starting to see these signs

[00:54:41] play out of everything that the psychic told her.

[00:54:46] But even as a skeptic of psychics, you can see everything purely as coincidence.

[00:54:54] Like it's literally just a green matchbook.

[00:54:57] You know, I think what it is, is that you get these suggestions implanted in you

[00:55:05] through a conversation and then anything that closely relates to them.

[00:55:11] You automatically think of this as something that was predicted to happen.

[00:55:17] I don't know.

[00:55:17] That psychic was pretty spot on.

[00:55:19] Did she say green matchbook?

[00:55:21] Yes.

[00:55:21] Or did she say green?

[00:55:22] She said green matchbook.

[00:55:24] OK.

[00:55:25] All right.

[00:55:26] That's fair.

[00:55:27] And I'm pretty sure she also said shite and knitting.

[00:55:29] She does say shite and knitting armor.

[00:55:31] I do remember that.

[00:55:32] I mean, that's pretty specific.

[00:55:35] Yeah.

[00:55:36] OK.

[00:55:36] That's fair enough.

[00:55:38] I think she's testing.

[00:55:39] So Rebecca is testing the prophecy or whatever.

[00:55:42] Right?

[00:55:43] She's testing what this psychic has said to her.

[00:55:45] And this is the first major blow to the hope that she was beginning to build.

[00:55:53] Yeah.

[00:55:56] You know, Rebecca's main fear, I think, is just being alone, not having somebody to

[00:56:03] share her life with.

[00:56:05] And Keely is not there because Keely is off rebounding.

[00:56:09] Yeah.

[00:56:10] Well, I mean, even when you look at the stance that you said, too, about how

[00:56:15] the psychic said you will be a mother and how there's different iterations of that

[00:56:20] and how Rebecca is kind of not seeing that to a degree, that's something she has kind

[00:56:25] of always been a little bit since leaving Rupert when it comes to AOC Richmond.

[00:56:30] She kind of is like a mother.

[00:56:32] Yes, she is the boss.

[00:56:34] And yes, it makes it weird because it means she dated one of her children

[00:56:38] or fooled around with one of her children.

[00:56:42] But she is kind of like a matriarch of the team.

[00:56:46] Oh, 100 percent.

[00:56:48] Yeah.

[00:56:49] So I mean, she's kind of already a mother to that team.

[00:56:52] Yeah, but I but that's not what she wants.

[00:56:55] That's not what she wants.

[00:56:56] And that's not what she deserves.

[00:56:59] One.

[00:56:59] Yeah, true.

[00:57:01] Completely agree.

[00:57:02] You know, she at this point, you know, we are so dialed into Rebecca and Rebecca's

[00:57:09] story that we are we are wanting all the best things for her.

[00:57:17] Well, I think that's one of the reasons why this becomes a heartbreaking story to ourselves

[00:57:22] as viewers is because we want this for Rebecca just as much as Rebecca wants this for herself.

[00:57:28] We want her happy.

[00:57:30] However that looks, we want her happy.

[00:57:32] Like if Sassy has to die for her to get Nora, that's how she gets to be a mom.

[00:57:37] I think as viewers at this point in the show, we're ready for that to happen.

[00:57:41] Like we just need Rebecca to be happy.

[00:57:43] Boss ass bitch.

[00:57:47] Boss ass bitch.

[00:57:49] I mean, and it's very clear too even from this point that we're that Rebecca and Ted

[00:57:54] are both clearly distracted from the importance of the team and everything that happens.

[00:58:00] And there's a scene in this episode that shows that to the nth degree when they pass

[00:58:06] each other in the hallway and then they realize it.

[00:58:10] They both realize it.

[00:58:11] They're like, oh, like because like even like the fact that Rebecca calls Ted coach.

[00:58:16] Yeah, she's a go on Ted.

[00:58:18] She calls him coach and boss.

[00:58:20] It's not Ted and Rebecca.

[00:58:21] It's it's boss and coach.

[00:58:24] And they both realize it at that moment that like, oh wow, like we've been.

[00:58:29] We're too tied up in our own heads right now.

[00:58:33] And I think that that's a good thing.

[00:58:35] It's good to realize that it's good to have that realization of I am off the tracks.

[00:58:41] Right now, and I need to write.

[00:58:43] I need to write my ship.

[00:58:45] Yeah, I think even if you don't know which way north is.

[00:58:49] It's good to know that you have you've lost north.

[00:58:57] By the way, I love that whole scene where they're all pointing in different directions

[00:59:00] and beard is the last one that goes no north is that way.

[00:59:04] I think.

[00:59:04] I think.

[00:59:07] But like why that whole scene frustrates me though, because that's not the point

[00:59:12] that Ted was making.

[00:59:14] No, no.

[00:59:15] Like, why are we settling on this?

[00:59:18] Dumbasses.

[00:59:20] Gosh, I love I love these characters so much.

[00:59:23] That's the problem.

[00:59:24] That's the problem, right?

[00:59:25] Is we love these characters so much and they're taken away from us in like six,

[00:59:30] seven episodes.

[00:59:31] No more, no more.

[00:59:33] Yeah, seven.

[00:59:34] Yeah, seven episodes.

[00:59:36] We have seven episodes left.

[00:59:37] Oh, and they're all great from this point on.

[00:59:42] Yes, starting next week.

[00:59:44] They are all great.

[00:59:45] It's my favorite episode next week, which I'm really excited about.

[00:59:50] So hang on.

[00:59:53] Are you done with Rebecca?

[00:59:55] I'm never done with Rebecca.

[00:59:57] Are you done with the purposes of this episode?

[01:00:00] Yes.

[01:00:00] Okay.

[01:00:02] Because I would like to talk about something real quick, as you know,

[01:00:04] as everybody knows, I am a teacher.

[01:00:07] Okay.

[01:00:09] We are seeing what is wrong with kids today in this episode.

[01:00:13] Henry was in trouble for bullying another kid.

[01:00:17] He punched him, punched the kid.

[01:00:20] And then when Ted calls to talk to Henry about it, where was Henry?

[01:00:26] At the park, playing at the park.

[01:00:31] Okay.

[01:00:32] Then after he has the talk with Ted, where it was really,

[01:00:38] Henry wasn't in trouble, it was what a bad decision you made.

[01:00:42] I should have counted to 10, Dad, just like you said.

[01:00:44] Oh, that's good advice.

[01:00:46] My dad used to say that.

[01:00:47] Okay.

[01:00:47] Well, let's go play Roblox now, son.

[01:00:49] No, no.

[01:00:51] You do not just play Roblox after something like this happens.

[01:00:55] This is why kids have no accountability anymore.

[01:01:00] Is because parents are like, yeah, go to the park.

[01:01:03] Go play Roblox.

[01:01:04] Go do whatever you can so that I don't have to deal with you right now,

[01:01:07] because that's what I hear.

[01:01:12] Okay.

[01:01:14] I-

[01:01:14] Henry should have been in a lot more trouble for punching a kid at school.

[01:01:19] I do agree with that.

[01:01:21] I do think there was a purpose to the conversation between Henry and Ted,

[01:01:26] but I do agree with you on the no, let's not.

[01:01:29] I think the whole play in Roblox thing is just like Ted's,

[01:01:32] because they're so far apart, that's really the only way he has to kind of like-

[01:01:39] No.

[01:01:39] That's his time with Henry.

[01:01:41] No.

[01:01:43] No.

[01:01:44] No, no, no.

[01:01:46] Look, yeah, I get it.

[01:01:47] Okay?

[01:01:48] But you can't be Disneyland Dad.

[01:01:49] You can't.

[01:01:51] You cannot be Disneyland Dad.

[01:01:53] Okay?

[01:01:53] That is not doing Henry any service.

[01:01:56] That's not doing Ted any service.

[01:01:58] That's not doing Ted's mom any service, because what?

[01:02:02] She has to be the disciplinarian 100% of the time, which she obviously sucks at

[01:02:07] because he was at the park and is dating her marriage therapist boyfriend.

[01:02:17] So I just have a real big problem with this because,

[01:02:21] not because it affects the story at all, but just because it is a terrible example,

[01:02:29] but it's also what is happening today with parents and children.

[01:02:35] Parents are so scared of their kids hating them that they are allowed to do whatever they

[01:02:41] want. I got punched this year twice.

[01:02:45] I got punched twice at work as a teacher.

[01:02:49] Nothing happened to that kid.

[01:02:51] I left my job as a result.

[01:02:54] Nothing happened to that kid.

[01:02:56] A teacher should not be punched.

[01:02:58] No, I agree.

[01:03:00] And admin and county office and the parents should not be mad at the teacher

[01:03:05] and asking the teacher what they did wrong.

[01:03:07] The accountability has been taken from the child.

[01:03:11] Children today are not being taught accountability, responsibility,

[01:03:14] or consequences of their actions.

[01:03:15] And it is going to ruin everything.

[01:03:19] It's already ruining everything.

[01:03:21] And I think it already has.

[01:03:23] This is something you and I talked about last time we recorded,

[01:03:26] and I don't think it was on the podcast.

[01:03:28] I think we were talking about this beforehand.

[01:03:30] And it was a story I told you about how in my neck of the woods where I live,

[01:03:35] one of the local firehouses here for the past 35 years puts on a carnival at the start

[01:03:44] of the summer season.

[01:03:45] And it is all for charity.

[01:03:47] All the money that they make from this carnival,

[01:03:49] all the proceeds that they make from this carnival go right back into the city.

[01:03:53] The firehouse doesn't keep any of it.

[01:03:55] Which is amazing.

[01:03:56] It's to do more community stuff.

[01:03:58] And again, this is a carnival that has happened for 35 years.

[01:04:01] And there's an addendum to the story that I haven't told you about yet.

[01:04:06] They made an announcement after this year, the 35th year,

[01:04:10] that they are no longer doing it because of the behavior of kids

[01:04:14] that come out to this and not being punished.

[01:04:17] The firehouse came out and said, as much as we regret doing it,

[01:04:21] we cannot condone the behavior and the actions that are shown by particular people

[01:04:25] that show up to these carnivals.

[01:04:28] And we want to remain in good standing with the neighborhood.

[01:04:31] Therefore, we have decided to discontinue this charity.

[01:04:36] And it sucks that a charity that has been going for 35 years has to end

[01:04:41] because kids decide to come out and ruin it for everybody else that is there.

[01:04:48] And the parents are doing nothing.

[01:04:50] The parents are dropping them off and letting them go.

[01:04:55] Look, we can blame the kids all we want,

[01:04:58] but the kids are only as good as their home life is.

[01:05:02] I mean, it's similar to people and pit bulls.

[01:05:06] I'm not talking about your socioeconomic status either.

[01:05:10] No, I agree with you.

[01:05:11] I am talking about the presence of parents,

[01:05:15] which can happen in a million dollar family and a one dollar family.

[01:05:19] The presence of parents.

[01:05:21] Well, I mean, and so the addendum to this story is there's another

[01:05:26] local neighborhood that every year does a big Fourth of July celebration.

[01:05:31] They have outdoor movies and they do fireworks every night.

[01:05:35] And they just recently announced that they are no longer doing that.

[01:05:39] Good.

[01:05:39] For the same reason.

[01:05:40] Let's shut it all down.

[01:05:42] You know what?

[01:05:42] If parents don't want to step up to the plate and start parenting their children,

[01:05:46] I say this as a parent who struggles with parenting my children because I've got one

[01:05:52] that is very obstinate.

[01:05:53] Okay.

[01:05:54] I know how hard it is.

[01:05:55] I'm not speaking from no experience here.

[01:05:57] I know how unbelievably soul crushingly hard it is.

[01:06:01] Okay.

[01:06:01] But if we do not teach our kids how to be responsible human beings,

[01:06:06] then what are we doing?

[01:06:08] What are we doing?

[01:06:11] I'll be honest with you.

[01:06:13] I mean, I used to regret getting to a point in my life.

[01:06:17] I'm like I'm in my early 40s.

[01:06:20] I say early even though I'm closer to me.

[01:06:23] 40s.

[01:06:23] I know how old you are.

[01:06:26] I've never had children of my own.

[01:06:27] I've dated people with children and like there was a part of me that was like

[01:06:32] regretted like, oh, like similar to Rebecca's.

[01:06:34] Like, am I ever going to have children of my own?

[01:06:37] I've gotten to a point in my life where I'm like, you know what?

[01:06:39] I'm okay.

[01:06:40] You're Uncle Walrus.

[01:06:41] Yeah.

[01:06:42] Straw res.

[01:06:43] Oh, Uncle Uncle Strauss.

[01:06:46] I got to spend time with Riley, even more.

[01:06:47] Del Bay and Hershey.

[01:06:48] I love I know.

[01:06:49] I know.

[01:06:49] And I think I'll see you tonight too, actually.

[01:06:51] And I realize that we've gone off of the lasso topic, but this really,

[01:06:56] really bothered me.

[01:06:58] And it's something why this triggered you.

[01:06:59] And it's something that's just real.

[01:07:01] It's thrown away.

[01:07:03] But as a teacher, as I look, I just came off of one of the hardest years I've had

[01:07:13] as a professional ever.

[01:07:16] The parents that screamed at me for their kids behavior, for their kids work,

[01:07:22] for their kids lack of responsibility, for their kids.

[01:07:26] It all came back on me at every time I turned around.

[01:07:30] It all came back on me.

[01:07:33] I have changed so much as a teacher from the beginning of this year to today.

[01:07:39] And it's because of these parents that refuse to parent their children

[01:07:44] and expect me to do it.

[01:07:46] No, I will not parent your child.

[01:07:49] I will teach your child.

[01:07:51] And if they are out of line, they can go home for all I care.

[01:07:57] But I'm being told that I have to change grades.

[01:08:00] I'm being told that I have to give chances on kids that don't deserve them.

[01:08:04] I'm being told that I have to apologize to parents and apologize to 12-year-olds

[01:08:11] if their feelings are hurt.

[01:08:15] And I'm talking about very simple things.

[01:08:17] I'm not berating children.

[01:08:19] Okay?

[01:08:21] I am holding them accountable to what my expectations are in my classroom.

[01:08:26] And you know what happens?

[01:08:27] Nothing.

[01:08:28] Nothing happens.

[01:08:30] Well, I mean, and I think a big and again, not to get too farther off topic, too,

[01:08:33] but you and I have discussed this before.

[01:08:35] And funny enough, it's actually even right before we started recording,

[01:08:39] I showed you the new Eminem video for Houdini.

[01:08:43] And it's actually in that video is that we are in a time and day

[01:08:47] and age of the whole everybody gets a trophy era.

[01:08:51] And I think that is also hugely part of the problem.

[01:08:54] When Eminem said I want to throw a participation trophy at a child,

[01:08:57] I was like, yes, let's do that.

[01:09:00] It's just, you know, and I also want to preface this whole conversation, too,

[01:09:03] by saying that we are not saying that every parent is like this.

[01:09:07] I have friends and I know a lot of people who are fucking amazing parents.

[01:09:12] Okay, fine.

[01:09:13] You can say that all you want.

[01:09:15] It's about 80% of the parents.

[01:09:16] It's most parents.

[01:09:17] It's parents that I'm telling you right now, some of you that are listening,

[01:09:22] you are those parents and you don't even know it.

[01:09:25] And I say this with all love and all respect and all gratefulness

[01:09:30] that you listen to my podcast, but clean it up.

[01:09:34] Be better, do better.

[01:09:35] Okay?

[01:09:36] Because teachers are dying out there.

[01:09:39] They're dying.

[01:09:41] Okay.

[01:09:41] Okay.

[01:09:42] I think that's a good way to wrap that.

[01:09:44] Yeah.

[01:09:45] And Henry should have gotten grounded.

[01:09:47] So on the other end of that.

[01:09:50] They could have played Scrabble.

[01:09:51] They could have just said it could have just been Ted saying,

[01:09:55] you know what, buddy?

[01:09:56] Like I got to talk to the team.

[01:09:57] But when I get home, we're going to talk about this a little bit more.

[01:10:01] Oh, there you go.

[01:10:03] They didn't even have to be playing a game.

[01:10:05] Let's do Roblox.

[01:10:06] Okay, buddy.

[01:10:07] You and me.

[01:10:07] It's on.

[01:10:08] No, fuck you.

[01:10:09] No.

[01:10:10] Sorry.

[01:10:11] No, agreed.

[01:10:12] I see it now.

[01:10:13] I see that.

[01:10:15] And I completely see everything that you were talking about now.

[01:10:20] So actually, thank you for bringing it up.

[01:10:22] No, it's fine.

[01:10:23] No problem.

[01:10:23] People that are terrible parents, people that listen to us know by now that we go

[01:10:31] off on tangents and a lot of its real life.

[01:10:34] I mean, and you know what?

[01:10:35] I think that's one of the reasons why we have some of the listeners that we do

[01:10:38] is because we don't play around with bullshit.

[01:10:41] We're very open about like you talk about your struggles as a teacher.

[01:10:44] I talk about struggles as do you with anxiety and depression.

[01:10:47] Like we talk about this shit because it happens to be a part of one of the reasons

[01:10:53] why we love these shows and it's stuff that is addressed with these shows.

[01:10:57] So like, why not talk about it?

[01:10:59] If we don't avoid it, like we talk about it.

[01:11:02] I'm going to talk more about it when we talk about Ted's speech.

[01:11:06] There's a reason why that speech hits me as hard as it does.

[01:11:10] It's awesome.

[01:11:12] But again, real quick to the tail end of that with that.

[01:11:16] I do like the fact that if there's anything that can be appreciated from that phone call

[01:11:21] with Henry, is that the fact that Ted learns a lesson from Henry in realizing a lesson that

[01:11:28] he taught Henry?

[01:11:29] Like it's kind of a lesson kind of comes back on himself.

[01:11:33] You know, count to 10.

[01:11:35] If it doesn't work, do it again.

[01:11:37] Like he taught Henry that Henry realized that something he should have done to begin with.

[01:11:43] And he repeats that to Ted.

[01:11:45] And then when he hangs up on the call and the panic attack starts to build again,

[01:11:49] what does he do?

[01:11:51] He does the internal breathing.

[01:11:53] He's counting.

[01:11:54] He is mentally counting to himself.

[01:11:56] And you know what?

[01:11:57] It works.

[01:11:59] He comes out of the panic attack.

[01:12:01] Yes.

[01:12:02] And he has this big smile on his face because he realizes it worked.

[01:12:07] Yep.

[01:12:08] He gave it a chance.

[01:12:10] Yeah.

[01:12:11] Yeah.

[01:12:11] And I'll be honest with you, from what I remember, I don't think there's any more

[01:12:16] anxiety attacks for the rest of the show.

[01:12:19] I think that's the last one.

[01:12:21] If it is, then it's because he has had a moment of clarity.

[01:12:25] Yes, exactly.

[01:12:27] And that's one of the reasons I love that.

[01:12:31] But unless you have anything else.

[01:12:35] Let's go to the speech.

[01:12:36] Let's go to the speech.

[01:12:36] Actually, I will mention one more thing real quick.

[01:12:39] I love the fact that Beard is back to reading Inverted the Pyramid again.

[01:12:44] We know how many times he has read that book.

[01:12:47] It's all tabbed up.

[01:12:48] It's tabbed up.

[01:12:49] He's reading it again, and he's at the beginning of the book.

[01:12:52] So you know this is yet another reread of Inverting the Pyramid.

[01:12:57] Well, they got to start over.

[01:12:59] Zava's gone.

[01:13:00] True.

[01:13:02] But yeah, let's talk about Ted's speech because again,

[01:13:06] I said this at the top of the episode.

[01:13:09] This is we get a lot of great Ted speeches throughout this show,

[01:13:15] throughout this series, all three seasons.

[01:13:18] This one I remember the first time I watched this episode.

[01:13:24] I remember being incredibly emotional at that speech.

[01:13:29] He's such a good dude, Ted Lasso.

[01:13:32] Because of a lot of the things that he says in that speech,

[01:13:37] I know personally are roadblocks of my own.

[01:13:43] He mentions envy and the lack of hope.

[01:13:47] Envy, fear, and shame.

[01:13:48] Envy, fear, and shame.

[01:13:50] Look, people who know me personally know I get to go to these great conventions

[01:13:57] and moderate and meet these amazing people.

[01:14:01] But that's not to say that there are not still times in my life

[01:14:05] that I don't get envious of other people who do the same thing I do.

[01:14:09] Because maybe they got to meet somebody I have never had an opportunity to do.

[01:14:14] I've never had the opportunity to meet.

[01:14:16] They've got to go to cities I've never had an opportunity to go to,

[01:14:19] even though I've tried.

[01:14:21] Or go to events and cover events that I've always wanted to.

[01:14:25] Yes, I get envious of other people in the same situation as me.

[01:14:29] But at the same time, and this is kind of diving into the whole personal aspect of it too,

[01:14:33] as much success as I've had in doing things like that,

[01:14:36] and as much as I've had people tell me how envious they are of me

[01:14:40] for getting to do these things, and as many great opportunities I have,

[01:14:44] there are still many times in my life, even now, I feel like a failure.

[01:14:54] So you can understand why this speech hits me as hard as it does.

[01:15:00] Yeah, absolutely.

[01:15:02] I'm holding back emotion right now talking about it.

[01:15:06] Oh, that's great.

[01:15:07] Because...

[01:15:08] That's not...

[01:15:08] I mean, you know.

[01:15:09] No, I know what you mean.

[01:15:11] But every time I watch that speech, it hits me.

[01:15:14] That's awesome.

[01:15:15] And it makes me realize, no, I need to have the hope that I can be better,

[01:15:21] that I can get past all of these things.

[01:15:25] And it's one of the reasons why this speech has the biggest impact on me.

[01:15:31] I think of any other speech in the show.

[01:15:36] I would agree that it is a very, very good speech.

[01:15:42] Absolutely.

[01:15:43] I took the speech a little bit differently because I love the way that it was edited.

[01:15:48] No, and I do too, but I was kind of leaving that for you.

[01:15:52] Oh, okay.

[01:15:54] So for me, it was when he begins, he says,

[01:15:59] we didn't need Zava to begin with.

[01:16:01] He looks at Jamie because they had Jamie.

[01:16:04] Yep.

[01:16:05] Well, I mean, and even not to kind of cut you off too much.

[01:16:08] Yeah, that's okay. Cut me off.

[01:16:10] He looks at Jamie and he sees Jamie because he knows...

[01:16:14] It's not just because they have Jamie, but because Jamie is the team.

[01:16:19] Jamie also knew it.

[01:16:21] Zava was a player.

[01:16:23] Jamie is the team.

[01:16:24] Yeah. Yeah, I would agree with that.

[01:16:27] He takes the believed sign and he tears it down.

[01:16:30] And then he rips it up, rips it up, which everybody goes crazy.

[01:16:35] Right? And he talks about those three things that they're all messing around with now.

[01:16:40] They go envy, shame and fear.

[01:16:43] Now with shame, they cut to Colin.

[01:16:47] With fear, I believe it is intended, I think it was cut to Rebecca.

[01:16:53] And for envy, it was Danny because all he wants is to be Zava at all times immediately.

[01:17:00] Then he says, I want to mess around with the belief that I matter.

[01:17:04] When he said that it was cut over to Nate because that's all Nate has ever wanted.

[01:17:09] He has wanted to matter to somebody.

[01:17:12] He felt that he mattered at Richmond, but that feeling went away when Ted's focus was split.

[01:17:22] He didn't feel that he mattered anymore.

[01:17:24] That's why he left.

[01:17:25] Right? The belief that we all deserve to be loved.

[01:17:28] That's Keely.

[01:17:29] Roy broke up with Keely.

[01:17:30] Keely probably didn't see it coming and didn't feel lovable as a result.

[01:17:36] Right?

[01:17:36] She's going to get that from Jack for right now.

[01:17:40] Maybe we've hurt somebody else that went to Roy.

[01:17:43] Obviously, we know what that's about.

[01:17:46] The belief of hope.

[01:17:47] We go to Rebecca looking at the green matchbook.

[01:17:50] The belief that I can get better, that we can get better and that we will get better.

[01:17:55] That's all the team right there.

[01:17:59] Then we have the believe sign.

[01:18:01] This is what I just wrote down.

[01:18:02] Sometimes you have to rip it all apart to build it back up better.

[01:18:07] The team has been stripped down of everything on the surface,

[01:18:09] but they don't realize that what they have in each other is really all they need.

[01:18:15] I think that that is the whole message.

[01:18:17] Right?

[01:18:17] Is that we need to believe in ourselves before we can start believing in anything else.

[01:18:23] Because if you don't believe in yourself, if you don't believe in your story,

[01:18:26] if you don't believe in what you're doing, then what are you doing?

[01:18:30] Yeah.

[01:18:31] And for people that might be at a crossroads or a transitional point in their lives,

[01:18:35] these kinds of speeches can hit a lot harder

[01:18:39] because it's like that speech was written for you, if that makes sense?

[01:18:45] There's a particular line in this entire speech and it's the weirdest line to say

[01:18:50] hits you the hardest.

[01:18:52] Again, as somebody who is impacted by the speech.

[01:18:55] And it's only problem is we got so much junk floating.

[01:18:59] Oh, you said, okay, so that it's the fact that when he says,

[01:19:02] you know, crap like envy, fear or shame,

[01:19:05] it's the line immediately proceeding that or immediately following that where he says,

[01:19:10] and I don't want to mess around with that shit anymore.

[01:19:15] I want to mess around with hope.

[01:19:17] I want to mess around with.

[01:19:18] Yeah.

[01:19:18] Yeah.

[01:19:19] And it's in that moment.

[01:19:20] He's like, no, me neither.

[01:19:21] Like, hell no.

[01:19:22] It's in that moment.

[01:19:24] Like you answer that question.

[01:19:26] Like you are sitting in that locker room.

[01:19:28] You are kind of realizing all these things that you yourself are going through,

[01:19:32] like me personally.

[01:19:34] And when he asks that question, like you are mentally in your mind,

[01:19:38] you're like, no, I don't.

[01:19:41] Like this is a motivational speech for anybody, not just Richmond.

[01:19:48] You know, like it's just.

[01:19:51] Yeah.

[01:19:51] You know, and then to follow it up at the end to like.

[01:19:53] That's like the whole thing, right?

[01:19:55] I mean, that's that's Ted Lasso is that usually whatever he has to say at the end.

[01:20:00] Well, it's for the team.

[01:20:02] It's really for us.

[01:20:03] Yeah.

[01:20:04] And then the most powerful line of it to believe in yourself,

[01:20:08] to believe in one another, that's fundamental to being alive.

[01:20:14] And if you can do that.

[01:20:16] Can't nobody rip that apart.

[01:20:19] It's true.

[01:20:20] And then he leaves the ripped up pages on the little seat there.

[01:20:25] Yep.

[01:20:25] He tears it again.

[01:20:26] He tears it a second time.

[01:20:28] Yep.

[01:20:29] And he leaves them there.

[01:20:30] And then that's where.

[01:20:33] The episode ends.

[01:20:34] Right.

[01:20:35] What did you think I was going to say?

[01:20:36] I don't know.

[01:20:38] I was going to say there's more to that than for spoilers, but it's

[01:20:42] that's all I was going to say.

[01:20:43] Well, it goes it then cuts to Roy and and Jamie when he says tomorrow at 4am

[01:20:50] and he says damn fucking right.

[01:20:51] And then that's the last lines of the episode.

[01:20:53] Because that's when you're that's when you're least likely to defend yourself.

[01:20:57] Yes.

[01:20:59] And then it cuts to the sign torn up on the stool and that's where the episode ends.

[01:21:06] It's a great episode.

[01:21:09] Again, that speech.

[01:21:11] I forgot that speech happens in this episode.

[01:21:16] I'm just glad that we have Ted back.

[01:21:19] We have Ted back.

[01:21:20] We have what we're going to have Jamie back, but we never really lost Jamie.

[01:21:29] He was finally gets to be Jamie.

[01:21:32] He was forced into a backseat.

[01:21:35] Now he gets a ride shotgun again, which is great.

[01:21:41] You know, we're.

[01:21:45] Yeah, there's, you know, there's coming into some good points.

[01:21:48] Some times there's some great stuff coming, especially with

[01:21:51] sunflowers with the next.

[01:21:54] We've made no bones about the sunflowers might be you and our

[01:21:57] you and our favorite episode of the entire series.

[01:22:00] No, that is my favorite episode.

[01:22:01] Yeah, it's 100%.

[01:22:03] There is there's nothing bad about the episode.

[01:22:06] No, there's so much great.

[01:22:08] I think it's one of the highest rated episodes of the series.

[01:22:10] It's not.

[01:22:12] It's well, the finale is pretty highly rated.

[01:22:14] Well, yeah, obviously, but it's not.

[01:22:17] That's the weirdest part is that it's like it's like an eight.

[01:22:21] No, I don't think it was that low, was it?

[01:22:23] Yes.

[01:22:25] Now I got to look it up to find out.

[01:22:27] I know I can't believe let me see series season three.

[01:22:33] Oh yeah, it's only an eight point nine.

[01:22:37] What it should be.

[01:22:39] It's whatever.

[01:22:41] It's not maybe it's just not everybody's cup of tea for me.

[01:22:44] It is like it is perfect episode of television.

[01:22:47] It is the third highest rated episode of the season.

[01:22:51] Mom City and So Long Farewell, which are the last two episodes of the highest.

[01:22:55] I love Mom City.

[01:22:58] That Mom City is a great, great episode.

[01:23:01] I do love Mom City a lot.

[01:23:03] The only other episode out of these last bunch of episodes that I'm

[01:23:09] kind of like about is We'll Never Have Paris, which is episode eight.

[01:23:14] Yeah.

[01:23:15] Oh, wait before we end all of this.

[01:23:19] Go into spoilers?

[01:23:21] Yeah, we get a little sign.

[01:23:24] We get a little call back to Leslie Higgins talking about his dad with Jamie Tart about

[01:23:30] how he's like I try to forgive him for who he is and who he isn't or whatever.

[01:23:33] And then later he reads the text message from his dad.

[01:23:37] I have that in quotes.

[01:23:39] But like that is our sign of oh Higgins's dad is not Higgins because you would assume

[01:23:47] that being like Sam, right?

[01:23:50] Sam has this amazing dad.

[01:23:52] So you would kind of assume that Higgins has this amazing dad and he doesn't.

[01:23:55] He has an asshole for a dad.

[01:23:59] I'll just mention it now.

[01:24:00] I have it in quotes.

[01:24:01] Actually the first quote I have in my list of quotes when he says,

[01:24:04] Oh, well, that's not very nice.

[01:24:06] And it's like what he's like even with Zaba.

[01:24:08] Richmond eats more ass than your mom and beards like, buddy, you got to stay on Twitter.

[01:24:13] He's like that's a text from my father.

[01:24:15] Also, why are we talking about his mom like that?

[01:24:23] I'm telling you, man.

[01:24:26] It is so not Higgins.

[01:24:28] You kind of wonder who raised Higgins to be as wonderful as Higgins is.

[01:24:34] You know what?

[01:24:35] Sometimes we have to mentally.

[01:24:39] Excuse me.

[01:24:41] Sometimes we have to mentally separate ourselves from who our fathers are.

[01:24:46] I've talked about this before.

[01:24:47] I don't speak to my father anymore and I am a completely different man than my father is

[01:24:52] because I don't speak to my father.

[01:24:53] Yeah, but have you ever had like a really positive role model in your life?

[01:24:58] Male role model male role model.

[01:25:05] It's weird to say, but like and again, anybody who knows me personally knows this

[01:25:11] about me already.

[01:25:11] One of the main reasons why I was devastated over Robin Williams death

[01:25:16] was because I kind of looked to him as a role model.

[01:25:18] Yeah, well, I mean, OK, so that's one thing, but I'm just talking about like

[01:25:22] somebody that had like a coach or a teacher or something like that that I've had.

[01:25:26] I've had male teachers that I've really bonded with because that makes a huge difference.

[01:25:31] Yeah, especially if you have crap parents, which most kids do.

[01:25:36] Yeah, I've had male teachers that I've that I've definitely had great relationships with

[01:25:44] and almost looked towards for stuff.

[01:25:47] I've had great female teachers the same way.

[01:25:51] My music teacher in high school, Mrs. Mazer is still I'm so thankful the fact

[01:25:56] that I keep in touch with her.

[01:25:58] And again, I'm in my mid 40s.

[01:26:00] Like I still keep in touch with her because she impacted my life so much.

[01:26:05] Right. Right.

[01:26:07] You know, and I still love the fact that I keep a relationship with her even after all this time.

[01:26:15] So I've had I've definitely had people who've impacted my life.

[01:26:18] Sadly, one of them was not my father.

[01:26:22] Right. Yeah.

[01:26:25] So but that's because my father is, you know,

[01:26:29] not to go into too much details, but was was not a faithful person to either of his wives,

[01:26:37] including one he's still married to, you know, continues to choose when it comes to

[01:26:45] life things with like, you know, when it comes to choosing a side between him or his children,

[01:26:51] he chooses her every time.

[01:26:53] You know, there's a lot of stuff there that I am.

[01:26:57] But again, everybody who knows me and knows my father also knows that I'm a better person.

[01:27:03] Because I do not have my father.

[01:27:06] Yeah. And that's okay.

[01:27:07] Anyway, so that that's Leslie Higgins, the little Higgins kernel that I had.

[01:27:15] And I will I will end with this.

[01:27:19] I cannot wait to talk about Higgins next week.

[01:27:23] Higgins next week.

[01:27:25] Higgins next week.

[01:27:26] Yeah, Higgins and Will next week.

[01:27:28] Higgins and Will next week are it's one of my favorite parts of that episode.

[01:27:33] You know what? I love this episode so much.

[01:27:37] I might hang out with you and go downstairs and watch it.

[01:27:41] Yeah. Um, you know, research for research.

[01:27:45] Yeah. Oh, I'm not gonna lie.

[01:27:47] It'll probably be an episode I watched three or four times before we record.

[01:27:50] Yeah. Starting tonight.

[01:27:52] I have to watch it.

[01:27:54] I have to watch a movie before I go to a screening tomorrow.

[01:27:56] So I probably not.

[01:28:00] But maybe tomorrow when I get home from the screen.

[01:28:02] Ah, poop on you.

[01:28:03] All right.

[01:28:04] But for anybody listening who wants to avoid spoilers,

[01:28:06] we're going to go into a little bit of spoiler conversation.

[01:28:09] So just check the show notes to find out when you can come back into the conversation

[01:28:14] for favorite quotes and feedback and recommendations.

[01:28:18] That said, I'm going to throw out a quick one.

[01:28:22] Yeah.

[01:28:22] For spoilers.

[01:28:24] The fan yelling at McAdoo and yelling at the team.

[01:28:28] Yeah.

[01:28:30] He is going to play a pretty important role.

[01:28:33] Yeah.

[01:28:34] In coming up in a few episodes.

[01:28:38] Yeah.

[01:28:39] The yelling that he's doing to the team right now, he's going to cross a line.

[01:28:47] Very major league.

[01:28:48] And McAdoo is going to have some things to say about it.

[01:28:55] I'm excited.

[01:28:56] Yeah.

[01:28:57] I think that's episode.

[01:28:59] I think that's episode.

[01:29:01] It's coming.

[01:29:04] I think it's episode 10.

[01:29:08] I think so.

[01:29:09] Oh, no, it's episode nine.

[01:29:11] But the locker room follies.

[01:29:13] Colin and Isaac's friendship is tested.

[01:29:16] So it's definitely episode nine.

[01:29:19] Another great episode, too, by the way.

[01:29:22] But yeah, it was fun seeing that fan now because I'm like,

[01:29:26] that guy's going to get himself in some trouble.

[01:29:29] You're going to get it.

[01:29:32] What's something you've got for spoilers?

[01:29:35] So I think that this is the episode where Ted realizes it's time to go home.

[01:29:40] I do, too.

[01:29:42] I think that's his moment of clarity.

[01:29:44] Yep.

[01:29:45] I was thinking the same thing watching this and like, oh, I bet you this is when

[01:29:50] the idea of going home is starting to hit Ted.

[01:29:53] Yep.

[01:29:54] He is missing Henry's life.

[01:29:57] And Michelle's doing a shit job letting him go to the park after being a bully.

[01:30:01] And there's nothing he can do about it.

[01:30:03] Like, there is nothing he can do.

[01:30:05] That feeling of being helpless.

[01:30:07] That's my biggest fear in life of being helpless,

[01:30:11] of knowing there's something happening, but there's nothing you can do about it.

[01:30:16] And that's what Ted's feeling right now.

[01:30:18] Yeah.

[01:30:20] Yeah.

[01:30:21] 100%.

[01:30:22] So when he says he's OK, he's OK, and he's counting and he's doing his

[01:30:32] emotional regulation to get out of the panic attack, I think that he comes out of that

[01:30:39] and he knows the answer.

[01:30:42] Yeah, I could see that.

[01:30:45] I could see it's not until mom city that he it's very clear.

[01:30:49] That's the answer because his mom kind of helps him put like when his mom tells him,

[01:30:54] like your son misses you and he's like, you don't think I know that?

[01:30:58] Like, that's the final nail in the case.

[01:31:00] Mom sucks.

[01:31:04] Yeah.

[01:31:05] But you know what?

[01:31:06] The whole conversation with him and I know we're getting ahead of ourselves,

[01:31:09] but the whole conversation with his mom where he's like, you know what?

[01:31:11] Thank you.

[01:31:12] Thank you for this and thank you for that and fuck you.

[01:31:16] We don't we very rarely ever hear Ted curse, especially to his mama, to his mom.

[01:31:22] You don't do that.

[01:31:24] He tells his mom, fuck you quite a few times in that conversation.

[01:31:27] Well, I think it was coming.

[01:31:29] I do too.

[01:31:31] How about you?

[01:31:32] Do you have another one?

[01:31:34] The tearing of the sign.

[01:31:37] I mean, it bookends a great ending story of this.

[01:31:42] I love I love what happens with this sign because I love what happens with this.

[01:31:48] So funny enough, and I'll talk about this again when we get to the finale,

[01:31:52] but I remember like going into the finale, like I when the when the show was airing,

[01:31:57] I would watch it the next day.

[01:31:59] And when the when the series finale was airing,

[01:32:02] I was like, nope, I'm staying up and I'm watching this tonight.

[01:32:04] Like I'm not going to bed.

[01:32:06] I'm watching this when it drops on Apple and I was watching it in my bedroom.

[01:32:11] And I remember like there being like emotional and like getting like choked up

[01:32:17] at particular moments like Ted and Rebecca in the stands and Rebecca asking him to stay

[01:32:22] and like on Ted's and Nate's apology to Ted and like all these other great emotional beats.

[01:32:29] But man, and I was holding it together so well.

[01:32:34] But I remember during that finale, the moment Sam puts his hand up,

[01:32:41] you know, like to say like when Ted's like anybody got anything

[01:32:44] and Sam puts his head up and he reaches behind the photo of him

[01:32:50] or the Nigerian team and he takes out the piece of the sign.

[01:32:54] And I realized that every one of them kept a piece of that sign.

[01:32:59] Not only that, I didn't realize it until it started happening.

[01:33:03] It was I didn't realize it until Jamie took out his.

[01:33:07] That was when I was like in the book that he threw away in a wrinkle in time.

[01:33:12] Yep. No, no, he didn't have wrinkle in time.

[01:33:15] No, Roy has a wrinkle in time.

[01:33:17] Yeah. You want me to be the little girl I'd like you to want to be.

[01:33:21] But well, if you look at it too, like when you rewatch,

[01:33:24] and we'll again, we'll talk about this more in detail.

[01:33:27] But when you rewatch that scene,

[01:33:30] pay attention to where some of the players are taking that sign from.

[01:33:34] Yeah.

[01:33:35] McAdoo's is under his captain's band.

[01:33:37] Keep them on their person.

[01:33:39] Not all of them do.

[01:33:40] No, because Sam's was in the locker.

[01:33:42] Jamie's was in the locker.

[01:33:43] Yeah, but Sam's was exactly where.

[01:33:46] Well, that's the thing for many of them.

[01:33:48] They're in very meaningful places.

[01:33:50] McAdoo's was under the captain's band.

[01:33:54] The other, the Italian player, I forget his name, was in the bottle

[01:33:58] that he poured the liquor out of in the barrel scene in season one.

[01:34:04] Yeah.

[01:34:04] You have to re, when you rewatch that scene,

[01:34:07] pay attention to where some of them are taking the pieces from.

[01:34:09] Yeah, we'll keep a list.

[01:34:11] We'll keep a list.

[01:34:12] That's a very special moment.

[01:34:15] So seeing him, because he even says to Nate too,

[01:34:18] during the apology and the finale, he's like,

[01:34:21] he's like, you only tore it once.

[01:34:22] I tore that thing up twice.

[01:34:24] And when you watch the episode, I'm like, yeah,

[01:34:26] I counted like he tore it up twice.

[01:34:28] Yeah.

[01:34:31] So it's, and I think one of the reasons why that scene is so meaningful in the finale

[01:34:37] is because you never see what happens to the sign in this episode.

[01:34:40] Right.

[01:34:41] It fades the black on the sign.

[01:34:43] You just think it's been thrown away.

[01:34:44] Yep.

[01:34:45] Yeah.

[01:34:46] And you realize it was never garbage.

[01:34:48] They all kept that sign.

[01:34:50] Which is something that we should have known, to be quite honest, knowing that team.

[01:34:56] Yeah.

[01:34:58] But you know, we were in it.

[01:35:02] Jack, Jack is the perfect like rebound relationship.

[01:35:11] She's all fun and games.

[01:35:12] It's all fun in the very beginning, but then when things get serious,

[01:35:16] Jack chooses career over Keely.

[01:35:19] She chooses optics over Keely.

[01:35:22] She chooses what her dad tells her to do instead of Keely.

[01:35:27] And it proves that this was a very convenient, superficial rebound relationship

[01:35:34] that Keely probably thought was more serious because

[01:35:37] Keely is a serious relationship kind of character.

[01:35:41] Yeah.

[01:35:41] She doesn't do flings.

[01:35:43] She doesn't.

[01:35:44] I mean, there are people in this world,

[01:35:45] and I'm one of them who doesn't enter into a relationship to be a rebound.

[01:35:50] It just ends up becoming that you enter into every relationship, hoping it's the one.

[01:35:55] Not well, yes, those kinds of people, your kinds of people.

[01:35:59] Yes.

[01:35:59] But there are millions of people out there that just want.

[01:36:03] Yeah.

[01:36:03] It's just a fling.

[01:36:04] They just want somebody for the moment and then goodbye.

[01:36:09] This is for now, not forever.

[01:36:11] Yeah.

[01:36:12] Yeah.

[01:36:12] Right.

[01:36:13] A for now kind of relationship.

[01:36:15] And that's why rebounds become what they are is because unless both people are the,

[01:36:20] this is the forever.

[01:36:23] If one of them say this is for now, not forever, then it's going to be a rebound.

[01:36:27] Sometimes we just need a rebound too.

[01:36:29] I mean, I've had a couple of rebound relationships where

[01:36:34] I had no business in them and I knew it.

[01:36:37] I was like, I don't know why I'm with you.

[01:36:39] You are bad.

[01:36:40] The worst ones are the ones you don't realize are rebounds until it's over.

[01:36:44] Yeah.

[01:36:44] Well, I was then I was in a two and a half year rebound relationship

[01:36:49] because that was the worst one ever.

[01:36:50] That's what I mean.

[01:36:52] Like the ones that last a long time and you think are the ones and you realize,

[01:36:56] no, this was just a rebound.

[01:36:58] Oh, yeah.

[01:36:59] Oh, yeah.

[01:36:59] I made some pretty bad decisions after my sister died.

[01:37:04] So anyways, that I think is all I have for spoilers.

[01:37:10] So I have one more.

[01:37:11] Okay.

[01:37:11] This is the one that I thought of during the episode that now you have to take a guess.

[01:37:16] We get to see John Wings night again in this season.

[01:37:19] Do you remember when it is?

[01:37:21] I think it was in the stands and he was wearing all Richmond gear, wasn't he?

[01:37:24] He's in the stands.

[01:37:26] He's wearing our Richmond's gear, Richmond gear, and he takes a ball

[01:37:31] square to the face when McAdoo kicks it through the net.

[01:37:38] He is the one that takes the ball to the face.

[01:37:40] I got to tell you, I mean, good.

[01:37:44] There's nothing wrong with him.

[01:37:45] He's just douchey.

[01:37:46] Yeah.

[01:37:47] Well, because and it's funny too, because again, it's a book end of that character,

[01:37:51] because if you remember, he is a West Ham fan.

[01:37:54] No, no.

[01:37:55] Whoever's winning.

[01:37:56] Remember his scarf?

[01:37:57] It was half Man City and half West Ham.

[01:37:59] Oh, is that what it was?

[01:38:00] I don't remember that.

[01:38:01] Whoever's winning.

[01:38:02] He just likes the best team.

[01:38:04] That's why when he's in all Richmond gear at that game, he's just bandwagoning.

[01:38:11] But he's not just well, he's not just in all Richmond gear.

[01:38:15] He's standing up cheering with a full on bloody face.

[01:38:22] Like because the right remember to it's also a great moment with

[01:38:25] Barbara because Barbara sees the blood and starts cheering.

[01:38:28] Yeah.

[01:38:30] Barbara is it is the game going to be as violent as it was last time?

[01:38:32] No.

[01:38:33] Then I'm out.

[01:38:36] Barbara wants blood.

[01:38:38] Yeah.

[01:38:38] Barbara is amazing.

[01:38:39] I have a student that's like Barbara, very, very technical, very pedantic,

[01:38:46] very within the confines of what needs to be done and excels greatly at those confines,

[01:38:55] but is out for blood.

[01:38:57] We play a game when we're not in class and this student is out for blood,

[01:39:03] wants to hurt people and is very open about it.

[01:39:08] So it's really funny to me because I see a lot of that student in Barbara,

[01:39:12] which makes me love Barbara even more because I love that student.

[01:39:16] And I'm not going to tell you if it's boy or girl.

[01:39:18] Okay.

[01:39:19] That's fair enough.

[01:39:20] Because I know I have students that are searching for my podcasts and I'm like,

[01:39:25] maybe I've made it so that you can't find them.

[01:39:30] Yeah.

[01:39:30] So that's all I have for spoilers too.

[01:39:34] So you have nothing else?

[01:39:35] No.

[01:39:35] Okay.

[01:39:36] All right.

[01:39:36] Perfect.

[01:39:37] Then we will welcome back everybody else into it and let's dive into some favorite quotes in

[01:39:42] which I definitely have a couple from this episode.

[01:39:45] I'm just going to kick it off with my Barbara quote.

[01:39:47] My favorite Barbara quote is after Keely, after Keely fire Shandy,

[01:39:52] Barbara and Keely are standing together and Barbara goes,

[01:39:55] well, I'm not going to say it.

[01:39:56] And Keely is like, no, but you're going to think it.

[01:39:58] And she's like, yes, often and sometime and forever.

[01:40:02] I know.

[01:40:03] I think I feel like Barbara and Keely got through some of their awkwardness also in this episode.

[01:40:11] Yeah.

[01:40:12] Well, I love to that when she's fun, she's going to fire Keely.

[01:40:16] Barbara wants to be there for the whole because she's like a shark in the water

[01:40:20] waiting for chum.

[01:40:22] She's waiting for it.

[01:40:23] And then even after she makes Barbara leave and she calls Keely in right before she

[01:40:29] tints the window, Barbara's just sitting there like one eye peeking into the office.

[01:40:36] And it's great.

[01:40:37] I love it.

[01:40:40] I didn't write any quotes down, so keep going so that I can just listen to them and be

[01:40:44] amazed.

[01:40:45] I mean, technically he retired from the whole sport, which makes it feel a little less

[01:40:49] personal.

[01:40:50] Actually, I totally get that.

[01:40:53] If your girlfriend runs off with some dude and it turns out they were soul mates.

[01:40:57] Oh, yeah.

[01:40:58] Gina fucking Gershon.

[01:41:01] It's beard that makes that perfect.

[01:41:03] Yep.

[01:41:04] Yep.

[01:41:05] And the fact that Roy looks at him like, what?

[01:41:08] Well, I also like it that the whole team is like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[01:41:12] And Danny, Danny saying, well, I mean, we could have tried to do that.

[01:41:18] That line.

[01:41:19] I watched that scene twice.

[01:41:22] That line got me every time.

[01:41:23] Like I was just, he's just so cute.

[01:41:26] He is.

[01:41:28] He says between tears.

[01:41:31] This is a line that is divine.

[01:41:35] Oh, what's the oh, it's the follow up that Nate says after that when she makes fun of him or.

[01:41:43] Yeah.

[01:41:43] And he says, oh, what is it?

[01:41:46] Oh, he's like, yeah, for some reason, whenever I'm trying to impress someone,

[01:41:51] I end up sounding like my grand.

[01:41:56] I'm talking about that is the Nate that we love.

[01:41:59] Yeah, that's that's the real Nate.

[01:42:01] That's Nate.

[01:42:03] Yeah.

[01:42:04] Finally, we get to like Nate again.

[01:42:05] It's about effing time.

[01:42:08] A line that comes from Jack that I think hits.

[01:42:12] It's not funny or anything, but she's the one that says the worst people often think

[01:42:15] they're the best.

[01:42:17] And there's so much truth to that.

[01:42:20] Yeah, she's one of them.

[01:42:22] She is one of them.

[01:42:23] Yeah, for sure.

[01:42:27] Oh, let me see.

[01:42:28] I have a couple more.

[01:42:28] I have like one or two more.

[01:42:30] When when Ted says that bully when Henry got bullied at school and Beard's like,

[01:42:36] if we leave right now, we can take the connecting flight through Paris.

[01:42:40] We could be in Kansas City by noon and that punk's house will be in ashes by 12.

[01:42:44] I love it.

[01:42:45] The fact that, you know, he's he's ready to step up and burn the house down.

[01:42:53] And then the only other one I have to is another beard.

[01:42:57] He says Man City.

[01:42:58] I can't believe our white whale has the same name as a strip club where I danced in college.

[01:43:03] It's like so much that I just want I want I want a cut scene.

[01:43:10] Was it with the hula hoop?

[01:43:11] Was it not like I love Beard so much.

[01:43:16] I do too.

[01:43:16] I do love Beard.

[01:43:19] But I think that's all I have for some of the quotes that I saved.

[01:43:23] From this episode.

[01:43:24] Yeah, well, we said a lot to like, yeah, Higgins Higgins was fantastic.

[01:43:30] Eat more ash than your mom.

[01:43:31] My father.

[01:43:33] The text from my father.

[01:43:35] He knew you got to back off Twitter.

[01:43:37] This is a text from my father.

[01:43:40] And then Roy with the beating of the person with the right.

[01:43:43] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[01:43:44] A great one.

[01:43:45] 4 a.m.

[01:43:47] So good.

[01:43:49] It's so freaking good.

[01:43:50] Good.

[01:43:52] All right, so then I guess if we're finished with quotes, we can move on to our listener

[01:43:56] feedback for the episode.

[01:43:58] We have a couple of voicemails and one comment from our friend Megan

[01:44:04] Davie Lehman on Facebook.

[01:44:06] And she says everyone may despise Shandy, but I've got to say leaving a sheep in the

[01:44:12] workplace after you've been fired is a bloody brilliant prank.

[01:44:18] I'm not going to say you're wrong.

[01:44:18] It's a good prank.

[01:44:21] I wouldn't want it done to me.

[01:44:24] Maybe if you had a bad employer, she was a bad employee.

[01:44:30] Oh, God, yeah.

[01:44:31] Like the last principal that I worked for, I would do that to her office and I would

[01:44:36] smile at the thought of it.

[01:44:40] I have I have pranked bosses I've had, but nothing that would ever get me fired

[01:44:45] or infer like retribution.

[01:44:48] Oh, yeah.

[01:44:49] I what I would definitely want retribution.

[01:44:53] I've done it for fun.

[01:44:55] Yeah, that last principle is not fun.

[01:44:58] That last principle deserves the sheep.

[01:45:00] Oh, I remember stories you've told me.

[01:45:02] Yeah.

[01:45:04] Yeah, those stories didn't get better.

[01:45:06] No, like after I left, I kept hearing stories and oh, really?

[01:45:11] Oh, yeah, that I just heard another story like yesterday.

[01:45:14] It's just none of it got better.

[01:45:18] I'll tell you a quick prank I did to one of my bosses before I worked at a job where

[01:45:24] the boss didn't have an office.

[01:45:26] She was sitting her desk was with the rest of us.

[01:45:29] It was like in top of the room, but everybody was in desks like in a in a room.

[01:45:35] So I remember getting there early one morning and we didn't keep our computers locked.

[01:45:41] We didn't have passwords or anything like that because there was nothing like

[01:45:44] in like nothing that would need to be passworded.

[01:45:48] And I remember going to getting there early, going to her computer, opening her computer.

[01:45:53] And I took a screenshot of her desktop and then moved all of her icons into a hidden folder

[01:46:02] and changed the background of her computer to the photo I took of the desktop.

[01:46:06] So it looked like her desktop with all the icons on it.

[01:46:09] But when you clicked on it, nothing happened.

[01:46:11] Oh, that's so awesome.

[01:46:13] Because you're just clicking on a picture.

[01:46:16] There's no icon actually there.

[01:46:18] It was just a screenshot of her desktop.

[01:46:21] And she could not figure out for the life of her why she couldn't

[01:46:26] access any of her icons.

[01:46:28] She couldn't access any programs.

[01:46:30] And everybody in the room knew I did it except for her, which was the best part.

[01:46:36] Because everybody's trying to hold back laughter as to why it was they couldn't do it.

[01:46:42] You guys listen at home can have that one.

[01:46:45] All right, let's go into some of our voicemails for this episode.

[01:46:50] And we're going to kick things off with Jason, who left us feedback for signs.

[01:46:56] Hi, Ben and Kristen.

[01:46:57] This is Jason in San Jose providing feedback for the Ted Lasso episode signs.

[01:47:03] Firstly, I'd like to say welcome back.

[01:47:05] I've missed listening to you guys.

[01:47:07] I too had taken quite a bit of time off recording my podcast as well as feedback.

[01:47:14] The first week of April, I got quite sick and it has taken me about six weeks to get over

[01:47:20] both the cough and ear congestion.

[01:47:23] And I'm finally back to recording during that amount of time.

[01:47:26] I was wondering if I was going to be able to record feedback for this podcast.

[01:47:31] And I was grateful to hear that you were taking some time off as well.

[01:47:34] So it worked out okay for me.

[01:47:36] But yeah, finally back to recording.

[01:47:38] So in the season three rewatch for the episodes, four, five, one big week and signs,

[01:47:46] they were definitely tough episodes to get through with the story of Zava and Shandy,

[01:47:52] the team playing poorly and not communicating and just the level of frustration right before

[01:47:58] feeling sick and starting to watch the episode four or five one with the negativity that was

[01:48:03] starting in that one.

[01:48:04] I decided to shotgun my way through the next couple of episodes in order to get to

[01:48:10] sunflowers.

[01:48:11] And I can't wait to get to that in this rewatch for the podcast.

[01:48:16] So although being a self-centered narcissist, I really did like the character of Zava

[01:48:22] and I believe he was really necessary to help pull the team back together to where

[01:48:27] they need to be.

[01:48:28] And we're starting to see that here in the end of the episode signs.

[01:48:33] Shandy on the other hand, man, what a piece of work.

[01:48:36] Although her leaving did have some comedic value, although not as humorous as Akufo's

[01:48:42] temper tantrum at the end of season two.

[01:48:44] Onto other parts of the episode.

[01:48:46] One of the things I really loved was the moment in the hallway between Ted and Rebecca

[01:48:51] where they mentioned each other's problems of the psychic and the bully and then their

[01:48:56] facial expressions as they turned around.

[01:48:59] There are probably a few other points that I wanted to bring up for this episode, but

[01:49:03] I have since forgotten them.

[01:49:04] But I did want to get to the locker room scene at the end of this episode.

[01:49:10] First is the team is learning about Zava quitting the team and Ted is dealing with

[01:49:16] his anxiety starting to arise again, but using meditation tools to help get him

[01:49:22] through it.

[01:49:23] That's something that I have definitely done.

[01:49:26] But yeah, as Ted is ripping up the believe sign and talking about what it is to

[01:49:32] believe, it doesn't come from the sign, but it comes from inside the heart,

[01:49:36] inside the mind and in the body that a lot of times the things that are

[01:49:42] preventing us from being our higher selves are the things that are getting in the way.

[01:49:47] Like fear, shame and envy.

[01:49:49] And this is where I wanted to talk about the 12 step program that I'm in and using

[01:49:54] the steps to help clear away those things that are within me without getting into

[01:49:59] full details.

[01:50:00] Steps four, five, six and seven are exactly that.

[01:50:04] Four is making an inventory of ourselves and finding out what those fears are,

[01:50:09] what those envious things are, what anger and resentments we're still holding

[01:50:13] on to.

[01:50:14] And moving into five and six helping find what is at the root of those fears

[01:50:20] and resentments, the character defects or as I prefer, character defaults.

[01:50:25] How those old behaviors had helped us out in the past but are no longer serving us.

[01:50:31] Step seven is asking a higher power for those to be removed.

[01:50:35] One of the things that Ted talked about was ourselves being in our own way.

[01:50:40] And I've rewritten one of the prayers that I say to be simply put as God, please help me

[01:50:46] get out of my own way so I can be a better use to the people around me.

[01:50:52] And so, yeah, I really related to his speech and I look forward to the team being able to

[01:50:58] get out of their own heads and get out of the things that are blocking them from

[01:51:03] being their better selves.

[01:51:04] And a lot of that really leads to the next episode of Sunflowers in Amsterdam.

[01:51:09] And I just love that episode and can't wait to get to it.

[01:51:14] So until then, this has been Jason in San Jose saying Namaste, baby.

[01:51:23] Thank you for that, Jason.

[01:51:25] And, you know, I think we talked a little bit earlier in this episode about how we,

[01:51:31] you and I personally kind of open up to personal things in our own lives when it

[01:51:35] comes to the conversation and relating to everything.

[01:51:38] And Jason has done it multiple instances.

[01:51:41] I know Jeff has done it.

[01:51:42] Greg has done it.

[01:51:43] A couple other people have done it too.

[01:51:44] So I just want to say, like, as I really appreciate it when the listeners do the

[01:51:48] same thing.

[01:51:50] I just want to kind of leave it at that.

[01:51:54] Awesome.

[01:51:55] So, okay.

[01:51:57] But thank you, Jason, for that.

[01:51:59] And again, like kind of bringing your own thing into it, your own personal life

[01:52:02] into it.

[01:52:02] Well, with the 12 step.

[01:52:04] But let's move on and let's listen to a voicemail from our friend Alex.

[01:52:11] Hey, y'all.

[01:52:12] Alex Krueger leaving feedback for Ted Lasso season three episode signs in honor of

[01:52:17] meeting Alan Tudyk.

[01:52:18] Please don't fong me, but I've never seen nor read Ready Player One.

[01:52:24] I too have an endless list of must checkouts that I ignore as I watch terrible schlock

[01:52:28] like Once Upon a Time Season six again, I'll bump it up higher.

[01:52:32] I promise.

[01:52:34] Zava is such an interesting character.

[01:52:35] He's both endearing and exhausting when talking of his wife.

[01:52:39] While I like that he sees his wife is the only beautiful woman in the world.

[01:52:42] The way he says he doesn't bother watching TV.

[01:52:44] He'd rather watch her and his kids play.

[01:52:46] I don't know.

[01:52:47] Sound familiar?

[01:52:48] Should.

[01:52:49] Rupert said the same thing at Rebecca's dad's funeral.

[01:52:52] When Zava gives his rousing you can do it speech while leaving out that he meant

[01:52:56] because he was done playing.

[01:52:57] I wonder if he too realizes that he ruined the team by becoming the focus.

[01:53:01] And if he is enlightened enough to take himself away so they can flourish,

[01:53:05] maybe it's not so bad.

[01:53:07] Granted, he leaves without telling anyone.

[01:53:08] So he's still a trash teammate and a trash employee.

[01:53:12] Speaking of trash employees, Shandy's dismissal and reaction might be one of my all time

[01:53:16] favorites.

[01:53:17] And I feel thoroughly convinced that the baby sheep is the one from Shandy's

[01:53:20] introductory episode.

[01:53:22] Also, isn't it kind of odd that Shandy and Zava enter and exit in the same episode?

[01:53:27] There has to be some deeper meaning there, but I can't quite understand the connection.

[01:53:32] Still talk about a character with not a single redeeming quality.

[01:53:35] Of the three main introduced characters this year, Shandy, Zava and Jack,

[01:53:39] Shandy is the worst, a title often reserved for Jack's.

[01:53:43] Speaking of the worst, John's Wings night.

[01:53:45] Come on down.

[01:53:46] You can't wear a scarf that's half man city, half man you.

[01:53:50] It's like wearing a scarf that has half Pittsburgh Penguins and half

[01:53:53] Philadelphia Flyers.

[01:53:55] No one will respect you.

[01:53:56] Everyone will hate you and you deserve it.

[01:53:59] He also sucks for how he happily recounts his story of not letting Sir Anthony Hopkins

[01:54:04] just live his life in peace.

[01:54:06] But two immediate thoughts for Rebecca.

[01:54:08] While doing research, I found this gem.

[01:54:10] There is a couple of the fertility clinic with Rebecca that were also on a date when

[01:54:13] she and Wings night doubled with Keely and Roy in season two episode one.

[01:54:18] I thought that was a cute callback.

[01:54:20] Also, that doctor kind of sucks.

[01:54:22] You have the test results.

[01:54:23] That's more important than the game.

[01:54:25] Don't make Rebecca have anxiety for the next two hours.

[01:54:27] Just give her the damn news now.

[01:54:30] And Teddy boy.

[01:54:31] Oh, Teddy's having one of those days.

[01:54:33] I respect the hell out of Higgins for asking the hard question about potentially

[01:54:37] considering maybe having an initial thought process of maybe entering,

[01:54:41] entertaining the idea that Ted might need to go.

[01:54:44] It is a hard conversation, but he isn't completely off base with how this team

[01:54:48] is going right now.

[01:54:49] And without Zava, who knows how putrid their season would have been right by

[01:54:53] this point?

[01:54:54] Secondly, I have to imagine you guys mentioned this, but Ted is about to pour

[01:54:58] a glass of water while on the phone with Michelle, but then she uses the whiskey

[01:55:01] when she brings up Dr. Dingus having Henry at the park.

[01:55:05] But then when Ted conquers his panic attack by remembering Henry is OK and then addresses

[01:55:09] the team for the first proper motivational speech and what feels like forever.

[01:55:14] Oh, it's as if you can feel Stella getting his groove back just in time for a quick

[01:55:18] trip to Amsterdam.

[01:55:19] Yeah.

[01:55:20] But that's it for me, folks.

[01:55:21] Now off to watch tulips.

[01:55:23] And as always, sun gets attacked in the jungle and you figure it's a good

[01:55:26] time to start the damn Dewey Decimal system.

[01:55:32] First things first.

[01:55:34] First things first.

[01:55:35] Alex, you're going to love when you watch Ready Player One.

[01:55:39] You're going to love it.

[01:55:40] Just read the adult either.

[01:55:42] OK, make a choice.

[01:55:43] Read the read the movie.

[01:55:44] No, read the book.

[01:55:45] Nope, nope, nope.

[01:55:46] I'm telling you right now, make a choice.

[01:55:49] One is not the other and the other is not one.

[01:55:51] I was just agreeing with you.

[01:55:53] No, that's what I'm saying, though.

[01:55:54] Don't do both.

[01:55:55] So if you if you're going to do it, if you're going to do Ready Player

[01:55:58] One, you got to choose one or the other.

[01:56:00] No, I agree with you.

[01:56:01] If you're going to do one or the other, read the book.

[01:56:04] Well, yeah, I 100% agree with that.

[01:56:06] As much as I enjoy the movie, I agree.

[01:56:09] Read the book.

[01:56:09] It's an amazing.

[01:56:11] It's the only book in my library I have read probably more than five times.

[01:56:16] It's a really good book.

[01:56:18] It's a great book.

[01:56:18] I got to reread it.

[01:56:20] But how Stella got his groove back was Stella's getting his groove back a little.

[01:56:24] I like that comment too.

[01:56:28] No, but thanks, Alex.

[01:56:29] And you hit the nail on the head, too, that if you wear a scarf with the Pittsburgh

[01:56:33] Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, nobody will respect you.

[01:56:37] And you deserve it.

[01:56:38] Yeah.

[01:56:40] Yeah, you deserve it.

[01:56:42] It's like wearing a scarf with the Mets and the Yankees.

[01:56:45] It's the same thing.

[01:56:45] Like, no, nobody's going to respect you or the socks and the cubs that do.

[01:56:50] Yeah, the Lakers and the Clippers.

[01:56:54] There's so many instances of that.

[01:56:56] But we have one more piece of feedback.

[01:56:58] And that's a voicemail from our friend Steve Brown.

[01:57:02] Hello, Ben and Kristen.

[01:57:03] This is Steve.

[01:57:04] And this is for Ted Lasso, season three, episode five, signs.

[01:57:08] Whoa, seven weeks without a win.

[01:57:11] Gosh, this is a text from my father.

[01:57:16] Obviously I'm drawing a blank.

[01:57:17] I don't remember what the significance of the shite in knighting armor is.

[01:57:23] You've probably already talked about this, but anyway, Shandy is just the worst star effort.

[01:57:28] Come on.

[01:57:29] Okay, I had to pause it because beer just said

[01:57:33] Man City was the name of the club he used to strip for when he was in college.

[01:57:39] Oh, the onion of beard.

[01:57:43] Roy, goodness gracious.

[01:57:44] The way you want to treat a bully.

[01:57:46] Oh, okay.

[01:57:48] Now it was this whole psychic thing.

[01:57:50] I forgot about that.

[01:57:52] And Shandy tries to give the Jerry Maguire type speech when she gets fired.

[01:57:56] Nobody's going to go with you, Shandy.

[01:57:59] Oh, I forget that Henry was the bully.

[01:58:02] Okay.

[01:58:04] Yeah, this can't be one big time zone because of the sun.

[01:58:09] I forgot that Zava had an avocado whisperer.

[01:58:12] Oh, thanks for the reminder, beard.

[01:58:14] Okay, Anastasia is kind of the worst.

[01:58:19] And now she's walking out on Nate in the middle of their date.

[01:58:22] Great.

[01:58:23] Okay, I didn't mean to make all that rhyme.

[01:58:26] Oh, I forgot about the Jack and Keely relationship.

[01:58:31] I know you guys have mentioned it,

[01:58:32] but for some reason it just went out of my head.

[01:58:35] Oh, Henry did an apology rap in front of the whole class.

[01:58:39] Oh, shut up.

[01:58:40] Oh, almost a mic drop, but they just kept saying sign, not signs.

[01:58:45] Wow.

[01:58:46] Great speech by Jason's Vegas.

[01:58:48] Wow, that right there at the end.

[01:58:50] Believe.

[01:58:51] Oh, great.

[01:58:52] Okay, on to next week.

[01:58:55] I like how you were like, shut up with the Henry rap.

[01:58:58] I know.

[01:58:59] Okay.

[01:59:00] All better.

[01:59:05] I'm trying to look it up because I know this path.

[01:59:09] I've talked about it before, and it's an event I really

[01:59:11] want to go to, but every year there's a lot of hints about

[01:59:16] Kansas City throughout Ted Lasso because that's where Jason

[01:59:19] Snakes is from.

[01:59:20] Are you talking about the big festival he does?

[01:59:22] The big slick every year that I've been invited to,

[01:59:25] and I never had the opportunity to actually go.

[01:59:28] And I do want to attend at some point.

[01:59:29] Big slick was actually this past weekend, and they were

[01:59:34] playing.

[01:59:34] It rained, but they went out and they were still doing the

[01:59:36] softball game in the rain, and they had a big friendly

[01:59:39] feud game and everything.

[01:59:40] So if you Google big slick 2024, there's a lot of pictures

[01:59:45] and I'm sorry.

[01:59:48] No, it's this weekend.

[01:59:49] It's this weekend happening right now.

[01:59:50] Oh, get in the car.

[01:59:52] Well, we're recording it.

[01:59:55] It's like one o'clock on a Sunday afternoon.

[01:59:57] It's going to be over.

[01:59:57] Oh.

[01:59:59] And the time I get there, I wanted to see how much money

[02:00:03] they raised this year.

[02:00:04] And that's not going to be released for a little bit.

[02:00:06] So it doesn't make sense to look.

[02:00:11] But thank you everybody for the feedback that you left

[02:00:30] pod.com.

[02:00:32] Do it recommendations for the week.

[02:00:35] I know you've got one fall guy.

[02:00:39] I haven't watched it yet, so it's fun, right?

[02:00:43] It's fun.

[02:00:44] Go in with it's fun.

[02:00:47] If you're looking for a story, it's real loose.

[02:00:51] Okay, there's so many holes in the story that at one

[02:00:55] point you just gonna you have to just unlock it and know,

[02:00:58] all right, you know what?

[02:00:59] The story sucks.

[02:01:01] But the movie's fun.

[02:01:02] Okay.

[02:01:03] Ryan Gosling is perfect.

[02:01:05] Emily Blunt is perfect.

[02:01:07] It's on my list of shows to watch or movies to watch.

[02:01:12] I've been rewatching the-

[02:01:15] Do you know who's in it?

[02:01:17] Hannah Waddingham.

[02:01:18] Yes, she is, I think like a producer or director.

[02:01:21] She is.

[02:01:22] Or an agent.

[02:01:23] Somebody.

[02:01:23] Freaking-tastic.

[02:01:26] No, but I've been rewatching the bad boys movies only because

[02:01:30] I have a screening of the new one coming out soon.

[02:01:34] So I rewatched-

[02:01:34] How is the third one?

[02:01:36] I haven't seen the third one yet.

[02:01:39] I rewatched one and two.

[02:01:41] My plan is to watch bad boys ride or die.

[02:01:44] Oh no, bad boys from life.

[02:01:47] My plan is to watch that tonight.

[02:01:49] And then I have a screening of bad boys ride or die tomorrow.

[02:01:51] I love the second bad boys movie.

[02:01:54] I rewatched it last night and I forgot how fun that movie is.

[02:01:57] When he accidentally takes two tabs of ecstasy,

[02:02:01] it is one of the greatest movie subplots ever.

[02:02:06] That scene and the scene where Martin Lawrence's-

[02:02:11] Where the kid shows up to go out on a date with his daughter.

[02:02:16] And Will Smith acts like the uncle that just got out of prison.

[02:02:21] He's drinking the Hennessy out of the bottle.

[02:02:24] It looks dirty.

[02:02:25] What are you, 30?

[02:02:26] They both said that.

[02:02:29] The line that got me so hard was right after Martin Lawrence asked him,

[02:02:34] are you still a virgin?

[02:02:35] You better keep it that way.

[02:02:37] Will Smith leads into him and he's like,

[02:02:39] you ever fuck a man?

[02:02:41] You want to?

[02:02:45] I'm like, that is-

[02:02:46] I forgot how good-

[02:02:49] But even the end of that movie where they go to Cuba against orders,

[02:02:55] everything is like-

[02:02:58] I'm hoping.

[02:02:59] Again, I need to watch the third one.

[02:03:01] I'm going to watch it tonight.

[02:03:03] I hope the third one's as good and I hope the fourth one's fun.

[02:03:07] I hope so too because they're all significantly older now.

[02:03:11] Well, I did the math on it last night.

[02:03:14] Between two and bad boys for life is 17 years.

[02:03:19] Wow.

[02:03:20] Well, because I think the plot of bad boys for life is

[02:03:22] Martin Lawrence's characters get ready to retire.

[02:03:27] So-

[02:03:28] He wanted to retire for bad boys too.

[02:03:32] Well, no, he wasn't going to retire.

[02:03:34] He was going to get a new partner.

[02:03:39] Yeah.

[02:03:40] It's kind of like their Riggs and-

[02:03:45] Riggs and Murtaugh.

[02:03:45] Murtaugh, thank you.

[02:03:46] Yep.

[02:03:47] Yeah.

[02:03:48] They are another lethal weapon.

[02:03:51] Yeah.

[02:03:53] As for a recommendation for me,

[02:04:01] I mean, I can continue to recommend Welcome to Wrexham,

[02:04:04] especially continuing on the football theme because that show is just so good.

[02:04:09] But you know what?

[02:04:10] I've mentioned this before.

[02:04:11] I'm going to mention it again.

[02:04:13] The new season of Doctor Who is fucking phenomenal.

[02:04:17] Oh, that's great.

[02:04:18] It's so good.

[02:04:19] And to anybody who hasn't watched any of the other Doctor Who seasons,

[02:04:25] it does kind of act like a reboot.

[02:04:28] You can kind of watch the specials that aired last year

[02:04:32] where they brought back David Tennant and then introduced in Shudigatwa,

[02:04:37] which I did just recently learn everybody says his name is Shudigatwa.

[02:04:41] He just recently came out and said that up until like his 28th birthday,

[02:04:48] he always thought it was Shudi.

[02:04:50] And his mother's like, no, it's Nshudi.

[02:04:53] There's an N at the front of your name.

[02:04:57] He himself always thought the N was silent.

[02:05:00] And it turns out, no, it's Nshudi Gatwa.

[02:05:02] I saw that video.

[02:05:03] That was hilarious.

[02:05:04] Yeah.

[02:05:06] He is so good as the new doctor.

[02:05:09] Again, you don't have if you have any interest in watching Doctor Who,

[02:05:12] you don't have to have watched all the other seasons.

[02:05:14] You can watch those specials and jump right into the season.

[02:05:18] Yeah, it's a good new introduction or a good point for anybody who wants to kind of to start.

[02:05:24] But I am a fan of all those other seasons too.

[02:05:26] So you can always watch those.

[02:05:29] I think that's it for me.

[02:05:31] Anything else for you for this episode?

[02:05:33] I'm good.

[02:05:34] So next episode, Sunflowers.

[02:05:37] I can't wait.

[02:05:39] We're so excited to talk about this next episode.

[02:05:41] Honestly, I'm.

[02:05:43] Yep.

[02:05:43] Yep.

[02:05:43] Yep.

[02:05:44] Yep.

[02:05:44] Yep.

[02:05:44] Yep.

[02:05:45] Yep.

[02:05:45] Yep.

[02:05:46] But with that being said, thank you as always for being a part of this.

[02:05:50] Thank you for listening, subscribing, telling your friends about it,

[02:05:53] which we keep encouraging guys to do.

[02:05:55] But until next time, we'll see you guys back out on the pitch.

[02:05:58] Take care.

[02:05:59] Namaste.

[02:06:00] Bye bye.
