[00:00:00] Hey everybody, Ben here. Before we dive into today's episode, I want to take a quick time out for something really important.

[00:00:07] Now I know we all love the kickback binge watch our favorite shows, view the movies and talk about the latest pop culture, but there's something else we've got to do.

[00:00:17] Vote. With everything happening around us, this is our chance to be a part of the action.

[00:00:23] Whether you're ready for a change or you just want to keep things rolling, you are vote is your superpower.

[00:00:28] So put down the remote for just a second, check your voter registration and make sure you're ready to go for a election day.

[00:00:37] Call up your friends, remind your family, and let's turn out like it's the biggest event of the year.

[00:00:44] Because at the end of the day, it's not just about making noise. It's about making a difference.

[00:00:50] So let's get out there together and make it count this November.

[00:00:54] Now, settle in and enjoy the podcast.

[00:01:43] Welcome to another episode of The Revisited Podcast.

[00:01:47] I'm Ben.

[00:01:48] And I'm Schmerf Schmerf.

[00:01:52] What? I'm Kristen. Okay. Hi.

[00:01:56] Schmerf. How are you? It's been wild.

[00:01:58] It's been wild.

[00:01:58] It's been wild.

[00:01:59] Everybody amazing.

[00:02:01] Is everything fine?

[00:02:02] Everything is fine.

[00:02:04] Everything is fine as everything burns down around us.

[00:02:08] Man.

[00:02:10] So you.

[00:02:12] I know we didn't talk about this before we started recording, but for those of you listening to the podcast, might have heard the little PSA.

[00:02:21] I put at the beginning of this episode. You did hear that right?

[00:02:25] I listened to it this morning and I thought it was very good. I think that it's wonderful. And I think that if you have not registered to vote or checked your registration status,

[00:02:36] I think that it's really important to do so for sure. Absolutely 100%.

[00:02:41] 100%.

[00:02:42] But that aside.

[00:02:45] So initially, we were planning on doing the first two episodes of The Good Place this week.

[00:02:49] However, with a good place fashion.

[00:02:53] Yes.

[00:02:54] We're going to pivot.

[00:02:55] We're going to pivot.

[00:02:57] And not because we don't want to.

[00:02:58] We are both incredibly excited to dive into this show.

[00:03:01] Like like.

[00:03:03] Gitty excited to dive into this show.

[00:03:07] However, our schedules have been incredibly packed this past week, both of ours.

[00:03:15] But we didn't want to leave you with nothing and just skip a week without hearing our gettingness of an excitement for the show.

[00:03:22] It's recited.

[00:03:23] So we figured like why not just come on and do like a short little introduction to.

[00:03:29] Talk about the show and talk about what we remember about the show.

[00:03:32] And kind of figure some things out as we go.

[00:03:36] As to what the format is going to be for covering this show because this show is 50 episodes.

[00:03:42] So basically, we're going to have a meeting and you're going to hear it.

[00:03:45] You're going to get to hear in real time our thought process about this too.

[00:03:51] And but I mean like our busy schedules like have been crazy like you're back to school.

[00:03:56] So you, you know, you're you're coming up with plans.

[00:04:00] You're you figuring out your classroom and all this other stuff.

[00:04:05] I'm back to recording will helm in addition to this so I had like a couple episodes that I had to record.

[00:04:10] I'm covering at the time you're hearing this.

[00:04:12] I'm covering the Emmys this weekend.

[00:04:15] He's very excited.

[00:04:17] I actually got approved to be pressed for the Emmys like come on like that's huge for me.

[00:04:23] That's amazing.

[00:04:24] So I'm excited about that.

[00:04:27] We've both had a lot going on so.

[00:04:30] But again, we didn't want to go back to our typical fashion of being like, oh, let's just skip this week.

[00:04:36] Yeah and honestly, like this is my happy place.

[00:04:39] I love podcasting with you.

[00:04:41] I love Sunday mornings because that's when we record is Sunday mornings.

[00:04:46] I love getting up and watching the shows and getting prepped and messing around, you know, for whatever.

[00:04:52] How what time is it? How long have we been. Yeah, an hour before an hour. Yeah, before we actually start recording.

[00:04:59] It's just it's become my Sunday routine and when we don't do it for a while, I very much miss it.

[00:05:05] I do too.

[00:05:06] I'm the I'm in the same exact boat like I love podcasting with you.

[00:05:09] So one of the reasons why we decided to even start this I can't believe.

[00:05:13] We're on our third show.

[00:05:15] I know right we would be a little bit further if we didn't take a pandemic break.

[00:05:21] True. We might have been through the good place already and maybe you would have watched the Westwing or the wire by now.

[00:05:29] I don't know if we would have gotten all the way through.

[00:05:31] We want to take that long of a break. That's fair. That's fair.

[00:05:34] But it mean like it's it's fun to think about that like we initially started this podcast as a revisit to lost.

[00:05:40] And then we pivoted a little bit during loss to convert the podcast into something that we knew we could continue with when lost was over.

[00:05:51] And now we're on to our third show.

[00:05:54] It's fun. I'm so happy and I know that you know in recent weeks we have lost a few visitors or listeners, but I hope that we gain a lot more in this new show.

[00:06:04] Do you think we lost some listeners?

[00:06:06] I think we did.

[00:06:08] Maybe because they're just not into the next show that we're covering.

[00:06:11] I think that we lost some listeners because we lost some listeners.

[00:06:16] Okay.

[00:06:17] All right. But fair enough.

[00:06:18] But I think it's okay because if you're listening now, I appreciate you and I'm happy you're here and everything is fine.

[00:06:29] Something just clicked with me. We'll talk about it later.

[00:06:34] But yeah, I know we've definitely gained because there has been a lot of people who when we made the announcement we were covering the good place.

[00:06:43] We're excited to go back to it and start watching it. And there are some people who've never seen it before we're excited to kind of get into it and watch it with us.

[00:06:53] So with that said, then we should keep our Ted Lazo format.

[00:06:58] Do you think because so with Ted Lazo format?

[00:07:02] I'm least for the first season.

[00:07:05] The only reason I'm saying, I'm questioning that is not because I don't think it's a good format.

[00:07:12] I think it's fair because the reason why we kept the Ted Lazo format of keeping having a spoiler section is because Ted Lazo was still so new.

[00:07:23] It had literally just ended less than a year before we started covering it.

[00:07:27] And there were a number of people who were watching it for the first time.

[00:07:30] The only reason why I'm kind of like questioning it this time is because I don't remember enough about the show to have spoilers for me to have anything to add to a spoiler section.

[00:07:49] So this show ended, let me see what year it ended.

[00:07:53] I think it was 2016 2020.

[00:07:58] Oh, January 30th, 2020.

[00:08:00] Right before our world ended, the show ended.

[00:08:04] Okay. That was a little sign.

[00:08:07] The last episode was four days after Kobe Bryant died and I have been saying that when Kobe Bryant died everything went to shit.

[00:08:14] It was January 26th, 2020 after that.

[00:08:17] Australia's on fire, we almost go to war with Iran and then the pandemic hits and everything goes to shit.

[00:08:24] So we were meant to remember everything is fine.

[00:08:28] Everything is fine even as the flames lick our heels everything is fine.

[00:08:35] There are a couple things I do remember but not enough so I'm okay with keeping the Ted Lazo format of having a spoiler section at the end.

[00:08:43] I just don't know how much I'm going to add to it until we begin watching.

[00:08:49] I remember that show pretty well.

[00:08:52] There might be some stuff that will just come to me that I remember because maybe that's the reason I don't remember it is because I'm so far out of it.

[00:09:00] And I've been away from it for so long that maybe once we start watching, I'll remember oh yeah, I remember this happens to this character and this happens to this character and this is what happens here.

[00:09:10] So I mean it's a fair format, I'm okay with it.

[00:09:14] Okay well let's get into this let's get into introducing our show so for those of you who do not know the good place and this is your first time watching.

[00:09:24] This show is based on a woman named Eleanor Shell strap an Eleanor Shell strap is played by Kristen Bill and Eleanor Shell strap has unfortunately died and she wakes up on her couch and she sees this side welcome everything is fine.

[00:09:41] So that's how we start the show now what we start knowing is that Ted dancing is there.

[00:09:48] And I forget his character's name but Ted dancing is there to lead her into the good place with his Michael finds that she is Michael Michael yes in my list of characters I have all the character names except it just says Ted dancing.

[00:10:02] Yeah Michael thank you so much.

[00:10:04] Now I remember that so we have Eleanor, cheating Jason to honey and Janet with Michael these are our core characters.

[00:10:16] Mm-hmm.

[00:10:19] And if you haven't seen this show I am so excited to take you through for the first time because this show is.

[00:10:28] Forking fantastic this show so.

[00:10:32] I didn't know what to expect with this show so and this was going to be one of my questions I'm going to post to you for this little intro that we were doing is what attracted you.

[00:10:43] To the good place to get you to start watching because I'll tell you real quick what got me.

[00:10:48] Obviously it was very excited to see Ted dancing because I'm a big Ted dance in fan but I'm a huge Kristen Bell fan like she is.

[00:10:55] She is one of my biggest celebrity crushes even still to this day.

[00:11:00] We probably could have said one two three and said Kristen Bell.

[00:11:03] Kristen Bell yeah so Kristen Bell was the main reason why I got attracted to the show however I was I was also.

[00:11:10] Really attracted to the fact that this was another Michael sure.

[00:11:14] Film or another Michael sure show Michael sure who anybody who doesn't know was a producer on the office.

[00:11:21] Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn 99 which are he also played Mose on the office if you want to know what he looks like he is mose from the office.

[00:11:31] Yes, but I mean like in a dot again like Parks and Recreation the office and Brooklyn 99 are three of my favorite shows.

[00:11:39] Our favorite show so of course I was like well of course I'm going to give this a shot.

[00:11:44] Surely because it's a Michael sure production so I was like yes I want to watch this so Michael sure and Kristen Bell were the two attracting forces that really led me to watch the show.

[00:11:54] Yeah it was for me it was Kristen Bell of course.

[00:11:59] And really the premise I mean I saw the first I saw the the trailer and I just thought this is going to be good you know.

[00:12:08] Yeah I did not know that I that we were going to be on a philosophical journey and either.

[00:12:18] That to me I think is the best part of this show is cheity and his and his dedication to philosophy and a manual content.

[00:12:31] And and cheity there's some cheat cheity aboghania I think was his name I think that's how you say is last.

[00:12:37] And I'm just telling you right now I'm doing this all from memory so I just want everybody to be very impressed with me right now thank you very much.

[00:12:48] But these characters crawl into your heart right you've got Jason who you're just going to love so much I just don't even want to do it like ruin it.

[00:12:59] And I'll just say this Jason and those I if there's anything I do remember about the show is I remember Jason and meadows of being one of my favorite characters from this series purely from a comic relief standpoint.

[00:13:14] And if you've never seen this show you're going to get a weird introduction to Jason Mendoza very weird introduction to Jason Mendoza but.

[00:13:24] Jason and Tani and Cheady and Eleanor these four characters make this I don't know comedy of errors kind of.

[00:13:35] True and they're so unique and they're so different from one another that it just works.

[00:13:44] And I just I cannot say enough good things about this show I really can't and then you have Janet and I just want to say I want a Janet I want a Janet I don't care if it's a bad Janet I don't care if it's good Janet I just want a Janet I want somebody to pop up in my life and give me stuff.

[00:14:02] I will tell you one of the other things that really shines a lot with this show that we're going to see as we once we dive into it we start watching is some of these secondary characters are almost as brilliant as the core for and Michael as Ted dancing.

[00:14:18] You know you mentioned thank you that was very.

[00:14:21] And Derek there are there are three characters in particular I'm thinking of some of them we won't meet until later obviously see if I have I have some written down and I've so exactly three written down so let's see it through the same so we have Derek played by Jason Mendocus we have Sean play by Mark Evan Jackson who is phenomenal anything he does.

[00:14:43] Who is also both in parks and recreation and Brooklyn 99 yep and we also have the judge in the later seasons played by my erudov.

[00:14:55] So I have the medium place.

[00:14:59] Which is in a character but no the we the medium place woman I forget her name oh a woman in the medium place I don't remember.

[00:15:08] Is it Vicki no Vicki's another one in the good place I wonder if it starts with a video maybe it's to research.

[00:15:17] I don't remember yeah I don't know and then I call him because I can't remember evil been why it because Adam Scott is in it.

[00:15:28] If you're a fan of Michael Schoer and like parks and recreation in the office like you know a lot of all just character actors or you see a lot of these actors reappear a lot of these shows yeah.

[00:15:39] And it's it's just the show is super fun and super light but we'll hit you in the heart every single episode.

[00:15:49] And those are the shows I think are Ben and I's wheelhouse we love those shows Ted Lasso was really the same format good place you can say the same for the office elements of the office elements of Brooklyn 99.

[00:16:05] You know elements of parks and rec I mean they're all really funny.

[00:16:10] Off the cuff shows but they have so much heart and there's so much love and dedication that are put into these shows and you get to know these characters and you love these characters and.

[00:16:23] I mean I don't know about you but I at the end of shows like this.

[00:16:28] I feel like these characters are my friends like I know them really well you know Jake Perralta is somebody that I want in my life forever Leslie nope is someone I aspire to be Jim Halpert is the you know the husband of all husbands right and then you have this little.

[00:16:46] And then you have this little band of fools who you just love so much and I would like a Jason Mendoza in my life I do.

[00:16:53] You're right like these shows like we talk about these shows that are kind of in our wheelhouse not just for podcasting but just personally enjoying.

[00:17:02] You know these shows that there's there's two different types of sitcoms to me there's the ones that are purely just for comic relief the ones that make you laugh from start to finish and then there are the ones that kind of give you those emotional attachments.

[00:17:13] And these are the ones that can make you laugh but also like really hit you in with some kind of emotion whether it's overwhelming happiness or.

[00:17:27] Like tearing your heart out you know at certain points and you know we saw that through Ted Lassell we see that through this series I talked to before we started recording I was mentioning scrubs also another bill learned show who created Ted Lassell and I'm seeing a lot of similarities.

[00:17:43] In Scrubs and Ted Lassell now rewatching scrubs.

[00:17:47] Yeah, this is another one I remember.

[00:17:51] You know being happy watching these characters but also being confused at times at the same time they're confused.

[00:18:00] Being sad at the same time they're sad and I don't remember all the details of how the show ends but I do remember having this and.

[00:18:08] The little bit of a spoiler but it's I'm not spoiling the ending of the show at all all I know is that I remember when the credits rolled on the series finale of this show.

[00:18:18] Being filled with an overwhelming feeling of happiness and completion.

[00:18:24] I like this or knows how to finish his shows.

[00:18:27] Let's just say that.

[00:18:28] It was solid like I felt full.

[00:18:31] It was one of the best endings I've ever seen for a show that something you can also that's what I mean if anybody ever talks about the perfect endings of shows.

[00:18:41] The first thing anybody will say is the office the office ended beautifully perfectly we all know that you look at Brooklyn 99.

[00:18:49] Brooklyn 99 had to end because they couldn't continue to do their show during 2020 while what was happening was happening but they still managed to pull out a last.

[00:19:01] season and land their plane even though they didn't want to right but they but Michael sure knew how to do it parks in wreck.

[00:19:09] Oh love the ending of parks in wreck and they technically had two finale's that unity at unity concert could have ended the show just fine just fine.

[00:19:19] But they did another season and you know what they still managed to end the show well and you know it's funny about that final season of parks and recti was I didn't appreciate it.

[00:19:30] I didn't like the time as much as I do now.

[00:19:33] I didn't like I wasn't crazy about the time jump like the what was it three years three years I wasn't crazy about the three year time jump and like I felt kind of disconnected because of the time jump and then the more I go back and I because I'm constantly rewatching parks and recreation that is on that and like I said.

[00:19:54] I'm not really in runs episode is like my favorite why are we not doing parks and wreck.

[00:19:59] We could have been in essence but it's.

[00:20:03] You know yeah that that episode where they're locked in the room together is one of the.

[00:20:08] That's the best.

[00:20:10] And when he's playing when he's playing the saxophone and she's in that weird workout uniform and she's like.

[00:20:18] Righting on a chair.

[00:20:20] Yeah, depending to fart at.

[00:20:23] It's hilarious you know he really knows how to play offerman really knows how to play the saxophone.

[00:20:28] You they wouldn't add it in if he didn't know I mean that's a central part of his character you know.

[00:20:33] No but like I guess by point is that.

[00:20:37] Well it's exactly what you were saying.

[00:20:39] If you see that Michael Shur's name is attached to it I think that it's a sure thing.

[00:20:45] Come on come on come on.

[00:20:47] I know I heard it.

[00:20:50] I heard it.

[00:20:52] That's fucking mental.

[00:20:54] Man what are you with the buttons?

[00:20:56] It's not configured right now I have to fix it.

[00:21:00] Fuck my settings got all screwed up I have to fix it Ben just sucks.

[00:21:05] Yeah sorry.

[00:21:07] We so I mean again we did pivot a little bit to go into this.

[00:21:12] We did post on social media that we were looking for feedback and we did get some for the first couple of.

[00:21:17] So we're going to hang on to it so don't worry like it's already saved.

[00:21:22] We're still going to use it next week when we do when we dive into it but now you have a little extra time.

[00:21:27] To leave us feedback for those extra episodes.

[00:21:30] Well and I don't think we did a proper introduction to Ted Lasso either we just kind of jumped into it and I think it's nice for us to maybe just start off our shows this way by just talking about why we're doing the show and how we feel about doing the show because I mean then next week we can just.

[00:21:45] Get into it.

[00:21:46] Well and I liked to that we did because we didn't do it with loss either like lost was a big experimentation into diving into this podcast we just.

[00:21:54] When you live in the early episodes of us do it in last we don't know what.

[00:21:58] No and it's almost embarrassed.

[00:22:01] What's so funny to us there are a couple people in social media who are rewatching lost and are listening to the podcast while they're rewatching it.

[00:22:10] Yeah and like they're reaching out to me and saying like oh like I'm loving the coverage and I'm like really.

[00:22:14] Because you're in the great it's not great.

[00:22:17] It gets it gets it gets a lot better, but it's not great in the beginning.

[00:22:22] But I like the fact you're right we didn't do the introduction for Ted Lasso, but we did do the recap at the end talking about what did we see differently upon the rewatch.

[00:22:32] I like the idea that for this show for the good place we're doing this introduction and then we'll do a recap afterwards to kind of book and.

[00:22:42] The coverage and I think we're going to continue doing that going forward for other shows.

[00:22:47] I just want to say my idea.

[00:22:49] It was your idea to do this.

[00:22:51] It was my it was my texty.

[00:22:56] Not going to read it verbatim.

[00:22:58] I was not sober.

[00:23:00] Let's just.

[00:23:01] Well then maybe I can read it verbatim because you don't know I wouldn't be to verbate him.

[00:23:06] Okay.

[00:23:06] I was not sober and I said hey, I have a not sober idea.

[00:23:12] And then there was me that was playing devil's advocate and it was like, I already made the Facebook post and that's already out there and and then the more I thought about it for a minute.

[00:23:22] Then the more for a minute, it was like a total of like 10 minutes before I reply to and I was like, you know what I like your idea better.

[00:23:29] My week is so busy right now.

[00:23:31] I like your idea better both of us just went like full truth after that and we're just both like I can't handle anything right now.

[00:23:38] It's the worst week.

[00:23:39] I let me let me just give you a quick rundown of my week so people know I had to I attended us in advance screening of speak no evil.

[00:23:47] I then had to write a review and record and review.

[00:23:51] I attended an advanced screening of transformers one that I still have to write and record my script my reviews of that.

[00:23:58] I had to I had two episodes of will help that I had to record one of which is going to be the season premiere that you're hearing at the same time you're hearing this.

[00:24:06] And then I had another one so I had to edit the first one.

[00:24:09] I had to record the post credit portion of that first episode.

[00:24:14] I attended a live podcast of a of a friend of mine last night.

[00:24:20] What else did I have going on? Oh, I had to record I had to record my taste test video that is going up one Facebook today Sunday.

[00:24:28] I had to prep for my coverage of the Emmys, which is happening later tonight on Sunday and in between all of that I had to work.

[00:24:38] I had to make money to pay bills because this is not this doesn't pay us.

[00:24:48] So I this is fun.

[00:24:49] It is and so that was my week. So you can kind of understand why we took a break of the like let's start the coverage next week in this week. Let's just do the little introduction.

[00:25:01] Yeah, well, because a lot of people also don't realize to that every time we cover an episode it might only be a 22 minute episode.

[00:25:08] But a 22 minute episode is at least an hour of prep because we watch each episode twice at least twice and make no.

[00:25:19] And take notes and everything. And this one is a 40 is two episodes back to back because it was a double premiere, which is why we're covering it that way.

[00:25:29] And so that's 44 minutes, which means about two hours of prep for the episode.

[00:25:37] So it's not just watching the episode and jumping in like we have to watch we have to take notes and there's prep time that goes into it and I just I honestly didn't have that two hours to spare.

[00:25:49] This week. No, I get it. It's fine. I mean, you know everything's fine.

[00:25:54] Everything's fine. I really love talking about this show. I mean, I would say what I would like to do before we have our first episode is I would like to do like a Wikipedia dive or something on Emmanuel Kant because for anybody that has seen the show, you know that Emmanuel Kant is a centerpiece of this show for the character of cheating and

[00:26:19] I think Michael Schoer wrote a book on philosophy. Didn't he that came out of this show like he got he has he came out of the show with a very deep love or very deep fascination with philosophy itself and he wrote a book about the good place and how

[00:26:38] That changed his views on humanity or something. I'm talking because I'm giving you time to look at this. Oh, I was trust me. I got it. I knew what you were doing. You were you're be good. Yeah, he says he wrote a book and I might actually get it.

[00:26:54] I want it. Yeah, I'm going to look for it. It's called How to be perfect the correct answer to every moral question and it comes out of I think all of his research and making the good place.

[00:27:08] I'm I'm it's on sale right now on Amazon the hard covers on sell right now for like 16 let's all have a project where we're all going to read this book and talk about it when we're done covering the show.

[00:27:19] The paper back on Amazon right now is 13 dollars. So I actually to be completely honest with you, I'm going to check Barnes and Noble to see if I was going to say check thrift books.

[00:27:32] Rift books is a second hand website and it doesn't go to Jeff Bezos Bayzos, however you say is last name.

[00:27:40] Well, that's why I'm also checking Barnes and Noble because it Barnes and Noble is usually a couple dollars more, but I would much rather go and buy the book store and have it and save it.

[00:27:52] Yeah, and help the bookstore than order on Amazon every once in a while still order on Amazon just because it's cheaper and I need it like very quickly yeah or Barnes and Noble just doesn't carry it.

[00:28:04] However, so you know there's a lot for such a light show for comedy there's a lot of thought there's a lot of research there's a lot of effort that goes into a show like this and I think that that's why so many people connected with it the way that they did.

[00:28:22] But this show had it come out in 2020 probably would have been as huge as Ted Lasso.

[00:28:30] Because it has that kind of a feel to it.

[00:28:33] Yeah, it has that that happy like this is what we need in life.

[00:28:39] This is what we could be. This is what we could strive for and you know I mean those of you that have watched a good place you know that there are some definite plot twists.

[00:28:50] One massive plot twist.

[00:28:53] Oh, you know season one.

[00:28:55] Yeah.

[00:28:56] That you know it takes us on a bit of a ride but I think that that is a perfect metaphor for life.

[00:29:01] I mean we have plot twists in our own life.

[00:29:03] We have events in our life or circumstances in our life that completely hit us in the side of the head like a two by four.

[00:29:13] But we roll with it. We adapt. We adjust and we try to do the best we can and I think that that's a major theme for this show.

[00:29:21] Yeah, I think if I remember correctly to a good theme of this at least for a particular season is second chances.

[00:29:30] I do remember there is a big over there is a big arc with involving second chances for some of these characters.

[00:29:37] All of these characters.

[00:29:38] Yes.

[00:29:38] Yeah. I agree the core for at the very least. No even a couple others get some second chances.

[00:29:46] A lot of people get second chances in this show and I think that we are.

[00:29:50] We are a society right now that has forgotten that we have forgotten that people are allowed to grow.

[00:29:57] People are allowed to evolve. People are allowed to change.

[00:30:00] If I was held to the same beliefs that I had 10 years ago, 20 years ago, five years ago.

[00:30:07] I would nobody would want to be around me.

[00:30:12] But because I went through what I went through, because I have changed my mind because I have grown and evolved as a person that makes me who I am today and I like who I am today.

[00:30:23] But I wouldn't be who I am today without those pitfalls without those valleys and we are a society that wants.

[00:30:32] Perfection immediately. And if we don't have perfection immediately, then obviously you are terrible.

[00:30:41] And I think we want to turn that on its head.

[00:30:44] We are a society that kind of wants instant reaction or response.

[00:30:51] And it doesn't more times than not, that's not the case in life.

[00:30:57] I don't think we need instant. I think we all need to remember that we are all a work in progress.

[00:31:03] And I would like us to go into this show with that mentality that we are all a work in progress and none of us are perfect.

[00:31:11] None of us are going to be perfect. And we need to really love each other for the imperfections that we are.

[00:31:17] Yeah. I like to say that we are imperfectly perfect.

[00:31:21] Yeah, there's perfection and imperfection.

[00:31:24] Mm-hmm. And it's all awesome. I mean, don't be a dick. That's really it. Don't be awful.

[00:31:31] And you know what? Like it's we've been using it as a joke and it'll it'll come up a lot throughout the run of this series.

[00:31:39] But it's exactly exactly where I was going with that is everything is fine.

[00:31:44] Everything is fine. Like it just for just keep that in mind like no matter what happens in your life everything is fine.

[00:31:53] Like it's isn't that the name of the first episode?

[00:31:57] Um, I think it is.

[00:32:00] I think it's called I think the first episode is called Everything is fine.

[00:32:04] It is. I can tell you right now because I have I still have the graphics from yeah everything is fine.

[00:32:12] Is the name is the first episode. Yeah.

[00:32:16] And so funny too because people listening obviously can't see it but the background of our video call is the very first thing that happens in the episode.

[00:32:27] Yep, the very first frame.

[00:32:29] It is Eleanor sitting in the chair looking at welcome everything is fine on the wall.

[00:32:34] Yep.

[00:32:36] It's a great show. I'm really excited to cover it. I'm excited to cover it with you. I'm excited to hear our listeners talk about it.

[00:32:45] I would love to hear your feedback this time around. I know we get a lot of the same people.

[00:32:51] Please feel free to drop us a line. I know that everybody is incredibly busy and it takes.

[00:32:57] You know, seemingly maybe a long time to go to the thread or go to the website or go to the email and do it.

[00:33:05] But you know even one or two lines is great just tell us it tells if you're watching.

[00:33:10] You know, if you're watching along or if you're listening along I'd love to know.

[00:33:14] And that would better help us I think cover the show.

[00:33:18] Are you mainly listening or are you watching and listening? Because if you're mainly listening I you know will get more more detailed if you'd like.

[00:33:26] If you're watching and listening maybe we'll pull back on all the detail and we'll talk about the show thematically. You know, but we can't we can't know how to cover it in the way that you need us to cover it unless you let us know how you're watching along with us.

[00:33:39] Yeah, I agree with everything you just said.

[00:33:42] So I love hearing.

[00:33:45] I love hearing the feedback. It is a quite a long way in addition to the covering the show. It is my other favorite part of podcasting.

[00:33:53] You've, maybe Steve, Steve Brown Jason Greg does.

[00:33:59] Alex.

[00:34:00] I'm worried buddy. I got you. Yeah, I said a stain.

[00:34:04] Are you didn't?

[00:34:05] I said it at the same time you did.

[00:34:08] Go back and see.

[00:34:09] Alex Kruger and he's wonderful people.

[00:34:13] And he's a guest on Will home this season too. We already read it.

[00:34:15] And he has his own podcast about the Philadelphia Phillies if you like baseball.

[00:34:23] So so another thing real quick to about this show and it's one of my fondest things about the show is I love any time I watch a show.

[00:34:35] And I get to discover a new actor or actress and I become a fan of them.

[00:34:42] And obviously, I knew of Kristen Bell. I knew of William Jackson Harper and Jamilich Mill and I didn't know about

[00:34:49] you and I'm like, well, you know, you're not like a fan of a fan of you.

[00:34:49] That's why he's like, me and you are like, if you're not a fan of me, who plays Jason Mendosa.

[00:34:51] So that was a new interesting turn, but I'll tell you the one person who I really learned a lot about and became a fan of because of this show was Darcy Carton.

[00:35:01] She's wonderful.

[00:35:02] Who plays Janet and I've loved her in everything she has been in sense?

[00:35:06] She is so her comedic timing is fantastic.

[00:35:11] Yes. Fantastic.

[00:35:13] It's, and she, like, I don't even want to, I'm not going to save it.

[00:35:19] There's another character that she plays, so it's just this fun. Yeah. No.

[00:35:23] Yeah, I'm going to save it. But like I remember discovering Darcy

[00:35:27] Cardin because of this show and becoming becoming a big fan of it.

[00:35:33] I thought of this earlier, and I didn't mention it, but I will mention it to you now

[00:35:37] when we were talking about Michael Schoer and the different shows that he does.

[00:35:41] I've been watching my shuffle playlist a lot in that shuffle playlist. His episodes of,

[00:35:46] as we mentioned, Parks and Rec, the office in Brooklyn, 99, as well as other shows like New

[00:35:50] Girl and Drew Carey. But I came across an episode of Brooklyn, 99 that has one of my favorite

[00:35:58] absolute favorite moments of that entire show. One of the things that Brooklyn, 99 was brilliant for

[00:36:06] was the cold opens. Oh, yeah. The cold opens sometimes were funnier than anything that happens

[00:36:13] in the rest of the episode. I want it that way. So that is one of my favorites. But my absolute

[00:36:21] favorite cold open. I came across the episode the other day is the full bullpin. Oh, my god.

[00:36:28] Yes, it is when Holt raises his arm up and says the full bullpin and like the look on

[00:36:36] for all this. I like I lose it every time I watch that cold open. Awesome. Yeah, every single time.

[00:36:47] So I went to why you talked about that. I mean, gay, but no, what could we were talking about

[00:36:53] Brooklyn, 99 and stuff earlier? And it popped in my head to mention Dan and I just forgot about it.

[00:36:57] I just brought it up now. I like it. I can't remember if good place does cold opens or not.

[00:37:03] I don't think so. I don't think it's a cold open kind of show. Yeah, I don't remember. So that's

[00:37:08] the one thing that I would do know about this show is I've tried to watch it on shuffle and I can't.

[00:37:13] I just can't. To me, this is the show you have to watch from start to finish. Well, I think that's

[00:37:17] one of the reasons why we chose this one too. Yep. Because I'll shuffle. I'll shuffle a lot of comedy.

[00:37:23] I'll shuffle almost any comedy. This show, I tried to shuffle. I can't do it. I can't shuffle it.

[00:37:31] Well, that's like so another, like another comedy that I love but I can't find it to put it.

[00:37:37] I mean, I can find it because I have it. But I can't put it in my playlist because of that exact

[00:37:42] reason because like a feel like it's something you kind of have to watch in progression is shit's creak.

[00:37:48] Yes, that's another show that I cannot. I can't shuffle Ted Lasso is the same way as well. Like I can't

[00:37:56] watch Ted Lasso on shuffle like I have to watch it. Like a dromedy, right? They're not really

[00:38:01] comedies or dromities. Yeah, I guess so. So yeah, like this one, the good place,

[00:38:09] shit's creak Ted Lasso, like their shows, I just I can't put them in shuffle because if I shuffle and

[00:38:14] I come to an episode, I immediately and like no now I need to watch what happens before it.

[00:38:20] And I have to keep watching what happens after because of that. Yeah. So I'm not a person,

[00:38:25] but I agree with you. Good places one that we kind of have to watch in progression and continue with

[00:38:31] it. So I know that I've sworn a couple of times so far, but I would like to extend a challenge

[00:38:37] that we don't swear and we just use good place swearing. I'm all for that challenge. Okay,

[00:38:44] I am 100% for that challenge. Okay. Because every time I publish these,

[00:38:51] I always have to click explicit when we post, especially for Ted Lasso. Well, you know what?

[00:38:58] It's an explicit show. Well, it's an immediate, yeah. And sometimes some of the clips I was using

[00:39:03] or the sound clips from the soundboard were also explicit. So I always had the click explicit,

[00:39:09] but I like the challenge of using forking or shirt or shirt balls or, you know, any of that.

[00:39:18] I'm I'm all for that. Cool. Let's see it. One less click. I have to click for every podcast we

[00:39:23] publish. I challenge any of you that leave us feedback to do the same. That's fun too.

[00:39:30] I like that as well. So let's see if we can go an entire show without having to click the E button.

[00:39:37] So do you know what's fun about that? Two is I think the audience, the listeners are already up

[00:39:43] for that challenge because when we posted that we were covering this show and then when I went

[00:39:48] on social media and I changed all the images to, you know, the one with Michael and Eleanor

[00:39:54] and the background and everything, a lot of the comments had holy shirt balls or forking

[00:40:02] awesome. Like they were already well into playing a lot. Cool. So I had that thought. I wanted to

[00:40:10] extend it. I like the idea. I like the idea too. I think it's a lot of fun. Cool. Okay. I'm excited.

[00:40:16] Yeah. Me too. All right. So I think that's a good introduction

[00:40:22] to everything we've been talking about. Again, we encourage, as Kristen said, we encourage you

[00:40:27] guys to leave us feedback especially if you're new to it. You know, now's a good time if you're

[00:40:32] watching along. EASY Sways to do that. As we always mentioned every episode just visit the website

[00:40:37] revisitedpod.com. There you'll find links somewhere to subscribe, listen, leave feedback all that

[00:40:42] or you can email us directly feedback at revisitedpod.com. I also want to make this a post.

[00:40:49] Yeah. There's a weekly Facebook post. A weekly Facebook post every week on the Facebook page,

[00:40:55] which is facebook.com slash revisitedpod where you can leave feedback. There's a feedback post

[00:41:01] every week and there's one on Instagram as well. So which is at revisitedpod. Everything is revisited

[00:41:06] pod. So you can leave feedback on Instagram. You can leave feedback on Facebook or you can email us

[00:41:13] directly. I also want to make again, want to make quick mention that Will Helms returning at the

[00:41:18] same time. So at the time you're hearing this, the season premiere of Will Helms dropped and we did

[00:41:23] top five favorite James Earl Jones films with the recent passing of James Earl Jones. So I

[00:41:29] had to switch it up. Tom Hanks was going to be the premiere but with the passing of James Earl

[00:41:35] Jones says, nope, that's gotta be. That's gotta be it. Well, if we remove Star Wars,

[00:41:42] my favorite is fielded dreams. And that's the main. Well, okay. So I'm just going to say off the

[00:41:49] cuff. The sandlot fielded dreams. All the Star Wars. All the Star Wars. Oh, all the Star Wars.

[00:41:58] We, we, we, my favorite, my favorite thing that James Earl Jones did. Can I guess? Can I guess?

[00:42:04] Can I guess? Big back, dairy. 100% 100%. I mentioned that on the podcast. Yeah. I love that episode.

[00:42:13] So I showed it to the kids the day he died. So I don't know if you know this about that episode or

[00:42:19] not. It's the first time that Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones ever met. It is the first time

[00:42:24] James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher ever met. That's crazy to me because that means that they didn't

[00:42:30] do press junkets the way that they do them now or they did separate junkets. So yeah.

[00:42:38] So it's, yeah, well because James Earl Jones was just a voice in Star Wars. Yeah, but he's James

[00:42:43] Earl Jones coming in. He is the voice. Yeah, he's Musafa. Mufasa. I'm sorry. I have a reason for that

[00:42:53] that I can't say on air. But I'll tell you when we're not recording. Okay.

[00:42:58] He's the voice of meth. Yeah, yeah. He is the voice of CNN. Gosh, James Earl Jones. So he was 93.

[00:43:07] My favorite part of the announcement of his death was that the immediate cause was not known.

[00:43:13] He's 93. He was 93. He's 93. He died because he was old. He lived a long, nice,

[00:43:20] not the James Earl Jones Darth Vader life. Yes, yes. 100%. And we missed him.

[00:43:26] So, so yeah. So the season premiere is James Earl Jones. Next week is my

[00:43:30] is audio of the panel I did with Ross Markwand at Contrapalus New Jersey and then two weeks from now

[00:43:36] will be the top five favorite Tom Hanks episode, which is already recorded. It's just saved

[00:43:41] for two weeks from now. That's cool. Um, best thing Tom Hanks ever did was band of brothers.

[00:43:50] Which was, what was not mentioned because it was in a movie. It doesn't matter. It's best thing

[00:43:55] he's ever done with his whole life. He produced that. Yep, best thing you ever did was hold it.

[00:43:59] Let me tell you. Top five Tom Hanks movies was hard and might have been one of the hardest

[00:44:06] episodes of Wilhelm I have ever done. My favorite thing he's ever done is cast away. Again,

[00:44:15] I'm not revealing anything like you. You know I'm just telling me I'm just telling you my feelings

[00:44:20] because I wasn't invited. You know you're always welcome. I know. I'm giving you that. I'm just

[00:44:26] giving you shirt. Don't get down to him. You'd still live for me. I was just about to say I'm

[00:44:32] giving you shirt. You also said, you also said a bad word. I did. Yes. What did I say? You said

[00:44:40] darn it. Oh. But the other kind. Don't know. We're working progress guys. We're going to do this.

[00:44:49] We're going to make it. I don't give a darn for this episode. Gosh, darn it. So excited. Any.

[00:44:58] So we've been. It's been a couple of weeks since we've recorded them. I mean,

[00:45:02] that since we've recorded any recommendations you want to throw out that to people.

[00:45:09] Huh. Oh, I do have a recommendation. No matter what side of the political spectrum that you're on,

[00:45:18] I always tell people that they should watch John Stuart and John Stuart's debate episode is phenomenal.

[00:45:27] And I have recommended it to everybody around me. And if you didn't watch the debate, which I

[00:45:33] didn't, but you still kind of want to get some sane coverage on it. John Stuart did a great job.

[00:45:41] I had a recommended one hundred percent agree. You can catch it on YouTube. He puts almost

[00:45:46] basically full episodes on YouTube now. I know I love it. It's like it's cut into his monologue

[00:45:53] and then his guest. So two separate videos, but between the two, like you get practically the entire

[00:45:58] episode. And I will agree with you. I also did not watch the debate. I only watched highlights,

[00:46:03] but I did watch John Stuart. And to anybody who might be listening, who says, well, John leans

[00:46:07] to the to the left more. I will say that might have been the case a couple of years ago when

[00:46:14] he did the Daily Show, but since his return, he pulls no punches. No, he doesn't care.

[00:46:20] He pulls no punches if something from the left bothers him, he speaks up about it. He has become

[00:46:27] very non-partisan. It just so happens that a lot of the bullshirt comes from one side. I believe that

[00:46:35] he is, he is a champion for the people. I've talked about this and you and I talked about this a

[00:46:43] little bit beforehand. I've been a fan of John's for years, but I became a huge fan of his when

[00:46:48] he went the bat for people like me who were first responders in 9-11. He has gone to hell and back

[00:46:56] for us. He has the totato with our government. And that's he's somebody that he doesn't just talk

[00:47:03] the talk he walks the walk. And if he truly believes in something he's going to go after it.

[00:47:07] And I think we need more people like that in our world. I want 100% agree. So maybe this is a

[00:47:14] little too politics for you, maybe we'll lose more listeners after this episode. But you know what?

[00:47:20] I really truly believe that we need some sanity in our life and if you need coverage,

[00:47:27] I can't watch a 90 minute debate. I can't. I can't. Look, at this point, most of us know who

[00:47:32] voting for. If you know who you're voting for, take yourself out of the narrative, turn it off

[00:47:37] because we're all going to be seen or for it. So I'm going to find the coverage that I trust

[00:47:43] that I believe in and that can honestly make me laugh about this very sad broken world right now.

[00:47:52] John Stuart's my answer. Yeah, and debates are more fun on decided voters anyway. Yeah, and I'm not an

[00:47:57] decided voter. Me neither. Me neither. Yeah, that's a good recommendation. I like that. Thank you.

[00:48:02] How about you? So my recommendation, believe it or not, is a book recommendation. Yeah. So I am revisiting

[00:48:11] an old favorite of mine. I heard a song the other day by a band that I like that I had no idea

[00:48:18] they wrote this song and this song is called So Long and Thanks for All The Fish. Oh, I know,

[00:48:26] which anybody who doesn't know that is a reference to a one of the books in the hitchhikers guide

[00:48:33] to the Galaxy saga and my favorite movie. I what's the favorite movie?

[00:48:39] Hitchhiker's guide at the Galaxy. That's your favorite movie? Yeah. Really. Yeah.

[00:48:45] The one with Sam Rockwell and Ellen Steph and yeah. I had no idea about that. Yeah, that's my favorite movie.

[00:48:55] That that's crazy to me because with the shit that you shirt, it's got to be a challenge.

[00:49:01] This is going to be bad for you with the shirt. I'm a teacher. I'm a teacher. I know how to control myself

[00:49:06] with the shirt that you give me about how ready player one is a horrible adaptation of a book.

[00:49:14] The fact that the hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy is your favorite movie

[00:49:19] blows my mind because that is a horrible adaptation of a book. Well, I enjoyed the movie. Don't

[00:49:30] get me wrong. I enjoyed it but it is a horrible adaptation of the book. I know but I watched it

[00:49:37] in the theaters under the influence and it was one of the single greatest movie experiences of my life

[00:49:44] and I've just never been able to let that go. Actually, my favorite favorite movie is life from

[00:49:49] Baghdad. We all know that. Yeah, that's right. But yeah, hitchhikers guide is definitely like top three.

[00:49:58] I love that movie so much. I'll excuse me. Alan recommend most Steph Sam Rockwell Martin's

[00:50:04] audition. Now Martin Freeman, we're talking about heavy hitters here. I'm just nail their

[00:50:11] Sam Rockwell as they fought people, Brock was forking hilarious. I'm not saying it's a bad again.

[00:50:19] I enjoyed the I love Sam Rockwell too. By the way, like he is so under right now.

[00:50:26] That's good enough work. He really doesn't. Anyway, back to my recommendation is

[00:50:31] I own a hardcover of the entire hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy saga but it is seen

[00:50:38] it share of where and I didn't want to wear it down again. But it's also been over a decades since I've

[00:50:45] read the book. So I went and I got a new copy paper back. Oh, yeah, that's beautiful. Of the

[00:50:52] ultimate hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy with all five of the books and I have dove back in and I am

[00:50:58] rereading the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. So for my recommendation, it's actually twofold. It's

[00:51:08] read it before because it is an amazing book or just simply go back and revisit an old favorite.

[00:51:19] I don't want to hear anything ever again about how bad ready player one is. But it is bad.

[00:51:27] Not bad. It's bad. It's bad. I don't know what. It's terrible. Don't want to hear an Alex back

[00:51:35] up on this one. No, don't Alex. Don't do it. You will no longer be the national treasure of

[00:51:44] this podcast. That's not true at all. You know that's not true. No, that's not true. Steve Brown is our

[00:51:50] national treasure. This is also very true. No offense to anybody else. Life's leaving started with us.

[00:51:57] Yes, it did. You heard it here. So any final notes before we wrap things up?

[00:52:02] No, I'm really excited to cover this show. Really, really excited to cover this show and I know that

[00:52:08] this was a really long-winded intro. However, I'm just happy we're back. It was too bright.

[00:52:15] Yeah, me too. It was nice to still be able to do like a full podcast even though if it was just an

[00:52:21] intro but a full episode of the podcast without having to do any prep and just having a jump in

[00:52:27] and it kind of worked out because I wanted to and I'm sure you agree with me on this. I wanted to do

[00:52:31] this intro before we started watching this show because I haven't watched this show since it aired.

[00:52:39] Oh, many of there. It's been four months, five years. So I didn't want to watch the first two

[00:52:44] episodes at an all-vacen start remembering stuff after or before we did this introduction. Right.

[00:52:51] So I will watch the episodes now that we have done this introduction. Yeah, Jason Mendoza. That's right.

[00:52:58] His last name is Mendoza. I'm Jason Mendoza. I love Blake the jack.

[00:53:04] Mordles. I'm Lord. Everything he does. Bordles. I'm more excited now than I already was.

[00:53:15] So you need to jump it in the show. You need on your little button thing, you need Jason Mendoza

[00:53:20] saying Bordles. I'm just saying you just it needs to happen. I will I will be gathering a whole new

[00:53:27] soundboard for this and it also reminds me too that I have a jack in the show. I don't think we do.

[00:53:36] Oh no. It all it also reminds me though that and I'll probably do it today. I need to go get a new

[00:53:44] book. Oh, because I still have I do a different a new notebook for notes for every child. Maybe

[00:53:51] I'll get it. I have some comic books lying around. Yep. I got to get a new composition book. I might

[00:53:56] have some. I don't know. I got to see. So but next episode of the podcast will be the first two

[00:54:04] episodes of the good place they aired together so we're going to cover them together and that is

[00:54:14] after that we will be week to week with one episode. Sorry. Good flying and I am immediately

[00:54:19] remembered. Yes, I don't remember anything about it at all. I just snorted. I don't remember anything

[00:54:28] about it so I don't remember it so I don't remember it so you know, we fun. Yeah. We'll be fun.

[00:54:40] Um, okay. You're kind of making me want to just go jump right into it as soon as we're

[00:54:45] done. I love this show. I love this show so much. Um, so with no final notes then we're going

[00:54:52] to wrap things up. How did we we just we we remember what we're doing for the end, right? I know

[00:54:58] what I'm doing. I don't know what you're doing. So, um, you know what? I'm going to leave it to you

[00:55:04] then because I usually did the closer for Ted Lasseau. So I'll get you do the closer for for the

[00:55:11] good place. So with that said, no, you could say it. No, I was just going to say,

[00:55:22] so what that said next episode as I mentioned the first two until then,

[00:55:30] Namaste, fork and day, but hey, oh, that's not what I thought we were doing. What I was going to do.

[00:55:35] I'm going to make you do it over. I thought we were ending with everything is fine. You're going

[00:55:40] to say everything. Oh, I keep adding on to this. Oh, you're sticking with the whole Namaste.

[00:55:47] We're okay. Okay. Yeah. I mean, you're to the wire. I'm going to say like, you know,

[00:55:52] benches or something. I don't get that reference benches instead of saying bitch.

[00:55:58] Uh, you failed. I didn't fail. You failed because you didn't know the game. You, you messed it up.

[00:56:06] You're stupid. The only thing I remember the only thing I know of the wire is Omar coming.

[00:56:15] That's, oh, oh, Omar coming. Omar coming. That's all I know about the wire. Anyway, until next time,

[00:56:22] just remember everything is all right. Or have to do it. You suck at everything. You can't do anything.

[00:56:34] God, Lee, Chandler. Until next time, just remember everything is fine.

[00:56:42] Namaste, fork and day, bimme!
